[00:00:07] world of podcasting.
[00:00:10] PodBread is made up of many diverse podcasts.
[00:00:13] Coming together to achieve the same goal of being the best damn podcast network on
[00:00:18] the planet.

[00:00:30] I don't talk about money often because it's personal.
[00:00:46] But what I don't mind talking about is how to get more of it.
[00:00:50] I found an interesting post on threads from Cold Brew Finance that talked about 20 small
[00:00:56] steps that brought big wealth.
[00:00:58] So I thought I would give you some of those steps.
[00:01:03] Thank you for tuning in to Dreas Point of View.
[00:01:04] I am your host is Dreas and I would love if you would follow me on X and Spell at Dreas
[00:01:10] Point of View on Pinterest, threads, IG and Facebook.
[00:01:14] Forgive me if I sound out of breath.
[00:01:16] I just walked up a couple flights of stairs and was like, you know what?
[00:01:20] I want to record this episode today.
[00:01:22] So don't forget to subscribe to the show as well and my free newsletter at DreasPointofView.substack.com.
[00:01:30] The first step is to create a budget.
[00:01:33] It sounds simple enough, but you'd be surprised how many people don't do that.
[00:01:37] I know I definitely budget.
[00:01:38] I may not write it down all the time, but whenever I go out, I do have a certain amount
[00:01:43] that I want to spend.
[00:01:45] My biggest thing that I budget are trips.
[00:01:48] I'm not one to splurge.
[00:01:50] I'll splurge on occasion, but you know how that feeling you get?
[00:01:54] You're on vacation and you're doing this, this, you're doing everything.
[00:01:57] And then when you come back, there's nothing.
[00:02:00] I don't want to be that person.
[00:02:01] I want to have something when I come back as well.
[00:02:06] The second step is to have an emergency fund.
[00:02:09] My job just implemented a program for us last year to have one where we take
[00:02:14] online courses and talk to someone as well as have our money payroll deducted.
[00:02:20] Having one has helped many of us.
[00:02:22] Paying credit cards in full.
[00:02:24] It's such a good feeling when you're able to do this.
[00:02:27] I paid off a few the past couple years and am down to one major credit card and target.
[00:02:34] Got to have that target because you can get everything from there.
[00:02:37] So I definitely don't want to give that up.
[00:02:40] Buying assets.
[00:02:41] I can't speak on this step much since I haven't done it yet.
[00:02:45] Remain teachable.
[00:02:46] We can all learn something no matter what age, no matter how much we already know.
[00:02:51] I know there are plenty of podcasts out there, including earn your leisure.
[00:02:55] You can always learn something.
[00:02:56] Spend with a purpose.
[00:02:58] Be intentional.
[00:02:59] Don't spend money frivolously.
[00:03:01] Track your spending.
[00:03:03] There are apps that can help you with that.
[00:03:04] I know my bank texts me my balance every couple of days and alerts me of suspicious activity.
[00:03:10] And I also suggest aura.com to help you.
[00:03:13] I mentioned that in a previous review.
[00:03:15] You can set up auto pay.
[00:03:18] I know the majority of my bills are set up so I don't have to worry about not paying
[00:03:22] a bill on time.
[00:03:23] You can also set up an alert on your phone when it's time to pay something.
[00:03:27] I know I remember talking to a friend of mine years ago about auto pay and he was
[00:03:31] like, oh no, I'm not doing that.
[00:03:33] I guess he may overspend and okay.
[00:03:36] I mean, I can't see anything more important in your bills.
[00:03:39] I really don't.
[00:03:40] You, I mean, they're not going anywhere.
[00:03:43] You'll always have them.
[00:03:45] You know, you want to pay them early if not on time.
[00:03:48] So to each his own.
[00:03:50] A big tip, a big step for me is cutting back on junk food.
[00:03:54] I know that adds up.
[00:03:56] I'm a sucker for fries.
[00:03:57] So I make sure to cut back on that.
[00:03:59] But I got to have some bodies fries at least once a week.
[00:04:02] I don't care who's another step is paying off debt.
[00:04:07] The emergency fund program.
[00:04:09] My job setup has videos that talk about that and that financial advisor is pretty good.
[00:04:16] It talks about all of that before we can even set up the emergency fund fund your HSA.
[00:04:21] I just got one a few years ago and I love it.
[00:04:25] It saves money on purchases, although I do tend to go overboard on Amazon, but it
[00:04:30] is helpful during tax time.
[00:04:33] Automate your savings.
[00:04:35] Invest in yourself.
[00:04:36] Make a class.
[00:04:38] Negotiate your bills.
[00:04:39] We all have them.
[00:04:40] Make a habit of checking to see about discounts that are offered, especially with your phone
[00:04:44] or for those of you who still have cable, or even maybe your streaming services may
[00:04:49] offer a discount.
[00:04:51] Don't be afraid to ask.
[00:04:52] Every few months I'm asking, is there anything, anything that you can do for me?
[00:04:57] Have a meal plan.
[00:04:58] There are meal services that can either deliver you recipes or healthy meals.
[00:05:03] There are also some bad spending habits to break that I came across on threads from the
[00:05:08] user Timely Bills.
[00:05:10] Buying expensive food brands and buying more than you need.
[00:05:13] I have no problem buying generic brands.
[00:05:16] I know coming up we pretty much brought major brands, but since it's just me, I
[00:05:23] will buy generic.
[00:05:24] Every now and then I'll buy a major, but yeah, it's all about saving.
[00:05:28] Eating out multiple times a week.
[00:05:30] And I'm sure we can all cut back on that.
[00:05:32] Excessive shopping during sales you don't need.
[00:05:34] I'm so guilty of this.
[00:05:36] The only time I shop is on sale though.
[00:05:38] I will say that.
[00:05:39] I don't just buy, shop just to be shopping.
[00:05:42] It's got to be on sale.
[00:05:44] Going out every weekend partying.
[00:05:46] That's never been my thing.
[00:05:48] Financing a car and changing cars often.
[00:05:50] Dipping into savings for your wants.
[00:05:53] I'm sure we've, some of us have done that.
[00:05:57] And it reminds me of Kevin Hart.
[00:05:59] He has that bit where he talks about that, you know, you got to move your savings into
[00:06:04] your checking and you know the way my savings is set up.
[00:06:07] It's funny.
[00:06:08] You got to see it, but that's what it reminds me of.
[00:06:10] If you have done any of these steps or if you have any suggestions on some steps
[00:06:15] that can help, I would love to hear about it.
[00:06:18] At Drayus Point of View at yahoo.com.
[00:06:21] My positive news story comes from Chicago.
[00:06:24] High school student Mario Hoover got the first perfect ACT score in the 42 years of his school
[00:06:31] Providence St. Mel.
[00:06:33] He got a 29 on his first try along with having a 3.9 GPA, volunteering and singing in the
[00:06:38] choir and more.
[00:06:40] He wants to become a neurosurgeon.
[00:06:42] I know whoever raised him is very proud.
[00:06:46] Don't forget you can leave a review at my website at thedrayuspointofview.com.
[00:06:51] As always, thank you for listening.
