[00:00:13] Welcome to Dreas Point of View. I am your hostess, Drea, and this is Season 12. Yes, I am back. I am finally back from my extended hiatus. I came back about a month after I expected things happen. Life happens. A lot has been going on in the world, and it was just a lot to take in. I was overwhelmed, overstimulated, wasn't really in a talking mood.
[00:00:43] But I still had a lot to say, which is why I returned. So just know that it is okay to take a break as long as you need. And if you choose to come back, fine. I definitely was coming back because, like I said in the past, I didn't want this to be another project that I started and didn't complete. And if you have an LLC, you have to pay for your podcast. So since I paid a hefty chunk for it, I may as well continue with it.
[00:01:11] So, here I am. And I appreciate those of you who continue to listen to my previous episodes. You can do so at thedreaspointofview.com, as well as subscribe to my free weekly newsletter. And I see I've gotten some new subscribers. I appreciate that. Thank you so much. Comes out every Saturday. It's only about a one or two minute read. And you can sign up at dreaspointofview.substack.com.
[00:01:34] I wanted to talk about a subject that came out shortly after I went on break. And I started to come back early and talk about it. And I said, no, it's always current. And that's about checking in with people. Checking in, especially if you know that they are of a certain age and have health issues.
[00:02:00] The late actor Gene Hackman and his wife and his dog were found deceased on their property over a week after the fact. And there was so much talk about that. Most people talked about, well, where were the kids? And you figured these were adults as well. I'm not sure where location wise, if they were close to him or not, but I know they were on the estranged side.
[00:02:27] Someone said that they were close to him, but I mean, how close can you be not to talk to someone for over a week? And they lived far away from people. He was his caretaker, but I'm sure she had her share of health issues as well. And to be found, it's one thing to be found and you live alone, but to have someone and both of you go out like that, it's just even more tragic.
[00:02:54] And I'm thinking, it made me think, okay, how often, because I know I do my check-ins, but how often people check on me, knowing that I don't live near anyone, knowing that I travel, knowing my situation. And I have a few close-knit people, but on the average, how often do we check in on one another? We're always online. Okay, so that's not an excuse. We're always, I see people all the time.
[00:03:17] We are always online on our phones, but yet sending a DM or a text, because I know people don't really call anyone anymore. How hard is that to do? I get that there are parents who aren't close to their children, because apparently he wound up not leaving them anything. So I'm not going to, you know, blame whose fault that was, but, you know, there were grandkids. I'm sure there were other family members or just friends. All these actors coming out of the woodwork talking about what great of a person he was.
[00:03:46] But, I mean, did you keep in touch with them? You know, so I think we can all do better in that department and keep in touch with our friends and family. Even try to do a wellness check. I mean, if you don't want to go see about them, send a text, ask someone else how they're doing, and someone send someone out to these people, because that is just a tragic way to go.
[00:04:09] So it's very heartbreaking to know that no one is really keeping in touch with you. And I had that conversation with an older woman, because she was saying how she lives her life. And she mainly keeps in touch with her. Her and her sister are best friends, and she has one of her close friends as well. She's talking to one of them at least once a day.
[00:04:35] So I think that's important to keep the communication lines open to your tight-knit people. I wanted to transition to positive news story of the day. And that is a story that I can relate to. And that's LeBron James. He came out with a doll that is a spitting image of him.
[00:05:01] He was the first athlete to join the Ken Basseter program, and he's the tallest Ken doll. And April 14th is when it went on sale, and I was determined to get my doll, $75. And I did not get it on 14th, because they sold out shortly after I got online. They were sold at Target, Walmart, and other places, Mattel. But yeah, I was still determined to get that doll.
[00:05:31] I wanted it. I was like, I got to have it. Not only because I love LeBron James, I collect dolls, and it would have been like a work-versary gift. So I had to wait a few days, but I did eventually get it from a reseller. I didn't pay $75, but it's money well spent. This doll is amazing. It's a letterman's jacket with his shirt with his foundation on it. It's got the Beats headsets. It has Nike sneakers.
[00:06:00] It has his hat. It's a beautiful doll. Very well made, as if you could see LeBron James coming out with something, anything less than stellar. It's a good investment. I won't be reselling mine. I will definitely be holding it as a collector's item. I suggest looking into it for yourself, if not a kid in your life. Kudos to LeBron James. Make sure that you are following me on the socials. I'm at Drea's Point of View pretty much everywhere.
