[00:00:14] That first night in jail, no idea what's gonna happen to you. You're away from everything that comforts you, everything that makes you feel at home. That's real fear.

[00:00:23] Power poisons the heart.

[00:00:26] I'm being set up.

[00:00:27] It changes it from within.

[00:00:29] We need to make people believe you are legit club owner James St. Patrick.

[00:00:34] Keep your crews on point, business as usual.

[00:00:41] We're family. And we protect each other.

[00:00:45] If anyone asks, we don't call them ghosts.

[00:00:48] Being with James St. Patrick was the biggest mistake of my life.

[00:00:52] No citizen is safe with a man like him on the street.

[00:00:54] How close are the feds to bringing the heat down on us?

[00:00:57] Do we have anything to worry about?

[00:01:00] No.

[00:01:07] They're just trying to break you.

[00:01:09] You and I are in this together.

[00:01:13] But you need to start acting like you know that.

[00:01:16] Your path back to the top is wide open.

[00:01:32] Your dad's about to get what he deserves.

[00:01:38] It's time for all of us to move on from ghosts permanently.

[00:01:44] He goes down and you and I are the ones who survive.

[00:01:48] You don't really think I did this.

[00:01:49] You're right, Jamie.

[00:01:51] I know you did it.

[00:01:52] I'm going to keep grinding until the day that I die.

[00:02:00] 412.

[00:02:01] I still need to get caught up on the other ones.

[00:02:03] I really did the second season of book two.

[00:02:06] And I saw most of book free.

[00:02:07] I still got to go for book four.

[00:02:10] Of the power franchise.

[00:02:12] Oh, yeah.

[00:02:13] I actually just actually got caught up on all the other ones recently.

[00:02:19] Perfect.

[00:02:19] I was on the fence about watching them at first.

[00:02:23] Because sometimes when you...

[00:02:25] I was the same way.

[00:02:26] I'm like, Tariq?

[00:02:27] Oh, no.

[00:02:29] Be milking.

[00:02:30] And not actually.

[00:02:31] But they're actually all pretty good shows, though, actually.

[00:02:34] Yeah.

[00:02:35] Well, I think it even goes back to the shill and even the Yellowstone franchise.

[00:02:39] If you just like the world, you can forgive when there's a lesser season or anything.

[00:02:43] I mean, I'm even this way with Criminal Minds.

[00:02:46] Like, the shows are at their best when they just...

[00:02:50] Just go full apeshit.

[00:02:52] Like, just let the characters explode into conflict, but don't repeat every season.

[00:02:58] Yeah.

[00:02:59] But, like, the power, the spin-offs are actually pretty good.

[00:03:03] Ghost and...

[00:03:04] It made me go back and realize, oh, my God.

[00:03:06] I've seen Omari Hardwick in so many movies.

[00:03:08] I had no idea.

[00:03:09] Oh, yeah.

[00:03:09] I mean, I mean...

[00:03:11] Power was his breakout role.

[00:03:13] I mean, he was acting...

[00:03:15] Wow.

[00:03:15] He's still ever seen an Army of the Dead.

[00:03:18] You ever seen a movie shot, Connor?

[00:03:19] Yes.

[00:03:20] Yep.

[00:03:20] Yep.

[00:03:21] Oh, the...

[00:03:21] Dude.

[00:03:25] He's had some other interesting guest spots.

[00:03:27] He was on a show for two years on TNT called Dark Blue, which was some officers going undercover.

[00:03:33] Yeah, that's...

[00:03:34] That was a spinoff of the Kurt Russell Dark Blue movie from McGregor.

[00:03:40] No, but it was similar.

[00:03:43] I mean, it was based off that film.

[00:03:47] The show was based off the idea of the Dark Blue movie.

[00:03:50] No.

[00:03:51] It is.

[00:03:52] Not that I saw.

[00:03:53] It was...

[00:03:55] I mean, what's Dark Blue?

[00:03:57] I mean...

[00:03:58] It just had one of the lead Law & Order writers, and it was produced by Bruckheimer.

[00:04:03] But to be fair, we have done a special in all of David Iyer's movies, and I did actually

[00:04:08] like the Training Day show.

[00:04:11] I mean, that show, unfortunately, didn't get off because of...

[00:04:16] Oh, you're talking about that Dark Blue.

[00:04:18] Okay, I see what you're talking about now.

[00:04:19] Right, right.

[00:04:20] Yeah, but don't get me wrong.

[00:04:22] That's where...

[00:04:23] I mean, when we talk filmmakers and everything, I see other people who only know someone from

[00:04:28] like a recent movie they did.

[00:04:29] I'm like, guys, I've been following Iyer and Michael Mann and all these other guys all my

[00:04:33] life.

[00:04:34] If you're getting stung up on a recent movie they did that's not too good, it's like, still,

[00:04:38] go back to the ones that they did at the dawn of their career.

[00:04:43] It was like, Iyer was working with Antoine Fuqua and all these cool cats.

[00:04:51] I mean, he got me into all these Serpico-type movies where I'm like, Jesus, what a cool way

[00:04:57] to have neo-noir and corruption and real-life issues presented.

[00:05:03] I remember that show.

[00:05:04] I didn't really watch it, but I do remember it.

[00:05:07] It was okay.

[00:05:07] It wasn't a must-see thing, but it was big star power.

[00:05:12] I mean, Street King, it was another cool movie for me where I was like, wow, okay, so Iyer's

[00:05:18] utilizing Keanu and Forrest Whitaker, pretty cool.

[00:05:24] Yeah, because I like...

[00:05:27] Keanu Reeves starts out technically as the villain in that film.

[00:05:30] Yeah, he's a shithead, and then you're like, oh, and now he's being set up?

[00:05:33] What's going on?

[00:05:36] Yeah.

[00:05:36] Um, but yeah, like, uh, power spin-offs are pretty good.

[00:05:42] Stories are actually pretty good.

[00:05:44] In her, yeah.

[00:05:46] I see.

[00:05:46] Forrest Ghost ends this year, and then Forrest is next year, but then they're doing another

[00:05:53] spin-off.

[00:05:54] Don't you love all the throwbacks they do to New Jack City?

[00:05:57] Because Mario Van Peoples directed a few episodes.

[00:05:59] Oh, yeah.

[00:06:00] I mean, it's, hey, it's in that area, and that...

[00:06:04] Yeah.

[00:06:05] Same kind of premise, you know.

[00:06:07] The reign of Keanu that takes place during that period that New Jack City happened, so...

[00:06:12] Great role for Lawrence Tate.

[00:06:15] Lawrence Tate.

[00:06:16] Yeah, he, uh, he...

[00:06:18] There's sometimes you see some old dog come out in his character.

[00:06:21] You're right.

[00:06:25] Raising that up into that character sometimes.

[00:06:27] I'll be laughing when that character comes out.

[00:06:30] Oh, boy.

[00:06:31] And how cool that he...

[00:06:33] I thought his brother, who was acting briefly in, like, some B-movies, had given it up,

[00:06:37] and was like, nope, nope, he's back, and they're playing brothers.

[00:06:39] Awesome.

[00:06:40] He has another...

[00:06:41] He has two, he has...

[00:06:42] That brother has another brother.

[00:06:44] Actually, that brother that's on the show with him, if I remember correctly, twin,

[00:06:49] and they have another brother, but I think he produces more than acts.

[00:06:53] I can't remember what I thought about.

[00:06:54] Oh, wow.

[00:06:55] Um, well, yeah, I mean, like, his brother's been acting, I mean, I remember watching him

[00:06:59] and Jason's Lyric when I was a kid, um...

[00:07:03] Yeah.

[00:07:03] And his brother used a couple of the show.

[00:07:05] Um...

[00:07:06] That's what was even more ironic, is like...

[00:07:09] He was also in, um, Don't Be a Minus in South Central.

[00:07:13] I was reading, he was using the...

[00:07:14] Right, in the parody of...

[00:07:18] Oh, man.

[00:07:19] I mean, I need to get into the family business that Ernie Hudson's in.

[00:07:24] Yeah, I've watched...

[00:07:26] Actually, I've seen an episode of two of that.

[00:07:28] That's actually not a bad show, neither.

[00:07:30] Um...

[00:07:30] It was one of those, I think people bashed it because they saw a cheesy trailer for it,

[00:07:35] and it's like, well, the trailer's not the movie.

[00:07:39] There's plenty of movies I want to see, and sure enough, I see a cheesy TV spot,

[00:07:44] and I'm like, well, that's not what it sounds like on paper.

[00:07:47] I think it's like, you know, it comes on B...

[00:07:50] It's a BET Plus show.

[00:07:52] I think, you know, kind of like, you get the idea, like, maybe it was kind of like some

[00:07:55] Hallmark type of show, but like, it's on BET Plus.

[00:07:59] That's the other thing.

[00:08:00] They look at the production value, or what the channel's typically known for, and I mean,

[00:08:05] that's what FX and USA, they had all these hit shows, but people didn't watch them right

[00:08:09] away because they were previously known for campy, stupid material, you know?

[00:08:14] I mean, USA used to be weird signs.

[00:08:16] Yeah, it used to be so...

[00:08:19] There's a great podcast with the cast of Psych, and they talk about when they first signed

[00:08:25] up, they're like, USA, is that the channel that airs Silk Stockings?

[00:08:29] Yeah, man, well, Silk Stockings was a successful show, though.

[00:08:32] That ran up late for...

[00:08:33] Right, no one's denying it's success.

[00:08:35] It's just that they were known for camp, like, USA up all night, and it's just like...

[00:08:39] I mean, sci-fi channel, you know?

[00:08:40] They used to be pretty calm before they went into, you know, original movies.

[00:08:46] Well, that and wrestling, you know, for years, you know?

[00:08:50] Wrestling, oh my god, yeah.

[00:08:52] Yeah.

[00:08:53] And their VP was a total douche to fans.

[00:08:55] Like, he did not want Battlestar to be successful.

[00:09:01] They just wanted it a mid-replacement show, and then it was really good.

[00:09:06] Battlestar was...

[00:09:07] It was a miniseries first.

[00:09:09] It was like, you know, they were going to do it.

[00:09:12] But it was successful, they had to do a television series.

[00:09:15] Yeah, and then they see it, and they're like, it's better than we actually anticipated.

[00:09:19] We thought it was just going to be stupid or cheesy, like our other Canadian shows we have on.

[00:09:25] Can't lie with the Emmys.

[00:09:28] Yeah, I mean, but the guy did work on Star Trek, so he wasn't coming from...

[00:09:32] I had so much fun going for that.

[00:09:34] Like, have you ever seen the extended...

[00:09:36] I have the whole Blu-ray set.

[00:09:37] I'd love to give it to you one day.

[00:09:38] Like, it's so much fun seeing the extended scenes of certain episodes, because they just have, like, extra, like, quiet time.

[00:09:47] We were talking all episode about psychology and everything.

[00:09:52] Like, you have some of those other just slower moments that just complement the moments that everyone remembers where everyone's exploding or doing a military coup.

[00:10:02] Yeah, like, uh...

[00:10:04] I got to meet Edward James almost, so, like, yeah, he was fucking...

[00:10:08] I'm so glad his cancer scare is over.

[00:10:10] I actually just re-watched...

[00:10:12] I introduced my parents to Stand and Deliver.

[00:10:15] Yeah, like, when I met him, I said, hey, man, that's like...

[00:10:17] That's the number one teacher movie ever.

[00:10:20] One of my favorite things I've seen, you would be like, yeah, man, that was...

[00:10:24] He said it was really fun to make that one.

[00:10:25] One of my favorites, too.

[00:10:26] It took a huge pay cut for it.

[00:10:28] It was, like, co-produced by PBS.

[00:10:30] You know, it's like...

[00:10:32] And...

[00:10:32] I mean, you're a teacher, but...

[00:10:34] There's a reason.

[00:10:35] It's just a good movie.

[00:10:36] Like, you just get a very...

[00:10:39] I mean, it was a real story, and then you get...

[00:10:42] Get you in the street and get the shit out of here.

[00:10:44] Yeah.

[00:10:48] My buddy, Jeannie Acosta-Strampos, who's fortunately been able to be...

[00:10:54] Go a step further from being extrovert to stuntwoman.

[00:10:59] She's now was the extras coordinator on Bass Reeves recently.

[00:11:06] And I applauded her, because she got the gig the same week her mother passed away in Odessa, Texas.

[00:11:11] I'm like, good grief.

[00:11:13] That's...

[00:11:13] Well, go make her happy.

[00:11:14] You know?

[00:11:15] Go make her proud.

[00:11:17] But...

[00:11:17] But, man.

[00:11:18] Talk about all that trauma back-to-back with success.

[00:11:21] But she had a hysterical story on how one season of Fear of the Walking Dead, she's doing zombie stunts.

[00:11:29] And...

[00:11:29] She ends up being on an episode that's directed by Lou Diamond Phillips.

[00:11:33] And, you know, Lou is just...

[00:11:35] Again.

[00:11:36] Just like it was in the 80s.

[00:11:37] Very charismatic.

[00:11:38] Very laid-back.

[00:11:39] Just...

[00:11:40] Wants to be part of an ensemble.

[00:11:42] And...

[00:11:42] He gets to joke with everybody.

[00:11:44] But he's like, you're gonna really enjoy dying today.

[00:11:47] It's gonna be chaotic.

[00:11:49] Mm-hmm.

[00:11:51] Just...

[00:11:51] Set the mood.

[00:11:53] He was at UTA a couple months ago.

[00:11:56] I think so.

[00:11:57] Yeah.

[00:11:57] I saw that he was listening to some other cons the last two years.

[00:12:01] Actually, he's gonna...

[00:12:02] I forget.

[00:12:03] He's gonna be doing a lot more with UTA, actually.

[00:12:06] I don't know.

[00:12:06] I wanna say he's teaching...

[00:12:07] That's where he graduated, yeah.

[00:12:09] Yeah.

[00:12:09] I don't know if he's teaching there or not.

[00:12:12] But I know he's doing a lot more with the university.

[00:12:14] And 2013-14, I know there was like some presentation that was aired in like the...

[00:12:21] The Mac Center.

[00:12:22] So that was kind of courtesy.

[00:12:23] I believe they were there just recently.

[00:12:24] Like in the last year...

[00:12:26] In the last year, they had something.

[00:12:28] I think he's gonna be...

[00:12:30] Again, I'm...

[00:12:31] Could...

[00:12:31] I...

[00:12:31] I can't be for sure looking up again.

[00:12:34] But I think he's gonna...

[00:12:35] I will look forward to it if I see it.

[00:12:37] I...

[00:12:37] I mean...

[00:12:38] When COVID first hit, I...

[00:12:40] I grew an even bigger respect for him where he did a giant like Zoom chat where he and

[00:12:45] the author who wrote the books for Longmire decided to co-host an event together and they

[00:12:52] were answering all other kinds of questions.

[00:12:54] But they had a good...

[00:12:55] I think the reason it went so well is they had a good way of just like, you know, putting

[00:13:00] on the celeb persona and then organizing the events and everyone like in the mode, you

[00:13:06] know, like, hey, welcome.

[00:13:08] Here's what we're gonna be talking about.

[00:13:09] You know, it's like, see, that's cool.

[00:13:10] Because there's so many other people who kind of just rush into it and it's like, well,

[00:13:14] hold on.

[00:13:14] You know, not ready.

[00:13:17] Well, yeah, I might be looking into it.

[00:13:18] Like, I forget exactly what he...

[00:13:20] What they said.

[00:13:22] I don't know.

[00:13:22] I don't want to say he's teaching them.

[00:13:24] I know he's gonna be doing a lot more with their UTA theater department.

[00:13:30] But I just forgot exactly what it was.

[00:13:33] But yeah, um...

[00:13:35] But yeah, man.

[00:13:36] Like I said, I've enjoyed doing it in the podcast.

[00:13:38] Always a delight, my dude.

[00:13:39] I'm so glad you're doing better.

[00:13:41] Yeah, man.

[00:13:41] Like I said, man, I'm...

[00:13:42] I'm trying, man.

[00:13:43] I'm gonna keep...

[00:13:44] Keep going at it.

[00:13:45] I'm gonna finish up this...

[00:13:47] I got said earlier before we went on live.

[00:13:50] You know, I'm working on...

[00:13:52] You know, the White Rose.

[00:13:54] Yeah, stuff is not a web series.

[00:13:56] I'm working on that.

[00:13:57] Get back on the scripts.

[00:13:59] I was working on...

[00:14:00] I was working on the show.

[00:14:00] You know, I was working on the show.

[00:14:01] I was working on the show.

[00:14:01] Yeah, you know, it's like again...

[00:14:05] Birthdays next month.

[00:14:07] I don't want to take in the same shit that I did with last year until that year.

[00:14:11] So get back on my shit.

[00:14:14] What day is it?

[00:14:17] Fuck, my birthday this year is gonna be on Monday, 19th.

[00:14:21] I can be there.

[00:14:23] I'll be at work, man.

[00:14:26] Probably that week in the...

[00:14:27] I don't know what I'm doing for my birthday.

[00:14:28] I still got time, though.

[00:14:30] I'll mail you some of those.

[00:14:32] Nice.

[00:14:33] But yeah, like I said, we need to do another one soon, man.

[00:14:37] Like about 24 to power or something like that, man.

[00:14:40] I promise.

[00:14:41] We do 24.

[00:14:42] Let's do season seven, man.

[00:14:44] That's like one of my favorite seasons.

[00:14:45] Oh, wait.

[00:14:46] Something even better.

[00:14:47] We were thinking of listening to our favorite moments or doing a saga ranking.

[00:14:52] Yeah, man.

[00:14:52] Like definitely.

[00:14:53] But like definitely...

[00:14:55] Because we reviewed all the seasons.

[00:14:56] But we did it in like...

[00:14:57] But we did it in like one and two and then three and four and then...

[00:15:04] Oh, yeah.

[00:15:04] Then we just go over like memorable moments or just, you know...

[00:15:08] Well, and that's why I try to keep it that way because like...

[00:15:11] Trust me.

[00:15:12] Like there were times where it was like we wanted to be on each other's shows

[00:15:16] but we didn't have the right time.

[00:15:17] So I was like, okay, let's talk about our favorite villains from Die Hard.

[00:15:20] Let's talk about our favorite moments on Justified.

[00:15:22] You know, just...

[00:15:23] Let's just do one that's over Jack in general, man.

[00:15:26] Let's do it in the character.

[00:15:28] The Freddy vs. Jason franchise one, I'm looking forward to the most.

[00:15:34] It's going to be just funny just seeing how people defend their team.

[00:15:38] And then there might be some other surprises.

[00:15:40] It's like, hey, I think they both have a cool part three.

[00:15:43] You know?

[00:15:44] Part four.

[00:15:45] Yeah, man, but definitely...

[00:15:47] Who has the better show?

[00:15:47] Who has the better remake?

[00:15:50] Ah, man.

[00:15:51] That's a whole different...

[00:15:53] I have...

[00:15:55] I've...

[00:15:55] Like, so I've met...

[00:15:58] England?

[00:15:59] Well, I've met him twice but I'm talking about Rachel Talley who...

[00:16:04] You know, she's like...

[00:16:04] She's directing shit left and right now but, you know, she started on the Nightmare on

[00:16:09] Street franchise.

[00:16:10] That's right.

[00:16:11] I was a PA on the first film and then writing, directing, producing, you know, like Freddy's

[00:16:19] Dead in the later films.

[00:16:20] I met her a couple years ago.

[00:16:22] I wish you knew that.

[00:16:23] Ah, she's cool as shit.

[00:16:26] She's like, you know, she does a lot of...

[00:16:28] Direct a lot of Doctor Who, Flash.

[00:16:31] She's a really good director in general.

[00:16:35] I mean, her stuff she's directed on stuff for television.

[00:16:39] Our film.

[00:16:41] But when I met her, I asked her, you know, what do you think about the Nightmare on Elm Street

[00:16:46] remake?

[00:16:47] She's like, it was shit.

[00:16:49] She's like, it was...

[00:16:52] Don't make your heroes.

[00:16:54] Well, I mean, I agree with her though.

[00:16:55] It was shit.

[00:16:56] And like, she didn't...

[00:16:58] Because, you know, they didn't...

[00:17:01] Like, Wes Craven didn't even know about the reboot until after it was already in production.

[00:17:06] Yeah, I hear you.

[00:17:07] You know, it's like, there's...

[00:17:08] I mean, there's plenty of movies we like.

[00:17:10] But then we look back, it's like, it didn't need to go past part three or whatever.

[00:17:15] You know, it's just like...

[00:17:16] I mean, yeah, we could do a whole thing with Freddy.

[00:17:18] I don't know, Freddy.

[00:17:19] You're like, Freddy is my dude, my guy when it comes to heart.

[00:17:21] And then we got the Evil Dead.

[00:17:23] It's part of that verse with the Necronomicon song.

[00:17:25] Oh, man.

[00:17:27] You know, last year we went through all...

[00:17:30] Every single Evil Dead film.

[00:17:32] Yes, we did.

[00:17:33] You guys were having a lot of fun on part two.

[00:17:36] As we expect anyone to.

[00:17:37] But just saying...

[00:17:38] Follow yourselves!

[00:17:39] Follow yourselves!

[00:17:43] But yeah, dude, like...

[00:17:46] I...

[00:17:48] I...

[00:17:48] I don't...

[00:17:48] I didn't care for that.

[00:17:50] But man, that's the whole...

[00:17:51] That's the whole talk for another thing.

[00:17:52] Because we'd be here another hour or two talking about...

[00:17:54] Yeah, all good.

[00:17:56] But man, like, again, I've enjoyed this.

[00:17:58] We need to do another one soon, man.

[00:18:01] Another...

[00:18:02] Either 24 or Power.

[00:18:04] Actually, we can do Power next, man.

[00:18:06] Sure.

[00:18:07] I...

[00:18:08] We can talk about our favorite moments.

[00:18:10] Just from that.

[00:18:11] I'll definitely try to get caught up on it even more.

[00:18:15] So you're still on the main show, right?

[00:18:17] Oh, no.

[00:18:17] I saw the main show back-to-back on Hulu.

[00:18:20] And I just...

[00:18:22] I need to go through season two and three of book two and start book four.

[00:18:28] I started book three but did not finish that because then I got insomnia and that fucked everything up.

[00:18:36] Power fours?

[00:18:37] I like Tommy's story.

[00:18:38] They're all good to play.

[00:18:39] Yeah, we need to do one.

[00:18:40] Just go...

[00:18:40] They're very much like the Law and Orders.

[00:18:42] They just got Shakespearean themes.

[00:18:44] They got...

[00:18:45] I like how they utilize New York.

[00:18:48] I like how...

[00:18:49] I like how...

[00:18:50] Tommy's one, they expand to Chicago.

[00:18:53] So that's pretty cool, different new lines.

[00:18:55] Oh, sweet.

[00:18:56] Because...

[00:18:57] And they got a good sense of time and everything.

[00:18:59] I like how Ghost, he wants to keep his business as legit as he can.

[00:19:03] And yet the Serbians and all the other ones keep screwing it up for him.

[00:19:07] I'd say like we need to like the next time we get together, we need to just do one over power.

[00:19:12] And then we can do exactly...

[00:19:13] Because of that...

[00:19:14] Promise me.

[00:19:16] Well, and because...

[00:19:18] I mean...

[00:19:19] As you said it before, you know, it's just like...

[00:19:22] When you're seeing how these characters are ticking and they're...

[00:19:26] It's more than just what's on the page, how it's being performed.

[00:19:29] You know, it's like that's a good show.

[00:19:30] Like The Wire, they do a good job of showing...

[00:19:33] You know, explaining why everyone's resorting to crime when...

[00:19:36] Even the people who are supposed to be monitoring this are concerned about their own so-called, you know, power.

[00:19:43] It's like...

[00:19:44] Okay.

[00:19:47] What's his name who...

[00:19:49] Steve Johnson plays...

[00:19:51] The one crooked assistant DA guy who's...

[00:19:57] I'm just like...

[00:19:58] I'm just like...

[00:20:00] James.

[00:20:01] Dude.

[00:20:02] How are you still working here?

[00:20:07] And...

[00:20:07] But they had a good sense of time and everything and passing and...

[00:20:12] That same thing about how people in government right now, state and local.

[00:20:17] State, local.

[00:20:18] Bingo, yeah.

[00:20:18] This was coming out around the time of the Cuomo incident.

[00:20:21] I'm like, Jesus.

[00:20:22] And that was a hell of a way to start the episode.

[00:21:11] But Elvary is back for the billionth time.

[00:21:14] And we discussed...

[00:21:16] You know, long time coming.

[00:21:17] We were meaning to do a favorite moments of a movie or TV show franchise.

[00:21:22] And lo and behold, it was the ghost St. Patrick verse.

[00:21:26] You know, like...

[00:21:27] I'll be honest.

[00:21:27] Because we actually talked about doing 24 best moments for so long.

[00:21:31] I originally thought this was that episode.

[00:21:34] Because I've been wanting to do just something 24 with you for so long.

[00:21:37] I promise.

[00:21:38] It will.

[00:21:39] It will happen.

[00:21:40] It will happen.

[00:21:41] It will.

[00:21:42] I was kind of watching...

[00:21:43] I can do the closer.

[00:21:44] I can do all kinds of...

[00:21:46] Yeah, no.

[00:21:46] The closer...

[00:21:47] The closer was this.

[00:21:48] But that was my mom's show.

[00:21:50] That, like...

[00:21:51] What was it?

[00:21:51] Major Crimes after it?

[00:21:52] The spinoff?

[00:21:53] Yes.

[00:21:53] That was her shit, man.

[00:21:55] Like, if she were to do a podcast one day or something, she could talk your ear off about that shit.

[00:22:01] I just thought it was wild.

[00:22:02] Because it was like a mix between Homicide and then they had the Police Academy captain guy on there.

[00:22:07] So it was kind of funny at times.

[00:22:10] You know what?

[00:22:11] Like, he looks the same.

[00:22:12] Like, you know...

[00:22:13] He looks the same.

[00:22:14] And then they had all these...

[00:22:15] I thought...

[00:22:15] You know...

[00:22:16] He...

[00:22:17] I thought he was an older man in...

[00:22:19] Look at the Academy.

[00:22:21] But I was a kid watching that.

[00:22:22] And I didn't realize at the time...

[00:22:24] You can have...

[00:22:24] He was just off St. Elsewhere with Denzel.

[00:22:26] Yeah, but I mean...

[00:22:27] But I just...

[00:22:28] I didn't know at the time.

[00:22:29] You know, you can naturally grade...

[00:22:33] Like, he just grade at a very young age.

[00:22:36] And she's like...

[00:22:37] Oh, so...

[00:22:38] I didn't know that.

[00:22:38] I thought he was old then.

[00:22:40] I was like...

[00:22:40] Damn, dude.

[00:22:41] Does this dude ever age?

[00:22:42] He came a little late.

[00:22:44] Some of them still have that look.

[00:22:46] Yeah.

[00:22:47] He came a little late.

[00:22:47] But he looks damn insane.

[00:22:49] I was back in the 80s.

[00:22:50] And this is 2000 and what?

[00:22:52] Yeah.

[00:22:53] We did a special on The Shield.

[00:22:55] And that was great.

[00:22:56] Because we got to talk about...

[00:22:58] What moment just like broke us.

[00:23:00] Where the show becomes a horror show.

[00:23:04] And...

[00:23:04] Where it becomes a political thriller.

[00:23:06] Where it becomes a heist show.

[00:23:07] So I applaud anybody who wants to...

[00:23:09] Mess with different elements.

[00:23:11] Instead of just relying on...

[00:23:13] Did we get the season pickup?

[00:23:14] You know?

[00:23:17] Yeah.

[00:23:18] Power, I was late too.

[00:23:19] Like, I was maybe...

[00:23:20] Maybe...

[00:23:21] I love Power, man.

[00:23:22] Like, you know...

[00:23:23] I was four years in, I think.

[00:23:25] And was on Hulu already.

[00:23:27] And I was like, I gotta take the binge.

[00:23:29] Our pal Ruby.

[00:23:31] She's talking about it.

[00:23:32] It must be good.

[00:23:33] You know what?

[00:23:34] I literally...

[00:23:35] So I...

[00:23:35] I literally watched Power the day it premiered.

[00:23:38] And I watched it the day it ended.

[00:23:41] Man.

[00:23:42] You know, like it...

[00:23:47] I used to watch...

[00:23:49] That was during a period where stars had a lot of shows.

[00:23:52] Those I used to watch.

[00:23:53] Like, Spark.

[00:23:54] Yeah.

[00:23:55] They had hired one of the former VPs of HBO.

[00:23:59] So they were trying to get some of that same kind of shows.

[00:24:02] Like, The Sopranos and Wire on their network now.

[00:24:05] You know, they had...

[00:24:06] You know, they had...

[00:24:07] Like I said, Spark was brilliant.

[00:24:09] Even after Andy died.

[00:24:12] Rest in peace.

[00:24:13] I think Liam...

[00:24:15] Like, um...

[00:24:17] I met Manu Bennett at a convention a couple years ago.

[00:24:20] What?

[00:24:21] Yeah.

[00:24:22] And we had a discussion.

[00:24:23] And we both were on the same...

[00:24:25] I mean, most...

[00:24:26] You could tell.

[00:24:27] Like, when Liam came in to season two to take over for Andy when his cancer...

[00:24:35] Uh...

[00:24:35] He went into a home after it came back.

[00:24:38] He had recurrence.

[00:24:40] Um...

[00:24:41] You know, you could see in season two that he was still...

[00:24:44] You know, he'd taken over a role from an actor.

[00:24:47] He did a fantastic job.

[00:24:49] I mean, if Andy Whitfield hadn't died, he would be a fucking...

[00:24:52] I truly believe he would be a top star right now.

[00:24:55] He was that damn good of an actor.

[00:24:57] I could see him getting on some other big spectacle.

[00:25:01] And...

[00:25:02] We talked before how Starz had some bullshit when they first started.

[00:25:05] Where they're like, oh, Ash vs. Evil Dead doesn't have good ratings.

[00:25:08] You're like, no.

[00:25:09] You just have a change in Vice President.

[00:25:13] Yeah, but...

[00:25:14] But I do understand, too, to a point.

[00:25:18] Um...

[00:25:19] You know...

[00:25:20] It did have a good...

[00:25:22] The ratings weren't low because it was a bad show.

[00:25:25] He did have a lot of people illegally pirating the show.

[00:25:28] I mean, Bruce Campbell even...

[00:25:30] It couldn't have been more than Game of Thrones, though, right?

[00:25:33] Ah, dude.

[00:25:34] That, if I remember correctly, at one point, that was like one of the most top pirated shows.

[00:25:41] Ash vs. Evil Dead.

[00:25:43] Yeah.

[00:25:44] And like, I mean, even Bruce Campbell came out with a message saying like, guys, stop pirating the show.

[00:25:49] Like, if you know this show gets canceled, I'm done with the character after that.

[00:25:56] I mean...

[00:25:56] I don't know.

[00:25:57] I look at it from a tech thing.

[00:25:58] If people are stealing it, it must be good.

[00:26:00] But at the same time, maybe the prices are just abysmal.

[00:26:04] Keep in mind, though.

[00:26:06] I mean, it's...

[00:26:06] It's crazy.

[00:26:07] I mean, ratings...

[00:26:09] It is with streaming.

[00:26:11] Keep in mind, this is...

[00:26:13] Ash vs. Evil Dead was out before...

[00:26:16] It had Netflix, right?

[00:26:18] Amazon was really kind of, you know, starting to kind of maybe pop off at the time.

[00:26:22] But it was really...

[00:26:24] It was prior to Disney+, prior to all these other...

[00:26:28] For a streaming, yeah.

[00:26:30] And it was just a weird year in general for shows.

[00:26:33] Like, all of them are trying to be edgy, but they're also trying to be their own thing,

[00:26:39] as opposed to be accused of, you're trying to be the next Breaking Bad.

[00:26:42] And so I see...

[00:26:43] This show kept getting some advertisements.

[00:26:45] It had a lot of...

[00:26:46] Sorry, go ahead.

[00:26:48] Think about it, though.

[00:26:49] The early 2000s, man.

[00:26:51] I mean, it said we are in our...

[00:26:53] Technically, we still are in a golden era of television writing, for the most part.

[00:27:00] But, you know, think about it, man.

[00:27:01] The early 2000s and the late 90s, early 2000s really set the tone.

[00:27:06] Like, Oz on HBO.

[00:27:08] Yes.

[00:27:09] I feel like many shows do a homage to it, or exist partially because of that whole, like,

[00:27:16] have an ensemble.

[00:27:18] For the wire, Oz was there.

[00:27:20] You know, Oz was like Oz.

[00:27:22] And then, like, I was watching that show as a kid when, damn, damn well, no, I probably...

[00:27:26] I shouldn't have been watching that show.

[00:27:28] Many of us, yeah, were watching stuff we shouldn't have had back then.

[00:27:31] But I feel like Oz and even The Shield opened up the whole, have an ensemble of characters,

[00:27:37] and by the end of it, you're going to realize why they're so messed up.

[00:27:41] Yeah, my mom was a fan of The Shield before I even got into it, man.

[00:27:45] Nice.

[00:27:46] When I was little, me and her used to watch in the early 90s when Chickliss was doing the

[00:27:51] commish.

[00:27:53] Oh, nice.

[00:27:54] So you saw him back when he was a good cop.

[00:27:57] We were like, we would watch the show together religiously when I was little when we lived

[00:28:02] in New Jersey.

[00:28:04] You know, that's the first time I ever saw Michael Chickliss.

[00:28:06] But yeah, that is the great thing.

[00:28:08] Doing horrific things.

[00:28:10] Yeah, you know, The Mist was like his little breakout thing back in the 90s, playing this

[00:28:14] good, wholesome kind of type of cop dude.

[00:28:16] Then The Shield, dirty ass Vic Mackey, man, fucking, that brings his career back.

[00:28:25] I don't want to say brings his career back.

[00:28:26] I hate saying that to actors.

[00:28:29] It adds a new chapter to his career.

[00:28:30] It made him relevant.

[00:28:32] Yeah, it made him show.

[00:28:33] It had a new chapter to his career.

[00:28:35] I mean, he had, around that time, he had The Shield.

[00:28:38] You know, he was the thing.

[00:28:40] I mean, even though maybe people don't look too fondly on the Fantastic Four films of that

[00:28:45] era, but those were big movies for that period.

[00:28:49] You know, and...

[00:28:50] And he found a way to be part of an ensemble as opposed to always,

[00:28:54] as, could I be the main guy?

[00:28:56] And...

[00:28:56] Yeah, you know, and so...

[00:28:57] But like, going back to what I was saying, you know, The Shield, you know, you had Oz,

[00:29:02] you had Sopranos, The Wire, The Shield, you know.

[00:29:06] The Shield showed you that you could do a very TVMA dark type drama on basic...

[00:29:12] Yeah, for your audience, yep.

[00:29:14] Yeah, while these other shows were, you know, HBO...

[00:29:17] We had other shows being edgy, but they were getting...

[00:29:20] Yeah, but the...

[00:29:21] Like, they would do...

[00:29:23] Everything would play after 10 o'clock just so they wouldn't be sued by the FCC, like

[00:29:28] X-Files and NYP, you know, so...

[00:29:30] Yeah, but like, The Shield was just a...

[00:29:32] Because it's literally a show from the...

[00:29:34] The protagonist is the antagonist.

[00:29:38] You know what I mean?

[00:29:39] Absolutely, yeah.

[00:29:40] Like, you're seeing a...

[00:29:43] I mean, Nick...

[00:29:44] I mean, some...

[00:29:45] I don't know if he really...

[00:29:47] Maybe he's an anti-hero.

[00:29:49] I don't know if you really call him an anti-hero.

[00:29:50] I knew he was a villain from day one, but I just figured...

[00:29:53] He's a...

[00:29:54] He's like many of the...

[00:29:56] Go ahead.

[00:29:58] Oh, he's an antagonist pretending to be a protagonist.

[00:30:01] He really...

[00:30:02] Those are the best characters.

[00:30:04] Well, like Walter White, yeah, who was actually inspired by him.

[00:30:07] I mean, just, yeah, he lies to himself enough times, he starts believing it.

[00:30:12] Yeah, and those make the best villains.

[00:30:13] They actually believe their shit.

[00:30:15] Yeah, as opposed to Tony, who does care about his family, but he's just also a shithead after killing people all day.

[00:30:22] So, yeah, it's just...

[00:30:24] I saw where he came from.

[00:30:25] I mean, his parents were...

[00:30:27] I mean, the answer was that the film, the prequel film wasn't that good.

[00:30:33] Oh, it was awful.

[00:30:35] Here's the one thing that...

[00:30:37] Here's what Power did well, but the Sopranos prequel film did bad.

[00:30:42] Like, Power sets up, is like, already...

[00:30:46] I think it's a good pilot, because it, like, shows us...

[00:30:49] Okay.

[00:30:50] He's...

[00:30:50] You know what characters are.

[00:30:52] You know that, and he's got a technically legit lifestyle.

[00:30:56] He's got a club that's had some problems.

[00:30:59] He's left most of his hood life behind, but every once in a while, he has to do business with colorful people who, you know, have, like, crime underworld connections.

[00:31:09] But most of them Serbian or...

[00:31:12] Part of the...

[00:31:13] Part of the...

[00:31:14] In the beginning, most of the...

[00:31:16] Most of the people he fucked with were, you know...

[00:31:18] In, like, in the first season in particular, in the beginning, you meet the locals, right?

[00:31:24] You know, you meet his crew.

[00:31:25] You know, the crews, and as things, you know, expand, you know, you start meeting the Serbians.

[00:31:33] You got the fucking...

[00:31:34] Yeah, the Russians are also got a cannibal henchman, yeah.

[00:31:38] And...

[00:31:40] It is, right?

[00:31:42] Unlike Ray Donovan, which kind of becomes a guy's fantasy after a while, where you're like, oh, good grief, dude.

[00:31:48] Get over yourself.

[00:31:49] But, like, with power, I like how they just throw it all out front and center.

[00:31:54] They're like, and by the way, some of these prosecutors are career-minded, and they're going to break the law just to further their so-called power.

[00:32:03] He's got an unfaithful wife, and that's okay, because he's technically in love with his high school sweetheart, who's also an ADA.

[00:32:12] So, yeah.

[00:32:13] Yeah.

[00:32:14] I mean, like, thinking about, like, you know, power, right?

[00:32:17] Like, oh, with Ghost, or, you know, or, you know, Jamie, or James.

[00:32:23] St. Patrick.

[00:32:23] Yeah, I love him, too.

[00:32:24] He's just very charismatic.

[00:32:25] I like how he doesn't even rely on narration for the most part.

[00:32:29] He's just like, oh, what am I getting myself into today?

[00:32:33] He just walks in and gets his suit.

[00:32:36] Really good with subtext and just, you know.

[00:32:39] The camera loves him.

[00:32:41] Yeah, and he's good with subtext.

[00:32:42] The camera absolutely loves him.

[00:32:44] You know, he knows how to play.

[00:32:47] You know, he knows the character.

[00:32:49] What he did with that character, man.

[00:32:51] And, you know, we had this discussion during Alter Carbon when we did.

[00:32:57] Yep, yep.

[00:32:58] But he didn't necessarily get it.

[00:33:01] He didn't really go see his interviews of late.

[00:33:04] You know, he loved the role.

[00:33:06] He loved the character.

[00:33:07] But, you know, he still felt like he didn't get all the due respect from certain people, you know, behind the scenes.

[00:33:16] Yeah.

[00:33:17] Because, like, that was, like, according to that show, like, according to his interview, and this is, you can look this stuff up, you know.

[00:33:25] Like, Stars had, they kept, they had two, like, two or three, like, two shows they had.

[00:33:35] And they took a chance on power.

[00:33:36] They weren't really known for it other than occasional stuff like fantasy and mockumentary shows and documentaries.

[00:33:43] Yeah, it was.

[00:33:45] I don't know what the show was.

[00:33:46] You didn't say it.

[00:33:47] But, like, there was another show that kind of was, like, maybe, like, I guess with the casting and the story.

[00:33:52] I'd say Magic City and Da Vinci's.

[00:33:54] But pretty much, but pretty much Spartacus was what really started it.

[00:34:01] And this was, like, the second one.

[00:34:03] Spartacus was what really started their, uh, Stars, you know, it was their first big thing.

[00:34:12] And, again, that's, you had, uh, what was it, uh, Sean the Knight?

[00:34:18] Who did, was it Sean, Sean as Knight?

[00:34:21] Who was the producer, uh, showrunner of that?

[00:34:24] You know, he has, uh, from memory, if it's the right Knight, I'm thinking of.

[00:34:29] I don't know, actually.

[00:34:31] I, I, I know about Courtney Kim on Power.

[00:34:34] And she was basically the showrunner.

[00:34:38] And, uh.

[00:34:39] Oh, yeah.

[00:34:40] Yeah, she did a damn good job.

[00:34:41] It just was the money man.

[00:34:43] He brought in some of his guys at Lionsgate.

[00:34:45] But then CBS stepped in to co-produce some of the spinoffs slash prequels.

[00:34:51] So I'm like, okay, this is getting, this is intense.

[00:34:54] This is, this is.

[00:34:56] And like you said, like, you know, they had another show.

[00:34:59] Spinoffs don't just happen.

[00:35:00] You know, most people really love the vision.

[00:35:03] Oh, but they took that risk on Power instead.

[00:35:07] And, um.

[00:35:08] It was the highest viewed show since The Wire.

[00:35:11] You know, I'm like, in the black demographic.

[00:35:13] I'm like, see, that's saying something.

[00:35:15] But it's, I think it just reminds me very much of like, kind of why Suits and Yellowstone were kind of big spectacles.

[00:35:23] Even Ozark.

[00:35:24] They're all.

[00:35:27] They're all very comfortable with their crime drama.

[00:35:33] But they're also trying to.

[00:35:35] Instead of just trying to emulate what else was cool 10, five years ago.

[00:35:39] They're all like, it just gets into the nuts and bolts.

[00:35:42] It's like, here's what's happening.

[00:35:43] Sucks, man.

[00:35:44] Like, you know, that's like, you know, that's like.

[00:35:47] You know, the Rockefellers type thing, you know.

[00:35:52] You're seeing this crime and this, you know, those like, you know, political heads type fund people like that.

[00:36:00] You know, you're seeing it.

[00:36:01] Criminal life and the shit from that point of view.

[00:36:04] You know, we're all.

[00:36:06] You know.

[00:36:09] We're all right.

[00:36:09] This is in New York as opposed to Baltimore.

[00:36:12] So, I mean, like, I didn't know how they were going to go about it.

[00:36:15] Everything.

[00:36:16] Before you really get back in the power, like going back to like, we'll kind of create like this, you know, era of these type of stories.

[00:36:23] Everything goes back to, you know, like I said, Oz.

[00:36:27] For me, people don't really talk about Oz as much as they should.

[00:36:30] I don't know why either.

[00:36:31] I'm like.

[00:36:32] It's like they stop at great acting.

[00:36:35] I'm like, it's more than just great acting.

[00:36:37] Yeah.

[00:36:38] It's just like.

[00:36:39] All those themes.

[00:36:40] All those.

[00:36:41] For me, Oz is basically Tales from the Crypt 2.0.

[00:36:45] You have this anthology of different people who, except they interact and they're recurring, but you just get all these tragic flashbacks just to find out why they're so messed up.

[00:36:56] Oh, yeah.

[00:36:57] I mean, like, in that, I love, you know, again, like Oz, Sopranos, and The Wire are, you know, those three shows.

[00:37:08] I mean, in that.

[00:37:09] The Wire.

[00:37:09] I mean, The Shield kind of got in the whole brisk energy while also showing how criminals get an ego and it just all goes downhill from there.

[00:37:21] Like, one false move.

[00:37:23] The Wire kind of introduced me to the whole, the cake is a lie.

[00:37:26] Like, here's what's wrong with this education system.

[00:37:30] Here's what's wrong with this police enforcement.

[00:37:33] And here's what's causing all these turf wars that are in drug trade.

[00:37:38] You're just like.

[00:37:39] You can break it down like this, right?

[00:37:40] Like, you know, The Wire is about, you know, all that stuff you just said.

[00:37:47] While Oz basically is kind of the show that shows you the ramifications and the aftermath of the things about on the outside.

[00:37:56] Now you see what happens when that should happen to people inside.

[00:38:00] And there's so much revenge.

[00:38:02] And you understand why they want revenge.

[00:38:05] Because it's just.

[00:38:06] You have to understand, too, like, prison is not just a place where people.

[00:38:13] It's a danger to everyone.

[00:38:15] But no, like, it's a whole.

[00:38:17] It is a society.

[00:38:18] Prison.

[00:38:19] When you're in a maximum, you know, security prison or any type of, you know, big tech.

[00:38:25] The Waving County fucking jail.

[00:38:27] It's a.

[00:38:28] It is a society within society.

[00:38:31] He has his own rules.

[00:38:32] His own laws.

[00:38:34] You have to abide by.

[00:38:35] Are you going to get fucked over?

[00:38:36] Even though they don't make any sense at the time.

[00:38:39] He's like.

[00:38:41] It's not about.

[00:38:42] Yeah.

[00:38:43] On to us on the outside.

[00:38:45] And, you know, in our everyday life in society.

[00:38:48] No, these rules don't make sense.

[00:38:50] Like, I'm going to take a real life.

[00:38:52] You know, take motorcycle clothes.

[00:38:55] Right.

[00:38:55] Outlaw motorcycle clothes.

[00:38:56] And we got to do episode on Southern America.

[00:38:58] That's my shit, too.

[00:38:59] But.

[00:39:01] Yes.

[00:39:02] But, you know, people always ask, you know, why are, like, the Hell's Angels, like, mostly only white people, only white people?

[00:39:09] You know, why are these, you know, these motorcycle clubs segregated like that?

[00:39:15] You know, it's nothing to do with MC culture on the outside.

[00:39:19] It all comes from when they get locked up and went to prison.

[00:39:23] Like, all that shit.

[00:39:23] And, again, it's a whole nother society with different rules.

[00:39:28] How to live and survive.

[00:39:30] So, yeah, it's on the outside.

[00:39:32] It was completely stupid at times.

[00:39:34] But that's how you get through how you survive.

[00:39:37] And sometimes you're in that society mixing with these people for so long, going to live by these rules when you come outside.

[00:39:45] Brainwashed a certain way.

[00:39:46] You know, there's a reason why recidivism rates are so high, you know.

[00:39:52] Particularly for people who've been in jail for a long time.

[00:39:54] They've been there for so long, living under these rules.

[00:39:56] It's like, we're Americans.

[00:39:58] We move to another country with different laws and all that stuff.

[00:40:01] We have to learn to assimilate to their culture and their laws.

[00:40:05] It's not always easy.

[00:40:06] Same thing when you come out of prison.

[00:40:08] You've got to assimilate back into society.

[00:40:10] And your brain, again, brainwashed or, you know, you've just been locked up for so long.

[00:40:16] Going through all this shit.

[00:40:17] It's hard.

[00:40:18] So sometimes people do shit to go back to jail because they can't survive out.

[00:40:22] You know, going back to Oz and stuff shows like that.

[00:40:27] You know, Oz shows you, like, once you're taken out of society, you know, and thrown into prison, it's completely different.

[00:40:36] Let's go back to power.

[00:40:38] Remember when James got locked up in season five?

[00:40:42] He's a whole different.

[00:40:43] Actually, yeah.

[00:40:44] Yeah.

[00:40:45] At the end of season four and then, yeah, with five.

[00:40:47] And you're like, how is he going to get out?

[00:40:49] Yeah.

[00:40:50] Part of season five, he was in jail.

[00:40:52] Then Teresi, you know, that helped him get out.

[00:40:55] Then he was just trying to fuck our snitch on him.

[00:41:00] But, you know, when you see James in prison, man, he's a character who is always in control, right?

[00:41:06] He's always making moves, always thinking two steps forward.

[00:41:12] Everybody.

[00:41:12] When he's in jail, think about that phone call when he calls Tommy up, man.

[00:41:16] And he's fucking, he's distraught and he's not in his element, right?

[00:41:22] Yeah.

[00:41:22] We've got Charlie Murphy, God rest his soul, his last final one.

[00:41:26] He was great as one of the prison guards.

[00:41:27] I loved how it was more than just, let's get whoever's a New York actor who's in everything.

[00:41:33] Let's get more than just some other comedians and rap stars.

[00:41:39] It was a great cast of unknowns mixed in with semi-knowns.

[00:41:43] Like, you had Tommy's dad being played by Bill Sadler, who's a good actor.

[00:41:46] I love him since I was a little fucking kid, man.

[00:41:50] I love him.

[00:41:50] Nice.

[00:41:52] He's been in everything.

[00:41:54] But, I mean, just that, it had an interesting set of animosities.

[00:42:00] No matter what, he'll always be death to me from Bill and Ted.

[00:42:07] But, yeah, dude, I mean, and again, that's, that whole arc in the first part of season five showcases just what I just talked about with Oz, you know, our district prison life in general.

[00:42:19] You showcase and you're in a new society, different rules.

[00:42:23] Mm-hmm.

[00:42:24] Survive.

[00:42:25] Sometimes, you know, a lot of people, you know, when people go to jail, like, when they join prison gangs, they don't do it because they want to.

[00:42:31] They do it because if I don't, I'm most likely going to get killed.

[00:42:35] Yeah.

[00:42:36] Or turn.

[00:42:36] It really is do or die.

[00:42:38] Yeah, exactly.

[00:42:39] You know, I've met people in real life who were, like, in prison, like, Aaron Brotherhood type stuff in jail.

[00:42:47] But when they get out, no, I ain't with that shit, man.

[00:42:49] I did that shit to live because, you know, motherfuckers kill you.

[00:42:52] I mean, or fuck you over.

[00:42:55] It's like having a gun to your head, but.

[00:42:58] Exactly.

[00:42:59] Now you have to use that gun to shoot someone.

[00:43:01] You can't bite them back like they got you in a stomach.

[00:43:05] Yeah, I mean, and, you know, I'm not condoning you.

[00:43:07] I'm not saying it's right, but that's just the way it is, man.

[00:43:10] If you're trying to get out of there and get back home.

[00:43:12] If fear is used, especially that early on, that's, you're always having over your shoulder.

[00:43:17] Exactly.

[00:43:18] So, I mean, do you want to do your time and get out of there and get back to your, you know, people you care for, get back to your actual real life?

[00:43:24] Or do you, you know, you want to get killed or fucked over or killed in there?

[00:43:29] You know, I don't know, but that's just the way it is.

[00:43:32] And that's what, again, you see that in power in that fifth season with ghosts in jail for that bit on that murder charge.

[00:43:41] And you're seeing how he's interacting with different people in the prison.

[00:43:45] You see he's very quiet, very reserved to himself because he's never been in that situation.

[00:43:50] Yeah.

[00:43:51] That's the first time he totally, truly lost control of everything.

[00:43:57] That's what's really cool, too.

[00:43:59] I'm glad you opened up with that moment because, like, that just showed how the show was not going to play it safe.

[00:44:05] It wasn't just going to be, you know, season one, he's smarter than the average bear.

[00:44:12] Yeah, I mean.

[00:44:13] Tommy helps out.

[00:44:15] Boom.

[00:44:15] Cool.

[00:44:17] And it's just a great character trajectory.

[00:44:21] You know, again, season one, you know who he is.

[00:44:25] You know what he's about.

[00:44:26] You see.

[00:44:27] He legit loves his kids, but they're becoming targets, and that's not cool.

[00:44:32] And that sets him off on a darker path.

[00:44:35] Tommy, unfortunately, is being hunted by his ex-girlfriend who's, you know, the ADA.

[00:44:42] So you're just like, uh-oh, this is, something's going to conflate.

[00:44:46] Someone's going to step on another person's toes here.

[00:44:49] Tommy's my favorite character in the Power of the Universe.

[00:44:52] I love fucking Tommy, man.

[00:44:53] Like, that is.

[00:44:54] Oh, that's what's wild, too, is like, he did, they both did unforgivable things to each other,

[00:44:59] and then you're like, but at the same time, they're still friends at the end of the day,

[00:45:03] and you're like, that.

[00:45:04] I mean, like, yeah, after he kills.

[00:45:08] Angela.

[00:45:09] I'm like, no.

[00:45:11] You know, like.

[00:45:12] And what a way to end a season, just that, looking at how he looks towards the camera,

[00:45:17] and you're like.

[00:45:18] You do, like, the scream is like, that's the scream of pain and rage.

[00:45:25] And he had just told her another lie, saying, by the way, I'm not involved in, you know,

[00:45:31] crime.

[00:45:31] But then he takes the shot, and you're like, oh, fuck.

[00:45:36] Like, yeah.

[00:45:37] Like, you know, she, you know, that bullet was meant for him.

[00:45:40] She literally gave her life for him.

[00:45:42] Oh, that's right.

[00:45:43] Yeah, he was.

[00:45:45] That was, he was aiming for him, and she hadn't moved him out the way.

[00:45:48] Ghostly got killed right there and there.

[00:45:50] She literally died for him.

[00:45:51] And, you know, like, when he's going to war with Tommy, that next, beginning of the next

[00:45:59] season, you know, you know, he, like, it's funny with those two.

[00:46:03] Like, even after he killed Angela.

[00:46:05] They know each other's moves, just because that's what happens when your childhood friends,

[00:46:09] you, you know each other too well.

[00:46:12] I'm thinking about the scene where he, like, he creeps in, like, he's in Tommy's apartment,

[00:46:17] his, his loft apartment, and Tommy comes home, and he's looking around for everything, and

[00:46:25] ghosts come out of nowhere.

[00:46:26] They start beating the shit out of each other, and Tommy's like, that's when, like, they,

[00:46:30] it's revealed that, you know, Tommy knows that, that ghost lied about Teresi.

[00:46:37] Well, he didn't really lie about Teresi, he just, he, but he manipulated Tommy to do it.

[00:46:43] Yeah, he lied about him, who he was snitching on.

[00:46:46] Yeah, he was.

[00:46:47] He was a rat, and you can't trust a fucking rat, period.

[00:46:51] Uh, but, you know, he wasn't ratting on him, he was ratting on him.

[00:46:55] But yeah, Teresi, for those who don't know, is, yeah, Bill Sadler, Tommy's dad, you know.

[00:47:00] And I'm glad they introduced that, because you were, we kept hearing about him, we were like,

[00:47:05] I wonder how he got to this place, like.

[00:47:08] If you look at, like, you know, from day one, when we meet Tommy's mother, you automatically

[00:47:13] see why this guy is fucked up.

[00:47:17] True, Mercedes role, yeah.

[00:47:19] Yeah, like, she does a great job playing his mom, like, uh, you meet his mom's dude, you

[00:47:25] know, from the get-go, why this dude is fucked up.

[00:47:29] Like, you know, like, uh, she loves ghosts more than, she loves ghosts more than she loves

[00:47:38] Tommy.

[00:47:38] But now, but when you go, like, to skip over forward to the future, the forest, Tommy's

[00:47:44] show, finding out that she actually had a black, a mixed son that was black, but gave

[00:47:51] it away.

[00:47:51] You can kind of understand why she loved ghosts more, it's like she was kind of making up

[00:47:57] in her own fucked up drug out of the way of giving away her black son by loving on ghosts.

[00:48:04] That's true, too.

[00:48:05] And I think that's what I, why I took off with this really.

[00:48:10] Yeah, once they revealed that on Force that, oh, he has a brother that's black, and she gave

[00:48:16] him up because her parents were racist and shit.

[00:48:18] And, um, oh, I'm looking forward to this then.

[00:48:21] I, I was like, oh, I was like, oh, that explains her doting on ghosts so much over Tommy.

[00:48:30] Um, Tommy said it, you love that ghost more than me.

[00:48:35] Uh, you're the son I want.

[00:48:38] Yeah.

[00:48:39] She basically said what she thought when ghosts dies, you know, she thinks that Tommy killed

[00:48:44] him.

[00:48:44] She's like, she, she basically disowns him and basically says, you know, you killed him

[00:48:49] like he was a better son than you to a degree.

[00:48:52] It was like, uh, so again, like, I just love that.

[00:48:55] Like they never actually said that on the show, but I mean, if you put two and two together,

[00:49:00] then we're both film people.

[00:49:01] So, you know, we actually, you know, look at film the same way as other people, man.

[00:49:05] They literally tell us, remember, that's one of the first thing they teach you in film

[00:49:09] class.

[00:49:09] Uh, you will never look at films the same way after you, after you become a film student.

[00:49:13] You just, it's just, you can't.

[00:49:15] Well, and.

[00:49:16] Just, you go, you analyze film more than you enjoy to a degree.

[00:49:20] Um.

[00:49:22] Which is fine.

[00:49:23] I, I, all I ask is that everybody just have some patience with each other is like, okay,

[00:49:29] I don't like that kind of movie, but I'm glad you love it.

[00:49:31] Don't ruin it for him.

[00:49:32] But at the same time, yeah.

[00:49:33] I mean, we are going to see just a few things that is like, okay, I, I've seen too many

[00:49:40] movies, so I just know what's going to happen in the next five minutes.

[00:49:44] Like, uh, like Terrence, man.

[00:49:46] I love being my friend Terrence.

[00:49:47] I work with on my film project.

[00:49:50] He loves horror like me, but he hates comedies.

[00:49:54] Like, like I've been like the past, most of the stuff I've written lately besides the,

[00:49:58] the.

[00:50:00] Web series I'm working on.

[00:50:04] Uh, I mean, we're in comedies, you know, I've written like, uh, two comedies for like this

[00:50:12] collab group I'm part of.

[00:50:14] And then after this Janice stuff is over, I've had this comedy stuff I'm going to want to

[00:50:19] work on forever.

[00:50:20] I just got to finish the Janice stuff first.

[00:50:22] If you're this passionate about it, it's, you're already on the right path, you know?

[00:50:27] I call it like the three stooges meets Shameless.

[00:50:30] That's how I describe it.

[00:50:31] Oh, nice.

[00:50:34] So I'm, I'm in eager to get on that.

[00:50:37] And I kind of have a knack for comedy.

[00:50:39] Um, just the reception for my stories so far.

[00:50:42] Uh, but I mean, I just like to write in general.

[00:50:46] Comedy, art, I just love to write.

[00:50:48] But, um, but yeah, you know, he hates comedy.

[00:50:54] Like he, did you see Wolverine and Deadpool?

[00:50:56] Not yet.

[00:50:58] Loved it.

[00:50:59] It's hilarious.

[00:50:59] He didn't like it, but that's not his brand of comedy.

[00:51:02] But you know, that's, that's, you know, like you were saying, you know, filmmakers, you

[00:51:06] know, but people in general, some people just don't.

[00:51:09] I, my mom, her winner, I love, grew up loving Jim Carrey.

[00:51:12] Well, my mom's best friend at the time when I was a kid, she hated Jim Carrey with a passion.

[00:51:18] I just fucking hate the guy.

[00:51:21] Um, and you know, he hated Jim Carrey on the set of Batman.

[00:51:24] I remember hearing that story.

[00:51:26] I'm like, what?

[00:51:27] It's Jim Carrey, dude.

[00:51:29] He just didn't get, get him in his comedy.

[00:51:31] He fucking hated him.

[00:51:32] I find with certain filmmakers, based on how you're introduced to them kind of determines

[00:51:36] whether you find them overrated or not.

[00:51:37] But at the same time, it's like, you should still see like far more by them.

[00:51:41] Actors are another tricky bunch.

[00:51:43] Which, with genres, I think the other issue is those change so much that half the time

[00:51:48] people don't realize, well, you actually do like horror.

[00:51:51] Well, you have seen a few action movies you did actually like, you know.

[00:51:54] Yeah, horror, right?

[00:51:55] I mean, every genre has subgenre.

[00:51:57] You have horror, you have slasher horror.

[00:52:00] Mystery.

[00:52:01] It's like.

[00:52:02] You have, you know, supernatural.

[00:52:03] You have.

[00:52:04] Yeah.

[00:52:05] Home invasion.

[00:52:06] It's like.

[00:52:06] Home invasion stuff, you know.

[00:52:09] So, you know, comedy.

[00:52:12] You have your sophomore comedy.

[00:52:14] You have your kid comedy.

[00:52:15] You have your adult type comedy.

[00:52:16] There's funny moments that kind of make a movie better.

[00:52:20] Even if it's not a straight on comedy, there might be a dark comedy element to it.

[00:52:25] Yeah.

[00:52:25] Dark comedy.

[00:52:26] Another is a subgenre of comedy.

[00:52:30] I mean, so, I mean, even genres have genres.

[00:52:33] I mean, so it's.

[00:52:34] Like for me, like I, I love the Saw films.

[00:52:39] They're great storytelling.

[00:52:42] I think that's a good example.

[00:52:44] I'm not a torture porn guy, but I am a horror guy.

[00:52:47] But that's cool.

[00:52:48] I love Saw, but the Terrifier.

[00:52:51] I can't.

[00:52:52] I can't stand those films because, yeah, it's great practical effects that they do.

[00:52:57] It's all old school.

[00:53:00] I love, but there's no fucking true story with these films.

[00:53:05] It's just the director has said he doesn't write films based on story.

[00:53:10] He writes them based on scenes.

[00:53:12] Ah, OK.

[00:53:14] So that feels like me.

[00:53:15] Yeah.

[00:53:16] Yeah.

[00:53:17] So I'm.

[00:53:18] I'm this way with action.

[00:53:19] People think, oh, Cam, you like action.

[00:53:21] Therefore, you like car chases.

[00:53:23] I'm like, I actually don't stand.

[00:53:25] Can't stand car chases because you take them out.

[00:53:27] But very little changes unless you made it part of the scene.

[00:53:31] I mean, Speed is the perfect example.

[00:53:33] That is the perfect one.

[00:53:34] The Die Hard movies, Terminator, even 24.

[00:53:37] Power has some legit grid car chases because like they're needed.

[00:53:41] Like you need it to get to next stage.

[00:53:44] Yeah.

[00:53:45] Maybe the night that Ghost gets killed.

[00:53:47] I love the scene when they when Tommy's almost there.

[00:53:50] He got hemmed up by those fucking the Italians.

[00:53:54] Oh, is this in book four?

[00:53:56] Oh, this is the last season of Power when when they're all converging on the club when Ghost gets killed.

[00:54:03] And you're trying to on Tommy's version of that story trying to figure out who shot Ghost.

[00:54:07] Remember when he's almost there to the club?

[00:54:09] If he hadn't got stopped by the fucking Italians, he would have got there before.

[00:54:13] Or what's his name?

[00:54:15] You know, shot his dad.

[00:54:17] Oh, that's true.

[00:54:18] Yeah.

[00:54:19] And I love the scene, though, because in that scene, like they got him locked off in the street.

[00:54:23] He pops the fucking trunk, put the car in neutral.

[00:54:26] Let's just creep down.

[00:54:27] He's using the car as a shield.

[00:54:29] Well, he's got that.

[00:54:30] His assault rifle is popping motherfuckers as he goes along.

[00:54:34] Like I just love shot.

[00:54:35] Like he's basically they got him pinned down.

[00:54:39] He's but Tommy's going to be Tommy.

[00:54:41] You don't have to straight up put a bullet in him to stop.

[00:54:44] They're all soldiers.

[00:54:46] Yeah.

[00:54:46] And I was fortunate enough to talk to Tondalea Jackson on the last Power chat.

[00:54:53] And she knew some people had worked on it and confirmed that, yeah, Tommy's gone for good.

[00:54:57] But that's why they did the prequel spinoff.

[00:54:59] But I talked to Craig Lindbergh, who actually used to do makeup on B-movies.

[00:55:06] And then once he got on bigger productions like War of the Worlds and I Am Legend, he was able to do a lot of makeup on all kinds of shows.

[00:55:13] Walking Dead, SNL and Power Book 2 was one of them.

[00:55:17] He hadn't seen any of the episodes.

[00:55:19] I was just saying, hey, there's some legit good makeup on this show.

[00:55:23] So, but yeah, the way Tommy is just so stealthy is great.

[00:55:28] But Ghost is also great, really.

[00:55:30] Well, Ghost is, when comes to stealth, I mean, he's called Ghost for a reason.

[00:55:34] Yeah.

[00:55:35] I mean, the way he kills Terry, he's just like, okay, I don't love my wife anymore, but I do care about her well-being.

[00:55:42] And I am not going to have one of my right-hand guys, you know, sleeping with her.

[00:55:47] Not cool.

[00:55:48] You know, that's not loyal to me.

[00:55:50] And so it's just so wild how he's able to, and he's able to convincingly lie too.

[00:55:55] I think that's the other thing.

[00:55:56] And once again, I am not condoning anything, but this is a whole story tell.

[00:56:03] So you instantly understand.

[00:56:05] It's like, yeah, if I was in his shoes, I'd probably lie too.

[00:56:08] Consider the best lies, right?

[00:56:10] Lies that are mixed with a bit of the truth.

[00:56:13] Right.

[00:56:14] Because if I say yes, then I'm going to jail and my kids will be picked on in school because they'll be like, hey, aren't you the, didn't your dad get prosecuted and sent to prison?

[00:56:24] I don't want that.

[00:56:25] And I, plus again, if you respect me, you're not going to cheat on someone I'm married to.

[00:56:33] I get to decide when that happens.

[00:56:36] But they kept it.

[00:56:37] I was so angry that ghost got killed.

[00:56:40] And then they still kept us in suspense.

[00:56:43] It's like, okay, we know he died, but how?

[00:56:46] Yeah, I mean, use the whole, you know, who shot J.R. type thing.

[00:56:51] It is a Dallas thing.

[00:56:54] It's not that fucking story type of storytelling.

[00:56:57] No, I know what you mean.

[00:56:59] I mean, that's what Yellowstone's doing.

[00:57:01] Who's going to take over his ranch and try and kick him out?

[00:57:04] And now he's governor.

[00:57:06] You know television.

[00:57:07] You know cinema history.

[00:57:09] Anytime that type of storytelling told on a show or something, somebody was a fan of Dallas.

[00:57:17] Because Dallas, I don't know if Dallas did it first, but they did the best.

[00:57:22] They popularized it probably.

[00:57:24] But it was either that or St. Elsewhere where it's all in his head.

[00:57:29] I don't remember if that season was done before I was born or when I was a baby.

[00:57:33] But, I mean, even I know, man.

[00:57:35] That was like one of the most.

[00:57:36] Everyone was talking about it.

[00:57:38] One of the most things during that year when that episode happened, who shot J.R.

[00:57:43] I mean, the Simpsons fucking did it in the 80s.

[00:57:47] That's right.

[00:57:49] That was the biggest fucking thing in the 90s.

[00:57:51] I remember being a kid.

[00:57:52] That was like, who the fuck, who shot Mr. Burns?

[00:57:54] Like, that was a big thing.

[00:57:56] How many times has Cancer Man supposedly died, but he's actually alive?

[00:57:59] I don't.

[00:57:59] Yeah.

[00:58:00] Bowler fucking ran with himself, man.

[00:58:03] Like, Bowler finally killed his ass.

[00:58:07] Isn't that funny?

[00:58:07] Right.

[00:58:08] Is Picard going to become a Borg?

[00:58:09] Nope.

[00:58:10] He's good.

[00:58:10] We can't kill our captain.

[00:58:13] Yeah, but me and like any, like, I know at the moment they did that, they were doing that for the latter half.

[00:58:18] Like, okay, I guess Kemp is a Dallas fan.

[00:58:22] But they did it good, though.

[00:58:24] Right.

[00:58:25] Before everyone was trying to just copy each other.

[00:58:28] And it's like, come on.

[00:58:29] You don't have this in the bag.

[00:58:30] It's not happening.

[00:58:33] I still don't.

[00:58:37] Like, the character I hate the most on that show was Tyreek.

[00:58:40] I mean, it's because this kid.

[00:58:42] Yeah.

[00:58:44] On book two, I mean, the final episode premieres, I think, is it this?

[00:58:49] No, next month.

[00:58:51] I came to like him in the book two, but I could understand why everyone was hesitant at first, because you're like, yeah, that little shit.

[00:58:59] I mean, I guess that's why I finally sat down and watched it.

[00:59:02] And so, I mean.

[00:59:04] It's more of a legal thriller than it is.

[00:59:06] Yeah, you have characters on this show that are even more shitter to a degree than Tyreek.

[00:59:12] What I don't like about Tyreek is like, this kid.

[00:59:17] And, you know, that's the point of his story.

[00:59:19] He's a kid who didn't have to do this shit, but wanted it.

[00:59:23] And now, you see in power book two.

[00:59:25] I mean, he's really not.

[00:59:28] Yeah, he's smart.

[00:59:29] He's capable.

[00:59:31] I think they just introduced him in an awkward way.

[00:59:35] And to be fair, if I was depressed and kind of the son of a gangster and realizing my parents don't really love each other, I guess I would be distrustful.

[00:59:44] But yeah, we didn't think at first you want to focus on him.

[00:59:49] He's not too interesting when it's just him.

[00:59:52] My thing is this, right?

[00:59:53] Which Tyreek's character, right?

[00:59:54] You know, he, you know, he.

[00:59:58] You know, this is coming from like real life stuff too.

[01:00:00] People, things I've experienced, people I know, where people I come from, different things like that.

[01:00:05] Anybody.

[01:00:06] I mean, they didn't.

[01:00:07] We even talked about this on the Altered Carbon episode.

[01:00:10] These motherfuckers didn't have.

[01:00:12] And they even say it on the show.

[01:00:14] He didn't have a fucking front door.

[01:00:17] He had a fucking elevator.

[01:00:19] To his house.

[01:00:21] Yeah.

[01:00:22] It's kind of like feeling sorry for a celeb who is like, but you got the world.

[01:00:26] You're okay.

[01:00:26] You got a fucking elevator to your fucking house.

[01:00:30] That goes, that opens up to your house.

[01:00:32] You want for nothing.

[01:00:35] You want for fucking nothing.

[01:00:38] Yet you want to be in the street looking over your shoulder every day of your life.

[01:00:44] You can get Power Book 2.

[01:00:46] You really see how he's fucked up.

[01:00:48] In my opinion, he's fucked up more than he's succeeded on the show.

[01:00:51] People get where he's at now on Book 2.

[01:00:54] His mom is gone.

[01:00:56] His sister is, his younger sister is gone.

[01:00:59] I'm catching up soon.

[01:01:00] But yeah, the sister dying in the main series really is like.

[01:01:05] They have a younger sister.

[01:01:06] What I mean is like.

[01:01:09] They're separated from each other.

[01:01:11] He basically, you know, and he's separated.

[01:01:14] He has.

[01:01:15] And Braden's his friend and he's troubled and stupid.

[01:01:18] So you're like, oh.

[01:01:20] You know, he.

[01:01:21] No, he uses people.

[01:01:24] I mean, ghosts use people, but.

[01:01:26] I don't know.

[01:01:27] Ghost.

[01:01:28] It's almost like they're trying to make him a Godfather thing where I hate.

[01:01:32] I like my dad, but I don't want to become him.

[01:01:35] But yet I'm becoming like him.

[01:01:36] But then they.

[01:01:37] They just started off with this time.

[01:01:39] I don't like dad.

[01:01:41] I'm sorry.

[01:01:41] He's no Michael Cullion though.

[01:01:43] Like, yeah.

[01:01:43] No, I'm not.

[01:01:44] I'm just.

[01:01:45] The difference is he never had any respect for his dad.

[01:01:48] That's the other thing.

[01:01:49] He's like, fuck you, dad.

[01:01:51] She's no mom.

[01:01:52] So.

[01:01:53] I get that.

[01:01:54] You know, like, you know, that's your mom.

[01:01:56] You know what I mean?

[01:01:57] You know.

[01:01:58] But.

[01:01:59] I don't.

[01:02:00] Like people shit on ghosts sometimes.

[01:02:02] You know, you.

[01:02:03] Like, well, dude.

[01:02:04] I love ghosts.

[01:02:05] You understand your relationship with somebody who.

[01:02:09] Wants you.

[01:02:10] Like when he asked you.

[01:02:11] What do you see me?

[01:02:11] I see you at the biggest drug dealer in the city.

[01:02:14] Like you see.

[01:02:15] Like you.

[01:02:16] See me as one thing.

[01:02:18] This is doing the street.

[01:02:19] I want to do more.

[01:02:20] I want to be more.

[01:02:21] I don't want to be looking on my shoulder no more.

[01:02:23] But that's why I think he was so likable.

[01:02:25] He didn't.

[01:02:26] As he left.

[01:02:27] Or better yet.

[01:02:28] Crime found him, even though he had kind of left it.

[01:02:32] That's just how he.

[01:02:33] I mean, the theme song alone says.

[01:02:35] I got to get to where I got to get.

[01:02:37] You know, like.

[01:02:37] So.

[01:02:38] You already know.

[01:02:39] Yeah.

[01:02:40] And, you know.

[01:02:40] And, you know.

[01:02:41] We find out through Angela.

[01:02:43] And, you know.

[01:02:44] The little.

[01:02:44] The few times he does go back home.

[01:02:47] To like.

[01:02:47] You know.

[01:02:47] His past.

[01:02:48] You know.

[01:02:49] We find out.

[01:02:50] You know.

[01:02:50] He is a very.

[01:02:51] Of course.

[01:02:51] We know from the beginning.

[01:02:52] He's smart.

[01:02:53] He's a smart guy.

[01:02:54] And he.

[01:02:55] You know.

[01:02:56] Gone to.

[01:02:57] This college.

[01:02:58] You know.

[01:02:59] He.

[01:02:59] I think he actually got the scholarship.

[01:03:02] He could have gone to this college.

[01:03:03] Got this.

[01:03:04] He could have.

[01:03:04] If he had kept screwing up.

[01:03:06] I would have been like.

[01:03:06] This isn't all that interesting.

[01:03:08] But.

[01:03:08] He's trying to get it together.

[01:03:10] I can't.

[01:03:12] In a sense.

[01:03:13] You know.

[01:03:13] He was trying to.

[01:03:16] Make up also.

[01:03:17] You know.

[01:03:18] He had an opportunity.

[01:03:19] To take a different path.

[01:03:20] And he didn't.

[01:03:21] And now.

[01:03:22] He's at the point.

[01:03:22] Now they will.

[01:03:23] Fuck.

[01:03:24] You know.

[01:03:24] I've done all this.

[01:03:25] But.

[01:03:25] I don't want to keep doing this shit.

[01:03:27] And he's like.

[01:03:27] I want to go back to that path.

[01:03:28] I kind of.

[01:03:29] Originally.

[01:03:30] Because it took.

[01:03:30] I'm in a better position.

[01:03:32] This is my cover.

[01:03:34] Yeah.

[01:03:34] In the day.

[01:03:35] I'm going to.

[01:03:35] Get my hands dirty.

[01:03:37] Um.

[01:03:38] But.

[01:03:38] Being on that path.

[01:03:39] You're on.

[01:03:40] And you've been on.

[01:03:41] You got all this crazy baggage.

[01:03:43] Trying to get.

[01:03:44] To the elder.

[01:03:44] Get back to that path.

[01:03:45] Where.

[01:03:47] There's none of that.

[01:03:47] That's going to be a shoulder.

[01:03:48] No more.

[01:03:49] I mean.

[01:03:49] That's the whole point of the show.

[01:03:51] Is really.

[01:03:51] Him trying to get rid of his baggage.

[01:03:53] Yes.

[01:03:54] Where he.

[01:03:55] Where he.

[01:03:57] Fucked up at.

[01:03:58] Ghost.

[01:03:59] Where he.

[01:04:00] Fucked up at.

[01:04:01] Was.

[01:04:01] In the end.

[01:04:02] When he was.

[01:04:02] Getting.

[01:04:03] He could have easily said.

[01:04:04] Hey dad.

[01:04:05] I want to go in the family business.

[01:04:06] That's the way I could have said.

[01:04:08] With him.

[01:04:08] Going back to that final season.

[01:04:10] That first half.

[01:04:11] Of season six.

[01:04:12] Right.

[01:04:12] Ghost.

[01:04:13] The moment.

[01:04:14] The moments that Ghost fucks up.

[01:04:16] Is when.

[01:04:17] Again.

[01:04:18] He.

[01:04:18] He's about to become lieutenant governor.

[01:04:20] He's got the club.

[01:04:22] You know.

[01:04:22] He's got everything he wanted.

[01:04:23] You know.

[01:04:24] Angela's dead.

[01:04:24] But he's got anything else he wanted now.

[01:04:27] Remember.

[01:04:27] There's that one episode.

[01:04:28] Where he's just talking down to everybody.

[01:04:30] He's talking down to fucking.

[01:04:32] Tasha.

[01:04:33] He's talking down to fucking Dre.

[01:04:35] And Tasha's another one.

[01:04:36] Who just keeps going back and forth.

[01:04:38] One minute I hate her.

[01:04:38] The next minute.

[01:04:39] Oh.

[01:04:39] I see what she's trying to do.

[01:04:40] She's trying to keep her family safe.

[01:04:43] Yeah.

[01:04:43] I get that to a degree.

[01:04:45] But she also did shit to put them in more danger.

[01:04:47] I mean like.

[01:04:48] Yeah.

[01:04:49] He's the one who put fucking.

[01:04:51] Really put Tariq out there to fucking like.

[01:04:53] You know.

[01:04:53] You're like your father.

[01:04:54] You teach him how to.

[01:04:55] You know.

[01:04:56] Do the game.

[01:04:57] And shit.

[01:04:57] I'm like.

[01:04:58] Why the fuck you.

[01:04:59] You see where you go.

[01:05:01] Yeah.

[01:05:01] She's a bitch.

[01:05:06] I would have liked it better.

[01:05:07] Had Angela said.

[01:05:08] You know what.

[01:05:09] I can't be a prosecutor anymore.

[01:05:11] I'm going to join Ghost.

[01:05:13] Yeah.

[01:05:14] But again.

[01:05:14] But you know.

[01:05:16] Again.

[01:05:16] Everybody on that show.

[01:05:18] In Power Universe.

[01:05:19] Legal or not.

[01:05:21] That's why.

[01:05:22] There's no black and white.

[01:05:23] There are gray areas.

[01:05:24] I mean.

[01:05:25] That awful Simon Stern guy.

[01:05:27] He keeps trying to steal the club.

[01:05:28] And he's got like weird kinky parties.

[01:05:30] And you're like.

[01:05:30] Please go away.

[01:05:31] You're not going to buy this place back.

[01:05:33] We will find every legal fender bender.

[01:05:35] Because you're really dumb.

[01:05:38] Rest of the spinoffs man.

[01:05:39] Like that dude is still there man.

[01:05:42] He is a cockroach.

[01:05:44] I loved how.

[01:05:46] This is a great comeback role for Lawrence Tate.

[01:05:48] As councilman.

[01:05:49] Tate.

[01:05:49] See what they did there.

[01:05:51] Yeah.

[01:05:52] That old dog.

[01:05:53] Oh no.

[01:05:54] Oh yeah.

[01:05:55] This is where it gets minutes to society.

[01:05:56] Dead presidents.

[01:05:57] But much like dead presidents.

[01:05:59] There are some moments on that show.

[01:06:01] When you see.

[01:06:02] Like he brings that old dog out.

[01:06:04] And that character.

[01:06:05] Especially when he is.

[01:06:08] One of his speeches.

[01:06:09] He's like.

[01:06:10] You don't talk to me that way.

[01:06:12] But I love it.

[01:06:13] It's like.

[01:06:14] He has the perfect background.

[01:06:16] He uses the copaganda.

[01:06:18] Because he's a former cop.

[01:06:19] So he's able to get.

[01:06:20] Plays the copaganda shit with him too.

[01:06:22] So.

[01:06:23] Yeah.

[01:06:23] His actual brother.

[01:06:24] Is playing his brother.

[01:06:25] And he's a cop.

[01:06:26] And I love that.

[01:06:27] Like that is the only time.

[01:06:29] His brother.

[01:06:29] His brother looks the other way.

[01:06:30] He's like.

[01:06:30] You're in trouble.

[01:06:32] Let me get the shovel.

[01:06:33] And then that final episode.

[01:06:35] I was.

[01:06:36] Darkly laughing.

[01:06:37] I'm like.

[01:06:38] That's awesome.

[01:06:41] Yeah.

[01:06:41] Like.

[01:06:42] So you watch.

[01:06:43] Power book too.

[01:06:44] Right.

[01:06:45] The first season.

[01:06:46] I swear.

[01:06:46] I will catch up.

[01:06:47] And.

[01:06:48] But I loved.

[01:06:49] How the bad guys on that.

[01:06:51] Were all part of the.

[01:06:53] College.

[01:06:54] You're like.

[01:06:55] My God.

[01:06:56] I'm not.

[01:06:57] I'm not going to give you any spoilers.

[01:06:59] Like remember.

[01:07:00] Sacks.

[01:07:01] Sacks.

[01:07:02] Right.

[01:07:02] The.

[01:07:03] The.

[01:07:04] The attorney.

[01:07:05] The other assistant.

[01:07:06] Attorney.

[01:07:07] District attorney.

[01:07:08] Yes.

[01:07:09] Yeah.

[01:07:09] That awful.

[01:07:10] Cooper.

[01:07:10] Yeah.

[01:07:11] Oh man.

[01:07:12] Scum of the earth.

[01:07:13] Scum.

[01:07:14] I hated his character so much.

[01:07:17] Like when Ghost and Tommy had him with that plastic bag.

[01:07:20] I also pissed off they didn't kill him.

[01:07:22] I will say this.

[01:07:23] I'm not going to give you.

[01:07:24] You haven't seen.

[01:07:25] You get caught up yet.

[01:07:26] I actually started to kind of like.

[01:07:29] Sacks.

[01:07:29] And I actually.

[01:07:32] Again.

[01:07:33] This is a good story.

[01:07:34] Storytelling.

[01:07:35] Now you see the coin flip.

[01:07:36] You find out.

[01:07:38] Like.

[01:07:39] You see.

[01:07:40] A different.

[01:07:40] You see.

[01:07:42] I love to hate him.

[01:07:43] I'll put it that way.

[01:07:44] Because I just.

[01:07:46] But.

[01:07:46] In power.

[01:07:48] How they did his.

[01:07:49] How they.

[01:07:50] Progressed his character.

[01:07:51] I started to like him for a bit.

[01:07:53] He had some moments where like.

[01:07:54] Okay.

[01:07:55] He's not a complete asshole.

[01:07:56] It's kind of like.

[01:07:57] Disgraced cop.

[01:07:58] Coming from a crappy.

[01:07:59] Division.

[01:08:00] Now he's at a better division.

[01:08:01] So he's going to behave.

[01:08:02] But at the same time.

[01:08:03] Like with this guy.

[01:08:03] Like.

[01:08:04] I can't give you any spoilers.

[01:08:06] Because you haven't caught up yet.

[01:08:07] But like.

[01:08:07] Again.

[01:08:08] I mean.

[01:08:09] I just hated how he treated Angela.

[01:08:11] Growing up.

[01:08:11] And he's like.

[01:08:12] Dude.

[01:08:12] You haven't even earned your keep here.

[01:08:13] And your.

[01:08:14] Your boss was part of the Lobos gang.

[01:08:17] So.

[01:08:17] Shut up.

[01:08:18] I'm saying like.

[01:08:19] He actually did some things.

[01:08:21] With his character.

[01:08:22] In book two.

[01:08:23] That.

[01:08:24] Oh.

[01:08:24] Like.

[01:08:25] It gives you a different.

[01:08:27] Layer.

[01:08:27] To sex.

[01:08:28] Again.

[01:08:29] That's what I love about shows.

[01:08:30] Like.

[01:08:31] He seemed legit at first.

[01:08:32] When he wanted to avenge his colleague Greg.

[01:08:34] But then you're finding out like.

[01:08:35] Just like all the other politicians.

[01:08:36] Nah.

[01:08:37] He just wants.

[01:08:38] A statue made in his honor.

[01:08:40] He doesn't actually care.

[01:08:41] Well.

[01:08:42] I mean.

[01:08:42] I mean.

[01:08:43] Again.

[01:08:44] You need to catch up.

[01:08:46] No.

[01:08:46] I.

[01:08:46] I know.

[01:08:47] That's fine.

[01:08:47] I'm just.

[01:08:48] I.

[01:08:48] I.

[01:08:48] Like you're saying.

[01:08:49] This is good storytelling.

[01:08:50] If we're flipping constantly.

[01:08:52] On someone's.

[01:08:53] Morality.

[01:08:54] And what are we like.

[01:08:55] Or hate them.

[01:08:56] You know.

[01:08:57] Again.

[01:08:58] Once you catch up.

[01:08:59] You'll see that.

[01:09:00] Maybe.

[01:09:02] Actually.

[01:09:03] Maybe he's shitty.

[01:09:04] But not all bad.

[01:09:05] I don't know.

[01:09:06] I'm not going to spoil it.

[01:09:08] But.

[01:09:08] You do get a sense.

[01:09:10] With his character arc.

[01:09:11] That no.

[01:09:11] He actually does care.

[01:09:13] But he's just.

[01:09:15] But he's also.

[01:09:16] He's played the dirty game.

[01:09:18] So long.

[01:09:18] All he knows.

[01:09:19] Is how to exploit people.

[01:09:20] In order to get a win.

[01:09:21] In this.

[01:09:22] In those kind of positions.

[01:09:24] Oh man.

[01:09:24] It's.

[01:09:24] You know.

[01:09:25] Particularly.

[01:09:27] These.

[01:09:28] You know.

[01:09:28] Federal.

[01:09:29] You know.

[01:09:30] District attorneys.

[01:09:31] And stuff like that.

[01:09:32] Is.

[01:09:32] Is part of his.

[01:09:34] Job.

[01:09:34] Doing their duty.

[01:09:35] Part of it is.

[01:09:36] Their career advancement.

[01:09:38] Mm-hmm.

[01:09:39] It's when those lines.

[01:09:41] Get blurred.

[01:09:41] Of what's more important to you.

[01:09:43] Whether.

[01:09:43] You know.

[01:09:44] Again.

[01:09:45] Going back to what I just previously said.

[01:09:47] With the credit about shows like this.

[01:09:48] There's no black and white.

[01:09:50] There are green.

[01:09:50] Yeah.

[01:09:51] If you.

[01:09:52] Anyone who says this is easy.

[01:09:54] Yeah.

[01:09:54] You haven't even watched that episode.

[01:09:56] Um.

[01:09:57] May I just say.

[01:09:58] Scene stiller.

[01:09:59] I don't think it's talked about enough.

[01:10:01] Is.

[01:10:03] Uh.

[01:10:05] DEA agent.

[01:10:06] Uh.

[01:10:07] Uh.

[01:10:08] Played by.

[01:10:08] Monica.

[01:10:09] Gabriela.

[01:10:10] Kuman.

[01:10:10] Who you might know from.

[01:10:12] Fast and Furious.

[01:10:13] Start nine.

[01:10:13] Lighting me.

[01:10:14] Yeah.

[01:10:15] I.

[01:10:16] I thought she was.

[01:10:17] This was a good comeback role for her.

[01:10:18] She's like.

[01:10:19] Okay.

[01:10:19] So she's in another law enforcement role.

[01:10:22] But.

[01:10:22] The difference here is.

[01:10:24] I'm going to be honest.

[01:10:25] Still like.

[01:10:27] Because her hairstyle.

[01:10:28] Because she's old.

[01:10:29] She's a little bit.

[01:10:30] It's.

[01:10:30] Older.

[01:10:31] And her hairstyle is so different.

[01:10:33] I did.

[01:10:34] I knew.

[01:10:35] I knew that actor.

[01:10:36] It's not Vanessa Ferlito.

[01:10:38] But it's some other.

[01:10:39] You know.

[01:10:39] Mixed.

[01:10:39] Yeah.

[01:10:40] Yeah.

[01:10:40] I know.

[01:10:41] But.

[01:10:42] She's on.

[01:10:43] Power Book 2.

[01:10:45] Yes.

[01:10:46] But no.

[01:10:48] I.

[01:10:48] Because she's older.

[01:10:50] Her hairstyle is different on the show.

[01:10:51] I didn't recognize her at first.

[01:10:53] Who she is.

[01:10:54] As the actor.

[01:10:55] Now that you said it.

[01:10:57] It's clicked.

[01:10:58] Like.

[01:10:58] Oh.

[01:10:58] She's been in some Soderbergh movies.

[01:11:00] But yeah.

[01:11:00] She's kind of one of those.

[01:11:01] If you don't know her.

[01:11:02] You have to.

[01:11:03] She changes her hair up enough.

[01:11:05] Well.

[01:11:06] The majority of her earlier films.

[01:11:08] Her hair has always been straight and long.

[01:11:10] On.

[01:11:11] Power.

[01:11:12] Her hair.

[01:11:12] It's more curly.

[01:11:14] You know.

[01:11:14] Up more.

[01:11:15] And she's older.

[01:11:16] And I didn't.

[01:11:17] I.

[01:11:19] I knew I knew her.

[01:11:20] I didn't click on what stuff I'd seen her before.

[01:11:23] Yeah.

[01:11:23] Oh.

[01:11:24] I mean.

[01:11:24] Just hats off though.

[01:11:25] Like.

[01:11:26] I.

[01:11:27] Instead of being like.

[01:11:28] You know.

[01:11:29] I'm not saying the DEA is always 100%.

[01:11:31] But I just like how she's like.

[01:11:33] Like.

[01:11:34] Everyone she meets.

[01:11:35] She's just like.

[01:11:36] Go fuck yourself.

[01:11:37] Like you're not doing your job.

[01:11:39] And then.

[01:11:40] It's like.

[01:11:40] She.

[01:11:41] She doesn't trust half of what's being told.

[01:11:43] She's like.

[01:11:43] There's a rat in my office.

[01:11:45] I know it.

[01:11:46] There are a few characters that actually has not crossed the line.

[01:11:49] On anybody.

[01:11:50] On the show.

[01:11:51] There are very few characters that has not.

[01:11:54] This is.

[01:11:54] Well.

[01:11:54] On.

[01:11:56] She's one of those.

[01:11:57] Like.

[01:11:57] She doesn't take shit from the office.

[01:11:59] And.

[01:11:59] I like how she keeps going up to.

[01:12:01] Sax.

[01:12:01] Going.

[01:12:02] Why the fuck are you still here?

[01:12:03] You're a shithead.

[01:12:04] Get out.

[01:12:05] Yeah.

[01:12:05] But as I'm saying.

[01:12:06] Like.

[01:12:06] When you get kind of a proper book too.

[01:12:08] Like.

[01:12:08] Are she.

[01:12:09] Sax.

[01:12:10] Art.

[01:12:11] They do.

[01:12:12] Cross.

[01:12:13] You're going to have a.

[01:12:14] You're going to see.

[01:12:15] Sax.

[01:12:15] In a slightly different way.

[01:12:16] He does become a hypocrite.

[01:12:18] Briefly.

[01:12:18] Like she suspends him.

[01:12:20] From misconduct.

[01:12:21] Even though she kind of.

[01:12:24] Uh.

[01:12:25] Uh.

[01:12:26] She later does the same thing.

[01:12:28] That he's suspended for.

[01:12:29] So.

[01:12:30] It's just funny how.

[01:12:31] Is.

[01:12:31] Everyone's doing a.

[01:12:32] Do as I say.

[01:12:33] Not as I do.

[01:12:34] But.

[01:12:34] There's just so much raw emotion.

[01:12:36] Going on in the scene.

[01:12:37] You're like.

[01:12:37] I want to know more about him.

[01:12:39] How they got to this.

[01:12:40] Crappy.

[01:12:42] Powerful.

[01:12:44] Like I said.

[01:12:44] She's literally one of the few characters.

[01:12:46] On that show.

[01:12:48] Principles.

[01:12:49] Morally.

[01:12:50] Right.

[01:12:51] She hasn't gotten to the point.

[01:12:52] Where it's like.

[01:12:52] Fuck it.

[01:12:53] I'm going to get a gun.

[01:12:54] And plant it.

[01:12:56] That.

[01:12:57] Is continued through.

[01:12:59] Book two.

[01:12:59] When her character comes back.

[01:13:01] Um.

[01:13:02] That's what I liked about book two.

[01:13:03] I think.

[01:13:03] Is like.

[01:13:04] Okay.

[01:13:04] So I don't like Tariq.

[01:13:05] But all the other people there.

[01:13:07] Marriage age blige.

[01:13:08] Is.

[01:13:09] I still don't like that motherfucker.

[01:13:11] Like.

[01:13:11] I was.

[01:13:12] No.

[01:13:12] I don't like him.

[01:13:13] But.

[01:13:13] I liked how it was still part of the universe.

[01:13:15] So to me.

[01:13:15] It was kind of like.

[01:13:16] Yeah.

[01:13:17] I will admit.

[01:13:18] Like.

[01:13:18] I.

[01:13:18] At first.

[01:13:19] When they announced the spinoffs.

[01:13:20] I was like.

[01:13:21] You guys are just fucking milking this shit now.

[01:13:25] Raising.

[01:13:26] Canaan.

[01:13:27] Canaan is the best one out of all of them.

[01:13:29] That's the best spinoff.

[01:13:29] I didn't think it needed to be free books.

[01:13:32] They could have just literally said.

[01:13:33] You know.

[01:13:33] Power season seven.

[01:13:35] Kind of like they did with Bosch.

[01:13:36] Legacy.

[01:13:36] And you're like.

[01:13:37] It's just Bosch season seven.

[01:13:38] Just call it that.

[01:13:39] But.

[01:13:40] I digress.

[01:13:41] Is this like.

[01:13:41] They're all part of the same.

[01:13:44] You know.

[01:13:45] Right.

[01:13:45] Though.

[01:13:46] If they.

[01:13:46] If it would have been season seven.

[01:13:48] Continuing on the.

[01:13:49] The existing show.

[01:13:51] That's more money.

[01:13:52] That the studio has.

[01:13:53] To give out.

[01:13:54] To cast and crew.

[01:13:55] Someone would have bitched and said.

[01:13:57] Now.

[01:13:57] You're out of ideas.

[01:13:58] Blah blah blah.

[01:13:58] Well.

[01:13:59] If it's a new show.

[01:14:00] New contract.

[01:14:02] Mm-hmm.

[01:14:02] One.

[01:14:03] You get to pay them less.

[01:14:04] Yeah.

[01:14:05] Right.

[01:14:06] Well.

[01:14:06] And how they introduced Mary J. Blige's character was awesome.

[01:14:09] I like how.

[01:14:10] We're like.

[01:14:12] I think on the show.

[01:14:13] Well.

[01:14:13] And.

[01:14:14] She.

[01:14:15] She had done acting in.

[01:14:16] Here and there.

[01:14:17] Like.

[01:14:17] She did the one.

[01:14:19] What was the movie with Angela Bassett.

[01:14:21] Where they played Rosa Parks.

[01:14:22] And.

[01:14:23] Her other fellow friend.

[01:14:26] Oh.

[01:14:27] I don't remember.

[01:14:27] It was a good movie.

[01:14:28] Um.

[01:14:29] But she.

[01:14:31] But she.

[01:14:31] But she plays that character.

[01:14:32] Betty.

[01:14:33] Betty and Coretta.

[01:14:34] Okay.

[01:14:34] But.

[01:14:35] So again.

[01:14:36] Going back to.

[01:14:37] Mudbound.

[01:14:38] Yeah.

[01:14:39] There is.

[01:14:40] I'm not going to give you any spoilers.

[01:14:41] Because you're not caught up yet.

[01:14:42] But there's scenes with her character.

[01:14:44] Um.

[01:14:46] That she.

[01:14:46] That are.

[01:14:47] Like.

[01:14:48] There's a scene.

[01:14:49] I'm particularly going to call it.

[01:14:50] A dream sequence.

[01:14:52] I'm not going to tell you.

[01:14:54] I'm sorry.

[01:14:55] I'm sorry.

[01:14:58] I'm not going to tell you the.

[01:14:59] The.

[01:15:00] What causes the dream sequence.

[01:15:02] Um.

[01:15:02] It's.

[01:15:03] It's pretty fucked up.

[01:15:04] But.

[01:15:05] In the scene.

[01:15:06] With the two other actors.

[01:15:07] In the scene.

[01:15:09] Um.

[01:15:10] She.

[01:15:10] It's a really powerful scene.

[01:15:13] Um.

[01:15:13] You need to get caught up.

[01:15:14] When you get caught up.

[01:15:15] We'll talk about it.

[01:15:16] I.

[01:15:17] I promise.

[01:15:17] But.

[01:15:18] I.

[01:15:19] Just when they first introduced her.

[01:15:20] In those first few episodes of book two.

[01:15:22] I was like.

[01:15:22] Okay.

[01:15:23] Awesome.

[01:15:24] So like.

[01:15:24] Kanan.

[01:15:25] Is the bully.

[01:15:27] Who's just kind of.

[01:15:28] Leave me alone.

[01:15:29] Otherwise I'll.

[01:15:30] You know.

[01:15:31] Beat you up.

[01:15:32] Uh.

[01:15:33] I liked how.

[01:15:34] In essence.

[01:15:34] She's like.

[01:15:35] The grandma or aunt.

[01:15:37] Who.

[01:15:37] You know.

[01:15:38] I'm talking about.

[01:15:38] Canaan and her son.

[01:15:40] Canaan.

[01:15:42] No.

[01:15:42] No.

[01:15:43] No.

[01:15:43] I'm talking about Mary J.

[01:15:44] Blige.

[01:15:44] Monet.

[01:15:45] But I'm saying.

[01:15:45] In contrast to Canaan.

[01:15:47] Oh.

[01:15:48] Oh.

[01:15:48] I thought.

[01:15:49] Okay.

[01:15:49] I thought you were talking about.

[01:15:50] I got confused.

[01:15:51] I'm getting somewhere.

[01:15:52] I'm getting somewhere.

[01:15:52] I promise.

[01:15:53] Like.

[01:15:54] Canaan is basically.

[01:15:55] The bigger asshole on the block.

[01:15:56] Just because he's surrounded by assholes.

[01:15:58] Monet.

[01:15:58] I just like how she's like.

[01:16:00] You need a favor.

[01:16:01] I'm gonna.

[01:16:02] You know.

[01:16:02] Literally embarrass this asshole.

[01:16:04] Who's a big powerful gangster.

[01:16:06] At this whole party.

[01:16:07] I'm gonna dehumanize.

[01:16:08] Recognize him.

[01:16:08] Just so he doesn't mess with the rest of us.

[01:16:10] The rest of the year.

[01:16:12] This is a little warning.

[01:16:15] So once you like.

[01:16:16] You need to watch Raising Canaan too.

[01:16:18] Once you watch Raising Canaan.

[01:16:19] You completely understand why.

[01:16:22] Oh.

[01:16:22] That's.

[01:16:23] Well.

[01:16:24] I.

[01:16:24] I still need to catch up on that one.

[01:16:26] And book four.

[01:16:26] But like.

[01:16:27] What was cool about book three.

[01:16:28] Is like.

[01:16:29] Yeah.

[01:16:29] Is like.

[01:16:31] I wasn't keen on the.

[01:16:33] Like I am with many prequels or spinoffs.

[01:16:35] I'm never keen on having a younger person.

[01:16:37] Just because.

[01:16:38] I'm imagining the terror of an actor.

[01:16:40] Having to match up their persona.

[01:16:42] With the previous persona.

[01:16:43] That was like.

[01:16:44] Okay.

[01:16:44] Cool.

[01:16:44] So.

[01:16:46] He's narrating.

[01:16:47] 50's narrating.

[01:16:48] Let me interject real quick though.

[01:16:51] I get that.

[01:16:52] But at the same time.

[01:16:53] He was on the show with.

[01:16:55] With.

[01:16:56] You know.

[01:16:57] Omari.

[01:16:57] Right.

[01:16:58] So.

[01:16:58] He said he had six years to.

[01:17:01] You know.

[01:17:01] Learn.

[01:17:02] And be under this.

[01:17:03] Or work with this older.

[01:17:05] Greatly talented actor.

[01:17:07] So.

[01:17:07] You know.

[01:17:09] There's.

[01:17:09] With that chemistry.

[01:17:10] Now.

[01:17:10] They establish a relationship with the characters.

[01:17:12] And the actors themselves.

[01:17:13] Those.

[01:17:14] That makes it easier.

[01:17:16] For them to do a spinoff.

[01:17:17] With that character.

[01:17:18] Because.

[01:17:19] Oh yeah.

[01:17:20] I wanted to see more of them.

[01:17:21] I just wasn't.

[01:17:22] Sure if they were going to be able.

[01:17:23] To pull it off with.

[01:17:24] Yeah.

[01:17:24] I mean.

[01:17:25] I wasn't.

[01:17:25] Like I said.

[01:17:26] I wasn't keen on him.

[01:17:27] Because I just.

[01:17:28] Don't like the character.

[01:17:29] Like.

[01:17:30] But.

[01:17:31] That is.

[01:17:31] Also.

[01:17:32] A testament.

[01:17:33] Of how well.

[01:17:35] I want to see why they're fucked up.

[01:17:37] I mean.

[01:17:37] Look at Breaking Bad.

[01:17:39] I fucking hate Hank.

[01:17:40] The entire time.

[01:17:41] And then those last.

[01:17:42] That last season.

[01:17:43] You're like.

[01:17:44] Oh.

[01:17:45] Now I see why he's been a douchebag.

[01:17:46] All this whole time.

[01:17:48] He's actually the hero.

[01:17:50] I mean.

[01:17:50] He just had nothing to do.

[01:17:52] He's unhappily married.

[01:17:53] The differences between Walter is.

[01:17:56] It doesn't help that.

[01:17:58] His partners.

[01:17:59] He's making the same stupid jokes with.

[01:18:01] That don't.

[01:18:02] Do so well.

[01:18:03] When it's time to.

[01:18:04] Come home for Thanksgiving.

[01:18:05] So I mean.

[01:18:06] That.

[01:18:06] I think that's the other thing too.

[01:18:07] Like.

[01:18:08] Mystery Science Theater.

[01:18:09] Has a funny.

[01:18:10] Recurring joke.

[01:18:11] Which this person's a danger to themselves.

[01:18:12] And others.

[01:18:13] And I think that's very much the case.

[01:18:15] With a lot of these kingpins.

[01:18:16] And.

[01:18:17] I mean.

[01:18:17] Kanan is.

[01:18:18] It's just awesome.

[01:18:19] Just because he's got the sister.

[01:18:20] Who's.

[01:18:21] The crooked cop.

[01:18:23] And.

[01:18:24] Jukebox.

[01:18:25] Yeah.

[01:18:26] Jukebox.

[01:18:26] Yeah.

[01:18:26] And.

[01:18:28] She helps him out with his shit.

[01:18:30] Sticks him back up.

[01:18:31] Almost.

[01:18:32] Yeah.

[01:18:33] I just want to watch.

[01:18:34] Because when like.

[01:18:36] Juicebox's younger character.

[01:18:37] Is on there.

[01:18:37] Like.

[01:18:38] When you see her character.

[01:18:39] On that show.

[01:18:40] Yeah.

[01:18:40] She is.

[01:18:41] Very well done.

[01:18:42] Yeah.

[01:18:43] Nothing like.

[01:18:44] Becomes on power.

[01:18:45] But like.

[01:18:46] It's.

[01:18:47] Again.

[01:18:47] Like.

[01:18:48] When you watch.

[01:18:48] Raising Kanan.

[01:18:49] Like.

[01:18:50] Seeing.

[01:18:50] Just what those two.

[01:18:53] Grew up in.

[01:18:54] And went through.

[01:18:54] You under.

[01:18:55] You understand.

[01:18:57] And great.

[01:18:58] Casting by his mom.

[01:18:59] Patina Miller.

[01:19:00] Who I've had a.

[01:19:01] Crush on since.

[01:19:02] Madam Secretary.

[01:19:04] Nice.

[01:19:05] You.

[01:19:07] She sucks him.

[01:19:08] Like.

[01:19:08] She gives him that.

[01:19:11] I forget what she gives him.

[01:19:12] She's like.

[01:19:12] Here's the rocks.

[01:19:13] In a thing.

[01:19:14] The bullies will never see it coming.

[01:19:16] And the bullies are like.

[01:19:18] Don't take my lunch money bro.

[01:19:21] I don't want your lunch money.

[01:19:22] I want you to leave me the fuck alone.

[01:19:23] I don't want you to leave me the fuck alone.

[01:19:43] I don't want you to leave me the fuck alone.

[01:19:54] I don't want you to leave me the fuck alone.

[01:22:08] Right?

[01:22:10] Murder Fit Ghost.

[01:22:11] Ghost came out even in business.

[01:22:13] Even in business.

[01:22:14] You know what I'm saying?

[01:22:15] And so I felt like she really knew that.

[01:22:17] You astutely answered the question.

[01:22:20] I can't argue at all with that.

[01:22:22] You have a director who came in one time and said, I don't think the kids know Ghost.

[01:22:27] And I said, yes they do.

[01:22:30] And you can't be a director and tell me that which I curated.

[01:22:32] With the aid of Courtney.

[01:22:34] With the aid of 50.

[01:22:34] And with the aid of Joe.

[01:22:35] The four of us kind of curated Ghost.

[01:22:37] Ghost.

[01:22:38] You can't tell me.

[01:22:40] That the kids don't know Ghost.

[01:22:42] Just like the darks of Omari, Brave and Nova know.

[01:22:45] They know some real bad shit that I've done.

[01:22:48] They know some shit mail that you don't know.

[01:22:50] Because I gave birth to those kids.

[01:22:52] So I'm not real big on like fabricating my life.

[01:22:56] They can't know everything.

[01:22:58] But they know some dark shit.

[01:22:59] Like oh shit, Papa's not.

[01:23:01] Hmm.

[01:23:02] Alright.

[01:23:03] And so I begged to differ with the director.

[01:23:05] And it was a director I highly respect and trusted.

[01:23:07] And he sat and listened.

[01:23:09] And he was like, oh that makes sense.

[01:23:10] I said they might not necessarily understand and title.

[01:23:14] What the streets of New York think of when they hear Ghost.

[01:23:18] But absolutely they know.

[01:23:20] I guess the fabric.

[01:23:22] And the thread of that guy.

[01:23:24] They know.

[01:23:24] They know he's an ominous figurine.

[01:23:27] They know he's ferocious.

[01:23:28] They know that their pops has a way about him.

[01:23:30] They know that he's doting and loving.

[01:23:33] Which Omari's doting and loving.

[01:23:35] Also super crazy.

[01:23:37] Which you can't play the character if you're not.

[01:23:40] So this guy is somebody that I agree.

[01:23:43] You answer correctly in that which I asked you.

[01:23:45] Which is why were you team Tasha?

[01:23:47] Your point is.

[01:23:48] If the kids know that side of that guy.

[01:23:50] Tasha not only knows it.

[01:23:52] She was perfectly befitting of that side.

[01:23:55] Whereas the mistress was not.

[01:23:57] Completely agree.

[01:23:58] Completely.

[01:23:58] So basically Ghost was lonely.

[01:24:01] Because one woman figured.

[01:24:03] Right.

[01:24:04] One girl knew one side of me.

[01:24:06] And then the other.

[01:24:07] Yeah.

[01:24:08] We say woman not girl.

[01:24:09] One woman knew and embraced one side of me.

[01:24:11] The other woman embraced another side.

[01:24:13] But can I find something that embraces both.

[01:24:16] And rocks out with.

[01:24:17] That's hard.

[01:24:19] That's hard to find.

[01:24:20] Sometimes in life.

[01:24:21] But also in fiction.

[01:24:25] Once you watched all Raising Cain.

[01:24:27] Oh I love it.

[01:24:28] We renewed that show for like two more seasons.

[01:24:31] So that's going to be a.

[01:24:32] Just like Power.

[01:24:33] Get six.

[01:24:34] Well.

[01:24:35] And I'm glad they let Mara Van Peoples direct some episodes.

[01:24:37] Because I'm not kidding.

[01:24:39] Like kind of like how I.

[01:24:41] Certain actor turned directors just are so invaluable.

[01:24:44] Like I can tell often when Eric LaSalle has directed an episode.

[01:24:48] There's a great emotional speech.

[01:24:49] I can tell when Jonathan Franks has a episode done.

[01:24:52] Because he's got a very eye catching.

[01:24:55] Actors.

[01:24:56] I mean.

[01:24:57] Jonathan Fracture.

[01:24:58] I mean.

[01:24:58] He's such a great director.

[01:25:00] One.

[01:25:00] He's an actor.

[01:25:00] Like directors who are actors.

[01:25:02] He knows how to just trust his cameras and his crew.

[01:25:07] But he was the one actor on Next Generation.

[01:25:10] Was literally going to the production meetings.

[01:25:13] You know.

[01:25:14] That's not.

[01:25:15] All the track turn directors.

[01:25:18] Like they all said.

[01:25:19] Okay.

[01:25:19] I got to make it or break it.

[01:25:21] In fact.

[01:25:22] Not on the level of Jonathan Fracture.

[01:25:24] I met him over the summer dude.

[01:25:26] Like not on the level of Jonathan Fracture.

[01:25:28] And that dude.

[01:25:29] While he's doing command director.

[01:25:31] He's also in production meetings.

[01:25:33] You know.

[01:25:33] I mean that shit.

[01:25:35] And.

[01:25:35] He's getting read up on technology.

[01:25:37] He's not.

[01:25:38] Relying on just.

[01:25:39] What do you think I should do?

[01:25:41] Well.

[01:25:41] He knows what I should do.

[01:25:43] Well.

[01:25:44] Next Generation film.

[01:25:45] That he directed.

[01:25:47] Did fucking well.

[01:25:49] At the box office.

[01:25:50] And story wise.

[01:25:51] He actually.

[01:25:52] To this day.

[01:25:54] He regrets.

[01:25:54] That he did not direct Nemesis.

[01:25:56] If he would have directed Nemesis.

[01:25:58] And to be fair.

[01:25:59] He should have used his power.

[01:26:01] And said.

[01:26:02] You guys promised LeVar.

[01:26:04] You gotta let LeVar direct.

[01:26:06] Yeah.

[01:26:07] There is that too.

[01:26:08] They did fuck him all around.

[01:26:09] But like.

[01:26:10] Roxanne Dawson.

[01:26:12] Torres.

[01:26:13] And Paris.

[01:26:14] From Voyager.

[01:26:15] They've become great actors.

[01:26:16] Turned directors too.

[01:26:18] And.

[01:26:18] They both did.

[01:26:19] So.

[01:26:20] Roxanne.

[01:26:20] Who played.

[01:26:21] What's your name?

[01:26:22] Oh boy.

[01:26:22] She's the best one.

[01:26:23] Out of that group directing.

[01:26:24] I agree.

[01:26:25] She directed several.

[01:26:27] Just like Frax.

[01:26:28] She's directed.

[01:26:29] Mercy Street.

[01:26:30] Crossing Jordan.

[01:26:30] She's done everything.

[01:26:31] But like.

[01:26:32] She.

[01:26:39] Like if I.

[01:26:41] Use my.

[01:26:42] Go home early card.

[01:26:43] No one's gonna ever trust me.

[01:26:44] With a film set ever again.

[01:26:45] I'm like.

[01:26:46] Oh man.

[01:26:47] Because you're.

[01:26:47] Because you're an actor.

[01:26:49] Coming into a role of director.

[01:26:50] Yeah.

[01:26:51] Like.

[01:26:51] People are gonna play the card.

[01:26:53] And say.

[01:26:53] Oh you spoiled Elite.

[01:26:54] You're not serious.

[01:26:56] Exactly.

[01:26:57] You know.

[01:26:57] Like.

[01:26:58] And.

[01:26:59] She went home miserable the next day.

[01:27:01] But it paid off.

[01:27:02] And I'm like.

[01:27:02] And.

[01:27:03] I think Mario Van Peebles.

[01:27:05] He's just always so.

[01:27:07] Energetic.

[01:27:08] Like.

[01:27:08] He's using the same energy.

[01:27:10] He used on Posse.

[01:27:11] And.

[01:27:12] New Jack City.

[01:27:13] In these episodes.

[01:27:14] He does.

[01:27:15] And I mean.

[01:27:15] There's a lot of similar ground to cover.

[01:27:17] But.

[01:27:18] His favorite films he ever did.

[01:27:19] Like.

[01:27:20] He just came out with another.

[01:27:22] Spinoff of Posse.

[01:27:23] I'm like.

[01:27:24] I can't wait to watch that.

[01:27:25] The.

[01:27:26] Acting roles.

[01:27:27] Like.

[01:27:27] He did Gunman.

[01:27:28] Christopher Lennon.

[01:27:29] Gunman.

[01:27:29] Yep.

[01:27:30] I love.

[01:27:31] That.

[01:27:31] I mean.

[01:27:32] Did you see.

[01:27:33] A Million Little Things.

[01:27:35] Say again.

[01:27:36] Did you see A Million Little Things.

[01:27:38] I don't think.

[01:27:38] I have.

[01:27:39] Okay.

[01:27:39] So.

[01:27:40] Long story short.

[01:27:41] It's kind of 30 something.

[01:27:43] Saying elsewhere.

[01:27:43] But it's.

[01:27:44] It's got James Roday from Psych being dramatic.

[01:27:47] But.

[01:27:47] Mario comes in in the last season.

[01:27:49] Playing a key character who's been mentioned for the last few seasons.

[01:27:52] And he just killed it.

[01:27:53] The man can still just.

[01:27:55] And.

[01:27:56] Similar to Power.

[01:27:58] Like.

[01:27:58] Everybody went through so many transitions.

[01:28:00] To where you're like.

[01:28:01] Oh.

[01:28:01] I hate you.

[01:28:01] You're selfish now.

[01:28:02] But I understand why.

[01:28:03] You're dying of cancer.

[01:28:04] And.

[01:28:05] He.

[01:28:06] Had the whole thing.

[01:28:07] It's like.

[01:28:07] Oh my god.

[01:28:08] You thought I.

[01:28:09] Cheated on your mother.

[01:28:10] I would never.

[01:28:11] Why did she say that?

[01:28:11] Oh.

[01:28:12] She said that.

[01:28:12] Because she.

[01:28:13] She was jealous of my co-worker.

[01:28:15] Who she thought I liked.

[01:28:16] But I didn't.

[01:28:17] And so.

[01:28:18] It's.

[01:28:18] It's a soapy show.

[01:28:19] But it is really.

[01:28:21] Just.

[01:28:22] It just.

[01:28:23] The decisions they made.

[01:28:25] Just felt so plausible.

[01:28:26] And relatable.

[01:28:27] And.

[01:28:28] I think.

[01:28:29] The reason actors like working with him.

[01:28:30] Is just he.

[01:28:33] Is able to just show.

[01:28:34] I mean.

[01:28:35] He can take any premise.

[01:28:36] It can be.

[01:28:37] Just like any of the.

[01:28:38] Exploitation B movies.

[01:28:39] He worked on with his dad.

[01:28:40] Or it can be.

[01:28:42] An everyday thing.

[01:28:43] And he just knows how to make use of.

[01:28:44] The time.

[01:28:45] The budget.

[01:28:46] The energy.

[01:28:46] The.

[01:28:47] The themes.

[01:28:48] And make it.

[01:28:49] Stand out.

[01:28:50] And like.

[01:28:51] See.

[01:28:51] That.

[01:28:51] That's an actor's director.

[01:28:56] But yeah.

[01:28:56] Gunman.

[01:28:57] Is definitely one of his best.

[01:28:59] Action movies of the 90s.

[01:29:02] Yeah.

[01:29:02] Man.

[01:29:03] Him.

[01:29:03] Him.

[01:29:04] And Christian Lanbert.

[01:29:05] That.

[01:29:05] And Highlander 3.

[01:29:06] They both had great chemistry.

[01:29:08] Both those films.

[01:29:09] Working together.

[01:29:09] Yeah.

[01:29:11] He worked a lot with Ice-T.

[01:29:13] And Wesley Snipes.

[01:29:14] On a few other things.

[01:29:15] And then.

[01:29:15] Sally Richardson.

[01:29:17] Yeah.

[01:29:17] Yeah.

[01:29:18] He did.

[01:29:18] He worked with him.

[01:29:18] Quite a few.

[01:29:19] On different things.

[01:29:19] Blair Underwood.

[01:29:20] Yeah.

[01:29:21] What was this one movie.

[01:29:22] That Ice-T.

[01:29:24] Did.

[01:29:24] With Amy.

[01:29:26] Amy.

[01:29:27] Susie Amos.

[01:29:28] Who's married.

[01:29:29] Judgment Day.

[01:29:30] Yes.

[01:29:31] Oh my god.

[01:29:32] He's.

[01:29:33] I love it.

[01:29:33] He.

[01:29:34] He acted in that.

[01:29:35] And then.

[01:29:36] He also directed that too.

[01:29:37] Yeah.

[01:29:37] He's the main bad guy.

[01:29:39] And he got.

[01:29:40] Yeah.

[01:29:41] I think the reason I love him and Lou Diamond Phillips so much is they can take a nothing

[01:29:46] role and do so much more with it.

[01:29:48] But then they stayed relevant.

[01:29:50] Like if you didn't see any of the movies, big mainstream ensemble movies they were doing,

[01:29:56] then you saw a lot of these indie films.

[01:29:58] They were getting released on Showtime and HBO.

[01:30:02] And it didn't matter what the budget was.

[01:30:06] They were still the best part of the production because they.

[01:30:09] They just made so much great use of their concepts and time.

[01:30:13] And it's like, okay, cool.

[01:30:14] You elevated what could have been a generic B movie and you made it bigger than it was.

[01:30:19] That's awesome.

[01:30:21] Yeah, man.

[01:30:21] But getting back the power though, man.

[01:30:23] Like that show.

[01:30:24] Yeah.

[01:30:25] Sorry.

[01:30:25] Sorry, guys.

[01:30:25] We're talking to all sorts of the crew.

[01:30:27] But there's a lot of great filmmakers on this.

[01:30:30] Every time we have a conversation, dude, we always.

[01:30:35] One.

[01:30:36] We just love filmmaking in general, man.

[01:30:38] Oh, and I think they did.

[01:30:40] Courtney Kemp and 50 definitely hired some great people.

[01:30:44] The George Tillman Jr.

[01:30:46] Who's done The Hate U Give and Minim Honor.

[01:30:49] He directed a bunch of episodes, including the pilot.

[01:30:51] And I think.

[01:30:53] It's just.

[01:30:54] Again, like I think it appealed to a lot of people.

[01:30:57] It wasn't just I'm doing the next gangster show and it's going to be edgy on, you know,

[01:31:02] premium channels.

[01:31:04] Again, like, you know, yeah, it's easy to do just your generic type gangster type shit.

[01:31:09] But like.

[01:31:11] What makes these like going back to the Godfather, you know, going back to the story.

[01:31:15] It's the.

[01:31:16] You were my friend.

[01:31:17] Sorry.

[01:31:21] I know.

[01:31:22] Was you afraid of.

[01:31:23] It was, you know, stopping me in the back.

[01:31:26] No.

[01:31:27] I don't know why I just did a crappy Italian accent.

[01:31:32] But like, again.

[01:31:35] Story with the characters.

[01:31:36] But, you know, I mean, why do people love mafia history so much, man?

[01:31:41] I mean, I mean, I've studied mafia history from the beginning of it to be able to fight families.

[01:31:49] It's just like all the dictators of the world.

[01:31:51] It's so funny when they have a contradiction.

[01:31:53] You're like, whoa, this person thought this way, even though their day job was doing this.

[01:31:58] Wow.

[01:32:00] OK.

[01:32:00] It's the personalities and the personal stories, man, that make these type of shows work.

[01:32:05] Because, like, I mean, yeah, you could easily have these guys be like one dimensional, you know, common day gangsters.

[01:32:13] You know what I mean?

[01:32:13] You know.

[01:32:14] But they're not.

[01:32:15] I mean, they're multifaceted.

[01:32:17] They're multi-layered.

[01:32:18] Just like people in real life, man.

[01:32:20] We're not one dimensional.

[01:32:21] Some people are, but those people are just fucking stupid.

[01:32:26] I love it.

[01:32:27] Yes.

[01:32:27] That's true.

[01:32:28] It is like, OK.

[01:32:30] All these, even like Tommy, like Tommy is the most complex character of all, man.

[01:32:35] Like, you know, he.

[01:32:37] How about the fact that he's got the worst girlfriend of all time?

[01:32:40] And, you know.

[01:32:42] She just has a.

[01:32:44] When it comes to women, man, he just has bad luck.

[01:32:46] He has terrible taste.

[01:32:47] And it's just so wild.

[01:32:49] It's like he keeps picking all these sociopaths who.

[01:32:51] And it's so funny.

[01:32:52] She is trying to turn him against everybody.

[01:32:55] And he's like, no, no.

[01:32:56] I might have an issue with ghosts, but I don't.

[01:32:59] I'm like the unofficial, like.

[01:33:01] God brought him to his kids.

[01:33:03] So I'm not.

[01:33:04] No.

[01:33:05] Like, there's one thing Tommy will never do.

[01:33:08] And that's be a rat.

[01:33:09] Like the moment you mention a rat and working with the cops, he going to kill you.

[01:33:13] It's so wild.

[01:33:14] He had to dispose of his girlfriend.

[01:33:16] And he he's just like the sex was good, but she was going to kill everybody in my world.

[01:33:22] Can't have it.

[01:33:23] Can't have it.

[01:33:24] She was going to ride.

[01:33:25] She was going to ride.

[01:33:27] She was trying to turn me against all Tasha's friends.

[01:33:31] That ain't cool.

[01:33:34] Who you are.

[01:33:35] If you turn to a rat.

[01:33:36] Oh, man.

[01:33:38] But like, wait till you watch Full Force Man with him.

[01:33:42] Because you have characters that come back from power.

[01:33:45] That makes me hit.

[01:33:46] Who's your favorite of the bunch?

[01:33:48] Like, my favorite is 2-Bit.

[01:33:49] Especially when Tariq is getting stalked by the hitman of the college.

[01:33:53] And he's like, how much?

[01:33:55] I'll kill him for you.

[01:33:59] You're a hitman now.

[01:34:01] 2-Bit.

[01:34:01] Okay, cool.

[01:34:02] And it's like he hates ghosts, but he respects them at the same time.

[01:34:06] He's like, no, I won't mess with him.

[01:34:07] I'll mess with Tommy, though.

[01:34:08] Fuck that dude.

[01:34:09] And I love that.

[01:34:11] I don't know what it is.

[01:34:13] The actor should do more, but his humor just reminds me of some of the humor.

[01:34:17] Like the boondocks kind of.

[01:34:18] It's like, how much do you want more?

[01:34:20] The reason why people love 2-Bit so much is because he has, one, he's clearly not scared of anybody.

[01:34:25] He's not scared of Tommy.

[01:34:27] He's not scared of ghosts.

[01:34:28] He's not scared of nobody.

[01:34:30] But he has perfect timing in delivery with his lines.

[01:34:34] And like when him and Spanky were together, it was just comedic gold.

[01:34:39] Oh, that's true.

[01:34:40] Spanky is just an awkward nerd.

[01:34:42] And he's just like, come on, dude.

[01:34:44] Man up.

[01:34:45] Get your cheeseburger when it's all said and done.

[01:34:48] And he was a rat.

[01:34:50] Like, he said he's food.

[01:34:51] And like, you know, he was done with.

[01:34:53] But that's why I keep 2-Bit around.

[01:34:56] Unless you have like something in bright letters on your shirt saying, don't mess with me.

[01:35:01] He's going to mess with you.

[01:35:03] But yeah, I like 2-Bit's character.

[01:35:06] He's the one character, again, who has not changed.

[01:35:08] He's just, he's him.

[01:35:11] He knows who he is.

[01:35:12] He knows what he wants.

[01:35:13] He's just him.

[01:35:13] He's not scared of nobody.

[01:35:15] He could have easily been wasted.

[01:35:16] At first, you see him just in the background in season 2.

[01:35:19] And then he gets more to do.

[01:35:20] Like, I'm going to say, as a character, if you notice, he's the one character.

[01:35:25] Like, he's not, he's one of the lower level guys that literally is not scared of anybody.

[01:35:33] Oh, don't worry.

[01:35:34] And kudos to them for doing something with all these characters.

[01:35:37] Because so many shows go downhill by either having too much, too many people, or not doing anything with them.

[01:35:45] And so then, when the actor gets bored, it's like, well, now you've got to find someone else to take their place.

[01:35:50] Because you've wasted an entire season having them do nothing.

[01:35:53] Oh, yeah.

[01:35:54] The actor who played Jesus, man.

[01:35:56] Like, you know, he trained a lot to, you know, get in shape and be ready to play the character like he was in Graphicum.

[01:36:03] If you're wasting me, I'm going to leave.

[01:36:06] Well, he basically said, like, you know, hey, you know, they wasted his character quite a bit.

[01:36:12] He did do nothing.

[01:36:13] Like, look at Julio.

[01:36:15] They've done more with him as he's gone on instead of just saying yes, sir, no, sir to Tommy and James.

[01:36:24] Like, Julio was a good character.

[01:36:27] He could have easily just been, I'm doing nothing.

[01:36:30] And they would catch him with his pants down.

[01:36:34] He's like, oh, boss.

[01:36:36] He's about to have something.

[01:36:37] That's the hand of a good writer, though.

[01:36:40] Like, you don't waste your character.

[01:36:41] Yeah, dude.

[01:36:42] I can't tell you how many shows I've had to give up.

[01:36:44] I'm like, they're not going to.

[01:36:46] And I can't blame the actor for leaving.

[01:36:48] It's like you were giving them nothing to do except arrest someone at the end of the episode or just be the smart scientist in the room.

[01:36:55] Okay, that's going to get old after five episodes.

[01:37:03] Carlos Luis, who's played by Luis Antonio Ramos, who you might know from The Shield and a few other shows.

[01:37:09] I thought he's a very handsome Puerto Rican guy.

[01:37:12] But for once, I was glad to see him be a key, like, kingpin.

[01:37:17] Oh, yeah, yeah.

[01:37:18] And he's like, okay, cool.

[01:37:19] So he's progressing as an actor.

[01:37:21] He's got to be eating this rollout because, you know, he's the head of the Soldado Nation.

[01:37:26] And he's distributing the drugs for ghosts.

[01:37:28] And see, that's what made it more interesting to me.

[01:37:31] Because it's like, okay, instead of Breaking Bad, where the main guy accidentally works his way into being a drug dealer by night.

[01:37:39] I like how they got this whole code.

[01:37:41] You're showing them how the sausage is made, so to speak.

[01:37:45] And instead of just, we don't have enough supplies, or we're in a turf war with someone else, or someone's misbehaving at the nightclub, and it happened to be one of the gangsters' girlfriends.

[01:37:55] And there's just like so many other layers.

[01:37:57] It's like, oh, shit.

[01:37:59] I just got, you know, blackmailed by this guy.

[01:38:01] How are we going to deal with him?

[01:38:02] Or I just, you know, there's a target on my back.

[01:38:05] Ghost, what do I do?

[01:38:07] Can't distribute stuff for you.

[01:38:09] And we go back.

[01:38:10] And I would never rat you out.

[01:38:12] And I liked how it was just like, okay.

[01:38:16] So the robots are doing me dirty.

[01:38:19] And all these other guys are playing around.

[01:38:21] There's almost so many factors that we're not just working together.

[01:38:25] There's a code.

[01:38:27] With this show, you know, they did a great job of establishing the conflicts these characters face.

[01:38:35] Instead of a good actor just putting on an accident in performance, it's like, okay, no stereotypes here.

[01:38:42] Because, like, establishing the conflicts within the story, how these characters react with the choices they make,

[01:38:49] they did a good job of establishing these elements with their characters and their personalities.

[01:38:56] And, you know, you have, you can have a character in the same situation.

[01:39:01] Two characters in the same situation.

[01:39:03] You see how their personalities show how they may solve it in a totally different way.

[01:39:09] Tommy, he is a prime way of handling something and just kill them, motherfucker.

[01:39:16] Yes.

[01:39:17] He's not a subtle man.

[01:39:19] And...

[01:39:19] The also, on the other hand, may, you know, no, let's not kill this dude.

[01:39:23] Let's use it.

[01:39:24] Let's use it.

[01:39:24] And it's the crime underworld.

[01:39:25] So I like how it's like, like you say, there's no stone turned untouched.

[01:39:31] So when you get to the first season of book two and they introduce, it's like, we're going to be doing more about...

[01:39:38] We're giving you more than just other dons, other queenpins that are at large.

[01:39:45] We're doing more than just drugs trading.

[01:39:47] We're doing more than nightclubs.

[01:39:49] We're doing more legal battles.

[01:39:52] But here's Tariq's unstable Stansfield University College.

[01:39:56] And here's the shithead professor, Jabari.

[01:40:00] Who is like a toxic alpha male.

[01:40:04] It's like, you know, the minute he first appears, you're like, uh-oh.

[01:40:09] It's so funny.

[01:40:10] I just called it as it was happening.

[01:40:12] I'm like, sleazeball in five, four, three, two.

[01:40:16] Yep.

[01:40:16] Sure enough, he's sleeping with every other female professor who should know better.

[01:40:23] And when he gets killed, like, by accident, like, and they set him up as making it look like he, like, lost it one day and was doing drugs.

[01:40:35] It's like, he is doing other unethical stuff.

[01:40:37] But I like how Tariq and others, like, pin it on him.

[01:40:40] And it's just like, man.

[01:40:43] That is so wild.

[01:40:44] I mean, you.

[01:40:46] That is just so wild.

[01:40:48] It is like, it was a Tarantino moment, for lack of a better word.

[01:40:50] I was like, yep.

[01:40:52] I mean, that one situation in that, that set off a chain of a whole other shit.

[01:40:58] Yeah, because you know it's not going to be one and done.

[01:41:01] The criminals know he didn't really do it.

[01:41:03] The public and law enforcement is confused.

[01:41:07] They're like, okay, we knew he was shady.

[01:41:09] We didn't know it was that shady.

[01:41:12] Oh, man.

[01:41:12] I mean, that, like, setting him up, actually, again, that goes back to show why I think Tariq is actually not as smart as I think he is.

[01:41:20] Because half the time he, if you look at Tariq's history, his track record happens.

[01:41:23] You always would have set something up to where he's like, I can't argue with you on that at all.

[01:41:28] Every time Tariq sets something up, his plans always turn to shit.

[01:41:32] Or it's someone else's idea he takes credit for, and you're like, eh.

[01:41:37] Think about that a little harder.

[01:41:39] If you look at his character on power, like, dude, like, you're nowhere near as what your dad is.

[01:41:46] I think that's the other issue.

[01:41:47] Like, he took his advice from Tommy, but here's the thing.

[01:41:50] Tommy knew how to make his blunt decisions and back them up.

[01:41:54] He hasn't had any street times, so he's having to learn as he goes.

[01:41:58] Well, let's go back to season...

[01:42:02] You know, Tommy, man, he straight up told Tariq, I never wanted this for you.

[01:42:06] I didn't want you on this shit.

[01:42:08] And, you know, that's the advice from Tommy he should have taken.

[01:42:13] Get the fuck out with this shit and live the life of it.

[01:42:16] You're not cut out for it, so don't.

[01:42:19] Yeah, he's an intelligent guy.

[01:42:20] But if you look at, when you get caught up with the totality of book two, what the fuck?

[01:42:27] Yeah, he's done some things here and there, but for the most part, he's...

[01:42:30] Like, for instance, I can't blame Ghost for having to work with Tate.

[01:42:34] He needed some political leverage just so he could tell law enforcement, stop fucking with me.

[01:42:39] That's politics in general.

[01:42:40] That's just normal.

[01:42:41] He's like, okay, this guy's gullible.

[01:42:44] He's very transparent.

[01:42:45] He's saying everything that anybody could say, but he knows how to just still the energy in the room, so to speak.

[01:42:54] Yeah, I mean, Tate, the reason why he got far as he did, because he was a cop, so he has that on his record.

[01:42:59] It's kind of like a veteran when they run.

[01:43:01] They just run on the Patriot card, you know?

[01:43:05] Like, but yeah, dude, like, going back to Tariq's character, man, it's like...

[01:43:09] That's why I don't like his character, because he's just so full of shit.

[01:43:12] But, like, there are points in book two, like, I'm like, okay, they kind of redeem him a little bit in my eyes, but at the same time, it's like, how fucking stupid are you, dude?

[01:43:24] Like, yeah, you're more like your father than you think, but at the same time, a lot of what your father had, you don't have.

[01:43:31] Your father wouldn't even have been in that situation to begin with.

[01:43:34] No, that's a good point.

[01:43:35] I think they could have introduced him a lot better.

[01:43:37] I mean, I think it really only helps that the show is kind of a third-person perspective, so you're able to kind of...

[01:43:44] I don't think that, you know, they introduced him poorly.

[01:43:48] I think that was the whole point of his character in general, was to show this kid who was mad at his mom and dad, because, yeah, they lied to him about things.

[01:43:59] And, um, I get that.

[01:44:00] Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of annoying characters who couldn't carry a show.

[01:44:04] Yeah, but...

[01:44:05] Because they wouldn't have anything interesting going on around him.

[01:44:07] Like, if you did a show about Kim Bauer on 24, I wouldn't even turn in and be like, nope.

[01:44:14] Sure, I mean, I like her character, but no, I won't be interested in watching it.

[01:44:17] I like the acting, I just like, the character is just there to...

[01:44:21] I mean, she does a couple things in, like, season three.

[01:44:24] She does a few wise things, yes, in three and seven.

[01:44:26] Yeah, in three and, um, she worked for CTU in season three.

[01:44:32] Yeah.

[01:44:34] But yeah, I wouldn't want to watch the show dedicated just to her.

[01:44:38] Um, but yeah, like, with Tyree's character, like, look, like, he got his sister killed.

[01:44:45] He...

[01:44:45] And he didn't own up to it ever.

[01:44:47] He was just like, oh, I'm depressed.

[01:44:49] Like, you know, running like a little bitch while his sister was actually brave.

[01:44:54] That's the other irony, yes.

[01:44:56] And I'm just sad.

[01:44:58] After I watched that episode, I'm like, oh, damn you producers, you did not just kill the sister.

[01:45:05] Like, we got this boy having a hard way of a fucking bitch while his sister was talking shit to the dude.

[01:45:11] Like...

[01:45:11] Yeah.

[01:45:12] And then, like, from that point on, it's just, it was fucked up.

[01:45:16] Dre is interesting how he goes.

[01:45:18] You just go, okay, so he's full of it, and Ghost does keep him in line.

[01:45:22] Oh, now he's got a big head.

[01:45:23] And now he wants to play games with both Tommy and Ghost while getting...

[01:45:27] Becoming allies with their rivals.

[01:45:31] And so that was interesting.

[01:45:33] Like, you know, that he's similar to Tyreek to a degree.

[01:45:38] You know, Ghost is trying to kill him.

[01:45:43] Oh, yeah.

[01:45:43] He actually did make him as bitch for a bit.

[01:45:46] But, like, you know, he goes...

[01:45:49] I was like, Sax.

[01:45:49] I love to hate him.

[01:45:50] I'm just like, okay.

[01:45:52] You're not so...

[01:45:53] Like, Dre got himself killed.

[01:45:54] I mean, he had everything.

[01:45:56] He had money.

[01:45:56] He had new...

[01:45:57] He had new fucking identification.

[01:46:00] They were going to Vegas.

[01:46:01] But he couldn't let it go.

[01:46:03] Again, like, with that episode where Ghost just talks down to every fucking body, right?

[01:46:11] Yeah.

[01:46:13] It was the episode he got shot into.

[01:46:16] That set up all...

[01:46:18] He's just talking shit there.

[01:46:19] But, like, he couldn't let that last conversation go from Ghost that he had.

[01:46:24] Like, dude, you had everything.

[01:46:25] You had money.

[01:46:26] New to IDs.

[01:46:28] You had your old lady and your kid.

[01:46:30] You're going to Vegas.

[01:46:32] You're free, man.

[01:46:33] You're out to shit.

[01:46:34] It was still done, though, for also just showing how they survived using social media and rumors and other stuff.

[01:46:43] I think that's why the show just really took off for me.

[01:46:47] It goes back, and this is something that...

[01:46:52] It's that old-school water cooler talk.

[01:46:55] I mean, we live in an age of social media where everything is...

[01:46:59] I love it.

[01:46:59] Yeah.

[01:47:00] Good pros and cons.

[01:47:01] But, remember, growing up back in the day, you know, like, when a show was on, you know, you watched it.

[01:47:07] Then, like, you didn't know what the fuck was...

[01:47:09] You would go out and talk with people, right?

[01:47:12] You know, like, you let that water...

[01:47:13] You know, like, shit, you see that episode?

[01:47:15] You see what fucking happened to him?

[01:47:16] Like, you're...

[01:47:18] The whole week, you're, like, talking and getting ready for the next episode.

[01:47:22] We still see that with social media, but...

[01:47:26] But, I mean, you got your fucking trolls and all that other shit.

[01:47:29] Unfortunately.

[01:47:30] I mean, look at some of the latest shows that have been on.

[01:47:32] It's like, you don't determine what does or doesn't get canceled, guys.

[01:47:36] Yeah.

[01:47:37] Come on.

[01:47:37] They really don't.

[01:47:39] I mean, this is, like, we had to talk last time.

[01:47:41] And shame on the studios for having to bow to it.

[01:47:43] Oh, they don't like it.

[01:47:44] I guess we'll retreat.

[01:47:46] Yeah, you know, like, fans really think they own franchises.

[01:47:50] Like, you know, just because you're a fan of something...

[01:47:52] If I don't like something, I stop watching it.

[01:47:55] Yeah.

[01:47:56] I don't go, oh, you like that?

[01:47:58] You're a dipshit.

[01:47:59] Well, fuck you, dude.

[01:48:02] This last time would piss me off, like, years so...

[01:48:05] Like, if you honestly don't like the writing and don't watch the show,

[01:48:08] or if you think you can do better, go write a fucking script.

[01:48:11] Go pitch it.

[01:48:12] Bingo.

[01:48:12] If you think you can do better, and don't say,

[01:48:15] oh, I could write in my sleep.

[01:48:16] No, you really can't.

[01:48:18] No, you can't.

[01:48:18] You might be able to write,

[01:48:20] but can you go through all the different pitch meetings and compromises?

[01:48:24] Probably not.

[01:48:26] Exactly.

[01:48:27] It's like, you know...

[01:48:28] This business will break you.

[01:48:30] So, unfortunately...

[01:48:32] I don't really miss my doing extra work,

[01:48:36] because I was on so many sets where people were talking smack.

[01:48:39] I'm like, the lead is literally across the room from you.

[01:48:42] He or she can hear you.

[01:48:43] Why are you doing this?

[01:48:45] Because they're just...

[01:48:47] He's such an ego.

[01:48:49] He's learning his lines while his stuntman,

[01:48:52] or stand-in, goes and sets up the scene.

[01:48:54] That's not being an ego maniac.

[01:48:57] Let's be honest, though.

[01:48:58] In this industry, you have to have somewhat of an ego.

[01:49:02] I mean, everybody has somewhat of an ego to a degree,

[01:49:05] and it's not necessarily an ego.

[01:49:08] So, it's just confidence in your ability.

[01:49:09] Some cases, yeah, you got some arrogant assholes out there.

[01:49:12] I mean, it's just life.

[01:49:14] But in many cases, it's not ego, really.

[01:49:16] It's just I'm confident in my ability and what I'm fucking doing.

[01:49:19] I need to get into the zone.

[01:49:21] I'm not holding up acting because of a shitty boyfriend on set or anything.

[01:49:27] People are dumb.

[01:49:29] Unfortunately.

[01:49:31] But yeah, I do like Power Dude.

[01:49:32] It's a great show.

[01:49:34] I literally watched it the day it premiered, and the day it ended.

[01:49:38] There's always something to take away from it.

[01:49:41] It's not like any other show where you're like, okay, that was a Weakers episode I skip over,

[01:49:46] or this or that.

[01:49:47] It's like, no, it all pretty much ran together, and surprises were earned.

[01:49:51] Twists were very twisty.

[01:49:53] Like, good luck putting a Wikipedia up of it.

[01:49:56] But it's so weird.

[01:49:59] But you can go back and rewatch and still find out something new you didn't catch before.

[01:50:05] Like, like Sondra Anarchy.

[01:50:07] I guess I'd love that show.

[01:50:08] I watched that show.

[01:50:09] No, that's a good point.

[01:50:11] Yellowstone, I would rewatch maybe some episodes.

[01:50:14] I don't think I'd rewatch every season because there is some messy stuff in there.

[01:50:17] Ray Donovan, I might rewatch.

[01:50:19] I would just have to skip a few scenes with the annoying siblings.

[01:50:22] Like, this show, like, I wouldn't want to skip for anything.

[01:50:26] Like, I just, kind of like Breaking Bad.

[01:50:29] I just feel like...

[01:50:31] You get immersed in the story, you can't miss a beat.

[01:50:34] It's all, yeah, it's all one giant onion.

[01:50:37] I can't strip away any layer.

[01:50:40] Looking at Lakeisha, like, I liked how, okay, so Tasha's got a legit friend.

[01:50:45] She's briefly romantic with Tommy.

[01:50:47] The creator, Courtney Kemp, said she wouldn't have killed this character off.

[01:50:50] But truth be told, I thought that whole arc...

[01:50:56] I liked it.

[01:50:57] I liked it.

[01:50:57] Yeah, yeah, no.

[01:50:58] I thought, like, without this, you don't show...

[01:51:03] We don't get the Tasha going to the dark side more, and we don't...

[01:51:06] Well, we don't get...

[01:51:08] Without that, you don't get the...

[01:51:10] That's what causes the...

[01:51:12] Remember, Tommy and Tasha in the beginning, they're, like, best friends.

[01:51:17] They're tight as fuck.

[01:51:18] But that issue, that conflict, causes a complete dynamic change in their relationship, where

[01:51:26] in the end, he had a gun to her head, and she would be dead if he hadn't chosen enough to

[01:51:31] pull that trigger.

[01:51:32] And that shit plays off, continues in book two.

[01:51:37] And finally gets resolved.

[01:51:39] I'm not going to say how, but that finally gets resolved later in power book two.

[01:51:43] So again, even though that Tisha character is gone, still played a huge fucking...

[01:51:52] There's all kinds of parts of it.

[01:51:55] I liked how...

[01:51:56] And she didn't play it as the role...

[01:51:59] You know, Lala Anthony has done a lot of MTV and everything.

[01:52:03] But, like, I actually thought she was the right kind of role for this, because...

[01:52:09] She didn't play it as a bimbo.

[01:52:11] She didn't play it as a clueless best friend.

[01:52:13] Like, she was just like, I want to do fashion.

[01:52:15] And this was like...

[01:52:19] Like, don't get me wrong.

[01:52:20] I like Sopranos, but there are some subplots that I'm like, that didn't really go anywhere,

[01:52:23] even though that's technically the point.

[01:52:25] It was to show this person was compromised and going to go downhill from here.

[01:52:29] I thought this was good at just showing.

[01:52:31] It's like, okay, Tasha's got some legit friends, but they're not so clean cut either.

[01:52:36] And, you know...

[01:52:39] She was mainly basically really clean cut until Tasha kind of manipulated her into using her shop as to run her money.

[01:52:48] Yeah.

[01:52:49] It was like, yep.

[01:52:52] She, you know, yeah.

[01:52:54] And she wasn't dumb or anything.

[01:52:55] She literally got converted.

[01:52:58] Like, she just thought, oh, that sounds good.

[01:53:00] Okay, no one gets hurt, really.

[01:53:03] I mean, that's what she was told, you know.

[01:53:05] But then, of course, that's...

[01:53:06] In situations like that, that's never a guarantee.

[01:53:10] You can't guarantee safety in that shit.

[01:53:13] Anything pop off in that shit.

[01:53:15] So, you know, well, her character, you know, she...

[01:53:18] She was on the rat.

[01:53:20] She had the papers.

[01:53:24] She had the papers.

[01:53:24] No, and that's just something you just don't fucking do.

[01:53:26] If you're...

[01:53:27] She chose that...

[01:53:28] I mean, she chose to fucking help launder money.

[01:53:31] She didn't have to do that.

[01:53:32] That means you chose to be in that life.

[01:53:34] Therefore, you know, there are things you just don't fucking...

[01:53:39] You're not a civilian.

[01:53:40] You're part of that life now.

[01:53:41] There's certain things you just don't do.

[01:53:45] And, yeah.

[01:53:46] It was a fucked up thing.

[01:53:48] A best friend killing their best friend like that.

[01:53:50] But she was on the rat.

[01:53:51] And everybody was going to go to jail.

[01:53:53] So, I mean...

[01:53:54] True.

[01:53:55] Your own sons.

[01:53:56] I mean...

[01:53:58] Yeah, it was fucked up, but...

[01:54:00] And every scene really does serve a purpose.

[01:54:02] There was never a moment where I'm just like...

[01:54:05] They're out of ideas.

[01:54:06] Or they're just trying to get it to the 20-minute angle.

[01:54:09] Like, even the sex scenes.

[01:54:10] They are hot as fuck.

[01:54:11] Don't get me wrong.

[01:54:12] They are spicy, but they are never a game of phones level where you're like...

[01:54:15] That felt like a soft core porn.

[01:54:17] I mean, they were, you know...

[01:54:19] They're not intuitive.

[01:54:20] You know, they were used...

[01:54:21] And at the time, something's going on.

[01:54:23] Like, someone's actually talking during the scene.

[01:54:26] And like, okay.

[01:54:26] We're seeing them go to the dark side furthermore.

[01:54:29] You know?

[01:54:29] We're seeing them embrace their shame.

[01:54:33] It's not a smut scene.

[01:54:34] It's an actual intimate scene.

[01:54:35] It's not a random...

[01:54:36] It's not a smut scene.

[01:54:37] It's like, okay.

[01:54:38] Cool.

[01:54:38] This is spicy, but...

[01:54:40] Then he's having flashbacks.

[01:54:41] Flashbacks.

[01:54:42] You know?

[01:54:42] Especially in Ghosts.

[01:54:43] Like, he is having flashbacks going back to his...

[01:54:45] Like, ah, shit.

[01:54:46] That's right.

[01:54:46] This did just happen.

[01:54:48] They're showing, like, these two characters.

[01:54:50] They're not just...

[01:54:51] You know?

[01:54:51] It's not a sex scene.

[01:54:52] It's not just the network gave us ideas and we're going to use our freedom to...

[01:54:56] But no, they're using that to show the intimacy and the connection between those two characters.

[01:55:02] Absolutely.

[01:55:03] Yeah, they're having sex, but they're showing...

[01:55:05] A lesser filmmaker would have been like, okay.

[01:55:07] You're just going to have, you know...

[01:55:09] Just a...

[01:55:09] You know?

[01:55:10] A wank scene.

[01:55:13] You know?

[01:55:15] And I get it.

[01:55:15] I get it.

[01:55:16] It's hard to do.

[01:55:18] There's plenty of ways to misinterpret.

[01:55:20] There were stories actually with them shooting those scenes, man.

[01:55:22] They were very professional, but there were funny things happening in those scenes.

[01:55:27] No, that's true.

[01:55:28] Because, like, 50...

[01:55:28] He's a bad boy.

[01:55:29] We like him for it.

[01:55:30] But, like, I haven't heard anything toxic on these productions or anything.

[01:55:34] So, that's great.

[01:55:36] Because I guess my heart gets broken when I hear about, oh, that guy you loved, he was a douche to everybody on scene.

[01:55:42] Fucking good.

[01:55:43] I mean, not just with power, but if you watch his other stuff, he's actually a really good actor, man.

[01:55:48] Like, he's a good actor.

[01:55:51] He gets his part.

[01:55:52] He actually does...

[01:55:54] I want him in more.

[01:55:55] Omari should be in more.

[01:55:56] And he was also just a total pro.

[01:55:59] Like, there were some...

[01:56:01] But, again, how things kind of ended with power.

[01:56:06] I mean, he was asked back to come to do, like, actual ghost scenes on book two from what he said in the interview.

[01:56:14] But he didn't do it.

[01:56:16] Well, and he wasn't a douche about it.

[01:56:19] And he made it pretty clear.

[01:56:21] He's like, okay, I don't...

[01:56:22] I'm ready to go to the next stage of my career.

[01:56:24] There were some toxic fans online saying, oh, I get...

[01:56:28] Like, they made an off-color joke.

[01:56:29] I guess Ghost isn't coming back.

[01:56:32] And if he was any other celeb, he could have lashed out at that idiot.

[01:56:37] But he said, nope, I'm not going to respond to a troll.

[01:56:40] What's the point?

[01:56:41] He's a nobody.

[01:56:42] I mean, at the end of the day, yeah, fans don't...

[01:56:45] Why do I care about what this moron who watches the show thinks?

[01:56:49] I mean, fans don't know all the behind-the-scenes stuff.

[01:56:53] Well, they just wanted an angry reaction from him.

[01:56:55] He's like, I'm not going to give that to you.

[01:56:57] Because that's what they want.

[01:56:58] Because you're going to give him 15 minutes of pain.

[01:56:59] And they're going to...

[01:57:00] How things are going out.

[01:57:01] They're just going to post that shit.

[01:57:02] Why this actor hates working on this show.

[01:57:05] Yeah, he's like, nope.

[01:57:06] He didn't work on the show.

[01:57:08] He had disagreements with some of the writing stuff toward the end.

[01:57:12] But for the most part, he loved the show.

[01:57:14] He had issues with production people behind the scenes taking...

[01:57:19] As in studio executives, taking credit for things that were built up to him.

[01:57:24] But never giving him the full...

[01:57:25] He never got a fucking producer's credit on the show.

[01:57:28] They wouldn't give it to him.

[01:57:29] Oh, that's bullshit.

[01:57:31] A common thing for lead actors on shows to get a producer.

[01:57:35] They didn't even offer him a producer role?

[01:57:37] Okay, well, so now that's...

[01:57:39] I take it back.

[01:57:39] There was one toxic thing that happened.

[01:57:41] It was the 90s.

[01:57:42] He asked for it and tried to get it.

[01:57:44] He was denied it.

[01:57:46] Oh, that's bullshit.

[01:57:47] You know, other people, other shows, that's a common thing nowadays when you're up for a lead.

[01:57:52] He was denied that producer credit.

[01:57:54] And like...

[01:57:55] Maybe that's why he said, I love the fame and fortune this show brought me.

[01:57:59] I'm not going to...

[01:58:00] I need a better production.

[01:58:02] Watch his interview with Jon Bernthal on his Wild Wands podcast.

[01:58:08] Go watch that interview on YouTube when we're done.

[01:58:11] And watch what he says.

[01:58:15] He doesn't name names.

[01:58:16] He's professional.

[01:58:17] But he does speak his mind some about issues behind the scenes.

[01:58:22] Omari or Jon?

[01:58:23] Omari.

[01:58:24] He's on Jon's show.

[01:58:25] Oh, okay.

[01:58:26] Oh.

[01:58:27] Yeah, that's right.

[01:58:27] Because they were in...

[01:58:29] Yeah.

[01:58:30] Um...

[01:58:31] Omari Hardwick, Jon Bernthal podcast episode will come up.

[01:58:35] And listen to what he asks.

[01:58:37] And you'll get...

[01:58:39] And this is why fans now are starting to get a better understanding of why he...

[01:58:44] What is...

[01:58:45] He's starting to come out now, years later.

[01:58:48] Little by little.

[01:58:48] Still being professional, but just talking about certain things about...

[01:58:52] Mm-hmm.

[01:58:52] Like, it was mainly with the executives and, you know, stuff like that.

[01:58:58] You know?

[01:58:59] It seems like 50 didn't speak up until he's like, oh, I hate this.

[01:59:03] I'm not gonna work on this show anymore.

[01:59:05] Well, I mean, 50 had no issue with 50.

[01:59:07] Like, 50, like, he commended 50.

[01:59:08] Go watch the interview when we're...

[01:59:10] I promise.

[01:59:10] I promise.

[01:59:12] But yeah, dude, like, again, like, dude, this was a great show.

[01:59:16] I loved it.

[01:59:17] Totally.

[01:59:18] I'm digging the spinoffs now to watch them.

[01:59:22] Full force final season starts next year.

[01:59:25] I'm looking forward to that.

[01:59:27] So I'll see how book two ends.

[01:59:29] It doesn't feel like it's out of ideas.

[01:59:32] Unlike other stuff where you're just like, oh, why?

[01:59:35] You know, like I said, Raising Canaan has been...

[01:59:39] It's gonna have...

[01:59:40] Got renewed for two more seasons.

[01:59:43] They got the...

[01:59:44] I still need to see Omari's horror film spell,

[01:59:46] but I liked him in Army of the Dead and Reach Me.

[01:59:51] Did you ever see the Ada DiVarni film, Middle of Nowhere?

[01:59:58] No, I have not.

[01:59:59] Okay, so that's just a movie where he's an imprisoned husband.

[02:00:06] I didn't like him in Shot Caller, though.

[02:00:07] I thought he was good in that.

[02:00:09] Yeah, Shot Caller.

[02:00:09] Hence why he's on Bernthal.

[02:00:11] They go back a ways.

[02:00:12] But definitely some similar actors where they're just like, hey, you know,

[02:00:16] we've been in all kinds of productions, but giving it 100, never...

[02:00:21] I mean, but yeah, Omari's been in so many things that people forget he was in,

[02:00:26] like Gridiron Gang.

[02:00:28] I've seen him in some other guest spots.

[02:00:32] He...

[02:00:33] The charisma is impeccable, and I commend him on that.

[02:00:38] Um...

[02:00:39] And he's trying all these different kinds of roles.

[02:00:42] It's like...

[02:00:42] Any of us would be chicken shits to want to even attempt.

[02:00:45] Just like he's...

[02:00:46] He's going to all kinds of roles where he's like, you know, I commend you for that,

[02:00:50] because that's a difficult role to even picture.

[02:00:53] So, you know, like...

[02:00:54] Kudos.

[02:00:57] And...

[02:00:57] Yeah, man.

[02:00:57] It wasn't just...

[02:01:00] I mean, Ghost was just cool in that he was more than just,

[02:01:04] I'm a street soldier with various friends and enemies and allies.

[02:01:08] It was more than, I'm a family man, I'm trying to stay legit,

[02:01:12] but obviously that's not going to happen.

[02:01:14] It was more, I guess...

[02:01:16] I dug the character because it was more...

[02:01:20] I lack of a better word.

[02:01:21] And see, this is why it's a good show.

[02:01:22] It's hard to even put into words.

[02:01:23] It's...

[02:01:25] I think he...

[02:01:28] Really...

[02:01:29] You know, like all the other characters,

[02:01:31] they have people they could have easily dealt with years ago.

[02:01:36] He had a lot of inescapable scenarios,

[02:01:38] and he had to play it cool every step of the way.

[02:01:42] He could lie with conviction.

[02:01:45] He could protect with conviction.

[02:01:47] He had so many backup plans.

[02:01:51] When I want to see a hero, or in this case, a villain protagonist,

[02:01:55] strike back at all the bigger bad apples,

[02:01:58] I love it when they keep the taut tension.

[02:02:01] And he had just so many other things.

[02:02:02] Like when he and Tommy are suiting up and still ambushed,

[02:02:07] and having a...

[02:02:08] Like...

[02:02:09] They're able to acknowledge that was some stupid luck.

[02:02:13] You know, instead of,

[02:02:14] I'm invincible until the next time someone tries to kill me.

[02:02:17] It was just so...

[02:02:19] I think they brought the humanity at a harder pace.

[02:02:23] Sorry, I got distracted for a quick second.

[02:02:25] Are you talking about when they lit up his...

[02:02:26] He got...

[02:02:28] He's getting ambushed at his car,

[02:02:29] and Tommy comes in unexpectedly and shoots up the Korean gang.

[02:02:33] Yeah, he even told Holly,

[02:02:35] they didn't bit my ass up.

[02:02:38] Yeah, and needed that amount of dark humor also.

[02:02:42] You know, because for a while,

[02:02:43] gangster shows were kind of just stealing

[02:02:45] from Scorsese or Tarantino,

[02:02:47] and it sucked after a while,

[02:02:49] because it's like, okay.

[02:02:50] Levity in things, dude.

[02:02:52] Because in life, there is levity, right?

[02:02:54] Yeah.

[02:02:55] Like, you know, fucking dark, dark, dark.

[02:02:57] Like, even the shit that I write that is dark,

[02:03:00] I make sure I have humor with my characters.

[02:03:02] Yeah, always.

[02:03:03] Humor takes out the best,

[02:03:04] and you don't have to have them talking fancy.

[02:03:08] Yeah, and also that with the audience, too.

[02:03:12] The audience always needs a break from time to time

[02:03:15] from that shit.

[02:03:16] Something.

[02:03:16] A breather.

[02:03:18] Reel out, you know, get their composure,

[02:03:20] have something lighter,

[02:03:21] and then you draw them back in.

[02:03:23] It's like, if it's just, like,

[02:03:26] let's go with, it's the classic,

[02:03:29] but, I mean, Wrecking for a Dream.

[02:03:31] That movie is fucking dark as shit, right?

[02:03:37] It's very uncomfortable,

[02:03:38] particularly when you get to the end.

[02:03:41] I hated Avogloves Now growing up,

[02:03:43] but I came around to it in a film studies class,

[02:03:45] but that was one of those movies

[02:03:46] where you want to watch it maybe every five, ten years.

[02:03:50] You don't want to watch it every year or every week.

[02:03:53] I don't know what the book is based off of, man.

[02:03:55] I did a paper on the book is based off of

[02:03:58] A Heart of Darkness.

[02:03:59] Yeah, A Heart of Darkness, yeah.

[02:04:00] But, like, you know, I've always enjoyed that story.

[02:04:04] Did I do a paper on the movie, too?

[02:04:06] I may have.

[02:04:07] I would love to read it.

[02:04:10] That was, like, shit, like, 12, 13 years ago now.

[02:04:14] But, like, I wouldn't do that.

[02:04:16] But, I mean, Omari's been in some other stuff,

[02:04:18] like Sorry to Bother You and, you know,

[02:04:20] a satirical sci-fi.

[02:04:21] So, I think he's got a good agent.

[02:04:24] I think he loves being part of all these ensembles

[02:04:26] that have a very tough-to-describe scenario.

[02:04:30] I mean, dude, when we're done,

[02:04:32] and I do have to kind of get off,

[02:04:35] I can get ready for work in the morning.

[02:04:36] Yeah, sorry.

[02:04:37] I love these long conversations.

[02:04:39] I thought we, I pretty much had my notes,

[02:04:41] you had your notes.

[02:04:42] I think we pretty much don't hit the ones we were going on.

[02:04:45] Every time we have these conversations,

[02:04:47] that's why I love coming on your podcast, man.

[02:04:49] Like, because we, even though we have a topic

[02:04:51] we're talking about,

[02:04:52] we talk about all different things.

[02:04:55] But, at the end of the day,

[02:04:56] it all goes back to what we are generally talking about.

[02:04:59] Where you, we're talking about that.

[02:05:01] Like, how I talk about how Oz

[02:05:03] and those little connections and stuff like that.

[02:05:06] You know, again, we love storytelling.

[02:05:09] And, you know.

[02:05:10] We love stuff that's earned.

[02:05:11] Because there's so many times where you're like,

[02:05:13] what?

[02:05:13] That season was all about this and that.

[02:05:16] Oh, that's a cheat.

[02:05:17] Don't do that.

[02:05:18] No, that shit is definitely, you know.

[02:05:21] It's going to stand the test of time.

[02:05:23] It's going to be, it's up there now

[02:05:25] with, like, Breaking Bad and all those shows.

[02:05:28] You know what I mean?

[02:05:29] It really should be.

[02:05:30] And I think that's what I get annoyed by.

[02:05:32] Why is it not talked about more?

[02:05:33] It can't be just, oh, I don't have stars.

[02:05:36] Well.

[02:05:37] No, I mean, it's.

[02:05:38] Subscribe to stars.

[02:05:39] We're definitely talking about it.

[02:05:41] Because, I mean, the show that sixth season

[02:05:42] has got fucking one, two, three, four spinoffs.

[02:05:46] About to be five spinoffs now.

[02:05:47] Because they got the origins coming out now

[02:05:49] about young Tommy and young people.

[02:05:51] Oh, okay.

[02:05:51] So, that's right.

[02:05:52] Because Councilman Tate was supposed to be the fourth one.

[02:05:55] Then they were like, no, let's backtrack.

[02:05:56] Let's have him be part of book two.

[02:06:00] Yeah.

[02:06:01] I mean, I love Lorenz Tate.

[02:06:02] But that character is not enough to do a show on his own.

[02:06:07] Lorenz Tate can pull a show off on his own.

[02:06:09] But not that character he's playing.

[02:06:10] I mean, look at it this way.

[02:06:12] Like, Suits is coming out with a spinoff.

[02:06:14] A lot of people don't think it'll be any good.

[02:06:16] But we're going to be there day one.

[02:06:18] Because we like the original show and second show.

[02:06:21] I am a fan of the Green Arrow.

[02:06:23] Stephen Amell.

[02:06:24] I've met him.

[02:06:25] He is a good actor.

[02:06:26] Oh, sweet.

[02:06:28] Did you see the movie he did with his brother, Code 8?

[02:06:31] Wait, not yet.

[02:06:33] It's a bunch of sci-fi movies they did.

[02:06:36] I know about it.

[02:06:37] I've been wanting to watch it.

[02:06:38] I just keep forgetting to.

[02:06:38] I'm wanting to watch it.

[02:06:39] I know it's a sequel, finally.

[02:06:40] I'm probably going to watch it back to back.

[02:06:43] That's actually the best way to do it.

[02:06:45] Because I'm like, when's the sequel coming out?

[02:06:47] We're supposed to get a web series version of this.

[02:06:48] Then finally it comes out and you're like, eh.

[02:06:50] I know.

[02:06:51] That's not his brother.

[02:06:52] That's his cousin.

[02:06:52] My bad.

[02:06:53] Yes.

[02:06:54] Too many Hamels.

[02:06:57] He was also, he was on The Flash too.

[02:06:59] Like, Robbie, that's Robbie Amell.

[02:07:02] That's right.

[02:07:04] Dude, I like him.

[02:07:05] He was in that babysitter comedy horror film.

[02:07:10] I think it's just called The Babysitter.

[02:07:12] Yeah.

[02:07:13] With Bella and Gell.

[02:07:14] Yeah.

[02:07:15] His character was fucking hilarious, dude.

[02:07:17] Like, I will admit I enjoyed his character in that show.

[02:07:20] I didn't think I was going to like those movies.

[02:07:22] They were hilarious.

[02:07:23] But yeah, dude, like Powers is a show that's going to send a test of time.

[02:07:28] Yeah.

[02:07:29] It's all, it all connects.

[02:07:31] I think it's, there wasn't ever a moment where you're like, this character doesn't belong

[02:07:35] with the rest of these guys.

[02:07:37] When you get caught up with book two, we need to do just one over that.

[02:07:42] Trust me.

[02:07:42] Yeah.

[02:07:44] If I showed you my list of future topics, your head would explode.

[02:07:48] Yeah.

[02:07:48] Like, we do need to do that Jack Bauer moment.

[02:07:53] Cause dude, we always talk about 24 every time we talk, man.

[02:07:57] Carlos Bernard's a good director turned actor too.

[02:07:59] I am so impressed by the stuff he's taken on.

[02:08:02] Like, don't get me wrong.

[02:08:04] Like he's definitely, I would love to see even more Latino heritage and pride movies from him.

[02:08:11] But I would also love to just see just any other hard-boiled idea that he's got.

[02:08:15] Like, just give that man a budget.

[02:08:18] Like, there's so many great TV directors who really would be able to hold their own instead

[02:08:25] of just be asked, you know, is the producer happy?

[02:08:30] I don't know.

[02:08:32] Well, and again, like I say, storytelling.

[02:08:35] There's so many times where you're like, okay, I would not, maybe it's a mediocre script,

[02:08:41] but it's a great execution.

[02:08:42] So it speaks louder than words.

[02:08:44] And then there's other ones where you're like, yeah, I can't, I can't get through a minute

[02:08:49] of the script.

[02:08:49] So I don't know how you could translate it very well on screen without boring someone.

[02:08:54] You know, it's such a hard process.

[02:08:56] I did an audition.

[02:08:57] I got the script.

[02:09:00] Dude wanted me to play a racist.

[02:09:02] It was, not me, but I was auditioning for it.

[02:09:05] It was basically a racist black cop.

[02:09:09] And when I did the audition, you know, it's supposed to be a serious film, but the dialogue

[02:09:13] was just fucking funny.

[02:09:16] Like, every time me and, like, Terrence helped me shoot the audition tape, we couldn't

[02:09:24] stop laughing, dude.

[02:09:25] It was like, this dialogue is so fucking funny.

[02:09:27] It's like, I can't take this shit seriously.

[02:09:30] Don't make it or break it.

[02:09:32] I was auditioning for a superhero audio drama.

[02:09:34] I took one look at the dialogue.

[02:09:36] I'm like, even by comic book standards, this is just very meh.

[02:09:41] Like, it doesn't speak volumes even at this.

[02:09:45] I think it's just when we work so much behind the scenes, we get to that point where you're

[02:09:50] like, I can't make this cliche human.

[02:09:54] It's too stupid.

[02:09:56] It's too dumb.

[02:09:57] Yeah, I mean, actors only get as material that they're given.

[02:09:59] If I'm going to play a crooked FBI guy or a politician who's trying to do the right thing,

[02:10:06] but can't, or if I'm trying to do, I don't know, just like any complex role that would

[02:10:10] be so cinematic.

[02:10:11] Like, I don't want it to be a stereotype.

[02:10:14] I don't want it to also, especially if it's a good cause, like let's say it is a good cause

[02:10:20] trying to show corruption that, or defunding or something that needs to be addressed in

[02:10:26] society that society doesn't want to talk about.

[02:10:28] The last thing I want to do is just become a cartoon and make us go backwards.

[02:10:35] You know what I mean?

[02:10:35] Like, okay, so this is well-meaning, but this comes off as an exploitation film.

[02:10:40] That's not good because this is a topic we should really talk about, like prison reform

[02:10:43] or giving teachers a better salary, you know?

[02:10:46] Like, I don't...

[02:10:47] In those cases, stuff like that's more documentarian.

[02:10:50] So, I mean, like film, I mean, look at satire.

[02:10:54] A lot of films that are satire typically, you know, have, can have good messaging in them.

[02:11:01] Like, they're talking about shit.

[02:11:01] Satire I'll definitely trust, you know, because anything can be rewarded, you know?

[02:11:06] I think it's just the story and the character and does that mean you need to own it for

[02:11:12] you?

[02:11:13] Is it something that piques your interest?

[02:11:15] You know, is it something that you can do?

[02:11:17] Like, saying, go back to the cop one.

[02:11:19] Like, it's interesting, you know, because there are races with black cops, though.

[02:11:23] They're off the top.

[02:11:24] Yeah, no, absolutely.

[02:11:25] I just...

[02:11:25] I would hate for it to just be not well-directed or just...

[02:11:29] It's just how the guy wrote the dialogue.

[02:11:32] It's like, you're trying to make this dude like a drill sergeant, and I get that.

[02:11:36] You know, you've got some work to do with him, but it's also, like, just kind of comedic.

[02:11:40] It's like...

[02:11:41] Well, the same thing with a gangster.

[02:11:42] Like, I want him to just show a very realistic, like, how a criminal like that would operate.

[02:11:48] I don't want it to just be, I'm playing to the camera.

[02:11:52] Yeah, you know...

[02:11:53] And then going to shoot the guy at the end of the scene.

[02:11:55] Okay, now I've just become a human cartoon, for lack of a better word, instead of giving

[02:12:01] a voice.

[02:12:02] I'm a cliche, basically.

[02:12:04] I don't want to offend any race.

[02:12:05] I don't want to offend any demographic or group.

[02:12:08] I mean, like, if I say...

[02:12:12] Like, if I curse the Lord's name in vain or something, you know, I was like, okay, cool.

[02:12:15] Like, I'm already a politically incorrect movie, but, like, I'm showing how this person doesn't...

[02:12:21] I want every word to matter.

[02:12:23] I don't want it to just be, like, I'm just being...

[02:12:26] I'm just funning, you know?

[02:12:28] At the same time, man, the character is a character.

[02:12:31] Well, that too.

[02:12:32] Like, if that's the character, like, hey, this guy has no respect for anybody, so he's cursing

[02:12:35] out in this.

[02:12:37] I just want to make sure, like, all the bases are covered.

[02:12:40] Like, people are in on the joke and everything, you know what I mean?

[02:12:43] Like...

[02:12:43] I have a certain character, right?

[02:12:45] I mean, these...

[02:12:46] Unfortunately, these people...

[02:12:48] Racist people exist.

[02:12:50] Does that mean I shouldn't write a character that's racist because somebody's gonna get

[02:12:56] offended?

[02:12:57] Like, dude, racist people exist.

[02:12:59] Well, no, absolutely.

[02:13:00] But, like...

[02:13:01] I want to make sure everybody's in on the same deal.

[02:13:04] Like, the last thing I want to do is humanize a racist, you know what I mean?

[02:13:08] Like, I don't want to...

[02:13:09] Look at American History Act, right?

[02:13:11] Like, you know, that is humanizing a racist.

[02:13:14] It's showing how a racist, violent racist opens his mind and completely changes his life.

[02:13:22] I mean, it's still a very strong, brutal movie when it comes to racism.

[02:13:30] You know, you get Curved Stump.

[02:13:31] That's showing a guy's reform.

[02:13:32] That's a good point.

[02:13:34] No, Curved Stump and a motherfucker is some brutal shit.

[02:13:39] But, you know, again, that's happening in real life every single day.

[02:13:46] You read about...

[02:13:47] You have people who are neo-Nazi skinheads who...

[02:13:50] Absolutely.

[02:13:50] I just want to make sure we're in a mature mindset.

[02:13:53] Like, Nate and I had to kick a guy off a war idea we had because he thought these war crimes

[02:13:59] that were in the script were kind of justified.

[02:14:01] He's like, here's a soldier.

[02:14:02] Or I'm like, we're trying to show this guy's a war criminal hiding behind his honor.

[02:14:07] Well, yeah, man.

[02:14:07] If that's a guy who has conflict with the production, you've got to get it.

[02:14:11] Right.

[02:14:11] That's someone he doesn't get it.

[02:14:13] So, I'm not going to...

[02:14:15] Even if you...

[02:14:18] I've been on Proud of Projects or maybe Story Choices and stuff that I don't necessarily

[02:14:23] agree with.

[02:14:24] But it's not my fucking story.

[02:14:26] There's also that.

[02:14:28] It's not my story, man.

[02:14:29] So, it's not my job to just know what the fuck to do with it.

[02:14:32] I've been part of movies where the idea was great, but the dialogue sucked.

[02:14:35] It's like, yeah, 9-1-1 or Vigilante or Gangster, I don't think, would act that way.

[02:14:41] But that's just me.

[02:14:42] What do I know?

[02:14:43] At the end of the day, you've got to let them tell their story.

[02:14:45] I mean, if it succeeds, it'll succeed.

[02:14:47] If it flops, it flops.

[02:14:49] But at the end of the day, it's their story.

[02:14:51] You know, you can't...

[02:14:53] Like, with me, I give people a whole set helping people on something that I have more experience

[02:14:58] than them, I'll give them advice.

[02:15:00] But, you know, our...

[02:15:01] Or let's film it five different ways where this person acts this way.

[02:15:06] I'll maybe give them something, you know, but I always say at the end of the day, this

[02:15:09] is your film.

[02:15:10] I'll give you...

[02:15:11] My job is to help you.

[02:15:12] Yeah.

[02:15:13] I'll give you here and there if I think, you know, maybe you can use it.

[02:15:17] But at the end of the day, it's always up to you to use it or not.

[02:15:21] So...

[02:15:21] I just try to not ever be cynical because, like, I learned the hard way when I was co-producing

[02:15:26] a war movie that had some spy elements, how no one was speaking the same language.

[02:15:32] Long story short, the guy directing shouldn't have been directing.

[02:15:37] The other people were acting in it but didn't want to do the work, so that sucked.

[02:15:41] And then it got to the point where...

[02:15:43] Yeah, no, there's no...

[02:15:45] The politics were really...

[02:15:46] That's a disgruntled set.

[02:15:48] I was like, fuck this, I'm mad.

[02:15:49] Oh, it sucked.

[02:15:50] And after a year, but I did say, fuck this.

[02:15:53] I need it.

[02:15:54] I've already quit my job.

[02:15:55] I need to...

[02:15:56] I will not make any more time for this, especially when you guys have such empty promise.

[02:16:01] Like, you're not cutting the mustard, any of you.

[02:16:04] And I needed to learn that way because I was ready to spin willy-nilly and do whatever

[02:16:10] and fuck around.

[02:16:10] It's like, eh, I need to also pay it forward.

[02:16:13] And I also need to...

[02:16:15] If these guys aren't list...

[02:16:16] Don't value any of our advice, fuck them.

[02:16:19] And I'm like, they suck.

[02:16:21] It's all true.

[02:16:22] Hey, man.

[02:16:23] The politics were toxic, so that was already another good reason to escape.

[02:16:27] You got politics on set and it's toxic, you're just trying to get the fuck, man.

[02:16:31] Oh, well, and the funny...

[02:16:32] I think I hated it even more because they hid it in the script.

[02:16:35] And a bright guy like me who was right up on that should have known day one.

[02:16:39] Oh, God.

[02:16:41] Yeah, but it's not.

[02:16:42] You told something, you know, maybe you're excited about the job.

[02:16:45] I thought, okay, maybe I can look the other way.

[02:16:48] It'll be a stupid military movie.

[02:16:49] It's like, ugh, this whole thing sucks.

[02:16:52] The cinematographer doesn't value any of us.

[02:16:55] Everyone's got, like, multiple job positions, but not in a good way.

[02:16:58] Like, just ignoring each other until it's time to eat.

[02:17:03] And then that just would really fuck up the rest of the day.

[02:17:05] And it's like, you can't get that energy back.

[02:17:07] Everyone's tired and wants to go home.

[02:17:08] This sucks.

[02:17:10] Anyway, yeah, I'll let you...

[02:17:11] Yeah, dude, I do gotta go, man.

[02:17:14] Always a delight.

[02:17:15] As a matter of fact, message me, man.

[02:17:17] We'll try to set up another one, maybe.

[02:17:20] Very soon.

[02:17:21] Yeah.

[02:17:22] And we'll...

[02:17:23] But yeah, like I said, we need to do...

[02:17:26] Best moments.

[02:17:29] When you get caught up with book two, we'll do a full episode on that.

[02:17:34] But we need to do...

[02:17:35] All the other powers, yes.

[02:17:38] We need to do one Jack Bauer thing.

[02:17:40] Every time we talk, we all...

[02:17:42] Some part of her...

[02:17:43] It always goes back to those assholes.

[02:17:46] So, we need to do one just Jack Bauer.

[02:17:52] There are some certain scenes with Jack story-wise that I definitely want to talk to you about.

[02:17:57] I was on vacation, and next thing you know, someone just started mentioning him.

[02:18:01] I'm like, oh, I see what you did there.

[02:18:05] Yeah, man.

[02:18:05] But hey, dude, this is always great, man.

[02:18:07] Like I said, message me.

[02:18:09] We'll set up another one in a couple weeks.

[02:18:10] I will follow you to the ends of the earth.

[02:18:14] If Jason Bourne is trying to kill you, I will be there at your door.

[02:18:18] All of me is going to be a rough ride, man.

[02:18:21] So, if you prepare...

[02:18:24] Hey, man, you have a good night.

[02:18:25] I will talk to you soon.

[02:18:27] I hope work is un-eventful.

[02:18:31] Take it easy, man.

[02:18:32] It's been great.

[02:18:32] Always a delight.
