I dive into the underrated Canadian Biker Gangster Drama THE LAST CHAPTER starring Michael Ironside (Total Recall) and Roy Dupuis (La Femme Nikita):
I also get to play some clips from the show and comment on what it did different from all the other SOPRANOS/SONS OF ANARCHY type outings!

In their world, they were families until business got in the way of brotherhood. You go with the flow and you drown. We are now part of an organization coast to coast.
[00:00:29] Only one cop understands their power. Any decisions you make behind your desk will find their way onto the streets. Chapter by chapter. Every time somebody gets hit, they look at me. The stakes get higher. I don't want this in my life anymore. I did everything I could to keep to peace. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa! You did dick all. Life gets cheaper. I lost my life. I don't really give a shit if I live or die. Two guys were here to kill you. I got over a hundred people who want me dead. Why should two more bother me?
[00:00:58] I think we have a very strong case. It's not airtight. There's nothing more dangerous than a man with nothing to lose. You were correct. You didn't shoot me when you had the chance, Bob. The last chapter available now.
[00:02:09] If I see Durrell or any of his ass kissers, they're about the Sixers. I don't care about the biggest biker corporation in Canada or in the world. I'll kill all of one by one. I'd rather die on my feet. Okay, you think about it. Lo and behold, we're talking gangster movies once again. That's right.
[00:02:37] We're going in a deep, deep cut though. We're talking about the last chapter. So, long story short, just a beyond criminally underrated Canadian miniseries that was also translated into French Canadian. For that market. For that market. I don't know where it aired in the States, but it's finally been readily available through DVD in recent years.
[00:03:05] And basically they were like six episodes each. It was kind of a word of mouth thing. It didn't take off right away. Like they split up into like two seasons. Like one was in 2002 and then the following year in 0-3. And it starred Roy DuPoess, who many might know from the La Femme Nikita TV show, as well as other Canadian film movies like Screamers with Peter Weller.
[00:03:35] Sci-fi apocalyptic film. And I saw a lot of people, you know, instantly comparing it to Sopranos. But you know, the main reason most of us geeks wanted to check it out was it was just Michael Ironside as basically a Sopranos kind of lead. Russ, Sixers are coming.
[00:04:05] Ten new chapters. You went about. Get real, Bob. The minute you put on the triple Sixers patch, it's going to be hell. A lot of people are going to die. Not if I do it right. It's not the right way to do it and you know it. Check it out. Sergeant Bill. A lot of people. What's up? Came to watch your sister dance.
[00:04:34] My buddy there is under the impression. Couple of you guys are packing. You know how to behave. So unless somebody does something stupid, we're not going to spoil your evening. So, Bob, finally going to get it. Chapter. Brings me the same old shit.
[00:05:03] You must know things we don't, Bill. One day we'll sit down together. I'll tell you how much I know. You'll be surprised. Everything okay, Mr. Gannett? Mr. Gannett? Wow. I didn't know you had a son on the forest, Bill. Can you help pass your bedtime? Let's get his looks from his mother. He's going to get the strap.
[00:05:33] Respect, Bob. Don't you ever insult one of my men again. That shit. You do what you want, Bill. It's just so awesome. It's just so awesome just seeing, you know, now it's kind of gotten a little more of a nod. You can find it on Tubi, believe it or not.
[00:06:00] Because Sons of Anarchy made biker gangs more interesting. But I like how in the second half it becomes more of a legal thriller. And it reminded me even more of stuff like The Shield where you're not glamorizing these people, but you're also just getting an idea of how they just deny this day in and out. And they can't shut that hostile part of their persona off. Here's to stealing, cheating and lying.
[00:06:30] Stealing time with good friends. Cheating death and lying with the one you love. Oh, that's very touching, Bob. Look at the poet talking. No, no, it's good. Salud. So, Joanne, Zip was telling us that you had quite an adventure in Brazil. You mean that frigging snake? It was like this. Oh, yeah, come on. I don't know.
[00:06:58] We're lounging on the beach and there's snakes coming to check me out. And all this guy of mine says is, dear, maybe you should move. She goes, honey, leave me alone. Bob would have taken his video camera out, huh? You're damn right. I would have got that sucker on tape. Anyway, this monster slithers right over my leg. And I said, leave me alone. And he goes, I'm like over here, hi. Believe me, I screamed.
[00:07:28] But that snake took off like it had legs. Scared shitless. I stuck to the pool. I would have done the same thing. It was so big. I thought we took holidays to get away from snakes, you know? Yeah. You hungry, Bob? Yeah, I could eat something. Mm-hmm. Why don't you go to that little Italian place, pick up some spaghetti or something? Why can't we just order it? They don't deliver. Hey.
[00:07:58] Lips. It was apparently inspired by the Quebec Biker War that raged on from 94 to 02. So, man, coming up on the hills of it literally just as it's stopping. Hey, Paul, how you doing? Well, good, Paul. That didn't take long. Best Italian in town, and the place was dead. Usually it's so crowded.
[00:08:27] Yeah, well today it's definitely dead. Bring out the food, Bob. Paul's hungry. Well, if Paul wants to eat, he's gonna have to do a little dance. Just for me. Yeah, apparently they filmed it in both French and English to avoid the difficulties of having to dub it. And so kudos to the actress for being able to translate such a thing in both. So it doesn't look good, Bob.
[00:09:10] Passports and visas. We're going to Brazil! Oh, son of a... Yes! Yes! Yes! Marina Orsini, who played the wife of Ironside, won a Gemini award for her portrayal of that. You know, even minor characters in this really did very well. Like, the agents weren't just the hotshot type that you usually see portrayed.
[00:09:38] And yeah, I liked how Ironside keeps his whole profession very secretive. His biker guys, when they come by his house or leave him presents. And where are you going, guys? I'm going to show them the wand. What's this? Promissary note, Pable over the counter in the Bahamas. Effective as of...
[00:10:08] Hey, if you guys have business. No, no, man. I want you to pay witness to this. Mr. Glen O'Sullivan just sold me his territory. What? No scratching me to retire and paint full time? No. No second thoughts. I mean, they really want you in there. No. Forget about it. You are making a big mistake. Here he goes again. No, not rot.
[00:10:36] I really want him to be a part of it. We can use him. It's real. It's just so funny how they just are like, oh, you just don't understand me.
[00:11:03] And Ironside is basically just in the whole... It's interesting seeing him having to portray just a sorry ass dad who's trying to do good things, but each time he tries doing something good, like he's just never available for his kids. And when he tries to give them a gift, it's not something that connects or that is even given to his kid, even though he, you know, attempts to give it to him. You know, there's always just some interruption or just some utter sorry thing.
[00:11:31] And it aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation channel. But yeah, I mean, I just like how they established that there was a friendship prior to Puss's character. Apparently, it was so convincing that with the fictional triple Sixers gang that the actual Hells Angel Motorcycle Club wanted to file an injunction to prevent broadcasting the show. So that's when you know you've done something right.
[00:11:59] It's your last chance. You in or you out? I'll get you guys. Bob, you asked me to join a goddamn army. Do this, do that, meet here, run here, another run there. Working with a bunch of wannabes. Forget it, man. I'm talking business. Money. A lot of money. We don't need them for that Bob and you know it.
[00:12:29] I know that I'm thinking about our future. Now either you go with the flow or you drown. Man, I know we're from the same chapter and all, but I gotta tell you this. There are three things in my life I can do without. Oysters, hypocrites, and the goddamn Sixers. Bobby's right. You don't need them. It's already done.
[00:12:59] I'd just rather do it with you guys. The day I put on a Sixers patch, man, that's it, that's all, you know? I'll have the cops on me 24-7. They can be their friends without getting married. Hey, don't look at me, asshole. Hey, I'm still trying to figure out why you're here.
[00:13:29] There's no goddamn way I'd call you, brother.
[00:14:30] Again, it didn't glamorize them and it also just left a lot of food for thought. So again, if you want one of these other edgy crime shows, one of the dick wolf or Steven Bochco shows, just any other Sopranos type show, you're really gonna dig this. You can also watch it for free on Amazon or buy it. That works too. Again, I applaud them for remastering the show. There wasn't too much in the way of the content that was...
[00:14:58] I guess the violence was a little intense, but it would be a light heart. It wasn't something that was, again, concerned with being edgy to where it relied on content being over the top. It was just a very well thought out psychological drama with... I mean, it's labeled under action or thriller, but it's more just because it's an inevitable, just exciting show, but... Wendy, I want to thank you for everything you've done for us and the kids.
[00:15:27] It's greatly appreciated. I want you to leave now. Sorry? What's with you? I want her out of here now. What the hell? You heard me.
[00:16:10] Give us a call when you're over it. Exactly. Talk to you tomorrow, Wendy. You're not gonna talk to her tomorrow, next week, never. What the hell's the matter with you? Wendy and Ross throughout our life. You had a fight with Ross, that's between you and him, okay? And you and Wendy.
[00:16:42] I just loved how, you know, it left all this food for thought. It wasn't, you know, I have zero interest in biking or motorcycles. So again, it also wasn't about car chases or anything. It was about just showing how these guys will always be rebels. They know no other form of life. And yeah, it just felt like you were peeking into it.
[00:17:02] And I know the docudrama style is overused, but they did it in a way where you actually felt like you were leaning in on these private conversations without feeling like they were just jumping on a bandwagon or just a random hype train. Like that was the premise. That was where they wanted to go with it. That's where they went. It landed on all fours. It was good and totally recommended. So you know where to seek it out now and I can't recommend it more, especially to Ironside fans. Don't worry, he'll come to his senses.
[00:17:33] That's not personal, I know that. I really don't know what's got into him. They had a fight about the Sixers. Hey, wait a second. I'm back. Yeah. Next time he takes you out for dinner, take your own car, eh? Let him take his. Oh, for God's sake, Wendy. You'll see one day some little punk will go for the president of the Sixers. The president of the Sixers? What are you talking about? Jesus, come on, you don't even know.
[00:18:04] Sixers are opening ten new chapters in Ontario. Bob and Zip are running the show. Hello? Karen? Karen? Yeah, I gotta go. You'll return after these messages.
