[00:00:00] .

[00:00:26] the yard of war.

[00:00:27] Look for it on video cassette and DVD.

[00:00:32] The dirtiest person is in the world.

[00:00:37] It's a chapter, a review show.

[00:00:40] It's a chapter, a review show.

[00:00:43] Chapter, a review show.

[00:00:52] It's a chapter, a review show.

[00:00:55] It's a chapter, a review show.

[00:00:59] Chapter, a review show.

[00:01:16] Cam back in the house.

[00:01:17] A long time to see Mark, movie geek, rap fan,

[00:01:22] shaver back with the vengeance.

[00:01:25] How's it going?

[00:01:26] I'm a groovy baby.

[00:01:28] Glad to have you back and yeah,

[00:01:30] glad to be back has been a while.

[00:01:33] The second was at least nice franchise we're taking on.

[00:01:37] All right.

[00:01:38] Oh, third, I guess if we count,

[00:01:41] because yeah, we did do it on a speech special day way.

[00:01:44] I'm assuming the first one was blade, right?

[00:01:46] Yes.

[00:01:48] And we did talk to the listen man in the comic book

[00:01:52] that believe or not was actually pretty cool.

[00:01:55] But yeah, this is probably technically the third

[00:01:58] that you could say is a franchise.

[00:02:01] What will do expendable soon?

[00:02:02] Don't give it wrong, but like for like the second franchise

[00:02:07] he has headed out that could have been coming out next month

[00:02:11] already.

[00:02:12] Yeah, I can't believe it.

[00:02:13] Spendables.

[00:02:18] So I was like was always kind of one of my many

[00:02:23] just action stars, like the everyday men

[00:02:26] I watched with all the Harrison Ford's Antonio Benderes

[00:02:29] and just other just 90s and 2000 stars on the big

[00:02:36] and small screens.

[00:02:37] And I would watch anybody whether it was Don Johnson,

[00:02:40] thank you for starting to lend to Richard Dean Anderson,

[00:02:42] to all the other guys who were big shots like Bruce Willis

[00:02:48] and it seemed to end for his brazen and just seemed

[00:02:51] like he was just one of those other guys.

[00:02:53] If you didn't want to deal with Seagull behind the scenes

[00:02:57] and Bruce Willis and Stallone were unavailable

[00:02:59] he seemed to just always come up in the hat.

[00:03:01] Yeah, I mean he's definitely, I mean he's just wanted,

[00:03:07] he's one of those action stars.

[00:03:10] I mean, I would consider him an a-list action star

[00:03:12] but yeah, I would say,

[00:03:14] great comedy and drama.

[00:03:16] I would say like he doesn't have quite as many,

[00:03:21] he could have had more I think action kind

[00:03:24] of action hits under his belt.

[00:03:27] Yeah.

[00:03:29] I mean like more films like Pastry 57 or you know

[00:03:33] stuff like that but the art of war was a good one.

[00:03:36] I mean, that's one I saw in the theater and lucky you.

[00:03:42] You know I bought it when it came out of the HS.

[00:03:47] Sweet.

[00:03:47] It was pretty much by franchise pictures.

[00:03:51] Finally, you know, oh gosh, it's probably five years ago.

[00:03:55] Now I probably finally I upgraded to DVD

[00:03:59] and I've you know I considered buying it on Blu-ray

[00:04:02] but finally it was just like I've replaced so many movies.

[00:04:07] I got the point where I'm like, you know,

[00:04:11] let's just stick with the DVD for now.

[00:04:14] Well, I've been meaning to watch it again.

[00:04:16] I mean I tried to throw a,

[00:04:23] throw an action film on like Fourth of July

[00:04:27] like if I come home after hopefully you can see

[00:04:29] in fireworks somewhere or whatever you,

[00:04:32] I like to usually end the night by throwing on a good action film.

[00:04:35] Just a fun just over the top movie.

[00:04:38] Yeah but this year, I mean I had to work really early

[00:04:41] the next morning still kind of getting used

[00:04:43] to working like earlier in the day so you know

[00:04:49] even then I thought if there's time

[00:04:50] I'm gonna throw that one on but you know

[00:04:53] it's just especially with having kids and stuff.

[00:04:55] It's like it's already midnight.

[00:04:56] Like I gotta get to bed.

[00:04:59] Yeah.

[00:05:00] But, but sooner or later I don't think my wife's ever seen that one

[00:05:03] so sooner or later I gotta say hey let's watch it again.

[00:05:08] Yeah, I'd say so.

[00:05:10] So are you familiar with franchise pictures?

[00:05:14] Well, I've heard of franchise pictures.

[00:05:15] I'm not super familiar with them.

[00:05:17] Is that the one?

[00:05:19] It has like a, I could well be wrong.

[00:05:21] It's like a white logo with like buildings on.

[00:05:25] Yeah, giant white buildings.

[00:05:26] So it long story short they were kind of the Canon films

[00:05:30] Warner Brothers like they were just pretty stuff direct to HBO

[00:05:34] and under the Warner Brothers.

[00:05:36] And they had some good ones like Spartan

[00:05:39] and then they had some infamous ones

[00:05:41] like Blistic X versus Sever and.

[00:05:43] Oh yeah.

[00:05:45] I remember that.

[00:05:46] And Buenas Xanes was a cold hit by them

[00:05:50] so they did a few other ones by Fox and Company

[00:05:52] but then they just kind of faded out

[00:05:54] and Andrew Stevens was kind of the ego maniac producer.

[00:05:58] He had already been an actor starring in sleazy

[00:06:01] and cheesy movies and.

[00:06:04] Basically no one could tell them no

[00:06:06] and they cranked this one out

[00:06:07] and you know, just from like all the electronic music

[00:06:10] and stylized fight scenes

[00:06:11] you're gonna get another Matrix type movie.

[00:06:15] Yeah, I mean, I remember it definitely had

[00:06:19] some flavor of the Matrix thrown in there

[00:06:21] even though it was contemporary set film

[00:06:23] but like the whole scene at the end

[00:06:26] and like the, well I think they were at the

[00:06:29] UN building right?

[00:06:31] Yeah.

[00:06:32] And like the gun play and stuff

[00:06:34] I mean it had like you could tell they were going

[00:06:38] for like kind of somewhat similar to the Matrix

[00:06:46] which in turn, you know, obviously

[00:06:48] owes a lot of debt again to John Woo

[00:06:50] so I mean yeah.

[00:06:52] Anything any early eight 90s cinema

[00:06:54] it's pretty much firing on all fours

[00:06:56] and be movie director Christian DeBois

[00:06:59] who had done stuff like the assignment, screamers

[00:07:04] and scanner films was helming this

[00:07:07] because it was a Canadian production.

[00:07:10] The cinematographer has Pierre Agile

[00:07:13] has done a bunch of stuff especially TV.

[00:07:19] Simon Barry, one of the co-writers

[00:07:22] has gone on to do other sorts of just

[00:07:24] giant Canadian TV shows including bad blood

[00:07:27] and warrior nun and the Van Helsing show and continuum

[00:07:30] but the biggest connection it was

[00:07:32] these snaps here might be Wayne Beach

[00:07:34] who previously wrote a Snipes movie

[00:07:40] murder at 1600 and one reason the Secret Service agent

[00:07:44] and then he did another one a long time ago.

[00:07:47] Yeah, and this is pretty much.

[00:07:49] Recently though that's another one it's like.

[00:07:52] It's another one that divides Snipes fans

[00:07:53] I don't know why I should have had more time

[00:07:55] to watch movies, I mean

[00:07:57] I did too man.

[00:07:59] I could usually sneak in like six a day

[00:08:01] and it was fun but back in the day

[00:08:04] when I was like kid in the summer vacation

[00:08:06] yeah sometimes I'll just watch it five in a day

[00:08:08] but why not man?

[00:08:11] Why not?

[00:08:12] You only get one life.

[00:08:14] So kind of like later sports nigger

[00:08:18] where he would do other movies that people would just compare

[00:08:22] or even lampoon as being derivative of his earlier

[00:08:26] like true lies and Camaro persona.

[00:08:28] This was kind of another one where they're like

[00:08:30] oh he's in rising sun, US Marshall's territory again

[00:08:34] he's both you know it's another East meets West scenario

[00:08:39] where he's dealing with some Chinese triads

[00:08:45] yeah.

[00:08:46] Not Japan but there's still a lot of other stuff

[00:08:49] like there's a big North Korean.

[00:08:52] Jim while sorry I was gonna say it.

[00:08:54] There was almost like James Bond angle at times

[00:08:56] or even like the opening scene reminded me

[00:08:59] of like a mission impossible type scenario

[00:09:02] like a team wasn't like that van something like that

[00:09:05] so yeah got on the tuxedo and all that

[00:09:10] and he's whispering in and he's got kind of a cue

[00:09:12] kind of gadget man and of course

[00:09:17] but we will pretty much just spoil the movie

[00:09:19] because it's really not not cause we want to

[00:09:22] but like it's pretty easy to connect the dots

[00:09:24] but there's a bunch of better like Chinese

[00:09:31] American actors who you've seen in every other kind of movie

[00:09:34] from wind talkers to Olympus's fallen

[00:09:38] and they do their jobs.

[00:09:40] Yeah James Hong from Toronto is the assassinated ambassador

[00:09:45] Kerry Togawa's there again

[00:09:47] there's another rising sun connection.

[00:09:49] Donald Sutherland is another military sneak

[00:09:54] this is pretty much when he's just getting

[00:09:55] typecast in that galore has like got to play

[00:09:57] a shady government guy and

[00:10:01] and Archer from Jack Ryan movies

[00:10:04] and just you know various other just traumas

[00:10:09] just traumas is pretty much who was the woman

[00:10:13] who played the female team member of Westie

[00:10:16] Snipes character.

[00:10:20] I think that's her yeah elder yeah okay

[00:10:26] or oh no she was like younger are you talking about

[00:10:29] the Polish gal?

[00:10:33] Let me see here real quick.

[00:10:34] I wish you the white gal who was with her

[00:10:38] and talking about the she ended up like getting killed

[00:10:41] like you know spoiler alert but again we're

[00:10:44] okay yeah so I have her here as Liliana

[00:10:48] Korobarowski as agent Jena Novak

[00:10:52] so I think that's who that was but

[00:10:55] she's another gal who has done a lot of Canadian

[00:10:57] productions mostly with the same filmmakers

[00:11:00] but Fernando Ching was one of the other

[00:11:03] henchmen you've seen him and stuff like fast five

[00:11:06] and warrior

[00:11:09] and the accountant but

[00:11:13] Laurie Chokin there's another comedic face

[00:11:16] he's doing serious stuff again but pretty much

[00:11:19] Marie Matiko I forgot she was in

[00:11:22] if she was in the Korobarowski

[00:11:23] I remember.

[00:11:24] Yes yeah yeah you are that is the woman

[00:11:27] that I was thinking of.

[00:11:28] No it's like it's a good news

[00:11:30] it's all good so but yeah Mary apparently

[00:11:33] won a AX award and for those who

[00:11:37] wonder what the hell that means it's a

[00:11:41] airport experience award so they rely

[00:11:44] hey she's best actress in a feature film at

[00:11:47] this particular festival so someone won

[00:11:49] an award for this be action film but yeah

[00:11:53] she's done little minor stuff she's

[00:11:54] done a lot of spoof movies TV guest spots

[00:11:58] and

[00:11:59] this kind of one of the disco gals

[00:12:02] of mystery men and

[00:12:04] she pretty much was another one who kind

[00:12:06] of just

[00:12:07] double a lot of obscure stuff once the

[00:12:11] 2010s began but

[00:12:13] she's kind of

[00:12:15] she's not really

[00:12:18] tight cast as a dragon lady but she's

[00:12:20] just kind of one of those where

[00:12:21] she appears in stuff like the corruptor

[00:12:23] with chowy on fad and

[00:12:25] yeah

[00:12:26] and that one they filmed that in

[00:12:28] Toronto I remember that was

[00:12:30] there you go

[00:12:31] Toronto doubled for New York City in

[00:12:34] that

[00:12:37] apparently this was supposed to be a

[00:12:39] jetley movie and I can't find any

[00:12:42] info as to why he passed on it but

[00:12:45] no you mentioned that

[00:12:48] I've totally forgot about that I

[00:12:49] think I remember reading that though

[00:12:52] like a black health magazine or

[00:12:55] I'm interested to learn more about that

[00:12:57] like there's certain little pieces of info

[00:12:59] about jetley out there you know that

[00:13:01] like he made that rise to honor video

[00:13:04] I love that game yeah me too and there

[00:13:07] was like supposed to be a sequel but

[00:13:10] it never happened or whatever but

[00:13:12] it's like weird because I think it

[00:13:14] didn't good business like at that point

[00:13:17] anyone would buy a video game if it had

[00:13:19] their favorite kung fu star uh

[00:13:22] you know rapper or even NBA player in it

[00:13:26] I mean at the time I mean um I thought at the

[00:13:29] time at at least it was probably the best

[00:13:33] you know attempt at recreating like a Hong

[00:13:37] Kong action film in a video game uh

[00:13:41] environment I guess we could save

[00:13:43] Totally especially the attention to detail

[00:13:47] and just even in-game references to other

[00:13:51] movies like what's upon time in China and

[00:13:54] hard-borrowed yeah exactly yeah he has a

[00:13:56] giant there's a Chinese cafe shoot out

[00:14:00] you're like come on you know why do you

[00:14:02] reference and um yeah I think you could

[00:14:04] even unlock yeah you could unlock a

[00:14:07] fist of legend costume and then

[00:14:09] what's upon a time in China there you go

[00:14:12] costume

[00:14:16] this one is totally I mean I was

[00:14:18] it's been well it hadn't been too long but it's

[00:14:20] been a few years but you know I hang on to

[00:14:23] those games so I still throw them on and

[00:14:25] play them once in a while yeah yeah

[00:14:27] the chance stunt master was another one

[00:14:29] that is exactly dude oh my god I mean

[00:14:31] that one's just a lot of fun like I think

[00:14:33] it kind of flew under the radar a little

[00:14:35] bit but my uncle was a big fan of it

[00:14:37] I promise you we we will totally talk

[00:14:39] about those Hong Kong inspired video games

[00:14:41] but uh yeah they'll make for a good

[00:14:44] podcast yeah we've been over due we've

[00:14:47] been meeting to talk about other awesome

[00:14:49] comics now comic books and even just novel

[00:14:53] there's themselves that are based on popular

[00:14:56] TV shows and movies that continued the beloved

[00:14:58] characters journey I mean there's all kinds

[00:15:01] of stuff out there whether it's RoboCop or

[00:15:03] Indiana Jones and speaking of hard

[00:15:06] boiled I mean there was a inspector Tequila

[00:15:08] video game oh yeah stranglehold yeah yeah

[00:15:13] so this is a wild one kind of like

[00:15:15] undisputed was kind of owned by millennium

[00:15:17] films but had different distributors like

[00:15:19] dimension films uh universal and water

[00:15:22] butters this is another one where despite

[00:15:25] franchise being the main money man this

[00:15:28] is a produced by Snipes's Aiman Roth films

[00:15:31] Morgan Creek productions which had done some

[00:15:33] of his other kind of earlier blockbusters

[00:15:35] and then water butters distributes as part

[00:15:39] of their franchise venture deals and then

[00:15:41] the sequel where Snipes returns is a Sony joint

[00:15:45] and then the third one is also a Sony joint

[00:15:47] but instead they decide we don't want to

[00:15:49] brief Snipes back let's bring Treech

[00:15:52] that's right from naughty by nature back into

[00:15:55] the title role and it's weird too because he

[00:15:59] does some other directive video action films

[00:16:01] that feel very much kind of like this or

[00:16:04] mission impossible to where you're just like

[00:16:06] that I would like to just be in the executive's

[00:16:09] room and say how did you make all these

[00:16:12] bizarre B-action movies

[00:16:16] and what was the what was the game plan

[00:16:21] yeah you know he had Treech he made like

[00:16:25] a few kind of you know I guess you're like you

[00:16:28] said directive video action movies which

[00:16:31] gosh not even off I saw any of them

[00:16:34] I got everything one with Steven Seagull

[00:16:38] I almost bought that one by I never did yet

[00:16:41] but one of these days I have to check it out

[00:16:44] and then he did what's that one called like

[00:16:48] uh

[00:16:48] Conor's Wars

[00:16:50] yeah love it a bullet and then but but the

[00:16:52] other spy one he did was called Conor's War

[00:16:54] and I kept seeing that be advertising all

[00:16:56] like the pay-per-view back in the day

[00:16:58] back when pretty much anyone would buy

[00:17:00] anything they didn't care if it went to a

[00:17:02] theater or not

[00:17:05] uh yeah it's it's insane but

[00:17:10] uh what we'll get to those as this goes down

[00:17:13] but as everyone can probably see this kind of

[00:17:16] a decent a-list cast with a B-movie scenario

[00:17:20] and then followed by kind of lowbrow you know

[00:17:24] not really remarkable sequels but um

[00:17:28] where would you rank this as a Snide's movie

[00:17:30] is this just kind of fun like uh

[00:17:34] just more like seconds or thirds versus

[00:17:40] a hundred movie well you know it is definitely not

[00:17:44] thirds uh okay for me at least I mean everybody's

[00:17:47] gonna kind of have their own experiences

[00:17:49] stuff I mean it was

[00:17:54] one of only a few of his that I got to see in the

[00:17:56] theater and I saw blade in the theater the first

[00:17:59] one oh sweet and then the art of war

[00:18:04] and then I don't think it's any more until

[00:18:06] expendables three so I think only three I

[00:18:09] got to check out in theater um and then you know

[00:18:13] it's just it's one of those movies that you

[00:18:15] know it's just kind of like I said I bought

[00:18:18] it when it came out on VHS and kind of

[00:18:20] now I'll definitely watch it periodically and

[00:18:24] it's it's I mean

[00:18:28] it's it's hard to say exactly where I would put it

[00:18:30] I mean it's it's not really um

[00:18:34] like a first wave so to speak yeah

[00:18:38] you wouldn't put it as this worst or anything

[00:18:40] yeah and no way no no it's like it's one of

[00:18:46] it's one of my you know it's closer to my

[00:18:49] favorites than not so yeah uh it's one of

[00:18:53] those where kind of like it reminds me of that

[00:18:57] other sports and a movie eraser and kind

[00:18:59] of any other movie that was trying to be like

[00:19:01] enemy of the state it was just kind of in that

[00:19:03] vein where people would again always compare

[00:19:06] your movie to like all the other Hong Kong

[00:19:08] stuff and say oh it's not as good as this or

[00:19:10] that it's like well it doesn't have to be

[00:19:13] eraser was good I mean that was oh yeah

[00:19:17] that was a good Arnold I mean the especially

[00:19:19] with those rail guns and everything

[00:19:21] um what else can you ask for but yeah um

[00:19:27] this is kind of another one where I just kept

[00:19:29] seeing people say oh it's poor man's James

[00:19:31] Vaughan I'm like well it's not trying to be

[00:19:32] like James Vaughan it's kind of just tipping

[00:19:34] its hat it's I mean yeah you could say the

[00:19:37] same thing about Vin Diesel when he did

[00:19:39] triple X or any other actor who had their

[00:19:42] own spy movie franchise you know it's

[00:19:45] it's just trying to be his own thing while

[00:19:47] acknowledge inevitably that hey we're pretty

[00:19:51] inspired by all these other movies and shows

[00:19:54] yeah I mean it's impossible not to

[00:19:56] got to be inspired you're gonna borrow

[00:20:04] yeah no I don't have any real complaints

[00:20:07] other than that uh the traitor you kind of

[00:20:09] know just from we've just seen too many

[00:20:11] movies so we know instantly Michael Beans

[00:20:14] up to no good yeah but I think that was more

[00:20:17] just he was typecast so if I had any complaint

[00:20:20] don't get me wrong he's very he's having a lot

[00:20:23] of fun as the villain but if I had to change

[00:20:26] it up I would have probably just said hey

[00:20:28] maybe they could have just had there be

[00:20:32] three other people on the spy force so we

[00:20:35] at least had more to pick from yeah yeah

[00:20:40] that's a good point kind of like if you're

[00:20:42] gonna make it a complex chess game

[00:20:46] like original mission impossible where it was

[00:20:48] exactly yeah yeah that was a twist in and

[00:20:56] of itself is like the main mentor is

[00:20:59] the main point yeah he was like the hero of the tv

[00:21:04] series right so right and I mean people who were

[00:21:10] urchins who couldn't put aside their love of

[00:21:13] the show or like no no I refuse to acknowledge

[00:21:17] that and other people are like I don't know man

[00:21:19] that's pretty twisted

[00:21:22] um yeah I mean so Neil Shaw

[00:21:28] he does snipes does get to do some good

[00:21:31] fight choreography here and I still can't believe that this was

[00:21:34] again a few years before born I did an A

[00:21:36] because same kind of deal where heavy attention to

[00:21:41] like how he breathes how he even just crawls up a wall it's

[00:21:46] a very visual themed movie

[00:21:50] it's not just focusing on getting into the next

[00:21:53] fight scene but like there's a bunch of just like

[00:21:55] stealth and yeah

[00:21:58] it seems like that just wasn't enough for audiences it didn't

[00:22:01] make enough money back but that's where I'm also like

[00:22:04] I don't know what they wanted he had like a parachute or

[00:22:09] something right at the beginning scene where he like

[00:22:11] I think he jumped off the building with a parachute right

[00:22:14] yeah yeah that's a good call I totally forgot yeah he

[00:22:18] takes it out of his shoe

[00:22:22] speeds away um if anything uh I feel like some of the

[00:22:27] explosions go on a little too long like everything

[00:22:30] explodes on impact but let's be honest that's just

[00:22:34] the trope of the times back when they thought you

[00:22:36] know if you shoot a gun in a plane that the entire

[00:22:39] side half of it just demolishes you know

[00:22:43] you kind of got to just in action movie terms just go with it

[00:22:47] oh yeah definitely kind of like fun

[00:22:50] but I never understood why people have such an issue with him or Liam

[00:22:54] Niesen and yet they're okay with Harrison Ford jumping off a

[00:22:58] cliff in the fugitive or you know anybody else can do

[00:23:01] that and like well why are they exceptions oh

[00:23:05] they're getting older like well let's kind of part of the formula

[00:23:10] I don't get it uh

[00:23:14] about you I mean where amongst like his other

[00:23:19] you know at least like starring roles in in action films

[00:23:22] stuff I mean I wouldn't put it as top 10 but it would

[00:23:26] probably be in a top 20 list for sure like it's

[00:23:29] going to be up there somewhere just as a fun

[00:23:33] just Sunday night movie I wouldn't put it as a 2 a.m. movie

[00:23:37] but definitely just a reasonable just it reminds me a lot of

[00:23:40] entrapment like that's not going to be number one on my totem pole of Sean

[00:23:44] Connery or Catherine Zeta movies but it's going to be up there somewhere

[00:23:48] after i'm done rewatching James Bond notions 11

[00:23:52] franchise I'm going to be in there somewhere I finally got around to seeing that

[00:23:55] one just a couple years back I mean it was

[00:23:58] it was okay I mean it wasn't yeah that great I mean let's

[00:24:03] be honest I mean it I think no the whole

[00:24:07] and I think well wasn't that seen um I know for sure like you know

[00:24:12] like on the poster and stuff like Catherine Zeta Jones and everything

[00:24:17] that like brown cap suit or whatever it was yeah

[00:24:22] that's a strong selling point

[00:24:25] I remember incorrectly like she didn't even wear a movie you know

[00:24:28] yeah but there was like the scene where she's like you

[00:24:32] know practicing like going under the lasers and all that I mean

[00:24:36] now that is a good point it was definitely at that time where kind of

[00:24:40] this it's still kind of in 60s 70s mode where

[00:24:45] the actors are carrying the movie versus the premise standing out

[00:24:49] and that's kind of where I took it as it's like yeah it's just a fun

[00:24:54] not deep movie not not a talk to me demanding no I mean it was

[00:24:58] it wasn't okay movie yeah totally I it seems like

[00:25:04] we were at that point where we had to remind people you know we can

[00:25:08] you can have your mediocre you know one or two star movies

[00:25:12] and then you can have your great four or five star movies

[00:25:16] but you can still have your in-betweeners the three out of fives the ones

[00:25:19] that you're like yeah it was fun yeah then knock then blow the roof

[00:25:24] off the house but it did it did its job kind of like like street night with uh

[00:25:30] there you go did a win-cow yeah perfect weapon was up there you know

[00:25:36] I mean the B.C. Lister you know what street night was kind of like all right

[00:25:42] you know it was a cool premise totally uh it's worth watching every once in a

[00:25:47] while but it's not like I mean I used to watch the perfect weapon all the time so

[00:25:52] it's not one of those movies where you just watch it right it it was

[00:25:58] it was a innumerable amount of times but the 90s were

[00:26:02] complexity like this is kind of when people would do the whole HBO world premiere

[00:26:07] or oh yeah I saw that it was on showtime all the time or USA Network

[00:26:12] yeah okay and we were kind of this is before

[00:26:17] 2v and Pluto took over where we reminded everyone hey you know there's

[00:26:20] all kinds of just bizarre but fun cult movies you can watch

[00:26:26] yeah I remember I remember buying

[00:26:30] the perfect weapon but I think it was when Hollywood video back in you know

[00:26:35] 20 years ago they were about well they I don't think they were going on a

[00:26:38] business yeah but they were like selling off all their VHS tapes because oh man

[00:26:43] you know this is an old format we need to make way for more DVDs whatever

[00:26:47] they were doing and that's before blockbuster was going out of town and I

[00:26:51] guarantee there was probably a bunch of directive videos Sony movies with

[00:26:56] Van Dam and Snifes on there where you're like I guess I'll buy that now

[00:26:59] I think I bought the perfect weapon VHS from them you know for a couple

[00:27:03] bucks and I thought like for years I thought like hey I've got this

[00:27:08] this great item here because I used to think like oh it'll probably never come

[00:27:14] out on DVD or let alone I think Blu-ray wasn't even a thing yet

[00:27:18] we didn't know what they would do down the road

[00:27:22] but now I got on Blu-ray and that tape is long gone

[00:27:25] yeah we were all kind of into Nile of ourselves I mean we did it with beta

[00:27:30] max we did it with even DVD where you know I still won't see anything wrong

[00:27:34] with today's DVD but at the same time I mean you do it even now where

[00:27:38] you're like do I want the Blu-ray or do I want to just buy the movie or TV show

[00:27:42] digitally what do I want to do today or do I want to just

[00:27:47] whatever streaming service has it or cable TV if I haven't cut the cord

[00:27:51] place it on the regular basis and so I really want to save money and

[00:27:55] to me it's like it really depends you know if it's a if it's a film I'm

[00:28:00] really want to see or if I'm if it's like my kind of film that I want to watch

[00:28:05] usually I'm gonna be buying on Blu-ray but the best resolution

[00:28:10] but you know if it's just something like hey

[00:28:13] I would rent this okay well let's let's check it out there's mixed reviews

[00:28:18] not sure if I want to waste time on it okay then Nile

[00:28:21] but the whole 4k thing I mean I've just been very hesitant to get to dip into

[00:28:26] that because I have been to because sometimes the quality is questionable

[00:28:30] like you're seeing details you shouldn't even be seeing like someone's nose hair

[00:28:34] or underwear like yeah some of the colors like the way they're

[00:28:39] I guess the colors are like more saturated on Blu-ray sometimes

[00:28:42] I don't understand that I don't understand that some of the colors just look

[00:28:46] a little bit odd even though it's supposed to be more realistic or natural

[00:28:50] as like they did too good a job enough enough

[00:28:54] personally because you know I can't rebuild my entire collection now on 4k

[00:29:02] gotta kind of just limit myself to like all right Blu-ray is good enough

[00:29:06] you know like yeah I still watch movies on VHS or VCD

[00:29:12] I think Blu-ray is where I got to finally just kind of say all right this kind

[00:29:16] yeah just the first run I'll go with it I don't need the 4k and pretty soon there

[00:29:22] might be an 8k and it's like oh look I don't need that

[00:29:25] don't get me wrong if there's a film that I want to see

[00:29:28] and we reach a day where they do away with Blu-ray

[00:29:32] and it's only on 4k then I'm gonna have to do it but

[00:29:37] um you know otherwise I feel like uh I think I'm just gonna you know save a

[00:29:42] little money and not open up the can of worms

[00:29:46] right getting into it and then being and then feeling like not I gotta

[00:29:50] replace every last movie or something so yeah it's

[00:29:55] it's like everyone wants to replace stuff and it's like well you know

[00:30:00] you don't have to treat it like your car like I'm just not feeling it anymore

[00:30:03] it doesn't have to be a divorce right right

[00:30:10] I mean to everybody I mean I know people were psyched

[00:30:13] I thought about buying it but I just finally decided you know what I mean

[00:30:17] I gotta just I was happy with the last uh

[00:30:24] Blu-rays that came out of Bruce Lee's films

[00:30:28] but I was pretty pretty intrigued to find out that they

[00:30:33] found this missing big boss footage after all these years

[00:30:38] yeah but decades right who misplaced the tape

[00:30:43] well supposedly supposedly this stuff was just sitting around it um

[00:30:47] and I guess it was a fortune star not Golden Harvest but

[00:30:53] supposedly nobody had ever asked for it and they

[00:30:57] and this arrow company asked for it so yeah we've got it

[00:31:02] and so they didn't know 4k Bruce Lee set but

[00:31:07] you know I was thinking I thought about jumping the gun you know

[00:31:11] getting in but then I was just like you know you know

[00:31:14] I'm real happy for everybody out there I know a lot of people couldn't wait to

[00:31:17] get that but I said to myself you know what I'm just

[00:31:21] gonna stick with the with the Blu-rays yeah I like that

[00:31:25] out the shout select ones that were like

[00:31:29] he's taken from a 4k print color corrected

[00:31:33] they look way better than the yeah I have a shout Blu-rays so

[00:31:38] I said you know what this is good enough that's the his greatest hits

[00:31:42] on intended one I think yeah yeah there've been so many releases and

[00:31:47] and I bought his movies more than any any movie

[00:31:50] replaced them you know this VHS copy this DVD copy another DVD copy

[00:31:57] a third DVD copy Blu-ray copy number one two three

[00:32:00] okay it's like finally it's in the juice you know all right I love the movie

[00:32:04] but I don't love it that much I just recently I started just kind of like

[00:32:10] because I got so many movies it's like I was like running in space basically

[00:32:15] especially once we had a baby and yeah you know like I used to have a movie

[00:32:21] room up there now now I have to condense everything in the basement

[00:32:25] and so much of my shelf space was taken up with like

[00:32:29] multiple copies of the same movie that I don't even you know

[00:32:33] like I upgraded it so I'm not even gonna watch that

[00:32:36] copy anymore so instead of hanging on to it I finally decided to just

[00:32:41] you know either give them away or sell them for a few bucks

[00:32:45] whatever he's been a real help at finding discounts but there are times where

[00:32:48] sellers will make a deal with me and like uh that's that's not a 40 dollar item

[00:32:56] and then there's other times where they're offering even more and like okay

[00:32:58] well I will do 40 over this one is a big giant

[00:33:03] exclusive set with a poster but uh any higher and I don't want to break my account

[00:33:11] uh speaking of Bruce Lee and Wesley Snipes there was some

[00:33:16] show which I think we probably brought this one up before but he

[00:33:19] he like hosted some show back in Masters of the Marshall Arts yeah

[00:33:23] yeah yeah yeah 98 special it's so much fun there's some a mixture of stand up

[00:33:28] they're it's kind of like the tourist world stun awards in a way where

[00:33:31] they're honoring all these different acrobat and ultimate spiders

[00:33:36] which is a great thing to do I mean

[00:33:38] golly and one of these days the academy awards needs to

[00:33:44] get out get on get with the program you know

[00:33:48] I hope so man I think everyone's getting sick right now so they're really hoping for some kind of

[00:33:54] extra inclusion you know because it's so wild how like the last stun awards they gave out were

[00:33:59] like for I think Ben Hurr so it's like oh I don't know the gloves and amies will do it but

[00:34:06] that's for TV you know so it's like what are we doing for them? I just I follow you know obviously

[00:34:12] Hong Kong film awards giving out their best action choreography every year and that's good

[00:34:18] the tourist world stun award yeah it's fun reading their website and really like reading like

[00:34:24] breakdowns of of the scenes and the stunts and everything yeah they they think very carefully how

[00:34:29] people are pitching it to them is like what are we gonna honor? What are we gonna give tribute to?

[00:34:35] Mission Impossible 2 was the first winner of like the overall best stunt coordination on a

[00:34:42] feature film that's good I though I mean to know that but that's good you know for anybody out there

[00:34:48] who's who just hears the bad things about Mission Impossible 2 hey I mean I get it everybody's got

[00:34:57] different tastes some people might not like John Woo style but yeah I mean I actually

[00:35:02] remember you should be seen at least once even if it's got enough people love his style where you know

[00:35:07] I definitely stand by the the part 2 had the best action scenes so

[00:35:14] oh and like you say I mean it doesn't you're not gonna get a plus you know acting and story

[00:35:21] in all these movies but you should see them at least once for the experience and pyrotechnics

[00:35:27] yeah yeah I mean as a kid like as an adult I can go back and appreciate the first film a lot more

[00:35:35] as a kid to be honest even though I was excited for I wanted to see it I was like into like gold and

[00:35:43] eye the game and it seemed there you go and oh man good stuff and so I thought like Mission Impossible

[00:35:49] would be a lot like that but it was like a lot different and no the first time I watched

[00:35:56] the kid I was kind of disappointed I thought well you know this isn't really like a spy action yeah

[00:36:06] there's some action but it's no it's a little bit different but then you know the video

[00:36:12] the Mission Impossible video game came out too and that one was like really good I think that

[00:36:17] one's highly underrated oh one of which won the for the first movie or for the it was a on

[00:36:24] in 10 to 64 yeah it was based on the first movie yeah and then they which says a lot my two came

[00:36:31] out and it was just like once you got hit with those John who action scenes it was like all the

[00:36:38] sudden now it's like boom like now it's his action franchise oh tell me I go back and watch part

[00:36:44] one as an adult it's like all right hold on a minute like that's a cool film yeah it was

[00:36:50] another one like there wasn't action in every segment it was also a mystery movie but I did

[00:36:55] that's a good point on the video game with both that and gold and I people would realize hey

[00:36:59] the video game can be just as cool as the movie and instead of just we're recreating a few missions

[00:37:06] and nothing really to it and in a way it was just like a it was pretty much the same

[00:37:15] the 90s they somehow got it it had to be kind of like an 80s TV show where the

[00:37:23] the cartoon is you know of he man or transformers is there to sell the toy and still be entertaining

[00:37:29] but yeah it could as to the ones who worked on the Mission Impossible games considering that

[00:37:35] the movie itself wasn't even made yet and was going through like multiple rewrites you know

[00:37:41] oh yeah yeah and that the game too I mean I was like reading up on it recently I would have been like

[00:37:45] how do you make a coherent plot for a script that's not done yet

[00:37:50] both gold and I and Mission Impossible had you know they had lots of missions based on the films

[00:37:58] but they also had some some levels and missions that were like exclusive to the games so

[00:38:03] exclusive and yeah and I have for bringing this back here I do feel like Art of War is pretty well

[00:38:11] liked by half the Wesley Snider's fan base but Wesley Snider's play did not did a video game

[00:38:20] really yeah I mean don't get me wrong there were video games that were made of

[00:38:26] of Blade and everything but he didn't have anything to do that but like in 2011 there was this

[00:38:29] thing called Julius Styles the International and just looking at it it totally looked like

[00:38:37] that in the cover for Game of Death looked like they were kind of attribute to the Art of War but

[00:38:43] I mean when he started doing those movies that were cheaply made in Romania that he had no idea

[00:38:49] we're going direct a video but are kind of liked by his fans yeah yeah the Zappo Deathinator right

[00:38:56] he detonator totally looks like Art of War two or three like this and he did a few other ones

[00:39:04] that were spy movies too and he's like yeah he's kind of unofficially in that mode when he's not doing

[00:39:09] a gangster movie or slaying vampires yeah I mean I mean do you have like a favorite

[00:39:18] of all of his like action films like is it past the 57 blade I'm definitely gonna put you know

[00:39:28] I kind of really love drop zone a lot yeah yeah a lot of people don't actually but I love it

[00:39:35] that's kind of a fun movie I did too I it's his point break didn't really it didn't really wow

[00:39:42] me the first time I watched it but yeah you know I bought it on Blu-ray yeah five six years ago and

[00:39:50] and I enjoyed I think Hans Zimmer did the music I think I believe so yeah and it was just one of those

[00:39:55] it took a while for everyone to kind of have fun with it but it was kind of I guess you could say

[00:40:01] the market that in money train kind of felt along with Art of War kind of were kind of on the

[00:40:06] wayside because like he was doing so many movies and so many cameos and ensemble stuff and

[00:40:12] comedies that I don't know it was just kind of hard to keep up I think he he was either a producer

[00:40:20] or an executive producer on the big hit you remember the film yes the Tarantino like a

[00:40:27] assassin movie with Marky Mark and Lou Dunn Phillips yeah yeah John Wu was another producer on it

[00:40:34] and that's actually an odd film not to get off topic but that was like during the slew of

[00:40:42] you know Hong Kong directors coming in doing coming doing American films and

[00:40:46] right long was the director which aren't long and cy hard to that with Van Damry style was so

[00:40:54] different from from that movie you know he had been doing like these gritty urban crime movies like

[00:41:00] like crime story with Jackie Chan and you know a lot of like real like street level stuff that's more

[00:41:10] like early John Wu and even kind of like ringo lumb or yeah like you know like just kind of like

[00:41:19] gritty and like I don't know he just had a cool style to his work yeah no Johnny tow yeah

[00:41:26] Andrew Lau and Sy Hard that just all those other guys who weren't Wu but we're kind of like early

[00:41:31] John Wu and city on fire type stuff whereas like we're gonna show you a hard boil just mixture

[00:41:38] of action mystery and noir and yeah you know looking back I think I think was the snipes should have

[00:41:45] done a movie like a big big budget mainstream theatrical release with one of those Hong Kong directors

[00:41:52] you know I would have loved to see that at something kind of like maximum risk Van Damry would have

[00:41:57] been fun just yeah double team you know I mean well let's like double team but yeah I love

[00:42:06] that movie it's cheesy you know that about it you know I get it I get it like if you know like

[00:42:13] Choi Hock style like his like I think like camera work and everything like you know when I saw

[00:42:22] knock off in the theater I thought it was a piece of crap but I didn't know his style I didn't

[00:42:28] know who Choi Hock was at the time I'm going back it's like man there's so much cool shit

[00:42:34] in just in the way in his camera work and everything yeah I don't care for the movie but I do like

[00:42:41] all his other crime movies like time and tide and even time and tide was like I think that's

[00:42:46] like his best modern day action work I mean that movie was really even a better tomorrow free I think

[00:42:53] has it's often lampoon but he loves doing kind of just subtle revenge movies instead of in your face

[00:43:00] kind of he ringo and Johnny tow all kind of do the whole just pot boiler pot boiler you know

[00:43:08] disgruntled cob bank robber with an unusual agenda and then wham wham wham five different plot twist

[00:43:15] all three of them all three of them collaborated on a film you might you probably saw it maybe

[00:43:19] triangle with yes I think so I mean yum and and Lewis Koo and a lot of people are in it but

[00:43:26] it was like you know the film itself if you didn't know their styles

[00:43:32] it's not like it was broken up into like three stories or three segments it was just like okay

[00:43:37] you know Troy Hawks gonna direct the first third ringo is gonna take over Johnny tow is gonna finish it

[00:43:43] but if you know their styles you can kind of see it especially Johnny tow like

[00:43:48] like there was no mistaking like okay he did the end you know right who are you kidding he totally

[00:43:55] yeah with the virus fade out yeah it's got to be him there's a certain stylistic shootout and everything

[00:44:03] and just like the dark humor and you know like all kinds of stuff just the camera work too you know

[00:44:10] but oh tolly and I look at it even with vengeance 2009 like they they love showing just

[00:44:17] unusual characters who we shouldn't have any connection to and somehow humanizing them in some

[00:44:21] capacity whether it's a you know retired hitman or a cop who was on his last day retirement and then

[00:44:29] sound that they even just the peaceful warrior who like owns a dojo you know I just

[00:44:36] and like because I was gonna say you know pretty much a lesser known director out of Hong Kong

[00:44:44] his name is Leon Bo Chi I love him too oh my god well but and he didn't really do that much stuff

[00:44:50] but he he actually directed the detonator with with snipes yep and he directed a Steven Segal

[00:44:58] uh you know direct a video movie called I think it was called out of reach yeah yeah he's

[00:45:05] that he's done so many unusual like adventure mystery even horror movies even some TV movies and

[00:45:13] but yeah just seeing him work all throughout like the Philippines and Britain and then like you

[00:45:19] say doing these more all the every other Sony action movie you know it's just like with these

[00:45:26] husbands was just it was just kind of fun because you've just got us he does have a very vibrant

[00:45:33] visual style yeah I never sought too many of his films I mean that the the old one he did with

[00:45:41] Chaoyue on fat is called Hong Kong 1941 and it was kind of like it came out like before

[00:45:47] better tomorrow and everything Chaoyue on fat wasn't even like an action star yet so it was more of

[00:45:51] like like a drama and stuff I always meant to see it uh I've seen 1911 with Jackie Chan but that's

[00:46:00] a different story but yeah well yeah yeah that one didn't didn't turn out very well no

[00:46:10] it would have been good to see Jackie and Wesley snipes together oh yeah in a film it came

[00:46:16] pretty close uh I think on I think they both auditioned for like I don't know it was jetley and him

[00:46:23] auditioned for ballistic experts sever and that didn't take off but oh really okay

[00:46:29] I had the opportunity to talk to the director who explained you know how sweet how he got fired from

[00:46:34] the movie by Andrew Stevens and yeah they'll live with the fact that hey I'm arrogant but I still have

[00:46:41] much to learn and you know the studios you pretty much they're always gonna mess with your various

[00:46:48] projects so you got to pretty much find a way to just kind of like how Conan O'Brien would get

[00:46:55] away with doing some edgy comedy scats is like you gotta fool the producers into making them think

[00:47:01] that your idea is their idea so they'll leave you alone and I just didn't work out but it yeah

[00:47:08] no that's a good point uh and how would you say Christian Duguay handles action here I mean he's

[00:47:16] no he's had his no shortage of a lot of mystery and action movies made for TV or in theaters

[00:47:22] he did live wire with Pierce Brosnan okay I'm not a obscure movie I don't I don't think I saw

[00:47:30] that one I it was more of a just mad bomber kind of movie and it got more popular like on cable

[00:47:38] TV like after the fact when his he became bomb yeah I remember seeing like the preview some years back

[00:47:45] watching on YouTube and stuff and I like thought about picking it up maybe I'll have to do that

[00:47:49] because I don't know if I've seen any of his other movies but I do remember like the there was

[00:47:56] like the detonator movies with Pierce Brosnan from the 90s it were oh yeah USA Network TV

[00:48:02] movie with a video type things but oh yeah I think you know I thought he handled the action pretty well

[00:48:10] um I think it helps that he had he was basically mentored by

[00:48:16] uh watch story short uh David Cronenberg and he took over the Scanners franchise then he did

[00:48:23] screamers with Peter Weller and then from that point on he just decided uh you know he was kind of

[00:48:31] he he worked with Donald Sardin on a TV miniseries that was really good called human trafficking

[00:48:36] retnight of federal agent kind of taken down some you know black market guys you know stop them from

[00:48:44] doing all those illegal exploitation activities uh but yeah um it seems like he's kind of still in

[00:48:53] this mode he just knows how to create tension and just leave it to the stunt coordinators to

[00:48:58] and demolition guys to come up with the explosions he can frame yeah I mean

[00:49:04] you know there wasn't anything that was like just amazing or outstanding in the movie but everything

[00:49:09] was done in the I think above average very solid no kind of fashion if it has a sleek look to it

[00:49:19] don't they um

[00:49:24] and I guess with the sequels part two had like maybe two decent fights

[00:49:31] I it kind of suffered from like too much editing and just very obnoxious dialogue that

[00:49:38] like just that was about to fight some villain has to get in like a generic oh I thought I killed

[00:49:43] you line and you're like oh lord is this a 70s cartoon show you know jinkies um

[00:49:51] and part three it's so weird it kind of is back to the same deal whereas like there's some

[00:49:57] Chinese agents and South Korean agents trying to start we'll we're free but

[00:50:03] it's kind of it feels like one of those red olin rage and monor ski type of schlockfest you know

[00:50:08] what I mean where there's stock British you have the late Neil Shaw the character right yeah

[00:50:15] yep yeah and yeah because I still never I never got around to watching either either sequel but

[00:50:20] yeah I don't think anyone needs to see it or I art a war two often came packaged with part one

[00:50:27] in certain DVD Blu-ray packs part three came on bounce cable TV channel quite a lot

[00:50:34] and so that's what I get a little bit wary of a directive video sequel to a theatrical release

[00:50:42] I mean no I can't blame you not to say that they can't be good but right no I mean

[00:50:46] something I rush out to see all the time we'll return after these messages

[00:52:22] a spirited debate check out the who would win show wherever you get your podcasts or check

[00:52:26] us out at oodwin show dot com oh totally with part two I mean at least snipes came back

[00:52:34] you know and it had a decent almost Tony Scott kind of visual look but then yeah part three

[00:52:39] I was just kind of like uh yeah this is kind of more of a you know two a.m it looks like a cheesy

[00:52:48] sci-fi channel scum acts kind of movie it's not really what did you think of boiling point did

[00:52:55] you see that one oh I love that one really it's not really liked a lot but it's kind of fun

[00:53:03] yeah I mean I couldn't I'd seen it a long time ago you know back in the day when I would rent

[00:53:11] you know as many of those kinds of movies is like you know half time for it but very young

[00:53:17] Vigo Mortensen yeah I watch it again you know within the last few years and I was just kind

[00:53:25] of like bored with it I was like nah this movie wasn't it it it is a very slow 90s movie and I'm sure

[00:53:32] it's it pretty much if you take away the big giant cast it's kind of more of a Miami vice episode

[00:53:37] so yeah Dennis Hopper right and then yeah you know one of these days I'll probably throw it on

[00:53:46] again give it another go but but no I I can't blame that I mean some of these are going to be kind

[00:53:52] of goofy I'm trying to think I mean obviously New Jack City is fantastic

[00:54:02] even he had a smaller role in King of New York that's right yeah very true very true I feel like

[00:54:12] where we're forgetting something like I was eating plate movies but

[00:54:18] geez what else

[00:54:24] well you mentioned rising sun I got rising sun I gotta watch that one again it's more of a

[00:54:29] that's also kind of a noir movie mixed in with kind of buddy cop but you can make sugar hill

[00:54:36] oh yeah so underrated that was okay I didn't love it but it was it was okay it was definitely you know

[00:54:48] I mean it's not a must see but it's I recall seeing that one on BT quite a lot and just liking how

[00:54:54] it wasn't glamorizing that you know lifestyle right I mean it it's worthy it's worth it pick up or at

[00:55:06] least watch I mean it's not it's not a classic or anything but New Jack City's a classic it's not

[00:55:15] it's not New Jack City but it is it's definitely worth watching

[00:55:23] uh definitely around there yeah and without feeling like hey you know they're

[00:55:31] we're talking about this and that but you know it it seems like every other movie or show will often

[00:55:39] just want to ape the other and I think that was kind of it's interesting with New Jack City how

[00:55:46] Mark and Van Peoples wasn't going for a Scarface look but yet that's often

[00:55:52] uh what he got from people is oh it's a flashy Scarface type movie so I mean yeah

[00:55:57] and that one was kind of more that was almost like the wire or an episode of the homicide just showing

[00:56:03] and just a lesser lifestyle and how people get corrupted

[00:56:11] but uh I like how I like movies where the criminal is very self-aware their profession like it

[00:56:19] was almost kind of like never diallone with DMX where you're just seeing hey this guy knows what

[00:56:25] happened and it is pretty much like are you sure you want me to tell this story because you're

[00:56:31] gonna hate me by the end of this but yeah with these Neil Shaw movies you can watch part one

[00:56:41] and you can watch part two if it's a lazy Sunday and part freeze more of a bad movie night

[00:56:48] despite being fans of treacherous music

[00:56:50] yeah I mean um you mentioned Carrie to Gawa, Carrie here you to Gawa I mean he's been

[00:57:01] yeah I think he's been I know he's been doing quite well it seems in recent years like

[00:57:05] he had that I didn't watch you but he had like that that show was a call I think it was called like

[00:57:12] oh man in the high castle yeah yeah that's been in the high castle yeah obviously he returned to

[00:57:19] more like a battle yeah oh yeah I'm soon again in the in the game

[00:57:27] web series as well so he's he's gotten to play the character three times now

[00:57:32] which I think I think overall I think that's probably his most famous role

[00:57:42] from the original Mortal Kombat film absolutely yeah it was it was a cool scene kind of that

[00:57:48] tribute while seeing the other actors you know like I thought Casper Vendian did a cool take his

[00:57:52] own cool take on Johnny Cage as opposed to trying to eight Lyndon Ashby yeah yeah no Casper was good

[00:58:02] I wish they had released the third season of that web series and yeah so Garrett Warren

[00:58:07] like that interview with Garrett Warren yeah on Rome cast it was so good and uh you know what Michael

[00:58:14] Jay White got to be part of that but I would have loved to see Wesley Snipes part of the

[00:58:17] Mortal Kombat franchise too I think yeah you know I never even really I don't know what we play

[00:58:23] but it'd be cool if he played just someone who even if they just created him for the movie just like as

[00:58:31] he could be kind of a just someone who just threatens Raiden or Sub-Zero maybe

[00:58:37] oh another one of his movies well I mean he's only in it not a whole lot but it's a more recent film

[00:58:44] um cutthroat city I don't know if you saw that one yeah it's still on the watch list uh what do

[00:58:50] you think of it was it like Brooklyn's finest you know I was hoping it was gonna be an epic kind

[00:58:56] of like yeah I mean Brooklyn's finest was great I mean Antoine Fukuah I mean that's his specialty

[00:59:01] doing yeah he's the Walter Hill of our generation you know he's great at doing those films training day

[00:59:07] I mean hardball movies yeah replacement killers was oh yeah freaking a very fun movie uh you know

[00:59:16] don't even though you know people I think a lot of people I gather a lot of people who are

[00:59:23] already fans of Chiant Fat probably were disappointed with it because he didn't really get a whole

[00:59:29] lot of you know acting to work within that film but um I think he made up for it with like the

[00:59:36] corruptor I'd say so yeah and it was very eye-opening yeah for me it was like because I had never

[00:59:44] heard of Chiant Fat when that movie came out I'm else only on the 12 right but why I learned

[00:59:52] right away like okay he was another big star in Hong Kong you know and I had only recently in

[00:59:58] the last few years been getting into you know Bruce Lee Jackie Chan their movies so then all of a

[01:00:05] sudden okay okay now that here's this other guy all right let's let's see what else he's done

[01:00:11] and I had heard of John Wu oh sweet they did this movie hardboiled together you know let's rent

[01:00:17] that and then you know it's like mind blowing the first time you watching so I I definitely thought

[01:00:24] so too yeah it was a fun mixture of all kinds of movies but I mean back to Cutthroat City

[01:00:32] I think Rizza there is a has a lot of potential as a filmmaker but yeah I felt that film it had

[01:00:41] a great cast Mitrius ship Jr who played Tupac in the Falleiser and that's right

[01:00:48] um imagine if Tupac and Wesley had done a movie together oh that would have been really

[01:00:53] cool that's a dream cast right there um well Ethan Hawke was in it right that's why I thought it

[01:01:02] was gonna be like Brooklyn's finance the two movies together. Isaac Gonzalez I mean she

[01:01:08] she really played kind of a different type of uh you know they made her more like frumpy and stuff

[01:01:14] in that movie then she normally she's you know not looking like that but right um I don't know

[01:01:25] I just the ending was like really weird too it was like it was kind of over advertised but

[01:01:32] you didn't really know what to fill in a way well the ending was kind of hard to figure out exactly

[01:01:38] what what was going on for my remember I only watched once I just remember I don't want to spoil it

[01:01:44] you can't I wanted to watch it but it's it's just kept getting taken off every other stream

[01:01:50] service I was on so I was like uh what's going on yeah I mean I just I thought it was gonna be like

[01:01:58] I thought it was gonna be better than it was but it's still worth watching for sure

[01:02:04] you know Wesley Snipes part of the movie was pretty small but I think he was in at least it's

[01:02:13] better than some of his latest movies which have been kind of three scenes yeah he did a few other

[01:02:18] one when he was like trying to deactivate some robots and it just kind of was too slow for my taste

[01:02:25] did you see the game of death one that he did or not oh yeah yeah yeah that was like I was

[01:02:29] that cuz I never saw that one you know despite people not caring for some of the other movies

[01:02:35] that that filmmakers worked on with Dolph Lungerin I feel like this one was at least a game of fun

[01:02:42] role villain roles for Zoe Bell and Gary Daniels but all together it was kind of attributed to

[01:02:50] Snipes's earlier work like he does kind of play another just guy with a special side of skills

[01:02:55] kind of like art award but then he finds himself in similar kind of situations kind of like you

[01:03:00] would see in money train or passenger 57 so it's kind of just a love letter to his earlier work while

[01:03:06] also who directed it uh George E. O. Sarafini is the center European filmmaker who's

[01:03:17] uh you know done some like it or hate it movies with Randy Cotor and Dolph Lungerin and I'd say this

[01:03:22] is probably a better one he did where every what had pretty it pretty much just was another just

[01:03:30] getting good out just fun slugfest movie like it could have worked for even Stone Cold or uh Michael

[01:03:37] J. White like it's just even Roddy Piper it is a very straightforward action movie that knows

[01:03:43] what it is instead of like you say being overedited or not making use of talent yeah I mean it's like

[01:03:51] it's hard for me to get over the title like because I yeah mine goes right to Bruce Lee's movie

[01:03:59] right right nothing to do with that one obviously but no one of these days I may have to check it out

[01:04:08] yeah I should be on just about every ever streaming platform

[01:04:12] okay let's sing uh what else um you mentioned Brooklyn's finest

[01:04:23] uh that was a good role for him I like this role in that film such a tragic movie even kind of

[01:04:30] once again yeah it's not the same kind of role that you already saw him in in New York City or

[01:04:37] Sugar Hill it's kind of just and just good rapport with Don Chiddle and

[01:04:44] who's in a similar role much like and you know that that's the kind of role I like seeing Don Chiddle

[01:04:50] in and just like in you know out of sight or colors where he's like see he can really

[01:04:57] have some different shades to yeah out of sight it was great I mean that that's what made me a fan

[01:05:03] Don Chiddle back in the day. There's all these actors who have been Comillions for years and

[01:05:11] he kind of just wished someone could still throw him a bone and it was like oh but remember when they

[01:05:15] did this and that

[01:05:22] uh yeah uh is there any just like remiss that your surprise snipes hasn't done yet like

[01:05:30] he still got maybe a few extra kicks in him I mean I saw the player tv show which

[01:05:36] and true story which was a Netflix mini series he did

[01:05:40] and same kind of deal where I was like see he can still kick a guy and

[01:05:45] uh having over the top persona and play around with some psychological mind games with his

[01:05:51] characters I'd love to see him at least do just one more cool slugfest before he hangs it up

[01:05:56] because he's done stuff with Eddie Murphy but that's about it yeah I mean there's no reason why he can't

[01:06:04] can't continue to make films for a little while I mean

[01:06:07] um Arnold Stallone they're still doing it I mean

[01:06:11] yeah you're older than him and I mean he did his die hard you know his die hard

[01:06:19] um clone or whatever you want to call him like Riffon

[01:06:23] yeah I heard scenario I guess is the best term right he's done every other dog day afternoon type

[01:06:29] movie and he still got something left oh let's see

[01:06:38] I mean I one thing I'm wondering is you know why isn't he an expendableist for apparently

[01:06:44] I think everyone got so fed up like waiting on that to come around I know Terry Cruz had a falling

[01:06:50] out because the agent who uh the talent agent who grabbed him at the awards show happened to be

[01:06:57] the same guy who reps Adam Sandler and Stallone so that got really ugly real fast and then

[01:07:04] uh I know Stallone was just getting sick of it because dealing with producer

[01:07:09] avi learner and that's when he decided okay you know uh I'm gonna do what I should have done where

[01:07:15] this is now just an excuse for me to leave the franchise and Jason Statham just spearheaded now

[01:07:21] but I know the poster was announced at cons before it was even ready to be greenlit and they

[01:07:27] put yeah Statham and Benderas's name on it even though Benderas wasn't confirmed so yeah

[01:07:33] apparently Schwarzenegger is in it though I mean from what I understand he's in it because I

[01:07:40] heard that he filmed scenes for it interesting and this is just I guess they're just trying to keep

[01:07:46] a secret or something like uh like a surprise cameo or something I obviously I can't swear to

[01:07:52] that but that's all I'm a movie web that he wasn't returning but who knows they might have filmed

[01:07:57] something I I think he did a good job on Foobar recently where he's parodying his spy movie persona

[01:08:05] but yeah there's a lot of Arnold what did you think of the trailer anyway of

[01:08:12] expenditures for I mean I always go in cold I haven't seen the trailer he didn't even say okay yeah

[01:08:19] you're a lot like my friend you can I mean they always give it away man hey always give it but I

[01:08:24] like Scott Wog and Rick Roman Wog those two stuntman turn brothers but I mean

[01:08:31] yeah I want to check out the one with the he did with Jackie Chan and John Cena

[01:08:36] the hidden strike oh I haven't seen that it was like a movie that was delayed for a long time

[01:08:44] oh because of his project of an action or something or other and then oh wow

[01:08:49] different titles but apparently it's it may well be out on Netflix I see it now yeah

[01:08:56] I might be wrong about that but no no you're right you're right on there yeah I see it on there

[01:09:01] I'll have to check that one out that looks like a crazy bananas movie yeah

[01:09:10] but yeah I mean I don't want to spoil anything I mean it's just a trailer obviously

[01:09:16] oh good do you I want to see it I mean well and it's just a trailer so

[01:09:25] yeah maybe I move it better but the trailer was like a little bit underwhelming I would say

[01:09:31] but oh bummer I mean that's why I ought to know watch them because like they'll

[01:09:39] half the time will be just like deleted scenes and so I'm like okay well yeah that's a good point

[01:09:44] yeah you never want to get too hung up because sometimes you see things in the trailer

[01:09:51] and then you and then they're not in the film yeah it's insane

[01:09:58] but yeah no that's definitely one I mean I gotta go see that one in the theater I mean

[01:10:03] I've seen them all in the theater so I only saw the third one in theaters but I'm definitely

[01:10:08] gonna see yeah not one in theaters I'm gonna try and get as many of my friends there for it and

[01:10:14] I'm with you I do wish snipes and vendera's could come back but I would jetley jetley I mean

[01:10:22] jetley was getting tired of it oh well he has like arthritis I think now and yeah thyroid issues

[01:10:30] and everything so but it looks like Tony jaws in it they could have gotten done it by end but they

[01:10:37] went down and it would be great to see him in one of those finally Jackie Chan he's another one who

[01:10:42] as long as you film in Hong Kong and not in Hollywood he'll be in your movie and it's just

[01:10:47] it seemed like each time they try to get all the other guys they weren't either willing to pay their

[01:10:52] typical salary or they just couldn't agree on what their role even was so it's a shame because

[01:11:00] for a movie that's supposed to be a fun throwback to earlier action adventures cinema it would

[01:11:06] have been fun but we'll see and didn't Steven Segal I think he was gonna be in it but he had had

[01:11:11] a disagreement with with learner yeah he had pissed off learners so many times and Stallone was like

[01:11:17] hey I've already seen him misbehaved at one of my parties I just want to get this damn thing done on time

[01:11:28] well yeah you never know I mean maybe if I kind of expect this will be the last one but I guess

[01:11:34] you never know maybe he's like you said maybe it maybe it goes off in the statham direction where

[01:11:39] he's kind of the Christmas and expendable story yeah that was what they were gonna call it right

[01:11:47] and then they I know I know I know I did I was just making stuff oh well no no seriously like

[01:11:55] I remember there you know when back in you know a couple years ago or something there were some

[01:12:00] articles that said like that was going to be the title of the film or something so I'd say

[01:12:06] I guess you can name start naming films yeah either way Stallone's cool and it on Tulsa King and I

[01:12:15] I hope all these guys can stay busy because so many of our guys are either you know retired or

[01:12:20] don't want to do these kind of movies anymore no I I champion all of them keep going you know

[01:12:26] as long as they can be I like the tag light even though it's cheesy you know they'll die when

[01:12:33] they're dead in the area yeah yeah something over the top that's just

[01:12:38] this race but you know snipes I mean come on I mean

[01:12:43] he can keep going I think for a while you should I mean I think Samo-Hong he's starting to show

[01:12:52] his age unfortunately he's getting up there yeah he's in the 70s now which I mean he's younger than

[01:12:57] Stallone and Arnold them but I think he's had more like health issues and like I think so

[01:13:03] I don't think he's to dementia level yet anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but yeah he's definitely

[01:13:09] seeing better days I would like to see Simon Yam but other than the Tomb Raider 2 he hasn't really

[01:13:14] done any Hollywood appearances I think Samo he had had like knee surgery something like that back

[01:13:22] around the time of Ip-Mon 2 he had like a heart surgery even oh damn that's I mean that's a lot man

[01:13:32] and I know they just gave him like some kind of recognition at the I believe it was the Asian film

[01:13:39] awards and that's how I'm sure I'm back in March and he was like I saw the video where he

[01:13:45] accepted the award he was grateful that people still you know acknowledge him because his knowledge is

[01:13:53] his impact is him and Vinnie the jet are kind of forgotten it's like why they're legends in the action

[01:13:59] industry yeah yeah even Chuck Jeffries you know he's done movies like for PM Entertainment and he's

[01:14:06] the chariot guy and gladiator but I'll always remember him as designing the fight scenes in both

[01:14:10] Willsley Snipes's 90s movies as well as the first Spider-Man you know but yeah all these coordinators

[01:14:19] they should not be forgotten they shouldn't be known by even just the filmmakers and

[01:14:24] that that's cool though to see Samo still getting some love because yeah keep going as long as you

[01:14:31] can I mean they can probably get totally wrong because he got a career boost from doing Shang-Chi but

[01:14:37] and yeah I was getting so annoyed because family members were like oh I've never heard of him before I'm

[01:14:43] like we have some homework here right he's only been in every other movie with

[01:14:52] Andy Lau and Maggie Q and then shall be on bed but yeah I mean if he's so funny had he been

[01:14:59] departed and played his same characters in Furnal Affairs that would have been meta

[01:15:03] yeah no I think that was a good Hollywood debut for him finally finally or more fanfare than

[01:15:13] I guess you can count the great wall for Andy Lau is being kind of a

[01:15:19] that's so true when I I can't be fine because basically Matt Daven had played in departed Andy Lau

[01:15:26] his trader character you know which is a remake of Furnal Affairs and so I thought it was so

[01:15:30] funny oh two traders and one movie together yeah a great wall yeah I mean the great wall wasn't

[01:15:37] all that great but yeah it could have been better but Shang-Chi was Shang-Chi was a lot of fun though

[01:15:44] oh totally that take away the bad humor we've been Kingslay there's some fun fun fun fun

[01:15:50] mayhem in that movie I mean the action too I mean especially in the first like the fight on the

[01:15:56] bus and then the fight yeah gap holding is that that whole doctor's part of that whole cinematic

[01:16:01] universe is I mean this is why I'm wishing that with this new blade movie that's been delayed and

[01:16:09] each director is quit so far I was like if anything if they want to save this movie

[01:16:14] make him be the son of blade bring Wesley back into that cinematic universe

[01:16:19] yeah I mean you've heard of Brad Allen and Alan he had been the fight stunt coordinator

[01:16:29] all martial artists but he passed away unfortunately oh wow

[01:16:36] non-Chinese member of Jackie Chan stunt man he worked on Hellboy 2 and Riddick oh my god

[01:16:43] and he was in I don't know if you saw the movie gorgeous with Jackie Chan but yeah he's the boxer

[01:16:49] yeah yeah yeah yeah he had like two great fights with Jackie in that film a very I mean

[01:16:53] that guy was just phenomenal I'm looking at it now man and I'm British or Canadian production ninja

[01:17:01] assassin wolves had to write movies I believe he even did Kingsman because I remember watching

[01:17:09] the first Kingsman in the theater and I felt I thought to myself some some of this action has like a

[01:17:15] Hong Kong flare to it and then I saw Brad Allen's name in the credits oh well there you go man

[01:17:23] so he got one world stunt award priest sag get the sagged guild awards yeah he passed away like right

[01:17:33] I think it was like a month before the Shang Chi movie came out or something

[01:17:37] and they they like dedicated to him I can't find anything that's what he died of he

[01:17:43] I'm not sure exactly what what happened no I don't know yeah that is sad

[01:17:49] yeah that's very sad I mean I was shocked to hear I mean I didn't already aim damn I didn't know

[01:17:55] I'm obviously personally never met him but I like to say you feel like you know when you recognize

[01:18:00] his signature action style and you're like yeah that trip I'm staying till the end of the

[01:18:05] credits to see who the second unit stunt coordinator later is yeah and there was a great interview up

[01:18:10] on YouTube with him from back in the day where he talked about like you know how he got started

[01:18:16] working with Jackie Chan and gotten that's nice ended up being on the stunt team and everything

[01:18:25] very nice

[01:18:25] well that's all folks I feel like we have pretty much given snipes a lot of love we still talking

[01:18:40] about all the 70s to current day iterations of the action genre and we know what we want to see

[01:18:49] we know what we love seeing we talked about some other underrated sleepers fan mail is always

[01:18:57] appreciated and what we promised to give you some more fun interviews soon too yeah I'm glad

[01:19:04] that people are kind of starting to take it back to like the practical effects days a little bit more

[01:19:13] you know I mean they're starting to realize like this just generally looks better right and CGI

[01:19:26] uh tolle and it's the same too because I remember the days when CGI still looked legit good like

[01:19:32] when we're talking t2 or the first Jurassic Park and then oh yeah everyone who's been with it

[01:19:38] long enough has always said like every time like people would make suggestions they always like

[01:19:44] cut it out or just say oh we're not doing that or we'll worry about the script later it's like no

[01:19:52] you know like a good effect of plot and CGI has its place don't get me wrong I mean yeah

[01:19:58] but for like a you know traditional action contemporary action film I mean I think it should be

[01:20:05] used sparingly these days and some I think a lot of times it gets just overused

[01:20:12] and dad or I get to like for safety measures you know I don't blame anybody for

[01:20:20] wanting to use it for safety measures but right but it's just so sad when you see like

[01:20:27] some of these films and like the people storyboarding it didn't even know how they wanted to create it

[01:20:33] where it's like well if at all you've had you know five months to figure out how you want to film this

[01:20:41] because of us uh hopefully they hire people with more experience and less arrogance you know

[01:20:47] because you're just always so sad when you ask someone about one of their favorite your favorite

[01:20:54] movies up there's and they're like oh well nothing personal I don't want to talk about it or

[01:20:58] it was good but I didn't agree without it was distributed or made or it was just hell I hated

[01:21:04] making it and it's like oh damn sorry well yeah definitely man it was it was a good chat

[01:21:12] and long overdue man great catching up with you yeah it's always fun we should yeah we got to

[01:21:18] start doing again more I promise I mean we mentioned so many good movies and I do promise we're

[01:21:24] gonna do more actor specials whereas like here's five you know like crime movies with this actor

[01:21:29] here's two action thrillers you know with this guy here's five by this particular filmmaker here's

[01:21:36] four horror jala movies by this you know cold filmmaker you know just always something to just

[01:21:40] kind of just show we're like the milk freak blue ray pack of the podcast we all one of these days

[01:21:48] if you want to do it we should just do a John Woo episode because I mean to me like that's

[01:21:54] that's even this like so much to go off on you know like oh like you could you could easily fill

[01:22:02] you know two hours worth of hours yeah not even in hardly scratch the surface whereas you know

[01:22:08] uh yeah I've got a war I mean I've seen many times but like somehow

[01:22:17] as well as like you know hard target or hard boiled or something yeah different kind of movie

[01:22:29] all right we'll take care man and we're talking again it's great having on

[01:22:34] you know I have more topics epicness we're gonna keep celebrating
