[00:00:10] How do you run a living?
[00:00:11] I'm a psychic detective, sir.
[00:00:13] I was asking a serious question.
[00:00:15] Some say Sean Spencer is a phony.
[00:00:18] That's not possible.
[00:00:19] Is he really legit?
[00:00:20] Yeah, of course. I'm here to see my client.
[00:00:23] Just how good is he?
[00:00:25] I'm filthy good.
[00:00:26] So good it's stupid.
[00:00:27] His abilities?
[00:00:30] Perceptive.
[00:00:30] Thank you.
[00:00:31] It's very flattering.
[00:00:32] His methods?
[00:00:33] Here, here, here.
[00:00:35] Wee!
[00:00:36] Ah!
[00:00:37] Oops.
[00:00:38] Disturbing.
[00:00:39] Agreed.
[00:00:40] Now what about a sidekick?
[00:00:42] No.
[00:00:42] Yes.
[00:00:43] No.
[00:00:43] Yes.
[00:00:43] I'm a psychic detective. He just has a magic eight ball head.
[00:00:46] That's baloney.
[00:00:47] You're baloney.
[00:00:48] This deviant duo?
[00:00:49] Come on!
[00:00:50] Come on!
[00:00:51] Is serious about success.
[00:00:56] Right?
[00:00:57] No.
[00:00:58] No.
[00:00:58] Not really.
[00:00:59] No.
[00:00:59] Get caught up in Psych.
[00:01:02] Saturdays, 9, 8 central.
[00:01:04] Eye on television.
[00:01:06] Positively entertaining.
[00:01:07] I was fighting with introducing this to different crowds.
[00:01:55] It's hard to tell if they like it until you're kind of halfway through it.
[00:01:58] Because some of them are kind of, heh, heh.
[00:02:00] And others are bellyaching laughs.
[00:02:02] And not every episode is the same way.
[00:02:04] So you never know what you're in for.
[00:02:06] True.
[00:02:07] Yep.
[00:02:07] That's the episode that I love.
[00:02:09] But you found boring and not too amusing.
[00:02:12] You know, it's hard to read the room.
[00:02:14] It's like watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater with a group of people.
[00:02:18] And just listening to the laughter move through the room.
[00:02:20] Of which jokes hit.
[00:02:22] Yeah.
[00:02:23] I think it is very much an MST3K kind of show.
[00:02:27] Whereas, like, even if you don't get the reference, you get the gist of what they're talking about.
[00:02:31] About a infamous movie or a scandal-ridden celebrity that they just ruined.
[00:02:38] And I think, and so I, originally when I was watching this, because I was watching it as it aired.
[00:02:44] I was a kid watching it.
[00:02:46] Oh, nice.
[00:02:47] And so, oh, like a few years ago, I went back and re-watched the whole series.
[00:02:53] And it was nice, like, because, like, now as an adult, I get all the adult jokes that are in it.
[00:02:59] There you go.
[00:03:00] References.
[00:03:01] I do wonder how much of the 80s, the hyper-referential 80s shit, it, like, translates to anyone who, you know, wasn't born in the 70s.
[00:03:11] I think some of them get it, but there's definitely going to be some where you're like, okay, you were before VCRs and cassettes.
[00:03:19] The humor is definitely tailor-made for a Gen X, you know, mind frame.
[00:03:24] Absolutely.
[00:03:25] Yes.
[00:03:26] Especially when they try to get every other person from American Pie or the Breakfast Club.
[00:03:30] And you're like, okay.
[00:03:31] I had to explain to my wife who Kurt Smith was.
[00:03:34] Oh, yeah.
[00:03:39] Oh, my goodness.
[00:03:40] Oh, my goodness.
[00:03:40] Oh, so we have a wonderful all-star panel tonight.
[00:03:44] We got Josh Stugan back on the show.
[00:03:47] Yes.
[00:03:47] Thanks.
[00:03:48] Thanks for having me.
[00:03:49] He wishes he was a detective, but no, he's just good at...
[00:03:52] I do wish I was a detective, actually.
[00:03:54] Okay, awesome.
[00:03:55] You're better.
[00:03:56] Dead fucking serious.
[00:03:58] I wish I was a detective.
[00:04:00] P.I., not a...
[00:04:01] I don't want to be a cop.
[00:04:03] Either way, Dario Argento can put you in one of his gory mysteries.
[00:04:06] Yeah.
[00:04:08] Before he hits it.
[00:04:09] Travis Crawford, the film buff himself, is back with a vengeance.
[00:04:13] Hello.
[00:04:14] Hello.
[00:04:15] Back from Music Rewind, Stephen Epley.
[00:04:18] Happy to be here.
[00:04:19] We're going to sing plenty of tunes for you here.
[00:04:20] Don't worry.
[00:04:21] Making his debut, Smash Trivia John.
[00:04:25] Hello.
[00:04:26] Hello.
[00:04:28] Oh, man.
[00:04:29] How is life treating you?
[00:04:32] Doing fine?
[00:04:34] All right.
[00:04:35] Gamma Analysis podcast for those who want to know.
[00:04:38] And, babe, five from fans.
[00:04:40] Jamie Ray.
[00:04:41] That's what she said.
[00:04:45] I've heard it both ways.
[00:04:46] There's plenty of those jokes on the show.
[00:04:49] I used to do that.
[00:04:50] I'm your host, Sully, and I hope I am not a body in the morgue at the end of this episode.
[00:04:55] But Woody would take care of you.
[00:04:57] Yes.
[00:04:58] And my soul would be creeped out for life.
[00:05:02] Yeah.
[00:05:03] Yeah.
[00:05:04] Went from Ghostbusters 2 to this.
[00:05:06] We're doing a mega episode.
[00:05:09] Just in time for the holidays, we are talking about what psychos we are.
[00:05:14] Don't worry.
[00:05:15] That's the fanboys who happens to be fans of USA Network Psych.
[00:05:19] This is another one that is just kind of like The Office.
[00:05:23] Everyone has seen it in some capacity, but everyone kind of forgets how they kind of got into it.
[00:05:30] It's just, it's always been around since 06.
[00:05:33] People have seen it just spontaneously versus binged it.
[00:05:38] It's got something for everybody.
[00:05:39] But hopefully we can try and kind of establish its place in pop culture.
[00:05:43] I've been loving how they've been keeping it alive with the podcast that Jules and Lassie hosts.
[00:05:49] But for those who don't know, Gus and Sean are two private eyes who may or may not be good at what they do.
[00:05:56] Watch the show and find out.
[00:05:58] We got Lassie and Jules who aren't so keen on their invaluable skills.
[00:06:05] And then we got Lieutenant Karen and Sean's dad, Henry, ex-cop.
[00:06:12] And Woody, the coroner.
[00:06:14] So I'll circle around, Josh.
[00:06:16] It's been a minute.
[00:06:17] How would you recommend people encounter this show?
[00:06:22] I mean, I think you're probably best served by picking a random episode, you know, four or five seasons in maybe.
[00:06:32] Yes.
[00:06:33] As your gateway rather than...
[00:06:36] On the top.
[00:06:37] Yeah, rather than starting at the top.
[00:06:39] It's not that season one doesn't work.
[00:06:41] It's just...
[00:06:42] They weren't there yet.
[00:06:43] Even...
[00:06:44] Yeah.
[00:06:44] And I think...
[00:06:45] Even the Sean actor admitted that himself.
[00:06:47] He's like, we were there, but not quite.
[00:06:49] But we were comfortable.
[00:06:50] So that worked.
[00:06:52] But yeah, I think you're best served by...
[00:06:55] Sort of not dissimilarly from...
[00:06:58] If you're trying to get into SVU, I think you would do the same thing where you pick a fucking random episode.
[00:07:04] I mean, of the first 12 seasons.
[00:07:06] Seasons 2 through 12.
[00:07:07] But if you're doing SVU, you'd want someone to watch like a Neil Bear season episode.
[00:07:16] To see what the show is possible...
[00:07:18] Or the show can capable...
[00:07:20] Is capable of being.
[00:07:21] But...
[00:07:21] Season 8, they had a wonderful honor of reference where they're like, bad guy starts to run.
[00:07:26] He's like, oh, is this an SVU episode?
[00:07:30] Just ran.
[00:07:32] We just watched one where Liv was like winded and complaining about being old.
[00:07:39] Now she needs these two to just make a cameo on there.
[00:07:42] Yeah.
[00:07:43] So Jamie, you've been going through various sitcoms with your daughter.
[00:07:47] She's a great wingman.
[00:07:49] Thank you.
[00:07:50] I love how you guys tease each other with trivia.
[00:07:52] And it's like, how do you know this much?
[00:07:55] So John, the Gamma Analysis Chief in Command.
[00:07:58] How did you get into the Sean and Gus adventures?
[00:08:02] I don't know exactly what actually started getting us to watch it.
[00:08:06] But I watched the show as it aired week to week with my family as a kid.
[00:08:13] And I just absolutely grew and loved the show.
[00:08:16] Lovely.
[00:08:17] Yeah, my sister definitely got us into this.
[00:08:19] Like, I would see ads for it where they would do little bumpers where it made it look like
[00:08:23] they and Adrian Monk from the show Monk were talking to each other.
[00:08:27] But I think it wasn't until my sister was like, I hear this really funny.
[00:08:31] Some kids in theater class recommend this.
[00:08:32] And sure enough, if Bones or one of the CSIs isn't on, that was on.
[00:08:39] And it's just like, how did they even construct such a wacky mystery?
[00:08:44] And so Travis, how would you recommend people get into this comedic mystery show?
[00:08:50] I mean, I'm kind of the same mindset of like, just pick an episode from sort of somewhere in the middle.
[00:08:57] Start there.
[00:08:58] Unless you're like me and you're crazy and you just will watch a show start to finish.
[00:09:02] Like, I've watched the entirety of this series at least three times front to back.
[00:09:06] Oh, lovely.
[00:09:08] And watched all the movies.
[00:09:09] I grew up huge into murder mysteries.
[00:09:12] Like, I've said this on a few different shows before.
[00:09:15] If my house were to catch fire, the only things that I would make sure got out of this house would be the dog that's snoring behind me right now.
[00:09:22] And I have a copy of the complete works of Sherlock Holmes from Arthur Conan Doyle that was given to me as a kid published in like 1928 or 32 or something like that.
[00:09:34] And I would make sure that book got out.
[00:09:35] And that's it.
[00:09:36] Like, I grew up reading those.
[00:09:38] So I was just predisposed to love and murder mysteries.
[00:09:41] And this was like, take that and also make it funny.
[00:09:45] Totally.
[00:09:46] And use that formula.
[00:09:47] And so, yeah, like just anywhere.
[00:09:49] I mean, you can pretty much pick just about anything and you're probably going to enjoy it.
[00:09:54] Have any of you ever been tempted to get any of the DVD packs where apparently they have their own MST3K kind of commentary over it?
[00:10:01] Which is still kind of meta comedy show and they're making fun of themselves.
[00:10:05] Has anyone read any of the books?
[00:10:07] Wait.
[00:10:09] I have not.
[00:10:10] But I'm going to be looking for it.
[00:10:12] Yeah.
[00:10:13] That's awesome.
[00:10:14] I knew there were monk books.
[00:10:16] I didn't know there were psych books.
[00:10:18] I mean, I got books for Homeland in the unit.
[00:10:21] I had no freaking clue that there was.
[00:10:24] There were psych books.
[00:10:26] Yep.
[00:10:28] For everyone or just 13 and above or?
[00:10:32] I mean, it's very much the same tone of the show.
[00:10:35] So just 10.
[00:10:37] Just 10 and up.
[00:10:38] Yeah.
[00:10:39] Yeah.
[00:10:42] Man.
[00:10:43] So, Stephen, where do you recommend binging the show?
[00:10:47] You know, it's on Peacock.
[00:10:48] It's on Prime.
[00:10:49] I've been watching it on Peacock off and on.
[00:10:53] But I came to the show a little weird because I didn't know about it.
[00:10:57] I was overseas for the late 2000s.
[00:10:59] I didn't know the show existed.
[00:11:00] But yeah, Gus was a good segue because he's supposed to be the straight man.
[00:11:04] But yet he's got a weird upbringing as well.
[00:11:07] Yeah.
[00:11:07] And anytime he dies down to them.
[00:11:09] Yeah.
[00:11:10] His dad keeps changing.
[00:11:11] It's weird.
[00:11:12] Yes.
[00:11:13] And there's that Scooby-Doo kind of logic where they just, they love to yell and lose their shit.
[00:11:18] Yeah.
[00:11:19] Come on, son.
[00:11:20] Um, uh, the, the amount of unpredictability I think is definitely a key factor.
[00:11:26] Oh, for sure.
[00:11:28] Because I mean, the, the strength of the show, I, cause I mentioned it with James and Dulé and their, their chemistry, but the strength of the show, the writing is it's about relationships.
[00:11:37] Yeah.
[00:11:38] Yeah.
[00:11:39] And those are always strong and, and growing and evolving.
[00:11:42] And that's what made the show work and made it continue to work because the gag of being psychic, but not really being psychic that can wear thin.
[00:11:50] And they kind of noticed that because you could see the way that whole bit evolved as the show went on.
[00:11:56] But the backbone of it was Sean and Gus.
[00:11:59] It was Sean and his dad.
[00:12:01] And then the Russia man style, you know.
[00:12:04] Yeah.
[00:12:05] It was all of that kind of stuff.
[00:12:07] That bully will get stuck in your head after a while.
[00:12:09] Gus and the blueberry too.
[00:12:11] Oh.
[00:12:12] Gus and the blueberry.
[00:12:13] That's a, that's a great relationship right there.
[00:12:15] Like.
[00:12:16] Yeah.
[00:12:16] Well, what new car is, yeah.
[00:12:18] Gus going to crash.
[00:12:20] Like all of that.
[00:12:21] And that's what made it work and why it's rewatchable too.
[00:12:25] Like that's why I can go back to it.
[00:12:26] Every season, just as they're getting comfortable.
[00:12:28] There's something.
[00:12:30] That's why it's nice to watch say from the beginning to the end.
[00:12:33] And you see the evolution of, of the lie that the show is based on.
[00:12:37] Yes.
[00:12:37] And everyone's different takes on the ethics of that.
[00:12:41] The dad is, you know, I won't cover for you again, but he does.
[00:12:46] You know, he's still the dad and he's got to.
[00:12:47] I just had to have my moment to just tell you.
[00:12:50] I'm against this, but I'm going to keep helping you anyway.
[00:12:54] And, and even though everyone gets comfortable with it, it starts to bite him in the ass over time.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:00] I mean, he almost loses Juliet over.
[00:13:02] Yeah.
[00:13:03] The episode post Vegas.
[00:13:05] Yeah.
[00:13:06] The whole episode following that is so dramatic, but it needed that just to remind him.
[00:13:10] Hey guys, no more pranks.
[00:13:12] Yeah.
[00:13:13] Well, also, I mean, there have to be stakes at a certain point, right?
[00:13:16] Yeah.
[00:13:17] For a show that largely, largely doesn't have them for the main characters.
[00:13:22] They bring them back so many times.
[00:13:23] There's one big, there's one big central fucking lie here that like, I don't know.
[00:13:28] I mean, you kind of have to address it at a certain point.
[00:13:31] Yeah.
[00:13:31] But I love this.
[00:13:32] They were able to, without it destroying the show.
[00:13:37] Yeah.
[00:13:37] Right.
[00:13:38] Because you also had the will they, won't they of Sean and Jules for a long time.
[00:13:42] Sure.
[00:13:43] That, that can wreck a show, but it didn't here because even though they get together.
[00:13:49] The actors dated in real life.
[00:13:50] So I think that helped too.
[00:13:51] I mean, that helps too, but, but they were able to, to make the connection because there
[00:13:55] was still the, the conflict of Sean's lie underneath it.
[00:13:58] So they didn't lose that by changing their dynamic.
[00:14:03] Absolutely.
[00:14:03] Instead of they have to be here because every other show has done it that way.
[00:14:09] Yeah.
[00:14:10] And I mean, Steve Franks, you know, he's had his own indie band.
[00:14:14] He comes up with the catchy theme song, but previously he was known just for writing an
[00:14:18] Adam Sandler movie, you know, Daddy.
[00:14:21] And well, I would like to see if he wants to do some other comedy shows in the future
[00:14:27] or if this is it, just do a psych movie every five years.
[00:14:32] I would assume he does rewrites too.
[00:14:35] That'd be my guess.
[00:14:37] Just because he has that, he has that like punch up.
[00:14:40] Well, but he has the punch up, the, the punch up ability that like, I think is probably marketable
[00:14:46] like as far as just doing like a, a punch up pass for movies and stuff.
[00:14:49] Yeah, no, that's true.
[00:14:51] Craig Turk, who co-created the FBI franchise previously was working in the David E. Kelly
[00:14:56] production company and same kind of deal.
[00:14:58] He learned all his rewrite tricks from there.
[00:15:00] Like, so it is.
[00:15:02] He even rewrote politician speeches.
[00:15:04] So it's, it's funny just seeing how many of these writers.
[00:15:08] We're so many hats.
[00:15:09] Josh Whedon got started doing punch ups and speed and adding humor to bigger scripts.
[00:15:14] Absolutely.
[00:15:15] You know, Darren Tino, baby.
[00:15:17] And it is funny how he does it.
[00:15:19] He wants to disown certain stuff.
[00:15:20] I'm like, dude, those references are yours.
[00:15:23] Oh, no.
[00:15:27] Oh, and I've never heard any crew member or director complain about their time in the show.
[00:15:33] So I think that's cool because you hear about it everywhere else where so-and-so incredibly
[00:15:38] got, you know, fired or so-and-so didn't get the show.
[00:15:43] So it was told to please leave at the end of whatever season.
[00:15:46] But it's so funny.
[00:15:47] Or you hear about Castle and what a fucking nightmare that was.
[00:15:50] Oh, yeah.
[00:15:50] The leads hated each other.
[00:15:51] And so they're just like.
[00:15:52] Oh, yeah.
[00:15:52] I mean, I knew people who worked on it.
[00:15:54] Like, it was.
[00:15:55] That was that bad?
[00:15:56] Yeah.
[00:15:58] The person I knew who worked on it was like, never meet your heroes.
[00:16:02] That's a bummer.
[00:16:03] I did some work on Queen of the South and everybody was pretty much, let's get paid.
[00:16:08] I think that's not a great.
[00:16:12] Yes, we do this for money, but when it's all it is, you're not tempted to do a good job
[00:16:17] if you just know it's kind of like going to class, but you're going to get a good grade
[00:16:22] just by being there versus your work that you turn in at the end of the day.
[00:16:26] I think it translates to the screen, too.
[00:16:27] It will.
[00:16:28] It'll be too robotic or static.
[00:16:31] Kind of like Bruce Willis' roles in the last 10 years.
[00:16:34] Yeah.
[00:16:35] I was really saddened when I found out that whole Ponzi scheme, how those guys were messing
[00:16:41] around with Wall Street money and people thought they were legit because they were co-producers
[00:16:46] on hit Crooked Cop and war movies.
[00:16:49] And it's like, there's a basically De Niro and Freeman and Pacino will always be in these
[00:16:54] awful movies.
[00:16:55] And Willis, unfortunately, was in those movies because he didn't know where he was.
[00:16:59] I'm like, that's awful.
[00:17:01] It's a shame.
[00:17:03] And it started out OK.
[00:17:04] And then by movie five, I'm like, kill me now.
[00:17:07] He just doesn't want to be here.
[00:17:10] These movies aren't very watchable.
[00:17:14] These are the kind of junk I would expect from Seagal or Eric Roberts, not previous A-lister.
[00:17:20] And I think that's it, too.
[00:17:22] Again, we've talked about all the different gags and how it was always trying to be as fresh
[00:17:26] as they could.
[00:17:26] But kudos to him for not having it be reliant on just who is the crazy person we're going
[00:17:30] to solve a case for.
[00:17:32] Yeah.
[00:17:33] It's just that it was always funny when it was just sometimes you get an X-Files type
[00:17:38] ending where you're just like, yeah, that's just out there.
[00:17:42] But it's meant to be.
[00:17:43] Yeah.
[00:17:43] I can't think of an ending that to me was not earned.
[00:17:47] I mean, the stories were well written enough that the twist or not that you would have predicted
[00:17:53] it often.
[00:17:55] I mean, you're not you're not seeing what Sean's seeing as a minute detail, but you believe
[00:18:03] it.
[00:18:03] It's written well enough that you believe it, that the twist or the ending is usually
[00:18:07] earned.
[00:18:07] None come across my mind on the top that I would say that, you know, that ending didn't hit
[00:18:12] with me.
[00:18:13] I loved them all, really.
[00:18:14] Right.
[00:18:15] I just sometimes they would keep a little mysterious as kind of a wink wink instead of like you say,
[00:18:20] where you're like, where did that come from?
[00:18:23] Well, it is a really it's an easy trope to fall into with murder mysteries is to just
[00:18:27] have the, you know, introduce the new character right at the end.
[00:18:31] And that's who did it or whatever it is like.
[00:18:34] Yeah.
[00:18:34] Don't do that.
[00:18:37] We'll return after these messages.

[00:19:50] There's something enlightening for everyone with this crowd of cool cats.
[00:19:54] Check them out.
[00:20:02] And yeah, you just, if they were to do any other like downright parody one, like it'd be funny
[00:20:08] if there were just like some loose like Breaking Bad references.
[00:20:11] Like they don't have to have any actor necessarily.
[00:20:12] Just like, that would be just like literally the story from top to finish and just do another
[00:20:18] wacky plot twist.
[00:20:19] Like when you see these actors, they did good at just, like you say, making it be very fleshed
[00:20:25] out as opposed to who's available in Canada.
[00:20:28] You know?
[00:20:29] And just kudos to all the, like you say, the one-offs.
[00:20:31] It's like you actually want to see the characters come back or, I mean, kudos to any of them because
[00:20:37] it's so hard to find your voice.
[00:20:40] It's already a competing genre.
[00:20:43] Even people who didn't like mystery shows were watching this.
[00:20:46] They're just guffawing.
[00:20:48] Oh, I mean, it's more a comedy to me than a mystery show.
[00:20:51] Like the mystery is kind of secondary to just like going along for the ride and watching
[00:20:57] Sean give Gus a different nickname or a different fake name, you know, like.
[00:21:03] Oh, yeah.
[00:21:04] I mean, if anything, that's what it has in common with Letterkenny and especially always
[00:21:08] Sonny.
[00:21:08] It's like, it's just an excuse for them to do something ridiculous.
[00:21:11] Something ridiculous.
[00:21:13] Yeah.
[00:21:13] Yeah.
[00:21:15] Anything for comedy.
[00:21:16] Anything.
[00:21:17] Well, because you've got to do something to stand out.
[00:21:20] Yeah.
[00:21:21] And you can't just like, so just being a comedy would be one thing.
[00:21:24] Just being the, you know, the mentalist would be another thing.
[00:21:28] Take those two things, put them together with incredibly clever writing and you get a
[00:21:33] show that can last eight seasons and three movies.
[00:21:36] Bingo.
[00:21:37] And you still enjoy it and talk about it.
[00:21:38] Like that's, but it all has to start at the top and it all has to be written well.
[00:21:42] And that's what the show did.
[00:21:43] Oh yeah.
[00:21:44] And I think, I think as well, what, what really helped as well was the heart that we had,
[00:21:52] have this, that I think a lot of these crime procedurals did not have, have, and the meta-ness
[00:22:02] of it.
[00:22:03] Yeah.
[00:22:04] Of how they, like, a lot of the, these other ones, they, uh, ones, it was just simply,
[00:22:12] we have this one guy, he has special powers, he, uh, ours to be good at being, uh, at solving
[00:22:18] crimes.
[00:22:18] Yeah.
[00:22:19] While this, they made sure you knew from the beginning, this is all bullshit.
[00:22:25] Yeah.
[00:22:27] Right.
[00:22:28] Uh, Sean's not going to let anyone down until he lets them down, but it's for a totally different
[00:22:32] reason, you know?
[00:22:34] And it was fun seeing him learn how to be an adult when, you know, his dad was never there
[00:22:39] with them.
[00:22:41] Yeah.
[00:22:42] Yeah.
[00:22:42] Towards the end where they were really laid it on thick about how he is, uh, you know,
[00:22:47] a moocher more or less.
[00:22:48] He lives off everyone else.
[00:22:51] Yeah.
[00:22:52] And it's, it slowly starts to sink in.
[00:22:55] Right.
[00:22:56] Yeah.
[00:22:57] Didn't they do a Jerry Maguire type parody?
[00:22:59] I need you to complete me or some shit like that.
[00:23:03] He did something kind of like that, which felt inspired by every feel good comedy.
[00:23:08] Maybe.
[00:23:09] I don't remember, but it would fit the tone.
[00:23:13] They're just so good at those cold opens too.
[00:23:15] It was like, this is what's happening.
[00:23:17] Oh my God.
[00:23:18] Um, nothing's changed with the crew.
[00:23:20] Everyone who helms the movies or people have been there since day one, you know?
[00:23:25] So, uh, Brad Turner, who's done a lot of suspense, you know, I think it's done some
[00:23:30] episodes.
[00:23:32] Yeah.
[00:23:32] I mean, whatever they do, I just know I'm going to be down.
[00:23:37] It's not going to be something just like, Oh, a movie like that's already done that.
[00:23:42] Or you have to have seen this movie in order to get these jokes.
[00:23:47] If Sean were to take over a convention, it wouldn't be derivative of something else.
[00:23:52] That's done that.
[00:23:53] Yeah.
[00:23:55] Oh man.
[00:23:58] I feel like we've, we've killed it guys.
[00:24:00] We buzzsawed it.
[00:24:02] We've psyched out.
[00:24:05] You guys came hard with the trivia, man.
[00:24:08] Some good trivia too.
[00:24:10] Yeah.
[00:24:10] I, I would like to see, just keep experimenting, just keep having fun with it instead of just,
[00:24:16] you know, we did that just cause.
[00:24:19] Yeah.
[00:24:20] Cash in a check.
[00:24:21] Right.
[00:24:22] Yeah.
[00:24:24] I mean, and kudos to them for referencing other stuff that the actors have done.
[00:24:28] You know, it's just like you say, it's a gift that keeps giving the people who I've seen just
[00:24:33] don't like psych or just those who just kind of, I don't know.
[00:24:37] It seems like they were expecting something different.
[00:24:39] That's kind of what I've only noticed in recent years.
[00:24:42] Or they just didn't care for the humor.
[00:24:44] They're just picky.
[00:24:45] So.
[00:24:46] And that's fine.
[00:24:47] You can be, you can be picky if you want.
[00:24:49] I'm just, it's interesting just seeing.
[00:24:51] You're wrong.
[00:24:52] But.
[00:24:54] I haven't really seen anybody who really disliked psych.
[00:24:58] I've never seen anyone.
[00:24:59] But I have.
[00:25:00] I hate this show.
[00:25:01] You know, I've never seen anyone go.
[00:25:03] But I do have a thing where I've noticed a lot of people and I've tried to get a lot
[00:25:08] of people to watch psych.
[00:25:09] Like, but it seems to be really hard to get people to watch it.
[00:25:14] Has anybody else noticed that?
[00:25:16] Yes.
[00:25:17] Especially with community fans.
[00:25:18] I'm like, oh, come on.
[00:25:19] This is two sides of the same coin.
[00:25:21] Come on.
[00:25:22] I'm like, I know you would love this show.
[00:25:25] Why do you not want to watch it?
[00:25:27] I do this with my uncle all the time.
[00:25:29] He'll want to watch a documentary and also just something funny.
[00:25:31] He's like, there's nothing funny on TV.
[00:25:33] I'm like, fucking bullshit.
[00:25:37] I run into the same thing where I've recommended it to people that I know would just devour the
[00:25:43] entire series.
[00:25:44] But I don't know if it's maybe the fact that it's a procedural.
[00:25:48] You know, that's not.
[00:25:49] There's a bit of that.
[00:25:50] I think people are just hesitant to get into something.
[00:25:53] And the older it gets, they're more like, I just want to do one and done.
[00:25:57] I'm like, but you can still do one and done.
[00:25:58] And if you like it, then you can watch it all from the beginning and get all the jokes.
[00:26:03] Oh, yeah.
[00:26:04] I mean, it is funny how I've been rewatching, you know, I'm sure Jamie knows this.
[00:26:10] I've rewatched some of the Star Trek shows from the beginning a few years back.
[00:26:13] And it was fun where once you get to the better seasons, now you can watch the seasons before
[00:26:18] they find their voice and you can enjoy that more now knowing where it's going to go forward.
[00:26:21] But then there's other shows where you don't get that.
[00:26:24] You're like, skip, you know, instantly that season just other than the pilot.
[00:26:28] It just doesn't work.
[00:26:29] And even then, season one, like we said, it's slow, but there's still some goodies, you know.
[00:26:35] So, I mean, it's hardly one that I can think of where it just the actors were, you know, goofing off or the writing was weak.
[00:26:45] You know, it was just one of those.
[00:26:46] It was just warming up and then slowly it overtook us.
[00:26:50] I don't think there's a bad season of Psych.
[00:26:53] There's just seasons that got better.
[00:26:54] I can't think of any where they just, I mean, we talked about the endings.
[00:26:58] We can't think of any where you're like, oh, they didn't even try with the case or the jokes.
[00:27:05] And they're always coming to something fresh.
[00:27:08] Yeah.
[00:27:09] Keeping it fresh.
[00:27:11] They had their sandbox and they made all the sandcastles they could.
[00:27:17] Two things that we haven't brought up that I remember really liking, the psych outs at the end of the episode.
[00:27:26] For those who actually watched it when it was airing, they would have just an extra funny scene.
[00:27:32] And then also, there's no way to watch them anymore, or at least not legally, but the animated adventures of little Sean and Gus.
[00:27:49] Oh, that's right.
[00:27:51] There was like a young Sean and Gus web series, too, I think.
[00:27:56] Yeah.
[00:27:57] I miss the old, like when the seasons were about to start airing the old, like video promos that they would do.
[00:28:06] Like the, the Hall and Oates one.
[00:28:09] Private Eyes.
[00:28:10] Yeah, but Ebony and Ivory.
[00:28:12] Yeah.
[00:28:13] I've seen those commercials.
[00:28:14] Private Eyes one is so good.
[00:28:15] I saw those.
[00:28:17] So good.
[00:28:17] Well, like years after, like, oh, these are great.
[00:28:20] Even the trailers for the show are just amusing.
[00:28:22] Oh, yeah.
[00:28:23] Especially when it was on ION TV every week.
[00:28:26] But once they're able to do, like, once they're able to really lean into, like, no, we're just this weird fucking show over here.
[00:28:33] Like.
[00:28:33] You can't define us.
[00:28:34] Just watch us.
[00:28:35] We're on.
[00:28:35] We'll entertain you.
[00:28:36] I mean, the Private Eyes one's so damn funny.
[00:28:41] Yes.
[00:28:43] I always enjoyed the commercials where they would cross them over with other characters.
[00:28:48] Monk and.
[00:28:49] Who else did they cross over with?
[00:28:51] Did they cross over with Burn Notice, I think?
[00:28:53] Burn Notice.
[00:28:53] That's like.
[00:28:54] Royal Pains.
[00:28:56] Ains.
[00:28:56] White Collar.
[00:28:57] Burn Notice was sometimes on after this.
[00:28:58] I was like, talk about a change of pace.
[00:29:00] You go from comedy to just flat out camp.
[00:29:05] Oh, man.
[00:29:06] I'm pretty sure, Aaron, like, I love all of the Blue Skies Eyes shows from the USA Network.
[00:29:13] Yeah.
[00:29:14] White Collar was there that time.
[00:29:15] Yeah.
[00:29:15] It was fun.
[00:29:16] And then I think they got spoiled on.
[00:29:18] We don't know what else to do.
[00:29:19] I think there was one with D'Onofrio from Criminal Intent in one.
[00:29:23] Yeah.
[00:29:23] It was more like they edited it together and make it look like they're having a conversation.
[00:29:27] They're not.
[00:29:27] But it's just funny because they had good editors back then doing bumpers.
[00:29:34] Yeah, no.
[00:29:35] They should do more of those just funny ads because it was almost kind of like Deadpool in a way where the trailer is the character in and of itself.
[00:29:42] Before you get to the main.
[00:29:44] Now, did anyone else actually watch the premiere when it premiered?
[00:29:48] No.
[00:29:49] I did not.
[00:29:50] Okay.
[00:29:51] I wish I did.
[00:29:52] Because I did.
[00:29:54] But, like, I'm a fucking weirdo.
[00:29:56] Like, I was.
[00:29:58] I know I watched it because, like, I had been watching Monk as it was airing.
[00:30:05] But I fell off of Monk eventually.
[00:30:06] Like, I didn't finish out Monk.
[00:30:09] But, like, because of whatever.
[00:30:12] I don't.
[00:30:13] I mean, I had cable at the time.
[00:30:14] I had DVR.
[00:30:15] But, like.
[00:30:17] It benefits from the DVR.
[00:30:18] I was watching this from the moment it dropped.
[00:30:21] And I was like, this is a weird show.
[00:30:23] But I didn't tell anyone about it.
[00:30:25] Like, I mean, I liked it.
[00:30:27] But I was like, what am I going to tell?
[00:30:31] Yeah.
[00:30:31] Kind of a lot of lowbrow stuff.
[00:30:32] You'd see, like, pretty respectable movies and, like, reruns of one of their popular shows like Wings.
[00:30:37] And then you're just like, oh.
[00:30:39] And now there's this.
[00:30:41] Yeah.
[00:30:41] I mean, this was pretty early on in USA doing, you know.
[00:30:45] I mean, not that they weren't.
[00:30:47] In the 90s they were doing original programming.
[00:30:49] Right.
[00:30:49] But it was.
[00:30:49] But it was like.
[00:30:50] Silk Stockings and what, Duckman?
[00:30:53] It was even crazier, like, than Adult Swim.
[00:30:56] Where you're like, what did I just watch?
[00:30:58] Was that an acid dream?
[00:30:59] You know.
[00:30:59] And I'm sure Jamie will appreciate this.
[00:31:03] To quote Shrek, this is an onion.
[00:31:05] It's got layers.
[00:31:08] Yeah.
[00:31:08] I just swallowed.
[00:31:12] Oh, man.
[00:31:14] I'm not sure they're doing a donkey movie.
[00:31:16] I did hear that.
[00:31:17] Yeah.
[00:31:18] Are they really?
[00:31:19] Yeah.
[00:31:21] And Murphy's back, baby.
[00:31:22] Just keep mining.
[00:31:25] Dig, dig, dig, I guess.
[00:31:26] Dig, dig, dig.
[00:31:28] They keep making money, though.
[00:31:29] Oh, you mean like the donkey in Shrek?
[00:31:31] I thought you were talking about something a lot more disturbing.
[00:31:34] Sorry.
[00:31:35] Not a donkey show.
[00:31:36] A donkey.
[00:31:37] Yes.
[00:31:38] I mean.
[00:31:39] Well, no.
[00:31:40] I thought they were like going big and going from show to movie.
[00:31:43] To Travis Minton, the David Fincher connection.
[00:31:46] Did they ever do any seven references on here?
[00:31:49] Or just funny, just mystery movies?
[00:31:51] I mean, I can't imagine they didn't.
[00:31:53] But I think there was a six six reference.
[00:31:54] I'm not recalling one.
[00:31:55] But yeah, I don't know.
[00:31:59] Every once in a while, they would bring up just like movie.
[00:32:02] I think there was a crying game reference.
[00:32:03] They would bring up movies that had like outrageous like endings that divided movie goers.
[00:32:09] Every once in a while.
[00:32:10] There's got to be a Silence of the Lambs reference in there somewhere.
[00:32:13] I'm sure.
[00:32:14] Gus does something weird with his lips.
[00:32:15] I would love one of the psych movies to reference a modern and murder mystery movie of Knives Out.
[00:32:26] There you go.
[00:32:27] They got to.
[00:32:29] How about the detective who's not Texan come in and make fun of that?
[00:32:33] I just think.
[00:32:34] Rian Johnson, the director of that, he has a relationship with Peacock since he does Poker Face.
[00:32:44] They could have him direct a psych movie.
[00:32:47] I bet that would be really fun.
[00:32:49] I think his rate's probably a little too high.
[00:32:52] Probably.
[00:32:53] Probably.
[00:32:54] If anything, they can just name drop him and just show how, hey, he does a divisive Star Wars movie.
[00:32:58] He does all these indies.
[00:32:59] And now he does the Knives Out franchise, which is a hit.
[00:33:02] If they were going to have him do an episode, it needed to be back in 2008 when he was doing Breaking Bad episodes or something.
[00:33:09] Yeah.
[00:33:12] Oh, man.
[00:33:14] When you mentioned Risu, the first thing that came to mind is Seven.
[00:33:20] Yeah.
[00:33:21] And I'd like to see them do something of that nature, but in a comedic way.
[00:33:27] Obviously not.
[00:33:27] Right.
[00:33:28] The detectives over the world.
[00:33:29] But that dark.
[00:33:30] Yeah, not that dark.
[00:33:31] But I want to see him interact with two detectives on the San Francisco PD that are carbon copies of Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt.
[00:33:40] Right.
[00:33:41] They're one of them who's about to retire.
[00:33:43] Exactly.
[00:33:44] And so it'd be like, throw a psychic detective in the middle of Seven.
[00:33:48] They could even imitate the one classic line, the effing guy's not Yoda.
[00:33:53] You know, they could play on that.
[00:33:56] I mean, hell, William Shatner did a period of that where he was playing both the detective and the killer for the MTV Awards.
[00:34:01] It'd be funny.
[00:34:02] But just like in Seven, you have the killer show up.
[00:34:04] You know, I'm the one you're looking for, detective.
[00:34:06] Also, then it's got to be.
[00:34:08] It should be Carrie Ells.
[00:34:09] You should be.
[00:34:11] Or the guy from The Medalist that you mentioned.
[00:34:13] Oh, there you go.
[00:34:14] Someone famous.
[00:34:15] And then it's a head-to-head psychoanalyst matchup.
[00:34:21] There you go.
[00:34:22] Now, is Simon Baker just forever contractually obligated to just be on CBS shows?
[00:34:28] I haven't seen him on CBS.
[00:34:30] Or like, will they unchain him from?
[00:34:34] He's been out there since like 2012.
[00:34:36] So I think he's now.
[00:34:37] I think there's a new Simon Baker show every single year on CBS.
[00:34:42] I haven't seen him.
[00:34:43] He signed one of those Tim Meadows SNL contracts.
[00:34:47] That's what happened.
[00:34:48] All right.
[00:34:49] Looks like as of recently, he's mostly just been doing movies.
[00:34:53] Yeah, I've seen him in a few horror mystery movies.
[00:34:55] So, I mean.
[00:34:58] I think he'd be up for it.
[00:34:59] I'm sure he has a sense of humor.
[00:35:00] He has to.
[00:35:01] If he's top ratio.
[00:35:06] Let's see.
[00:35:07] Let's just see.
[00:35:08] See them do something.
[00:35:09] I mean.
[00:35:09] And definitely bring back a few characters.
[00:35:12] This is a one-off or something.
[00:35:14] Have them come up with their own fictional like unit that.
[00:35:19] Does psychic-based crimes.
[00:35:20] They're just making fun of how every show has to have a spinoff.
[00:35:23] Just something else meta.
[00:35:25] The Mentalist ran for seven seasons.
[00:35:27] That's a good run.
[00:35:28] That's a good run.
[00:35:31] Hell.
[00:35:33] Have the guys who work on The Closer do it.
[00:35:37] They do a lot of comedy on that.
[00:35:39] It'd be pretty hard to kill whatever they got that's pure gold.
[00:35:42] I mean.
[00:35:43] They're pretty good at just knowing.
[00:35:45] Just testing out their jokes.
[00:35:46] I think.
[00:35:47] Just from the writing sessions to just filming it.
[00:35:50] It's not a victim to a bad film set.
[00:35:53] Or using lesser takes in the editing room.
[00:35:55] They really do polish everything they can.
[00:35:58] I mean.
[00:35:59] I will definitely get the complete pineapple collection sometime.
[00:36:02] When the DVD gets discounted.
[00:36:04] I know not everyone does DVD anymore.
[00:36:06] But I got to hear the commentary tracks.
[00:36:09] Yeah.
[00:36:09] It'd be worth it just for that.
[00:36:11] Yeah.
[00:36:11] Totally.
[00:36:11] I don't know if they ever had any special features or anything.
[00:36:14] But where do you go from here?
[00:36:16] You got an eight season show.
[00:36:19] You're going to have eight movies.
[00:36:20] And you have a musical special.
[00:36:22] I mean.
[00:36:22] How else would you want your show to go?
[00:36:25] It's a nice legacy to have.
[00:36:27] That's for sure.
[00:36:28] Perfect.
[00:36:29] This is the time where I plug everyone's private agencies.
[00:36:34] John.
[00:36:35] What do you got cooking?
[00:36:37] I'm the host of the Gamma Analysis podcast.
[00:36:40] I review mostly a bunch of geeky films.
[00:36:44] But occasionally I do stuff that's not really geeky.
[00:36:49] As of the night that we're recording this.
[00:36:52] I just released a review of Deadpool 2.
[00:36:57] And particularly though.
[00:36:59] The Once Upon a Deadpool version.
[00:37:01] The Christmas episode.
[00:37:03] The Christmas episode.
[00:37:04] Which is honestly my favorite version of the film.
[00:37:10] Just because of the.
[00:37:12] Even though it's PG-13 and not R-rated.
[00:37:16] It's so hilarious to me.
[00:37:18] It makes fun of how it's a cut down version.
[00:37:21] Because they framed it like the Princess Bride.
[00:37:26] Yes.
[00:37:26] And that just made it really hilarious to me.
[00:37:30] I just released that episode tonight.
[00:37:35] Sweet.
[00:37:36] Yeah.
[00:37:37] That's what I've been doing.
[00:37:39] Lovely.
[00:37:41] Perfect.
[00:37:43] Jamie.
[00:37:44] What do you got cooking?
[00:37:45] Oh man.
[00:37:46] We just started on Complete Disarray.
[00:37:48] My other show.
[00:37:49] Yes.
[00:37:50] We just started with a friend of mine.
[00:37:52] Nelson.
[00:37:52] From Average Home Theater Reviews.
[00:37:54] And we're going season by season.
[00:37:57] Of Tales from the Crypt.
[00:37:58] And picking out our favorite episodes.
[00:38:00] Nice.
[00:38:01] Talking about those.
[00:38:02] Have you.
[00:38:03] It's so funny you mention that.
[00:38:04] Because.
[00:38:05] We just had Dads from the Crypt back on.
[00:38:08] Uh huh.
[00:38:08] And if you want to check out their work.
[00:38:10] Check out the How Not to Make a Movie podcast.
[00:38:12] Which analyzes how Bordello of Blood.
[00:38:14] Was a disaster.
[00:38:15] On.
[00:38:16] On set.
[00:38:17] And on screen.
[00:38:18] And.
[00:38:18] They have so many of the guys.
[00:38:20] Who've been associated with that franchise.
[00:38:22] Just throughout the years.
[00:38:22] Just everybody.
[00:38:23] Uh.
[00:38:24] Romero's protege.
[00:38:25] John Harrison.
[00:38:25] To Stephen Hopkins.
[00:38:27] To other genre filmmakers.
[00:38:28] Who.
[00:38:28] Mind blown.
[00:38:29] It's like.
[00:38:30] Yeah.
[00:38:30] I wouldn't get this from their IMDB.
[00:38:32] You know.
[00:38:34] I'll check that out.
[00:38:35] And then every Friday.
[00:38:36] We drop new episodes of Fade 5 for fans.
[00:38:38] Yes.
[00:38:38] Next episode is going to be.
[00:38:42] Hell.
[00:38:42] I don't even know what it is.
[00:38:43] You're still going for a Picard again on the rewatch.
[00:38:45] That's fun.
[00:38:46] Yep.
[00:38:46] Yep.
[00:38:46] We're fixing to start season two of that.
[00:38:48] Love it.
[00:38:49] I always love having your geeky pals.
[00:38:50] Like.
[00:38:50] You guys pick each other's brain.
[00:38:52] And I always love when one of them breaks your rule.
[00:38:54] And you give them.
[00:38:54] You nag them.
[00:38:55] You're like.
[00:38:56] I see what you're doing there.
[00:38:56] Yeah right I do.
[00:38:58] Play nice people.
[00:39:00] Man.
[00:39:01] Steven.
[00:39:01] Music Rewind.
[00:39:02] You are always.
[00:39:04] You are doing a deep cut of a deep cut.
[00:39:07] You are.
[00:39:07] Music Rewind.
[00:39:08] Yeah.
[00:39:09] Even the B-sides get an analysis.
[00:39:13] My show is.
[00:39:15] A guest will come on my show.
[00:39:17] And bring an album they want to talk to.
[00:39:19] An album that is special to them.
[00:39:21] That.
[00:39:21] It's so hard to analyze certain albums.
[00:39:23] But there's those type.
[00:39:24] Where that's their.
[00:39:25] That's their bread and butter.
[00:39:26] It's amazing.
[00:39:28] I'm going on four seasons now.
[00:39:29] But.
[00:39:30] I am able to listen to a lot of these albums.
[00:39:32] As a first time run for me.
[00:39:34] Because they were not necessarily in my wheelhouse.
[00:39:36] Or.
[00:39:37] They weren't in college.
[00:39:38] Or.
[00:39:38] Or they were just.
[00:39:39] You know maybe I knew a couple tracks.
[00:39:41] Yesterday I recorded with.
[00:39:44] Brian Colburn of the.
[00:39:45] My Weekly Mixtape podcast.
[00:39:47] And we did.
[00:39:48] An album.
[00:39:49] Tom Petty.
[00:39:50] Into the Great Wide Open.
[00:39:51] Which.
[00:39:52] That's a great one.
[00:39:53] I knew maybe.
[00:39:54] Three tracks off it.
[00:39:55] But as a whole.
[00:39:56] I had never given the album.
[00:39:57] The attention that it deserves.
[00:39:58] So we.
[00:39:59] We talk about the album.
[00:40:01] We just geek out about the album for an hour.
[00:40:02] And I asked the guests.
[00:40:04] You know how they discovered it.
[00:40:05] Why is it special to them.
[00:40:07] And.
[00:40:08] Much like the TV rewatches.
[00:40:10] It gels even more.
[00:40:11] Now that you've got the.
[00:40:12] Complete picture.
[00:40:14] It's a really cool project.
[00:40:16] I've had going on for a couple years.
[00:40:18] Recently we did a.
[00:40:19] A poll out there for.
[00:40:21] You know the top albums of all time.
[00:40:23] So I'm kind of releasing that.
[00:40:24] In.
[00:40:25] In spurts.
[00:40:26] There we go.
[00:40:26] That will be some.
[00:40:28] That will be a neat cut.
[00:40:30] The.
[00:40:31] Voting is closed.
[00:40:32] I've had over.
[00:40:33] Over 100 results of stuff.
[00:40:34] And.
[00:40:35] I've been compiling.
[00:40:36] And releasing the results.
[00:40:38] Currently 500.
[00:40:40] Through 101.
[00:40:41] Is available.
[00:40:41] If you go to music.
[00:40:42] Rewind podcast.
[00:40:43] Dot com.
[00:40:44] You can see those current results.
[00:40:46] And they are interesting.
[00:40:47] To say the least.
[00:40:48] And the top 300.
[00:40:49] Is.
[00:40:49] Is damn competitive.
[00:40:51] I saw one of the polls you shared.
[00:40:51] I was like.
[00:40:52] No.
[00:40:53] They didn't.
[00:40:53] Okay.
[00:40:54] It's going to make some people angry.
[00:40:55] For sure.
[00:40:56] But the.
[00:40:56] People that replied.
[00:40:58] And wanted to vote.
[00:40:59] I mean you're talking from.
[00:41:00] Age.
[00:41:01] 16.
[00:41:01] To 80.
[00:41:02] You know.
[00:41:03] So they're.
[00:41:05] Interesting.
[00:41:07] Opinions out there.
[00:41:08] I love it.
[00:41:09] Travis.
[00:41:10] What do you have on the movie roundup?
[00:41:12] Well.
[00:41:13] So I do a show.
[00:41:14] Wait.
[00:41:14] You haven't seen.
[00:41:16] Somebody watching a movie.
[00:41:17] For the first time.
[00:41:18] Every time.
[00:41:19] I just did one.
[00:41:21] On predestination.
[00:41:22] I got a couple.
[00:41:22] Yeah.
[00:41:23] I've got a couple.
[00:41:24] Good ones coming up.
[00:41:26] A movie that I'd never.
[00:41:27] Heard of before.
[00:41:28] Dead and breakfast.
[00:41:29] I've got some.
[00:41:31] Good one.
[00:41:32] David Carey.
[00:41:32] Because they said.
[00:41:33] The person that's coming on.
[00:41:35] Said they like it better than.
[00:41:36] Shaun of the dead.
[00:41:37] So.
[00:41:38] That was what they used to hook me in.
[00:41:40] We'll see how it goes.
[00:41:41] I'll have.
[00:41:42] Can't we like it all.
[00:41:44] And hate it all.
[00:41:45] Yeah.
[00:41:45] Probably.
[00:41:46] I'm also in the midst of.
[00:41:47] Booking.
[00:41:48] Booking guests for my yearly.
[00:41:50] Celebration of all things.
[00:41:51] Nicolas Cage.
[00:41:51] Every August.
[00:41:53] I only do Nick Cage movies.
[00:41:55] Crazy hair.
[00:41:55] I used my.
[00:41:58] My anecdote on Jeopardy.
[00:42:00] To talk about Nicolas Cage.
[00:42:02] Perfect.
[00:42:03] He's a treasure.
[00:42:05] A national treasure.
[00:42:07] A national treasure.
[00:42:07] Indeed.
[00:42:08] An overactor.
[00:42:10] I wish I was wearing out of.
[00:42:11] It's mega acting.
[00:42:13] How dare you.
[00:42:15] Mega overacting.
[00:42:16] There you go.
[00:42:16] No.
[00:42:17] No.
[00:42:17] No.
[00:42:18] Just mega.
[00:42:19] No over.
[00:42:20] I didn't say he was bad.
[00:42:22] But I just say it's overacting.
[00:42:24] But yeah.
[00:42:24] I do that.
[00:42:25] And I also do a show on.
[00:42:26] Old TV.
[00:42:27] Anything pre-2000.
[00:42:29] We cover.
[00:42:30] And right now we're doing.
[00:42:32] We have four hosts.
[00:42:33] And we rotate.
[00:42:34] So we do a topic.
[00:42:35] And we each.
[00:42:36] Lead an episode.
[00:42:37] And we're doing.
[00:42:38] Fox Kids afternoon.
[00:42:40] Oh man.
[00:42:41] So we talked about stuff.
[00:42:43] Like the Beetlejuice cartoon.
[00:42:45] Avengers.
[00:42:46] For a little bit.
[00:42:48] I'm bringing up.
[00:42:48] The Tick animated.
[00:42:50] Oh damn.
[00:42:52] So that's another fun one.
[00:42:53] It's called.
[00:42:54] Those were the days.
[00:42:55] So yeah.
[00:42:55] We've got great stuff.
[00:42:56] Going for both.
[00:42:57] Or you had Toonami.
[00:42:58] All the others.
[00:42:59] Yeah.
[00:43:00] Oh yeah.
[00:43:00] Pre-Toonami.
[00:43:02] But we pick a different topic.
[00:43:04] All the time.
[00:43:04] And it's always fun to try.
[00:43:05] And then figure out.
[00:43:06] The episodes to do for that.
[00:43:08] So that one's a lot of fun.
[00:43:12] Josh.
[00:43:13] Hit it away.
[00:43:14] Dumb dumb.
[00:43:16] So.
[00:43:17] Launched by Benson's always going.
[00:43:18] That's weekly.
[00:43:20] Trying to go home crazy.
[00:43:22] He's like.
[00:43:22] I'm going to watch this episode again.
[00:43:23] We're 219 episodes.
[00:43:26] In.
[00:43:26] As of.
[00:43:27] Well.
[00:43:28] Right now.
[00:43:30] By the time this drops.
[00:43:32] Well.
[00:43:33] We figured.
[00:43:33] Or I figured out today.
[00:43:34] That.
[00:43:35] If there were.
[00:43:36] If.
[00:43:36] Just.
[00:43:37] Miraculously.
[00:43:38] No more seasons.
[00:43:38] Were to air of us.
[00:43:39] SVU.
[00:43:41] We still wouldn't be done.
[00:43:42] Until November.
[00:43:43] Fucking 2030.
[00:43:45] He got a decade.
[00:43:47] God.
[00:43:48] So many.
[00:43:50] Episodes of SVU.
[00:43:51] So much.
[00:43:52] My Benson's every week.
[00:43:53] That's an irreverent.
[00:43:55] SVU podcast.
[00:43:57] Where we.
[00:43:58] Talk about the episode.
[00:44:00] And then.
[00:44:00] Rate it.
[00:44:01] In terms of.
[00:44:02] How.
[00:44:04] How.
[00:44:05] Good.
[00:44:05] The episode was.
[00:44:06] How.
[00:44:07] Good.
[00:44:08] The guest stars were.
[00:44:09] How problematic.
[00:44:09] It was.
[00:44:10] Problematic.
[00:44:11] The more problematic.
[00:44:12] The better.
[00:44:13] And how many.
[00:44:13] Lives were destroyed.
[00:44:15] But also.
[00:44:16] The depth and breadth.
[00:44:16] Of lives ruined.
[00:44:18] Also.
[00:44:18] The more.
[00:44:19] The better.
[00:44:19] You also do some cool.
[00:44:21] Fact checking.
[00:44:21] Like.
[00:44:22] Yeah.
[00:44:22] Yeah.
[00:44:23] We do.
[00:44:23] We do.
[00:44:24] Weird.
[00:44:25] Dives.
[00:44:25] Into all kinds of shit.
[00:44:26] Like if they talk about a Knicks game.
[00:44:28] We're like.
[00:44:29] Oh.
[00:44:29] They're lying.
[00:44:30] That Knicks game didn't happen.
[00:44:32] Or whatever.
[00:44:33] You know.
[00:44:33] Like.
[00:44:34] We will.
[00:44:35] Or the Coach Abamba.
[00:44:36] Water Wars.
[00:44:37] We'll go into the Coach Abamba.
[00:44:38] Water Wars.
[00:44:39] But we also.
[00:44:41] Have a second podcast.
[00:44:44] Unkind Rewind.
[00:44:45] Where we.
[00:44:47] Do a.
[00:44:49] Different.
[00:44:49] Guest.
[00:44:50] Each kind of.
[00:44:51] Rotation.
[00:44:52] It's.
[00:44:52] It's like a two week cycle.
[00:44:54] And.
[00:44:55] The.
[00:44:57] The premise is basically.
[00:44:59] We do a movie that.
[00:45:00] Our guest.
[00:45:01] Grew up liking.
[00:45:03] But hasn't seen.
[00:45:04] Since they were.
[00:45:05] Young.
[00:45:06] You know.
[00:45:07] Basically.
[00:45:07] Since their.
[00:45:08] Prefrontal.
[00:45:08] Prefrontal cortex.
[00:45:10] Developed.
[00:45:11] So.
[00:45:14] You know.
[00:45:15] Times change.
[00:45:16] And.
[00:45:17] Movies.
[00:45:19] Don't always.
[00:45:20] Age well.
[00:45:21] Yeah.
[00:45:22] One of those.
[00:45:23] Yeah.
[00:45:23] There are a lot of those.
[00:45:25] And.
[00:45:25] So.
[00:45:26] We basically.
[00:45:27] We get a list.
[00:45:27] Of.
[00:45:28] Of movies.
[00:45:28] From our guests.
[00:45:29] And then.
[00:45:29] We do a.
[00:45:32] We do like.
[00:45:33] A pre-interview.
[00:45:33] Where we ask them.
[00:45:34] What they remember.
[00:45:35] About the movie.
[00:45:35] And then.
[00:45:36] Play back.
[00:45:37] Play back.
[00:45:37] The.
[00:45:42] After they've.
[00:45:42] Rewatched it.
[00:45:45] Yeah.
[00:45:46] Intrude.
[00:45:46] That's unkind.
[00:45:47] Rewind.
[00:45:47] It's a fun.
[00:45:48] Season two.
[00:45:49] Should be up.
[00:45:50] Yep.
[00:45:50] Season two.
[00:45:51] Should be dropping.
[00:45:52] When this drops.
[00:45:52] I presume.
[00:45:53] Yes.
[00:45:54] We're partway through.
[00:45:55] We're most of the way.
[00:45:56] Through season one.
[00:45:56] Right now.
[00:45:57] But.
[00:45:57] There'll be like.
[00:45:58] Six weeks off.
[00:45:59] In between.
[00:45:59] So.
[00:46:00] Perfect.
[00:46:01] Hey.
[00:46:02] You guys all brought it.
[00:46:03] And.
[00:46:04] Speaking of unwinding.
[00:46:05] I mean.
[00:46:05] I feel like.
[00:46:06] That's kind of what we did here.
[00:46:07] Where it's just like.
[00:46:09] It's a comedy show.
[00:46:10] But it's not just any comedy show.
[00:46:11] It's just very.
[00:46:13] It's so down to earth.
[00:46:14] In the most quirky way.
[00:46:17] For sure.
[00:46:19] Oh man.
[00:46:20] Well I just want to thank you Cam.
[00:46:21] For having this on.
[00:46:22] Thanks.
[00:46:23] Absolutely.
[00:46:24] But thank you all.
[00:46:24] It's always fun coming out of our comfort zone.
[00:46:26] In a way.
[00:46:27] You know.
[00:46:28] Talking about something we all like.
[00:46:30] But also.
[00:46:31] Trying to even just.
[00:46:32] Go through words.
[00:46:33] That.
[00:46:34] Sometimes near impossible.
[00:46:35] To describe what the topic is.
[00:46:36] It's just.
[00:46:38] Cam.
[00:46:38] Do you have a.
[00:46:39] You have any Twilight Zone episodes.
[00:46:41] In your.
[00:46:41] Back catalog.
[00:46:43] We.
[00:46:44] We actually have those coming out.
[00:46:45] Where we're going to.
[00:46:45] That was going to be split up.
[00:46:47] But the best part we did probably this year.
[00:46:49] Was an Indiana Jones ranking.
[00:46:50] We.
[00:46:50] We just said.
[00:46:51] How many boulders.
[00:46:52] Out of five.
[00:46:53] Are you going to give this.
[00:46:54] Or are you going to just give it the snake pit.
[00:46:56] And.
[00:46:57] We.
[00:46:57] We split up into other things.
[00:46:58] Talking about the comic books.
[00:47:00] And the video games.
[00:47:01] And.
[00:47:02] It was really a delight.
[00:47:03] Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
[00:47:05] Well yeah.
[00:47:06] We did bring it up.
[00:47:07] And that was a fun one.
[00:47:08] Where.
[00:47:08] You want to.
[00:47:09] You want to talk.
[00:47:10] Nick picking.
[00:47:10] It was like.
[00:47:11] Yeah.
[00:47:12] There's no damn way.
[00:47:12] He met Pancho Villa.
[00:47:15] There's no damn way.
[00:47:16] Some history classes.
[00:47:18] Show those episodes.
[00:47:19] So that.
[00:47:19] That was a more fun.
[00:47:20] There is like.
[00:47:21] Okay.
[00:47:22] Take over the grain of salt.
[00:47:23] It is fun.
[00:47:24] Seeing some of the guest stars.
[00:47:25] On that show.
[00:47:26] There was a.
[00:47:26] Daniel Craig.
[00:47:27] Was an evil colonel.
[00:47:28] In one.
[00:47:29] Man.
[00:47:30] Well very nice guys.
[00:47:31] Very nice.
[00:47:33] Man.
[00:47:33] You rocked it.
[00:47:34] Thank you.
[00:47:35] Thank you.
