[00:00:23] Welcome to episode 606 of the Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast. I'm Sean. I'm Nancy and this is the only podcast that says... That's what Jesus said. Yes, I had to tell him. Can you imagine how that hurt the father? Not to be able to tell the son himself because one word from his lips would destroy the boy's frail human form? So I was forced to deliver the news to the sacred child who wanted nothing more than to play with other children.
[00:00:51] I had to tell this little boy that he was God's only son. And that it meant a life of persecution and eventual crucifixion at the hands of the very people he came to enlighten and redeem. He begged me to take it back as if I could. He begged me to make it all not true. And I'll let you in on something, Bethany. This is something I've never told anyone before. If I had the power, I would have.
[00:01:22] Bethany? Yeah. Is this a Kevin Smith movie? Yes. So it's either... Wait. It's either Chasing Amy... No. ...or the Jesus one. Dogma. Dogma. Yeah. Dogma. I'm not... It's a Metatron talking to... What Bethany wanted. Like, just take it all away. I don't want this. So why did you use that tonight? I don't know. I was in the mood for a Kevin Smith quote. Oh. And... Well, that'll do it. Yeah.
[00:01:52] So I thought it had a little dogma. A little dogma. Yeah. You thought you were going to throw me. Well, I always want... You know what? I always want to... I don't think I've ever quoted anything from Chasing Amy. Uh... And I've always wanted to, but... Like, most of the stuff in that is like... Such massive monologues. Bless you. Thank you. But it's like these massive monologues. Yeah. Like... Yeah. It's the Kevin Smith dialogue you gotta deal with. Yeah.
[00:02:21] Or... Like, it's like... Just completely inappropriate for me. Like... I mean, it's the... The whole thing that... At the beginning of the movie, at the Comic Con with Hooper, and that whole diatribe he goes on about, you know, black people in comic books. We're in Dogma? No, in Chasing Amy. Oh, my God. I watched that movie once, and I barely watched it because I was not... The only good thing about that movie was Jason Lee, and that was barely good. I just... I don't care for it.
[00:02:51] I just don't. Okay. I mean, if it's your cup of tea, eh? For a long time, that was my favorite Kevin Smith movie. I know, and it's a nice story and everything. I just... It's problematic. Yeah. Like, to not... Like, looking back at it now, and even Kevin Smith admits it's a problematic movie because of... It has its issues, for sure. Yeah. But... At the time, it... You know, it's a movie that has... Of all of his movies, and not because of performance or writing or anything, it's aged poorly because of content.
[00:03:22] Ah. Okay. Like, the way... Like, the... The white male savior is coming to save the lesbian from being a lesbian. Right, yeah. There's a lot of, like, problems, like, you know, where... Yeah, that was my whole issue with it. Yeah. Yeah, right there. Yeah, so... Like, there's a whole documentary about... It's called Chasing Chasing Amy. Really? And it was this... It was a gay person.
[00:03:48] He's like, this is the first time I ever saw gay people in a movie. What? Think about it. He didn't watch many movies then. But it was like... I mean, Chasing Amy came out in 95. Oh, I'm sure there's plenty of underground movies that gay people in a movie. I'm sure there are, too. But my point is like... But this is like the first thing you saw, like, kind of mainstream-ish. Yeah. And it was like... Has it been that long since it came out? Yeah. Yeah. How old? So, but he taught...
[00:04:17] This person talked about, like, you know, so this was like an influential movie to me. Right. And I love it for what it is. But at the same time, there are many in the LGBTQ community who will tell you it is very problematic. Right, yeah. And he's trying to... And Kevin Smith even agreed to be interviewed for it. Really? Yeah. I didn't know that. Yeah, I mean, one, I think Smith, he's always willing to help a filmmaker.
[00:04:47] Oh, okay. So, the guy that's talking about it is a filmmaker. Right. But two, I think Kevin Smith also kind of wanted to address it. Like, you know, it's like one of those things where it's like, it's kind of hard to like... I don't think he's trying to justify it. I think he just kind of wanted to say, this was my headspace when I made it. Right. This was, you know, what my experience was.
[00:05:15] And this is why the movie was made. You know? So, he's willing to help a fellow filmmaker but not a fellow podcaster. I see how he is. Who's the fellow podcaster? You're going to say me? No. Yeah. No. Well, that's nice. You know, I get like some of those movies like are coming back like and people are questioning them. I didn't know that was one of them. Yeah. Well, I mean like a lot of stuff. Like, I mean...
[00:05:44] Well, I was reading a list and I thought the list was pretty interesting because there was a few movies on there that I was like, you should have named it something else. And it was a list about, I think it was like 10 movies, 10 movie remakes that shouldn't have been named what they were named. Right. Because they have nothing to do with the movie it was remade from. Right. And you know my number one on that list. Yeah. Point break. Yes. Name it something else. Right. And there was like a whole thing about why that movie didn't work. And I'm like, you see it now?
[00:06:14] I saw it before it was even released that there was a problem with it. But there are problematic movies. I mean, people will always like, you know, they'll point at like 16 Candles as a hugely problematic movie. What's wrong with 16 Candles? Well, okay. So, Michael Anthony Smith's character basically... Stalks?
[00:06:37] Well, and then is given Jake's drunk girlfriend for the night. Yeah. Like, you know, I mean, that's a bit problematic. I can see that actually fucking happening. In the 80s, absolutely. You can't see Chasing Amy happening. No, no. But I'm just saying, I mean, I'm talking about from a problematic standpoint of looking back at that movie, boy, was that wrong. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.
[00:07:04] There's many issues you're looking at and you're like... Yeah. But, I mean, I don't see them until I'm like older. As a kid, I thought that was great. But in the 80s, there was nothing wrong with that. Right, right. Like, you know, that wasn't considered a rape of some type. Right, no. You know, like today... Yeah, yeah, exactly. Why aren't you sitting in jail, boy? Yeah, like today, that's like, you know, wow, that... Yeah. I can't believe they went there. Yeah. And none of the parents know. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
[00:07:32] I mean, they're... Well, it's the same thing with Breakfast Club. You really think they were going to let all those kids sit in that goddamn library by themselves like that? On a Saturday? On a Saturday. Yeah, no. Absolutely not. Yeah, no, but they'd be sitting right in that fucking room with them. Right. He wouldn't be wandering around to school talking to the janitor. But in the 80s, he would be. In the 80s, he would be. Yes. Like, that's what happened in the 80s. But I don't know. I've never been in detention, and I've never had to go to something like that. Neither have I. I just never did.
[00:08:02] I'm actually surprised I never did as much as I've hated school and skipped. But I do know people that had, and they're like, no, they sit there the whole time and watch you. Yeah. And make you do shit. Well, I mean, like... And that was back in the 80s. Right. I mean, when we talk about stuff that wouldn't fly, I mean, I experienced that. My senior year of high school, I was taking a remedial math class. Ugh, math.
[00:08:28] Because, I mean, long story short, my sophomore year, I completely fucked up my life. And I had to drop from what we refer to as college prep to business. Oh. And so, going into my senior year, like, I didn't have study halls. I was taking, like, these remedial classes to get the credits I needed to graduate as a business. Right.
[00:08:55] Like, well, probably because you played football, they had to push you into something. Well, they did. I mean, this is the whole thing. It was either I fail because I couldn't do algebra. Right. And I couldn't understand Spanish. Oh, my God. Yeah. Or we'll put you... We'll do this for you. This allows you to basically null and void your sophomore year. Well, I didn't have study hall. I had all those art classes. Well, see, I... I elected to take more art classes. Right.
[00:09:23] But anyway, my point is, my senior year, first period, I was taking this 10th grade math class. Okay. And I walk into it, and the teacher looks at me. He goes, Kun, what are you doing here? I'm like, I don't know. It's on my schedule. And he goes, yeah, you can sit back there and sleep. What? He must have been a fan of the football team.
[00:09:50] Well, one, he knew it was a football thing. But also, two, like, in my defense, I could do... I mean, still, I'm pretty good at basic math. Like, algebra fucks me up. Like, I can't... Like, I don't understand algebra. Yeah, I mean... And when I got... Like, I should have failed algebra one my ninth grade year, but somehow I passed. Right. And then, my software, I'm taking algebra two, and I'm completely lost. Right.
[00:10:20] And it was, you know... Yeah, I get that, because that's what happened to me. Yeah. And all of a sudden, they realized, you should have never even passed algebra one. Yeah. How did you get to algebra two? Yeah. And I'm like, I don't know. I don't know. You tell me. So, back to math, you know. And I was fine with that, because I don't want to know algebra. Yeah. So, I'm, what, 52? I have never once in my life had to use an algebraic... Algebraic equation. Yeah. I can't even say it. Yeah. Let alone use it.
[00:10:50] But, I mean, I did. Like, if I became an accountant, obviously, I'd have to know shit like that. Or maybe to that point. Yeah, yeah. And, like, you don't use it even now. Oh, I have no idea what they do. But, like... Yeah, like, I mean, so I could do, like, math. I meant basic. I meant math. Math that you would have to know, not algebra. Sorry. Math, math I can do. Oh, regular math. And my teacher knew that. No, I knew math. Yeah, this teacher knew that. He's like, you're confident enough that you're going to be able to pick this up on test day. You can do it.
[00:11:20] On test day. And if not, I'll be here with the answers. Don't worry. When I walk past it, right here. Oh, yeah. And, I mean... The funny thing, I got, like, a B in that class. What? Yeah. He didn't even give you a C. No, because I missed all the tests. I had people copying off of me. Who were like... They're like, do you know what's going on? I'm like, yeah, this is easy. And they're like, okay, can I copy? Yeah, because the teacher's giving me all the answers. The teacher...
[00:11:50] I was not giving the answers to the tests. I know. But, I mean... I'm just kidding. It was just... It was math. You're going to pretend you knew the answers, wink, wink. Yeah. So, I've got, like, three people, you know, copying off of me. And I'm, like, you know, back sleeping on a heating vent. First period every day, like, you know, just crashing. You and Sabine get along. Yeah. So. That's funny. Yeah. I can honestly... That shit would not fly today. No!
[00:12:20] None of it. No. None of it. No. Unless you were, like... I know people that were in school in other states. And that just, like, slid by and was let go on a lot of stuff just to get them out of there. Yeah. Because there are so many kids in that school. Yeah. They got to get them out. But my school didn't have that problem. Mine either. My graduating class had 92 people. I don't know how many of my kids...
[00:12:50] I didn't graduate. I know, but you were in Florida, so you probably had a good 400. I don't know. There's a ton of people in that class. Yeah. I mean, I got my GED later. Yeah. Not a high school dropout, per se, but, you know, I didn't graduate high school. So. I've been watching a few things. Uh-oh. Yeah. We're going down this tunnel again. Yeah. Well. There are some things that need to be reviewed. Okay.
[00:13:18] Anything I watched or would be interested in? Well, I think the first thing I watched Friday, I went and I said, I saw Captain America. Right. Brave New World. Right. It's good. It's a Marvel movie. Right. Like, I'm not going to go deep into the story because you haven't seen it yet or anything. But the only thing I will say, like, if you've seen the trailer, you already know this. Like. I haven't seen the trailer yet. You haven't even seen the trailer? No, I haven't even pulled it up yet.
[00:13:47] I thought you were going to send it to me that day and you never did. So pause and let me watch it. Okay. Hold on. All right. So now that you've watched the trailer. Yes. The mistake in that trailer is they show you the Red Hulk. Yeah. Yeah. I can't believe they revealed it. And they showed who it was. Right.
[00:14:10] Well, I mean, that part isn't because they give the whole time since the Incredible Hulk movie with Edward Morton. Hmm. In the comic books, Thaddeus Ross, General Ross, is the Red Hulk. Okay.
[00:14:29] Like, I can't remember exactly what happens, but he deliberately, I think it's a combination of the super soldier serum and gamma radiation he uses because he's trying to beat Banner. That's, and if I'm with that, there's always his end goal is to destroy Banner. Right. I mean, it would have to be. Yeah. So. I'm sorry. The, you know, the comic book community is always like, well, when does Ross become the Red Hulk? When do we get the Red Hulk? When do we get the Red Hulk? Right.
[00:14:58] And then William Hurt died, who was playing Ross in those movies. Okay. And they replaced him with Harrison Ford. So, but anyway. But. I think you talked into that. I don't know. He doesn't do that kind of stuff. He, as he said, it was money. Oh God. That dude's a billionaire by now. Because somebody asked me, he's like, how difficult is it for you?
[00:15:25] You know, because I'm sure you're just in like a motion capture suit and you're doing Hulk stuff. He's older. Yeah. He's like, how do you get work through how moronic you must look? And he's like, that's what the money's for. Ah. Okay. Okay. All right. So he doesn't need it. Yeah. So anyway. But anyway, my point is. For it always has those cool answers. This movie, the entire time is building up to the Red Hulk. Okay.
[00:15:55] Okay. This is what you're. So you only get that at the ass end? Yes. Oh. No. But that's what the movie's building towards. Yeah. Everything is taking place. All the machinations that are happening are so Ross can become the Red Hulk. So there's going to be another one including him then. Well. If they only did at the ass end. I'm not revealing anything. Okay. Okay.
[00:16:26] But this is my. This is my only complaint about the movie is that is ruined. Like it's something they should have never shown. Yeah. They never. Like I understand why you did it. Because you have an audience out there that's not going to accept. Yeah. A black Captain America. Or him in general. Yes.
[00:16:55] Because he's, you know, somebody else. Right. Right. So you, you, and you, you throw the carrot out there of, well, we're going to have Red Hulk in this too. Yeah. Yeah. And like my thinking is if those people are such scumbags that they're going to be like, black Captain America ain't black. I ain't going to go see this movie. Then fine. Fuck you. Don't see the movie. Yeah.
[00:17:24] You lose out. Yeah. Like, like honestly, that's my opinion. And if, if that's, you know, you know, the little DEI Captain America, you know, shut up. You know, you're, you're the problem. Another what? DEI. It's a, what is it? Diversity and include, I can't remember what it stands for. Um, but anyways, I mean, that's a term that a lot of like, you know, racist people like to throw around is like, yeah.
[00:17:54] I hear DEI. I think Dale Earnhardt industries, you know, I don't even like NASCAR, but that's the first thing. That's the first thing. That's the first thing. Anyway. But, but my, my, that's my only problem with this movie. Like, I mean, it's a Marvel movie. It doesn't reinvent the wheel. It follows the formula that every Marvel movie follows. It was okay. Like it wasn't great, you know, but I enjoyed it.
[00:18:19] I just wish they had kept that a secret so that when you get to it, it's a surprise. Right. Like, yeah. Oh shit. It's the Red Hulk. Yeah. Like. And then once, you know, the first batch of people see it, where it's going to get around. Right. So at that point it didn't matter, but you could have waited. Yeah. Yeah. Like there is a phenomenal surprise in the movie and I enjoyed the shit out of that surprise.
[00:18:47] I'm glad they kept that under wraps, but I wish they had kept Red Hulk under wraps too, instead of using it as part of the marketing campaign. Yeah. Because that's the point of the movie is you're reaching that point. So you could be as surprised as the people in the Rose Garden audience. Right. There's a red one? Yeah. You know, so. I'm sorry. I was more interested in the moves that the new Captain America was doing. They were pretty badass. Yeah.
[00:19:15] Like, I mean, he went, he sliced that car right in half. Yeah. That was cool. You know, I was a little distracted. I was distracted by the moves. That's what happens when you're friends with the Wakandans and they give you a rush. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. The vibrated and laced wings. Yeah. I forgot about that. Yeah. The Wakandas. Yeah. That distracted me more than the Red Hulk, although it was cool to see that. Yeah. Yeah. So sorry.
[00:19:44] I was looking at something totally different. Right. But like, I enjoyed the shit out of the movie. I mean, you know, it's a Marvel movie. Is it spectacular? No. No. But is it very good? I enjoyed it. Yes. And very fun. In a very fun way. There was a, a mini trailer before that for a movie on Apple TV called The Gorge. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I watched that last night. Does that have, is that Jeremy Renner? No. No.
[00:20:13] Who is that in there? Um. I saw the face quickly. I couldn't remember what I saw. I can't think of his name now. Anna Taylor Joy. And. Oh. Um. Wait. Never mind. Ugh. All right. Miles Teller. That's it. That's who. That's it. That's it.
[00:20:42] Why did I say Jeremy Renner? I don't know. What was I watching that his face popped into my head? I have no idea. I can't remember. But. It's on Apple TV. I watched it. I enjoyed the shit out of this movie. Like, I really did. Like, I. And it's. Is it what I think it's about because of what I saw? Well. The basis of the movie is there's this, there's Gorge.
[00:21:13] Okay. And there are two century posts. One on the east side. One on the west side. The Russians control the east. The U.S. and the British control the west. Okay. Every 365 days, a new guardian is put in place on each side. I'm sorry. How many days? 365. So once a year. Yeah. Once a year. So they're put in place on a one year rotation.
[00:21:43] To. Guard the gorge. Wow. Because there are things in the gorge. That are trying to get out. Other than people. Yes. Okay. And so. The guy. Like, when. When Miles Teller shows up and he's relieving the guy. The guy's giving him, like, the whole. The whole spiel. And he tells him, like. And Miles Teller's like. What about the. The. The watchtower over there. Oh, we don't.
[00:22:13] That's the Russians. We're not the interactive time. Well. It's Anna Taylor Joy over there. Eventually they end up interacting. Yeah. You know. And it's just. Via science. Yes. You know. But. That leads to the story. Which is, you know. Whatever's in that gorge. And, you know. Just happens to want to come out when they're on watch. For their year. Well. It happens periodically. Because they have, like, these. Like. Motion sensing guns. Like. These mini guns. That will, like.
[00:22:43] Like. There's a whole. There's a lot of creatures. Yes. Okay. But here's the thing. Are they sleeping there? It's only them. These things. They're up 24-7. How does this work? Can they go home and come back? You're saying they're there for a year. They are there for a year. It's like the people that guard. They don't know where they're at. They don't even know. Like. Miles Teller. When he agrees to take. No. When he agrees to take this on. He's under sedation. So he doesn't even know. Like. When he wakes up on the airplane. They're like. He's like.
[00:23:13] Well, where am I? Like. I'm not authorized to tell you that. He's given, like, a non. Descript map. How did he get under sedation? They. I mean. He agreed to this. Who does he work for? Or. That's, again. A part of the mystery. Oh. There's all sorts of mysteries taking place here. Yeah. I'm like. You were, like. Way into this story. And I didn't even get the beginning. Like. There's a lot going on. Yeah. I mean. Like. Where they are. It's.
[00:23:43] He is. He is by himself. It's. Solitary. There's no leaving. There's no going home. There's no. Communication. Other than. Once a month. There is a radio transmission. A radio check. To. Verify that they're. How do they eat? How do they sleep? They. They hunt. They have a bed. You know. Um. They have a garden. But. Yeah. I mean. This is like. Fuck that shit. Yeah. Like.
[00:24:11] They are completely on their own. These two just happen to end up there. And this is when the creatures decide to get really rowdy. Well. Or watch. There's more to it than that. Okay. So something. Provokes that or something. Okay. Right. All right. You don't have to reveal. Because I don't want you telling people. Because I'm probably going to watch it. Right. I don't want to spoil this. Yeah. Because I'm probably going to watch it. Yeah. I highly recommend it. You got me interested in this. But. But yeah. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a really good movie. Yeah. Plus it's Miles Teller. I like. Yeah. I mean. Miles Teller is a great actor.
[00:24:42] Anna Taylor-Joy is a great actress. Yeah. It. So it's very. You know. I enjoyed the heck out of it. And. I also watched. The final. Part. Of the final. Season. Of Cobra Kai. What? Yes. Oh shit. Yes. I have to be honest. I'm behind a season on that. I really am. I just. I got interested in other shit. These documentaries. Fuck them.
[00:25:13] Well. I'm going to say this. About the. The last five episodes. Of Cobra Kai. They should have quit. Two seasons ago. No. Here's the thing with Cobra Kai. Okay. Like. The. The original premise of the show. Was kind of really simple. Yes. You know. It was. Like. The redemption of Johnny Lawrence. 30 years into the future. Right. And.
[00:25:43] You know. The story that. That first season told. Was. Was really really good. Yes. Even the second one was good. Right. But it got. More and more. Bat shit crazy. As it goes. Ridiculous. And to the. It reaches a point in the. This final season of. Just. Levels of just. You've got to be kidding me. Are you kidding me? Especially the last five episodes. It's like. I can't believe. That this is what happened. And.
[00:26:13] I mean. It ends great. I mean. It. It ends on an amazing note. Okay. It's. It goes back to being. What it was supposed to be. Mm-hmm. Which is. Johnny Lawrence and Daniel La Russa. Mending. The fence between them. Yeah. The fence that was put up. Yeah. You know. But. Along the way. Yeah.
[00:26:42] You're thinking of a specific scene. Aren't you? Well. Because the problem becomes this. Like. You've got. Two villains. In this. In this show. Two major villains. You've got. John Kreese. Right. And you've got. Terry Silver. Terry Silver. And. You've got to find a way. To like. Like. Because. Like. Throughout the show. Like. Like. Stefano. You remember. Stefano. Like. The phoenix.
[00:27:12] That would rise from the ashes. Yes. That would terrorize. Our mothers and grandmothers. On days of our lives. Like. Once a year. They would bring the. Stefano back. And like. Yes. It was the same thing with those two. It was like. Well. You know. Reese went to jail. Well. He escaped. And somehow. He's still able to travel. In and out of the United States. Without any difficulty. Yeah. And Terry Silver. He was convicted of crimes. But. But. His lawyers clearly got him off. And I mean. It's like. Yeah. It's just so. So ridiculous. So ridiculous.
[00:27:41] And they're both rich. Or at least. Terry Silver. Like. But. Chris has to have some money. He has to. I don't know. He was in the service. Doesn't mean anything. He could have a pension. You never know. But my point. Like. They're both. Like. Like. There is a moment with those two. Where you're just like. Get the fuck out of here. Oh God. You know. I guess that's how that had to go down. Oh my God. You know. Like. I mean. But it.
[00:28:12] Like. These final five episodes. Like. The entire season is nuts. By itself. Like. Just by itself. The season is nuts. Okay. But you get to these last five episodes. And it's just like. Okay. This isn't one of those. We just have to accept it for what it is. Yes. Oh God. Like. Like. This became like the Fast and the Furious of karate shows. It was already. Yeah. Like.
[00:28:42] You know. This is why I'm having difficulty getting through this season I'm in. Like. I haven't finished it yet. Because it's like. It's literally the Fast and the Furious of this shit. Like. Come on. You just have to like. Swallow it. Like. Because if you're at this point. Like. It's short enough that you. Like. You should finish it. Yeah. Like. Just to. Just for the satisfaction. The character arcs of. Of La Russa. And Lawrence. Okay. Like. Their. Their character arcs are what.
[00:29:12] Kind of kept me in the show. Right. You know. The. The kids. Yeah. You know. They were okay in the beginning. Yeah. But. Then it got ridiculous. Right. I mean. It became so 90210. It was. You know. It is. But. I got through it. I. At one point. So you're saying this is the first half of the last season.
[00:29:42] No. Oh. The third. The sixth season is divided into three. Oh. Five episode parts. Oh. Netflix did that on purpose to drag this out as long as. Oh yeah. They have to. Yeah. I don't blame. They probably had some threats for cancellations. An increase. You know. So. So they. They. They did five episodes. Like these. These five episode shots. For the final season. And. Like it works.
[00:30:10] Like each five episode arc works. For what it is. Mm-hmm. It's just. There is a moment. Where. I. Literally just started laughing. Because it was like. You guys. Fucking kidding me. This is. This is. You can tell me. I don't give a shit. So. I don't know if you want to tell them. Well. Okay. I'll. Spoilers. Spoiler. So. You. You. They're entered in this. They go to this karate tournament. The. The. The. The. The. The. The.
[00:30:44] The. The. The. The. The Miyagi-Do. Okay. With. And it's. You know. They're led by. Uh. Daniel. Chosen. And. Um. Johnny. Johnny. Okay. Yeah. They're all working together. Right. I didn't realize Chosen was still in this. Yes. Chosen still in this. Still in this. Okay. He got weird. He continues to stay weird. So.
[00:31:13] Oh boy. So. The first five episodes of the sixth season is like them preparing to go to Barcelona for the. This tournament. Okay. The second five episodes are the tournament. Okay. Now. Here's where the spoiler alert comes in. So. You've got. First of all. You've got Miyagi-Do. Mm-hmm. And then John Kreese has gone back to Korea. Mm-hmm. Back to his original sensei. Mm-hmm.
[00:31:42] And now he is leading this group of Korean. Yeah. As a. Yeah. They're Cobra Kai. Right. They're Cobra Kai. Yeah. Okay. And then. Terry Silver bought his own dojo. Oh. So he shows up as well. Oh. At this. With the Iron Dragons. Iron Dragons. Yes. Okay. Okay. And then there's the Russian team, which is led by Britt Baker. D. Yeah. D. D. Yes. She's in this.
[00:32:13] Good. Oh. I'm just going to fast forward to these episodes. Yeah. So. At the end of the second. Wait. Did you say Russian? Is she talking Russian? She's trying to. Oh my God. It's got to be adorable. Oh. Oh. I can't wait to see her. It's something. Oh man. So at the end of the set. Like the second. Set of five episodes. A massive karate melee breaks out.
[00:32:43] Oh shit. Where it. What's a melee? It's a battle royale. Oh. To put it in wrestling terms. It is. Every person. Like. Everybody's fighting everybody. Outside of the tournament. Outside. Like. It's in the tournament. Like. Britt Baker. The Russians got. Kicked out for using steroids. Oh. So the Russians get pissed. They come in and they start fighting with everybody. So. All hell has broken loose.
[00:33:12] And Terry Silver's fighting. Um. John Kreese. You know. Everybody's Kung Fu fighting. Wow. But at the end of it. One of the. The. The kids from Cobra Kai. Ends up. Falling on a knife. And stabbing himself. And dying. Oh my god. And that's how it ends. Oh. No. So. Like. Once his face going over.
[00:33:43] It was in Miguel. Yeah. Yeah. So. The next three episodes. Terry Silver has convinced. Cobra Kai. And Miyagi-Do. Since they were the top three. To continue the tournament. Oh. Oh. And. So. In the meantime. The. The unexpected redemption. John.
[00:34:12] John Kreese. Takes place. You're like. And Johnny forgives him. Because. Kreese tells him like. I let you down. Because Johnny's like. I looked at. I looked up to you. All I wanted to do. Was win for you. You know. When I lost that tournament. In 1984. And you. Choked me out. In the parking lot. You destroyed my life. Because all I wanted to do. Was make you happy. And you know. Kreese is like. I'm sorry son. Johnny.
[00:34:41] How would he ever believe. Anything. That comes out of Kreese's. Right. Like he could say. He's sorry. He said he's sorry. How many fucking times. For that shit. So. Why does he believe in him now. So what ends up happening. Fuck Johnny. So what ends up happening is. Robbie. Is fighting the guy from Iron Dragon. To get into the finals. And he gives him a dragon screw. And breaks his leg.
[00:35:13] Leg. Robbie. No. Leg is broken. Yes. Now. No. I like Robbie. The La Russa girl. She says. There's no way I can make up the points. For us to win. In the total category. I don't want to face. The other girl. Can't remember her name. So. I'm just dropping out. Oh. You're talking about. The. The new girl. The blonde. Yeah. Yeah. Tori. Tori. Tori. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:35:43] So. So. If the. Cobra Kai will not. Name. A new person. Or replace the dead kid. Because he was going to the. The semifinals. If they don't even. Replace him. And this. This guy from the. Iron Dragons. Is the automatic. Champion. Well. The one that broke. Yeah. So. The next thing you know. It's announced that. Cobra Kai.
[00:36:12] Has not only named. A new champion. They have a new. Sensei. What. And it's Johnny. And it's Miguel. What. And they're like. The sensei from the Iron Dragons. How. The fuck is happening. Yeah. Right. Because that's what the guy. The sensei from the Iron Dragons. Is like. How the fuck is this possible. And Terry Silver. Is like. They're both former Cobra Kai. Like. Like. That's not even. Fucking explain it.
[00:36:42] Shut the fuck up. Silver. Yeah. They're both. Former Cobra Kai. Is it when you laughed? Because I was. Fucking hell. No. This is when I laugh. So. So. Tori beats the girl from Iron Dragons. Uh huh. And. Um. Miguel beats the guy from Iron Dragons. So. They're the individual champions. Uh. But. There's also a total score. But this is his boyfriend. Girlfriend. Ain't it? No. Miguel is with. Oh. Okay. Yeah.
[00:37:12] And Robbie's with Tori. Right. So now. There's also the total. The total championship. Like. What's. What dojo scored the most points. Oh. So of course. It is now a tie. Yeah. In points. Absolutely. So. If it wasn't. I wouldn't do that. So. This is where I laugh. The deciding factor. Is going to be. Sensei versus sensei. God. What? So. And by the way. I forgot to tell you.
[00:37:40] This is all taking place in the valley. Nuh. Oh. Yeah. They got it to be in the valley. Oh my. So. God. This just gets worse and worse. So. It's Johnny Lawrence. Versus. The Iron Dragon sensei. Who's a complete and total badass. In the same mat. He lost to Daniel LaRusso. On in 1984. So this is Johnny's chance for redemption. Yeah. So. That's where I laugh. Yeah. But then. The beginning of the next episode.
[00:38:08] Terry Silver's not leaving anything to chance. He's going to kidnap. Johnny's family. What? And. And. And Kreese shows up. He's on his yacht. Kreese shows up on the yacht. They fight. There's gasoline spilled. Oh my god. Kreese throws his cigar on the gasoline. And the yacht explodes. Oh my god. Oh my god. I thought the episode opens. I. What? Because. Like you know how like. They always do like a thing like.
[00:38:38] Like the episode opens. Or like something happens. And like. Yes. And like. They'll put the. Cobra Kai. Yeah. That's. The yacht exploding in the water. And they're like. Cobra Kai. Oh my god. So cheesy. Oh. It's so fucking good. It's so fucking good. I'm going to get there. I'm going. Tonight I'm watching this. I'll be up till four in the morning watching this shit. The level of cheese. That just.
[00:39:07] They just rung out of this. You know what? I just. I don't. I know the Fast and Furious went there. But they didn't. Never got that cheesy. And I mean. There's a training montage. They're. Oh god. Like. A la Waki. Where like. Johnny and Daniel. Are like jogging down the street. And people are joining them. Oh my god. And they're on the same beach. Rocky and Apollo. We're. Training at in California. For Rocky 3. Like. Oh. It's the best. Were they playing. No. They were.
[00:39:37] They were playing. You're the best. Of the original movie. Of the original movie. You're the best. Around. Yeah. I'm not going to ever keep you down. Oh yeah. It was amazing. Oh right. Oh. Oh my god. Oh my god. I was. This is amazing. I can't believe they fucking did this. So. What you're saying is there's still five more episodes to come. No. It's done. Oh that was. That was. Yeah. Oh yeah. That's right. You did say they ended it on a good note. Yeah. But I mean like.
[00:40:07] Don't tell me how it ends. I won't. But I mean. It was just. That's. That's. I'm glad you told me. Yeah. I mean. There's just so much cheese. Being wrung out of this. Yeah. You know. Yeah. It's going to be ooey gooey for sure. Yeah. Okay. Well I'm only on the season before and I'm like halfway through. So I'm not even that far. Yeah. Yeah. Because I saw Kreese gathering his army. And like a couple episodes later is when I drifted off. Yeah. So I'm not that far behind. Yeah. But that's.
[00:40:37] Fifteen episodes in the last season. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll be watching it and I'll be chuckling because. Like oh yeah I remember telling it. Yeah. It doesn't ruin it for me. No. So what else did you watch? That's it. Those are the three things I watched. Oh. Yeah. Hmm. Hmm. Now I know. You did not watch the Super Bowl halftime show. You didn't watch the Super Bowl at all. You were working.
[00:41:07] Well I mean I caught a glimpse of it as I passed by some of the big screens. But. Because you know they were playing on the big screen. Yeah. Well it was on every TV I think. Right. Except for that one that plays pool constantly. Yeah. I don't know why. But yeah. So anytime I was out and about. Mm-hmm. In either the pool hall or whatever. I would see it. But I would look for the score. Yeah. And then I'd walk right back. Well. I mean. First off. I was rooting for the Chiefs.
[00:41:37] Because I wanted to see history with the three-peat. Mm-hmm. Instead I saw historic ass beating. That. I mean. Wow. It was. It was an ass. You were like ass beating. It was an ass beating of epic proportions. I was catching the score. Yeah. And I was. And I'm like holy shit. Are these dudes ever going to score? Yeah. This is the fucking Super Bowl. Why are you like snoozing on the job? Yeah. They. They. They were doing nothing for a long time. Yeah. They got taken to the woodshed.
[00:42:06] I was like what did you guys choke? Oh. They did. They had to have. So. Anyway. The controversy of. The Super Bowl halftime show. I didn't see that at all. I would like to address it. I have things to say. What is the controversy? I don't. Well. I'm going to say this. I don't know what the controversy is. Because I didn't watch it. Oh. What did you watch?
[00:42:34] Because I know you said you weren't watching the kitten bowl. I didn't watch anything. I was talking to you. I was talking to you. I was posting the podcast. Oh yeah. That's right. I did. I was talking to you at halftime. The only thing that I noticed. About the halftime show. Because I just. Had me looking at the TV at that moment. Even before it took place. Like whenever. Whenever. You know. With. The. The Fox. NFL. Studio team. Mm-hmm. In the background.
[00:43:05] There was a Buick Grand National. Oh. Up on the stage. Oh. And I was like. Is that a Buick Grand National? What? That's not something you normally see at a halftime show. No. Not at all. And. You gotta say. Who wrote that in? And when the show started. Kendrick Lamar. Like I. I just happened to notice. I glanced over. I saw. He was standing on the hood of the. Of the Buick Grand National.
[00:43:34] And that offended me. But then I stopped watching. Because I didn't even. Yeah. I didn't even. Turned on. I muted. Because I was talking to you. Ah. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. I just didn't pay any attention. Correct. Yes. Now. That was my plan all along. Was to not watch the Super Bowl halftime show. And I think that's why I called you then. Because you said I don't care. Right. So let me explain something to people. When they announced that Kendrick Lamar was going to be the halftime entertainment for the Super Bowl. At that point.
[00:44:04] I made a conscientious decision. I'm not going to watch. Because I'm not going to like it. It's not my cup of tea. I'm not saying it's bad. I'm not saying anything about it. Except I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it. So I made a conscientious choice. Months ago. That I'm not going to watch the halftime show. Not for me.
[00:44:33] Many people don't make that same decision that I do. And many people I am disappointed in. Because you hate watched it. Oh. Oh. You hate watched it so you can then complain about it. And many of those people are of my generation. Yes. Let me explain something to my generation. They are no longer marketing to you. Yep.
[00:45:01] If you were born before 1990. That Super Bowl show was not for you. Nope. Okay. Let's just learn to live with that fact. Yep. They are no longer marketing to you and I. And get over it. And be on with your day. Like honestly. Like you. So many people are like. Well this was the worst Super Bowl show ever.
[00:45:30] Or the worst Super Bowl halftime show ever. And. To you. To you. And. I will be the first person to tell you. That they will never ever be a Super Bowl show. That will. Super Bowl halftime show that will surpass Prince. Don't get me started on that. Damn. I didn't even care for Prince. And that shit was fucking awesome. I mean. First off. It was raining. Raining. The man was in heels. Heels.
[00:45:58] And still tore the house down. Remember what the shape of the stand. Yeah. That stood with the cymbal. Yeah. It was all purple and linen. Oh it's beautiful. Nothing will ever surpass Prince. Yeah. In my opinion. I'm sure there are people out there who will tell you. Well boy are you fucking wrong. Yeah. Because what about Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson. You know. Well. I mean. We did see her boobie. But I ain't going to put that above Prince. No. Neither am I. I mean. There have been some good halftime shows.
[00:46:28] I think my boobie all the time. I don't get that excited folks. You too. Was phenomenal. Tom Petty was fantastic. He was so good. But Prince. To me. Is the. The pinnacle. Nothing will surpass that. I'm sure you'll tell me that. This Super Bowl shows for past Prince. I'm sorry. Refresh my memory again. What was the gentleman's name that did do the Super Bowl halftime? Kendrick Lamar. Okay. Because when I heard that my first thought was. Who is Kendrick Lamar? I'm sorry.
[00:46:58] I didn't even know who he was. I had to actually. In case I did want to step out and watch a little bit of it. I had to look it up and I was like. Well. Apparently this time last year or something. I don't know. Apparently he had a very public. Dis track feud with Drake. And apparently he won that. I'm sorry. Who? Drake. Who is another hip hop artist. And I'm not. Oh. He was wheelchair Johnny.
[00:47:28] And one of the. That Canadian show about high school kids. I care about it. No clue. Sorry. Yeah. You lost me. Yeah. I apologize that I don't know that. No, that's fine. But. You think I would. How much TV did you watch when you were in Canada? A lot. That's how I learned who Megan Fellows was. Okay. I did not. I would not have assumed that. I would have assumed you watched zero TV while you were in Canada. No, they had an antenna. Okay.
[00:47:56] It was shitty, blurry, fuzzy TV. Yeah. Anyway. Degrassi. Degrassi Junior High. That's what he was on. I've heard of that. What about that now? He was on that show. Who? Drake. Oh, I thought you were talking about the gentleman. No. Oh. Drake was on Degrassi Junior High. Yeah. And now he's a singer. Yes. Gotcha. I'm caught up. Go ahead. Right. So apparently they had a feud of some type.
[00:48:26] Oh, when aren't they feuding? Right. Them people are all he's feuding. I hate to say them people, but it's them people. But anyway, so I at least heard like, because I remember like on social media, that was all the rage. Like it was like Kendrick versus Drake. And I'm like, who the fuck are these people? Well, wow. I don't listen to radio like that. So I would have never heard that. It was on social media. People were talking about it on like Twitter and stuff like that. Awesome. And I'm just like, who the fuck are you?
[00:48:56] I've done that though. I've seen things. I'd be like, who are these people? I want to know why they're fighting about this. Yeah. Yeah. Like I care less why they're fighting, but it was like, like all the rage. It was like massive. Really? Yeah. Like it was like. Why didn't I hear this? Because you're on social media. No, not that much. Yeah. So. Wait, how long ago was this though? Last year. Oh, that wouldn't. Yeah. It wouldn't matter. But anyway, my point is this.
[00:49:23] Our time is done when it comes to being catered to for ad revenue. Like there, there are two different categories. Like the prime demo is 18 to 39 males. Like that who is a target demographic that every advertiser will tell you.
[00:49:48] If you've got 18 to 39 males, you've got people who have massive amounts of disposable income that will spend it willy nilly. Right. 18 to 49 is also considered a major demographic, but not as much as 18 to 39. And when you think about it, like I remember somebody said long, long time ago, you reach an age where SNL is no longer funny. I reached that years ago. You and me both.
[00:50:17] Except for Kate. Yeah. I mean. Sorry. There would be like things here and there like cross my path. Like come from Saturday Night Live. I'm like, oh, that's pretty fucking funny. Right. But like the show overall is no longer that funny to me. I will not sit and watch it. No. What? But at the same time, like it's like it's because they're no longer aiming for you. Right. Like that funny is not funny to me anymore. Right. You are no longer the target demographic.
[00:50:46] And it's the same thing with like ads. But in this case, we're talking about how is the Super Bowl putting more eyes on the halftime show? Well, it's aiming at a younger demographic. Correct. You know, this Super Bowl show was not meant for you. It was not meant for me. It was meant for people, you know, in that 18 to 39 demographic. Yeah. You know what I mean? And that's who they're aimed for and that's what they got. Right.
[00:51:15] You know, and I'm at a point now where I understand I am no longer the target audience. Exactly. Yep. You know, so I'm not complaining any longer. About these halftime shows. Because it's not for me. No, I you know what I do if I don't like it. I turn it off or change the channel. And that's my point. It's just as easy as that.
[00:51:43] Now you don't have to watch what you don't want to see. You know what I mean? But that's my problem. It's like you watch a 15 minute halftime show. That you knew you weren't going to like. Yeah. And just to go on. And then you complained about it. Yeah. And I don't understand. To the whole fucking world. Right. And I don't understand why you would do that to yourself. Like, it makes no sense to me. Yep. Like, I haven't. Like, I don't want to see. Like, I haven't watched a halftime show in a while.
[00:52:12] Because none of. I watched the one with Dr. Dre and Snoop. I watched that one. That was in Los Angeles. It was like Dr. Dre. I can't remember that. Because we were into Snoop. Yeah. Missy Elliott, I think, was in that. Like, yeah. It was like a whole, like. Eminem, I think, was part of it. The one where it was the different rooms they were going. Yeah. And sometimes you could see them. And sometimes you couldn't. And it, like, made me mad.
[00:52:40] Because when it got to Eminem, I was like, why can't I see him? I want to see him. Yeah. So it was like this odd. But I watched that one. I was like, okay, that's kind of still a little bit in my wheelhouse. What was it? That one. The Snoop, Dre. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. I wanted to see Eminem in direct. Yeah. Yeah. In Snoop. But, like, you know, before that, like, I couldn't name another one. No. That I've watched. Exactly. That I had a desire to watch. Yeah. You know what I mean?
[00:53:10] Like. Like, and I'm sure there's somebody out there that's like, well, you're racist. You didn't watch it. You don't like it. You must be racist. Well, no. Let me tell you why. One, I also don't like country music. The whitest music of all. The whitest music of all. Yeah. Is that what it's dubbed these days? That's what I dub it. Like, that's like, you know. The whitest music of all.
[00:53:38] But two, like, I can tell you when the Who played halftime. Oh, my God. Oh, that was horrible. It was. It wasn't. It wasn't because the Who is horrible. It's because they were old and shouldn't have been there. They just shouldn't have been there. And that's probably when they. That's probably the last one that was like, Sean, you're our target demographic. Yeah. Probably. Probably. After that, it was like.
[00:54:07] It was hard to watch Roger Dolce. It was. It like. Because, you know, I fucking love the Who. Yeah. I was like, oh, my God. So. Stop singing. So, I can tell you, one, the Who was awful. But two, if it was a country act, I wouldn't watch. You know what, though? I didn't go online and bitch about the Who being awful. No, neither did I. Yeah. I just took it as. Actually, not. I didn't want to say they were awful. It just wasn't good. I want to say maybe I did.
[00:54:35] I think I may have actually tweeted that, boy, they sound bad. Other than that, though, you didn't complain and bitch moan and groan for an hour and hours. No. But I mean, like. These people have, like, paragraphs written about this shit. Right. You know, like, novels. Right. It's just. It's a. All you have to do is change the channel. Right. Just change the channel. Mute it. Turn it off. Walk away. Go get a snack at that time. It was halftime. Yeah. It was halftime. Yeah. You know. Yeah. So, I mean, it's like. It's that thing of like. But, like. It's also like.
[00:55:07] People don't want to feel left out. Like, I feel like people watch shit sometimes because it's like. Well, everybody else is. So should I. Like the grandies. Yes. Yes. Oh. Or the Oscars. Like. I don't really watch that stuff. Neither do I. Yeah. Like, my feed will be filled with like. I can't believe this happened. Or. I can't believe they got snubbed. Or like, you know. Yeah. You know. Oh. This was a wrong decision.
[00:55:36] There's always all that shit. You know. But. I can't really. See. I can't. It's hard to preach to people like that. Not preach. But. Give your opinion like that. Because. There was a period in my life where I was like that. I remember sitting and watching the grandies. Because I didn't want to miss it. Because I knew everybody's going to be talking about it. But fuck. I hated it. I was like. Oh my god. And I remember watching some music one time. And somebody was saying something about Lady Gaga. I said. What the fuck is a Lady Gaga?
[00:56:06] You know what I mean? Yeah. And I was like. I didn't even know who she was yet. Right. That's how long ago this was. Right. You know. I was obsessed with shit like that. So it's hard for me to be like. Stop doing that. When I was fucking doing it. I just didn't have as many outlets as they have now. Right. Back then. You know what I mean? To voice my opinion. Right. But. Like. There was a time in your life where you were doing that. Like. I was shocked to learn that they still have the MTV Movie Awards.
[00:56:36] And the MTV Video Awards. I know. I know. But we can't. I have learned that I cannot. Because I work with a lot of young people. Right. And it drives me insane sometimes. But I have to like check myself. When I'm like in that mode. Because I'm like. They don't know. And I was like that back then. I can't. Do it to them. You know what I mean? I can't. I wasn't. I guess. That's my problem. I wasn't. Like. I wasn't the guy who was like. Oh. It's the MTV Awards. I was. I was not.
[00:57:05] Oh my god. I couldn't wait to see what the hell they came up with next. Yeah. And sometimes. Before it got all one-sided. Sometimes there was some really good people that came on those shows and played. You know what I mean? Right. Like they had good. Now it's just bullshit. Right. I mean. The whole show is bullshit now. There is not one good shining moment in that show anymore. Oh my god. There she is. There she is. There she is. There little girl. I'm sorry. Yeah. But like. Like.
[00:57:35] I do think like that's what people have. Is like. Like. Well we're going to all have this shared moment. And then I'm going to comment on it. Right. And I. And. Like. I'm at the point. Where it's like. I just don't fucking care. That's what I said to somebody the other day. I was like. You know. I don't get into that drama and shiz. Because I don't care. Because. I don't care about your opinion. Just as much as you don't give a shit about mine. Right. So I. Just.
[00:58:05] Shut up. But it's just like. The reason I'm saying it is. Well if you don't care. Why are you talking about it? Well because. One. It's good podcast content. But two. I think. I think this is most important. My feed gets flooded with it. Yeah. You know like. When you say feed. Are you talking about Twitter. Or Facebook. Or. Both. Instagram. Or whatever you. I'm only on Facebook and Twitter. Okay. Okay. And. Can you get off my iPad. You know Darby does that.
[00:58:34] Why do they put a stand on my iPad? I don't know. Okay. But. Like my. My point is like. Snip that. Go ahead. My. My Twitter feed. And my. Like all my social media. That I follow. Was essentially. It was either. This was amazing. Or this sucked. Wow. And. If you thought it was amazing. And then you. And. Somebody else thought it sucked. You don't get it. Right.
[00:59:03] And you're right. Yeah. Yeah. I don't. Right. I have no fucking clue. No idea. But I didn't watch. I can't complain. Yep. Great. Like. My complaint is. About the people who were complaining. Yeah. Right. Because you knew you weren't going to like it from the junk. I don't. I don't want to say everybody. Because I do know some people that were like. Man. I was really looking forward to it. And I was just so disappointed. But then I had some people who were like. Man. That was a great halftime show. So. It's just your perfect. Personal preference.
[00:59:33] I am sure. I feel confident in saying. Ninety five percent of the people who were complaining about this. Already knew they weren't going to like it. Right. That's like. Yes. That's a big percentage. Right. There is a small percentage of people who are probably like. Man. I was really looking forward to this. And man. He really didn't deliver the show. I thought he would. Like. Or whatever. Like. I don't know. But like. I feel like. Ninety five percent of the people who were complaining about it. Already knew they weren't going to like it. So why the fuck did you watch?
[01:00:03] Yeah. It's like paying good money. To go see a movie. You know you're going to fucking hate. Right. Right. But. That's the problem. It's just. It's everybody's opinion. But. I understand. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have an opinion. But I'm just saying like. If your opinions aren't made up. There's a difference between an opinion and a complaint. Right. Big difference. But if your opinions already made. Yes. Like if I'm not. I would not have gone into watching that with an open mind.
[01:00:32] Because I don't like that style of music. Right. I'm just not into it. I can never say that I watched something like that. If I didn't want to eat. Like a halftime show. If I heard it with somebody else. I was like. I don't want to. I just wouldn't watch it. Right. I don't want to say that. I. I meant like the Grammys and the MTV. I wanted to watch it. Because I wanted to know what everybody else was seeing. And when they were talking about at work. I wanted to be included in it. Yeah. See. I could give a fuck less. But that. But here's the problem. This is my problem.
[01:01:02] I got to an age where I don't either. I don't watch any of that bullshit. Right. And you know that. But I can't preach to them to not. Because I was at one point in my life. I understand that. And that's like where the thing is. Is like. In my house. We. Like we didn't watch that stuff. Like. I do remember like. It would be like a Saturday. You're like. Oh the MTV Movie Awards are on. Oh my parents didn't watch that shit. We were forbidden. We had sneak and watch that stuff. But like.
[01:01:33] But like. Award shows as a whole. I would say. Yeah. Like. My dad told me early on. Like you know. Those shows aren't for the move. Like. Like. Why don't we watch the Academy Awards? Because the movies we like. We aren't going to get. Acknowledged. Most times. That's why I stopped watching. Right. And it was like. He was right. And like. But I still care. Like when it came up for like. You know. I've moaned this before. The Dark Knight. Yes. Like you know. I knew you were going to say that. It should have.
[01:02:02] It should have been nominated. It should have won. I've said it before. I'll say it again. If it was. A rogue FBI agent. Working that. The case of the Joker. That would have won. Yes. But because it was a Batman movie. They're like. Oh. We. We. We can't do that. That's a Batman movie. But I mean. You know. He fledged everybody's due. So I'm okay with that. Right. But I mean like. But it is like. It's that thing of just like. Like. I wouldn't watch the MTV Music Awards. Or video awards.
[01:02:32] Live. I'd always catch like. A replay. Right. Like a couple of days later. Yeah. Like you know. It was like. Oh okay. Let me see what everybody's talking about. Okay. That's interesting. Yeah. They get the highlights. Right. Like a lot of the times. Like they were. There was shit that was going on in those shows. That like. I could give two shits about. Right. But then there was like. And here's Guns N' Roses. And you're just like. Oh shit. They're back. You know. I remember. I watched the one year. It was.
[01:03:04] Nine Inch Nails was finally releasing their follow up. Follow up to The Downward Spiral. Oh. And it was like. And Trent Reznor's premiering his new song on the MTV Video Awards. I remember that one. Yeah. And I watched it. I was like. All ready for it. And that song sucked. It sucked. I was like. Yeah. Okay. I was hoping it was the same one. Because I'm like. Did he do two? No. I remember that. Yeah. I was so. I was so disappointed.
[01:03:33] Because it was like four years. Yeah. It was like. It was like four years between. Between Downward Spiral and the next album. Yes. And. Like. Rolling Stone Magazine. Which I was at the time still reading. They did this whole thing about. Can Trent Reznor save rock and roll? And. I'm like. I. I ate that article up. I'm like. Here we go. Trent. Save rock and roll. And then the answer was like.
[01:04:03] No. No. He can't. He can't. He has no idea what rock and roll is. Yeah. So. But he does. He does. Right. But like. It was just that. That funny. Like. It was. That was like one of those moments where I was like. Ugh. I watched it for this. Yeah. You used to do that. Like. You'd be like. Well. Record a Grammy Street. Because 30 seconds of Mars is supposed to appear. Yes. Oh my. And then you'd like. You'd like. Ugh. I watched it for this. Yes. Yeah. All the time.
[01:04:31] That's when I started to like. Drift away from that stuff. Yeah. Watching it all. It's the same thing. With. Morning. Afternoon. Evening. I don't give a shit. What time of day. Talk show shit. Yeah. I would get so excited. Because it would have somebody I liked on it. And then it would be like. Hey. You're in this movie. Yeah. And how was it working from with so and so. Oh. They're great. But. Here's a clip. Bye. And I'd be like. Oh. Fuck this shit. And the best part was. Like on our DVR. You would have it set up by certain actors. I did. I did. So like.
[01:05:02] If Sebastian Stan had a movie coming out. Yes. Like all of a sudden. Like the DVR would be flooded with like. An episode of like. The Drew Barrymore show. And Wendy Williams. Jimmy Fallon. Like all. All of that shit. The today show. Yes. All because Sebastian Stan has a new movie coming out. Yeah. And it may not even be like. In person appearance. It could just be like a video or something. But if. But if he was on the description of the. Of that talk show. It was.
[01:05:31] It was being recorded by our DVR. How long did they fucking sit on there. Where I didn't even watch. I just deleted the shit. Never even pulled one up in one. Watch this shit. Like I'll get around to it. I'll get around to it. Yeah. And it was just. Six months later after the movie came out. Like you gonna watch this shit. Nah. I had to leave it. I didn't want to watch it. Yeah. Yeah. But. So that's my message to people out there. The few. That listen to this show.
[01:06:03] If you know you're not going to like it. Don't torture yourself. It's not worth it. No. No. You can absolutely make yourself happy doing something else. Yes. So next year. And. I got it. Next year the Super Bowl is in San Francisco. What? Yes. This is San Francisco. Oh. I always wanted to see Alcatraz.
[01:06:32] Or even just the bridge. The bridge would blow my mind. But. You know the thinking is. Well if it's in San Francisco. It's gonna be Metallica. Oh god. It's gotta be Metallica. Oh no. Like. And. There's a part of me that's like. That would be kind of cool. Mm-hmm. Like. If. Well. Like. If you could get like. A five song. Banger out of them.
[01:07:02] Like. At this age. See. They're not. They're not the Metallica I saw. Right. I know. But. And I don't want to. Replace that with now. Like. You. You. They come out. And they start with like. Master of Puppets. Mm. You know. Maybe they throw in some Seek and Destroy. Oh god. Sandman. That's all the greats. Yeah. That's all the greats. You do a five song. Banger set. Like that. No new shit. No new shit. No new shit. Nothing.
[01:07:31] Nothing after 1991. Yeah. Nothing after 1991. Yeah. So the black album. Yeah. Prior. That's it. Yeah. I would watch that. Like. I would give Lars his due and watch it. I would. I would enjoy that. Yeah. I would actually enjoy it if it sounded good. And I know they still sound good. So I'm not even taking that away from them. Because. I had somebody that went to one of their shows. They were like. They actually really sound good. I mean. I know. Ian is a very. James Hetfield.
[01:08:00] Still sounds good. They said. And Ian has a very biased opinion. Because. I mean. I know. He's insane. But he still. Like. He says. Like. I mean. They still sound really good. Yeah. So I would watch that if it was the stuff that made me fall in love with Metallica. Yeah. Not the shit that made me fall out of love with them. The shit I saw when I saw them live. Yeah. Like if you throw some sanitarium in there. Oh my god. If they would play sanitarium live. I would definitely watch it. But.
[01:08:27] Would you be allowed to play those kind of music songs at a Super Bowl. Because it's supposed to be fun and happy. And you know. I don't know. Holy pops and rainbows. Blah. Because that's a dark. That's dark. That is a dark set of songs. That is. Like. You have an inner sanitarium in there. And sanitarium. That's fucking dark. Yeah. It is. You know what I mean? Would they allow that?
[01:08:56] Would it be one of those SNL moments where they're told not to play this song. And they go out and they play that song. Well. That would be amazing. But. They start off with. Children at these things. You know. No. You'd have to start off with. Maybe for who the bell tolls. With the bell. Oh. In the beginning of that. Yeah.
[01:09:26] Yeah. Could you imagine that song going through the arena. Yeah. Where they're playing the Super Bowl. You slow it down for a minute. Yeah. And we'll fade to black. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They're not going to allow that. This is like. The. Our dream to see. Yeah. Catering to us. Yeah. And it's a little half. Yeah. All the people that. Did. This shit. This year. They're. They're listening this going. These two old motherfuckers. But like. Could you like. And like.
[01:09:56] What makes it even better is like. So you like. Do like. For whom the bell tolls. You start with that bell. Yes. And then like. You go. The Undertaker rise. In the middle of the stage. The Undertaker. Yeah. Mark Calloway. Don't. The hat and jacket. One more time. Lightning. Coming down. From the stadium. For whom the bell tolls. Wait. Wait.
[01:10:25] Is he wearing the hat? Oh. Yeah. The big. The big. The big. The big hat. Yeah. He's got the big hat on. Rolls the eyes backwards. As the lightning is coming down. And you know. Time marches on. and at that point they cut the feeds and all the lights at the Super Bowl shut off that is one dark Super Bowl but it would be amazing oh my god
[01:10:55] it would be so amazing San Francisco do you know how many views did we get from that oh people around the world in our age be watching that shit if you really want to lighten it up a little bit they play whiskey in the jar you'll have to refresh my memory I really don't listen to Metallica anymore old stuff but nothing past the Black Elm that was
[01:11:25] pardon me I got the hiccups I'm sorry maybe on their essentials there's a lot of new stuff on this I don't agree with that they have new stuff? yeah they do from like new? and every time they release something new Ian tries to play for me like
[01:11:55] yeah they still sound good don't they I'm like yeah still sounds the same no no yeah there's a point where bands just need to fucking give up here it is learn from the who people
[01:12:33] what do you hear this? this might have been I think 92 because they did Garage Days re-revisited yeah I remember that yeah this was this and they when they did that cover of Turn the Page yes that I remember I don't remember this this is just great so let's you gotta get to the chorus because the chorus always cracks me up okay
[01:13:05] this is actually a really good version of this song I really do like this but it's so Hetfield there's a moment where it's like oh that's Hetfield right hold on what it's coming
[01:13:48] here it comes whiskey yeah that's it does it's so Hetfield there's whiskey in the char there was a little in the back in it there was a little he stuck a little one in during the verse yes he does that shit but it reminds me of that character I don't it's a character that talks like that
[01:14:18] it reminds here's what it reminds me of and you're gonna laugh it reminds me of Triple H what The Rock did this thing okay that wasn't who I was thinking of it's The Rock and Triple H and Triple H used to do like he'd come into the ring and he'd be like tonight ah right you're gonna see ah the cerebral assassin ah there's a character somewhere that talks like that I'm sure there is yeah but like The Rock came down and he's like
[01:14:47] why do you always sound constipated when you talk ah ah tonight in this very ring ah the cerebral assassin the great one ah that's hysterical yes that is exactly yeah how James had it nothing against them dudes like fantastic their version of turn the page when he's just like turn the page
[01:15:26] is that right that's I agree with all of the above it's a great version even my dad's like I'm a Metallica version of turn the page like I don't usually like covers but Metallica they did that pretty good yeah Metallica's a great band yeah I'm not saying they're not right there was a time they were a great band yes at some point you gotta stop right but like I would like to see them play the Super Bowl like what they need to do is like they need to do that fade into
[01:15:55] where they're helping other bands rise and produce and do shit like that you know what I mean that's not in Lars DNA I wasn't talking about Lars shit what Lars does no that's man is talented I will not take away from Lars talent at all he's just a scumbag human being yeah sorry I'm sorry anything I have ever read seen or heard about Lars he's a total scumbag I'm talking about James Hetfield he has a lot to give
[01:16:24] he should be out there doing that shit quit making your own shit and help people make theirs pass on your knowledge we've heard enough of it but you but like and like how you do that though is like so you like you do Metallica at the Super Bowl and then like you bring out young talent like young rock stars
[01:16:54] to like do that you know you bring out some young they they they come out and they instead of it being James doing the vocals it's or they do it as a duet for Seek and Destroy you know what I mean like or you know something like like that's what you do like I remember Oro Smith did it like I mean their choices I could
[01:17:24] you know it was Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wait are you talking about like doing something like when 30 Seconds More is hit here they had to replace Tomo so they did a contest and whoever won that no I've been for Tomo no I'm sure that again I will admit my problem is I don't know like who the young faces of rock and roll are anymore no I'm talking rock and roll right
[01:17:53] or metal right of some type meaning like so I like my first thought is well like you you bring in like you know what's his name from the drummer from Metallica not Metallica Nirvana I can't think of his name Dave Grohl Dave Grohl like yeah you bring like Dave Grohl to do something like Dave Grohl is like 55 have you ever seen what Dave Grohl does yeah that is one
[01:18:23] great human he is he is fantastic I will never talk bad about that man we disagree on some things we agree on some other things I got nothing bad to say about Dave Grohl me neither but um but like Dave Grohl is like 55 like you know he needs to help you know but like no but I'm sure he would be awesome to have there right but like there has to be like young young talent doing like doing that style of music
[01:18:53] like the name he's coming to mind is like there's a young woman named Lizzie Hale who does metal okay phenomenal whole voice okay you know like I don't know if she's big enough that you could bring her on stage right but but again here's the thing Metallica's aimed at me not at a 25 year old but this also sounds like the NXS show that we watched to get a new lead singer
[01:19:22] to replace Michael you're not doing a new lead singer but you're talking about like passing the torch yeah is one of the things you're talking about well the way you do that is you have a Super Bowl show with Metallica okay and you have them like have young talent on stage with them at the Super Bowl introducing them to the world gotcha so that their music takes up I understand what you're saying now okay I was getting lost here because you're describing this oh okay not at the Super Bowl yeah it's the Super Bowl like Aerosmith did that
[01:19:51] but it was Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears like they had them on stage with them at the Super Bowl yeah that's no you can't pass the torch to them not from Aerosmith not from Aerosmith no but but that's my point like they tried to do that with like you know here's us we're old we're gonna do our we're gonna do five you know 20 minutes of our hits but oh look we got these cool hip kids who are gonna sing our songs with us you know and at the end let them do a little bit on their own like I know Metallica has done and you're
[01:20:21] gonna laugh but it actually sounded really fucking good um with Molly Cyrus I was gonna say I can't see Lars Ulrich being like here you go kid take my drum set over you be Lars Ulrich that's the only one I can see given a hard time and I'm sorry I can't I can't even speak about that I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that she did sound good no like I'm not a fan but I can't deny one she has a great voice
[01:20:51] no it's not that girl's talented as all hell the problem is every time I hear her name I get Wrecking Ball stuck in my head okay because it's such a great fucking song I get that stuck in my head and I don't want to listen to it right I don't want to listen to it anymore but every time that name comes up but she she did a thing with Metallica where I think she didn't understand me I can't remember what it was really yeah she's not really good like she's one of those few that I look at and I think wow she has a deep respect
[01:21:20] for like the past yeah yeah again I mean like I think her father probably has a lot of influence on that too possibly but I do like I feel like like she's one of those few it's like the history of rock and roll at least to a certain extent means something to her right right yeah she can appreciate it right because of who she or what she does there's always that joke of like
[01:21:50] women or or young people like wearing like a Metallica t-shirt and an old head like me like being like name three songs oh my god don't don't even say that oh my god somebody I work with a 16 year old yeah she came in with what was the fucking band I'm trying to think of the band I can't think of it I wanted to say that to her name three songs
[01:22:20] these people sang please like yeah and like I was like almost offended she was wearing a shirt from shit that she wasn't even born when that shit was made you know what I mean but I was like you know what I was like that's great parenting right there if she does know three songs and I don't even want to know I'm like kudos to her parents yeah you know walking off a Depeche violated t-shirt god it was it's killing me that I can't remember because she comes in with a lot but that day I was like
[01:22:50] come on and I was like nope I bet her parents are good parents it's a deep cut where you're like get the fuck out and I know her parents so I'm thinking they may have taught her that yeah god I don't think of the band but whatever but yes I'm right there with you yeah so when you said that I was like oh my god I just did that yeah like you always hear like I don't like I because there's a possibility I mean I know like for me my dad always said he liked
[01:23:20] this about about me like I always want to know what influenced what I liked yes so it was like okay Led Zeppelin's influenced by this so I'm gonna go back and listen to this or the Rolling Stones were influenced by this I'm gonna go back and listen to this I bet you never was taken back to Bach and Beethoven like I was no I was but I mean I I appreciated Bach because my dad was like you know where music started this is where you gonna listen right okay dad like
[01:23:49] poison was influenced by the New York dolls so I listened to the New York dolls I liked I like looking at people when I read about them and they say what influences them I like the guy who did Johnny be
[01:24:19] good oh you're talking like back yeah um like I read his biography I went back and listed like his catalog like I remember there was a movie it was a documentary about like his like 50th anniversary or something and it was um he hired uh Keith Richards like put it together yeah and like throughout the documentary they almost like fight
[01:24:49] each other like three times wow him and Keith Richards yeah and you don't say at the end of it at the end of it they're like so Keith are you happy it's over he's like I gave the man what he wanted that's so Keith Richards it is like but like um Jerry Lee Lewis I love Jerry Lee Lewis the killer oh is that Johnny B. Good well no no um no that was the piano guy yeah yeah the one
[01:25:19] that married his cousin yeah but like um rage cousin from what I understand yes we're proud to you man Chuck Berry is the guy I'm thinking of Chuck Berry I couldn't think of his name but yeah like was he one of the ones that went down in the plane no no that was the big bopper no Richie Valence the big bopper Richie
[01:25:49] Valence and um Buddy Holly Buddy Holly why do I always forget about that I don't know didn't they say that's the day the rock and roll died that's the day the music died yeah somebody resurrected that shit well I mean that's like the song is about that but like there's also like that theory out there that like if Buddy Holly had not died in that playing or any of them well just Buddy Holly if Buddy Holly like the other two
[01:26:18] I mean and Richie Valence is certainly on his way to greatness the big bopper would probably have been a sideshow act but I agree with that but if Buddy Holly had not died then Beatles would never have existed because what he was doing with music at that point would have taken him past the Beatles like he was starting to experiment with music in a way like what rock and roll was I want to live in that world but yeah like
[01:26:48] I've heard people say that like see the Beatles I'm sorry there are people who were like if Buddy Holly had never died like the direction of rock and roll would have changed dramatically and like the Beatles and the Stones would have never existed somebody needs to make that alternate world and let me see how that progresses because I would love to see where could that possibly mean country would never exist you know what I mean but country was the rock the genesis of rock and roll
[01:27:18] like I'm just saying you know country music and rhythm and blues that's where rock and roll origins are right I'm not I'm just saying you don't know what yeah could have could have I mean a lot of people that and weird accidents like that for music and that right I mean but like is that weird well but but he his is like I don't want to say the most significant
[01:27:48] because I don't want to downplay anybody else's importance but they they just say like the way he was looking at music he could have been the biggest influence right and influencer right it would have changed how rock and roll went and that's like that's something that's always been like a fascination to me of like you know but anyway like like Chuck Barry and
[01:28:18] particularly Jerry Lee Lewis I loved listening to Jerry Lee because that was just like holy shit he was quick yeah I mean and like you know he'd start off and then he'd stand up and shoot that stool away from him and it just be like dancing yeah and like holy fuck and it sounded good killer yeah bit of a dickhead
[01:28:48] yeah yeah I'm sure I mean yeah I don't know though personally right I just know what I read and see here let's wrap this up anything to add to the proceedings no I remember there are a number of different ways you can reach out and touch us you can send us an email that email address is pittsburghnerd at yahoo.com you can also find us on facebook and twitter just search pittsburgh nerd we're very very easy to find we are on a number of podcasting
