[00:00:23] And welcome to episode 622 of the Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast. I'm Sean. I'm Ian and this is the only podcast that says... Well, now it's really fucking hot. It's a broiler. It's amazing. It's a fucking steamer. In like a three week time... I went from in three weeks having my furnace on to like...
[00:00:51] Holy fuck, it is broiling hot. Yeah. And in the middle... We almost all died in a flood. Yeah. You know? Insanity. It was. It really... Like... I don't want... This is no exaggeration. Pittsburgh weather this year. Memorial Day weekend... I was still wearing like my cutoff hoodie... And the furnace was running.
[00:01:21] Yep. And then we had like two straight weeks of rain. Right. Like just... Straight. Like never stopped. Never. There was flash flooding. I mean... It was amazing. Like just... Like... I mean I know the joke is like... You know when you had the Pittsburgh Arts Festival... It's automatically just gonna rain. Yeah. Like and that's been a... You know because... June is really the rainy month.
[00:01:51] Like it's not April or May. It's June where we get all of our rain. Right. But I mean like this was like... Beyond the pale. Like the normal... Rain we get in this area. It was... Crazy. Right. And then... All of a sudden... Like and... And the top are all off. It was muggy as fuck too. Yeah. And like... I'm talking like... Thunderstorms and tornadoes. And like fucking torrential downpours. Right.
[00:02:21] And then... And all of a sudden the humidity swept in. Yeah. The humidity... Like it was like 70 degrees outside but with 100% humidity. Which was like... It was like the south. Yeah. It was horrible. So like... Like I'm sitting there and I'm like... I'm running my air conditioner. I'm like fuck. It's only like 73 degrees outside. Yeah. Like I turned it off with the fan and I'm like... Why is like everything sticking to me now? You know? Like I had to turn the air conditioner back on. Right. You know? So... That's like how the...
[00:02:51] And now today... Like yesterday was like nice. It was like 75. It was sunny. And today... It was like it just kicked into overdrive with like... 87 degrees and... You know? Humidity and... I know it's going to be even worse for the next three days. Yeah. It's supposed to get to the 90s this week coming up. I'm like holy shit. The girl feels like 103. Yeah. No thank you. Yeah. It's awful.
[00:03:21] Yeah. And that's horrible. But it's like the most bizarre three weeks I've ever experienced. Like going from like that wet... Like it was honestly like... The low was like in the like... The low 40s. Right. At the end of May. Yeah. Which is unheard of. Yeah. It's all kinds of weird weather here. Yeah. Like it... My furnace was like kicking on still. I'm like why is my furnace on? It's like the end of May.
[00:03:50] I'm looking like it's like 40 degrees outside. Yeah. Like what the hell? You know? And then... Like... The transition was like two weeks of rain. You know? Here comes the flood. Yeah. You know? Hope you had an ark built. Right. And now... It's like you know... And here's summer. Yeah. The fuck? Yeah. It's crazy. It is. It's nuts.
[00:04:21] How are you? Oh, I'm good. We'll wait for a second. Yeah. I was thinking... Ellie's going to Europe. Really? Yeah. I didn't know if you knew that. I did not. No. Yeah. Is this like a... Foreign exchange thing? No. It's sort of like a... Like a nine day school thing. Okay. I guess. Yeah. So she's going July 20th.
[00:04:51] And so... She needs some stuff. You know? Yeah. Like she needs chargers. Yeah. And chargers. Yeah. Yeah. Convertible. Yeah. Converters or whatever. Yeah. Her phone's okay because I have... You know? International. Yeah. All that stuff. That's fine. But we have... But she needs some clothes. You know?
[00:05:21] Yeah. She needs a pair of kicks. Yeah. Because... I mean, she had Converse. And she has these really good Tevis. That are hiking Tevis actually. But that's not going to carry her through. I mean, she's going to be going everywhere. Yeah. So I went out today. We went out to the outlets today. I bought her a pair of Nikes. Air Max. Yeah. So she'd have to have... So she would have some comfortable on her feet. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah.
[00:05:50] And so... Anyway, there's just stuff she needs for the trip. So... Yeah. That's what I was doing today. Getting all that shit together. For her. You're a Nike guy. I used to be. Okay. I used to be. That's all I used to wear. Yeah. Until I was about... 23 or 24.
[00:06:22] Okay. And then from cooking, even for those four years, my feet spread. Yeah. And... I got too wide for Nikes because they make wide... Nikes are usually made smaller. They are. Yeah. They're narrow. And... Yeah. So I was excited that we went into... Originally, we were going to get a new balance, but I couldn't find any really good deals on them. Yeah. And then we were by the outlets, and there was a couple things we needed there anyway, so I went to the outlets, Nike outlet. Yeah.
[00:06:51] And I got her a nice pair for like 70 bucks. Yeah. They're nice. They're Air Maxes. They have plenty of cushion. And so... But... And she wears a nine and a half, 10. Yeah. But, you know, we found her shoes, and that was cool. Talking to the guy, I was like, yeah, I don't even look around. I don't. Usually when I go into stores, I don't even look around. Yeah. It's not worth it to me. Yeah. Because they never have my size.
[00:07:21] Yeah. Ever. And, like, Shoe Carnival and all those different types of places. Yeah. They go up to 13 and they stop. Yeah. And... They had a bunch of 15s and different... Frickin' shoes up there for me. I'm like, get the fuck out of here. Yeah. I'm gonna try a 15 and a half on or something like that. And they fit. Nice Air Maxes. I haven't had a pair of Air Maxes in 20-some years.
[00:07:51] Maybe more. Yeah. Because I had the first pair of Air Maxes that came out. Right. I love them. But I'm hard on shoes. I mean, I beat them. And... Right. But... Price was good. He also... I signed up for Nike and I got another 15% off both sets of shoes. Yeah. So I dropped it even lower. I'm like, I'm in. Yeah. You know? So, yeah.
[00:08:21] I got... I actually bought a pair of shoes. I never buy... I never buy myself shoes. Hardly ever. Yeah. I mean, I do when I need them, but it's... It takes a lot for me to buy something. You know what I mean? Yeah. But I knew I needed a pair. Yeah. I'm usually the same way, but I just bought myself a new pair of shoes this week. Yeah. I got myself a pair of... Another pair of Skechers slip-ons. Yeah. But the... Like, unlike my other... My last pair, which... They're still fine.
[00:08:49] They need new insoles because my cat dug into them. Yeah. But otherwise, they're still fine. It's just... I mean, they look like old man shoes. Yeah, I get it. You know? I mean, they were. I like them, but like, looking at them, I was like... One day, I'm like looking at my... They sit and I look at my feet. I'm like, what the fuck am I wearing? Yeah. I... Like, what made me buy these? Some ones are popular, though. They are. They're popular. But these...
[00:09:17] The thing I like about these is they don't... I mean, you're going to look at it and say, well, it still looks like an old man shoe, dumbass. Yeah. But... Get this off. It has like the faux laces in the front. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It looks like a regular walking shoe, but it's a slip-on. Yeah. Where like those other pair, I mean, they look like loafers. Yeah, yeah. You know? I was like... So...
[00:09:47] A little bit better. Yeah. Yeah. So like I'm... I don't feel as much of an old man as, you know, still buying a sketch or slip-ons. But the reason I asked, like, you were a Nike man. Yeah. I watched a documentary this week. It was a docu-series. And it was about... It was on Netflix.
[00:10:12] It was about Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson bringing back Reebok. Yeah. Because like in 2007, Adidas bought Reebok. Right. And buried the brand. Yeah. Like... Adidas was the number two basketball shoe. Yeah. You know? And... They got bought by Adidas and Adidas wanted to compete in that space. So they buried Reebok. Right. And...
[00:10:44] And... Apparently... A year or two ago, Reebok went out for sale. Mm-hmm. And Shaq... He's like the number two investor. Mm-hmm. There's another guy. I can't remember his name. But like... They basically bought Reebok. Okay. And then Shaq recruited Allen Iverson to bring back Adidas or Reebok basketball. Okay. Because if you... Like... Shaq was like their top guy.
[00:11:15] Uh-huh. And then they had Allen Iverson who came in like, you know... The answer was like as close as you could get to like a Jordan. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like... Allen Iverson's shoe was very, very popular. Mm-hmm. But um... Like if you go back to like the late 80s with like... Dee Brown and the uh... The slam dunk contest. You know... He was doing the pumps. Yeah, yeah. Like... And I was a Reebok guy.
[00:11:45] Mm-hmm. Because their shoes were cheaper. Yeah. Like they were. Like I could get a pair... A decent pair of Reeboks for like half the price as you could for a pair of Nikes that were comparable. Right. Like... And I always wanted the Shaq... The Shaq Neeks. Okay. Which like... It was like... It looked like the... A hypnotizing like circle on the shoe. Mm-hmm. I always thought it was badass. Mm-hmm.
[00:12:15] And... So like I was a... I was a Reebok guy for a very long... I still am. Mm-hmm. Like if... If I... If I could buy... If you gave me my... If you said you could have... The... A pair of Nikes or a pair of Reeboks. I would probably go with a pair of Reeboks every time. Mm-hmm. Because I was just... I was like... I was a Reebok guy. But anyway... So this was interesting because it's...
[00:12:39] These two guys who were like the cornerstones of what Reebok basketball brand was. Yeah. Coming back and trying to rebuild it. Mm-hmm. And the documentary is not that great. It's just okay. It's very... Friendly towards... Like you know... You don't see like Shaq like flipping over a table or anything. Which I don't think he does but it's...
[00:13:07] You can tell a lot of it feels very staged. Okay. But... What didn't feel staged... Was like... So they're like... We don't want to come back to legacy shoes. We want to put out something brand new. Like... And we want to put... You know... Signed stars... Or future stars... To be a brand ambassador. Okay.
[00:13:34] Like the big one was Angel Reese who plays in the WNBA. Mm-hmm. Um... But like they signed a high school kid... Because you can do that now. Right. Like... Which is like that weird thing to think about. You know... But with NIL... You can sign a high school kid to... Be a brand ambassador. Yeah. Um... You know... So like they didn't... Other than Angel Reese... Like they didn't have anybody like... Huge... But like... A lot of people don't...
[00:14:04] Like that... Of that age range... Don't remember when... Right. Reebok was a powerhouse. Sure. So it's... It's a tough sell. Right. But um... But like watching like... Them build the shoe... Like the new shoe. Right. And then having like Shaq... Like... Talk about it. And he's like... I didn't like it. But... There were five people in the room. Four of them did. Mm-hmm.
[00:14:34] And so... I'm gonna go with it. You know... Because I don't know everything. Right. You know... And like... They were talking to him about like... Nowadays like... Athletes don't wear shoes... That color coordinate... With your uniform. Uh-huh. Like... Which is true. Like NBA... Like you watch an NBA game... You know... They're wearing all sorts of different color shoes out there now. Yeah. You know... Which is like crazy to me. Because like...
[00:15:03] The selling point to Jordan... Was... The colors were red and black. Right. Like the Bulls. Yeah. Like you know... Like that was a big selling point. And... You know... You think back to like... When Shaq and Kobe played... Like you know... The shoes were purple and gold. Yeah. You know like... That was like... You color coordinated with your uniform. But now they're wearing... Whatever the fuck they want. Right. Right. So... That aspect of it was kind of interesting...
[00:15:31] To like see like this generational shift of like... Well... Yeah. That's what you did... 20 years ago. Right. But that's not what these... These players are doing now. Right. Right. Now... Wow. That is interesting. But... Like... They... They did find a compromise at the end. I mean... It's not a bad looking shit. Yeah. I'd probably wear it. You know... But... It's probably... Like in modern time... Like they're trying to compete with Nike... It's probably...
[00:16:01] More than I would pay for. Like I actually looked up like... Nike still sells Shaq Neeks... And... Or not Nike... Reebok. Yeah. I mean... Reebok still sells them. That's like 126 bucks. Yeah. It was funny when I went into the outlets... I was like... I couldn't believe... How many lines Nike had. Oh yeah. I mean I... Was kind of blown back. You know what I mean? Like they have one run that was dedicated just to Air Max.
[00:16:31] Yeah. And there must have been... 15, 20 shoes. Yeah. That were just Air Max models. Yeah. Air Max contours. Air Max... You know... This, that, and the other. And... I was like... Damn. And then they have another... Another one. Then they have another one. Then they have another line. Air Compass or whatever. Then they have their walking shoes. Then they have... Running shoes. Right. And there's CrossFit. Right. And Air Force Ones. And then... Yeah. Yeah. Correct.
[00:17:01] And then like the last row... There was... It was mostly all Jordans. Yeah. Jordan line. And I'm like... Holy... Fuck. I had just... I just had no... I mean, I guess it would take me to go into a Nike store to see that. Yeah. Because you really don't see that in like... You know... Dicks or... Or... Yeah. Yeah. Or even like... DSW or... Yeah. Something like that. Well, definitely not, but like...
[00:17:30] I mean, you'll see like... Like Nike will have a section like a Dicks. Like you go to Dicks, they have like... This is the Nike section. Yeah, and they'll have like eight or ten... Shoes there. Right. And maybe like a couple pairs and hikers and a couple pairs and... Yeah, all... They'll have... But they'll also have like... Okay, so this is like CrossFit. This is walking. Here's the Jordans. Here's the Air Force Ones. Here's... Like... They will have like... A large... Like Nike will have a large area. But like... You're right.
[00:18:01] Like... Like... What they're really into. Like when you go into a Nike store itself, like... Sanity. Yeah. Insanity. Yeah. Like I've never seen so many shoes. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like I was like... Whoa, I was blown away. I was like, these are fucking cool. You know? Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, I can remember getting my Nikes as a kid and teen. You know? Going to Foot Locker, getting the Nikes. Yeah. That's where I got my Nikes usually. Um...
[00:18:29] But I probably wouldn't went apeshit if I went into a Nike store. Yeah. I mean, because I mean... You know? I used to come home from my dad's and I'd have... At least two pairs of Nikes. Yeah. You know, when I came home. Yeah. Usually a pair of like... Well, I got a pair of tennis shoes. Like tennis. Yeah. Right? Yeah. And then I got my Jordans. Yeah. You know, usually. But, um...
[00:18:56] Because I did not play in high school and basketball in high school. But I played basketball. I played streetball all the time. Yeah. You know that. Yeah, you get out in Renzi Park and... Yeah, I played streetball all the time. And, uh... I tell you, man. Those Jordans I had were probably some of the best shoes I ever owned in my entire life. Yeah. And I beat the shit out of them. Yeah. I had those things for... At least two or three years. And I crushed them. Or they were ripping apart. Yeah.
[00:19:24] And if you hadn't done that, that'd probably worth like a couple thousand dollars. No. Yeah. I mean, I put some miles on those. Yeah. Um... Yeah. I played a lot. So... I remember in sixth or seventh grade or eighth... Maybe sixth or seventh grade. My mom. I went out. Because they were new. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I went out and bought a pair of BKs.
[00:19:54] That's when BK was big. Yeah. British Knight had like a... They had a... They had like a two-year... A two-year run where it was like everybody wanted to wear British Knights. Everyone wanted a BKs. Yeah. Right? So I bought a pair of BKs. And they were not like all gaudy and shit. They were mostly all white, black rim bottom. Um... You know, BK symbol. And they were comfortable shoes. They were comfortable. Yeah. I will give them that. Yeah. Right? Because I never wore Adidas. Uh...
[00:20:23] Never got into Adidas. Yeah. I bought a couple pairs of Asics I like. I bought a couple new balances that I really liked. Uh... Not back then. But now. But back then. And you know, I got a pair of BKs. And uh... I wore those fucking things for four days. And my feet stank so bad. I have never smelled stank. Like my feet reacted to whatever they were made from. Yeah. Like I have never. And uh...
[00:20:52] I mean it stank. Yeah. It wasn't just stink. It was like stink that they should be either thrown away or put outside for sure. Yeah. And I couldn't get rid of it. Right. Like odor eaters wouldn't take it away. Yeah. They were horrible. And I was like, did I get them wet? I'm thinking back. Did I get them wet or something like that? Yeah. I don't think so. I think I just reacted to them. Yeah. The only other thing that... The only other shoe that's ever done that to me was um...
[00:21:21] I'm pretty sure I had a pair of Birks my first year of school. Yeah. And college. Yeah. And I took my... You know, I was with dad and he hooked me up for school. And uh... I wanted a pair of Birkenstocks. I wanted a pair of Birkenstocks. Because I had Tevis already. But I wanted to upgrade. I like Tevis. Don't get me wrong. I wore Tevis for years. Yeah. That was the other shoe I wore.
[00:21:51] The sandal. Yeah. For summer, spring. Or whatever. And I bought a pair of Birks. And then Birks on for four days, dude. And I was like... I just threw a $120 pair of shoes out. Oh! Because they stink so bad. I mean... Yeah. They smelled like vomit. Yeah. Like I couldn't believe that even my foot would react to that. Yeah. So there's just certain shoes I guess I can wear and I can't wear. But Nikes I never had a broad with.
[00:22:21] Even my Jordans. Like I... The Jordans I had... I mean, they never stank. As much balls I played in those shoes. Yeah. And the beat down that those shoes got. They could breathe. I guess. That is like... Like... I mean, they never stank. Yeah. I've had some shoes where it's like... I could feel my feet sweating in them. Oh! Because there was just no air getting to my...
[00:22:51] You know? Just screaming. Yeah. And you're like... You know, like when you take that... Like... It was usually a work shoe. Mm-hmm. You know? Because you'd be like... Oh, man. This is... I gotta leave this shoe fucking outside. Oh, when I cooked? Oh, yeah. No way. Yeah. Like I didn't even wear tennis shoes to work. I wore fucking boots. Yeah. Yeah. And those boots... The boots that I went through stank so bad. Oh, yeah. That... I mean... You gotta think. I mean, like... I mean, I smelled like...
[00:23:19] I don't know if everybody's ever worked in fast... Not fast food, but just food in general. Yeah. When you... My shoes smelled like a filter machine you filter oil with. Yeah. Oh, yeah. On top of like meat. It was horrible. Especially when I start line cooking. Yeah. Oh, exactly. And the stink. And those were shoes... And your clothes just get saturated in grease. Your clothes were actually heavy.
[00:23:49] Yeah. Because the grease would not come out of your clothes. No. Like, I remember like I had a pair of like... Like the skid-resistant shoes. Yeah. Like, I think I bought them from Eden Park even. Yeah, yeah. Eden Park was like... Had a program where you could buy the slip-resistant shoes. Sure. And then they just took it out of your paycheck. Mm-hmm. And I got to order a pair from them. And I'm... You know, I was a dishwasher at the time. And I could just like... Feel like... Because like not only are you like sweating...
[00:24:18] Because you're on your feet and you're running around... And you're doing what you're doing. But like they're getting wet. Yeah. Because you're... Like, you know... You're standing at the sink. You're spraying shit down. Water's going to get... And I just remember like... Like those shoes like... Stank. Like I had to leave them out on the porch. Yeah. Ugh. Like I was also going back in the day... Like my regular shoe was like... You know, a Chuck Taylor. Yeah. Because they were cheap. Yeah. Like people like today...
[00:24:48] Like a Chuck Taylor is like a $100 shoe. And I laugh. Because like... When I was a kid... Like Chuck Taylor's... They didn't even come in a fucking box. No, they came in a fucking hanger. They came in like a hanger. With like... Like a plastic piece holding them together. And it was like... They were like the saddest fucking shoe. And it was like... You know... I got made fun of for wearing Chuck Taylor's. Yeah, yeah. You know... Like just the brown canvas shoe. But like today... It's like... It's like the it shoe.
[00:25:18] Oh, yeah. Chuck's got huge. And they remain huge. They've been huge for years. Yeah. They've been huge for like 25 years. 26 years now. It's like... Maybe even more. Right. They came back and they hit and they stayed. Yeah. But once Journeys took them over... Yeah. Not took them over, but... But yeah. Yeah. Because it became like that thing like when you heard... Like people were talking about Pabst Blue Ribbon being a good beer. Like what? When the fuck did that happen? I have to tell you. Pabst bottles are pretty good.
[00:25:48] I'm just saying. Like Pabst Blue Ribbon used... Not cans, but bottles. But Pabst Blue Ribbon used to be the beer you could buy like on the cheap. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like that was like... It was like a little bit higher than Beast. Yeah. In my opinion. Like you could buy like a case for like $8 back in the day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Like it was like... All right. I've got 10 bucks. I'm going to buy a case of Pabst and I'm going to get myself like a bag of chips. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that was like my meal.
[00:26:18] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that... So like... Like that... So when... This is what this is like. Like when like Chucks became popular and like people were like... Oh, I love Chucks. I'm like, where the fuck were you like... Like 1990? Yeah, yeah. You know? When I was getting mocked and ridiculed for wearing Chucks. Mm-hmm. Like you go to Hills. Like in the... You go to Hills, which doesn't exist anymore. Right. And you go into the shoe department of Hills and it was like... Okay. Yeah.
[00:26:48] Here's the Chuck, Sean. Which... What's that? Well, let's put you on the thing so we can figure out what size shoe you wear. We're going to buy a size bigger so you can grow into it. Right, right. Fuck. Yeah. And there wasn't like all these colors back then. We had black and white, I think. I only ever saw tan canvas. Tan. I never saw a black Chuck until like... Like your girls were... Oh, man. Might have to edit that.
[00:27:19] Jesus. What kind of shoe is this? Wow, that's a good turn. All right. Never saw a Chuck. Chuck. But I never saw a Chuck other than the tan canvas. Right. Until like the one day, like I'm sitting there and like your girls are wearing them. Oh, yeah.
[00:27:48] I'm like, what the fuck is this? Like, oh, that's Chuck Taylor. Is that cool? I'm like, when the fuck did that happen? They love their Chuck Taylors. They do. I mean, I know they... Kelly still has... Yeah. I mean, they get Chucks every year. Yeah. Bree's kind of graduated on to Vans and Airwalks, but she likes her Chucks and then Anna loves Chucks. Yeah. But Ellie likes Chucks too. They're different though. Like, they changed. Like, they're more supportive of the sole. Yeah. Oh.
[00:28:17] It's not like when we were kids. No. I mean, these were cheaply made. It's like we... I mean, like when you were kids, it was like wearing burlap bags. It was. Like... It was horrible. It was... And when they got wet, it was even worse. It was. And to top it all off, it was like... It was just... Like, the sole was just like hard plastic. There was no give. There was no, like, athleticism to them at all. You might as well just put a couple two by fours in your... Like, these were the same style shoes that Chuck Taylor wore. Right.
[00:28:47] You know, like in the 50s and 60s. Like, you know, these were not good shoes at all. They were cheaply made. Yeah. Like, yeah. But, you know, I mean... And they were $3. I think I had one pair of Chucks. Yeah. Back then. Yeah. You know? I don't even know why I had them. I think Mom bought them for... I don't know. I think Grandma probably, like, you know... Bro. The boy needs shoes! Well, I had shoes. Yeah. I mean, I was spoiled in that aspect. Yeah. There were certain things I was spoiled in. Yeah. Like, when I was a kid.
[00:29:17] And one was shoes and clothes. Yeah. I had shoes and clothes all the time. Yeah. I always came back with at least two or three pairs of shoes. Usually came back with a couple pairs of sunglasses. Yeah. No, really. No, you did. Yeah. I mean, Dan did spoil me on that. He did. I can freely admit that. I was spoiled on clothes. Like, I had, like... Now, I'm, like, reverse. Yeah.
[00:29:45] I won't buy a pair of pants unless they're, like, $12 on sale. No, for real. Like... I get that. I'll spend some money on some socks because I'm always on my feet. Yeah. Um... Um... But t-shirts, man... I won't... I won't pay less than 10 bucks for a t-shirt. Yeah. Now, sometimes I will. I mean, if it's a nice tee. Like... I'm a big fan of Kohl's. Of Iso tees. Yeah. Because they carry...
[00:30:13] The nice thing about Kohl's, which... And pennies, too. But pennies... Their foundry stuff is pretty good. And they're big and tall. But... Iso makes a big and tall... Um... XLT and 2XLT. Yeah. Now, it used to be a 4XLT. Yeah. Went down to 3XLT. Now, I'm at 2XLT now. And... But... They, um... They make that... That long... That LT is what I want.
[00:30:44] Yeah. I don't want extra big for me. I just want XLT. Because it gives me the length. Right. You know what I'm saying? Oh, yeah. And that's what's important. Yeah. You can give me a 3X shirt and... Whatever. If it just says 3X, it's too short. Yeah. You know, when you lift up your arms like there's your belly. Yeah. It's just too short. Yeah. Right? So, I need that... That tall. Right. And there's only a couple places that actually get it. Unless you get your stuff online. You know what I mean? And then you don't know what you're getting.
[00:31:12] Because if it's foreign product, if it's from Asia, then the size... The sizes are smaller. Yeah. Inherently. Like a 3XT there would be like a 1XT here. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Like, there's definitely a difference in size. I will throw you... And this is going to sound odd. But... Amazon Basic... Mm-hmm. Makes a halfway decent shirt. Yeah? Yeah.
[00:31:41] Like, I own two. Uh-huh. And... They're both... Like, I bought them in the LT. Yeah, yeah. And they're comfy. They fit. Okay. So, it's like... The material feels nice. Yeah, yeah. If you're looking for just a base... Sure. ...shirt. Amazon Basic. And it's not poorly priced. Oh, that's good.
[00:32:10] I've also found, like, I can buy... Like... I've been a slave for quite some time to Destination XL. Okay. Because... Like, that's like the place I would... Like, a man of my girth would have to go to... To get clothing. Okay. And, like... And you... It's so overpriced. It is. Like, it's... Like... It's ridiculous. I'm not...
[00:32:39] But, like... But it... That's what kind of pisses me off. But God... Right. And so, like... I wasn't buying, like... It was like, I'm gonna wear this thing until it fucking falls off of me. Right. You know? And... Somebody clued me in... And let me know, like... You know, you can find... Similar shit on, like, Amazon... At half the price. Yeah. Because... And they're going, like... Like, this queen... I'm wearing a queen t-shirt today. Mm-hmm.
[00:33:08] I just bought this a few weeks ago. This was, like... 18 bucks. Mm-hmm. Like, a shirt similar to this... Would be, like... 40 bucks. Yeah. 35... Between 35 and 40 bucks at Destination XL. Yeah. Like... Fuck that. Right. No, I know. That's what I'm saying. Like, you go into one of those places... Those XL places... And they're like... And I would never buy this shirt. But what I'm saying is, like... There's a t-shirt that says Chevy on it. Yeah. It's like $35. Yeah. I'm like...
[00:33:39] Are you outside of your mind? I would never pay $35 for a t-shirt. Yeah. You know what I mean? Would I pay $35 for a dress shirt or $40? Yeah. Depending on the shirt. Right. Like, if it's... Like, I do like Shaquille O'Neal. Yeah. Wear. You know what I mean? And what's his name? Football player. Strahan. Yeah. Strahan. Michael Strahan, yeah. Yeah. His shit's... Their shit's tight. Yeah. I mean, they have some nice stuff. Yeah. But, shit. All right.
[00:34:09] For a t-shirt? You gotta be out of your mind. That's a lot of money. It is. $18 is a lot of money, I feel. But, I'm old school. Right. I mean, I think so, too. Like, I agree with you. Like, but, like, $18 is far more affordable than $35 to $40. Oh, agreed. You know? So, I'm buying two t-shirts for the price of one. Yeah. Exactly. You know what I mean? And, I've got, like... I've expanded my wardrobe. You know?
[00:34:36] Which is, like, you know, an odd thing to say. But, because I'm willing to get, like, two for the price of one compared to what I'd be paying at Destination XL. So, I've, like, bought some, like... Like, this t-shirt. I bought a... One with, you know, the Enterprise on it. Yeah. A couple of Star Wars t-shirts. A couple of Godzilla t-shirts. Like, I was eyeballing an Oreo Speedwagon one. Yeah. I still might pull the trigger on that. You know? It's shit like that. Like, you know... If you like them. Yeah.
[00:35:06] And, it's like... It's in my price range. Right. It's the real key. As compared to... You know... I could get one Star Wars shirt. Right. You know, Destination XL. I'm like, oh, wow. You know what I mean? So... Where are we? Oh, we're all fashionistas here. Well... Yeah. We're fashionistas. Yeah.
[00:35:34] Enough clothing and... Getting back to the original thought. It's like men on film here. It is. Give that two snaps up. And around the world. And around the world. Yeah. So, um... The documentary was just okay. I don't recommend it. Yeah. Unless you're into the subject matter. Yeah. Like, if that interests you, then you might enjoy it. Um... It wasn't as hardcore as I was hoping it would be. Even though it's like that thing of like...
[00:36:04] I will say this. Like, Shaquille O'Neal does seem like a genuinely good guy. Okay. Like, everything you see him as like, you know... He seems like a decent human being. Yeah. You know, but... Other than that... It just... It wasn't like... It was basically a... A six-episode commercial for Reebok. Okay. You know. So... But, um... I did also watch...
[00:36:33] Season two of FUBAR. Okay. And, uh... It wasn't bad. Yeah? Yeah. I will say this. Arnie's looking old. Yeah, he is. Did you watch it? Yeah. I put it on. Okay. And... Well... I put it on.
[00:37:03] And... I put it on the first season. Yeah. And I was like, I think I watched this. Yeah. And then things start coming back. I was like, I did watch it. And then there was a new season. I'm like... Oh. Okay. And, uh... I didn't go to the new season. Okay. I mean, it's good. I enjoyed it. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments. Yeah. But, yeah, the big guy is starting... Mm-hmm. Like, it was like...
[00:37:35] I hate to say this. Um... But it was like watching Chuck Norris and Walker Texas Ranger. Ooh. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, there's a moment where, like, he's supposed to be coming up with a gun. Uh-huh. And, boy, that gun came up slow. You know? Like, you're like, oh. Really? He's not getting the drop on anybody. You know? Yeah, yeah. Like, there are a couple other moments. Like, you can see, like, he's got a little bit of a...
[00:38:02] A little bit of a giddy-up in his step now when he walks. Right, right. Like... And you could really tell they were trying to focus the action away from him. Okay. You know? There's younger actors that, you know... Like, even with a stunt double, like, it was like, let's try to keep the action away from Arnold and focus more on the younger actors. Right, right. You know? And... But, uh...
[00:38:32] I mean, it's probably as good as the first season. You know? It's ridiculous. It's fun. You know? It's goofy. Yeah. You know? I enjoyed it. Like, I watched it over two days, and I feel like I got my money's worth out of it. You know? Yeah, okay. So, I will... I will say this. If you watched FUBAR the first season, and you enjoyed that, you'll probably enjoy the second season as well. Okay. And it did end...
[00:39:01] It ended in a very kind of weird Netflix-y way where it's like, okay, it kind of gave it closure, but it left it open. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, it's like they don't know if there's gonna be a third season, so we might as well just shut it down, but leave it open in case they say okay. Yeah. So, we shall see. But, uh... Those are the two things I watched.
[00:39:30] I cannot find the movie that I watched. Yeah. And it was supposed to, like... Something... Uh... I can't... It was about a... It was like a ghost movie. Yeah. I'm just not sure what it was called. I cannot... Yeah.
[00:39:58] Think of what the fuck this was called. But it was terrible. You know? I mean, the premise was, like... Sometimes you had the ghost point of view. Yeah. Like, he didn't see the ghost. He just... He was kind of going through the house floating. Yeah. It was just two hours I'll never get back. And then there were reviews on it, like... Independent film and all this crap.
[00:40:29] Yeah. And I'm watching, and I'm like... This is terrible. Yeah. And, like, it just... I get it from an artistic standpoint where they're trying to come from. Yeah. I cannot remember the name of it to save my life. But, um... It was bad. I just didn't like it. Yeah. I just cannot fucking remember the name of it. What else did I watch? I watched Wicked.
[00:41:01] And I had never seen it before. Okay. Um, surprisingly. Um... Because Elle loves Wicked. Yeah. You know, it's a big thing. Um... It was good. Yeah. Um... Well, we started watching. I had no... I... I had no idea. I mean, I know Ariana Grande was in it. Right. And the girl that played... I don't know her name.
[00:41:31] Um... But I knew she was, like, really good. The girl that played, you know, the Wicked Witch. Yeah. And she was also in The Color Purple. Yeah. Um... On Broadway. And, like, that was supposed to be amazing. Yeah. The only thing that happened to The Color Purple was... I think it came out the same year as Hamilton came out. Yeah. Yeah, so... So, and Hamilton swept everything. Right. Um... But, um... Um... Musically, it was fantastic. I liked the concept...
[00:42:02] Yeah. ...of what they were after. Right. Like, I get that other side. Um... I can't... Elle told me who directed it. He directed something else. I can't remember. Anyway, he's Pittsburgh Guy, CMU. I just can't... Or he did The Cat and... I don't know. He wrote it. Uh...
[00:42:31] Let's see here. Directed by John M. Chu. No, it wasn't Chu. That's who directed it. He was the producer. Um... He also directed In the Heights. Yeah, it wasn't the director. It was somebody else. The writer. Maybe. There were four writers on this. Mm-hmm. Oh. L. Frank Baum.
[00:43:02] Who created The Wizard of Oz. He is credited as a writer for some reason. Yeah. Uh... Gregory Maguire did the novel. Dana Fox and Winnie Holtzman did the screenplay. I don't know. Elle told me so. Book of the Musical stage play? I don't know. Eh, whatever. So... Anyway, I watched it. And... Remember when there was all that thing about... Um...
[00:43:30] Ariana Grande looked like she was anorexic and she was sick? Well, it was all... Yeah, there was all sorts of controversies with this. Oh, I know. Yeah. But she looked sick. Yeah. I mean, like... She looked almost anorexic. Yeah. It was great. But she's an amazing singer. And, like, originally, I think he did... It was... Christine Chenoweth or something like that. And Adida Menzel. Adida Menzel was the Wicked Witch. Yeah, the...
[00:43:59] And on the Broadway version. Yeah, the... The original. Right, yeah. Yeah. And then the... I can't think of her name. She was in the West Wing. She was in a... Little... She was like... She was like... About four foot nine or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I know who you're talking about. I can't think of her name. Yeah, Golden Bull. Christine Chenoweth or... Yeah, something like that. Something like that. So... And those two are powerhouses, right? Yeah.
[00:44:29] Especially in the Broadway world. I mean, they're powerhouses. Yeah. Right. And so I didn't know how that was going to translate. It translated very well. I mean, it's... One of the played Wicked Witch was amazing. But I liked the viewpoint. I thought some of the songs were kind of corny. Yeah. You know, but that's... That's Broadway. Yeah. But, like, the story was good.
[00:44:57] And it all starts off as, like... You know, the group... Coming down the Yellow Brick Road after they killed the Wicked Witch. Right. And they go into Munchkin Land. Right? Yeah. And there's, like, this... Like... There's, like... They bring out posters, and then... The Witch is dead. And there's a burning man of the Witch. Yeah. I was like, man, these people are assholes. I mean, like... Yeah.
[00:45:27] You know what I mean? And... Glenda is there. Yeah. You know what I mean? Which is Ariana Grande. And she's like... Yes, you know, to the Munchkins, and this, that, and the other. But there's, like... You could sense part of her is like... Yeah. I mean, okay, I've had my time here. Time to move on. You know? And, uh... Anyway. They were watching this thing, and then I found out who the wizard was. And I'm like, I'm done.
[00:45:57] I can't. I just cannot. I... I just... This can't endure the gold bloom? I could not. I was like... I... I almost stopped watching it. I was like... Are you serious? Is it really Jeff Goldblum? Yeah. And, uh... He actually was okay. Um... He was. I mean, it was Jeff Goldblum. But, I mean... There's a rule that meant he can make work. I got past it. Yeah. Right. When the effects were good, and all that shit. You know, cinematography.
[00:46:26] And, I mean, it looked beautiful. I mean, it did. Um... But this underlying story of her. You know? Yeah. Outcast, and... All that shit. Internal struggles. Right. With the music. I thought it was really good. I did. And it's a setup. Like... Yeah. Yeah, this is the beginning. Right. Yeah, this is part one. There's a part two coming out later this year. Yeah. No spoilers for anybody. But, I mean, like, there was one part... It was really... What I really found fascinating about it was kind of Narnia-like.
[00:46:57] Was that, like, these animals taught, you know? Yeah. Like, there were teachers and physicians and midwives that was a bear. Yeah. Like, I thought that was really cool. Like, there was a sense of intelligence. Right. Not just a sense, but they were intelligent. Right. They taught in school. Yeah. I mean, there was all kinds of things. And then the whole thing was, like... I'm just gonna spoil the shit. I don't care. Most people see it in any way.
[00:47:25] But, like, they wanted to get rid of the animals. Yeah. You know what I mean? And put them in cages. Yeah. Or kill them. Right. You know what I mean? Which I thought was... God, that's evil. Yeah. And that was all done by the wizard. Right. This other woman. They wanted to wipe it out and, you know. I'm like, man, that's fucked up. No wonder she went like that. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, it makes you think, right? It flips the coin where you see it on the other side. Right. Which I like. And...
[00:47:54] But there's one part where, you know, they were in the classroom and they got rid of the goat that was teaching, right? And he actually was, like, one of my favorite characters. Yes. And he brought this new professor in and it was like... And they were like, children, let me introduce you to what I call the cage. And there was, like, this baby tiger in a cage. Yeah. Well, anyway, it was this cool thing with the poppy thing.
[00:48:19] And she has, like, she has talents, but she's not a full-blown sorceress. Right. And so... But she can do things. And so she did the whole poppy thing. Put everybody to sleep except for her and this other guy. Yeah. And they stole the tiger and they put him in the woods. Wow. Yeah. Thus the cowardly lion. Right. Do you know what I mean? Like, it was setting up certain things.
[00:48:45] Like, you saw who the scarecrow was and who the tin man was on little things during the film. Right. You know, like, he had this, like, little handkerchief that he always put on his heart. Right. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. And you knew that, you know... Ellie told me this. I didn't even pick it out. Right. And there was, like, this guy who was an idiot, he was like a prince and he just danced all the time. It was the scarecrow. Yeah. He was, like, mindless. Yeah. Do you understand what I mean? Yeah. And you could tell that, well, that was the scarecrow.
[00:49:15] You know what I'm saying? Yeah. So, I liked it. I liked that. I was kind of very disturbed by it. It's a very disturbing film on, like, mob roles. Right? Right. But, you know, like, if you're different, you're fucked up. Yeah. You know, and everybody gangs on that train against that one person that's different. Right. You know what I mean?
[00:49:41] And it was produced and directed and written in a way where you really actually started to hate everybody. You know, like, these munchkins were supposed to be... Yeah. Yeah, they're fuck-ups, man. Yeah. They're fucking assholes. I mean, like, after you watch this movie. Right. You know what I mean? And, like, these other people are, like, so cliquish. Fuck the lollipop guild. Well, that's what I'm saying.
[00:50:02] And, like, it was brought out to where, like, wow, these people are, like, some of them, especially when they got into Oz, you know, like, these people are, like, upper-crust people. Right. And it's, like, not upper-crust, but, like, upper-crust with, like, an attitude toward being different or out of the norm and stuff. That's the animals and stuff like that. Right. So, yeah, it kind of fucked me up. Like, I was, like... Yeah. At the end of it, I was, like, good for fucking her. Yeah.
[00:50:32] Like, I was, like... Lay waste to Oz. At the end of it, that's why I was, like, just fucking lay everybody to waste. Fucking idiots. You know? Well, again, it's... Fucking sheep. Like, what makes the best villain? The villain that you kind of agree with. Yeah. You know, you're obviously agreeing. I did. I agreed with what she was doing. Right. You know what I mean? I wish it was a musical. Yeah, I know. And I understood.
[00:51:02] Yeah. Like, the story itself is, like, really good. Because maybe you should read the book. Maybe I should read the book. Yeah. You know what I mean? Without... Because that's the thing, like... To me, like... The story does sound very interesting to me. Like, I remember when it was a play, people were like, oh, you'll love it. Like, yeah, but it's a musical. Yeah. You know, and... But in book form... Yeah, in book form, I may enjoy it. Yeah. Because it was very... It was... There was... I'm sure they left a shit ton out that was in the book. Yeah.
[00:51:32] But it's very deep. Like, it's very... It deals with a lot of things. It touches on a lot of things. Yeah. You know what I mean? And it's like... Man. I loved it. I mean, like, there were certain parts I absolutely loved about it. Yeah. I did like the music, because I'm a fan of musicals, right? Right. And I like Broadway, and I like all that stuff. Yeah. But some of the stuff is kind of like, eh. I've seen it before. Yeah. But... Choreograph was good.
[00:52:01] Choreograph was good, and there were certain songs that I really enjoyed. Yeah. You know? And the powerhouses in their voices. Yeah. Even Ariana Grande, it was huge. Yeah. And we all know she can sing anyway, but I didn't know she can sing like that. As high-pitched in strength. But, um... Whitney-esque. Yeah. Really. Yeah. Um... But she wasn't as good as that girl from The Color Purple. Yeah. I mean, like, she can...
[00:52:31] Nail it. So, yeah, I did enjoy it. So, anybody who's a fan of The Wizard of Oz, of course, want to see a different side of it. You see it. Most people out there probably have or have chosen not to. But... It was good. I think I'm going to read the book, though. Yeah. You know what I mean? I think I might enjoy the book better. You... I mean, yeah. You very well may. That's an odd thing.
[00:53:02] Like, I'm trying to find... Let me see what I... I'm like that odd person. And I'm trying to find when it came out. Give me a second. As I look for this. Go back. Made a shit ton of movies.
[00:53:27] There was a version of Les Mis. Okay. Okay. With Liam Neeson. Okay. It is not a musical. Okay. It's... The story... Without... The music.
[00:53:56] You know, it's just a straight... Like, it's the book. Right. Um... And it has... Like, Liam Neeson is... Is... Is Valjean. And, um... Jeffrey Rush is... Is Javid. Okay. Like... And it's like... I... Like... I do not want to see the musical version of Les Mis. I will watch that version any day of the week, though. Right. Because it's so well done. Yeah. You know?
[00:54:26] And... It's telling the story in a way that I would much rather appreciate. Um... Like... I am tempted to watch Wicked. Because the story does interest me. Like... Unlike Hamilton. Like, everybody's like... Oh, you gotta watch Hamilton. You gotta watch... The story is of no interest to me. Right. You know what I mean? Like... I'm not a big fan of, like, history. And more importantly... Like, I don't care about Alexander Hamilton. Okay. You know what I mean? Like... That story has of zero to no interest to me. Sure. Okay.
[00:54:55] This is interesting to me because it's like... How did the Wicked Witch become the Wicked Witch? You know? Like, what twisted her to become that? And... Does she have a point? Right. You know what I mean? And that's... You know... The interesting thing about it. I wish it wasn't a musical. Okay. Like... Like... Like, maybe I will read the... Excuse me. Maybe I will read the book. Because that does sound interesting to me. Uh-huh. But at the same time... Like, I'm at that... Like, a point where it's like...
[00:55:25] I would love to watch this. Right. I have nothing... Like... I'm not a fan of Ariana Grande. Okay. Like... But... You know, I'm not holding the movie against her. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I understand why it was done as a musical. Why... Like, everything makes sense. Like... You know, you go... Like... The play was created as a musical. The movie's gonna be a musical. Because that's what's so popular. But at the same time... The story is so interesting... That, like... That...
[00:55:55] That piques my interest. Right. So... Like, I'm at a cross... Like... Because I see it on there. It's on Peacock. I'm like... Man, I should just watch this. I'm like... Ah... I just can't do it. You know what I mean? Right. But... But it is an interesting concept of, like... Do it... Going back, like... To how... How this all came to be. Right. You know... That's what fascinates me. Yeah. And, like... Goldbloom... Like, I know you're like...
[00:56:25] You're like, oh, Goldbloom. Like, you're just tired of Goldbloom being Goldbloom. But, like... To me, like... That's, like, perfect casting. Because... You know, he is the wizard. Mm-hmm. Like, him... Like... I could see that working in my head. Yeah. He was good for the little bit of time he was in it. Yeah. I mean, he's gonna be in it more... In the second one. But still... Like, he works in my head. Like, okay... Goldbloom being Goldbloom as a wizard makes sense. Yeah, it does.
[00:56:53] I mean, because that guy was goofy, too, in the original. But... Yeah. Um... There was also a good explanation of the flying monkeys, too. Which I really appreciate. Yeah. Like, I mean... It's making, like... It's that thing of, like... You know, we're going to explain everything so that when you watch The Wizard of Oz, you understand where all of this came from. Yeah. Yeah, it does. Sort of. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it does. Yeah. Um...
[00:57:22] The rivalry between Glenda and the Wicked Witch. Yeah, I think that's explained later in the second and third movie. Is there a third movie? I think there's a third. I thought there was only two. Um... If there is, that's fine with me. Yeah. But... I'm all about the franchise now. No, I'm not. Um... Because they become best friends in this film. Yeah. And, like... At the end, they kind of leave best friends. But I guess...
[00:57:52] I saw previews of the new one. Sort of. Yeah. And it's like... It's Anakin and Obi-Wan. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sort of. Sort of, yeah. Yeah, you know. But... We were the chosen one! I still don't understand the thing of melting. That must have been a curse. Yeah. Or a spell put on her or something. I hope it was explained in the second part. Yeah, it will be, I'm sure. But, I mean, like... I mean, like... She was a kid. I mean, she was just... Yeah.
[00:58:23] Yeah, I mean, like, her... I know, I'm telling the whole movie here. But most people have seen it. But, like... I'm telling you. Yeah. Right? But, like... Yeah, I'm the minority in this. Like, I don't even know what I've seen. The play or the movie. Well, I just saw it. So, I mean, like, she was spawned. Yeah. Like, her mother was married. Yeah. Her mother had an affair with the wizard. Yeah. And she was drinking some kind of green shit that the wizard brought out. Yeah.
[00:58:51] Like, some kind of alcohol or absinthe or something. Yeah. Some shit. So, she had a... Well, I don't think the dad knew. Yeah. I don't think. And out pops his green baby. Yeah. And the father was like, get that fucking thing out of the room. No, really. Yeah. Like, a bonish. You know what I mean? Yeah. So, it was kind of... And then the sister... And then all of a sudden, it flashed forward. Like, the girl was like 10. She had a seven...
[00:59:21] Six-year-old, seven-year-old sister that was in a wheelchair. Yeah. And it explains that. All this stuff. Because the father was so concerned about having another child that he made the mother drink milkweed. Yeah. I don't think that was... And then that made the child... Her legs didn't work. Yeah. And... Which I thought was wild. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. But also, the sister...
[00:59:51] For some reason, got some shoes and... The ruby slippers and everything. That kind of shows you that... Because, you know, there was this wicked witches, right? Yeah. One to the east and one to the west, right? Right. We kind of... You know, that's the sister that... Yeah. Glenda was the good witch of the north, I believe. Yeah. And like... You know, the sister got hit by the house. Yeah. The whole thing.
[01:00:20] You know, that whole thing. Give me my fucking shoes! Well, then there'd be no wonder that... Why the wicked witch would be pissed at her anyway. Because she was number one handicapped. Yeah. Just dropped a house on her. Yeah. Number two is like... During the film, she's always protecting her sister. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. Even when they went to the school of sorcery, whatever. Right. Yeah. She was always protecting her sister. Right. Making sure she was okay. And this, that, and the other. You know what I mean? Yeah. And so...
[01:00:50] That would make sense. Like... Do you see the mental thing? Yeah. With her? It's like... It's crazy. Yeah. You can see where this all goes wrong. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It is. And it's like... It was pretty cool. I have to admit that there are a lot of points that I really enjoyed. And I was in tune with it. I don't think I got up during that whole show. Yeah. Yeah. I just watched it. Yeah. And they're like, what's wrong with you?
[01:01:19] I was like, no, I'm just focusing... Yeah. ...on the show. Like... Yeah. I'm really interested in this. I was really interested in this backstory of what's going on. And what caused her to be like the Wicked Witch. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. Where did she get her hat? Why does she dress like this? How did her skin turn green? Why? You know what I mean? Yeah. And it was explaining all this through the whole thing. Now, I hate the Wizard of Oz. Right? I mean, like, you're coming from a person that does not like the Wizard of Oz. Yeah.
[01:01:49] I can't stand it. Like, I didn't like it as a kid. I didn't like it when it came on once a year and mom made me watch it. I fucking hated it. I hated it. Mom loved it. Yeah. Right? But she was in that time period where that color was real. Yeah. Yeah. That transition was... Was like, holy shit. She saw it in the theater, I think. Yeah. I think. Probably, yeah. Maybe not. What year then? 38?
[01:02:19] I'm sure it made the rounds, though. I'm sure that was like... Yeah, I don't know. No. I don't remember. But, I mean, like, to see that in color... Yeah. Must have been amazing. Yeah. You know what I mean? The horse of many colors. I mean, like, everything about it once you got to Oz. And they did it beautifully in the movie. Yeah. I respect the movie for what it is. Right. Like, when you're going from black and white and all of a sudden... Yeah. Bam! And the color fucking hits you like you've never seen. Yeah. Sort of like seeing Jurassic Park for the first time. Right. Right? Right.
[01:02:49] You never saw anything like that. Right. No, I get what you're saying. Plus, I mean, also, like, you throw in, like, you know, Pink Floyd. Right. You know. No, but... I get it. Right? So, it was just... What about The Wiz? I like The Wiz, dude. I mean, how can you not? Yeah. How can you not like The Wiz? I mean, that's... I probably like The Wiz better than I like The Wizard of Oz. No, for real. I'm in the same boat. Like, I respect The Wizard of Oz for what it is.
[01:03:19] You're right. Like, from a movie-making standpoint, it is fucking amazing. It is amazing. And what they did with it was amazing. Like, how they... And the sets and the designs. Yeah. Unreal. Like, I... I'm like... I'm with you where I think... Drunk midgets running around. Yeah. Like... I mean, but it came with under the rainbow. It's like crawling sheep without a dog. Yeah. I mean... Okay. Chevy Chase's opus under the rainbow. Yeah. Oh, great movie. But, uh...
[01:03:48] But, like... So, I respect it for... I think I'm with you where it's like... It got jammed down our throats so much when we were kids. Yeah. That it's like... Fuck The Wizard of Oz. But, like, The Wiz... Like... Damn, that's good shit. It is. Boogie on down, boogie on down the road. Diana Ross. It's Russell action. Jackson. Like, all that shit. Like, I'm right there. Yeah. Yeah. It was like... I don't know. I did like The Wiz. But, I mean, I just... I do...
[01:04:18] And I think I liked it when I first saw it. You know what I mean? Yeah. It was kind of scary. When I first saw The Wizard of Oz. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. The flying monkeys. The flying monkeys at the trees, throwing apples. Yeah. It was creepy, man. Like, it was wild shit. Yeah. You know, even for the time period, it was kind of wild. Yeah. Yeah. And I... But what I really liked about The Wizard of Oz is just the detail of set and, like, how it was designed and... Yeah. ...these painted backgrounds.
[01:04:48] Like, it was just amazing how they did it. Yeah. No, I agree. I mean, just absolutely amazing. And it was a fantastic story to begin with. And then they put it in movie form. And, you know, Garland was amazing. I mean, it was just... It was beautiful. But then, you know, after you watch it for the fucking 10th time, it's just like, I don't want to see this shit anymore. You know what I mean? Yeah. I don't... I know what happens. Yeah, like, the word...
[01:05:16] What makes it even worse, like, I was watching, and it was like, somebody posted it. It was the guy who played the Scarecrow. And, like, he's on, um, Judy Garland's TV show. Right. And I mean... And Judy Garland's, like, watching him, and, like, she's so coked up. Oh! Like, I mean... Yeah, he's thinking if I only had a brain. And she's, like, wrapped her around his arm, and, like, her... Like, pupils are, like, fucking saucers. And you're just like, oh my god.
[01:05:47] Fucked up. Yeah. Like, holy shit. Anyway. Anyway, so... So you highly... If you haven't... If somebody's in the musicals, you highly recommend Wick and I Take It. I recommend musicals... Um... I recommend this musical if you like musicals on Broadway.
[01:06:17] Yeah. Because it's really good. Yeah. Um... But I also recommend it to people that read The Wizard of Oz by Bomb. Yeah. To see the flip side of that. Right. You know what I mean? Like, if you... Like, I got... I liked it. Don't get me wrong. I kind of went deeper into it, I guess. Yeah. I was more into the story, actually, than I was in the music. Right.
[01:06:46] Does that make sense? No, it doesn't. I mean, there were certain songs that would just fucking blow you out of the water, right? Right. But I was more interested in the story. And that's weird for me, because usually I'm into the musical part. Right. You know what I mean? As with Hamilton. I mean, I love the story, because I'm a history buff, right? So... Right. I love the whole thing and their play on it. Yeah. Not accurate. But, I mean, like, it was cool to play on what they did. Right. But the music was amazing to me. The music was...
[01:07:15] Certain songs were absolutely unbelievable. But I was more interested in the story. So I liked that background. Especially when the animals were involved. I was like, ooh, animals. That talk. I'm all about it. Yeah. That's like gnarning it to me. Yeah. Like, ruin that. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I liked that. I liked that song. Yeah, because, like... But the only other musical, like... Well, okay, there's the music now, which we both agree.
[01:07:44] Probably the greatest musical of all time. I love that music. I know. But, um... Like, when you recommended Moulin Rouge, it was clearly because you were like, you're going to like the music and the story will just kind of fall into place for you. Yeah. And you were right. Yeah. Because, I mean, it's like, especially when you get to the Tang and DeRoxanne. Yeah. It's amazing. No, that's... Like, I can listen to that just by itself. It's a masterpiece. It is. The way that was filmed.
[01:08:13] The way it was filmed, but also just the song. Like, we all know Roxanne. Yeah. You know, one of the police's biggest hits ever. Right. But when you take it and you rearrange it the way that they did, and you add in Ewan McGregor's... Yeah. The underlining. Yeah. Yeah. Like, as a song, that works so fucking well. You know, that dude, I rock, and, you know, and I was like, oh, shit.
[01:08:44] So fucking good. Yeah. He was just on the money with that song. Yeah. I mean, a lot of the songs were good in Moulin Rouge. Don't get me wrong. Like, it... The elephant scene. I mean, like, there was tons of songs. Like, it gets shit on because it's like, well, it used popular music. Well, I mean, that was part of the hook for me. Yeah. In all honesty, like, I didn't, like... I think it's part of it.
[01:09:10] Like, for most musicals, I don't care for, like, the music of them. They're very few. Yeah, yeah. You know? So, but that hooked me because it was modern music giving a spin. Right. And made the work for this. Like, you're right. Like, the elephant scene up on top of the elephant and the medley that they do. Yeah. Like, that's fantastic. It is. You know? How it was incorporated. Yeah. How they were talking to each other through music. Yeah.
[01:09:40] It was just amazing. Yeah, I agree. It was just... Who comes up with that shit? Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I just thought... When we first saw it, I thought... When I first saw it, I was like, man, this is brilliant. And it's all songs we knew. Yeah. Like, it was one original song, and the one original song is fantastic, too. Right. But, like, everything else was, like... It was incorporated so well, and... Even, like, A Virgin was good.
[01:10:10] Yeah. Yeah. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Like, how it was incorporated into the... Yeah. Storyline. Yeah. Yeah. It just made sense. Every song made sense throughout the whole thing. Yeah. It's crazy. Yeah, I love it. That's one of my top movies. Moonlight Rouge is a great movie. And I'm familiar with his work. You know what I mean? Yeah. What? Romeo and Juliet.
[01:10:39] Yeah, Baz Laurman. Like, yeah, yeah. His version of Romeo and Juliet is amazing. Oh. What's his name? DiCaprio. Yeah. Yeah. Mercutio. Oh, yeah. John Guzama. Yeah. Yeah. Like Guzama. Amazing. Right? Yeah. But it was just that good. Like, I even love... Again, I'm in the minority, but I love Baz Laurman's The Great Gatsby. Okay.
[01:11:11] Like, I don't know. Like, it's that odd thing of like... I mean, people are like, oh, the Redford version is like the version. Yeah. I get that. Like, it's Redford. But like, in the novel, and then in Laurman's version, like, it had like an other world leaf. It was bigger than life. Yeah.
[01:11:35] Like, Gatsby was like bigger than life. Yeah. Everything was like, you know... And so when, like, they were in the ghetto, like, it was like, it felt... Because Gatsby was like... That lakeshore was like so much. Yeah, yeah. And like, everything else was like so run down. Like, when, you know, it was... I think it's extraordinarily well done.
[01:12:05] And... Like, I thought DiCaprio is... His Gatsby was so fucking good. You know? Yeah. But it's like one of those odd films that like a lot of people just don't like for whatever reason. Right. But I do. Yeah. You know? I agree. And I will watch... Again, Baz Laurman is a guy. Like, I know he... I haven't seen the Elvis movie yet. I do want to see that. Right. But, I mean, Baz Laurman just... He brings it. Like, every time he...
[01:12:35] Well, I shouldn't say every time. There have been some rare exceptions. That Australia movie was pretty fucking bad. But it looked beautiful. It did. Yeah. Yeah, it did. He shot the shit out of that movie. But it wasn't very good. Yeah. But usually, if you want... If it's a Baz Laurman movie, like, I'll... I'm there. Yeah. Yeah. Mulan's a really good movie. Yeah. Good story. Kept moving. There was no lull in the action.
[01:13:06] You know what I mean? Yeah. The storyline, the love story was good. Yeah. Yeah. It was just real good. Yeah. And the ending is so fucking good. Yeah. Like, everything that happens in the end of that movie. And it's just like... Oh, it's... He crescendoed it. And that was, like, one of the biggest things. Like, he had... Like, the whole movie was just, like, you felt like you were on the edge of your seat. Like, with the two of them. Right.
[01:13:36] You know what I mean? Yeah. And this big crescendo at the end. And then she dies. Yeah. You know what I mean? And breaks him. Yeah. Yeah. It's just... It's amazing. And, like, for him to have left and then, like, coming back and, like, you know, it's so well done. Like, it's, like, you know, true love. Yeah. You know? Yeah. It's crazy. Oh.
[01:14:08] Hmm. And he sang the shit out of it. Yeah. For a guy that doesn't sing. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, it was good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think that might have been the movie, like, oddly. Like, that might have been the movie where I'm like, Ewan McGregor's my guy. I know. Like, because he's already done, like, at least two stars. Like, I like him as Obi-Wan. Yeah.
[01:14:34] But that was the movie where I think I was kind of like, Ewan McGregor's my ride or die. Yeah. He sold me on trains, probably. Yeah. As far as his acting chops. Yeah. Like, I mean, he's a good actor. But it was like, like, Moulin Rouge allows me to watch the Winnie the Pooh movie. Nice. Like, and bawl my eyes out at the beginning of that fucking movie. Yeah. Like, you know what I mean?
[01:14:59] Like, and even at the end of that movie, like, I'm still kind of like, like, I have a hard time watching that fucking movie because, like, I'm crying constantly throughout it. Yeah. Like, when he finds, like, when Pooh finds Christopher Robin, I'm like, oh, Christopher Robin. Ooh. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I mean, that movie for me is fucking brutal. Right. You know what I mean? Like, all the way through it, like, I'm just, like, constantly in tears.
[01:15:28] I'm not a big one. You're a big Winnie the Pooh guy. Yeah. But, like, for me, like, I mean, that movie's just. It's rough. It is. It is. It is. He was good in Big Fish. Yeah. I like that movie. It's a good movie, but, like. It's artistic. Yeah. But, I mean, it's still a good movie. It is. Like, I mean, that's, like, I hate to say, that might be the last really good Burton movie. Oh, what I did watch.
[01:15:59] Speaking of Burton. Okay. I watched the first Pee Wee episode. Oh, the documentary. Yeah. Yeah. Fucking fantastic. I gotta watch that. It's the first. It's like a series, I guess. I thought it was one thing. No, it's like two. I think it's, there's two episodes at each, like, an hour and a half, hour, 40 minutes. It's fantastic. Yeah. It was fantastic.
[01:16:28] I will just say that. Yeah. Um. You know, I mean, this is, it sounds crazy, but, I mean, like, it explains so much. Yeah. It goes into, he did very well in not only interviewing Pee Wee Herman. Yeah. I forget the guy's name. Paul Rubens. No. No. The guy that did the interview. Okay. Who directed it. Yeah.
[01:16:57] Who devised it all. Yeah. He's a popular director. Anyway, I felt like, at least in the first episode, Pee Wee's story was being told. Does that make sense? Yeah. Yeah. Like, of who he was as a human being.
[01:17:27] Because he was always in character. Yeah. Very rarely did you see him out of character. I think the first time I remember seeing him out of character, and it explains that in this documentary. Yeah. Was probably Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If I'm thinking right. Remember Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Yeah. Oh, yeah.
[01:17:56] Pee Wee Herman. I think before that. You're probably looking at Batman Returns. Really? Because he was the Penguin's father at the beginning of the movie. Okay. And that was like right after the incident.
[01:18:25] I'm sure that's going to come in the second part of the series. But, I can't find it. But, like, Tim Burton, because he was ostracized. You know, Pee Wee's Playhouse was shut down. Everything was like, you know, he's untouchable. And, like, Burton came to him and was like, do Batman. Yeah. Like, I'll put you in.
[01:18:54] And Ruben was like, I don't think that's a good idea. I'm toxic. He's like, I don't give a fuck. You're my friend. Yeah. You know. Cool. Yeah. Right. But, anyway. It starts, I mean, like, it's all this interview process. Yeah. And Pee Wee talking. And then flashbacks and pictures. And, like, Pee Wee dug out. Paul Rubens dug out all his shit. Yeah. Like, pictures and playbills. Yeah. Like, all this stuff.
[01:19:24] And how he came to the character of Pee Wee Herman. Yeah. Yeah. Because I was always a fan of Pee Wee Herman. Yeah. And I don't care if he jacked off in a movie theater. Yeah, neither did I. I did not at all. Yeah. Because I thought the character was so cool. And people forget that when Pee Wee Herman first started out, especially when HBO signed him on. Yeah. It was a very adult show. Yeah. It was not a kid-friendly show, really. In all honesty, Pee Wee's Playhouse was not kid-friendly. Like, it was like, in all honesty. Yeah, yeah.
[01:19:54] You know what I mean? But, like, you gotta remember some, I mean, there were some power players on Pee Wee's Playhouse that got their start there. Yeah. Florence Fishburne. I mean, there was a lot of people on Pee Wee's Playhouse that was... Yeah. You know what I mean? Oh, no, I agree. But, um... Also, I think he was Paul Rubens in Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke. Yes, he was. Yeah. Yeah. That was probably the first movie. Yeah. Well, that was the struggling actor part. Yeah. Right? Right.
[01:20:24] And that was mentioned in the thing, too. Paging Mr. Harmon. Yeah. Mr. Harmon. But it went through... I think we ended... I think it ended on... It went through the Tim Burton thing, because Tim Burton did Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Yeah. And that was a young Tim Burton. He had done a Frankenweenie. Yeah, I think that was, like, his first major movie. Yeah, it was. Yeah. And their relationship and how it took off. But, um...
[01:20:57] It was just... It was really good. I mean, it was just really good. It went into his... His love life and being gay and then... Yeah. And then... And then, like, from the businessman's side, he shut that shit all down. Yeah. And focused on his career. Yeah. And didn't do anything with anybody. Yeah. Just to focus in on him and his career. It's really good. I mean, I give it five stars. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:21:25] I suggest it if you're a Pee Wee Herman fan. Yeah. Or a Paul Rubens fan. Yeah. It's really good. And it goes into the depth of why he just stayed Pee Wee all the time. Yeah. Like, when Letterman had him on. Yeah. He came on as Pee Wee Herman. All the time. Because he had regular spots on Letterman. Yeah. MTV. MTV Awards as Pee Wee. Like, you know, it was always Pee Wee. And he stayed in character. Yeah. It was crazy.
[01:21:55] It was. It was absolutely nuts. And he was very, he was really good friends with, oh my God. He killed himself. Phil Hartman. Phil Hartman. Yeah. I mean, Phil Hartman didn't kill himself. His wife did. His wife killed him. Yeah. I'm sorry. But anyway. That was huge. Yeah. Their relationship was huge. They started from underground roots together. Yeah. Like, in the, in like. The groundlings and shit. Yeah. Correct.
[01:22:25] And it was just, it was amazing. It was. It was amazing. Phil Hartman was the original genie. Yes. Correct. Yeah. And, no, he was the pirate. Oh, okay. I thought he was the genie for some reason. No. That genie stayed. He was, he was there. I think the genie was original. All the way through Pee Wee's Playhouse. Same thing with Miss Lorraine. Yeah. But, um. Phil Hartman was the pirate. Okay. Um. On.
[01:22:55] Yeah. Yeah. But, um. Yeah. It was great. I can't wait to watch the second part. Yeah. You know. But, um. Yeah. I was always a huge fan of, um. And I, and I still think to this day. I think Pee Wee's Playhouse is a masterpiece. Done by Pee Wee Herman and, um. Um. Um.
[01:23:25] Oh my God. The director. Tim Burton. Tim Burton. Yeah. I think that's one of his best movies. Yeah. Even as a young. Because I think the real magic of Pee Wee Herman is. You're watching adults. But you're like almost in a kid world. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Like it was very strange. To be transformed into that. Like teleported in. Or whatever you want to call it. Yeah. Into that world. Of like.
[01:23:54] Should he be living on his own? Yeah. You know what I mean? Oh yeah. Like a child. Right? Yeah. And then Francis. Yeah. Like I wouldn't. But I mean like he lives with his dad. He's like 35 years old. Yeah. But he's like eight. Do you know what I'm saying? Like it's a weird thing. Yeah. Like Francis' biggest goal was to get Pee Wee's bike. You know what I mean? Bro. You're like you're. You should be driving Maserati. It was so weird. It was. It is. It's a very weird.
[01:24:23] It's a fucking odd film. Like. You know. He's riding his bike. And the BMX kids are there. Yeah. And he's radical. You know what I mean? But like. It's almost like Pee Wee Herman is their age. But he's not. He's like a full blown ass adult. Yeah. Very weird. Very Spongebob-esque. Yeah. Yeah. You watch Spongebob and you think like. This is like. I know it's a cartoon. But like. I feel like Spongebob is partially based off of Pee Wee Herman. Yeah. In a lot of ways.
[01:24:53] Because it's like. I don't think this sponge should be living on his own. Right. But alone taking care of a snail. Right. You know. Right. How does this. How does the state let this happen? You know. Somebody needs to step in. But it's funny how you see the things that were in like his old stuff. And then it pops up in the show. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like. What did he say in fucking Up in Smoke? Hamburgers.
[01:25:23] Yeah. That's what he said. You know what I mean? But you see that shit in the show itself. Yeah. It was wild dude. Wild shit. And the artist. I found out. Like the artist. The design artist. Behind. Behind. Like Pee-wee's Playhouse. Yeah. Right. Like. Even the set design on stage. When Pee-wee's Playhouse was on stage. Yeah. Before it even made it to. Yeah. You know. Cartoon. Or this HBO series. Before all that.
[01:25:52] Was like this California punk artist. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like he. And like he. Went into. Hardcore punk. And he designed posters. And like. Yeah. Backgrounds. And all that shit. And like. Album covers. And shit. And Pee-wee got him to do this shit. That was. That was all him. Yeah. And he signed on. For. To do the whole set. And everything. That was all that punk artist stuff. Yeah. You know what I mean? Really cool shit. I mean.
[01:26:20] There's a lot of shit that I learned off this first part of this series. Yeah. I was blown away. Blown away. But anyway. I mean that was. I'm glad I remembered that I watched that. Yeah. It was like. Because it's been a couple weeks. But. It was amazing. Yeah. Yeah. It's on my list of shit. Like I got. Like I'll probably watch it. Like next week. Yeah. It's good. Yeah. Yeah. Really good. Talk about someone that came from. Like.
[01:26:50] Struggling artists. Yeah. And made it. Now I think his parents were sort of well off. I mean. And they supported him. Yeah. At the time. You know. Not well off. But probably decent money. Yeah. You know what I mean? But. His dedication to his art form. It was pretty cool. Yeah. You know. You got to respect that. I agree. Yeah. Anyway. So. And it's that funny thing. Like you talk about. Like him like never getting out of character. And I was like. That was the undertaker.
[01:27:21] Yeah. Like Mark Calloway. A.K.A. The Undertaker. Like. Yeah. You never saw him out of character. Right. Walking through the airport. He was the undertaker. Right. Like you know. Like. It was like this odd thing of like. I've seen him in interviews talking about this. Now that he's retired. And like. He's like. But like it's like. You know. To sell that character. Yeah. To make it believable. He had to be that character.
[01:27:51] 24-7. Correct. You know. And I. It's like this. And I can't imagine like. Like with Pee Wee. Stuffing yourself away. Right. To be. Pee Wee Herman. At all times. Yeah. Or like in. In Mark Calloway's case. Like. I can't be me. I have to. Like. Maybe be. Behind. Behind the scenes. Like you know. Well. You know. But. Otherwise. Like he was.
[01:28:20] The Undertaker. When he was in public. At all times. So too. With Pee Wee Herman too. Like. To be this artist. In the. Genre of Hollywood. And stuff like that. You know. Or wherever. In New York. Or whatever. I can't remember where he was at. I'm pretty sure it was California. Yeah. Um. And. And then. All of a sudden. Becoming. Openly gay. Yeah. Right. Living with a man. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? The man dying.
[01:28:50] Eventually. Not with Pee Wee. They had already broken up. But the man eventually died from the AIDS pandemic. Yeah. Right. He was one of the casualties of that. Right. Yeah. So being openly gay. Coming back. And then. Doing this show. And then completely going back into the closet again. Yeah. And shutting off your life. Right. To focus in on this character. To be Pee Wee Herman. Yeah. Right. Not for a children's show. Just to be Pee Wee Herman in this play.
[01:29:20] Yeah. And you know. Other. All this stuff. That's tough. I mean like. It's hard enough for someone to come out. Yeah. But to come out. And then go back in again. Yeah. To hide all that. To make sure that. Yeah. That was a safe zone. Yeah. To come out. You know. That's. Mentally. That's got to be brutal. Like. No wonder you were jerking off in an adult theater. Like. Honestly. Like. I mean. And all. Like. If. And I haven't seen the first part yet. But like. What you're telling me. About him. Is like. Well.
[01:29:50] That makes fucking sense then. Yeah. I mean. Just to shut yourself down completely. Like. Yeah. And to like. Put your feelings aside. For your. Yeah. Art. That's got to be one of the hardest things you. You'll ever do. Right. I mean. I can't even imagine doing that. Yeah. No. Neither can I. I mean. If. I just can't. I. It's just. You know. Especially back then. Yeah. To come out as openly gay. But he knew it would ruin him. Right. At that time period.
[01:30:20] Right. He knew. If it would come out. That he was openly gay. And this. That. And the other. And blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. He would have never. He would have never made it through any of that. Right. And he shut that. Shut it down. In order to. Further his career. Which is a shame. It's sad. Yeah. No I agree. It's. That takes a lot of constitution right there. Yeah. You know what I mean. Like that. That takes a lot. So. Some mad respect right there. Yeah. You know. So. Anyway.
[01:30:50] Watch it. Yeah. No I will. I will. Absolutely. So. I do want to get to two things. Before. Before we get to Thad's email. Mm. I wanted to thank. Let me. Let me find this. There it is. Underground Promotions. They gave us a.
[01:31:15] Get out of that. Because I fucked it up somehow. And come back to it. They gave us a review. They posted this on Twitter. All right. Yeah. And. I'll read it to you. So this is from a couple weeks ago. Oh. We were listening to the Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast episode of Aaron Rodgers Steelers signing. A rowdy blend of sports banter and nerdy tangents.
[01:31:42] Host Sean and Ian's irreverent chemistry fuels a lively discussion of the team's quarterback woes with sharp jabs of overpaid defenses and Cleveland's chaos. Their candid takes on Rodgers' fit, Will Howard's potential, and the Steelers' reverse spending strategy offer niche insights for Pittsburgh fans laced with gritty humor. Tangents on Predator, Killer of Killer, and Aliens drag a bit veering from the sports core.
[01:32:07] The lo-fi production suits the podcast's unpolished charm, capturing the host's passion for local sports and sci-fi. It stands out in a sport genre by weaving pop culture with unfiltered analysis educating listeners on the team's dynamics. And it gave us four out of five stars. Huh. Thank you. Yes. And next, we do have an email from Superfan Thad. Mm-hmm.
[01:32:36] Last week was Superfan Thad's 50th birthday. Oh, wow. Yeah. So we want to wish him a happy birthday. Was there a lot of lube and donkeys involved? Um, I don't know. I wasn't there. I didn't, you know. And was her name Kelly? Yeah. Yeah. Where's Kinky Kelly? The donkey. I miss my donkey.
[01:33:11] On Thad's birthday week, okay, Thad's birthday week and US Open week has passed. This only makes, this, my only make-a-wish is for PNP hosts to sing me happy birthday for my 50th. Well, that ain't fucking happening. Um. Too much money. Yeah. Yeah. Those people sue. Actually, that has gone public domain now. Oh, really? Yeah. But still, not doing it. Um. That did go to the US Open at Oakmont this year.
[01:33:42] Nice. Uh. The Open went all out in logistics. Uh. We parked at Hartwood Acres and was bussed over in a fancy coach bus. Mm. Thank goodness it was not a school bus as I, no, no, no. The ride was comfortable and was not overpacked. As we entered the practice round, we had trophy club access for upgraded food and bathrooms. We had some nice pierogi, brisket, and sauerkraut. That actually sounds good.
[01:34:12] Like, without the sauerkraut, but, you know. Yeah. A pierogi, pierogies and brisket. Mm. Sounds good. Interesting. We had the option for cheesesteaks and lobster rolls. Sounds like a fucking diarrhea test, but go ahead. Yeah. Our toilets flushed instead of the old port-a-shawn. I mean, John. This way you did. I'm not going into that. On Friday, we had regular access. Oh, no. Oh, no.
[01:34:40] Cheesesteaks, pierogies, brisket. Yeah. I can't even imagine. Go. Um. My stomach hurts talking about it. Yeah. Now for the course. The rough was so thick. No. No. No. No. It was a very thick rough. Yeah, I've heard. Yeah. It was like your ball went into the rough and you lost your ball. Wow.
[01:35:09] T-bag extreme. Yes. Um. Nope. Can't talk about that. Nope. Not going there. So, um. Thad did enjoy himself. I will say this. Like, I know I went 18 years ago with Thad. He had, he got, he had tickets to a practice round. Uh-huh. And it was a Wednesday practice round and I went with him. And, uh.
[01:35:40] We walked that fucking course and, uh. That was brutal. Yeah. Like, I was like. Because they, they had just changed it. Oh. Like. The last time, like the time before when they had the U.S. Open there. Yeah. Like, it was criticized for being too easy. And so, like, they yanked out like a thousand trees. Okay. And, and turned it into a links course, which is what it originally was.
[01:36:08] So it looks, when you look at Oakmont, it does look a lot like a, a British open course. Like, it's, like, there, there, there's, there's no real trees in the area. It's just, everything's, like, open around you. Right, right. And, um. Like, it, it was a hot, sweaty, sweltering day when we went and I was sweating my ass off. And I know, I feel like I ruined it for Thad.
[01:36:36] Because, like, once we reach a certain point, I'm like, I am just sitting here. I'm going to watch these motherfuckers just practice putting. You can do whatever the hell you want. Right, right. I'm right here. I am done, you know. And, uh, so I feel like I ruined it for Thad that day. But I did enjoy myself. Like, it was, it was interesting, like, to, like, see the golf course. And I'm sure Thad enjoyed it even more this time around because it's, it, it was so much harder to play. Yeah.
[01:37:04] But, um, that is one of those moments in my life, like, I'll never forget. Like, I, I can say, like, I've walked the course at Oak one. Okay. Didn't play it. But I've walked around it. Right. You know. Right. And, uh, so that was that. But I, we do wish Thad a happy birthday. Happy birthday. Yeah. Um, you know, you're, you're a good friend. You've been listening to us since day one. And, uh, I can't thank you enough. No, I appreciate it. Yeah.
[01:37:35] Even though you're a jag off. Anything you like to add to the proceedings there, sir? No, man, I'm good. All right. Well, remember there are a number of different ways you can reach out and touch us. Hey. Like I said, it's an email like Thad does. Um, you, you write it well and, you know, don't make it so foul that I have to edit it. Uh, that email address is PittsburghNerd at Yahoo.com. Uh, you can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.
[01:38:03] Uh, just search Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast. We're very, very easy to find. And we are on the Tangent Bound Network and the, uh. Weeby Geeks. No. No. We, we, we're on the Weeby Geeks Network. Tangent Bound no longer exists. Uh, we're on the Weeby Geeks Network and the, um, the Podbreed Network. You can see them on Google search and you can find all the other great podcasts they have to offer.
