[00:00:14] Allow me to welcome you to Dreas Point of View. I am your hostess, Dreya. In the next 10 minutes or less, I will be giving you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. I would like to invite you to follow Dreas Point of View on IG, Pinterest, Threads, and Facebook. You can also follow me at Dreapoint on X and Spill.
[00:00:40] If you are a sports girly like myself, then you may be interested to know that there are a handful of sports bars in the US. And I happened to go to one of them recently, not too far from where I live.
[00:00:54] Now I've gone to my share of sporting events and sports bars, and I seldom see women there who are really into sports. Not the case at this bar I went to, and it was refreshing.
[00:01:09] Watch Me Sports Bar, Long Beach, California is the name. And although I didn't get to stay long, I was very impressed.
[00:01:17] The owners are Jax and her wife, Emma. They came up with the idea decades ago, and I'm glad that they did. They were able to open this bar earlier this year.
[00:01:28] Based on the reviews and looking at their page on Instagram, they've been crowded ever since they opened.
[00:01:35] They partnered with the LA Sparks and Angel City FC before opening.
[00:01:42] It's very inclusive. It will let you bring your dogs.
[00:01:47] There are outside sections, an indoor bar downstairs, and there's an upstairs. Not sure if there's a bar upstairs as well.
[00:01:56] When you walk in, there are screens all over the place, so there's no bad spot.
[00:02:02] Now the day I went was to watch the WNBA Finals, and I got there close to the start of the game.
[00:02:12] So, of course, I did not get a seat. Plus, I had an Amazon package coming, so there's that.
[00:02:18] Yeah, get that Amazon package.
[00:02:20] Now, when you walk in, you sign up with the hostess. She puts you down.
[00:02:26] She doesn't really tell you how long the wait is.
[00:02:29] She just marks how many people are in your party.
[00:02:32] And she said, you're welcome to go in, stand up, standing around the bar.
[00:02:39] And that's what many of us did.
[00:02:41] Although I didn't do that for long. I think I stayed for the first half, and then I left.
[00:02:45] Because I wanted to eat, I didn't get a chance to do that.
[00:02:49] And parking was plentiful, because in a shopping plaza, so you don't have to worry about that.
[00:02:56] And outdoor shopping mall, my favorite.
[00:03:01] You, well, I was a little disappointed, because I thought that I would be seated because I was solo.
[00:03:09] But that's probably one of the few times that I never got a seat going solo.
[00:03:17] I had to wait like everybody else.
[00:03:20] And let's face it, after the game starts, you're pretty much on your own.
[00:03:26] Don't think you're going to get a seat.
[00:03:28] And there was baseball going on too.
[00:03:30] You know, the Dodgers were playing.
[00:03:31] So, yeah.
[00:03:32] No, there was no seat.
[00:03:35] The vibe was pretty chill, though.
[00:03:37] But it did get pretty loud.
[00:03:40] It got louder.
[00:03:41] I was actually surprised.
[00:03:44] There were nothing but women working, including the bartender.
[00:03:49] And she, telling you, she was amazing.
[00:03:52] I figured since I probably wouldn't get a seat, I may as well have a drink.
[00:03:56] And I did.
[00:03:57] I had a mocktail called the Sideline Screamer.
[00:04:00] And that was very good.
[00:04:02] My only issue, though, with mocktails is, why do they cost as much as regular drinks?
[00:04:09] I mean, you may as well get an alcoholic drink, right?
[00:04:13] But it was very good.
[00:04:15] And she, whatever her name is, she made it very well.
[00:04:19] The menu was unique because there are, specifically, they have women-owned liquors.
[00:04:29] I can't wait to go back.
[00:04:31] I think I'll go back for a happy hour.
[00:04:33] If you look on their page, you can see the different events that they offer during the week.
[00:04:38] I do subscribe to their email.
[00:04:43] My apologies.
[00:04:44] I follow their page often, so I know what's going on.
[00:04:49] Some of their menu has baseball references, such as In the Mitt and On the Green.
[00:04:54] You can find their menu at WatchMeSportsBar.com.
[00:04:58] And if you're ever in the L.A. area, I suggest that you check it out.
[00:05:02] But let's talk about some of the other sports bars.
[00:05:08] There is one in Minneapolis called The Bar of Their Own.
[00:05:12] There is Whiskey Girl Tavern in Chicago.
[00:05:15] The Sports Bra in Portland, Oregon.
[00:05:19] I hope I spelled that correctly.
[00:05:22] I don't know if this is Sports Bar or Sports Bra.
[00:05:24] I'm sure it's a Sports Bra.
[00:05:25] And Rough and Tumble Pub in Seattle.
[00:05:29] Pretty good for women to finally get their own sports bar.
[00:05:36] My positive news story for the day comes from a woman in Ohio named Natasha Clements.
[00:05:42] She founded a black-owned line of scrubs called Nurse Couture.
[00:05:47] Natasha has been a nurse for 20 years and designed a premium quality clothing that includes chic activewear and functional clothing.
[00:05:55] It can be purchased online and ships across the U.S.
[00:05:59] She said that she's planning to expand the line to cater to the busy lives of nurses.
[00:06:04] Natasha says,
[00:06:06] We're redefining how nurses view their work attire,
[00:06:11] ensuring that comfort, style, and empowerment are woven into every thread.
[00:06:17] She has plans on a Nurse Couture Scholarship Program that will help reduce the financial strain of going through the nursing program.
[00:06:24] For more about this trend-setting line, you can go to shopcouture.com.
