[00:00:00] We're the winners first here in the game, alright? and any other tips we recommend for anyone just starting it. Because at this rate, everyone's doing it. Their cousin and Normandy is doing it. Yeah, or at least they can. I mean, if me and the rest of the month will be full together, I'll podcast, anybody can do it. Absolutely. And I love how you guys learn it once while getting deep and remind each other how you even start this.

[00:01:42] It's like we were all fans of the movie, Kingpin.

[00:01:45] We had this kind of humor and this utter references. is out. Oh, even more fun when it wasn't that they were impossible to work with. It was that somehow they all said the same thing, but they weren't speaking the same language. I love it when it lucky. So that that that is way just as evenly as, that's not way at all. But but we also weigh like, you know, somebody's critic

[00:04:21] score. It's the same as their box office score. So if you have somebody that I don't know, people that like these random actors. Yeah, I don't, I don't, we're not trying to make any money off this. We're not, we're not trying to do anything except just enjoy movies with each other and, and hang out. And so hopefully, you know, the fans of John Slattery will listen to it. And even if they disagree with us over saturated again to where I really am convinced it's just marketing. And it's funny you bring up who's listening because half the time that feels like they're trying to, everyone, every other person's insecure going, oh well, you gotta do this or that. Like, or maybe you can do that, we can do this.

[00:07:02] Yeah, you know, I think, you know,

[00:07:04] the interesting thing about all of this, I mean, whatever you do you. Yeah, and you know, back in, man, I'd say the, well, I don't know, maybe the 90s, you know, that used to be such a compliment when you would say like, man, he's like a, he's like a Bruce Willis type of actor. Yeah, that's like a Tarantino type of movie.

[00:08:21] Like that was a real compliment.

[00:08:23] And now it's like, laborer love instead of a forced homage. Yeah, for sure. And it's almost like, and you talk about the critical divide, that same thing is in that

[00:09:43] homage of like, it's so easy to fall on one side or the other, like, oh man, they're just

[00:09:48] trying to. like, okay, we're coming up a little short on substance here. We need like 10 more minutes of an intro here. One more trivia here. You know, I think for us, most of the actors we look at have such a deep, like they just have such, you know, like 30, 40, 50 years

[00:11:03] in the business.

[00:11:04] And so we're never a little inconsistent after a while A lot of those times it's when that when you first got introduced to that movie, you know that the time and place For some reason I'm locked something like they have some rom-coms. I'm just not generally a romantic comedy person

[00:12:21] But there's some that I'm just like it just hit me at the right caught that at the right time at the right place in my life

[00:13:26] Yeah. And all of those, I think all of those projects that are end up being good or bad, people get tricked into GoWell, it was because they had this amount of gore,

[00:13:31] they had this many jokes, but they had this much new...

[00:13:34] The content versus the content.

[00:13:36] But it's all substance.

[00:13:38] And so those well-written shows are good.

[00:13:40] I mean, it doesn't matter how good an actor is.

[00:13:42] If it's a poorly-written project, it's a poor project.

[00:13:47] Oh, absolutely. just like anything. It's a matter of, do they know how to communicate that other than it sucks? I kind of just go back to the essay format, tell them what you're about to say, say it, and then reflect on what you just talked about. Boom. Yeah.

[00:15:00] And I think one of the things about having a group podcast, while it's,

[00:16:03] market it and organize to where you're just like, I'm not really hearing their voice anymore.

[00:16:06] Does that go back to the old school? Like, what would they do?

[00:16:11] They would like,

[00:16:13] Oh, they show movie to people. Now they show a movie to people

[00:16:17] and then they get feedback from them. Oh, yeah. Test audience.

[00:16:21] No. Oh, yeah. It's something like that for your screenings.

[00:16:24] And half the time they don't even tell them what it's about.

[00:16:26] And it's like, well, that might at some of the Texas based podcasts, I'm actually really intrigued how there's progress Texas, which reflects on progressives in Texas. There's a bunch of wine and true crime and even just other topical ones that are here, but not so many geeky ones. Yeah.

[00:18:44] Why not just stop the pranks and just do a legit, I need your take on this.

[00:18:46] That's funny.

[00:18:52] It is the, and pardon my ignorance, but is the patreon, I know I've heard like comedians that have that.

[00:18:54] Are there like true, just podcasts that are well known that also do a

[00:18:57] patreon account?

[00:18:59] I have seen a lot of different movies and TV ones.

[00:19:02] I'm really impressed by the music score ones because often it just means it was

[00:20:08] one. Five to the next bucks a week. Speaking of music, there's apparently a world of Texas music podcasts, which interviews recording artists and record producers and engineers. So that

[00:20:13] would be interesting. I will have to check that one out. My, my feed I'm looking at is on FeedSpot.

[00:20:20] So I think that's cool. But all throughout the deep, deep dive stories cause sometimes they'll use a very unusual attention getter.

[00:21:42] And you're like, I don't know why that works

[00:21:45] compared to someone else who would probably just be ussing And more often than not, do you find everyone's pretty much willing to do a collab? I very rarely get ones who are kind of like, yeah, we don't really do that or we're shy. Yeah, I think so. I think the, you know, the only like, you know, the only concern is just always like, well, I don't really know anybody.

[00:23:01] You know, I don't really know them. I don here. Yeah, I think one of the cool things that are interesting for me

[00:24:20] as it relates to the podcast fascination is a lot of. And yeah. But yeah, NPR, I think, is a good, everyone should listen to NPR. Even if you don't agree with the commentary, you should still just listen to just formatting. And it's like, how do they get in and get out? You know, because...

[00:25:41] It's always, you know, we talked about writing earlier.

[00:25:45] I wouldn't say it's well dig in, it's Brentfist Time. Listen at Brentfist.com, Apple Podcasts, or wherever fine podcasts are found. Do you ever find yourself thinking about who would win a fight between Goku and Superman? Hi, I'm James Gavsian on The Who Would Win Show, me and my co-host, Ray, ignore anything important happening in the outside world,

[00:27:00] and debate fictional battles between characters from comics, movies, and video games.

[00:27:04] We've got a new show every week, and almost always, am I the winner?

[00:27:07] Yeah, not true, Ray. Random Horror Show. Welcome. Hey. Hey. All right. So, we've been kind of circling around on storytelling and everything. I would love to hear your side of things. How did you get into podcasting and. Why do you think it's interesting how anyone can do it, but not everyone's cut out for it.

[00:28:21] I mean, the lot of trauma. No, not COVID. Not COVID. I think I think I will. Maybe a few people during COVID. Had a lot of fun because it was less people out there. All right. But yeah, I did kind of start like at the end of the tail end of COVID.

[00:29:44] And. I'm probably not gonna listen to me. And then I start getting people like coming to me and say, like, hey, I listen to you, you're pretty great. Like, oh my gosh, you're crazy. But I feel that way. Thanks, I guess. Yeah, appreciate it. Thank you. No, I really do. I love it that people do say, like, I listen to your podcast and stuff. And I'm like, thank you so much.

[00:31:00] Appreciate it.

[00:31:01] And that keeps me going.

[00:31:02] But it's just not built in for in and everybody

[00:31:05] because when I first got started and it, in it. It is like people will think like, okay, I see this podcast. It's like doing very well, have like all these like listeners and you know, it's monetized and everything else. It takes a lot of work for that, especially to monetize. I like building my stuff organically no crime. And I dug it because these guys were like, it's already true crime alone is already oversaturated. Here's how you become a better true crime podcaster. Connect with the people, don't overdramatize it. And they had just some very helpful pointers that you could point to

[00:33:41] any kind of genre or any kind of radio or podcasts or broadcasting

[00:33:45] formula. I just loved how there's like, and if there's a current

[00:34:43] And how you can avoid being a shithead like those guys. And I'm constantly striving to not be a shithead.

[00:34:48] So you're fine.

[00:34:49] I'll always take assistance in that.

[00:34:52] I guess your growing up was sometimes I would be too much of a smart ass to where I just

[00:34:58] sounded douchey and I just had to stop because I would get riled up when other people would

[00:35:02] do it to me.

[00:35:03] And I was like, well, this split a fan base this topic? Why was this a historical monument other than the history books and Wikipedia page claiming it as, you know? Yeah. Well, to throw some light at that, you know, or an example of that, Cam, it's shocking to me. We've covered probably, I would say at least a half dozen,

[00:36:25] if not more movies whose release date was affected I think it's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing. It's a really good thing.

[00:37:41] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:42] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:43] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:44] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:45] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:46] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:47] It's a really good thing.

[00:37:48] It's a to not discuss. It'll overlap in some capacity. Sometimes they'll check it out just because of the keyword in it. And then that's where it gets cryptic to me is like, are you listening to it because of gonna be like, you know, you know, you're gonna be like grossed out by it. But like on the main thing of or I talk about a movie, I want to treat it. I want somebody else to experience it. So I usually try to, even if it's, I'm going to watch that movie because it's so bad. I want people to look at it that way

[00:41:43] because as we all know,

[00:41:45] I mean, a massive amount of work goes into making just the recording. You're like, we got off topic there. I need this guy back in the studio. So, you know, you have like all your different budgets, your low budget, your indie budget, you know, all of that right there. But it's still, they put money into this. But I did this review as called The Confessions of a Time

[00:43:00] Traveler Man from like 3000 or something like that.

[00:43:04] And I just literally like trashed the movie.

[00:44:01] bonnet for fun. But invited his colleagues to check it out.

[00:44:03] There you go.

[00:44:04] Yeah, but I wanted everybody to check this movie out.

[00:44:07] I really did because this dude actually did like put a lot of work into it and the budget,

[00:44:13] you know, it was like two, three thousand dollars.

[00:44:15] I mean, the same with like Thanksgiving, what is it like?

[00:44:19] Seven thousand, like seven or ten thousand dollars that this guy.

[00:44:23] Samurai cop.

[00:44:24] But I, but I love Thanksgiving.

[00:44:27] I love Turkey. of the hammer. I think he's another one because he's a family owned business and everything. He always had that mentality. Just be a smartass and make an easygoing v-picture. And I think that's what took me out of so many independent movies was so many people were doing like deliberately bad ones. I'm like, no, no, no, you're missing the point here.

[00:45:43] Getting his in with it. It ran with it.

[00:45:43] Getting back to Thanksgiving. Hey, such priorities. It's also fortunate that a lot of them are on streaming. So you win either way. It's like I don't have to get annoyed. And it's about an FBI agent that's trying to get his kids back. But he can't get a house. So he has to do like he has to go on a steady. So out of the law, you know, to do and get a house and for his kids and stuff.

[00:48:23] And then I got the thinking about the whole plot.

[00:48:26] And I was like, if you're an like, what do you have something to say? And sometimes I'll notice some of those indie films are really rough, because the transitions are just, they're just not very interesting. You're like, Okay, I feel like I'm, this was okay back in the day in the 90s. But now we just don't have that attention anymore. Yeah. You're ripping off heat and

[00:49:43] training day. Okay, this is not gonna last long.

[00:50:42] You get you first. You.

[00:50:43] I'll let you promote your shows.

[00:50:46] Okay, sorry. I was like, huh, you got to forgive me.

[00:50:51] I was like, I was just winning.

[00:50:53] Well, um,

[00:50:56] The Random Horror Show is on Spotify, anchor, if, um, Apple and any, um, you know,

[00:51:04] I can't even talk.

[00:51:06] I'm tired. the uh, months is at the movie podcast. I mean, I just assume it's everywhere. You can find podcasts. I don't actually know. Don Podbean, Spotify. I mean, Spotify, all that, Google podcast. All that stuff. Yeah. I mean, I don't, I've never had anybody come back to me and tell me they've had a hard time finding it. So I think it's, it's wherever you want. And

[00:52:23] if, uh, if you're a fan of actors and a guest and Cam's joined us, what, four or five times now? Yeah, I'm going on that. Yeah, so it's always a good time. It is a deep dive though. I mean, most episodes are over 90 minutes long. So we go from start to current, in some cases, finish for actors.

[00:53:43] And we try to learn a lot about it.

[00:53:45] I was surprised we make it out alive.

[00:53:47] Nice. Somebody there because I'm like, I'm tired of hearing my freaking voice. I need somebody here to like spice it up. I mean, I know how to keep the spicy. I need to like hear. Hi. Well, it's five or different spice at least. A different spice and I started doing a random for trivia questions.

[00:55:00] And I have the most craziest ones.

[00:55:05] You go for some real rarities.

[00:55:07] I'm like, I wonder it wasn't what you wanted. It was their take. Yeah. Well, there's also, we talked about it earlier. There's such a danger of just

[00:56:22] beating something up for entertainment. Yes.

[00:56:23] Too much hate water.

[00:56:24] It's just such a shallow assessment of something. like done like cons to like promote yourselves because I like yeah, I've like connected with some guys in Houston when I went to Houston for the horror, Fest Downer Film Fest. And I was like sitting there and I was like, they're promoting their podcast. I was like, I think

[00:57:42] I need to get I need to do this. So I'm like, okay, I'm inspired by them. I mean, right? But I have like then to before for beauty because I'm been in the beauty industry for like 16 years and I'm also an instructor. So it's a lot of work and yes, I'm gonna have to like drag some mice, ask about two or three of them. People you get your puts right here

[00:59:00] and you help me right now.

[00:59:02] I'm having a lot of fun to do it

[00:59:04] because my son, we did a fashion show

[00:59:06] and he was too busy looking at the women But it's more than 50 cents. So, you know, Podbean had a new thing that I got to check into and see if how that works. But I think they changed the format of linking out with Apple Podcasts. So in fact... Yeah, they have. They really have. And I'm on Podbean too.

[01:00:22] So it does some kind of linkage where it uploads to Podbean.

[01:01:22] I guess they're flat out ripping a Blu-ray onto their hard drive.

[01:01:23] I'm like, that is now that's too much work for me.

[01:01:25] I'm sorry.

[01:01:27] Yeah.

[01:01:27] Just for that one quick audio clip

[01:01:29] that you're gonna repeat on the sound part. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha have some really good high controls out there. Very good hiking shows. I used to do a lot of hiking lots and lots of hiking then till work and just being busy. Nacodoches actually has some good high controls also. There are a lot of good high controls down there too. I will have to check that out.

[01:03:00] Yeah, you do just go down. Oh, we call it nasty roaches, but

[01:03:04] it's actually not. But my al're like, ah, there's a blunning. Yeah. I've seen far too many movies to feel comfortable doing that. There you go. No, like, no, I, you know, I had that fear too,

[01:04:20] but I just was like tossing,

[01:04:23] just like flipping and doing all kind of weird,

[01:04:27] like acrobatic, I'm gonna end up with you guys. Well, can you tell those brains? If there's any just giant event that I know is just within a reasonable distance, I will let you guys know. Even if it's the most mundane thing, I'll be like, hey, that could be interesting.

[01:05:40] Yeah, I'd be interested in checking that out.

[01:05:43] I think there's like a author con that happened this year,

[01:06:46] check out original authors. I like reading books because butterfly in the sky.

[01:06:51] Is it in a book? Take a look. Is it in a book? We're reading random. So yeah, so I'm going to be up there. And I get to meet Christine
