[00:00:18] Find out more at podbread.com For those of you wanting to experience the calmer side of travel, I recently learned of a term called quietude. Since traveling is my love language, I thought that I would research this topic further.
[00:00:57] This type of travel focuses on a slower pace instead of doing everything one after another like I tend to do. Welcome to the short form podcast Dreas Point of View. I am your host is Drea. I invite you to follow me on IG, Facebook, Pinterest and threads.
[00:01:19] You can also follow me at Dreas Point on X and Spill. So what is quietude? That's when you're looking for a quiet space to relax and reconnect. No noise. Just peace. You're also looking to dive into an experience and walk away impacted.
[00:01:41] There is fast-paced travel and then there's slow. So if you're a fast-paced traveler like myself, you have a long list of things to do and see each day. You have an itinerary planned out for the whole day. Those that usually do this have high energy.
[00:01:59] If slow travel is more your speed, no one intended, then you prefer a book on the beach staring at the water. It can also involve taking a yoga class in a rain forest. It's a relaxing way to travel.
[00:02:19] Now with me, I may take a book on the beach at home. I'm not going to do it somewhere else. I may still go to the beach but yeah. Going to the beach is relaxing enough. I don't need to bring a book.
[00:02:32] There's no right or wrong way to travel although slower travel has a better impact on your mental health. Slowing down allows you to self-reflect. It also helps you try new things and see what resonates with you. It gives you a chance to connect with people.
[00:02:52] Someone suggested taking a class or a niche tour. To me, I never stay long enough for that. I mean I'd rather sightsee but then there are the niche tours. Quiet to travel can help establish routines. It gives you more time to relax.
[00:03:11] You would think the whole point of going on vacation is to relax but I use that time to either visit people or take in a city. I can relax at home. How can you add quietude in your plans? Try a retreat.
[00:03:28] I read about some wellness retreats and they are definitely on my bucket list. I'm going to see how that goes. You can choose a destination that is calming like the Caribbean. Add some quiet activities so you can leave more fulfilled. Don't overfill your itinerary.
[00:03:53] This is how I know quietude isn't for me because I love to get the most out of my vacation especially if I'm traveling far. I'm not going to be a quietude.
[00:04:04] I'm going to be a quietude and since I'm paying for it, if someone else is paying for it, I might feel the need to relax. In a short period of time like my vacations usually are on my dime, I want to do as much as I can.
[00:04:21] Quietude is about being present and mindful. Is that the type of vacation you prefer or does it depend on the location? You can find me on Facebook at 3fidreas. My positive news story comes from Bark Air.
[00:04:37] Bark Air is the world's first luxury airline for dogs and their owners. You knew it was coming. I'm glad it's here. Dogs have taken over the skies. These airports are like dog parks. That's all you see, all shapes and sizes.
[00:04:54] Most of them on leash, they are like dog parks. Most of them on leashes, not even in a bag. I was okay when they were the little puppets that go into the carriers. But now it's insane.
[00:05:09] Everybody is bringing their huge dogs as big as kids on these planes and it's insane. I get some are emotional support. Others are service animals but you can easily buy something to buy labels. Let's just say that. I fly often and I've seen some things.
[00:05:35] It's nice to know there is an airline that caters to owners and their dogs. Hopefully this airline is still around by the time this episode comes out. I did read something about it already and it hasn't been out long.
[00:05:47] The airline was created by dog toy company Bark along with a jet charter service. The inaugural flight was between New York and LA and it sold out. No news there. The average cost for a domestic flight is $6,000 one way. For international, it is $8,000.
[00:06:07] I wonder what this airline offers. It better offer showers, grooming and everything else to cost that much. I definitely wouldn't pay that much for myself alone bringing my pets. I do wish more people would take advantage of it though. Because like I said, these airports now are crazy.
[00:06:29] I do like dogs but not everywhere I go. Especially when you can't control their bark or their bite. If you enjoyed this episode feel free to leave that review on my website
