[00:00:03] It's time to feel the rage! Welcome to Film Rage where we talk movies, in theaters, streaming, and classic films as well. Directors and actors beware as you cannot hide from the rage. My name is Bryson, I'm part of the Film Rage crew, which also includes Jim. Are you ready for this week's episode, Jim? It's gonna be a big one.

[00:00:21] I am so excited and yes.

[00:00:28] Excellent. And also we have the Merman! Hey there, Murray.

[00:00:31] Yo.

[00:00:31] Hey, who are you cheering for Monday night? Rams? Vikings? They're your teams, aren't they?

[00:00:35] I have a dilemma. Always and always it won't be the Steelers.

[00:00:40] Alright.

[00:00:41] I'm hoping the Rams, but I expect not.

[00:00:43] Oh, I forgot we changed to a sports podcast.

[00:00:47] Eh, we talk a little.

[00:00:47] Just for a couple seconds.

[00:00:49] A little bit of everything.

[00:00:50] We're an entertainment show.

[00:00:53] Foosball's almost over, Jim.

[00:00:54] Is it? I thought it went all year round.

[00:00:57] So with the introductions out of the way.

[00:01:00] What's Rage on?

[00:01:07] Well, that's new.

[00:01:08] Nice.

[00:01:09] Thanks to all who've been supporting us.

[00:01:12] If you love our independent podcasts, please like, subscribe, share and give us a five-star rating on your listening platform.

[00:01:17] Or support us and join the Film Rage community by joining our membership at buymeacoffee.com forward slash Film Rage YYC.

[00:01:23] If you cannot commit to a membership, you can still buy us a movie rental and dare us to see a terrible film.

[00:01:30] And if it played in cinema anywhere in the world, we'll watch it.

[00:01:33] All right.

[00:01:34] Let's get to this jam packed rage fest.

[00:01:37] Let's get to raging.

[00:01:39] But first, I'm going to do a quick recap of 2024.

[00:01:48] Now, I'm going to see if I can do this.

[00:01:50] Murray, you got a stopwatch?

[00:01:51] Sure.

[00:01:51] See how fast I can do this.

[00:01:53] So I'm going to list down for all of our listeners, all the countries that downloaded Film Rage in 2024.

[00:02:01] And it's in order of our greatest listeners.

[00:02:05] So the U.S. has basically tripled our listening over Canada.

[00:02:09] So apparently we're speaking to the U.S. public here for the most part.

[00:02:15] All right.

[00:02:16] Here we go.

[00:02:16] You ready?

[00:02:17] Yeah.

[00:02:18] Okay.

[00:02:18] U.S., Canada, Singapore, U.K., Germany, Australia, Finland, Japan, France, Switzerland, Ireland, Russia, Austria, India, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Mexico, Romania, Brazil, Spain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, South Korea, Morocco, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Slovakia, Bosnia, Herzegovina.

[00:02:39] Change in music.

[00:02:40] Belgium.

[00:02:41] I didn't even know this country existed.

[00:02:44] Burkina, Faso, Algeria, Egypt, Fiji, Greece, Israel, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, and finally, Vietnam.

[00:03:04] So thank you to all of you who've supported us over the last year.

[00:03:08] We cannot thank you enough for helping us rage.

[00:03:10] That seemed like an alphabetical list to me.

[00:03:13] No.

[00:03:14] No, it's not.

[00:03:15] That's the way it works.

[00:03:15] Because the U.S.A.

[00:03:16] Well, U.S., U.S., Canada, Singapore, U.K.

[00:03:19] Oh, America.

[00:03:20] Marica.

[00:03:20] Oh, America.

[00:03:22] Oh, yeah, Marica.

[00:03:23] Okay.

[00:03:23] So the first two are, first three are in a, well, first four are in a back order.

[00:03:27] No, the last ones were like S-T-U-V.

[00:03:30] Yeah.

[00:03:30] Anyways.

[00:03:31] It's just saying.

[00:03:31] Let's move on.

[00:03:32] It's not medical.

[00:03:33] Yeah.

[00:03:33] It kind of did a little bit, but you know what?

[00:03:35] It's not.

[00:03:36] Okay then.

[00:03:37] And who knew that Singapore was our third most popular country?

[00:03:42] Thanks, Singapore.

[00:03:43] Wow.

[00:03:43] Mm.

[00:03:44] Salute.

[00:03:45] What would the amazing mama predict?

[00:03:53] What would the amazing mama predict?

[00:03:55] Will he predict the rage or will he predict the mondo?

[00:03:59] Will he tell us all what Jim and Bryce saw at the movies over Christmas?

[00:04:05] You're darn right he will, kids.

[00:04:07] Cause here he comes swimming to you.

[00:04:11] Ooh.

[00:04:12] Swimmery, swimmery.

[00:04:14] Swimmery, swim.

[00:04:16] Swimmery, swimmery.

[00:04:18] Swimmery, swimmery.

[00:04:19] Swimmery, swim.

[00:04:19] Swimmery, swim.

[00:04:20] Swimmery, swim all the way to our hearts, our little evil hearts.

[00:04:25] Oh, God.

[00:04:26] So many movies.

[00:04:27] So many movies!

[00:04:29] So this is actually a small list for us.

[00:04:31] Sometimes over Christmas we get a lot more than this.

[00:04:33] Oh, but spoiler alert, I saw them all so you'll have to predict me for all of them.

[00:04:38] Oh, you saw the one that was only me?

[00:04:40] Every single one of them I saw.

[00:04:42] You even went and saw Homestead?

[00:04:43] Now I'm gonna change things up.

[00:04:45] Saw them all.

[00:04:46] Thanks a lot.

[00:04:47] Oh, damn.

[00:04:49] Nice.

[00:04:50] Now I gotta change everything.

[00:04:51] He said he wasn't gonna see them.

[00:04:52] Now I gotta change everything.

[00:04:53] Now I gotta change everything.

[00:04:54] Oh, yeah.

[00:04:54] Saw everything.

[00:04:55] Nice.

[00:04:56] I had a feeling you would.

[00:04:57] Okay.

[00:04:57] This is an order that was typed out here.

[00:05:00] Got you.

[00:05:01] Harbin?

[00:05:02] I'm trying to remember what the hell it was about.

[00:05:04] And only Jim was supposed to have seen it.

[00:05:06] Yes.

[00:05:07] I have a mondo here, so it must have been something that he liked in it.

[00:05:10] It's Korean.

[00:05:12] There it is.

[00:05:12] That's right.

[00:05:13] Korean action movie.

[00:05:14] That's all I had to think of.

[00:05:15] No, it's a Korean War movie.

[00:05:17] It's a Korean War movie.

[00:05:17] Yeah, but it was Korean.

[00:05:18] That's all I had to say.

[00:05:19] That's right.

[00:05:20] To make it a mondo for you.

[00:05:22] Yep.

[00:05:22] I'd say, yeah, what the hell.

[00:05:25] Bryce Mondo as well.

[00:05:26] Okay.

[00:05:28] The Fire Inside.

[00:05:30] Ooh.

[00:05:30] A sports movie.

[00:05:32] A sports biopic.

[00:05:34] A sports biopic.

[00:05:34] Yes.

[00:05:35] Based on a true story.

[00:05:36] Ooh.

[00:05:37] Person I've never heard of before.

[00:05:38] Sounds like Jim's favorite genre.

[00:05:40] He won gold medals and stuff.

[00:05:42] Yes.

[00:05:42] Yeah, it's a sports biopic.

[00:05:44] I'm pretty sure Jim would have raged pretty hard on this one.

[00:05:47] Hmm.

[00:05:48] Maybe Bryce, since he actually likes sports, would have given it a M.

[00:05:51] He likes sports movies.

[00:05:52] Yeah.

[00:05:53] As do I.

[00:05:53] And I like sports.

[00:05:54] And sports.

[00:05:55] You've got to study boxing movies.

[00:05:56] Actually.

[00:05:57] Yeah.

[00:05:58] And then we have my personal favorite, Homestead.

[00:06:02] Yes!

[00:06:02] The one that you and Bryce apparently saw.

[00:06:05] Yes.

[00:06:05] Yes.

[00:06:07] If you didn't rage about this, I'd be very shocked.

[00:06:12] Did you stay for the end?

[00:06:14] Oh yeah.

[00:06:15] I know there's more to come, Murr.

[00:06:17] With a barcode.

[00:06:18] You can download new episodes.

[00:06:19] Ha ha ha ha.

[00:06:21] Ha ha ha.

[00:06:21] Spoiler alert.

[00:06:23] Uh, okay.

[00:06:24] A complete unknown.

[00:06:25] The Bob Dylan story.

[00:06:28] Jim loves his Timothee Chalamet.

[00:06:32] Chalamet.

[00:06:32] I know he loves the Bob Dylan.

[00:06:35] Hmm.

[00:06:35] So let's say Mondo.

[00:06:37] Hmm.

[00:06:37] Bryce.

[00:06:38] Maybe a man.

[00:06:40] Okay.

[00:06:41] Uh, baby girl.

[00:06:43] Baby girl.

[00:06:44] Baby girl.

[00:06:44] My girl Nicole Kidman.

[00:06:45] Yes!

[00:06:46] Very creepy apparently.

[00:06:47] She's definitely your girl in this.

[00:06:49] Baby.

[00:06:50] Uh, double meh.

[00:06:51] Double meh.

[00:06:52] Hmm.

[00:06:53] Nosferatu.

[00:06:54] Nosferatu.

[00:06:55] Yeah, and you got to see this one.

[00:06:56] Which I've been looking forward to this for probably six months.

[00:06:59] Really?

[00:06:59] It's on the trailer.

[00:07:00] Hmm.

[00:07:00] And I have not.

[00:07:01] And I have not as well.

[00:07:03] Yes.

[00:07:03] So let's go meh for Jim.

[00:07:06] Hmm.

[00:07:06] And rage for Bryce.

[00:07:08] All right.

[00:07:10] Mufasa.

[00:07:11] Ah!

[00:07:11] Another line.

[00:07:12] Now you're speaking my language.

[00:07:14] Double rage.

[00:07:18] That's a softball, Mary.

[00:07:20] That's a softball.

[00:07:21] Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

[00:07:23] Yes!

[00:07:24] Which Jim Carrey came out of retirement for.

[00:07:27] Yes!

[00:07:27] Why wouldn't you when you get a script of this quality?

[00:07:29] That's right.

[00:07:30] Double rage.

[00:07:33] Lord of the Rings.

[00:07:34] Whatever the hell that word is.

[00:07:35] The War of the Rohirrim.

[00:07:38] Rohirrim.

[00:07:39] Rohirrim?

[00:07:39] What, you guys don't speak Elvish?

[00:07:42] No.

[00:07:42] It's a fantasy movie and it's directed by some Japanese guy that I know you guys like.

[00:07:47] So let's go Mondo for Jim and meh for Bryce.

[00:07:51] All right.

[00:07:52] Oh my God, I can't believe that.

[00:07:53] That's a lot of movies.

[00:07:54] That's a lot of movies.

[00:07:56] That is outstanding.

[00:07:59] We better get to it.

[00:08:00] Go to it.

[00:08:01] Yeah.

[00:08:02] All right.

[00:08:04] So first one, Harbin.

[00:08:06] Harbin.

[00:08:07] Uh, I've said this once.

[00:08:10] Yes.

[00:08:11] I've said it a thousand times.

[00:08:12] Okay.

[00:08:13] Perhaps the film rage gods, please just let me only see Korean films from now on.

[00:08:20] I completely disagree with Bryce that we only get good Korean films cause, uh, we, the Koreans

[00:08:29] obviously make bad films.

[00:08:30] Wow.

[00:08:31] And I say no because Korea does not have Hollywood machine based on Disney-fying,

[00:08:36] sequeling.

[00:08:37] Yes, Mike.

[00:08:37] And remaking everything.

[00:08:39] So I feel that good original content films are more the norm in this.

[00:08:46] Yes.

[00:08:46] Now this film, this was beautifully shot.

[00:08:49] The real landscapes, the real blood and limited, if not any CGI.

[00:08:55] I think there was.

[00:08:55] Yeah, there was, but it didn't feel CGI.

[00:08:58] Didn't feel really CGI-y.

[00:09:00] Yeah.

[00:09:00] CGI-ish.

[00:09:02] Um, now you're a word.

[00:09:04] What's this about?

[00:09:05] In 1905, Japan decided to take over Korea and we get a band of, of resistance army

[00:09:13] who fight back.

[00:09:14] A lot of them die, but they decide to kill the president of Japan.

[00:09:18] Who's coming to Harbin?

[00:09:20] Prime Minister of Japan actually, but.

[00:09:22] Oh, whatever.

[00:09:23] At the time, who knows?

[00:09:24] Maybe he was.

[00:09:25] Now he was a prime minister.

[00:09:25] Did they still have an emperor back then?

[00:09:27] Uh, they probably did.

[00:09:28] Um, so Harbin, which is in Russia, to make plans to fully absorb Korea.

[00:09:33] What follows is a Korean modern day guns of Navarone type movie with moles and intrigue

[00:09:39] and fantastic Korean war epic, which is in line with every single Korean war based

[00:09:46] film I've seen prior to this.

[00:09:48] More things I loved about this.

[00:09:50] The Japanese evil soldier antagonist was completely epic.

[00:09:55] The stabby, stabby skirmish near the beginning.

[00:09:58] I say stabby, stabby too.

[00:09:59] Nice.

[00:10:00] Because it was super, super stabby.

[00:10:02] Stabby, stabby.

[00:10:02] There's a lot of stabby, stabby in this movie.

[00:10:05] Um, yeah.

[00:10:06] So the stabby skirmish at the beginning was epic.

[00:10:09] So much stabby.

[00:10:09] The girl character in this.

[00:10:11] How, how about this for an idea, Murray?

[00:10:13] They made a movie with a woman in it and she wasn't a love interest at all.

[00:10:19] Yeah, but.

[00:10:20] What a concept.

[00:10:21] I'm sure it ended up that way at the end.

[00:10:23] But she might've been completely out of place in someone's opinion.

[00:10:26] Yeah.

[00:10:26] Maybe not necessary.

[00:10:28] Oh.

[00:10:29] I think she was, it was important.

[00:10:30] It's important quality, right?

[00:10:31] Yeah.

[00:10:32] So, uh, I absolutely love this movie.

[00:10:37] Yeah.

[00:10:37] It was a mondo for me.

[00:10:38] Of course you did.

[00:10:39] All right.

[00:10:40] So it takes place in 1909.

[00:10:42] The Japanese have been in Korea for a while and the Koreans want them out.

[00:10:45] A group of Korean freedom fighters decide that they are going to blow up Japanese Prime Minister Ito in response to the occupation.

[00:10:53] Yes.

[00:10:53] From here there are moles and spies and strange meetings with bearded gentlemen where plans are discussed and then a battle with a lot of stabby stabby.

[00:11:02] Yes.

[00:11:03] Fighting Russians on trains.

[00:11:05] Yes.

[00:11:05] And internal bickering and more spy stuff.

[00:11:08] Yes.

[00:11:08] There are a lot of unnecessary characters.

[00:11:11] No.

[00:11:12] Underdeveloped like smuggler Miss Jong who take away from the time that they could have developed the important characters instead of introducing throwaway ones.

[00:11:21] Harbin is a beautifully shot and well acted movie, but it is also unfocused with clunky uninspired dialogue.

[00:11:29] It really does have the look of a good film, but it is all smoke and mirrors.

[00:11:34] My friends Harbin is a rage.

[00:11:36] This is the first rage I've had on a Korean film maybe ever.

[00:11:39] So the statement of they only we only get their good stuff.

[00:11:42] Apparently we don't.

[00:11:43] Well, we got Harbin and it was awful.

[00:11:46] It was fantastic.

[00:11:47] It is a bore fest.

[00:11:48] You would have slept through the whole thing, Murray.

[00:11:51] Probably.

[00:11:51] It was awful.

[00:11:53] Freaky.

[00:11:53] I wouldn't have been doing this task, Gabby.

[00:11:55] I hated it.

[00:11:56] I absolutely love this.

[00:11:58] And the person I went with it who normally doesn't love Korean films also thought it was great.

[00:12:03] There you go.

[00:12:05] All right.

[00:12:05] So that's two of us.

[00:12:06] I honestly can't believe you gave this a Mondo.

[00:12:08] Oh, wait till you see what it's going to make it on my list.

[00:12:12] No freaking way.

[00:12:13] Maybe.

[00:12:14] Oh, anyways.

[00:12:15] I don't know the 300 Mondos you gave, it actually made your top 10.

[00:12:19] Possibly.

[00:12:20] Here's what I want to say about this film.

[00:12:22] It wasn't anywhere near bad enough to make my bottom five, but that's just because it was some absolutely putrid movies this year.

[00:12:28] I feel this brought me back to what?

[00:12:33] To the original 1940s, 1950s, 1960s films that you had the ensemble casts of Amused Guns of Navarone as an example because it really felt that way all the way through this.

[00:12:46] This had the intrigue.

[00:12:49] I thought the cinematography and it looked really good.

[00:12:52] It was just poorly written and there's just clunky, clunky dialogue.

[00:12:56] It was fantastic.

[00:12:56] I hated this movie.

[00:12:57] I loved it.

[00:12:59] Awesome.

[00:12:59] We're starting off with a bang.

[00:13:01] Sweet.

[00:13:02] All right.

[00:13:03] Okay.

[00:13:03] Next up.

[00:13:04] What is next?

[00:13:05] Fire Inside.

[00:13:07] The biopic boxing movie.

[00:13:09] Yes.

[00:13:10] Do I have to go first on this, Terry?

[00:13:11] I don't care.

[00:13:12] I'll go first.

[00:13:13] I don't care.

[00:13:13] You want me to go first?

[00:13:15] Sure.

[00:13:15] Go ahead.

[00:13:16] All right.

[00:13:16] The Fire Inside is the story of Claressa Shields, a boxster like so many before her.

[00:13:22] She fought her way out of the slums to become a world-class athlete.

[00:13:26] The overplayed cliche of the storyline doesn't benefit from its quote unquote true nature.

[00:13:31] This film seems to gloss over the interesting things in the film, which includes the strides this lady made in garnering equal pay for female athletes,

[00:13:40] all while dealing with a sport where the deck was stacked against women.

[00:13:44] Instead, we get too much focus on a rah-rah Olympic run that felt shallow in so many ways, especially when it's in the face of the other things that Clarissa seemed to stand for.

[00:13:57] I don't know if she stand for all this because we didn't get to delve into it deep enough.

[00:14:01] I just did not like this film.

[00:14:04] It was a rage.

[00:14:05] Nice.

[00:14:06] All right.

[00:14:06] Well, let me tell you, as I always say when it comes to sports movies, was it Rocky one or Rocky two?

[00:14:13] But in this case, it was actually more like Rocky four.

[00:14:16] Right.

[00:14:17] Because she did have to battle a Russian.

[00:14:19] Right.

[00:14:20] Because it's the incredible.

[00:14:21] I will break you.

[00:14:23] Murray, it's the incredible.

[00:14:25] Did the Russian break her?

[00:14:26] No.

[00:14:27] No one breaks her.

[00:14:29] No.

[00:14:29] She's Clarissa.

[00:14:30] She's Clarissa freaking shields.

[00:14:33] Because the Russian broke Rocky.

[00:14:34] What's your nickname?

[00:14:35] She's the...

[00:14:36] T-Rex.

[00:14:37] She's a T-Rex.

[00:14:38] She's a T-Rex with little arms.

[00:14:40] Yes.

[00:14:40] So it's the incredible true story, Marie.

[00:14:44] Oh, sorry.

[00:14:44] Was it or was it the astonishing true story?

[00:14:46] Or was it the unbelievable true story?

[00:14:50] It was just a story.

[00:14:51] Or how about it was just a true story?

[00:14:54] It was just a true story.

[00:14:56] Of guess what subtext?

[00:14:59] It could have been an interesting true story.

[00:15:00] Two movie posters.

[00:15:01] They are all just true stories.

[00:15:04] They're sports movies.

[00:15:05] That's right.

[00:15:05] There's nothing incredible, amazing, or unbelievable about a sports movie.

[00:15:09] There's not.

[00:15:10] There's nothing.

[00:15:10] They can be.

[00:15:11] Never yet to see it.

[00:15:12] Not too many.

[00:15:13] It's not like this person saved a plane or a bunch of puppies or anything incredible.

[00:15:19] They just were an athlete and they worked out really hard and then they won.

[00:15:24] Yep.

[00:15:24] This is not incredible.

[00:15:25] So the story of the greatest female boxer of all times from Flint, Michigan.

[00:15:29] The story is just like every other sports movie.

[00:15:33] Although this one is also super made for TV feeling.

[00:15:36] And the story is really not that interesting.

[00:15:39] Or at least they didn't tell it the way that they probably should have.

[00:15:42] Correct.

[00:15:43] Most of what they hint at being interesting isn't really shown, which is to be boring and

[00:15:52] mundane.

[00:15:53] The real story I feel is the story that we did get some of it about her and her coach, which was a little heartwarming.

[00:16:03] But it's a sports movie.

[00:16:04] But it's a sports movie.

[00:16:04] I didn't really care for any of it.

[00:16:06] Although the acting was okay.

[00:16:08] It's a super horrible rage for me.

[00:16:11] Of course it is.

[00:16:11] Yeah, it was a rage.

[00:16:12] I didn't even wowed me in this at all.

[00:16:14] I totally agree with you though.

[00:16:15] I think, you know, the thing, if she's really responsible on one phone call, by the way.

[00:16:20] Well, that's a whole thing.

[00:16:21] It obviously wasn't one phone call, but this was so lazy in the way they approached all the interesting stuff.

[00:16:26] As they said, let's wrap this part that's actually interesting in one phone call where she goes, I want more money.

[00:16:31] And they say, okay.

[00:16:32] Yeah.

[00:16:33] After her manager.

[00:16:34] After that happened.

[00:16:35] Which totally demeaned her manager after everything.

[00:16:38] It's like, whatever.

[00:16:40] Anyways.

[00:16:40] But yeah, no, it was a...

[00:16:41] It was not an incredible or astonishing.

[00:16:45] And I don't know what...

[00:16:46] Apparently Clarissa Shields thinks this is wonderful, but I think she deserved better.

[00:16:51] I don't know a whole lot about her, but I know enough about her to know she deserved better than this.

[00:16:56] Because she was a figure that made a difference.

[00:17:00] Yeah.

[00:17:01] Not only lifting women's boxing up, but just lifting women's sports up and for equality.

[00:17:06] Like she did a lot of good things.

[00:17:07] Yeah.

[00:17:08] And I think that should have been the whole movie.

[00:17:10] And we got this stupid Olympic rah-rah movie that was just...

[00:17:13] It just fell flat.

[00:17:14] Maybe she was happy because of that.

[00:17:17] I don't know.

[00:17:17] Who knows?

[00:17:18] Because it showed how great she was.

[00:17:19] I guess.

[00:17:21] All right.

[00:17:21] I suppose.

[00:17:22] If it had showed some of her negative aspects, like of her personality and her life, maybe she wouldn't have liked it as much.

[00:17:29] I honestly, I think that's because she was from Flint, Michigan, she's a good boxer, because I think she probably got superpowers from the polluted water.

[00:17:35] Yeah.

[00:17:36] Toads.

[00:17:36] She probably got beat up a lot too.

[00:17:38] Absolutely.

[00:17:38] I think you go one way or the other.

[00:17:39] You either die or you get superpowers.

[00:17:41] And she was one of the fortunate ones who got superpowers.

[00:17:43] Maybe a little of column A, a little from column B maybe.

[00:17:45] Yeah.

[00:17:46] Anyways.

[00:17:47] That's just one man's opinion.

[00:17:48] I could be wrong.

[00:17:49] That's right.

[00:17:49] You're wrong about Harbin.

[00:17:51] So you could be wrong about a lot of things actually.

[00:17:52] I am so right about Harbin.

[00:17:54] You're totally not.

[00:17:55] It is not good.

[00:17:55] All right.

[00:17:56] I guess it's my turn.

[00:17:59] Homestead.

[00:18:00] Homestead.

[00:18:01] First of all, it was not my choice to see this movie.

[00:18:04] I hope not.

[00:18:05] My friend from Toronto was going to it and I wanted to hang out with him.

[00:18:09] So that was a sacrifice I made.

[00:18:10] So look at you making sacrifices.

[00:18:12] It took about 10 minutes into the film and he turned to me and said, I think I made a bad

[00:18:18] pick.

[00:18:18] That was 10 minutes into the movie.

[00:18:20] Yes.

[00:18:22] For those who have-

[00:18:22] I'm surprised it took him that long, merman.

[00:18:25] He is in Toronto.

[00:18:26] For those who haven't heard of this movie, it is 100% a religious conversion film.

[00:18:33] Nice.

[00:18:34] The story such as it was, was that a nuclear bomb goes off in Los Angeles.

[00:18:39] For some reason, this knocks out power in the entire East Coast.

[00:18:44] What?

[00:18:45] So, a zombie apocalypse without the fun zombies.

[00:18:49] What?

[00:18:49] You mean-

[00:18:50] There are no zombies, but it felt like-

[00:18:52] Is this based on a true story?

[00:18:53] Or is there an incredibly true story?

[00:18:55] No.

[00:18:55] Oh.

[00:18:56] People are left without power.

[00:18:58] There's looting and violence.

[00:19:00] And the super religious people all travel to a compound in Colorado, who are actually equipped

[00:19:06] with their own militia.

[00:19:09] Of course, not everybody is allowed in.

[00:19:12] No!

[00:19:12] There are people outside the gates starving, men with guns to keep them out, and a government

[00:19:18] lackey trying to get in.

[00:19:19] What we actually don't get is any violence, bad language, or sex.

[00:19:25] Well, why would you?

[00:19:26] Because like I said, religious conversion film.

[00:19:29] What are you talking about?

[00:19:30] That one kid kissed that other girl on the cheek.

[00:19:33] Oh yeah, it was a kiss.

[00:19:34] That was as far as they went though.

[00:19:35] He gave her a little peck on the cheek.

[00:19:37] Yeah.

[00:19:38] Whoa.

[00:19:38] And I think they were like 17.

[00:19:40] I think they were.

[00:19:41] Was there any finger banging going on?

[00:19:42] No!

[00:19:43] She got a little kiss on the cheek.

[00:19:53] Was there a tongue?

[00:19:55] What?

[00:19:56] What?

[00:19:57] One was white, one was black.

[00:19:58] There you go.

[00:19:59] Wow.

[00:19:59] It was interracial.

[00:20:00] There you go.

[00:20:02] These conversion films are just bringing us all closer together.

[00:20:05] They are making strides, man.

[00:20:08] And they did a lot of praying for things to happen, and they prayed and stuff happened.

[00:20:12] You know what?

[00:20:13] That's the miracle of prayer.

[00:20:15] And actually at the end, as I mentioned, one of the actors showed up after the credits

[00:20:20] was to encourage people to scan the barcode that was up on the screen to download the

[00:20:26] next episode.

[00:20:27] Yes.

[00:20:27] So where was that?

[00:20:29] For a price, of course.

[00:20:31] Yes.

[00:20:31] Of course.

[00:20:32] So I'm sure if you clicked on it, they would say, yeah, $29.99, you could watch the next

[00:20:37] episode or whatever.

[00:20:38] Did one of you scan that?

[00:20:39] No.

[00:20:40] I want to know how much it is.

[00:20:41] No.

[00:20:41] I don't even know how to scan those things, buddy.

[00:20:43] No.

[00:20:43] You don't have a walking around phone anyway.

[00:20:45] No.

[00:20:46] You can get a lot.

[00:20:47] Can I scan it with my-

[00:20:49] A quarter of the screen.

[00:20:51] Scene card.

[00:20:52] You take a picture of it and scan it, but yeah, it's like-

[00:20:54] Yes.

[00:20:55] So yeah, it was like the first episode of a parody entire series.

[00:20:57] You've already talked too much about this movie.

[00:21:00] Yeah.

[00:21:01] Sorry.

[00:21:01] Well, you interrupted me.

[00:21:02] That's your fault.

[00:21:04] This film is so cheesy, so bad, and so fake inspirational.

[00:21:08] How bad cheesy and inspirational?

[00:21:10] Of course it was a rage.

[00:21:12] God, it's so bad.

[00:21:13] I also saw this movie.

[00:21:15] I'm going to keep it really, really quick.

[00:21:17] It was-

[00:21:18] Because Murray did a pretty good job.

[00:21:20] Exactly.

[00:21:20] And I think all you need to know-

[00:21:21] I'm not going to be the only one talking about it.

[00:21:22] All you need to know is it was approved by the Angel Guild.

[00:21:26] There you go.

[00:21:26] You get a disclaimer at the beginning that this movie was approved by the Angel Guild.

[00:21:29] Oh, and it was produced by Angel Films.

[00:21:32] Well, Angel Films, and the Angel Guild is like the Angel Films fan club, basically.

[00:21:36] I don't know if when you saw it, you saw trailers for eight different movies that were

[00:21:40] all produced by Angel Films.

[00:21:41] No, I didn't.

[00:21:42] They all had the same kind of a feel to them.

[00:21:44] Well, we do know this production house.

[00:21:46] All that you need to know is that you just have to believe, Jim.

[00:21:50] All right?

[00:21:50] Just believe, and God will save you.

[00:21:53] That's right.

[00:21:54] And that's the entire movie.

[00:21:55] Jim!

[00:21:56] Jim!

[00:21:56] No, I don't want to hear it.

[00:21:58] Just believe, and God will save you.

[00:22:00] Yeah, but could he save this film from being horrible?

[00:22:03] No, this was a total freaking rage.

[00:22:05] I can't believe that people go to this.

[00:22:08] I realize if you're a super-duper Bible thumper, you're going to maybe eat this up.

[00:22:12] I don't know.

[00:22:13] But it is God awful.

[00:22:14] It had that one famous actor in it.

[00:22:16] Yeah, it had, what's his head?

[00:22:18] The TV guy.

[00:22:18] The blonde dude.

[00:22:19] He's not a TV guy, really.

[00:22:21] He always plays a bad guy, but only a slightly bad guy.

[00:22:24] Not always.

[00:22:25] He was only slightly bad.

[00:22:26] Neil McDonough.

[00:22:27] That's the guy.

[00:22:27] Sorry, I forgot the name of this movie again.

[00:22:29] What's it called?

[00:22:30] Heartland?

[00:22:30] Homestead.

[00:22:31] Oh, Homestead.

[00:22:32] Heartland.

[00:22:33] Bite your tongue.

[00:22:34] That's a Canadian treasure.

[00:22:36] It is Canadian.

[00:22:38] Yes.

[00:22:39] Do you want to know, just for curiosity's sake, what the worldwide gross was?

[00:22:43] I don't even care.

[00:22:44] It was like a billion dollars, probably, because there's so many bloody Bible thumping...

[00:22:49] Down in the States, anyway.

[00:22:50] Yeah.

[00:22:51] Okay, then I won't tell you.

[00:22:52] To me, this movie was a preview of what might happen in the next four years down in

[00:22:56] the US.

[00:22:56] You know what's surprising, though, is usually these pieces of dog crap that get released

[00:23:01] are always like a thousand percent on the popcorn meter on Rotten Tomatoes.

[00:23:06] Rotten Tomatoes, yeah.

[00:23:07] Yeah, this one's only 72%.

[00:23:08] Only 72%.

[00:23:09] Probably.

[00:23:09] Which means that people are fighting back against these idiots that are flooding this with going,

[00:23:14] Oh, best movie ever!

[00:23:16] Yeah.

[00:23:16] Just because it's religious.

[00:23:18] Yeah, the 10 out of 10.

[00:23:19] They're always 100.

[00:23:19] Thank God for trolls.

[00:23:21] That's right.

[00:23:21] If we're going to praise Jesus for anything, let's praise him for the trolls that...

[00:23:25] Yes.

[00:23:25] Are trolling this.

[00:23:26] God bless the trolls.

[00:23:28] Anyway.

[00:23:28] God bless the trolls, everyone.

[00:23:31] Yeah.

[00:23:32] Double rage.

[00:23:33] All right.

[00:23:35] Rage!

[00:23:36] Rage!

[00:23:39] All right.

[00:23:40] All right.

[00:23:41] A complete unknown.

[00:23:42] Yeah.

[00:23:43] Hey!

[00:23:44] I saw this.

[00:23:45] He was a...

[00:23:46] Yeah, you saw everything, remember?

[00:23:48] Yes.

[00:23:48] He was a poet.

[00:23:50] He was.

[00:23:51] He was.

[00:23:51] Groundbreaking artist and a total dick who tracked mud on the carpets of the music industry

[00:23:57] pretty much from day one.

[00:23:59] Nice.

[00:23:59] This film.

[00:24:00] That's the first thing I got to.

[00:24:01] This film is a testament to music biographies and in particular about Bob Dylan and the music

[00:24:11] scene and what it could be in the 60s and in the future and how Bob kept pushing creativity

[00:24:20] further and evolving it.

[00:24:22] Not ever have I seen a biopic about a musician that pretty much had nonstop music from start

[00:24:29] to finish.

[00:24:30] Mm-hmm.

[00:24:31] I loved every single note they played and the performances of everyone, especially my

[00:24:35] little shallow boner who I absolutely just thinks he's knocking out of the park every

[00:24:40] time he gets on the screen.

[00:24:41] Unlike the other musical we got in December, this one had me singing along for two hours

[00:24:45] and 25 minutes.

[00:24:47] I absolutely loved this film and brought me back to my free love passion for possibly the

[00:24:53] greatest writer of music that has ever lived.

[00:24:56] This movie was Mondo.

[00:24:58] I have just a couple things to unpack but I want to hear what you two little beauties

[00:25:02] thought.

[00:25:03] Oh, I guess I'm up next.

[00:25:04] You are.

[00:25:05] Okay.

[00:25:05] Well, I discovered three things from watching this film.

[00:25:08] All right.

[00:25:09] Number one.

[00:25:09] First, Timothee Chalamet is one hell of a singer.

[00:25:13] Isn't he?

[00:25:13] In addition to his acting school.

[00:25:15] He's a better singer than Bob Dylan.

[00:25:17] Second, Bob Dylan was a big jerk in the 60s.

[00:25:22] Yes, he was.

[00:25:22] Yes, he was.

[00:25:23] Lastly, I thought-

[00:25:24] Kind of never got rid of that.

[00:25:25] I don't, lastly, I don't really care about Bob Dylan despite his hit songs.

[00:25:29] I don't care about his life.

[00:25:30] Yeah.

[00:25:31] So yeah, this was not for me.

[00:25:33] Although I did enjoy Chalamet singing.

[00:25:36] I also don't like Ed Norton.

[00:25:38] What?

[00:25:39] This movie didn't really help with that.

[00:25:40] I've never liked him.

[00:25:41] He was awesome in this.

[00:25:43] Whatever.

[00:25:43] So good.

[00:25:44] To be honest, if it wasn't for Chalamet, this probably would have been a rage.

[00:25:48] What?

[00:25:48] So yeah, a low man.

[00:25:50] What is going on, Merman?

[00:25:52] I don't like Bob Dylan.

[00:25:54] I despise the character.

[00:25:54] Oh my God.

[00:25:56] But there is so much Bob Dylan in this.

[00:25:58] There's so much.

[00:26:00] Yeah.

[00:26:00] Just the way he treated, you know, women in his life.

[00:26:03] Yes!

[00:26:03] That was Bob.

[00:26:04] But that's true.

[00:26:05] And his former best friend who discovered him.

[00:26:07] They didn't sugarcoat anything.

[00:26:09] They didn't sugarcoat anything like they do with so many of these movies.

[00:26:11] A complete unknown is hard not to like unless you're the Merman.

[00:26:15] He liked it.

[00:26:16] He gave it a man.

[00:26:17] Timothy Chalamet is convincing as Bob Dylan in look, sound, and mannerisms.

[00:26:22] Edward Norton is completely mesmerizing as Pete Seeger.

[00:26:25] Yeah.

[00:26:25] Every scene with Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash was beyond entertaining.

[00:26:29] It was so good.

[00:26:30] I do like Johnny Cash.

[00:26:31] The music throughout, whether it's Dylan or Seeger or Woody Guthrie or Baez, is perfectly

[00:26:36] infused into the story.

[00:26:37] Mangold never blatantly states in this film that Dylan was the voice of his generation,

[00:26:43] but lets the music do the talking.

[00:26:45] And if you did not know that about Dylan before this film, you understand the influence he

[00:26:50] had on not only music, but the world.

[00:26:52] This film was Mondo.

[00:26:54] Yeah.

[00:26:54] I can't.

[00:26:57] I've yet to see a biopic musical that is even close to this.

[00:27:03] I didn't think this was going to be as good as it was.

[00:27:06] I had hopes for it.

[00:27:08] This almost made my top 10 for the year.

[00:27:10] It didn't, but it almost did it.

[00:27:11] You know what?

[00:27:12] It didn't make mine either.

[00:27:15] Surprise.

[00:27:16] But I really love this film.

[00:27:17] Love this movie.

[00:27:18] And you know what?

[00:27:19] What was cool about it?

[00:27:21] Edward Norton was amazing in this.

[00:27:24] Yeah, Murray, I'm going to go with Bryce on this one.

[00:27:26] I don't like him.

[00:27:27] I never had.

[00:27:28] What is that?

[00:27:29] Can you not separate that from individual performance in a movie though?

[00:27:34] Okay.

[00:27:34] I had never liked the performance of his.

[00:27:36] Put it that way.

[00:27:37] I don't think that's what it is.

[00:27:38] Not even in Death to Smoochie?

[00:27:40] Not one.

[00:27:41] I never saw that one.

[00:27:41] Death to Smoochie.

[00:27:42] He's fantastic.

[00:27:43] Everything I've ever seen in men makes me hate him even more.

[00:27:45] Murder in the First.

[00:27:46] Fight Club.

[00:27:47] Fight Club.

[00:27:47] He was in Murder in the First.

[00:27:48] Yeah.

[00:27:49] The Kevin Bacon one.

[00:27:50] Yeah.

[00:27:50] I don't remember him in that.

[00:27:51] Oh, wasn't he?

[00:27:52] Never mind.

[00:27:53] No, he wasn't.

[00:27:54] Because that movie I love.

[00:27:57] That was Christian Slater and Kevin Bacon.

[00:28:00] That was an awesome movie.

[00:28:02] Whatever.

[00:28:03] Anyway, once again, you guys love your record.

[00:28:05] Instead of Primal Fear.

[00:28:07] I also don't know who the hell Pete Seeger was.

[00:28:11] Hey, that was good.

[00:28:12] Okay, well you must have known who Pete Seeger was.

[00:28:14] No, I don't.

[00:28:15] Never heard of him.

[00:28:16] You never sang that song?

[00:28:18] He's kind of got one song that everybody knows.

[00:28:20] Well, the only song in the movie if that was his, but I may have heard it once or twice.

[00:28:24] I had no idea who he is personally.

[00:28:25] I kind of wish we would have saw a little bit of Peter, Paul, and Mary too.

[00:28:29] And I actually know quite a few 60's music.

[00:28:31] He just passed away.

[00:28:32] But yeah, never heard of the guy.

[00:28:34] Whatever.

[00:28:35] But you might have heard of Warty Guthrie though, right?

[00:28:37] I've heard that name.

[00:28:38] But he was like in his death bed during the movie.

[00:28:40] He was.

[00:28:41] Yeah.

[00:28:42] Those scenes were so good though.

[00:28:43] Didn't actually get to see that guy perform as Warty Guthrie.

[00:28:45] My God, every scene in the hospital room was just so brilliant.

[00:28:50] Not like Chalamet, but not much else.

[00:28:52] All right, well, as long as, hey, got it to a man.

[00:28:54] It's your happy moment.

[00:28:56] Okay, so let's talk about your good.

[00:28:58] Your girl, Nicole Kidman with Baby Girl.

[00:29:01] Yeah.

[00:29:02] Okay, so here's a take on a film plot as old as time.

[00:29:10] Okay.

[00:29:10] A woman who took 19 years to teach her husband how to give her an orgasm

[00:29:15] via stopover, via intern at the office.

[00:29:19] Here's the story.

[00:29:21] See the trailer.

[00:29:22] It's one minute long and tells the entire whole story

[00:29:26] instead of seeing this completely boring portrait of a woman who's a CEO of a tech company,

[00:29:31] who likes to be told what to do.

[00:29:33] No surprises anywhere in this film.

[00:29:35] We have seen it all before.

[00:29:37] And even where the woman is the one in power.

[00:29:42] Many times over, we have already seen women owning their power.

[00:29:46] And this is what confuses me about this.

[00:29:49] Is this to show us that women can take a hold of their sexuality?

[00:29:52] Or was it just to bore us for basically two hours and we see Nicole Kidman have hotel sex with a younger man for most of this?

[00:30:02] Basically, this has no substance.

[00:30:04] This is horrible.

[00:30:05] This was, I think, trying to tell us it's okay that women can, you know, if they have a good reason, anything they want to do to make themselves happy.

[00:30:16] Instead of being honest and reaching their husband and trying to teach him how to pleasure themselves.

[00:30:23] This was boring.

[00:30:25] It was way too long.

[00:30:26] I hated just about every single thing about this movie.

[00:30:28] I just, I really, really hated it.

[00:30:31] I don't understand how anybody could watch this movie and think it was entertaining one iota.

[00:30:36] Like in contrast to us talking about queer a couple weeks ago where you've got fantastic gay sex on screen.

[00:30:46] We have sex on screen with these two.

[00:30:48] It felt awkward and weird and it didn't seem to fit the entire movie.

[00:30:51] It was like a 30 year age difference.

[00:30:52] Well, there was a 30 year age difference in the gay sex and queer too.

[00:30:55] But anyway.

[00:30:56] Yeah, I freaking hated this movie.

[00:30:58] Hated it.

[00:30:59] Hated it.

[00:30:59] Wow.

[00:31:00] Yeah.

[00:31:01] Wow.

[00:31:02] Did you see it?

[00:31:03] Get it right.

[00:31:04] Wow.

[00:31:06] Baby girl is horrible.

[00:31:11] Are you ready?

[00:31:12] Yeah.

[00:31:13] It's a, are you ready?

[00:31:15] Yeah.

[00:31:16] Repetitive mess that takes me back to the days of HBO after dark, which makes it hard to take it seriously.

[00:31:24] It did.

[00:31:26] It did.

[00:31:26] Watching Nicole Kidman's orgasm face repeatedly was more awkward than sexy.

[00:31:32] Every relationship in the film was on some level not believable.

[00:31:37] Yes.

[00:31:37] Especially the marriage between Romy and Jacob, Kidman and Antonio Banderas.

[00:31:42] Antonio Banderas.

[00:31:43] The conclusions that arise at the end of the film are unintentionally laughable and the very ending was just kinda dumb.

[00:31:50] Hated this and everyone in it raged.

[00:31:54] You know what?

[00:31:55] What?

[00:31:55] I forget.

[00:31:56] Did we see this one together?

[00:31:57] We did.

[00:31:58] I couldn't stop rolling my eyes through this entire movie.

[00:32:01] Honestly, I knew you didn't like it, but I try not to let on what I think usually, but holy crap, this was awful.

[00:32:08] It was so bad.

[00:32:09] And I, you know, here's the thing.

[00:32:11] We've talked about this before.

[00:32:13] Antonio Banderas is one of the best Spanish actors that has ever lived.

[00:32:19] For some reason, when he talks English.

[00:32:21] When he gets put into English speaking roles, he's just as horrible as every other American acting in this movie.

[00:32:28] Yeah.

[00:32:29] This was, this was so, there's people that this was like one of their favorite movies of last year.

[00:32:34] Like, I don't understand if they're thinking, like, I don't know if they're trying to say, like, what I'm thinking that people are thinking is, rah rah for Nicole Kidman for owning her sexuality.

[00:32:43] Yeah.

[00:32:44] She didn't fucking own anything in this.

[00:32:46] It was just.

[00:32:47] She was just a whore.

[00:32:48] This was just a mess.

[00:32:49] It was, and you know, if she was really trying to own herself, she should have taught her husband 19 years before how to give her an orgasm.

[00:32:58] Yeah.

[00:32:58] How about that?

[00:33:00] So bad.

[00:33:02] So, so bad.

[00:33:05] Rage!

[00:33:07] I probably would've gone to it just for Nicole.

[00:33:11] But yeah.

[00:33:12] Yeah.

[00:33:12] I wouldn't have liked it either.

[00:33:13] I don't think.

[00:33:13] No, I don't think so.

[00:33:14] Maybe, maybe.

[00:33:15] It's not a little too, like, a little too 50 shades.

[00:33:18] It was a little 50 shady, I guess.

[00:33:20] A little bit, I guess.

[00:33:21] I don't know.

[00:33:22] All right.

[00:33:22] Okay.

[00:33:23] I want to say.

[00:33:23] I just want to wipe fricking Nicole Kidman's orgasm face out of my brain forever.

[00:33:29] Well, speaking of orgasm faces, let's talk about Nosferatu.

[00:33:33] Ah.

[00:33:34] Now, what's that expression again?

[00:33:36] Putting lipstick on a pig?

[00:33:38] Mm.

[00:33:39] Sorry, I mean lipstick on a Dracula.

[00:33:41] Mm.

[00:33:41] Or maybe it's Romeo and Juliet.

[00:33:44] Or perhaps it's lipstick on a Christmas Carol.

[00:33:46] Mm.

[00:33:47] But definitely not Nosferatu.

[00:33:50] Sure, we all know Eggers knows atmosphere, which in this is rich and thick as pea soup

[00:33:57] with atmosphere.

[00:33:57] Um, and as always, Nick was great and Willem was great, as was most of the cast.

[00:34:05] But I don't think Lily Rose Depp has the depth this character needed.

[00:34:10] And it was definitely obvious compared to the rest of her cast.

[00:34:14] And can we just leave a film clearly made in black and white as black and white?

[00:34:21] On top of that, I've said this a thousand times before.

[00:34:24] We don't need another version of this film when the original is perfect.

[00:34:29] It's perfect and a hundred years of cinema.

[00:34:32] And we still can't capture the level of fear that the original monster put us through in

[00:34:38] the very original.

[00:34:40] Instead, we get, and I hate to say this about my boy Billy, Skarsgård.

[00:34:46] Mm.

[00:34:46] And I mean, it's not his fault because he's playing a role.

[00:34:49] But this Nosferatu wasn't even scary.

[00:34:52] Nope.

[00:34:53] We didn't need this film.

[00:34:54] It was too long.

[00:34:55] It added nothing new or original to the story.

[00:34:57] I didn't love this at all.

[00:34:58] In fact, at times, I didn't even like it at all.

[00:35:00] It's getting a very, very, very, very low math for mostly the atmosphere and the score.

[00:35:07] The score is fantastic.

[00:35:09] Um, cause the rest of it, I just found another Dracula film that just wasn't.

[00:35:14] And the CGI snow was so horrible in the original Nosferatu.

[00:35:21] But they had rats.

[00:35:22] Yeah, they had rats.

[00:35:23] The only thing they, they didn't have in the original Nosferatu doesn't fuck Lily in the

[00:35:28] original either.

[00:35:29] Yeah.

[00:35:29] Which makes no fucking sense.

[00:35:31] I don't know why they needed to sexualize this movie.

[00:35:34] It has nothing to do with sex, the original film.

[00:35:36] This just fucking sucked.

[00:35:37] Well, the ending, the ending confused me, but yeah.

[00:35:40] This sucked the blood out of my whole body.

[00:35:43] Unless it was in the book that, I don't think that's how the original ended.

[00:35:45] But yeah, I didn't like the way it ended.

[00:35:47] This, this was so close to a rage for me.

[00:35:49] If I didn't love the atmosphere, this would have made a rage.

[00:35:52] Yeah, well I, I knew that going in you weren't gonna like it, so.

[00:35:55] And what say you Murr?

[00:35:57] Not quite that.

[00:35:59] Alright.

[00:36:00] Uh, finally, a vampire film worth watching.

[00:36:03] Cause I've seen a lot of bad shit over the last year and a half.

[00:36:07] One of them starred Nicholas Holt.

[00:36:10] Yeah, it was great.

[00:36:10] No, it was not.

[00:36:11] It was fantastic.

[00:36:12] Uh, I don't remember the original.

[00:36:14] Plus it was a silent film.

[00:36:16] So the story was a little harder to follow.

[00:36:18] Not really.

[00:36:19] Uh, this version at least was taken directly from the brand Stoker book.

[00:36:23] Hmm.

[00:36:24] In this case we have the Skarsgard as the Count.

[00:36:28] The greatest of all Skarsgårds.

[00:36:29] Nicholas Holt as the Keanu Reeves character.

[00:36:32] Johnny Depp's daughter as the Winona Ryder character.

[00:36:37] Aaron Taylor Johnson as some random dude.

[00:36:39] And of course the great Willem Dafoe as the Van Helsing.

[00:36:44] Uh, it was certainly bloody and violent as a vampire film should be.

[00:36:49] And dark.

[00:36:51] Oh so dark.

[00:36:52] I was really looking forward to this film.

[00:36:55] And I was mildly disappointed.

[00:36:58] Uh, it was good.

[00:36:59] But I still prefer the Gary Oldman version.

[00:37:03] So, very high man.

[00:37:06] Alright.

[00:37:06] Okay.

[00:37:09] Alright Brace.

[00:37:10] You're a huge Eggers fan.

[00:37:13] So I'm a huge Eggers fan.

[00:37:15] I am like so anxious to hear what you think of this new Eggers.

[00:37:18] Well sir, this film was doomed from the start.

[00:37:21] No!

[00:37:21] As the original was not going to be topped.

[00:37:23] Everything fell flat.

[00:37:24] Especially the design of Count Orlok.

[00:37:27] He kinda looked like-

[00:37:28] Thank you!

[00:37:28] He looked like Snidely Whiplash from Dudley Do-Roy cartoons.

[00:37:31] He had a beard or a mustache.

[00:37:33] Yeah, it's weird.

[00:37:34] What the fuck was that?

[00:37:34] I'm like at Snidely Whiplash.

[00:37:36] Yeah, I'm here.

[00:37:38] I was underwhelmed from the beginning right through to the end.

[00:37:42] Was there some cool visuals?

[00:37:43] And was the sound great?

[00:37:44] Yes.

[00:37:45] Of course there was!

[00:37:45] This is an Eggers film!

[00:37:47] Yes!

[00:37:48] But with its inevitable comparison to the original, it was impossible to succeed in this endeavor.

[00:37:54] He just had no chance.

[00:37:55] He literally had no chance.

[00:37:57] He had no chance.

[00:37:57] So why did he do it?

[00:37:58] Why did he do it?

[00:37:59] This was not terrible, just not necessary.

[00:38:03] Yes!

[00:38:03] It was a low, low mess.

[00:38:07] What is happening right now?

[00:38:09] We didn't even watch this together.

[00:38:11] Did we watch it together?

[00:38:12] No!

[00:38:12] We didn't watch it together!

[00:38:14] We didn't even know-

[00:38:15] We didn't know what each other thought, but you could have flip-flopped our reviews.

[00:38:18] They're the same!

[00:38:20] I went on Boxing Day, this is my double feature day.

[00:38:23] Oh!

[00:38:24] So yeah.

[00:38:25] We watched it through the same eyes this time, Jim.

[00:38:29] Okay, so in defense to Harbin, I am a huge fan of war movies and Bryce is not.

[00:38:36] Oh, why are we talking about Harbin, that piece of crap still?

[00:38:39] You mean the Mondo?

[00:38:40] Yeah.

[00:38:41] The Rage.

[00:38:42] That might make my favorite film of last year.

[00:38:45] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:38:45] Can we move on?

[00:38:46] It quite possibly could be my most-

[00:38:47] Please let us move on.

[00:38:48] Wait, you know what to do?

[00:38:49] You got buttons to press.

[00:38:53] Alright.

[00:38:54] Alright, okay.

[00:38:55] Alright, go ahead.

[00:38:56] We're cranking this through!

[00:38:57] Don't talk about your crunches.

[00:38:58] We've only got three films left and all of them are animated.

[00:39:01] They're all-

[00:39:02] They are, aren't they?

[00:39:04] They are!

[00:39:04] Okay, let me tell you a story about a live action lion.

[00:39:09] Well, actually a CGI iteration of a live action lion, where we get the prequel to the

[00:39:15] live action Lion King.

[00:39:17] Is that right?

[00:39:17] I'm just-

[00:39:18] I forget.

[00:39:19] Yeah, wasn't there a-

[00:39:19] No, it was.

[00:39:20] There was a-

[00:39:21] Yeah, it's a prequel.

[00:39:21] It was Mufasa and Scar when they were kids.

[00:39:24] No, no, no, but-

[00:39:24] But wasn't there a live action version of the Lion King 2?

[00:39:26] No, there was a live action version of the Lion King 2?

[00:39:29] Yeah.

[00:39:29] Yes.

[00:39:30] Okay, so the Lion King came out and now we're having the prequel to the prequel to that.

[00:39:32] Okay, so this isn't the-

[00:39:34] This wasn't the prequel to the Lion King, the original animated film.

[00:39:37] It's the-

[00:39:38] It's the CGI live action reimagining of the-

[00:39:43] I don't know if it was the same-

[00:39:44] I don't know if it was the same character-

[00:39:45] Same actor.

[00:39:46] And you know, ultimately I can't remember what live actions they have and have and does,

[00:39:50] because they just keep making these things-

[00:39:52] They keep making them.

[00:39:52] For some reason.

[00:39:54] Just wait for Snow White to come out.

[00:39:55] Well, this isn't really live.

[00:39:56] Don't even get me started.

[00:39:57] How is this live action?

[00:39:58] It-

[00:39:59] I-

[00:39:59] Because it's CGI instead of animated-

[00:40:01] I don't know, that's what they call it.

[00:40:03] It's like CGI Lion, so it's live action.

[00:40:06] Anyways, let's get on with it.

[00:40:07] Okay, well, CGI animals are all done to the highest quality of fake animated live action-

[00:40:15] Yes.

[00:40:15] Than most fake animated animal films.

[00:40:19] I mean, except the Planet of the Apes series, which I think Bryce still thinks they're wearing costumes.

[00:40:24] But like-

[00:40:25] Those were impressive costumes.

[00:40:26] I'm still-

[00:40:26] They're real apes?

[00:40:27] I'm still-

[00:40:28] I think maybe they're real apes.

[00:40:30] No, they're just guys in like costumes, aren't they?

[00:40:32] No, they're real apes, aren't they?

[00:40:33] I think they might have-

[00:40:35] That's how good it looked.

[00:40:36] That's how good it looked.

[00:40:37] Yeah, so the CGI is great-ish, except for the water.

[00:40:41] And I go, well, doesn't Disney own the Avatar franchise?

[00:40:44] They do.

[00:40:44] So why did they not get the Avatar water CGI?

[00:40:48] Water?

[00:40:48] Because the water was horrible in this.

[00:40:50] In this, we get a movie-

[00:40:52] As long as you don't use the fire CGI from Avatar.

[00:40:54] Yeah, exactly.

[00:40:55] No, just the water.

[00:40:56] He got water right this time.

[00:40:58] He's gonna get fire right next time.

[00:40:59] Oh, I thought that was okay.

[00:41:00] He's gonna get $3 billion to make CGI fire.

[00:41:03] To make CGI fire instead of the-

[00:41:05] We've made- I have made fire!

[00:41:06] Instead of striking a match.

[00:41:08] Exactly.

[00:41:09] And making real stuff.

[00:41:11] No, he wants to spend $3 billion to make CGI fire.

[00:41:14] Anyways, you were saying.

[00:41:14] So in this, we get a movie that was never needed in a format that's annoying.

[00:41:19] And I mean, only worst thing about CGI live action talking animal movies that follow zero reality is when you make a road trip movie adding in all the characters from the first Lion King and throw so much dialogue in.

[00:41:33] Any kid watching this would have been bored out of their motherfucking skulls.

[00:41:37] I mean, I know I was.

[00:41:39] We had what seemed like hours and hours of talking as our crew was road tripping.

[00:41:49] And then I guess the director would say, you know what's missing from here?

[00:41:52] We've been talking for, it seems like six hours.

[00:41:54] Another song.

[00:41:55] Let's add a song or two.

[00:41:56] Which were also not very good.

[00:41:59] Terrible.

[00:41:59] The story was very transparent.

[00:42:01] I mean, this is Mufasa's origin story.

[00:42:03] So if you've seen the Lion King, you kind of know what's gonna happen.

[00:42:06] Is that Scar's origin story?

[00:42:08] No.

[00:42:09] Kind of both.

[00:42:10] Mufasa was Mufasa all the way through, but it was this adopted brother of his, Scar or whatever, that's evil.

[00:42:17] Ultimately, Mufasa is the adopted one.

[00:42:19] Yeah, in this one, it's Mufasa's adopted.

[00:42:22] Oh, I thought Scar was the adopted one.

[00:42:23] Oh, there you go.

[00:42:25] So maybe it was-

[00:42:26] So maybe you need to see this.

[00:42:27] Maybe you need to see this.

[00:42:29] You got some learning to do, mister.

[00:42:30] Maybe Scar had a point.

[00:42:32] He was the rightful king.

[00:42:34] Yes!

[00:42:34] Yes!

[00:42:35] Absolutely!

[00:42:36] Yes, okay.

[00:42:36] Now you can go watch that movie again through different eyes.

[00:42:39] That's right.

[00:42:39] Okay.

[00:42:40] You know what? Mufasa's a dick.

[00:42:41] Apparently he was.

[00:42:41] He is a dick.

[00:42:42] Wait, I'm not even there yet.

[00:42:43] Let me finish this.

[00:42:45] I'm actually trying to figure out who this was actually made for.

[00:42:49] I mean, kids will maybe relate to it because they're talking animals.

[00:42:54] Maybe.

[00:42:54] They do like talking animals.

[00:42:55] They do like talking animals.

[00:42:56] They do like talking animals for some reason, but I really feel there isn't enough singing

[00:43:01] to keep them interested because this is so much close up CGI talking animals.

[00:43:07] There's a lot of talky-talky.

[00:43:08] There's a lot of-

[00:43:09] It's not just talking.

[00:43:10] It's CGI close up talking animals.

[00:43:13] And singing.

[00:43:14] Did you see the expressions on their face, Jim?

[00:43:16] No.

[00:43:17] You could see expressions.

[00:43:18] They're not real animals.

[00:43:19] Yeah.

[00:43:19] But you could see the joy and the fear all in your eyes.

[00:43:24] It was so good.

[00:43:25] Yeah, because that's what kids are wanting to see.

[00:43:26] Just make it animated.

[00:43:27] Anyway.

[00:43:27] She just made it animated.

[00:43:28] So anyway, this seemed like the plot was kind of complex, but also at the same time expands

[00:43:34] to really nothing.

[00:43:35] The CGI animals were well done.

[00:43:38] There really isn't much humor in it at all.

[00:43:40] I didn't laugh once through this entire movie.

[00:43:42] And it's a road trip movie where we needed live action CGI talking and singing animals.

[00:43:49] I didn't get it.

[00:43:50] I didn't like it.

[00:43:51] And it's two minutes shy of two hours, which I think if they were making this as a kid's

[00:43:56] film, there's no fucking way a kid who would maybe even think this was any good would

[00:44:01] last for two hours to see talking, singing CGI live action animals.

[00:44:07] This was the biggest rage over the Christmas vacation for me.

[00:44:10] I hated everything about it.

[00:44:12] And I just have one thing to unpack, which was who was the victim here?

[00:44:17] I suggested scar.

[00:44:18] I agree with you.

[00:44:19] I was on time.

[00:44:21] He totally moved in on his girl.

[00:44:24] Yeah.

[00:44:24] Major point.

[00:44:25] It's bros before hoes, man.

[00:44:27] Yeah.

[00:44:28] That's the first rule of lions.

[00:44:29] Sorry.

[00:44:30] Lead CGI live action and I'm talking animals.

[00:44:33] I tell you.

[00:44:34] All right.

[00:44:35] Did you ever say to yourself, I would like to see a film about Simba's dad, Mufasa?

[00:44:38] No, I never said that once.

[00:44:41] Well, if you said yes, then I guess this was made for you.

[00:44:45] If you do not even know what I am talking about, then don't see this film.

[00:44:49] Unless you need some bad musical numbers performed by CGI lions in your life, then definitely see this.

[00:44:56] I hated this and I cannot even believe I kept my eyes open through the entire thing.

[00:45:02] But at least, but, but.

[00:45:03] But there's a big, but.

[00:45:05] But at least I got to see it in IMAX 3D.

[00:45:08] Oh.

[00:45:10] Rage.

[00:45:10] Rage.

[00:45:11] You know.

[00:45:12] This was god awful.

[00:45:13] I don't even want to talk about it.

[00:45:14] Jim covered everything you need to hear.

[00:45:16] It's just bad.

[00:45:20] It's horrible.

[00:45:22] Rage.

[00:45:22] Okay.

[00:45:24] Surprise, surprise.

[00:45:25] Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

[00:45:28] Oh, good.

[00:45:28] Yes, sir.

[00:45:29] Okay.

[00:45:29] It's no surprise.

[00:45:31] I don't like anything about video game movies.

[00:45:35] What?

[00:45:35] The concept to begin with, where you have video games brought into a human universe is completely

[00:45:42] idiotic and stupid, which is me most of the times, as we know.

[00:45:46] And most of the times the stories of video games movies are all throw away anyway.

[00:45:52] And we have already seen in the other Sonic movies, they have the exact same plot.

[00:45:59] All right.

[00:45:59] Bad guy who's misunderstood.

[00:46:01] Then they fight Sonic.

[00:46:03] He convinces them to be a better person.

[00:46:05] They make up and then you pass the boss level and the movie ends.

[00:46:09] So no surprise.

[00:46:11] This is not different than any of its predecessors.

[00:46:15] Can't miss formula.

[00:46:16] Except.

[00:46:17] Yes.

[00:46:18] This one.

[00:46:19] Canna Reeves.

[00:46:20] Was all of that.

[00:46:21] Mm-hmm.

[00:46:23] Same awfulness.

[00:46:24] Yes.

[00:46:25] But it was also a Mission Impossible type story that had Jim Carrey playing himself

[00:46:30] and his grandfather in some of the funniest scenes he has ever done.

[00:46:35] And the dialogue at time was adult centered and made me laugh every, and not just one

[00:46:41] time, Murray.

[00:46:42] Every single time he was on screen with himself together, I was laughing my ass off.

[00:46:48] Everything else was basically throw away as I predicted after seeing the trailer.

[00:46:53] But I was wrong about one thing.

[00:46:55] I actually had fun in this movie.

[00:46:57] Really?

[00:46:58] This was the best of all of the Sonics.

[00:47:00] We didn't need it at all, but I laughed so much at this.

[00:47:03] It made, brought it to meh for me.

[00:47:04] Wow.

[00:47:05] I did not.

[00:47:06] I did not.

[00:47:07] I went to this movie expecting I was going to hate it like I've hated every other Sonic

[00:47:10] movie, but I, you heard me laughing through the movie.

[00:47:13] Yeah.

[00:47:13] I laughed too.

[00:47:14] I was laughing my ass off.

[00:47:16] There were some funny scenes.

[00:47:17] It was.

[00:47:17] I couldn't stop laughing.

[00:47:19] The rest of it, it's all horrible.

[00:47:20] It's really bad, Jim.

[00:47:22] I just laughed my ass off.

[00:47:23] So I couldn't.

[00:47:24] And there's James Marsden in it.

[00:47:25] I love James Marsden.

[00:47:26] Yeah.

[00:47:26] That's usually.

[00:47:27] I also love James Marsden.

[00:47:29] He's adorable.

[00:47:29] But you know.

[00:47:30] I am not going to lie.

[00:47:32] As with all Sonic movies, I was absolutely dreading this, but after watching this, I can honestly

[00:47:36] say that this was by far the best of the franchise.

[00:47:39] Hey, that's what I said.

[00:47:40] I actually laughed not as many times as Jim.

[00:47:43] I would say three or four times.

[00:47:46] And here's the, here's the kicker though.

[00:47:48] I wasn't trying to crawl out of my skin the entire time.

[00:47:51] Yes.

[00:47:51] As was the case in the first two films.

[00:47:53] Yes.

[00:47:54] There are some genuinely entertaining scenes, but a few laughs and being better than its stunningly

[00:47:59] awful predecessors do not a good movie make.

[00:48:03] What?

[00:48:04] Okay.

[00:48:04] This was still a rage.

[00:48:06] This is coming from somebody that I think.

[00:48:08] This was still a rage.

[00:48:09] Do you remember?

[00:48:10] It was almost watchable, but it was a rage.

[00:48:14] It was watchable for Jim Carrey.

[00:48:16] It had Keanu Reeves.

[00:48:17] Was Keanu Reeves in this?

[00:48:18] Yeah, he was the other voice.

[00:48:19] Oh, the little fox.

[00:48:21] He was the bad guy.

[00:48:22] Was he?

[00:48:23] No, no.

[00:48:23] Yeah, he was Shadow.

[00:48:24] He was the bad guy.

[00:48:25] Yeah.

[00:48:25] The guy who kicked their asses apparently the whole movie.

[00:48:27] He did kick their ass the whole movie.

[00:48:29] That was Keanu.

[00:48:29] I thought you knew that.

[00:48:30] No.

[00:48:31] Yeah, no.

[00:48:31] It was Keanu Reeves.

[00:48:32] Good for you, Keanu.

[00:48:33] Maybe that's why I loved it so much.

[00:48:34] There you go.

[00:48:35] Keanu Reeves in it.

[00:48:35] He had the Keanu effect.

[00:48:37] There you go.

[00:48:37] Okay, so let me make this clear.

[00:48:38] This movie is really horrible, but I had fun because Jim Carrey is absolutely at the top

[00:48:44] of his game.

[00:48:45] You know what?

[00:48:46] I'm not going to say that your review is totally out to lunch.

[00:48:50] It's an awful movie.

[00:48:52] You fell on the side I was just entertained enough to Matt, and I fell on the side that

[00:48:56] I wasn't quite entertained enough not to rage it.

[00:49:00] I just found it funny because I don't remember what movie it was now, but you laughed once

[00:49:05] in a movie and you gave it a math because of those 20 seconds of film.

[00:49:09] Oh, stop it, Jim.

[00:49:10] It was.

[00:49:11] Remember that, Murray?

[00:49:12] You and your revisionist history.

[00:49:17] You know what?

[00:49:18] Here's what I'm going to say.

[00:49:20] If you liked the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, which we did not.

[00:49:24] You'll love this one.

[00:49:25] You're going to love this one.

[00:49:26] I hope.

[00:49:26] I like the game.

[00:49:28] Because I cannot tell you how funny Jim Carrey is in this.

[00:49:31] I just want to see all the clips of Jim Carrey in this together with himself in this movie,

[00:49:36] and I just want to watch that on repeat.

[00:49:39] That's fair.

[00:49:39] He's a pro at hamming it up.

[00:49:40] That's for sure.

[00:49:41] Okay.

[00:49:42] And then there was one.

[00:49:44] The final CGI animated film.

[00:49:49] No, there wasn't CGI.

[00:49:51] It was.

[00:49:51] It wasn't hand drawn.

[00:49:52] Really?

[00:49:53] Yeah.

[00:49:54] They made, now they're making stuff that looks hand drawn out of CGI.

[00:49:58] Just go to hell, Hollywood.

[00:50:00] Yes.

[00:50:01] Um, so Lord of the Rings meets anime with similar soundtrack slash score that PJ did for the

[00:50:07] Lord of the Rings series.

[00:50:08] It's in the universe of Middle Earth.

[00:50:10] So we do get a few orcs, elves, magic eagles, dumbass leaders of Rohan who apparently don't

[00:50:16] listen to their kids just like the original movies.

[00:50:18] We get a female heroine, some cool battle scenes, amazing animation, and a bit of typical Lord

[00:50:25] of the Rings type storyline.

[00:50:27] As you know, if you've been listening to this, I am a huge fantasy genre fan in films in general.

[00:50:34] And this did fill a void that had been missing since seeing Dungeons and Dragons back in 2023, which I think we all enjoyed.

[00:50:41] Uh, I liked it.

[00:50:42] It was man.

[00:50:43] Really?

[00:50:44] Yeah.

[00:50:44] So apparently this was released to theaters as Warner Brothers had to release something in order to maintain the franchise's theatrical rights.

[00:50:52] And that is exactly what it feels like.

[00:50:54] It is simple, underdeveloped and overly long.

[00:50:58] It's too long.

[00:50:59] Yeah.

[00:50:59] And it will have you absolutely fighting to keep your eyes open.

[00:51:03] Not even a fan boy of the Lord of the Rings will enjoy this.

[00:51:07] This was a rage.

[00:51:08] This was awful.

[00:51:09] I didn't hate it.

[00:51:10] I hated it.

[00:51:11] It was because it was a Lord of the Rings.

[00:51:13] Yeah, was it?

[00:51:14] I don't even know.

[00:51:15] But by the way, this is coming from someone that if you ask me, uh, Lord of the Rings,

[00:51:21] whatever it was, part one, the ring of destiny.

[00:51:25] Yep.

[00:51:26] Rage part two March of the furry ring or whatever it was.

[00:51:31] Rage part three return of the ring.

[00:51:34] Rage.

[00:51:35] Return of the rage.

[00:51:36] Hobbit.

[00:51:37] Rage.

[00:51:38] Mondo.

[00:51:38] They're all awful.

[00:51:40] They're all fantastic.

[00:51:41] And this was worse.

[00:51:43] This was, this was worse.

[00:51:45] That's why it was a man.

[00:51:46] Cause all the other ones were Mondo.

[00:51:47] It's just to give you a little bit of background.

[00:51:51] I hated all of those movies.

[00:51:52] We can tell, but you did like, and usually I like walking around movies and there's a

[00:51:57] lot of walking around in those movies.

[00:51:59] There's so much rocking in these.

[00:52:00] Okay.

[00:52:00] But you did, you do remember you did like dungeons and dragons though, right?

[00:52:03] It was, it was fun.

[00:52:05] Yeah.

[00:52:05] There you go.

[00:52:06] Yeah.

[00:52:06] Lord of the rings.

[00:52:07] It's not fun.

[00:52:07] It's bad.

[00:52:08] It's, it's great, but it's not fun.

[00:52:10] You're right.

[00:52:10] It was not fun.

[00:52:11] No, that was a, we did it.

[00:52:14] We did.

[00:52:14] We did.

[00:52:14] That was a lot of movies, Jim.

[00:52:17] Now we're only like 10% of the way through the episode.

[00:52:20] I'm looking at Jim's, uh, Jim.

[00:52:21] We're almost an hour.

[00:52:22] We got, we got about six hours to go.

[00:52:24] Almost an hour.

[00:52:25] And it's a good thing.

[00:52:27] I'm not doing a minute.

[00:52:27] Let's pick up the pace.

[00:52:28] Come on.

[00:52:29] Go, go, go.

[00:52:30] All right.

[00:52:30] I think I'm not doing my minute.

[00:52:31] This, this, this, an hour and a half.

[00:52:33] Well, you're getting a rage.

[00:52:34] So I don't know you have one.

[00:52:36] Temperature rising.

[00:52:39] Vision blurring.

[00:52:42] Rage taking over.

[00:53:01] Okay.

[00:53:01] So I know Bryce hates it when I have multiple rages, but these, this one is completely

[00:53:09] justified.

[00:53:10] So the first rage, make it quick.

[00:53:12] I'm watching switchback.

[00:53:13] Okay.

[00:53:14] I knew you were watching switchback.

[00:53:16] You always watch switchback while we're doing our episode.

[00:53:18] Okay.

[00:53:19] Hmm.

[00:53:21] So I was super excited.

[00:53:24] This is my first rage.

[00:53:25] I was super excited.

[00:53:26] Cause I thought if I'm going to have to see a live action talking animal musical prequel

[00:53:33] to the live action lion King, I at least want to see this in IMAX.

[00:53:38] So I said to Bryce, Hey Bryce, you know what we really need to do is if we're going to

[00:53:43] see anything in, in IMAX this, this season, we've got to see lion.

[00:53:47] We got to see Mufasa.

[00:53:48] You're welcome.

[00:53:49] And he's like, he's like, yeah, that's a really good idea.

[00:53:52] We should see it in IMAX.

[00:53:53] Cause that's what it was intended to be shown.

[00:53:55] We did.

[00:53:56] We did.

[00:53:57] But what made it even better Murray is you remember the last time it was nice, but it

[00:54:04] wasn't advertised 3d.

[00:54:05] No, no, it was advertised, but Bryce didn't tell me.

[00:54:08] So we, we get there and he's like, Oh, it's the only time we could get.

[00:54:12] It's the only time we could get.

[00:54:13] Was this Chinook?

[00:54:14] Yes.

[00:54:15] So Bryce is like, Oh, by the way, it's also in 3d.

[00:54:19] At least they were.

[00:54:21] The best part was Jim didn't notice until we were basically walking into the theater.

[00:54:24] It's like, here are the 3d glasses.

[00:54:25] Somebody had you the glasses.

[00:54:26] And I'm like, just before he handed him the glasses, I'm like, Oh yeah, by the

[00:54:31] way, it's in 3d.

[00:54:35] So that's like an extra five bucks.

[00:54:36] Yeah.

[00:54:36] But you got the fancy IMAX 3d glasses.

[00:54:39] Yeah.

[00:54:39] You know what?

[00:54:40] I took the glasses off about halfway through the movie.

[00:54:42] Does it make a difference?

[00:54:44] As it never does with 3d.

[00:54:46] It's so horrible.

[00:54:47] For the 30 seconds at a time when it's actually in 3d, you don't need them the rest of the

[00:54:51] time.

[00:54:52] It was fuzzy.

[00:54:53] Okay.

[00:54:53] So it mean, it really doesn't matter because this movie was horrible.

[00:54:57] Okay.

[00:54:57] I would have watched it with my eyes closed.

[00:54:59] So now this is my, this is my real rage because I mean, that was just funny.

[00:55:03] Actually, it was like a big burn that Bryce did on me.

[00:55:06] He's like, you want me to fucking take you to IMAX bitch.

[00:55:09] You're going to watch it in 3d.

[00:55:11] Okay.

[00:55:13] Let me read off the 2024 worldwide box office and see if you guys can guess what my rage

[00:55:20] is for this season.

[00:55:23] The number one, I'm going from number one.

[00:55:25] It's down.

[00:55:27] Number one down to number 10.

[00:55:29] So number one, inside out to number two, Deadpool and Wolverine.

[00:55:34] Okay.

[00:55:34] This is world.

[00:55:35] This is worldwide box office.

[00:55:37] Number three, despicable me for number four, Moana to number five, Dune part two.

[00:55:42] Number six, wicked number seven.

[00:55:44] Okay.

[00:55:45] So now we wicked is a, is a, is a, no, it's not.

[00:55:49] It's technically not.

[00:55:51] You think it's a sequel?

[00:55:52] It's a prequel to number two, number one.

[00:55:55] And it's also part of Wizard of Oz.

[00:55:58] Fair enough.

[00:55:59] Godzilla X Kong, the new empire.

[00:56:01] Sequel.

[00:56:02] Kung Fu Panda four.

[00:56:04] Sequel.

[00:56:04] Then in the last dance.

[00:56:05] Sequel.

[00:56:06] Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.

[00:56:07] Sequel.

[00:56:08] Now this does not change.

[00:56:10] Venom in the top 10.

[00:56:10] Yep.

[00:56:11] Wow.

[00:56:12] So this does not change until we, until we hit number 15.

[00:56:17] So that, that model that you've been pegging off, it doesn't change until we get to 15.

[00:56:23] Yep.

[00:56:23] And then of course, of course the thing that isn't surprising, which yeah, you pointed out

[00:56:28] is half of the top 10 are fucking cartoons.

[00:56:33] Yeah.

[00:56:33] Yeah.

[00:56:34] Well, why Disney?

[00:56:36] Okay.

[00:56:36] If you count all the CGI that's in all of these, they're all animated.

[00:56:41] Actually animated though.

[00:56:42] The entire, the entire top 10 is animated.

[00:56:45] Okay.

[00:56:45] So, and then of course the number 15 movie that changed that was horrible.

[00:56:50] So then, um, if we go all the way to the top 25 movies of last year worldwide, only three

[00:57:01] movies aren't part of this trend.

[00:57:04] Okay.

[00:57:05] So this makes us the worst year in movie history.

[00:57:10] Oh, just you wait.

[00:57:11] I don't know.

[00:57:12] Is it possible to go more than 88% sequels?

[00:57:15] 2025 is going to be worse.

[00:57:17] Trust me.

[00:57:17] Sequels and prequels and remakes.

[00:57:19] Three out of 25 is.

[00:57:21] 88%.

[00:57:22] Yeah.

[00:57:23] It, that was, that's the worst it's ever been.

[00:57:25] Yeah.

[00:57:26] There you go.

[00:57:27] Sure.

[00:57:28] This infuriates me and I can guarantee it wouldn't be in Korea, Bryce.

[00:57:35] That would never happen in Korea.

[00:57:37] Okay.

[00:57:38] Korea would.

[00:57:39] Yeah.

[00:57:39] Yeah.

[00:57:40] Korea's got sequels too.

[00:57:42] I'm sure.

[00:57:43] We've seen one.

[00:57:44] We saw one last year.

[00:57:45] Yeah.

[00:57:45] Uh, wasn't Busan?

[00:57:48] No.

[00:57:48] Well, that was like a while ago.

[00:57:50] Anyways, point taken.

[00:57:50] It was still a sequel.

[00:57:51] Too many remakes, too many sequels.

[00:57:53] Yeah.

[00:57:53] Well, much crap fest.

[00:57:54] Too much crap.

[00:57:55] There's more comments.

[00:57:57] Unoriginality runs rampant in Hollywood.

[00:57:59] We all know that.

[00:58:00] Well, I don't really have a rage since Jim took two.

[00:58:03] I'll keep it brief.

[00:58:04] Uh, big, huge movies that come out on Christmas day, which is a trend, like not just big box

[00:58:13] office movies and ones that are like going to be up for lots of awards.

[00:58:16] I mean, they're popular.

[00:58:17] They all come out on Christmas day.

[00:58:20] So basically I encourage you to not spend time with your families and go to the theater.

[00:58:23] Exactly.

[00:58:24] But when I went on Boxing Day, the theater was packed.

[00:58:27] Okay.

[00:58:27] So everybody's going out on Boxing Day to see movies.

[00:58:29] Why didn't you just go on Christmas day?

[00:58:31] Because it was Christmas day.

[00:58:32] I was watching football.

[00:58:33] Oh, right.

[00:58:34] Yeah.

[00:58:34] He was watching Switchback.

[00:58:35] I was watching my team lose.

[00:58:36] That makes sense.

[00:58:37] Anyway, no, I went on Boxing Day and used two of my freebies.

[00:58:40] And yeah, it was packed.

[00:58:41] Freebie.

[00:58:41] But yeah, like all the big movies of the year come out Christmas day.

[00:58:45] That's stupid.

[00:58:47] Right.

[00:58:47] That's it.

[00:58:48] Well, except when they come out the long weekend in May.

[00:58:50] Well, that's the start of the summer movie season.

[00:58:54] That's different.

[00:58:55] Anyway.

[00:58:56] Yeah, that's all I got.

[00:58:58] People should be drinking.

[00:59:00] Right.

[00:59:01] I'm over.

[00:59:01] May 2 for it.

[00:59:15] Okay.

[00:59:17] Is this related to scene points?

[00:59:19] No.

[00:59:19] Is it related to landmark or Cineplex?

[00:59:23] Is it related to that theater you guys went to?

[00:59:25] No.

[00:59:26] Is it a real?

[00:59:26] Stop trying to guess my rage.

[00:59:27] It's a real rage.

[00:59:28] I'm not that predictable there, Jim.

[00:59:30] Yeah, you are.

[00:59:31] That is not true.

[00:59:32] 88% of your rages.

[00:59:34] I put effort into my rages.

[00:59:36] I don't half ass them like you.

[00:59:38] I hate the fact that studios have limited releases around Christmas just so that they

[00:59:43] can qualify for awards season.

[00:59:45] Yeah.

[00:59:46] This has become more and more ridiculous over the years.

[00:59:49] This year, September 5, The Brutalist, The Last Showgirl, A Better Man, and The Room

[00:59:55] Next Door to name a few, and that's not all of them, all got very limited releases to

[01:00:00] qualify for the 2024 awards season.

[01:00:03] Yep.

[01:00:03] I did not get to see any of them, which is a bit of a problem when I'm compiling a list

[01:00:09] of the best of 2024.

[01:00:11] This is crap.

[01:00:13] Either release your film everywhere to qualify or release your film next year.

[01:00:18] That's my rage.

[01:00:20] You know what?

[01:00:20] That is...

[01:00:21] Has anyone seen The Brutalist?

[01:00:22] Uh, no.

[01:00:23] Because I won three freaking awards at the Globes.

[01:00:25] Yeah.

[01:00:25] I never heard of it.

[01:00:26] What's the Globes?

[01:00:27] The one that the Europeans vote for.

[01:00:30] Is it an award show?

[01:00:31] It's an award show.

[01:00:32] Yeah, it was on Sunday.

[01:00:32] They also give like a crap out for TV.

[01:00:35] No, but The Brutalist won all the awards.

[01:00:36] I never even heard of it.

[01:00:37] Yeah, The Brutalist won a lot of...

[01:00:38] In fact, well, there's a few...

[01:00:39] Uh, another...

[01:00:41] On a tiny aside, Amy Adams got nominated for...

[01:00:46] Something?

[01:00:47] Night Bitch.

[01:00:48] Night Bitch, which...

[01:00:48] Which we never got up here.

[01:00:50] Never came out, yeah.

[01:00:51] But I can't watch it now, so I should do that in the next couple of days, because I do

[01:00:55] want to see it.

[01:00:56] All right.

[01:00:56] Who doesn't want to see Amy Adams being Night Bitch?

[01:00:59] That's right.

[01:00:59] Anyway, so that's my rage.

[01:01:01] Rage!

[01:01:01] It's exciting.

[01:01:10] All right, here we go.

[01:01:12] The moment...

[01:01:13] An hour into our podcast.

[01:01:14] An hour in!

[01:01:15] Yes.

[01:01:16] All right.

[01:01:18] Hit us, Bryce!

[01:01:19] All right, you ready for this?

[01:01:21] Y'all ready for this.

[01:01:22] So, we're gonna start with our Rage 5s.

[01:01:26] 5s for the year.

[01:01:28] That is the worst movies of 2024.

[01:01:32] My list starts with a tie.

[01:01:35] Tied for number 5.

[01:01:40] Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.

[01:01:42] Terrible!

[01:01:43] Unnecessary Sequel.

[01:01:44] Jason Reitman at his worst.

[01:01:47] Also tied for number 5.

[01:01:49] Gladiator 2.

[01:01:52] Terrible!

[01:01:53] Unnecessary Sequel.

[01:01:55] Did not know Denzel Washington could be quite that bad.

[01:02:00] Number 4.

[01:02:02] Hitman!

[01:02:04] Director Richard Linklater.

[01:02:06] Oh, I forgot.

[01:02:07] And Glenn Plowell.

[01:02:09] A match made in hell.

[01:02:11] Did I say Plowell?

[01:02:13] Plowell!

[01:02:13] Plowell!

[01:02:14] He deserves to be mispronounced.

[01:02:16] The new Tom Cruise.

[01:02:17] The new Tom Cruise.

[01:02:17] Yeah, no!

[01:02:18] Linklater and Powell.

[01:02:19] A match made in hell.

[01:02:20] Number 3.

[01:02:22] It ends with us.

[01:02:26] Not Blake Lively.

[01:02:27] This film is a mess.

[01:02:29] And Blake Lively is repulsive no matter what you two say.

[01:02:34] I didn't say anything about it.

[01:02:36] I don't care about her acting.

[01:02:37] She's married to my guy Ryan.

[01:02:39] Yeah, she's hard to watch.

[01:02:41] She doesn't have to act.

[01:02:42] She has like five kids.

[01:02:43] Yeah, but she does act and I have to watch it every now and then.

[01:02:47] Her husband's a billionaire.

[01:02:48] Number 2.

[01:02:50] Twisters!

[01:02:52] Glenn Powell can do no right.

[01:02:54] Terrible!

[01:02:56] Unnecessary!

[01:02:56] We'll call it a sequel.

[01:02:59] Number 1.

[01:03:00] With a bullet?

[01:03:00] Oh, it's gotta be.

[01:03:01] It's gotta be ride or die.

[01:03:03] Bad Boys ride or die, baby!

[01:03:06] Terrible!

[01:03:07] Unnecessary Sequel!

[01:03:09] Jeez, this kinda goes in with your rage.

[01:03:10] That's kind of a theme goal.

[01:03:12] What?!

[01:03:13] Martin Lawrence, however, never lets me down.

[01:03:16] He's always repulsive.

[01:03:18] He's always repulsive!

[01:03:20] God, that was...

[01:03:21] There was a lot of bad movies this year, man.

[01:03:23] Those are six of them.

[01:03:26] Thank the Lord.

[01:03:28] Alright, the merch!

[01:03:29] There's way too many crappy movies to mention.

[01:03:32] Uh...

[01:03:32] Yeah.

[01:03:33] I guess my honorable mentions.

[01:03:34] We're doing that right?

[01:03:35] Yeah, yeah.

[01:03:35] He just didn't make an honorable mention.

[01:03:37] Oh, yeah, yeah.

[01:03:37] I'm not half-assing it like you guys.

[01:03:39] Just willy-nilly throwing all sorts of stuff out there.

[01:03:41] I'm just gonna rattle them off.

[01:03:44] Uh...

[01:03:44] Venom.

[01:03:45] Was awesome.

[01:03:46] Y2K.

[01:03:47] The Crow.

[01:03:49] Civil War.

[01:03:50] Oh!

[01:03:51] And a last place tie for fifth.

[01:03:53] Every horror film that I saw last year.

[01:03:56] Every...

[01:03:56] Now my Rage 5.

[01:03:58] But...

[01:03:58] Okay.

[01:03:59] My actual Rage 5.

[01:04:00] Yes.

[01:04:01] Number 5.

[01:04:02] Twisters.

[01:04:03] Yes!

[01:04:04] Horrible remake of an original movie that wasn't that good in the first place except for Bill Paxton.

[01:04:07] All right.

[01:04:07] Garbage.

[01:04:09] Glenn Powell, you're no Bill Paxton.

[01:04:11] Glenn Powell, you just suck.

[01:04:13] Uh...

[01:04:13] Trap.

[01:04:14] Oh, yeah, Trap.

[01:04:15] As I said before.

[01:04:16] Forgot about Trap.

[01:04:17] No, I remembered it, but...

[01:04:18] I'm pretty sure M. Night made this film for the explicit reason to show off his daughter's singing abilities.

[01:04:23] Mm-hmm.

[01:04:23] That's the only reason he made it.

[01:04:25] Awful.

[01:04:25] Boring and predictable, not to mention ridiculous.

[01:04:27] Yes.

[01:04:29] Reagan.

[01:04:30] Oh, Reagan's awful.

[01:04:31] I actually liked Ronald Reagan before this film.

[01:04:34] Mm.

[01:04:35] Considering how the US election turned out, I'm convinced more than ever this movie was made just to get votes.

[01:04:41] Mm-hmm.

[01:04:42] Maybe a dick is part of it.

[01:04:43] To show how Republicans could actually be nice, because that's the only reason this movie was made.

[01:04:48] Uh, Borderlands.

[01:04:50] Yeah, it was awful.

[01:04:51] Ironically, Jack Black was the best part of this movie.

[01:04:54] Yeah, and Murray's never said that.

[01:04:55] And I can't stand him.

[01:04:56] Everything else was crap.

[01:04:59] Number one, Megalopolis.

[01:05:02] Or as I call it, Crap-a-lop-a-lop-a-lop.

[01:05:05] It's a hard watch.

[01:05:06] Hey, he was taking some swings though, Murr.

[01:05:09] Ratchet-sport Coppola sold almost everything he had to make this.

[01:05:14] And it bombed spectacularly.

[01:05:16] So yeah.

[01:05:17] Good job.

[01:05:17] Good way to go to your grave.

[01:05:19] Good way in your career.

[01:05:21] For the most part, we always seem to agree on our Rage 5s.

[01:05:24] Not always.

[01:05:25] Maybe not your own.

[01:05:26] No, because one of yours is one of my Mondos.

[01:05:28] So yeah, not all the time.

[01:05:29] Oh yeah, he gave Ghostbusters a Mondo.

[01:05:32] That's right.

[01:05:34] All right.

[01:05:34] Okay.

[01:05:35] Okay.

[01:05:36] Here is my Rage Dishonorable Mentions.

[01:05:39] All righty.

[01:05:40] You know what?

[01:05:40] And here's the thing.

[01:05:42] If people, if you're listening and you really want to hear us talk more deeper about these films,

[01:05:47] just go to our website, FilmRageYYC.com.

[01:05:50] Go to our page that has our 2024 reviews on it.

[01:05:53] And just search the movie.

[01:05:54] Because we've got them all there.

[01:05:55] That's how I did it.

[01:05:56] You've got a link directly to it.

[01:05:57] I couldn't remember anything.

[01:05:58] And you can go back and listen to it.

[01:06:00] I had to use the website to do my research.

[01:06:01] There you go.

[01:06:02] I forgot what I watched.

[01:06:03] That's well, we do too.

[01:06:04] Because we see too many movies.

[01:06:06] Okay.

[01:06:06] Number three, Dishonorable Mention is Werewolves.

[01:06:09] So bad.

[01:06:09] Number two is Megalopolis.

[01:06:11] Yeah, that's bad.

[01:06:12] Number one, which probably should have made it into the top five or tied if I was pulling

[01:06:17] a price.

[01:06:19] Tied for five.

[01:06:19] Tied for five.

[01:06:20] Here.

[01:06:21] Tied with trap.

[01:06:23] It's like two syllable words, both syllable-

[01:06:26] One syllable words.

[01:06:27] Syllabalically.

[01:06:27] One syllable words.

[01:06:28] Well, if you do it together as one word.

[01:06:30] It's a here trap.

[01:06:32] It's a here trap.

[01:06:32] It's crap.

[01:06:33] It's great.

[01:06:34] Here trap is crap.

[01:06:36] Number four, Gladiator 2.

[01:06:39] So bad.

[01:06:40] Number three, Reagan.

[01:06:42] Yep.

[01:06:43] And I think Bryce forgot about this one.

[01:06:45] No, no.

[01:06:45] I saw Reagan, but I just-

[01:06:46] No, no.

[01:06:46] Not that one.

[01:06:47] The next one.

[01:06:47] My number two was Protocol 7.

[01:06:51] I did forget about that.

[01:06:52] You totally-

[01:06:52] How did not make your top five?

[01:06:55] I-

[01:06:55] Is beyond me.

[01:06:57] You know what?

[01:06:57] That movie was so, so, so horrible.

[01:07:01] I'd watch it over Ghostbusters.

[01:07:02] But the only-

[01:07:03] No, you wouldn't.

[01:07:04] I would.

[01:07:05] I remember when you walked out of the movie theater of that.

[01:07:07] I didn't walk out.

[01:07:08] We cried out.

[01:07:09] Stumbled.

[01:07:10] I never walk out of anything.

[01:07:12] Okay.

[01:07:13] And the only thing worse than Protocol 7 from last year?

[01:07:17] Yep.

[01:07:18] Bad Boys, ride or die.

[01:07:19] Bad Boys, ride or die.

[01:07:21] The absolute worst movie of last year.

[01:07:25] And why they keep making these fucking horrible Bad Boys movies is beyond me.

[01:07:30] They are the most unlikable people.

[01:07:32] Yep.

[01:07:32] They, like, leave a wake of-

[01:07:34] Oh.

[01:07:35] Of, like, if they're supposed to be cops, they have no-

[01:07:38] It's no wonder people are afraid of cops in the US.

[01:07:41] Yeah.

[01:07:41] Because if this is how they treat people around them, it's no wonder.

[01:07:45] These movies are horrible.

[01:07:46] Just please stop making them.

[01:07:48] Yes, indeedy.

[01:07:49] Just do it.

[01:07:52] All right.

[01:07:54] Armandos.

[01:07:55] You're up, Merman.

[01:07:57] All right.

[01:07:58] You're probably not going to like this.

[01:08:00] Ghostbusters.

[01:08:01] Honorable mentions.

[01:08:02] Yeah.

[01:08:04] Argyle.

[01:08:04] Yes, I liked it.

[01:08:06] Henry Cavill as James Bond.

[01:08:09] Okay.

[01:08:09] That's all I'm going to say.

[01:08:10] I don't give a shit about anybody else.

[01:08:11] I just liked him.

[01:08:13] Uh, Lisa Frankenstein.

[01:08:16] What?

[01:08:16] I kind of like a Heather slash Beetlejuice combo.

[01:08:19] Very 80s.

[01:08:21] Okay.

[01:08:21] Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.

[01:08:23] OG Ghostbusters.

[01:08:25] I don't care about the new ones.

[01:08:26] Gets me every time.

[01:08:28] Fly Me to the Moon.

[01:08:30] ScarJo and Tay Tay.

[01:08:32] Done by the best writer in television.

[01:08:36] Yeah.

[01:08:36] Uh, okay.

[01:08:37] I'm going by top 10, am I?

[01:08:40] All right then.

[01:08:40] Yep.

[01:08:41] Number 10.

[01:08:42] I am Celine Dion.

[01:08:44] Besides being a huge fan of hers, it was devastating to watch what she's going through.

[01:08:49] Good pick, Merman.

[01:08:50] It's a good movie.

[01:08:51] Uh, Renan.

[01:08:52] Unstoppable.

[01:08:54] Uh, a feel good sports biopic that actually was inspirational because the guy had one freaking

[01:08:59] leg and he still did all that.

[01:09:02] Uh, I don't even remember.

[01:09:03] What was Unstoppable?

[01:09:04] It was a wrestler with one leg.

[01:09:05] It was Jennifer Lopez and uh...

[01:09:07] Oh, I never...

[01:09:08] Did I see it?

[01:09:09] Cheadle?

[01:09:10] I think Don Cheadle was in it.

[01:09:11] I didn't see it.

[01:09:11] Uh, it was a sit.

[01:09:12] Uh, I missed it.

[01:09:14] Uh, how can you not root for a wrestler with only one leg?

[01:09:17] Like, he was awesome.

[01:09:17] I never root for people in sports movies.

[01:09:20] Hey, Superman.

[01:09:20] Just grow another one.

[01:09:22] Christopher Reeve's story will always be the best Superman in my books.

[01:09:27] Yeah, it was a good movie.

[01:09:28] He became an even bigger hero of mine after his accident.

[01:09:31] Like, when he actually became quadriplegic, he was an even bigger hero for me.

[01:09:36] But yeah, I was literally six years old when the movie came out.

[01:09:39] So yeah, he was my hero for all time.

[01:09:42] Uh, Wicked Little Letters.

[01:09:45] Raunchy British comedy.

[01:09:46] I love them.

[01:09:47] That's okay.

[01:09:48] We liked it.

[01:09:48] Jesse Buckley and Olivia Colman.

[01:09:49] I love Jesse Buckley.

[01:09:50] Amazing.

[01:09:51] I love Olivia Colman too.

[01:09:53] Last Stop in Yuma County.

[01:09:56] Another great one.

[01:09:57] Easily my favorite of SIF last year.

[01:09:59] Yeah, that made Mondo for all of us.

[01:10:01] Everything I loved about Bad Times at El Royale and more.

[01:10:04] I don't like you compared to Pitt.

[01:10:06] It's the same kind of movie.

[01:10:08] Uh, Humane.

[01:10:10] Baby Baby Cronenberg.

[01:10:12] Perfectly written thriller.

[01:10:13] Yes.

[01:10:13] Also one of my SIF favorites.

[01:10:14] Very good.

[01:10:15] Yeah, it was good.

[01:10:16] Also made our Mondo this.

[01:10:17] Boy Kills World.

[01:10:19] A Skarsgård kicking ass.

[01:10:21] Ooh.

[01:10:22] Count me in.

[01:10:22] The best Skarsgård.

[01:10:23] My favorite of Cuff.

[01:10:24] Not that I got to see a lot.

[01:10:26] Yep.

[01:10:27] Hmm.

[01:10:28] Good Rich.

[01:10:29] I know, you guys hated it.

[01:10:30] Uh oh.

[01:10:31] What can I say?

[01:10:32] Yeah, I hated it.

[01:10:33] It affected me deeply.

[01:10:35] Oh yeah, it did hate it.

[01:10:35] And starred my favorite Batman, Michael Keaton.

[01:10:38] Nice.

[01:10:39] Number two, Saturday Night.

[01:10:42] Yeah.

[01:10:42] Yeah, it was a good one.

[01:10:43] It was very good.

[01:10:43] It made me nostalgic for the OG cast back when SNL was actually funny.

[01:10:49] Hmm.

[01:10:49] This frantic pace was a thrill ride.

[01:10:52] Also, Jason Reitman.

[01:10:54] One of my favorites.

[01:10:55] Anyhow, Jason Reitman had one of the best movies and one of the worst movies.

[01:10:58] I love them.

[01:10:59] I love them.

[01:11:00] Uh, and of course, number one, Deadpool.

[01:11:04] Deadpool.

[01:11:04] Versus Wolverine.

[01:11:06] It was fun.

[01:11:06] No surprise here.

[01:11:08] It was a lot of fun.

[01:11:09] Three Mondos.

[01:11:09] My two favorite Marvel superheroes next to the God of Thunder.

[01:11:13] Nice.

[01:11:14] Reynolds and Jackman together.

[01:11:18] So yeah.

[01:11:19] Sweet.

[01:11:19] There was not a movie that I liked better than that one.

[01:11:21] Very good.

[01:11:22] Nice.

[01:11:22] It was a fun time.

[01:11:23] It was.

[01:11:26] It was a fun time.

[01:11:27] It was fun.

[01:11:28] My honorable mentions.

[01:11:34] Number five.

[01:11:36] Number five.

[01:11:41] Rats.

[01:11:42] Rats is so good.

[01:11:45] I need to tell everybody.

[01:11:47] When I make a list at the end of the year, or the beginning of the year in this case, one

[01:11:52] of the things that I look at other than how much enjoyment I got out of these films is

[01:11:57] how these filmmakers are transforming film.

[01:12:01] And it's not just the way I felt about film in general, but when I, when I had to put two

[01:12:07] films up against each other, I would go, okay, is this one better?

[01:12:11] Is this one better?

[01:12:12] Is this one better?

[01:12:12] It's really tough with when we see an amount of content that we get to see on this podcast.

[01:12:17] But for me, it's like they've done something different that isn't being done anywhere else,

[01:12:23] either by film style or whatever.

[01:12:26] So my list is, is very kind of leans more towards art house and more independent stuff

[01:12:34] because that's where I'm seeing the boundaries of film being pushed.

[01:12:38] I just want to say that rats is fucking hilarious.

[01:12:41] If you're going to show, uh, someone taking a dump on screen where you've got the camera

[01:12:46] right is where the poop lands.

[01:12:48] I'm in from start of frame to end of frame.

[01:12:51] This made me laugh nonstop.

[01:12:52] Probably the.

[01:12:53] It was fun.

[01:12:54] It's I think it's the only comedy on, on this that I, that I had, and I don't normally like

[01:12:58] comedies.

[01:12:59] So number four is a documentary called roll bus roll, a Jeffrey Lewis documentary.

[01:13:05] And I love this mostly because I'd never heard of Jeffrey Lewis before, but when I saw this

[01:13:11] documentary, I went and downloaded all of his music and I've been listening to it nonstop

[01:13:16] for you to make transform me to a fan.

[01:13:18] And if someone could say he knows he's successful because he can afford to buy a piece of pizza,

[01:13:24] anytime he wants, he's my guy.

[01:13:26] Number three was transforming cryptics for me in a vision from, uh, a very artistic.

[01:13:35] Um, uh, I want to say artist is cryptic.

[01:13:39] Uh, I absolutely love this film.

[01:13:42] I think it, this one played a cuff, didn't it?

[01:13:44] I think so.

[01:13:45] I think it was cuff, but yeah, it's, but it's cryptic spelled K R Y P T I C.

[01:13:50] Mm.

[01:13:50] It is mind bendingly fantastic.

[01:13:54] Number two, also a doc called grand theft Hamlet.

[01:13:58] So much fun.

[01:14:00] Um, number one, the best zombie movie I've seen in years.

[01:14:04] Parvulas.

[01:14:05] Yeah.

[01:14:05] That was awesome.

[01:14:06] Yeah.

[01:14:06] Number 10 is, and this one is the absolute best slasher movie that has ever been made

[01:14:14] in the history of slashers is in a violent nature.

[01:14:17] They took us to places that I could never imagine going again with a slasher film.

[01:14:21] It had like mind bendingly fantastic sound for such a low budget film.

[01:14:28] And if you're going to spend 10 minutes cutting somebody up on a saw, dial me in or the choppy

[01:14:34] choppy scene, which you can hear him chopping for like ever, ever.

[01:14:39] It was just, he, he did not, he did not shy away from the gore.

[01:14:43] He did not shy away from the sound.

[01:14:45] He did not shy away from making us feel we were right at home as being a serial killer.

[01:14:50] Yes.

[01:14:51] Okay.

[01:14:52] Um, also another horror movie, my favorite horror movie of last year.

[01:14:59] Number nine.

[01:15:00] The King Tide.

[01:15:01] This is a Canadian director.

[01:15:03] I hope everybody can find, can find this movie and see it.

[01:15:07] Praise be to Isla.

[01:15:09] This movie was so freaking brilliant for being filmed on the East coast of Canada.

[01:15:14] This film transformed, I want to say like folk tales to a whole nother level for me.

[01:15:20] I haven't seen, like, I kind of put cryptic and the King Tide almost in the same vein

[01:15:25] in the sense because they're both kind of folk tale ish.

[01:15:28] But, uh, the King Tide to me was just absolutely brilliant.

[01:15:32] Number eight.

[01:15:33] Uh, probably the most, um, mainstream film that made my top 10.

[01:15:38] And that was Conclave.

[01:15:40] The fact that I could sit and watch people open up pieces of paper for two solid hours

[01:15:45] and have me be absolutely thoroughly entertained.

[01:15:49] Conclave every single actor.

[01:15:51] And this was a tour de force.

[01:15:52] I freaking love this movie.

[01:15:54] Uh, number seven, family therapy, a family that from the very beginning of the film to

[01:16:02] the end of the film was a family that wasn't aligned per se.

[01:16:08] Um, but by the end of it, they are absolutely aligned.

[01:16:11] This film was, I can't even, it was amazing.

[01:16:15] It's such an amazing film.

[01:16:16] That that's the one film.

[01:16:17] I will just say, if I had an honorable mention, it was the one that almost got in and I swapped

[01:16:23] it out with something else at the last second.

[01:16:25] Oh, well.

[01:16:26] Uh, yeah, it's brilliant.

[01:16:27] This film.

[01:16:28] Um, number six, small things like these with Killian Murphy in his most brilliant portrayal.

[01:16:37] If you thought he was good in Oppenheimer, you ain't seen nothing yet.

[01:16:41] He can just sit there and make a face.

[01:16:43] And it makes me more excited to see 28 years later that hit this film was, was so brilliantly

[01:16:49] done.

[01:16:49] Uh, number five from China called black dog.

[01:16:53] This film, uh, is visually one of the most visually brilliant films I've ever seen and

[01:17:00] how you can take like a decaying city in China and turn it into, um, just one of the most

[01:17:07] interesting films I've seen.

[01:17:09] It, it's mind bending.

[01:17:10] It was really good.

[01:17:12] Number four, who would have thought, uh, watching Sasquatch's masturbate and have sex

[01:17:18] could be.

[01:17:19] Sasquatch sunrise.

[01:17:19] Sasquatch sunrise to me, it went, it took us to places that, it, that I have not seen.

[01:17:27] Like I have not seen a movie like Sasquatch sunset ever.

[01:17:31] It was amazing.

[01:17:32] It, I ha I was thoroughly engaged in everything that was done and the script, even though they

[01:17:38] weren't saying anything was brilliant.

[01:17:42] Number three.

[01:17:43] And it's because he's the best James Bond that's ever lived is seeing Daniel Craig be queer

[01:17:51] for two solid hours is enough.

[01:17:53] And especially if you want to go on a Hiawaska trip where there's lots of gay sex, then watch

[01:17:58] queer queer is my number three.

[01:18:00] Number two.

[01:18:01] It has two names.

[01:18:03] One is Omen.

[01:18:04] The other is a Gure.

[01:18:06] This film is brilliant, rich and ha with cultural impacts and lessons from our past.

[01:18:11] It has so many layers of complexity and family dynamics and has you challenging your beliefs

[01:18:18] and what is owed to you from your past, present and future generations.

[01:18:22] I absolutely love this movie.

[01:18:24] I've been lucky enough to see it four times now in one year.

[01:18:28] And if I could see this a fit, I could watch this every day of my life and never tired of

[01:18:33] it.

[01:18:33] I know what your number one is.

[01:18:34] I know you do.

[01:18:35] What is it?

[01:18:36] Your number one, Jim is my favorite cake.

[01:18:39] That is absolutely my favorite movie of last year, Bryce.

[01:18:43] An aging widow who's not afraid to stick up for herself and say, what's right falls in

[01:18:50] love after 30 years.

[01:18:52] This made me smile.

[01:18:54] And I'm still smiling when I think of this film.

[01:18:57] I just, I didn't think that a movie with such a power.

[01:19:02] Well, I don't know what it is.

[01:19:03] It's been a lot over the last six years we've been doing this podcast.

[01:19:07] A lot of times strong female roles really resonate with me, especially if they're done really well.

[01:19:14] Right.

[01:19:14] And this one was just, she was brilliant, had the perfect ending, an ending that I thought

[01:19:21] couldn't be more perfect.

[01:19:23] And then they changed it to something I didn't expect.

[01:19:26] Then it was even better.

[01:19:27] And it was even better.

[01:19:28] This is an Iranian film.

[01:19:29] And I'm just like, you know what?

[01:19:31] Everybody in the world should see my favorite cake.

[01:19:34] Cause it's brilliant.

[01:19:36] All right.

[01:19:37] Good list.

[01:19:38] Yeah.

[01:19:39] I like that list.

[01:19:41] All right.

[01:19:42] So I got no runners up, although I will, I will preface it with, there was a lot of good

[01:19:46] film.

[01:19:46] And just, there was, this was one of those years where there was a lot of bad film.

[01:19:51] Yeah.

[01:19:51] There was a lot of tremendous film this year.

[01:19:53] I don't know.

[01:19:54] We'd have to go back and take a look, but I'm not sure that I, over the, the, the length

[01:19:59] of this podcast that I've ever given as many Mondos out as I have this year.

[01:20:03] You gave us all like candy this year.

[01:20:04] Nah, I wouldn't say it was, that's the thing.

[01:20:06] I wasn't giving them out like candy.

[01:20:07] Yeah, you were.

[01:20:08] Yeah, we got a lot of rages too.

[01:20:09] But there was, I also gave probably the most amount of rages that I have for in a year as

[01:20:14] well.

[01:20:14] So it was kind of a weird balance.

[01:20:16] So usually I'm meh heavy, but this, I think it was either.

[01:20:20] Cause you give meh, it normally gives mehs out like candy.

[01:20:22] That'll say, I used to.

[01:20:24] At any rate.

[01:20:26] No runners up.

[01:20:27] These are my test 10 best films of 2024.

[01:20:29] Number 10.

[01:20:32] In a violent nature.

[01:20:34] What?

[01:20:35] Were you copying my list, bitch?

[01:20:38] The slasher movie still has a pulse.

[01:20:42] Number nine.

[01:20:43] Number nine.

[01:20:44] Saturday night.

[01:20:45] Funny and tense throughout.

[01:20:46] Jason Reitman at his best.

[01:20:48] So we got him at his worst and at his best.

[01:20:50] That's right.

[01:20:51] There you go.

[01:20:51] It's a sandwich.

[01:20:53] Number eight.

[01:20:54] Anora.

[01:20:55] You will hate everyone in this film, but you will care deeply for them by the end.

[01:20:59] Yes, you will.

[01:21:00] That's totally true.

[01:21:01] Number seven.

[01:21:02] Queer.

[01:21:04] Daniel Craig gives and receives like never before.

[01:21:08] He totally does.

[01:21:10] Number six.

[01:21:12] Oh, can I just say for one thing?

[01:21:13] I have never seen a cock sucking scene as good as that.

[01:21:18] I'm just like, wowzer.

[01:21:20] This is James Bond taking it all in.

[01:21:24] Number six.

[01:21:26] Kneecap.

[01:21:27] A kinetic film about the preservation of native culture.

[01:21:30] In this case, the Irish language.

[01:21:33] Number five.

[01:21:34] And this one's a little bit of a curveball because when I went over my list or over on our website, this movie's not on there and I don't know why.

[01:21:43] What?

[01:21:44] But maybe I, maybe it's because I saw it not with you at SIF and.

[01:21:48] Oh, maybe you didn't tell me.

[01:21:49] You didn't talk about it.

[01:21:50] So anyways, number five.

[01:21:52] Memoir of a snail.

[01:21:54] Oh yeah, that's right.

[01:21:54] Marion Mack's director, Adam Elliott, brings us another animated masterpiece.

[01:21:59] You'll love this movie, Jim.

[01:22:00] It's so good.

[01:22:01] Number four.

[01:22:02] About dry grasses.

[01:22:04] Oh wow.

[01:22:05] Yeah.

[01:22:05] Turkish film filmed with dark humor and tragic characters.

[01:22:09] Man, this is a good movie.

[01:22:11] There's so much walking in this movie.

[01:22:12] There's a lot of walking too.

[01:22:14] So much walking.

[01:22:14] That opening scene was just winter and walking and walking.

[01:22:18] And if you thought walking through grass was good, you should see him walking in winter for like 15 minutes.

[01:22:23] No.

[01:22:24] Number three.

[01:22:26] This is probably a record.

[01:22:27] I got two animated films on my top 10.

[01:22:29] I'm sorry.

[01:22:30] The wild robot, dark humor, balanced with sentimentality.

[01:22:34] This was a perfect family film.

[01:22:36] Nice.

[01:22:36] And you're right there.

[01:22:38] It's, it's, it's worth mentioning.

[01:22:40] And it's, it's number three.

[01:22:41] I, I could watch this every day of my life.

[01:22:44] I just love this.

[01:22:45] It's the fantastic Mr. Fox for 2024.

[01:22:48] Number two, small things like these.

[01:22:51] Killian Murphy in a career defining role, a hard watch, but a must watch film.

[01:22:58] I was, I can tell you I was hard all the way through it.

[01:23:00] Definitely a hard watch.

[01:23:03] I was boned up for Killian Murphy and how awesome you guys.

[01:23:06] I have no idea what's going on right now.

[01:23:08] And number one.

[01:23:11] Is it my favorite cake?

[01:23:12] Of course it's my favorite cake.

[01:23:14] This is the greatest love story ever told.

[01:23:18] It is quite simply a Persian masterpiece.

[01:23:23] Oh my God.

[01:23:24] It's my favorite cake.

[01:23:26] Just do yourself a favor.

[01:23:28] Even if you don't watch foreign film, just seek this film out.

[01:23:31] Watch it.

[01:23:32] This will be your gateway to truly great international film.

[01:23:38] Please watch my favorite cake.

[01:23:40] It deserves to be seen by as many eyes as possible.

[01:23:43] Now I have a little story about this.

[01:23:45] So after we went and saw this, and I had him speaking to, one of my really good friends

[01:23:51] is Iranian.

[01:23:52] And we don't often talk a lot about film, but after we saw this at the festival, I forgot

[01:23:58] to talk to him about this film in particular.

[01:24:02] So it wasn't until, I want to say like November, like mid November.

[01:24:07] And I bumped into him and I was like, hey, how you doing?

[01:24:09] And blah, blah, blah.

[01:24:10] And I said, oh my God, I've got to tell you about this, this film that I seen.

[01:24:14] And I started telling you about it.

[01:24:15] He says, oh yeah, my favorite cake.

[01:24:16] I've already seen it.

[01:24:18] And I was like, what?

[01:24:19] How did you see this?

[01:24:20] Oh, I get the, I guess it's streaming on, I guess, Al Jazeera TV or whatever it is.

[01:24:26] So we got it in the film festival in September, end of September.

[01:24:30] And he's already streamed it from there.

[01:24:33] He's like, yeah, I really love that movie.

[01:24:35] I'm like, yeah, you did.

[01:24:36] So good, man.

[01:24:39] That is it.

[01:24:42] Yeah.

[01:24:42] That's the winner.

[01:24:44] Winners.

[01:24:45] Yes, indeed.

[01:24:46] All right.

[01:24:46] Do we have special music for our awards this year?

[01:24:49] No.

[01:24:49] Would you want to start the music over?

[01:24:51] Let's do a pause here and take a deep breath.

[01:24:58] All right.

[01:24:59] So the moment, probably everyone's been waiting for, everybody's waiting for this.

[01:25:05] You get more excited about this than me.

[01:25:07] Well, here's the thing.

[01:25:08] We are not big fans.

[01:25:10] Because you hate award shows.

[01:25:12] I absolutely hate award shows.

[01:25:13] You think there should be one award given every year for whatever it is and that's it.

[01:25:17] That's right.

[01:25:18] There should only be one award.

[01:25:19] Five minutes there.

[01:25:20] There's way too many awards.

[01:25:21] We've given out three, Jim.

[01:25:23] Yeah, but that's individually.

[01:25:24] If we had to come.

[01:25:25] You know what?

[01:25:26] I bet you if we racked our brain.

[01:25:28] You probably wouldn't agree.

[01:25:28] Well, but there is.

[01:25:30] I think there was one movie that made all top of our maybe.

[01:25:34] I guarantee that you'll agree with mine, Jim.

[01:25:36] You had.

[01:25:37] Yeah.

[01:25:38] Okay.

[01:25:38] So maybe you'll agree with mine too.

[01:25:40] Who knows?

[01:25:41] All right.

[01:25:41] Okay.

[01:25:42] So my film rage award for this year is going to a documentary.

[01:25:51] That's the category?

[01:25:52] Going to a documentary?

[01:25:54] Going to a documentary?

[01:25:55] Yeah.

[01:25:55] It was.

[01:25:56] The word goes to me for going to this movie.

[01:25:58] Okay.

[01:25:59] Okay.

[01:26:00] So I'm not going to tell you what the name it is.

[01:26:02] Uh huh.

[01:26:02] You're going to guess it pretty quickly.

[01:26:04] Uh huh.

[01:26:05] Now, people may be asking yourself, how could, how could you actually be giving this as your

[01:26:10] film rage award when that wasn't your favorite movie?

[01:26:13] Just because it wasn't my favorite movie.

[01:26:15] It doesn't mean that this didn't change boundaries about how a certain genre of film is made.

[01:26:22] So for creating the most unique and original documentary that has ever been created, you may ask yourself again, why this was not my number one?

[01:26:32] It's because it wasn't my favorite movie.

[01:26:35] In fact, I like a lot of narrative films as you've already heard, but it is still the most creative and original doc that has ever been done.

[01:26:45] And for this reason alone, it gets my film rage award.

[01:26:49] And Bryce, can you guess what it is?

[01:26:51] It's not brick by brick.

[01:26:53] No, it's grand theft.

[01:26:56] Oh, grand theft.

[01:26:57] The Hamlet.

[01:26:57] The fat.

[01:26:58] That was also an original.

[01:26:59] It was pretty original, but this one was something I never thought that could be humanly possible and to have as much joy as I had watching this.

[01:27:08] And I'm guessing you never actually played the games.

[01:27:11] No, I've never played the games.

[01:27:12] Yeah.

[01:27:13] But yeah, grand theft.

[01:27:14] Hamlet is one of those movies where it's like, sorry, they made a movie about what?

[01:27:17] Yeah.

[01:27:18] And then you're like, wow, I'm sure glad they made a movie about that.

[01:27:22] Yeah, grand theft auto without the killing.

[01:27:24] No, no, there's lots of killing.

[01:27:25] There's lots of killing.

[01:27:27] I thought it was about doing Hamlet.

[01:27:28] Half the time.

[01:27:28] Yeah, they try to, but they're doing it in grand theft auto, man.

[01:27:32] They're doing it in grand theft auto.

[01:27:34] They're killing people at the same time?

[01:27:35] Yeah.

[01:27:35] You know what?

[01:27:36] I hope they have a companion on this that comes out and we actually get to see the actual performance.

[01:27:41] That would also be like the B side of this.

[01:27:44] They showed some of it.

[01:27:45] Yeah, I know.

[01:27:46] But I want to see the whole thing.

[01:27:47] I want to buy the box set of this because again, do yourself a favor, especially if

[01:27:52] you're a gamer and you've, you've played grand theft auto.

[01:27:55] It's amazing.

[01:27:56] You, you will have to see how they did this.

[01:27:59] It's, it's absolutely brilliant.

[01:28:01] I know it didn't make like, I still enjoyed the other movies more than this, but this is

[01:28:05] a, this is a genre band for documentaries.

[01:28:10] All right.

[01:28:11] So my film rage award is for the best on screen couple for 2024 and any other year for that matter.

[01:28:22] Maheen and Faramars played by Lily Farhadpur and Ismail Marabi in my favorite cake.

[01:28:32] This is the most fantastic couple that's ever been on screen in the history of film and maybe will

[01:28:41] ever be.

[01:28:42] Yep.

[01:28:42] I adore them.

[01:28:44] So it's the best on screen couple couple best on screen couple for 2024, 2024 and maybe

[01:28:53] ever and any other year.

[01:28:59] Well, unlike you two, I actually do like the award shows.

[01:29:02] So I'm going to go Hollywood.

[01:29:04] Nice.

[01:29:05] Mine is either for best box office star or best actor, whichever one you want to do.

[01:29:12] It's gotta be Timothee Chalamet.

[01:29:16] Yeah.

[01:29:17] With a trifecta of box office performances.

[01:29:22] That's only because Ben Affleck didn't have a movie last year.

[01:29:24] Oh, whatever.

[01:29:25] Uh, that's a hundred percent.

[01:29:27] Uh, in January I saw Wonka.

[01:29:30] You did.

[01:29:30] Then came out Dune part two.

[01:29:33] Yes.

[01:29:34] Which he was undoubtedly the star of the movie because he had all the lines.

[01:29:38] Unlike the first one where he was just a character.

[01:29:40] All the lines.

[01:29:41] And then of course wrapping it up with a complete unknown where he sang, as you said, better than

[01:29:46] Bob Dylan.

[01:29:47] So yeah.

[01:29:48] He had like the best year of anybody.

[01:29:50] So yeah.

[01:29:51] Yeah.

[01:29:52] He had a good year.

[01:29:53] That was a, that was a good one.

[01:29:54] I guess he bookended the year good.

[01:29:56] Yeah.

[01:29:57] That thing in the middle was awful.

[01:29:58] He was okay.

[01:29:58] The Dune 2, the best science fiction movie of last year.

[01:30:02] The unnecessary piece of garbage that never should have been made.

[01:30:06] Yes.

[01:30:06] Oh, that, you mean the one you gave a mad to?

[01:30:08] You mean part two of three or four?

[01:30:10] That's right.

[01:30:11] Did I give it a mad?

[01:30:12] I don't even remember.

[01:30:13] You did.

[01:30:14] I don't think I did.

[01:30:15] I don't know.

[01:30:15] You did.

[01:30:16] I remember hating it.

[01:30:19] You have a selective memory.

[01:30:20] It's hating you.

[01:30:21] All right.

[01:30:22] So we, um, we're not going to have our Rage or Dare today just because we've already

[01:30:28] used up an app.

[01:30:29] Why not?

[01:30:29] Because I don't have a movie.

[01:30:31] Yeah, you do.

[01:30:32] But I'm going to pull a movie now.

[01:30:34] Oh, okay.

[01:30:34] I don't have a movie to talk about because I've been waiting.

[01:30:37] I thought you were saying we're skipping the whole thing.

[01:30:38] No, no, we're not.

[01:30:39] I actually physically have to pull it.

[01:30:41] So Bryce, Bryce supposedly has done his homework.

[01:30:45] Did he though?

[01:30:45] And he made a, he filled his bag, which I don't see any bags around.

[01:30:50] The bags are right where they always are in the ice cream bucket there.

[01:30:53] My bucket of rage.

[01:30:55] Oh, is there, oh, there's Jim.

[01:30:57] Okay.

[01:30:58] This is Bryce's dare bag.

[01:31:01] Yes, sir.

[01:31:02] There's a couple in there.

[01:31:03] There's quite a few in there.

[01:31:05] There's enough to get me through the next year and a half.

[01:31:07] I think.

[01:31:07] So this, we've been only waiting for this for six months.

[01:31:13] Yeah.

[01:31:14] It only took six months to do pick the movie, whatever.

[01:31:19] You're always dwelling on the past, Jim.

[01:31:21] Let's look to the future.

[01:31:23] All right.

[01:31:24] I want to see.

[01:31:25] I want to see.

[01:31:26] Actually, you know what I'd like to see is if they do Sonic the Hedgehog

[01:31:29] four inside Sonic the Hedgehog, the game.

[01:31:32] By the way, I've confirmed that you will be able to watch all of these.

[01:31:36] Oh, perfect.

[01:31:37] Mm-hmm.

[01:31:37] That was a good review on your part.

[01:31:39] Mm-hmm.

[01:31:40] All right.

[01:31:41] I will be watching for next week the movie Six Pack from 1982.

[01:31:47] Kenny Rogers, baby.

[01:31:49] Kenny Rogers?

[01:31:49] I love that movie.

[01:31:50] Are you kidding me?

[01:31:51] I love Kenny Rogers.

[01:31:52] It was awesome.

[01:31:53] Kenny Rogers is a stock car racer.

[01:31:55] And he's got a bunch of kids as his crew.

[01:31:57] It's the best movie ever.

[01:32:01] That's exactly what it is, Jim.

[01:32:03] It's better than the gambler.

[01:32:06] Hey, Jim, it's better than the gambler.

[01:32:10] I've also seen that, unfortunately.

[01:32:13] So, well, they made about four or five of those, too.

[01:32:15] Is there a-

[01:32:16] You asked for it, Jim.

[01:32:18] You are going to love my bag this year.

[01:32:20] Six Pack.

[01:32:20] Well, invite me over.

[01:32:21] I want to see that.

[01:32:22] All right.

[01:32:22] Mary, you and I will watch it together.

[01:32:25] Oh, my God.

[01:32:26] The torture we have to endure.

[01:32:28] Are we finally done?

[01:32:29] Yeah, we are done.

[01:32:31] Whoa!

[01:32:32] Thanks, Rogers, for listening.
