[00:00:22] I was talking to my coworkers the other day about taking naps, and was surprised that so many don't take one.

[00:00:49] They don't get much sleep, and they really don't sleep well at all.

[00:00:55] Fortunately, that's one problem I don't have.

[00:00:58] I saw a couple of articles about naps and the right times to take them, so I figured why not share it with my listeners?

[00:01:43] According to an article in myoclinic.org or mayoclinic.org, there are many benefits to napping.

[00:01:52] You can be more relaxed. I know I am, but I definitely need more than the 10 minutes that they suggest.

[00:01:59] They can improve your alertness. They can improve your performance and increase your reaction time.

[00:02:05] Naps can also improve your mood.

[00:02:08] According to WebMD, they are better than caffeine.

[00:02:12] They can bring better memory. The longer you nap, the better.

[00:02:19] Naps are good for your heart. Those who nap for up to an hour had low blood pressure.

[00:02:25] They can make you more creative.

[00:02:28] REM sleep activates part of your brain associated with dreaming.

[00:02:34] Naps can help young kids. Children are better able to remember things that they learned.

[00:02:40] I remember taking naps when I was in kindergarten and that was my favorite part of the day next to snacks.

[00:02:47] The best way to nap is to create a restful environment with a comfortable room temperature.

[00:02:54] I know many people love to have their rooms freezing cold.

[00:02:58] Not me. Making the area quiet helps also.

[00:03:05] It's suggested to keep a nap between 10 and 20 minutes.

[00:03:09] The younger you are, the longer your nap can be.

[00:03:13] Early afternoon is the best time to take it. That's usually when I'd take mine.

[00:03:18] Napping after three can interfere with your sleep schedule.

[00:03:23] After your nap, it's recommended to jump right up instead of scrolling or laying in the bed.

[00:03:29] There's an article on CNET.com that says to splash cold water on your face.

[00:03:35] Drink some water or listen to music.

[00:03:38] I prefer to drink water. Light stretching is also an option.

[00:03:44] There are also downsides snapping. It can give you a problem to sleeping at night.

[00:03:52] It also makes you feel groggy afterwards. I usually get that.

[00:03:57] Whatever you do, listen to your body.

[00:04:00] If napping works for you like it does for me, then continue to do so.
