[00:00:23] And welcome to episode 612 of the Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast. I'm Sean. I'm Ian, and this is the only podcast that says... She is the only evidence of God I have seen with the exception of the mysterious force that removes one sock from the dryer every time I do my laundry. Nice. I bet you don't know what movie that's from. Yeah. St. Elmo's Fire. Nope, wouldn't know. Yeah, that was not an Ian Bellamy.
[00:00:54] You were not a Brat Packer at all. Not at all. No. I didn't like those movies. And that wasn't even a John Hughes movie. Right. But you just like... The Brat Pack, no thank you. Nah, I'm good. Yeah. Yeah. So how you been, buddy? Good. Busy day. Yeah, it's all wishing you a happy birthday. Thank you, thank you. Happy birthday!
[00:01:25] We love you. Oh, nice. You're our favorite! Yeah, it was good. Good. So we kind of did the girl's birthday and... Yeah. My birthday and Easter are all on the same day. Just knock it out. It was a busy day. Yeah, but just knock it out, you know what I mean? Yeah. So... But it's done.
[00:01:54] So next Sunday, I can just relax. Nice. Or is that not Easter next Sunday after that? No, it's next Sunday. Is it next Sunday? Because Easter falls on April 20th. So... Everybody's going to be smoking those hams. Yeah. And it's also night two at WrestleMania. Oh, really? Yeah. Do you rent it? Well, I have Peacock. I can automatically see it. Oh, that's right. Yeah.
[00:02:24] So tomorrow, I'll be recording a podcast with our friend Jason from the History of Bad Ideas podcast. We'll be talking all about the upcoming WrestleMania show. And I'm sure I'll completely sidetrack him with some sort of obscure wrestling knowledge of mine. Yeah. Yeah. Do you have the knowledge? Like last year, we... Not last year. For the Royal Rumble. I mean, it's like a two and a half hour show. Huh.
[00:02:51] 30 minutes of which I dedicated to just the hands of stone Ronnie Garvin. Yeah. And we just pummeled Ronnie Garvin. So I've got an idea who I'm going to bring up. But he also, it's his son's birthday, so he's got a tight window. Yeah. You know, but I'm sure it'll be a good show. Yeah. We have fun doing it. Cool.
[00:03:18] So, and on that note... Yeah. What's been going on in your world? Watching anything? Um, well, I mean, yeah, I've been continuing to watch Daredevil. Oh. I've enjoyed that. We're not going to get on that rabbit hole again. Um, but I did watch, um, I started watching the final season of The Righteous Gemstones. Oh, how's that? Yeah, I mean, it's funny. Yeah. You know, I mean, it's...
[00:03:46] If you like the first three seasons, you'll enjoy this. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I mean, if you like Danny McBride, like, if you're like somebody who's like, you've watched, like, you know, Eastbound and Down, and you watched Vice Principals... Yeah. You probably should be, or you probably are already watching this. Right. You know what I mean? So, but if you're... If you're somebody who, like, you're like, you know, I don't know any of that.
[00:04:13] Like, it's a funny show, but, you know, it's very raunchy. Oh. You know? Um, but it's like really, really, really, like, to me, like, again, just really fucking funny. Like, I love shit like that. Yeah. So, um... So, I've been enjoying that, catching up on that. And, uh, that was, uh, about it. I watched, uh...
[00:04:43] Oh, no, I did watch Pat McAfee's Big Night At. Oh, you did? Live from PPG Arena. How was that? I will say this. I enjoyed what Pat did. The problem is, it wasn't for me. Okay. Okay? Like, I like, I like Pat. I, and I, when he was on the stage by himself telling stories, it was great.
[00:05:15] Um, I like the idea of the show, because he talked about, like, he wanted to do, like, a variety show. Yeah. And that's kind of what it was. But the problem is, like, the acts that they had, like, the first act was Jelly Roll. Oh. I'm not a fan of him. Like, I'm not putting him down. I'm not saying he's bad. Just not for me. Okay. Um, then they had, uh, Wiz Khalifa and, uh, Snoop Dogg.
[00:05:44] Which, I mean, you know, always good to see Snoop. Snoop dropped some old stuff. Dropped some new stuff with some country guy I'd never heard of. Uh-huh. You know, so... Like, that type of stuff gets lost on me. Yeah. Because it's not my, my thing. Yeah. Um, so, like, I'm glad I didn't pay to go to the show. Right. Because not that it was bad. Like, it just, the things he was booking.
[00:06:13] Like, they had sumo wrestling. The sumo wrestling was fun. And they had Shane Gillis, like, as a referee for the sumo wrestling. So that was interesting. Yeah. Um, and they gave away 2.6 million dollars or some shit. Uh. Like, you know, some ridiculous number. Um, like, it was just, it was that, that thing of, like, at the end of it.
[00:06:39] But I was done watching and I was just like, I get it. But it's clearly, like, not meant for me. Yeah. It's meant for somebody 10 to 15 years younger than me. Okay. You know what I mean? Like, he, and, and that, again, it's, I'm not saying it as a bad thing. I'm just saying that as an, as an old white, as he would put it. Yeah.
[00:07:02] You know, my sensibilities just don't align with his, you know, like, they had Jelly Roll performed Renegade. Okay. Like, he was talking about, like, I was looking up what's the greatest arena, stadium song of all time. Yeah. It wasn't this. It wasn't, it was this. And, and Jelly Roll did Renegade. Right.
[00:07:30] Well, like, I was thinking to myself, why would you just go get sticks? Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, that's me. Like, I would much rather have had sticks sing Renegade and two other songs than Jelly Roll. Right.
[00:07:42] But, I understand that's my sensibilities as a 52-year-old white and not Pat's as a 30-something millennial who's got a broader sense of musical taste than I do. Yeah. So, overall, I, I, I'm glad I didn't pay to go see the show.
[00:08:10] Watching it on YouTube, I enjoyed it. Like, I know they released a, it's on Hulu, and it has behind-the-scenes stuff that you could, that they added in. Yeah. I won't watch that. Okay. You know, like, as intrigued as I would be to see some of the behind-the-scenes stuff, I'm not that intrigued. Okay. To sit through it all again. So, I mean, if you went and you, you, you saw the show or you watched the show, I hope you, you enjoyed it.
[00:08:40] Like, I, there were aspects of it I did enjoy. Like, at the end of it, when he had Big Ben, Paul Skeens, Sid Geno, and Letang, all out of, like, it was like, you know, Pittsburgh royalty. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I was like, only Pat can pull that together.
[00:09:03] And then, of course, like, it's like, like, it's that thing of, like, all of a sudden people get pissed. They're pissed at Pat because, well, he didn't invite McCutcheon. Well, it's like... Yeah, McCutcheon left, man. But, I mean, McCutcheon came back. I mean, he's on the team right now. I know. But, like, it's that thing of, like... He wasn't a solid. But that wasn't Pat. I mean, that also wasn't McCutcheon's fault. Yeah. Like, you know what I mean?
[00:09:31] Like, we traded him. Yeah, yeah. You know? But it's just, it's that thing of, like, people are like, well, how could you not invite McCutcheon? That's bullshit. And I'm like, you're just looking for something to be pissed about. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, people are just looking for something to be pissed about. And Pat had to put out a statement like, hey, I didn't know and blah, blah. I mean, you had Paul Skeens. Like, the future of the New York Yankees. Yeah, right.
[00:09:59] Like, but, I mean, other than that, other than some fake outrage, it was a good show. From what I saw online, everybody seemed to love the show. They watched it or went to it. Yeah. So, I mean, you know, I don't know if he's going to do it again. I know it was a joint thing he did with the WWE. Like, he worked with them. They did the production and the camera work and stuff. Mm-hmm. Like, they're, like, all the staging and everything.
[00:10:29] So, I mean, that tells me he has an extremely solid relationship with WWE that they would be willing to co-fund that with him. Mm-hmm. He said he owns it all. They just produced. Yeah. So, like, that's very interesting to me. And, you know, I just, I think I'm more impressed about it from the standpoint of Hat as a businessman. Uh-huh.
[00:11:05] Yeah. And we're like, well, here comes this celebrity. Here comes this athlete. And they automatically have a million-view podcast. Yeah. And, like, it's annoying to a certain extent because you're like, you know, I'm in the echo chamber yelling and nobody's listening. Yeah. Pat was a punter. Let's get this straight. Like, you know, it's not like he was, like, the star running back for the Indianapolis Colts or something. Like, he was a punter. Right, right.
[00:11:34] He's a very funny guy. He had a small following in Indianapolis, like, when he was on Twitter and stuff. He has built his brand. You know, he went from having this show on YouTube as a podcast in a basement somewhere. Yeah. To, like, you know, having a full-blown studio and licensing his product to ESPN for millions of dollars. He is a, in many ways, a rags-to-riches story. Right. Like, you know what I mean?
[00:12:01] Like, when we all talk about in the podcasting space what we want to be, we should be looking at what Pat McAfee did. Yeah. And while he has celebrity, his celebrity when he started was minute. Right. You know? And he built an empire from there. So, like, watching him, like, expand and, like, try something outside of the box, which is something, like, most people wouldn't do. Right. Most people would be like, okay, well, we have this.
[00:12:30] This works. Let's stick to this. He's constantly expanding, you know, looking for ways to improve his brand, be it through, you know, ESPN, College Game Day, appearing on certain shows, you know, being part of the WWE. Like, he's not somebody who's put himself in the one box because it's successful and stayed there. Right.
[00:12:57] He's looking for ways to constantly expand his brand and his portfolio in the media space to make himself a success. Right. And I think the best part about it is he's an idiot. Yeah. Because sometimes he says shit and he gets into big trouble. And I don't think he means this stuff on purpose. I think it's more along the lines of, like, oh, shit, I fucked up. Right. You know what I mean? And then he owns up to fucking up.
[00:13:28] Yeah. You know? But it's very interesting to watch his rise. Like, I enjoy watching his show daily, like, before work. Mm-hmm. That's what I usually do. Like, I'll get out, I'll eat breakfast. I got Pat Mac, a few on my phone while I'm eating breakfast. Okay. Then, you know, get ready for work, go upstairs, watch for another hour, then start my day at work. You know? So it's like, that's part of, he's part of my daily routine at this point. Yeah.
[00:13:54] So, and it's interesting to kind of watch, even from when I started watching, I'm like, the evolution sense. Right. It's been very, very interesting to follow. Okay. Yeah. I mean, he's an interesting guy. I like listening to him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I like where he came from. Yeah. To now. Right. I mean, that's huge. When I heard he was coming, I was like, holy shit. I mean, he got, he had gotten big, huge.
[00:14:24] But I didn't know if he was going to, I didn't know if he was that big. I mean, and what, it was, I think 12,000 people in that arena that night. Which, a large portion of it was taken. The stage they had was huge. Uh-huh. It was, it was huge. So, but still, to, to get 12, over 12,000 people to see a three-hour show on a Wednesday night.
[00:14:53] Yeah. And he sold it out. Like, I think they released 10,000 tickets initially, and they sold out in like 40 minutes. Wow. You know. Yeah. That's ridiculous. And that was without any acts being announced. Like, everything, the only other thing you knew was going to be there was Pat. Yeah, yeah. That's it. Yeah. Nothing else was announced. And so, I mean, and you can say, like, well, it's Pittsburgh. Of course, he's going to do that in Pittsburgh.
[00:15:23] There are two places, you know, you need to say that. Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. Yeah. Like, if he was to do something like that next year, wherever they're holding WrestleMania, like, that would be interesting to see. Yeah. Yeah. Unless, of course, it's in Indianapolis, which would be like, duh, okay, of course. Right. Right, right. But it's still, it is that thing of, like, yes, I mean, it works in Pittsburgh because he's
[00:15:53] from Pittsburgh, and he's always maintained, you know, he's a Yenzer. But he lives in Indianapolis, and, you know, he's a Hoosier now. But, so, like, those two places I could see just, it's an automatic sellout. Yeah. But, like, anywhere else, I do wonder. Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah, it's just big. I just, I think good for him. No, exactly.
[00:16:20] Like, I am, I'm very happy for him and the success he has and everything else. Yeah. Um, but, I'm just happy for him. Like, you're right. Like, you're just, you're happy for the guy because it's, it's just one of those stories you don't, like, it's built. He earned it. Yeah.
[00:16:42] You know, it's not like, you know, like, Peyton Manning could go out and do a podcast and a million people would listen. Yeah. Tom Brady's done that. Like, but that's because of who you are and what, like, the dude was a punter. Like, I knew him because I thought he was, like, this batshit crazy punter. Yeah. Like, you know, the stuff he did, like, he'd hit a punt and then he'd do, like, the, uh,
[00:17:10] the Vince McMahon walk because he, like, you know, he got it inside the five or something. Like, shit like that. Like, he was a character and I always like characters. Yeah. And then you found, like, you know, one, he went to West Virginia and I watched him punt a few times against Pitt. Yeah. In fact, I watched, I was there for the play. Like, West Virginia destroyed Pitt, but the highlight was, um, Daryl Rivas, that return down the sideline.
[00:17:39] He got, McAfee got crushed on. I've seen McAfee crush some people too, though. He has. Yes. Absolutely. But, um, you know, so I watched him at West Virginia. You know, he's a local boy. I was like, oh, wow, there's a whole lot of connections here. Yeah. And then, you know. So, so that was that. That's about it. Hmm.
[00:18:10] Well, I took the girls to go see, well, Lisa took us to go see Peter Pan. Okay. No, I didn't. We had an extra ticket. Yeah. No. Anna and Ellie, Lisa and I went. I'm guessing this is a, a musical play. I thought it was well done. Yeah. Was this like a touring? Hook was really good. Yeah. Is this something that's touring or was this something that was just like a little Broadway series.
[00:18:40] It was at the Benetim. Okay. Um, musically it was good. Yeah. Um, yeah, it was cool. Cool. I don't, I can't really, I mean, it's Peter Pan. Yeah. You know what I mean? But the way they did it and the, the effects that they used on stage, I thought was really good. Yeah. Um, just coming to mind, the flying part was cool. Yeah. How they backdropped it and actually did look like they were flying. Yeah. I thought that was cool.
[00:19:08] And what they did with the shadow work, you know, Pan loses a shadow. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That whole part was cool. Cause they had a light down here. Yeah. Cause they were shining in and then. Yeah. The shadow would do different things than what Pan was doing. So I thought that was really cool. That light work and stuff. Yeah. For a live production. I thought, wow, that's. That's impressive. That's impressive. Yeah. I can see how, you know, that, that was really impressive. Yeah. Um, so yeah, it was good.
[00:19:38] Um, what else? I watched long legs. Oh, wow. Yeah. I heard that was a fucked up batshit crazy. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. Um, I thought it was Nicolas Cage at his best. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't even see Nicolas Cage. Yeah.
[00:20:05] And the great thing about it too, is I barely heard him. Like. Yeah. I barely heard Nicolas Cage when he spoke. He was that out of character. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? I was like, whoa. Yeah. Good shit from Nicolas Cage. We forget the dude can actually. The movie was great. I thought. I think it's cool that he did that kind of film. Yeah. And I think it's cool that he continues to do this kind of film. Right.
[00:20:31] I mean, the, the movie that even that he played himself with Pedro Pascal, I think. Yeah. That was a great movie. I liked it. That's a great movie. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh, I liked the fact. And he just, just does these stinkers. But. Like, that was actually a really good movie. And it ended on. Oh, what was the song? And he, uh, they ended on, um. Because the music was good, too. Um. They ended on, uh.
[00:21:00] Oh, my God. I'll think of it during the show. But. A great song. Yeah. Yeah. Uh. But I thought the movie was fantastic. I did. I thought it was. I felt like it was dragging for a minute. And then, like, it'd pick up. And then it'd drag. And then it'd pick up. But the payoff. At the end was great. I mean, I just thought it was a well done movie. And it had to do with, you know.
[00:21:29] There were some images there that were like. Yeah. That's fucked up. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I don't like. I like the movies. Because it's still. These movies still scare me. It has to do with demons and Satanism. And stuff like that. Right. Shit scares the shit out of me. Right. Still. Yeah. Maybe it's from church upbringing. I don't know. Yeah. But, I mean, the shit scares me. That. That's. I mean. When you dove into the religious aspect of it. Yeah. Like. It still scares me.
[00:21:59] Um. You know. Jump scares are one thing. Yeah. Taking your soul to hell is a whole nother thing. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. And that's all scream. And all that shit is. That's. Those are just jump scares. Yeah. Like. Yeah. Like the. Like the prophecy. Yeah. Like that movie fucks with me. Yeah. You know. Especially like that scene with the devil. Oh. Like. Oh yeah. Like the whole. The whole thing. I'm just like. Even legend's creepy.
[00:22:28] If you want to go back to Tom Cruise. Yeah. Like legend. Yeah. He's dancing with. Oh. Devil. Oh. But. Tim Burton as the devil is probably one of the best. Artistically. Creations of the devil I have ever seen. Yeah. Like from biblically. What. What is described as. Yeah. As to. Yeah. Like. You know what I'm saying? Like. The horns. The cloven. Yeah. All that stuff. Eyes of a goat. Yeah. But.
[00:22:59] Yeah. But. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But that was like. If I would ever picture like Satan. But. I would picture that description. But that whole. That whole sequence. Yeah. Like. I mean. I know you're. You're getting at. I need to get off track of it. But like. Like that whole sequence where he's like. How can I make her mine father? And he's like. Woo her. And like. It's the table. Yeah. With all the food.
[00:23:29] Yeah. And seduce her. And then there's the dress dancing. And she starts dancing with the dress. And the music's playing. And it's Tangerine Dream. And it's just like this. Really well done. Score. And then. Make her one of us. And she's in the dress. Yeah. Dan. Just dancing. And then he steps through the fucking mirror. And you're like. Oh shit. Yeah. That's so. I mean. That. That sequence is one of.
[00:23:57] One of my all time favorite sequences. In like. All of film. Yeah. And it's like. Ridley Scott. Shot the shit out of that whole thing. Yeah. And he made it so fucking good. Like you can see what you will about that movie. It is a little batshit crazy. It's a little wonky. But that dance sequence. And the sequence at the end where. You know. Jack has him. And you know. He's holding on. Darkness is holding on. He's like. You know.
[00:24:26] Who are you without me? What is light without darkness? Yeah. You know. We are one in the same brother. And you know. And then he just takes the shot. And sends him to hell. I'm like. Oh. Yeah. You know. Plus you get. Billy Barty as a dwarf. Yeah. Great. No. Doesn't get better than that. Yeah. But. I mean. Anyway. So. Yeah. It's a good movie.
[00:24:56] I highly suggest it. It's a little different. But. I mean. Every time Nicolas Cage is on screen. You just watch him. Yeah. This is so fucked up. Yeah. Like. The acting's incredible. Yeah. So. Yeah. That was good. And. That's pretty much all I watched. I was kind of a dead week as far as watching shows. Yeah.
[00:25:26] I didn't watch too many at all. The past couple weeks. Trying to think if I watched anything else. I started the Lion King movie. Uh. I was curious. Mufasa. Yeah. Lin-Manuel did the score to it. Um. The guy that did Hamilton. Yeah. And the heights. And all that stuff. Yeah. So. Um. But.
[00:25:57] Um. Curiously. I was curious in that. Just cause. I mean. I like where he came from too. Do you know what I mean? Like. He worked his way up. Mufasa? No. Lin-Manuel. Oh. Okay. The guy that did Hamilton. Okay. Yeah. In the heights. Yeah. One of his first. And. How he worked up in the. Yeah. In the ranks. And. Did this. That. And the other. And all of a sudden. In the heights took off. And then.
[00:26:27] Hamilton. Yeah. Made him a mega star. You know. And then now Disney's recruiting him to write. Yeah. Songs for their musicals. Right. Which I think is really cool. But you talk about from. Yeah. Going from this to this. Right. It's another one of those stories. Right. But. He's just talented. You know what I mean? Um. But anyway. So I. I. Halfway watched it. It was okay. It's.
[00:26:59] Different. Yeah. I don't know. It's the story of. You know. Yeah. But it was pretty good. Uh. So far. I haven't finished it. Um. I watched Train to Busan again. Yeah. I don't know if I talked about that. I don't think I did. That. We were between weeks. But I did watch Train to Busan. That's a really good film. Yeah. You've seen that or no? No. No. It's a good film. As far as zombie films. Yeah. It's good. Um.
[00:27:31] But the big guy in there. If you watch it. You'll see this. He's like really big. Yeah. Like in. In cinema. Yeah. And I started watching a series with him in it. But I just can't remember the name of the series. It's saved. Yeah. Um. But he's in this. And it's. It's really good. He's a good actor. Um. That's really it. I haven't really watched hardly anything at all. The thing I'm surprised you haven't watched is The Pit.
[00:28:02] Yeah. I am. It's so hard press for me to. To watch a medical. Medical show. Yeah. Um. People don't enjoy watching medical shows with me. Yeah. Because you pick things apart. I do. Right. And. I think I'm so harsh on it because I'm in it. Right. And so when I see something like. You know. They're undergoing heart surgery. And they don't.
[00:28:31] They're not even intubated. Yeah. I got problems with that. Right. You know. But. The thing. The thing I've heard is one. It's relatively realistic. Yeah. And two. It's extraordinarily well acted. And. Like it's almost been enough to make me want. Like give it a try. Like the praise is so high for it.
[00:29:01] Yeah. Plus the fact that it takes place in Pittsburgh. Yeah. Because there's that. And there's also. A show called Watson. It's on CBS. Okay. Paramount Plus. Okay. Morris Chestnut is John Watson. Okay. And this is after. Holmes falls at Reichenbach Falls. Okay. And he. Comes to Pittsburgh. Yeah. Because it's a. It's a hub.
[00:29:30] Of medical science. Uh huh. And he. He's working at some. Found. Medical foundation. Where he. Does. Like. Medical investigation. Okay. So it's a procedural. In that. But it. It's two things. One. It's. It's. It's. You know. Sherlock Holmes related. Which piques my interest. Sure. But then it's taking place in Pittsburgh. Uh huh. Which also like. Hmm. Because.
[00:30:02] Something like that. It's like. The pit takes place. It's 15 episodes taking place over one day. Yeah. Like one day in this ER. Over 15 episodes. Which sounds like interesting to me. Mm hmm. But with Watson. It's like. Well how much of Pittsburgh. Do they get right then? Yeah. Because it's like. One thing to like. Like show. Like. You know. Some stock footage of the point. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But like. When they start talking about like. Well we gotta get over the green tree. So we better hurry. Before the traffic hits.
[00:30:31] And the tunnels are. Like. That's the stuff I'm looking for. Yeah. Like you know. How. How in depth of your knowledge of Pittsburgh. Do you have. That you're putting into the show. Right. That. You know. Like that's the. Especially with something you got. Where it's like. You know. No. You couldn't be there in 15 fucking minutes. It's impossible. Yeah. You know. And five miles is 35 minutes. Yeah. Exactly. Letting you now. Yeah. Yeah. That's how Pittsburgh works. Yeah. So.
[00:31:01] That's if you don't get construction. Right. So. Like that's. Like. I'm intrigued to watch that. Just to see how they. Like. It's one thing to be in the ER the entire time. Uh huh. Like. You know. Maybe you make a couple of cultural references. And that's it. Yeah. Where like with Watts. I'm like. You know. Yeah. They gotta be traveling around. Yeah. As you get around. You watch it or no? I have not. No. Like. It's that thing of like. There's a part of me that's very curious about it. Yeah.
[00:31:32] I mean. There's a part of me that's like. It's network TV. It's not gonna be that good. Yeah. Like. At least a pit is a max show. Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? So. And give you a little blood there. Yeah. Where like with this. It's like. You know. It's John Watts as Dr. House. Yeah. You know. It's a good show. Right. People love that show. Yeah. You know. But. Like how. How interesting can it really be? And. You know. Am I that desperate for homes material? That. It was funny.
[00:32:02] As I was walking the streets of Pittsburgh. When I went to go see Peter Pan. Yeah. We parked in. You saw a bum peeing in the corner? No. But there's always bumps. Yeah. But. You know. It's not the safest area. Where the Benetim is. I mean. It's not terrible. But it's not. Great. Yeah. I mean. Anyway. So we're walking. We've. You know. Crossed the street. Get on the Benetim side. You know. And. We're like.
[00:32:32] A block and a half. This way. And we had to go. To the Benetim. Yeah. They're like. Oh. Let's just cut down this alley. And I'm like. Yeah. Well. Number one. It was well lit. Yeah. I guess it's a popular. Yeah. Alley to take. Popular shortcut. Yeah. And you kind of. Round the bend. Like. The Benetim's up here. So instead of walking. All the way here. Yeah. You just kind of hit the alley. And bring up. And you're right. You're right in front of the Benetim. Yeah. It was well lit. But you know. Both sides of the thing.
[00:33:01] Were brick. Old brick. Yeah. You know what I mean. But it was well lit. And one was yellow brick. Would made it even brighter. Right. And it looked like. It was like stage doors. And stuff like that. Yeah. And as we're walking through this alley. I tell the girls. I was like. You know what I mean. Yeah. Because that's exactly how it felt. Yeah. You know what I'm saying. Yeah. You're in Crime Alley. Yeah. It's exactly how I felt. Yeah. When I was walking through this place. Because there was nobody else there. Yeah. Yeah. And I was like. Ugh. This is.
[00:33:33] Smells fishy. Yeah. No. That's urine. Is someone. Yeah. Is someone baiting me down this alley? But. You know. I just wish. I. Yeah. The Glenwood's closed again. Yeah. Not that I take that way anymore. But. The Glenwood is closed again. The goddamn thing was closed for like four years. Not the bridge. But. It's down to one lane again. Yeah.
[00:34:03] It's like. How many times can you fucking fix something? Or not fix something? Yeah. And then. And just. Pittsburgh just drives me fucking crazy. Because. Every artery. Is. Shut down. Yeah. It's so hard to get out of Pittsburgh. It's so hard to get into Pittsburgh. You know what I mean? Like there's always. There. And these roving construction projects they have going on in Shadyside and Oakland. Yeah.
[00:34:32] One day a street's open. Next day it's fucking closed. Yeah. One day it's open. Next day another street's closed. I mean like. My God man. Then they shut Beck's run down for a while. Yeah. Oh my God. All the traffic went. Glendale. You know what I mean? The Glenwood Bridge. That's partially shut down part of Second Avenue. I mean they're just. They pick these projects. And I swear to God. They don't look at the. How people get out of the city.
[00:35:02] Yeah. You know what I mean? And you want people to come to the city. Right. But they're going to be like. Okay. Jesus Christ Superstars plant. Oh. Yeah. This, this, this, and this is closed. Yeah. There's only one way in and one way out. Nah. Pass. Because it's going to take me two and a half hours to get home. Yeah. When it's going to take me an hour and 15 minutes. Right. You know what I mean? Like. Who wants to deal with that? Yeah. So. I just wish they would just fix the shit. Just fix it. Yeah.
[00:35:34] It shouldn't be months. I agree. And they're working on McKnight Road again. Oh well. And not that I go to McKnight Road. But what I'm saying is like. I think they've been working on McKnight Road since I was in high school. They've been working on 28 since I was born. Yeah. Yeah. I mean what the fuck? Yeah. What is that? Oh. Like in my opinion. I mean what the fuck? Like in my opinion. Fix the road man. In my opinion 28 is like. Is the Golden Gate Bridge of Pittsburgh.
[00:36:04] Like. They say like. They are painting that bridge year round. Like. So. By the time they get to the end of the bridge. It's time to go back and start all over. You mean the Highland Park Bridge? No. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Okay. Like. It's constantly being painted. Because. By the time you get to the end of it. It's time to start back at the beginning again. Yeah. So. It's constantly being worked on. Yeah. Like it doesn't interfere with traffic or anything.
[00:36:34] I'm just saying. It's the same thing at 28. By the time they finish 28. It's time to start all over on 28. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. We gotta go back to the beginning and start all over again. Fuck. You know. Yeah. It's just. I don't know. I tell you what though. So. We were coming downstairs. I saw. On the table up there. You know. Bunch of 45s. Uh huh.
[00:37:04] But there was a copy of rumors right there on top. Yeah. I've been down a Fleetwood Mac rabbit hole this week. Oh really? That's where. Yeah. So that kind of reminded me of that. Because. There's. Uh. Flowers up there too. Yeah. It was an interesting one. Yeah. But. You know what I'm talking about. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But. No. I went down this rabbit hole. Because it was like.
[00:37:36] I saw something where Steve Enyx was talking about. Like. Like. It was like this whole thing. This. This. This video about like. Well. You know. This is what. What the. The genesis of rumors was. Which. You know. Everybody knows. Everybody breaking up with everybody. Yeah. And they were talking about. You know. Lindsey Buckingham wrote. Go your own way. Uh huh. As the ultimate breakup song. Yeah. To Stevie. And.
[00:38:06] Stevie's only objection to that. Was she wanted the line. Shacking up is all you want to do. Taken from it. Yeah. And Lindsey Buckingham was like. No. You know. So. She wrote dreams. Which. She's like. That to me. Is like the twin. To go your own way. It's my version. Yeah. Of our breakup. Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. That makes sense. But I was like. What about Silver Springs?
[00:38:36] Yeah. Because. Like. There are a bunch. I mean. Again. Like. You know. You look at rumors. And that has the chain on it. Which is. Again. Like. You know. An ultimate. Go fuck yourself song. Yeah. You know. There are a couple of Stevie songs. And. You know. But like. I could never figure out. Where Seven Springs came from. Silver Springs. Silver Springs. Yeah. Seven Springs. I don't say Seven Springs. Silver Springs. Because.
[00:39:05] The foggy goggle. Yeah. The foggy goggle. Because it's not in. It's not on rumors. Yeah. So I did some research into it. Stevie wrote that song. In. In 76. And it was supposed to be on rumors. But they took it off. For another song of hers. Mm-hmm. And then when they released. Go your own way. Silver Spring.
[00:39:36] Was the B side of that. Okay. But it technically was never on rumors. Mm-hmm. They never performed it live. Fast forward to 1997. Okay. They did. The. The concert. The dance. Yeah. It was like their. The reunion show that they did. They hadn't been together. In like five years. They did. They were doing this reunion show. The Warner Brothers backlot. Somehow Stevie convinces them. To let her do Silver Springs. Okay. And. If you go back.
[00:40:05] And you watch. That. That video. Like that. That part. Like that. That song. In the concert. Mm-hmm. Like you under. Like. It's like. It's heartbreaking. Because it's her talking about. Her heartbreak. And there's a point in the song. Like near the end. Where they. They do that whole thing. You know. Time slips. Time. Time slips away.
[00:40:38] From the voices that haunt you. Or. I can't remember exactly how it goes. Yeah. But like. It's like this. If you listen to those lyrics. Understanding what the. Where the song comes from. Yeah. It's like. Wow. That is. Anger and heartbreak. All in one. Yeah. Mo. And in the. In the concert. In the middle. Like. And. They. The. The people were talking. Like. They agreed to let her do Silver Springs. And. They said. You could tell she was holding something back in the rehearsals.
[00:41:09] Mm-hmm. But. And they thought about pulling it from the show. But she's like. No. Let me do it. Mm-hmm. They get to that point at the end of the song. Like. We always talk about like. When Lindsay does. Go your own way. You can see him giving her the side eye. Yeah. Like. You know. Like. This is like. This is you. This is a fuck. This is my fuck you song. Yeah. She literally turns. Like. She is now facing Lindsay. Microphone. And everything. Like. Just.
[00:41:45] It's the most intense. Moment. I have ever. Seen in like real life. Okay. Like. It was like. At that moment. These two people were admitting their pain to each other. Yeah. Yeah. Like. It was like. I was like. Holy shit. Like. How. Like. I remember watching this in 97. And I thought. I mean. There was a great chorus here. But like. How did I miss this? Right. Right. Because it's like this great moment now. Like. In my mind. Like. This is like.
[00:42:14] This is an amazing moment. Where I'm looking back at this. And I'm watching. Like. Her just completely. No longer looking at the crowd. Looking right at him. Like. Move the microphone to. This way. So she's looking right at him. And she's singing the song. And he's looking right back at her. And you're just like. They forgot that there was a crowd at that moment. Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. It was just those two. And that. It is so intense. Like. Go back and watch that. If. If. If you like. Yeah. I was just like. Holy shit.
[00:42:44] I. Like. I remember that. That course. I remember being excited for that concert in 97. I watched it on MTV. Mm. But I. Like. And it's. And like. I've always liked that song. Time cast a spell. Time cast a spell on you. And you won't forget me. I know I could have loved you. But you would not let me. Yeah. Like that. Like that whole. It's a great song. Oh. It's an amazing song.
[00:43:14] But like that ending to that song is like. Heartbreaking. It is. Because it's. It's that thing of like. To me. That's the song where she bears her soul. Yeah. Like Dreams is like a really good. And yes. I get it. Like if you listen to that song. And you understand the lyrics. It's like. Yeah. I get that. But that song. Silver Springs is the one where she bears her soul. Even before that. Like if you look back and listen to the original recording. It's like. Wow. That's intense.
[00:43:44] But. In that moment. In that concert. Right. It was like. Wow. No. I know. I get you. Yeah. Trying to think. Well. I like Fleetwood Mac. Oh. We both have established. Fleetwood Mac is. You know. Both of them are one of our favorite bands. Yeah.
[00:44:18] I mean. There's a lot of other good music. Other than Rumors. We just come back to Rumors. Because Rumors is probably one of the greatest albums of all time. Right. Wasn't never going back again on Rumors too? I think so. Yeah. Let me double check. But I'm fairly certain it was.
[00:44:47] Pretty sure it was. Yeah. Never going back again. Because it's secondhand news. Dreams. Never going back again. Don't stop. Go your own way. Songbird. The chain. You make loving fun. I don't want to know. Oh daddy. And gold dust woman. And gold dust woman. Yeah. Yeah. So that song. Never going back again. It's one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs ever. Yeah. Ever. It is.
[00:45:17] It's so simple. That's simple. It is simple. And the lyric. It's not simple guitar. It's not. But it sounds it. It took Anna forever to learn it. Yeah. But. Not forever. But I mean she learned it. Yeah. It's. Lyrically there's only a few lyrics to the song. Yeah. But I always felt that. You know that. That. That connects with you. With Fleetwood Mac. Right. Right. This song connects me. Him. Yeah.
[00:45:47] With Fleetwood Mac. And I. And I've. I've seen. I've watched the live performances of that. Yeah. Yeah. And. Stevie does the backups. Yeah. To that song. Yeah. Right. You know what I mean. And the lyrically it goes. She broke me down and let me in. Made me see where I've been. Been down one time. Been down two times. I'm never going back again. Yeah. Yeah. You don't know what it means to win. Come down and see me again. Been down one time. Been down two times. Never going back again.
[00:46:16] That's the whole lyrics to the entire song. Yeah. It's a fucking outrageous song. I mean like. To have. As little lyrics as that is. Right. And Nick's doing the backup. And they. And you see on that thing. They're looking at each other too. Yeah. Yeah. They're like. Been down one time. And he's like. Staring right at her. Yeah. The head's moving. You know what I mean? Like. To me. It's almost like. He's pouring his soul on this short little. Like sonnet. Yeah. You know what I mean? But he's. With just this amazing little guitar.
[00:46:47] Yeah. Like. It's like. It's. It. It's beautiful. It sounds simple. But I understand it's not. Like. But I mean. No. I know. I'm not putting it. Because. To me. Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most. Underrated guitarists of all time. I agree. But like. It's like a thing of like. It's just this simple little. Ding. Ding. Ding. You know. Yeah. It's not. You know. It's not Eddie Van Halen. But. Man. It's simple. And it works. So fucking well. It's just beautiful. Yeah. It reminds me of like.
[00:47:17] Something acoustically. The Beatles would do. Do you know what I mean? Like. It's just. Like. Yesterday-ish. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. It's that kind of guitar work. It's just. Yeah. It's just. It's. It's a beautiful song. Well. Like you said. It speaks to me on many levels. Right. Always has. But. Yeah. That has been like. Always been on repeat. Yeah. I love the song. I can't listen to it once. I have to listen to it two or three. Yeah.
[00:47:47] But. To me. I feel like he's pouring his soul out there. I do. Well. And that simple lyric. Yeah. It's simple lyrics. And just. The way that interaction between the two of them on stage was. When he was singing that song. I was like. Damn. Yeah. Never going back again. You know what I mean? Like. It's crazy. It's funny. Been down one time. Like. Like. Their relationship. Like.
[00:48:17] And the thing to remember is. Christine and John McVie were in the middle of a divorce. At the same time this album was being made. Yeah. You know what I mean? And. Like. Like. Her contribution was. You make love and fun. Yeah. You know. Like. It wasn't like. Angry. Like. Theirs was. Yeah. You know. Like. I don't know what her and John McVie's relationship was like. But it seemed like it was much more civil. Than. Lindsay and Stevie.
[00:48:47] And. Lindsay. And. Like. They never got over it. No. No. They never got over it. I still don't think they're over it. No. Like. They're doing interviews today. Like. They're being asked. And he's still like. Yeah. She can go fuck herself. Yeah. You know. Yeah. She's telling people. Like. Joe Walsh was my. My true love. Like. No. It was Lindsay. Otherwise.
[00:49:16] You wouldn't still be pissed at him. Yeah. You know. You're so pissed at Lindsay. You asked him to stop playing. Fucking. I'm. What's your call. Uh. Shacking up. That's all you want to do. That song. I can't think of anything. Go your own way. Go your own way. You asked them this. For the final. Show. Like. They did that final tour. Mm. And. One of the reasons they fired Lindsay Buckingham. Was.
[00:49:46] They. See. Was like. Can you stop playing that song? And he's like. No. No. I'm not. Yeah. Can you stop playing all yours? Yeah. Right. You know. And he's like. No. I'm like. Well. She doesn't like it when you sing that. Right. So they had to hire two guys. To take the place of one. There's only two left. Right? Well. No. John.
[00:50:16] John. They died. Huh? Christine. Christine McVie died. John's still alive? I think John's still alive. Okay. Like. When they did the. When they did the final tour. That was before Christine McVie died even. Mm. But. Like. When they did that final tour. They fired him. They fired Lindsay. Because he. He was. He wasn't being a team player. Right. And I get that. Like. You fire Lindsay. Because you have to keep Stevie. You can't tour without Stevie. Right. But.
[00:50:45] Then you had to hire two guys. To replace. Lindsay Buckingham. Right. Because there's nobody that could. That could play guitar that well. And sing. Right. You know. Could crash me up. Yeah. Like. Just. Stand there and take go your own way. You know. Yeah. And just let him play. It was crazy. Yeah. I saw Stevie Nicks live. Ooh. I'd say.
[00:51:15] 2002. Yeah. 2003. She played with Sheryl Crow. Yeah. It was a great show. She was amazing. Stevie Nicks. Yeah. Absolutely amazing. To see live. I never saw Fleetwood Mac live. No. I never saw Fleetwood Mac live. I never saw Stevie Nicks live. But at least I got Nicks live. Yeah. You know. And she plays those Fleetwood Mac songs.
[00:51:45] Yeah. Yeah. She does. Yeah. Um. And he was a talented drummer too. Drummer. Right. Like. They were the most amazing. Like. It's like. This weird thing of like. Like. He's an amazing drummer. Three amazing songwriters. You know. Like. I don't. I don't know how you rank bassists. Like. You know. But I feel like.
[00:52:15] John McVeigh had to have been a really good fucking bassist. You know. And there are a few songs where like. You hear that bass like. Um. Like. And you make love and fun. Yeah. Like. There's a lot of bass in that. Yeah. That you like hear. And um. It's like. They're like one of the best collections of talent. Yeah. Ever. Yeah. They are. You know. And. It's ridiculous. Like. How good they were.
[00:52:48] You know. It's funny. I was talking to somebody. Yeah. It was. A guy's 70. 70 some years old. Yeah. And. He grew up in. Upstate New York. Somewhere I think. Yeah. And. I can't remember when he went to college. They saw a lot. He's 74 years old. So he saw a lot of shit. Went to Woodstock. I mean. Yeah. Been there. Yeah. And. And. He said one of the best shows. He's ever seen was. He like.
[00:53:18] Saw Hendrix. At like. Before Woodstock. Yeah. Like. Small clubish. Yeah. And he was talking about. You know. Him. Destroying the guitar. Yeah. And his sound. And playing upside down. And all this shit. Yeah. You know what I mean. And he was a Hendrix fan. Yeah. And. But. I just found that to most. I love listening to stories like that. Yeah. You know what I'm saying. Oh yeah. Like. Seeing these bands before.
[00:53:48] It's sort of like our Lollapalooza. Right. Because when Lollapalooza came out. All kinds of fucking bands. I mean. All these bands were. The early Lollapalooza. Yeah. Startup bands. You know what I mean. Yeah. Including. Which is. One of. I still say. They're one of the most. Underrated bands. Ever. Is Blind Melon. They have a fucking sound. Outside of the B song.
[00:54:18] Right. Right. There's a southern. It's really good. But anyway. I can't comment. And here's why. I saw them live. Okay. They opened up for the Rolling Stones. Okay. On the Voodoo Lounge tour. When I saw them. Uh huh. They were the worst fucking opening act. I ever saw. Have you listened to the music. Outside of. Live. Right. But the problem was. I know. I mean. I'm tainted. Because like. To me. Like. If you don't sound good live. I know. I don't trust what was recorded. Yeah. But more importantly.
[00:54:47] The thing I should put aside is. I think like. Two months later. That dude was dead. Yeah. Dead. You know. So. Like. What I saw. Was it just because he was so fucked up? Probably. You know. But still. It was like. But they have some really good songs. Right. And it was like something. I was actually looking forward to seeing them live. So. Like. I have a hard time going back and listening to their music. Just because. My experience seeing them live was so bad. Right. So. Like. I.
[00:55:17] But I get what you're saying. Like. I mean. I'm sure. Like. I'll. There are a lot of bands like that. Yeah. But he. There are other stuff. Outside of that song. Yeah. Like. Candlebox. Fantastic. I mean. Like. Just wailing. Yeah. I mean. Like. Really. Really good. Yeah. But they're remembered for that song. Yeah. And it just wasn't them. You know what I mean? Right. I mean. Not that that wasn't a good song. It was a good song.
[00:55:47] It was just overplayed. Right. Sort of like ZZ. Right? ZZ has so many good songs. Outside of the five popular songs that they put up. Wouldn't you agree? Yeah. Well. I mean. If you go back. And you listen to like. Pre-Eliminator. It's what I'm saying. Yeah. Because like. Everyone. Everyone's like. Oh. ZZ Top. And it's like. You know. Legs. Sharp. And. And. You know. But. Yeah. Like. I mean. You know. You know. The underrated. Tube Snake Boogie.
[00:56:17] Correct. You know. But I mean like. Lagrange. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. The stuff before Eliminator. There's some amazing shit in that catalog. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Oh yeah. But they're known for. But. Because. It was like that. That Texas blues sound. Yeah. And they almost change. Like if you look. Because if you listen to Eliminator. They sound much different than they do pre-Eliminator. Correct. Because they change to become. Right. Popular. To hit the charts. But like. Pre-Eliminator.
[00:56:45] It was a very much a Texas blues sound. Yeah. That's reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Correct. Like they came from like the same. Yes. Exactly. Except. Stevie Ray Vaughan's a guitar god. I mean. Not that. Billy Gibson's. Really fucking good too. Right. Right. But like. Stevie Ray Vaughan is like. Yeah. Top five. No I know. You know. I know. But that sound. Yeah. That sound. That pre-Easy Eliminator. Yeah.
[00:57:13] It's just an amazing sound. It is. Yeah. I mean. It's just amazing stuff. That's where I'm kind of getting with Blind Melon. Yeah. I'm not making a comparison. Right. No. I understand. I'm just saying. Right. Outside of the B song. Yeah. There were some really good songs by Blind Melon that never got heard. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? It's like Extreme. Yes. Like. You know. All Extreme is known for is Be With You. Yeah. Which is like a great ballad. But. Like.
[00:57:43] You take a look at some of their stuff. And it's like. You know. They were. A good. Quote unquote. Hair metal band. Right. That's got. You know. Tied up with that one fucking song. Like Skid Row. Skid Row has some good songs. Yeah. But I mean. I don't. Like. There are some good songs outside of. 18 in life. And I remember you. Yeah. I mean. That's the two songs that are the most popular. Right. I mean. Monkey business is there. But not really. Yeah.
[00:58:12] But there were some really good songs. Thanks Bon Jovi. But I mean. There were some. You know that whole deal. Yeah. Yeah. But. And Sambora. Actually Sambora sold the rights back. Yeah. But. I don't know. It's just. I don't know. That's the magic of the internet now. Right. You can go back and listen to anything that you fucking want to. Well. That's. Did I tell you my. It's not my story. Actually. I shouldn't say that.
[00:58:42] But. My senior year of high school. We took a senior trip to Cedar Point. And. I. You know. Apparently. Skid Row was in town. And so. My buddies. Saw Sebastian Bach. Okay. And. Apparently. Like. He got. You know. Word gets out of Sebastian Bach. And now all of a sudden. Every.
[00:59:12] Teenager is rushing him. Yeah. And apparently he. He. He jumped. And started climbing one of the roller coasters. He got arrested. Who did? Sebastian Bach. Oh really? Yeah. Like to get away. He like. Jumped the fence. And like. Cause you know. Like. Especially to Cedar Point. You can have like these like. Grassed areas. But there's like the roller coaster. Right. Right. So he jumped like the. Into the grassed area. Then ran. And climbed up one of the roller coasters. And got arrested. Nice. Yeah.
[00:59:42] I did not see him though. I can't confirm or deny this happened. But. Yeah. My one buddy was like. Dude. I touched Sebastian Bach. I'm like. Get the fuck out of here. Where was Sebastian Bach? Nice. Yeah. So. Yeah. Skinny ass clown shit. Yeah. I hate this. Indeed. Love good music though. I. I. I do too.
[01:00:13] Hmm. Like I hate. Cause I get on these forums. And it's like you know. Gen X. Now I start like listening. Like you know. I. Like. They'll mention something. Like what's a great. Gen X song. And somebody will put. Like a. A Fleetwood Mac song. Or. Led Zeppelin. And they're like. That's not Gen X. That's boomer music. Yeah. I'm like. The fuck it is. That's what I grew up on. Yeah. Like you know.
[01:00:43] As I was listened to as a child. My boomer parents were playing this for me. You know. Right. And. Like. To me like there's always an overlap. Of generations. Okay. Like. The 70s. Gen X and the boomers. Overlap. Cause like. That's like the music. Like when the boomers were in their 20s. Okay. You know. And then.
[01:01:13] Gen X overlaps with millennials in the 90s. Right. Because that's the music of Gen X in their 20s. And then. You know. The millennials were growing up with it. Right. And then. You know. I'm sure like. The 2010s is an overlap for millennials and. You know. Gen Z. Yeah. You know. But. Like there's always like some overlap. So what happened to my kids?
[01:01:43] Well. I'm just kidding. But like your kids have what like you and I have. Like. They appreciate the music of the past. Like that. They have no problem like digging in the music. And like. My dad always said the thing he loved about me was. I found out. Like who influenced Led Zeppelin. Now we go back and listen to that. Right. I found out who influenced the Rolling Stones. I go back and listen to that. Right. Because I appreciated like.
[01:02:13] Well if you're the influence of band I love. I'll bet I like this too. And I was usually right. Yeah. And that's why like. You know. You go back and you listen to Chuck Berry. Yeah. You know. You listen to Elvis. You listen to stuff like that. Because that's what was influencing the bands I love. Your kids are the same way. Like they're going. They're willing to go back. And like. You know. This band I like. Is influenced by this band.
[01:02:41] Let me go back and listen to this. And. They're. That's being lost a little bit. Yeah. Like I think that was more. I hate to say like. Oh that was more pro-vo in our generation. But I do think like. Later. Or earlier. You know. Later generations are kind of coming up and saying like. Well I don't care what was influenced by this. Right. Like to the point like.
[01:03:10] It's being sampled in their songs. And they're like. And when you point out to them like. Oh. Yeah. No. This is. This is where the influence is. This is why this song sounds like this. Right. You know. This is. Know your history. You know. Right. Right. But nobody wants to do that anymore. Oh. Long legs. It ended with T-Rex. Oh. Okay. Yeah. I knew it'd come eventually. Yeah. Start talking about music. I like T-Rex by the way.
[01:03:40] I like T-Rex too. Yeah. The girls have an interesting musical taste. There was a song. What. I want to say it was All the Young Dudes. But I know I'm wrong. See if I can find this real quick. All the Young Dudes. How about this. This. All right. Fine.
[01:04:10] That's. It's. It's not. It's Since You've Been Gone. Since You've Been Gone. That. Yeah. Since You've Been Gone. Yeah. But it's Brian May. Oh really? Yeah. That's man. Yeah.
[01:05:02] Yeah. What was this such a year? 90s. Wow. This was. I found out some information on this. Because my dad brought this up to me. He's like. You need to see this. And he played that for me like one day. And I'm like. That is fucking amazing. That's ridiculously amazing. And so I did some research. I found somebody. Somebody posted this.
[01:05:31] And it was. He did an interview. Where he was talking about like. It was post Freddy dying. It was post. The Freddy concert. Okay. And he's like. I had to go on with my life. And he's like. And I wanted to put. As much distance as I could. Between me and Queen. Okay. Like I didn't want to do Queen. It hurt. Right. I had to get away from it. He's like. So I like. Did stuff like this. Yeah. And like. That version of. Since you've been gone.
[01:06:01] That live version. Is so. Fucking good. Yeah. It's like. I'd love to find the entire concert. You know what I mean? Like. Yeah. Yeah. That was like. So fucking good. I was like. Jeez. You know. And like the background vocalists. And like. And he talked about like. The band that he had. And like. I was like. Oh. But. Like. When my dad first. Like my jaw was a game. Because I mean. I know how good Brian May is. I know how good he is as a guitarist. I know he can sing. Like.
[01:06:31] But. To see him in like that. Arena. Yeah. Yeah. Like doing. And again. Like. I mean. That. That is as far away from Queen. As you can get. Yeah. Yeah. You know. But it sounds so damn good. He did sound good. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. That was pretty impressive. It is. I love finding odd stuff like that. Yeah. I found on Twitter. Her name is Beth Hart. Oh yeah.
[01:07:01] I never heard of her before. She's been around forever. Uh huh. She's a blues singer. Uh huh. But she did an album of Led Zeppelin covers. Uh huh. And this is a video of her doing a whole lot of love. Uh huh. And. Like. It's one thing to like cover. Stairway to Heaven. Yeah. Like. As much as I love Ann Wilson. And I will tell you. Ann Wilson is maybe the greatest. Greatest female vocalist of all time. Right. Ann Wilson was smart enough to like.
[01:07:31] You know. Yeah. I will keep it simple. You know. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean. That's saying a lot when you're talking about like. Stairway to Heaven or. Um. The Battle of Evermore. Yeah. Beth Hart doing a whole lot of love. I was like. Holy shit. Yeah. That girl's got a voice. Hmm. I listened to some of her stuff. And I was just like. Oh man. This. This girl's. Good. Yeah. Yeah. Been around forever. I never heard of her. And I'm glad I found her.
[01:08:00] Because that's some good shit. Interesting. Right. Yeah. Like I love being surprised by that. Like that. Yeah. Like I. And I hate to say. I mean. You know. I sound old. I'm like. You know. New music can't surprise me anymore. Just because I don't think new music has like that soul of like. Like I hate saying that. Because I'm sure there's some out there that are doing it. Yeah. But it just. It's like. Like. Here's a prime example. Like. Jelly Roll. Right. Not my. Like. I can appreciate.
[01:08:30] That dude's got an amazing voice. He's got an amazing backing band. Uh. He sounds great. It's just not my style of music. Yeah. Okay. So I shouldn't be saying like. There's not music out there that has that soul. Because. He definitely has it. Yeah. It's just I. Don't care for that style of music. Right. But like. There was a soul to music. That like. You only hear it in like.
[01:08:59] Older music like that. Like now it's like. Like. I feel like most artists are like. How can I cash in quick? Yeah. I agree. I think a. A good example of that is like. Good songwriters and good songs that you feel. Yeah. Right. Seeger did that for me. Oh yeah. There's some Seeger songs that were like. Man dude. You are.
[01:09:25] You are like one of the best songwriters I've ever heard in my life. You know what I mean. Yeah. There are some songs like. Main Street. Yeah. Oh. What's my favorite Seeger song? There's a bunch of them. It's just like. Remember. Hollywood. Hollywood. Hollywood. Hollywood. Hollywood Nights. Hollywood Nights.
[01:09:55] That's so fucking good. Against the Wind. Against the Wind. Night Moves. Yeah. Still the same. No. That's one of my favorites. Still the same. And you'll accompany me. Roll Away is my favorite Bob Seeger song. Roll Away is a really fucking good Bob Seeger song. Fire Down Below. Yeah. Like. Traveling. It's just. Traveling Man. Beautiful Loser. So many songs out of this guy. Sometimes I'm going to. Bangaloo's getting out tonight. Oh. Oh.
[01:10:25] So fucking good. Like sometimes. I hit a mood where I'm like. Understanding. So many good songs. Is Bob Seeger better than Bruce Springsteen? Like. Is the American storyteller? Right. Like. When you think of Springsteen. Especially like early Springsteen. Up to like. Born in the USA album. All right. Like. He's telling the American story. Right. And. There's a lot of it that you're like. Yeah.
[01:10:55] Yeah. But then like. I hear Seeger. And I'm like. He might have told that American story. Just a little bit better. Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. It's a different. Different perspective. Right. It's kind of like how I feel about Billy Joel. Like. I love how Billy Joel tells the story. Yeah. Me too. Because. It's not. He's explaining the story to you. Right. Where like so many other bands. Like. You better just know this. Right. Right. Right. Like. And I'm just going to tell you what it is. Like. Billy Joel's like.
[01:11:25] Here's the backdrop. Here's this. Here's this. Here's the story. Right. You know. And it's like. He's so fucking good at that. He does. He tells a story with his songs. Yeah. Even Uptown Girl. Right. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like. There's so many. There's so many. I mean. You know. That's basic. But what I'm saying is like. I like the fact that Billy Joel taps into shit that like. New York State of Mind. Yeah. New York State of Mind makes me appreciate New York. Right. Like. He tells that story beautifully. I mean.
[01:11:55] Like. Everybody's like. Oh. Well. You know. Scenes from an Italian restaurant. Yeah. I mean. That's. The low hanging fruit. Yeah. I'm talking about like. Some deeper stuff. Yeah. Like. Like where he tells you this amazing story. Like. Innocent Man. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know. I mean. Pressure. Pressure. Like. Yeah. There's a lot of stuff that he does. In. Like. Others. Like. Deeper songs. That like. It's not that low hanging fruit. Like. You know. Yeah. Scenes in an Italian restaurant. Sure. It's telling you a story. It's telling you like three stories.
[01:12:25] Yeah. You know. But. At the end of the day. Like. There are better songs than that. I think what. I like about Uptown Girl so much. Is like. I. I like the fact that he went back and tapped into that doo-wop. Yeah. You know what I mean. Like. Doo-wop was dead. Yeah. I mean. Dead. Dead. Yeah. I mean. Real dead. Yeah. I mean. There was nothing going on with doo-wop. Right. You know. All of a sudden. Billy Joel comes out of a song with Uptown Girl. And it's like. Whoa. I mean. Yeah. He was like Frankie Valli.
[01:12:55] Yeah. It was so weird. It was. It was like. So strange. And out of the box. And like. It was so like. What is this? It caught fire. People wanted it more. Yeah. You know what I mean. It was crazy. We only did doo-wop Joel. Yeah. It was nuts. Yeah. It even sounded like Frankie Valli at some points in that song. Because he goes so high. You know. Yeah. Just amazing. He never ceased. He never ceased to amaze me throughout the years.
[01:13:25] On the songs that he would come out with. Yeah. Damn. You know what I mean. Like. Just. Billy Joel. Now you can argue. That. Is. Is. You know. Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen. Billy Joel. And Seeger. Yeah. As far as songwriters. Then you have Warren Zevon. Not as popular. Well. Not as popular as Seeger. No. And. You know what I mean. No. I'm doing that because I'm like.
[01:13:54] I'm so in agreement with you. Like. I love Warren Zevon. I think it's a. A sin. That he is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And he is so much more than Werewolves of London. Oh yeah. Like. If you go back and you listen to Warren Zevon. Right. Like. You're going to find. Some. Just amazing storytelling. There is. I. He did like an acoustic album. Like a live acoustic album. Right. You look it up. Yeah.
[01:14:24] All right. So. The album I was trying to think of. Is called Learning the Flint. Oh yeah. It's from 1992. Okay. I had this on tape. Nice. Yeah. I used to listen to this walking home from work. Nice. But it was recorded during. He did a tour of like. Europe. And it was just him. There was no backing band. It was just him, a guitar, and a piano. Oh wow. And a harmonica from. I think for one song. Okay. But. It's amazing. Like. It is.
[01:14:54] Gorgeous. Really? How good this. Like. Because it's. I mean. And it's got Werewolves of London for those of you who need that. But like. Splendid Isolation is such a good fucking song. Lawyers, Guns, and Money is one of my all time favorites. Yeah. You know. Rolling the headless Thompson Gunner. Like. And. Like. It was in that era of like.
[01:15:23] It came out like right before the era of Unplugged. Okay. And. But he was unplugged. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And it's brilliant. And it's so well done. Yeah. Yeah. Like. If. It's available on Apple Music. I'm sure it's available on Spotify. If you want to get into. Warren Zevon. Learn more about Warren Zevon. To me. That is a great. Launching point. Yeah. Yeah. Because that was my launching point. Right.
[01:15:58] That. That old. Oh. It was an HBO show. It had. Gary Shanling. It was the one where he was the talk show host. It was on HBO. Yeah. I can't remember what it was called. But. They had Warren Zevon on. Yeah. And. The producer is like. You know. Gary really loves Werewolves of London.
[01:16:28] And Warren's like. You know. I've got. So many other songs. That I've written over the years. That are. A lot better than that. Right. Right. You know. And I really. I kind of am sick of playing. Werewolves. Right. Right. It's like. Well. Why don't I play French Inhaler? And the guy's like. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Sure. So. On the show. He's like. He's like. On this like. David Letterman. Tonight. Yeah. And he plays a French Inhaler. Actually it was called the Gary Shanling show. Yeah. I think so. Yeah.
[01:16:58] Yeah. And he plays a French Inhaler. And Gary's like. From the desk. He's like. Hey Warren. That was really. Really great. Because you play Werewolves of London. Nice. Warren just like. Draw his head drops. And he's like. Yeah. Sure. I could do that for you. Yeah. Nice. Fucking brilliant. So yeah. I mean. You talk about American songwriters.
[01:17:28] I agree with you 100%. Warren Zevon is. Vastly underrated. Yeah. In my opinion. Anyway. Anyway. All right. So let's see. That may have had something to say in his email. I can't remember. Let me look here real quick. Um.
[01:18:01] No. He's got nothing. Except. I guess. This weekend. He was going to Kennywood. Kennywood Open. I guess. For their. Their special people. Yeah. It was a big to do. Yeah. Yeah. And. Uh. So he'll have a review of that. So I'm sure we'll hear all about. That's. Trip to Kennywood. Enjoying the potato patch fries. With gravy. Yeah. It was cold enough.
[01:18:31] That that's acceptable. Nice. It was. I mean. It was a. Like. I would not have wanted to go to Kennywood today. It was kind of a chilly day. Yeah. You know. Can't have that much fun. But I can enjoy potato patch fries. With gravy. Because you know. That makes sense on a chilly day. Right. Not uh. Not with a thousand degrees outside. With a hundred percent humidity. The bees are circling the trash cans. Right. I'm not sitting down to enjoy a lemonade. And. Some potato patch fries.
