[00:00:14] Allow me to welcome you to Dreas Point of View. I am your hostess, Dreas. In the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. I would like to invite you to follow the show on IG, Pinterest, Threads, and Facebook at Dreas Point of View. You can also follow on Exxon Spill at Dreapoint.

[00:00:36] For those of you who donate things to thrift stores, I'm sure you've learned that they don't take everything. I found a very helpful article on MoneyTalksNews.com that listed 12 things you should never donate to thrift stores, and I would like to share them with you.

[00:00:57] The first thing, which should be no surprise, are the old school TVs or the CRT TVs. Your best option is to call your local recycler instead of leaving it on the curb.

[00:01:10] I cannot seem to shake this cold, so forgive me for that.

[00:01:16] Sleeper sofas is another item that they cannot take. Sanitary reasons as well as weight are two of the reasons.

[00:01:28] I remember needing to get rid of a sofa that was in very good condition. It wasn't a sleeper, but they didn't want to take it, so I wound up leaving it where I was trying to move out of.

[00:01:41] I couldn't, I mean, they wouldn't take it. What was I supposed to do? Car seats and cribs made the list.

[00:01:50] Many of those items have been recalled, so there's no way to know how many car seats were involved in a crash.

[00:01:55] I can't imagine why you would give those anyway. Why not just donate it to someone who needs it?

[00:02:04] There are so many people with kids in need of those, so I can't imagine bringing those anyway.

[00:02:11] Large appliances like refrigerators and ovens can't be donated.

[00:02:16] The labor that goes into taking them, along with unsafe bacteria of a fridge that hasn't been properly cleaned, make the chances slim to none of being picked up.

[00:02:25] I think that kind of goes without saying. I can't imagine buying a used refrigerator or a stove.

[00:02:33] If you have clothing to donate, make sure that it's not torn or stained.

[00:02:38] Basically, if you wouldn't give it to a friend or if you wouldn't want it for yourself,

[00:02:45] if you wouldn't want someone to give it to you, then don't donate it.

[00:02:49] I'm not sure why newspapers and magazines would make the list, but they aren't accepted.

[00:02:56] It's suggested to drop those off at senior centers.

[00:03:01] Or, like me, you can just toss them.

[00:03:04] Fireworks or firearms shouldn't be donated.

[00:03:09] If it can cause harm, it's not accepted.

[00:03:14] You should definitely not try and donate a recalled item.

[00:03:17] You can visit recall.gov before you donate.

[00:03:22] To see the rest of that list, you can look on that site, moneytalknews.com.

[00:03:29] The article was written by Kenton Waltz.

[00:03:34] My positive news story of the day comes from Charlotte.

[00:03:41] Camellia Masunda founded the city's black-owned wine company called Ebony Wine and Spirits.

[00:03:47] Less than 1% of wineries are owned by black women.

[00:03:53] The wine was inspired by her Congolese roots.

[00:03:56] The wine was inspired back in 2020.

[00:04:01] Good for her.
