[00:00:43] You read it right.

[00:00:45] I came across a documentary

[00:00:49] about this duo and I could not wait to watch it on Paramount Plus

[00:00:56] because I was a fan

[00:00:58] until I learned what

[00:01:02] they did.

[00:01:03] But it's just interesting to know the behind-the-scenes stuff

[00:01:08] about it. And this is a very good movie if any of you or documentary if any of you have

[00:01:15] were a fan could not wait to review the Milli Vanilli documentary. And it's crazy because

[00:01:27] they took the fall and it wasn't entirely their fault.

[00:01:34] Welcome to Dreas Point of View, I am Drea,

[00:01:36] host of the Short Form Podcast. And I would love it if you would follow the show at Dreas Point of View on IG, Facebook, Pinterest and Threads

[00:01:44] and at Dreas Point on X and Spill.

[00:01:50] Okay, so

[00:01:51] of course it starts off talking about the history how

[00:01:56] they met, they were

[00:01:59] not Robin Fabb or their names and

[00:02:03] ones in Germany, ones in Paris, they met in

[00:02:08] Munich, both wanted to be successful and

[00:02:12] they definitely had the looks.

[00:02:14] But of course their English wasn't

[00:02:17] up to par. They ran into or came across this producer,

[00:02:26] Frank and

[00:02:27] can't remember his name offhand, last name, but I don't really don't even want to say his first name.

[00:02:35] The guy is just so he puts the two of them together and

[00:02:41] he

[00:02:43] likes their look but he doesn't want them to

[00:02:47] sing on their first song that came out. He didn't want them to sing and

[00:02:55] they were like, well that was kind of weird they want to sing but yeah

[00:02:58] he insisted that they did not sing so they're like okay the one song not a big deal

[00:03:03] will do it. They signed a contract which they did not read. See that's the downfall.

[00:03:08] So I blame them for that, not reading a contract.

[00:03:12] So

[00:03:14] now let me back it up a little bit and I kind of wish they would have did the research on this guy

[00:03:18] because apparently he did the same thing to some guy or group Boney M, which I've never heard of,

[00:03:24] having everyone thinking that

[00:03:27] he's doing the singing and it wasn't him. So

[00:03:33] yeah, they go on this they do that song and then

[00:03:38] after that they were like okay

[00:03:40] no but then they realized that there was a contract where they had to do

[00:03:47] more than this that one song and not sing. So they hired these people,

[00:03:55] white background artists and black singers to sing their parts and

[00:04:00] apparently not many people, no one knew like we didn't know the fans didn't know

[00:04:05] not many people knew what was going on but he knew the whole time he was making money out of them

[00:04:12] it told about

[00:04:14] it also talked about one of them and I should really remember the name. I believe it was

[00:04:23] Rob

[00:04:25] and it talked about his childhood a lot

[00:04:30] and how he

[00:04:32] the woman with the green eyes

[00:04:35] and

[00:04:38] he

[00:04:40] basically wasn't really he was you know, he was adopted and he was just looking for

[00:04:46] attention and fame and a celebrity. So

[00:04:51] they really just wanted the fame they really wanted it and so they kept going on with the facade

[00:04:59] you know, they kept getting greedy and enjoying the high life and

[00:05:04] it just really things that spiraled out of control and

[00:05:09] you know, they were at that

[00:05:11] concert where

[00:05:13] the music just kept going over and over and so people found out eventually as we all know

[00:05:18] that people found out that they weren't legit and they went on interviews and they could barely speaking the show

[00:05:24] they know it wasn't them

[00:05:26] and

[00:05:27] the crazy thing was

[00:05:30] well somewhere in between there they wanted to get out

[00:05:34] they wanted to get out of the contract and threatened

[00:05:38] Frank but Frank wasn't having it. He got scared so he eventually outed them

[00:05:44] and

[00:05:45] the crazy thing is and I don't know how

[00:05:49] Clive Davis

[00:05:51] managed to get mixed up in it somehow

[00:05:53] claiming he had no clue

[00:05:55] that they couldn't say

[00:05:57] which I find very hard to believe and

[00:06:01] they also weren't mentioned. Crazy thing is they showed one of the first album

[00:06:06] Robin Fabs name weren't even on it. Everybody else's was

[00:06:11] so they like

[00:06:14] I can't believe people were just this naive

[00:06:19] finding it hard to believe who didn't know what

[00:06:21] so

[00:06:23] but yeah, they managed to perform at the Grammy Awards

[00:06:27] even after everyone knowing that they're fraud

[00:06:30] but they eventually had to give it I mean they had to give the Grammy back

[00:06:34] but

[00:06:34] yeah, so after all of that

[00:06:37] they

[00:06:39] went on to

[00:06:42] they still wanted to sing so they went on to record their own

[00:06:47] which flopped. I think it only sold 2000 copies. I don't even know they tried to have their own

[00:06:53] album

[00:06:54] and meanwhile

[00:06:56] Frank recorded an album with some other people called the real Millie Vanilly

[00:07:01] and the two white background singers

[00:07:04] left them out of it

[00:07:06] because they didn't go with the look of everybody being black so he just kept doing it. He did it before Millie Vanilly

[00:07:12] he did it after Millie Vanilly

[00:07:14] and pretty much just got a slap on the wrist. I don't even know what he's doing now but it's

[00:07:20] yeah left those two

[00:07:21] Robin Fabs to be

[00:07:24] yeah, the scapegoats and made jokes of and it was really just

[00:07:30] yeah

[00:07:30] it was really a horrible story horrible story and

[00:07:35] and then you know when that album didn't do well

[00:07:39] then

[00:07:41] I want to say that they just they just split and they stopped speaking to one another

[00:07:46] and

[00:07:50] it just

[00:07:50] you know they showed the press conference about them after the fact

[00:07:55] and

[00:07:58] yeah, it was it was just really

[00:08:01] an interesting

[00:08:03] thing to see

[00:08:05] to see the story the

[00:08:07] background of it

[00:08:08] they had the singers and their actual rappers talking about how it went down how

[00:08:14] no one could record together everyone had to record separately and

[00:08:18] Robin Fab weren't at any other rehearsals and

[00:08:22] so no one really knew anything it was just

[00:08:27] insane to me and then

[00:08:31] Rob

[00:08:32] I believe

[00:08:34] I got the names mixed up and that's horrible, but the one the green eyed one

[00:08:39] he

[00:08:40] got on drugs

[00:08:42] serious drugs

[00:08:44] and

[00:08:45] He actually he went in and out of rehab so many times which I was unaware of

[00:08:50] but eventually

[00:08:53] Was found alone in a hotel

[00:08:56] after

[00:08:58] overdosing

[00:08:59] while

[00:09:00] the

[00:09:02] other one

[00:09:03] is went on to become a family man

[00:09:06] and trying to get his singing career back

[00:09:10] so it's definitely worth a watch if you were a fan

[00:09:14] back in a day

[00:09:16] and it's I noticed no one else tried to do that stuff

[00:09:20] by

[00:09:21] having everyone the whole world thinking that they were actually singing

[00:09:25] when they weren't but

[00:09:28] Frank is really the biggest

[00:09:30] victim of

[00:09:31] Not victim. I'm sorry. The biggest culprit out of everyone. I'm not saying that they were innocent

[00:09:38] but

[00:09:39] Because they could have just not done it or they I don't know they could have gotten out of it sooner. I think

[00:09:44] but

[00:09:45] Yeah, I'm just not buying that new one new

[00:09:48] That they weren't

[00:09:50] Like how do you have people performing your band?

[00:09:53] But you don't have them

[00:09:56] Hey, yeah, it was really just a circus, but I highly recommend it if you have paramount plus it's probably on youtube as well to

[00:10:05] Check it out
