[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: If you are a fan of disco, then you may know who I'm speaking about.

[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_00]: There was a documentary on Max that talks about the Queen of Disco.

[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Born Donna Adrienne Gaines, but known professionally as Donna Summer, is who I'll be speaking

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: of the next few minutes.

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Dreas Point of View, I am your hostess, Drea.

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Now I grew up on disco music, especially Donna Summer.

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It was always played in my house.

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I remember my dad having all of her records and I watched a TV show special, TV special

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: about her.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was always fascinated by her.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: It was something about her eyes and her big hair.

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: You know as a kid I didn't know much about her except that she was from Boston.

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But I learned so much from this documentary and I'm glad I got a chance to see it.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: She modeled in Europe.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It was just surprising.

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: She was gorgeous at the longest legs.

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: She was not only a singer but she was also a painter.

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, a serious professional painter.

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: She was actually in the musical Hair in Germany.

[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: They had a lot of at-home movies which was pretty cool to see.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It showed a lot of old pictures and there were even voiceovers of Donna speaking which

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: was I don't know it was almost surreal.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: She's no longer here but she still gets input on her life basically.

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Her daughters spoke about her and one of them I believe Brooklyn was the co-director.

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I learned that she was molested by her minister and one of her daughters was molested as well.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: The documentary talked about her relationships and they seemed, well they didn't seem, they were just very volatile.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_00]: And like most music documentaries this one was pretty sad.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It was very telling but it was just very, I'm not going to say it was totally dark

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: but I really just felt bad for her.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like she was sad so much of her life.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: She actually wound up winning five Grammy awards as well as six American music awards.

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_00]: She was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame post-humansly in 2013.

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I've got a problem with post-humans awards.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I just think that everyone should, and I know she got her flowers but it would have been nice for her to be alive to receive that honor.

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: She actually, her video for the song She Works Hard for the Money was the first video by a black woman to be shown on MTV.

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And I remember watching it over and over again.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It's very good documentary I think.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So if you were a fan of her or disco music you have to see it.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: If you have seen it I would love to know about it at Dreya's Point of View at yahoo.com.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: She actually passed away from lung cancer in 2012 which was the same year that Whitney Houston passed and ironically my mom.
