[00:00:13] Greetings and thank you for tuning in to Dreas Point of View. I am your hostess, Dreya, and in the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. So please make sure that you are following the show at Dreas Point of View on Instagram, Facebook and Threads, as well as on X and Spill at Dreya Point.

[00:00:34] For those of you who have been loyal listeners, you know that Fridays I like to dedicate to a review, be it a book, a restaurant or even a movie. And in today's episode, I will be talking about the popular movie, Michael. Oh my goodness, I could not wait to see this movie because I've been hearing about it for a very long time. It got a lot of good press.

[00:01:02] And as you should all know by now, or if you don't, that Michael himself, the older Michael is being portrayed by his nephew, Jafar Jackson. And I wasn't really familiar with Jafar before this. I didn't know anything about him, really. I didn't know he was a singer. But I do know that he was never an actor. And that's his first acting role. And I'm gonna say, he did very well and deserves some type of nomination for his portrayal.

[00:01:31] Because it is the first and only movie that I have seen multiple times. And as much as these ticket prices cost for these movies to pay to see a movie more than twice is amazing.

[00:01:45] Now, I didn't have the IMAX experience because movies are expensive enough as it is. I couldn't even imagine paying over 20 something. But I did do the, I believe it's called D-Box experience. And that's where you feel the vibrations from the noise or the music.

[00:02:03] So it's like you're actually there. The concert, the videos, you feel every beat, the chair vibrates. And you could control that, you know, you control the speed. But that was the first time I had that experience. And it was crazy because each one of my experience was pretty different. They showed, I mean, by now everyone should pretty much have seen it. I can't imagine anyone who has it. So I might go a little bit more into detail with it.

[00:02:31] And we all know his story. So it's really nothing new. But I will say that the casting was spot on. The casting of young Michael, older Michael, Catherine Jackson portrayed by Nia Long. We had a few surprises in there. Barry Gordy was portrayed by Lorenz Tate. I wasn't expecting him. He was a nice surprise.

[00:02:52] And Dion Cole was in it. He was a nice surprise as Don King. I forgot about Don King. And of course, Coleman Domingo is just, everything he touches turns to gold. So the casting was amazing. The music, the choreography. I felt like I was looking at Michael and listening to him. He had the voice down pat, the falsetto, and the moves. It was just so, so good.

[00:03:21] And the cinematography, everything. I really don't have too much of a fault in it. Okay, there were a couple of things that were left out. It didn't really go too slowly. Like, it moved fairly quick. So there were some things that were left out. Did we need to see each one of those things? We already know his story. We know his story. And that was a lot of people's critiques that it didn't tell a lot.

[00:03:46] I didn't need to see it. I know how it went down. We all know how it ends. We all know what happened. Most of us were alive then. So I didn't need to rehash that. It was mainly a feel-good movie, basically. But I think the next one that comes out is really going to hit some of the parts that most of us diehard fans don't want to see. But I'll be here for that. It was really amazing. I did learn a few things.

[00:04:14] I wasn't aware that Michael still lived with his family during most of his success off the wall in Thriller. Didn't know that at all. Like, I thought he was on his own. So that was pretty interesting. But I definitely, I would see it again. I saw it four times. And the audience each time, they weren't loud as I expected.

[00:04:37] I feel kind of cheated because I saw videos of other theaters and everyone just dancing and singing along and even wearing outfits. I didn't see anything. I mean, I did wear my T-shirt to two of the times. But yeah, I felt cheated. The first time I went, there were only a handful of us. I saw it the day before it came out because that's one thing about being in L.A. You see things the day before the rest of the world does.

[00:05:04] And there were a handful of us in the theater. One lady was talking on her phone most of the time and somebody else yelled at her to be quiet. That was the most action that happened in that. And then the second one, I saw it in a different state. Well, I will say this. I saw it four times in three different states. And the second time I saw it, it was more crowded, but it was still on the quiet side. I'm like, what's wrong with people? Are they asleep? I mean, they may have been like dancing in their seats like me, but at least they applauded at the end.

[00:05:34] I did get that the second time around. Okay. The third time around, not much. That was quiet as well. For some reason, I don't remember that one. But the last time was on Mother's Day and there were a handful of people, two groups of people and the rest of us were singles. And there was not much going on there. So, I mean, I'm assuming that some of them saw it already, but there wasn't much excitement.

[00:06:04] I mean, I feel kind of cheated. But it's almost out on streaming now or it is. I'll see it on streaming when it's free. Like if I'm going to pay to see it, I'll pay to see it again in a theater. I want the whole theater experience before I sit and watch it at home again. I don't know. I'm not ready to watch it at home yet, if that makes sense. But I hope that you can and I'd love to know your thoughts on the movie. And if you would see the second one, thedreya'spointofview.com is where you can leave a review.
