[00:00:15] Imagine, it's not something to be feared, but a gift to pass on.

[00:00:26] This has never been personal.

[00:00:28] What the hell it ain't. You're trying to kill my son.

[00:00:30] This book belongs to our family. And together, we're gonna use it to protect our family.

[00:00:38] You're a person in the world.

[00:00:42] It's gonna change everything.

[00:00:46] It's too damn risky.

[00:00:48] Look what we've been through to get here.

[00:00:49] I'm fighting now.

[00:00:56] This time...

[00:01:02] A choice.

[00:01:03] I hope you'll forgive me for this one last secret.

[00:02:00] Welcoming to the show from the YouTube channel Comics and...

[00:02:05] Dani Soncasie. Welcome.

[00:02:09] Thanks.

[00:02:10] We had to talk about the progressive, yet very twisted book adaptation, Lovecraft Country.

[00:02:17] We did a two-part episode a few years back, and that wasn't enough.

[00:02:22] I showcase all of this HBO show.

[00:02:25] Wrongfully terminated.

[00:02:27] We figured, hey, just like any other franchise from movies, comics, TV, video games, you name it.

[00:02:34] It was like, let's revisit it.

[00:02:35] Let's talk about our favorite moments.

[00:02:37] What made...

[00:02:38] You know what's good if you want to talk about it 500 dozen more times.

[00:02:41] So, but first off, how did you get into different genres and all things geek?

[00:02:51] Oh, well...

[00:02:52] I really like your videos, by the way.

[00:02:53] They're very engaging.

[00:02:54] Wow.

[00:02:54] Thank you so much.

[00:02:56] That's, you know, that's really nice to hear.

[00:02:58] Like, you're the queen of just the really stare.

[00:03:01] Just like, you're just...

[00:03:03] You'll be looking at stuff that creators have said and unpopular characters, and you're

[00:03:09] just like, I don't even understand this fandom anymore.

[00:03:13] Well, thank you.

[00:03:14] I work really hard on my channel, so that's always nice to hear.

[00:03:18] I'm screen shy.

[00:03:19] I can't do any of the TikTok stuff.

[00:03:20] So my sister does it, and she does pretty good with the, you know, death stare.

[00:03:24] Or just like, that's what I call it, where just the...

[00:03:28] You get the awkward silence.

[00:03:30] Just someone said something so dumb.

[00:03:32] You're like, I don't know how to respond.

[00:03:35] Well, I have two very nerdy parents.

[00:03:41] Oh, that's a good start.

[00:03:42] I really do.

[00:03:43] And, I mean, they were...

[00:03:45] My dad is more the Star Trek side.

[00:03:48] He's really into Star Trek.

[00:03:49] And my mom is very much into Star Wars.

[00:03:53] Neither one...

[00:03:54] Neither one...

[00:03:55] So I guess you could say we were a non-denominational nerd home.

[00:04:00] Everything was forget.

[00:04:01] Yes.

[00:04:02] And they weren't exactly into comic books.

[00:04:04] That was my little brother and I.

[00:04:06] We were way into that stuff.

[00:04:08] But anything sci-fi, fantasy, horror, any of that was pretty much introduced to me by my

[00:04:16] parents.

[00:04:17] They were both avid readers.

[00:04:19] They were very much into Stephen King, Anne Rice, Tolkien, you name it.

[00:04:26] All the greats.

[00:04:27] We had everything from Hemingway to It on the bookshelf.

[00:04:34] So really into that stuff.

[00:04:36] My mom was always very much into Halloween.

[00:04:38] And that was kind of my introduction into special effects.

[00:04:44] But I also spent pretty much my entire childhood in Shriners Hospital for children.

[00:04:51] Oh, nice.

[00:04:52] And this was...

[00:04:53] Yes, it was lovely.

[00:04:56] But no...

[00:04:56] That's more than I'll do in this lifetime.

[00:04:58] Heads off, though.

[00:04:59] You know, just...

[00:05:00] That's a Samaritan work right there.

[00:05:02] That's good.

[00:05:02] No, I was...

[00:05:03] I was a patient.

[00:05:05] Oh!

[00:05:06] Yeah, I spent my childhood as a patient in Shriners Hospital.

[00:05:10] It's okay.

[00:05:11] And, you know, there was a lot of time in bed and, you know, in a wheelchair.

[00:05:16] And this was the 80s and 90s.

[00:05:18] So no internet.

[00:05:20] I had comic books and I had TV.

[00:05:24] Whatever's in the library at the hospital.

[00:05:26] Right.

[00:05:26] I watched a lot of Star Trek The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager.

[00:05:34] I played a lot of video games, read a lot of books, a lot of comic books.

[00:05:39] We had a local comic book store that came in every week and dropped off a bunch of comics.

[00:05:43] So that really kind of catapulted me into kind of obsessing about this stuff.

[00:05:50] Like, I devoted all of my brain power into memorizing and learning about these characters and stories.

[00:06:00] Like, just imagine if I had devoted a fraction of that to balancing a checkbook.

[00:06:04] I would have been unstoppable.

[00:06:06] But instead, it was, you know, where's Rogue really from?

[00:06:13] And how does stuff get made?

[00:06:16] How many Star Trek aliens can I name?

[00:06:20] You know, that kind of thing.

[00:06:22] How does the Twilight Zone really work?

[00:06:23] Why does someone always not have a shuttle to the exhaust port on the Death Star?

[00:06:27] Just why?

[00:06:29] Why?

[00:06:30] Why did we leave that hole there?

[00:06:33] Like, why did we do that?

[00:06:35] Why is Jason faster at re-healing as opposed to Michael Myers and all the other demons and undead characters?

[00:06:42] You know, why is every Terminator instantly blast away unless it's the Arnold model?

[00:06:49] Oh, but you gotta love it.

[00:06:52] No, I love it.

[00:06:53] It's funny, though.

[00:06:55] And my dad was a massive Terminator fan.

[00:06:57] When Terminator 2 was hitting theaters, if a trailer came on TV for the movie, he would leave the room.

[00:07:07] Because he wanted to go in with absolutely zero expectations.

[00:07:12] And he didn't want to know anything.

[00:07:15] So, God bless him.

[00:07:18] So, if a new Back to the Future Ghostbusters comes out, he's like, nope, going in cold.

[00:07:22] Don't tell me a word.

[00:07:24] There's a new comic book spinoff.

[00:07:26] Where do I pre-order?

[00:07:29] Every time I see my dad, it's like he always forgets that he taught me these things.

[00:07:36] He was really massive Doctor Who fan all throughout his childhood.

[00:07:40] Massive Doctor Who.

[00:07:42] And if I ever mention Doctor Who around him, he will say, what does TARDIS stand for?

[00:07:48] I'm like, time and relative dimension in space.

[00:07:49] Hello?

[00:07:50] He's like, that's my girl.

[00:07:53] But at least he's the calm nerd.

[00:07:55] Because I would see people trip out.

[00:07:56] Oh, my God.

[00:07:57] You don't know what it's called?

[00:07:58] Not just a phone booth.

[00:07:59] I'm like, oh, my word, dude.

[00:08:01] Oh, he's only seen two episodes.

[00:08:03] He made sure I would never be in that predicament.

[00:08:06] You would never have to deal with any of the rude people because you'd school them and shut them down.

[00:08:12] That's how I was raised.

[00:08:14] No, that's all.

[00:08:17] So were you familiar with any of these actors or were you into kind of black horror and period drama, supernatural kind of?

[00:08:24] Um, I'm very, very much into supernatural.

[00:08:28] As a matter of fact, I am an author.

[00:08:32] I've published a book about vampires many, many moons ago, but it is a thing I've done.

[00:08:40] So as far as supernatural stuff, I'm a huge fan.

[00:08:44] Um, clearly vampires are my favorite, but anything with magic or ghosts, vampires, tempting fate.

[00:08:54] Yeah.

[00:08:55] Well, that's Stephen King book.

[00:08:57] So that's one of one.

[00:08:59] Totally there.

[00:09:00] So, yeah, I huge, huge supernatural fan.

[00:09:03] And, um, Lovecraft is the father of the genre of sci-fi in general, really.

[00:09:13] And I'm one of those people that I firmly believe that the sci-fi genre has been trying to save humanity from itself.

[00:09:24] Since H.P. Lovecraft.

[00:09:26] Yeah, it's trying to warn you of the dangers of becoming too dependent upon this technology or that technology or not respecting this or that technology.

[00:09:38] And, uh, you, I don't know if you really, really get into sci-fi, like really read some Asimov.

[00:09:45] Yes.

[00:09:46] And, obviously, Frank Herbert, Dune, what self-respecting sci-fi nerd doesn't bow at the altar of Herbert.

[00:09:56] I don't know.

[00:09:57] I don't want to know that person.

[00:09:59] But, clearly, they're trying to warn humanity to trust yourself other than machines.

[00:10:07] So, that...

[00:10:08] Herbert is very detailed for me, but I do respect his overall concepts.

[00:10:12] And I have, like, some interpretations of Doom.

[00:10:16] It's so much deeper.

[00:10:18] So much deeper than people who just watch the movies think.

[00:10:23] Like, if they are really...

[00:10:24] They're doing Dune Messiah.

[00:10:26] They're doing it.

[00:10:28] It's official.

[00:10:29] Right.

[00:10:29] They're making that movie.

[00:10:31] And me and...

[00:10:32] I thought I'd give any of these guys a break when they adapt a property.

[00:10:36] Because, like, take all the egos and the money aside.

[00:10:42] It's no easy task to put any of this in perspective.

[00:10:46] Adapt it.

[00:10:47] Inevitably, there will always be someone who's angry.

[00:10:50] But that's the other amusing part, too.

[00:10:53] Until the smoke clears after a year, you really don't know who legit likes it versus who is just trolling and doing a clickbait article.

[00:11:01] And sometimes you've got to sit on it.

[00:11:05] You do? Absolutely.

[00:11:06] You really do.

[00:11:07] There are times that's happened to me.

[00:11:08] Like, I'll watch something straight out the gate.

[00:11:09] I'm like, oh, yeah, that was okay.

[00:11:11] I liked it.

[00:11:11] I binge everything.

[00:11:12] And then the next day, I'm like...

[00:11:13] I will forget it.

[00:11:13] Wait, no, I didn't like that.

[00:11:15] I'm like, wait, no, I don't think I want to rewatch that again.

[00:11:18] That means I didn't like it.

[00:11:21] So...

[00:11:22] But, yeah, the...

[00:11:24] Dune...

[00:11:25] Dune, man.

[00:11:25] I think if anyone is really wanting to get into sci-fi,

[00:11:30] just try...

[00:11:31] Try Dune first.

[00:11:33] Go into Dune.

[00:11:34] Just try.

[00:11:34] Because it's...

[00:11:36] It's so fascinating.

[00:11:37] It's so deep.

[00:11:39] And Paul from Heavy Spoilers and I talked once about that they're really going in.

[00:11:46] Yeah.

[00:11:49] And...

[00:11:49] Heavy Spoilers.

[00:11:51] But, yeah, we were talking about how they're actually doing this franchise.

[00:11:56] Like, the whole...

[00:11:57] And that's never been done before.

[00:11:59] The closest it's been done was on the Sci-Fi Channel in the early 2000s.

[00:12:03] They...

[00:12:03] And I owned...

[00:12:04] I own both miniseries on DVD.

[00:12:07] Physical copies, man.

[00:12:09] But anyway...

[00:12:12] That's the only time it's ever really been done.

[00:12:14] And even then, it wasn't really...

[00:12:17] It's the best interpretation that we've had so far.

[00:12:20] But the people that have never read the books and they think, oh, yay, Paul.

[00:12:27] I know everything.

[00:12:28] He's the hero.

[00:12:30] We're like, no.

[00:12:32] Oh, and when you see a clickbait article saying, I know all about this and that, I'm like,

[00:12:36] oh, no, no, no, you're just going off the IMDb reviews and pretending that you've seen it.

[00:12:40] Don't you dare say...

[00:12:43] Paul is literally Space Hitler and his son, Leto II, God Emperor Leto, is like ultra mega Space

[00:12:54] Hitler.

[00:12:55] If anyone is a hero in the Dune series, honestly, it's Duncan Idaho.

[00:13:01] That poor guy.

[00:13:04] And they were doing that with Foundation, which is only loosely Asimov-inspired.

[00:13:09] And I saw people...

[00:13:10] It's still a good show.

[00:13:11] Yeah, no, I love it a lot.

[00:13:12] But anyone who says, oh, I got it.

[00:13:15] I'm like, okay, you can't translate this all in just even free paragraphs.

[00:13:20] Yeah, like, really?

[00:13:20] Can you explain it to me then?

[00:13:21] Because I don't...

[00:13:22] I barely understand what's happening.

[00:13:25] I do, but I don't know how to put it into words.

[00:13:28] So I'm going to have to literally, like, read a recap and then put it into my own words

[00:13:32] to just translate that.

[00:13:34] But I saw people being very dangerous online saying, oh, look how handsome the tyrant is

[00:13:39] online.

[00:13:39] I'm like, oh, don't even joke about that.

[00:13:43] That dude killed millions.

[00:13:45] Don't...

[00:13:45] No, stop.

[00:13:46] Yeah.

[00:13:47] So with Lovecraft, you know, I still have not read the book.

[00:13:51] I should someday, but it was just being promoted on NPR.

[00:13:55] I hear the frightening clip that's from the pilot where, you know, it's in the 50s and the

[00:14:00] backwards sundown states.

[00:14:02] They're pulling the couple over and then all hell breaks loose from the supernatural creatures.

[00:14:08] What made you want to say, whoa, you know, it feels actually experimenting.

[00:14:12] They had me at Lovecraft.

[00:14:15] I was...

[00:14:16] Honestly, they had me at Lovecraft.

[00:14:19] I mean, Lovecraft...

[00:14:22] Lovecraft really...

[00:14:24] He gets weird.

[00:14:25] He gets dark and he gets weird.

[00:14:28] But it's always something that makes you think.

[00:14:31] So I thought that was...

[00:14:36] It's a bit of a risk for HBO to take on Lovecraft.

[00:14:39] Like any...

[00:14:40] Even if it's just inspired by his many, many stories, it's a bit of a risk because Lovecraft

[00:14:46] is not for everyone at all.

[00:14:51] That is...

[00:14:52] That is...

[00:14:54] You really have to be really into it.

[00:14:58] But I mean, you have Lovecraft and there's magic and Jonathan Majors, who is just a phenomenal

[00:15:06] actor.

[00:15:07] It would be absolutely wonderful if he could get his stuff together so he can get back to

[00:15:12] work because he's such a master of his craft.

[00:15:17] It was before the scandal.

[00:15:18] But yeah, he was really good here.

[00:15:19] Oh, he was amazing.

[00:15:20] And that's what...

[00:15:21] I think this was my first real introduction to him.

[00:15:24] I might have seen him in something else before.

[00:15:26] I had seen him in other stuff, but I didn't...

[00:15:28] Again, I didn't know who he was.

[00:15:30] And Julie Smollett, same deal.

[00:15:32] I'm like, oh my word.

[00:15:33] She's been in sitcoms and everything.

[00:15:35] Oh, that's Michelle's friend from Full House.

[00:15:39] She'll always be Michelle's friend to me.

[00:15:41] That's Michelle's friend.

[00:15:43] Right?

[00:15:44] Yeah.

[00:15:45] She's done all kinds of stuff.

[00:15:47] She just did a revenge movie with Allison Janney.

[00:15:49] She's one of the kids in Eve's Bayou.

[00:15:52] Yeah.

[00:15:52] Yeah, that's right.

[00:15:53] You might have seen her in the revenge film Lou as well as Birds of Prey.

[00:15:58] Oh, yes.

[00:15:58] That's right.

[00:15:59] She was in Birds of Prey.

[00:16:00] She was Black Canary.

[00:16:03] Yes.

[00:16:04] I've been a fan since The Great Debaters with Denzel.

[00:16:07] And she was in Roll Bounce as well.

[00:16:09] But yes, Full House, that's some extra cred.

[00:16:14] But what moments do you think just stand out in your mind where you're like,

[00:16:17] that is an acid dream come to life.

[00:16:20] And it's pitch perfect.

[00:16:21] And it gives me the chills just thinking about it.

[00:16:24] It's been I was rewatching it today.

[00:16:26] I only got about halfway through.

[00:16:29] I like to prep.

[00:16:31] And it's been such a long time since I actually watched it.

[00:16:35] But the when they're in the woods.

[00:16:41] And the monsters pop up.

[00:16:45] I mean, the.

[00:16:48] It's funny how they'll pop up.

[00:16:50] Sometimes it gets them out of their already sticky situation.

[00:16:52] Other times they come out like and they have to, you know, just.

[00:16:56] The lingering shots.

[00:16:58] Get the book.

[00:16:59] Get the book.

[00:17:00] Open it up.

[00:17:02] Letitia's reaction to them was very, very.

[00:17:06] I mean, how did you pull that girl?

[00:17:09] Did they like throw something at you?

[00:17:11] Did they surprise you to get that reaction?

[00:17:14] Because that was a really good.

[00:17:19] You felt that.

[00:17:21] Another scene that I really felt.

[00:17:24] And it wasn't like.

[00:17:27] You know, like a monstery scene.

[00:17:29] It was when his.

[00:17:32] Uncle, who's actually his dad.

[00:17:35] George dies in the backseat of the car.

[00:17:39] While his.

[00:17:41] While Montrose is holding him.

[00:17:43] And Jonathan Majors.

[00:17:46] Just absolutely.

[00:17:48] Wrenches your soul.

[00:17:50] From your body.

[00:17:51] And shows it to you on screen.

[00:17:53] What a way.

[00:17:54] And that's.

[00:17:54] That's the first few episodes.

[00:17:56] And you're like.

[00:17:56] Oh, wow.

[00:17:57] This got real.

[00:17:58] That's the.

[00:17:59] I think that was the second episode.

[00:18:01] But either way.

[00:18:02] Like.

[00:18:02] He just.

[00:18:03] It was.

[00:18:04] He was so visceral.

[00:18:06] The way he emoted.

[00:18:08] It was just.

[00:18:09] So impressive.

[00:18:10] My boyfriend.

[00:18:12] Who really doesn't.

[00:18:13] Care about this stuff.

[00:18:14] And this poor man.

[00:18:16] If.

[00:18:16] If I weren't here with him.

[00:18:18] He would never watch this stuff.

[00:18:20] But because he lives with me.

[00:18:22] It's literally all he gets to watch on television.

[00:18:25] God bless him.

[00:18:26] So.

[00:18:27] You know.

[00:18:27] Most houses.

[00:18:28] Dad is in charge of the remote.

[00:18:29] Not here.

[00:18:30] It's mom.

[00:18:31] It's 100% mom.

[00:18:33] Um.

[00:18:34] And even he will say.

[00:18:35] Like.

[00:18:36] That dude.

[00:18:37] Is a hell of an actor.

[00:18:39] Like.

[00:18:39] He is just.

[00:18:40] I am feeling.

[00:18:42] That.

[00:18:43] So.

[00:18:43] Absolutely.

[00:18:44] I don't think anyone phoned it in.

[00:18:45] And Christina was.

[00:18:47] Oh no.

[00:18:47] On relenting.

[00:18:48] You know.

[00:18:48] Absolutely.

[00:18:49] Her dark magic she's doing.

[00:18:51] All the other deputies.

[00:18:53] Uh.

[00:18:53] And the other crooks in the town.

[00:18:55] Like.

[00:18:55] They were good.

[00:18:56] Uh.

[00:18:56] But.

[00:18:57] Hey.

[00:18:58] You'll love this.

[00:18:59] I'm.

[00:18:59] It took me like.

[00:19:00] Three days to finish.

[00:19:02] Uh.

[00:19:03] Uh.

[00:19:03] A few years back.

[00:19:04] You know.

[00:19:05] I'm binging.

[00:19:05] I'm binging.

[00:19:06] And I.

[00:19:07] I just start just.

[00:19:08] Erupting man tears.

[00:19:10] In the finale.

[00:19:10] I'm like.

[00:19:11] If they fucking kill her.

[00:19:12] I fucking quit.

[00:19:13] You know.

[00:19:13] I'm just like.

[00:19:14] Don't do this to me.

[00:19:15] I'm like.

[00:19:17] And of course.

[00:19:18] It's a fake out.

[00:19:18] But it.

[00:19:19] It felt earned.

[00:19:20] As opposed to like.

[00:19:21] Just some other ones.

[00:19:21] Where you're just like.

[00:19:22] Oh no.

[00:19:23] No.

[00:19:24] No.

[00:19:24] No.

[00:19:24] No.

[00:19:25] Too much.

[00:19:25] You went too far.

[00:19:26] You know.

[00:19:26] Uh huh.

[00:19:27] And.

[00:19:28] When they're at the one party.

[00:19:30] And both the monsters are attacking.

[00:19:33] And.

[00:19:34] Like.

[00:19:34] The cops are trying to raid it.

[00:19:36] And do an illegal.

[00:19:37] You know.

[00:19:37] Racial profile raid.

[00:19:38] And.

[00:19:39] It's like.

[00:19:40] They.

[00:19:40] They managed to have the book.

[00:19:42] Like.

[00:19:42] Conjure up a shield.

[00:19:43] Like.

[00:19:44] I'll just never forget.

[00:19:45] This is like.

[00:19:46] The.

[00:19:46] The duo has just the most amusing.

[00:19:48] Shit eating grin.

[00:19:49] Like.

[00:19:49] Okay.

[00:19:50] We're out of here.

[00:19:52] We're getting.

[00:19:52] When.

[00:19:53] When Leticia.

[00:19:55] And.

[00:19:56] Ruby get that house.

[00:19:57] When she buys that house.

[00:19:59] That new house.

[00:19:59] And they have.

[00:20:00] And as soon as they get there.

[00:20:02] Like.

[00:20:02] Oh.

[00:20:02] Guess what.

[00:20:03] It's haunted.

[00:20:04] It's so haunted.

[00:20:05] It's like crazy haunted.

[00:20:07] Right.

[00:20:07] By.

[00:20:08] An evil.

[00:20:09] Dead.

[00:20:10] Rich guy.

[00:20:11] Who was a part of this.

[00:20:12] Sons of Adam cult.

[00:20:14] It really is too good to be true.

[00:20:16] Yeah.

[00:20:16] All these.

[00:20:17] And all the spirits of the people.

[00:20:19] He experimented on.

[00:20:21] And.

[00:20:22] She.

[00:20:22] Basically.

[00:20:23] Exercises the house.

[00:20:25] With.

[00:20:26] Tech.

[00:20:27] And.

[00:20:28] Holding the.

[00:20:29] The hands of the spirits.

[00:20:30] Like the spirits come in.

[00:20:31] And they start to help.

[00:20:33] And it's just.

[00:20:34] It's so wild.

[00:20:36] It's so wild.

[00:20:37] And then the next day.

[00:20:38] Christina comes by.

[00:20:40] And she can't get in the house.

[00:20:42] And she's like.

[00:20:43] What?

[00:20:44] When did you evict Horace?

[00:20:46] Right.

[00:20:47] Yeah.

[00:20:47] She's like.

[00:20:47] Oh.

[00:20:48] You bought this house.

[00:20:49] Didn't you?

[00:20:49] She's so wild.

[00:20:50] It has such an irony.

[00:20:52] It's like.

[00:20:53] You have all these.

[00:20:53] I mean.

[00:20:54] That's true.

[00:20:54] Like.

[00:20:55] When you reveal.

[00:20:56] Even all the other undead guys.

[00:20:57] They're not even completely in control.

[00:20:58] Because like.

[00:20:59] Our heroes.

[00:21:00] Like.

[00:21:00] Reject them immediately.

[00:21:01] It's like.

[00:21:02] No.

[00:21:04] It's too good to be true.

[00:21:05] You know.

[00:21:06] And.

[00:21:06] There was just enough build up.

[00:21:08] Like.

[00:21:08] Leticia was already.

[00:21:10] You know.

[00:21:10] Not so optimistic.

[00:21:11] She's like.

[00:21:11] This is going to be the worst.

[00:21:12] You know.

[00:21:13] Family trip ever.

[00:21:15] And.

[00:21:15] Our.

[00:21:16] You know.

[00:21:16] Our other protagonist.

[00:21:17] You know.

[00:21:17] He's just gone home from the Korean War.

[00:21:19] You know.

[00:21:19] It's like.

[00:21:20] Oh.

[00:21:20] Yes.

[00:21:22] I assume.

[00:21:23] I'm shell shocked.

[00:21:24] It was that.

[00:21:27] That.

[00:21:27] That girl.

[00:21:28] See.

[00:21:29] I haven't gotten that.

[00:21:30] That far.

[00:21:31] Into my.

[00:21:31] My rewatch.

[00:21:32] But.

[00:21:33] Yeah.

[00:21:33] I do remember.

[00:21:35] His.

[00:21:35] Girlfriend.

[00:21:36] From Korea.

[00:21:37] Who turned out to be.

[00:21:39] One of those.

[00:21:41] Succubus.

[00:21:41] Yeah.

[00:21:42] Succubus.

[00:21:42] Well.

[00:21:43] It's a fox demon.

[00:21:44] With like.

[00:21:44] Nine tails.

[00:21:45] And.

[00:21:46] It's.

[00:21:47] Crazy.

[00:21:49] Well.

[00:21:50] And again.

[00:21:50] It goes back to an irony.

[00:21:52] Like.

[00:21:52] She's in a.

[00:21:53] Pretty lowbrow profession.

[00:21:55] And.

[00:21:56] She has to use it to cover up.

[00:21:58] Already the fact that she's been disowned by her mother.

[00:22:00] You know.

[00:22:00] Right.

[00:22:01] When she says you're a monster.

[00:22:02] You know.

[00:22:03] She doesn't realize how true that actually is.

[00:22:05] That this.

[00:22:06] This made me.

[00:22:07] Even research.

[00:22:08] And I love it when fiction can.

[00:22:10] Have some social commentary.

[00:22:11] I mean.

[00:22:12] I had.

[00:22:12] I was clueless.

[00:22:14] About the.

[00:22:15] Tulsa race massacre.

[00:22:16] From 21.

[00:22:17] And the.

[00:22:18] Cicero race riots.

[00:22:20] You know.

[00:22:20] I'm.

[00:22:20] I had heard bad things that happened in Tulsa.

[00:22:23] But.

[00:22:23] You know.

[00:22:24] I didn't teach this in school.

[00:22:26] So.

[00:22:26] I'm just like.

[00:22:27] I'm like.

[00:22:27] Man.

[00:22:28] How.

[00:22:29] You know.

[00:22:30] It's an adventure.

[00:22:31] One.

[00:22:32] Episode.

[00:22:32] And.

[00:22:33] You know.

[00:22:33] There's an Indiana Jones tribute.

[00:22:34] At.

[00:22:34] I think.

[00:22:35] I think.

[00:22:35] In episode four.

[00:22:36] You know.

[00:22:36] Oh.

[00:22:37] Yes.

[00:22:37] That was.

[00:22:38] I was going to say.

[00:22:38] That was a crazy.

[00:22:39] They go to that museum.

[00:22:41] And they go underneath it.

[00:22:42] They find the.

[00:22:45] Little plank.

[00:22:46] They walk across.

[00:22:47] And they find that ship.

[00:22:48] I missed it.

[00:22:49] The first time around.

[00:22:50] I thought people being cynical.

[00:22:51] But then I resolde.

[00:22:52] Like.

[00:22:52] Oh.

[00:22:53] Okay.

[00:22:53] I see what people are talking about.

[00:22:54] Yeah.

[00:22:55] There was an.

[00:22:56] Actual.

[00:22:57] Um.

[00:22:58] Oh.

[00:22:58] I can't remember her tribe.

[00:23:00] Which is.

[00:23:01] Really upsetting.

[00:23:03] Um.

[00:23:03] But they found.

[00:23:04] A Native American woman.

[00:23:06] Who had been trapped there.

[00:23:07] She was.

[00:23:08] What they called two spirited.

[00:23:09] She was both male and female.

[00:23:11] And.

[00:23:12] Oh.

[00:23:12] Take her out of there.

[00:23:14] Arawak.

[00:23:15] That's what she was.

[00:23:15] She was an Arawak.

[00:23:17] Yes.

[00:23:18] And.

[00:23:19] They take her.

[00:23:20] Yahima.

[00:23:21] Yahima.

[00:23:22] That's it.

[00:23:23] So.

[00:23:23] We'll return.

[00:23:25] After these messages.

[00:24:54] Titus put us.

[00:24:55] Titus is actually my dog's name by the way.

[00:24:58] They put.

[00:24:59] Titus had cursed her.

[00:25:01] That if she ever left the ship.

[00:25:03] She couldn't speak.

[00:25:04] She became a siren.

[00:25:05] And she could only wail.

[00:25:07] And I'm like.

[00:25:08] Oh.

[00:25:08] Oh that's miserable.

[00:25:10] But girl you're free.

[00:25:11] Did you expect them to.

[00:25:13] Go into outer space.

[00:25:14] In that one dimension.

[00:25:16] Oh no.

[00:25:17] That was super cool.

[00:25:18] It was so funny.

[00:25:19] It was like.

[00:25:19] It took me a while to adjust.

[00:25:20] I'm like.

[00:25:21] Where are they going?

[00:25:22] Oh.

[00:25:22] Oh.

[00:25:23] And the people.

[00:25:25] She's fighting.

[00:25:26] I love.

[00:25:26] I love.

[00:25:27] Plan members.

[00:25:27] I love Hippolyta's.

[00:25:29] Stuff fighting.

[00:25:29] Yeah.

[00:25:30] I love Hippolyta's stories.

[00:25:32] I really love.

[00:25:33] What they did with her character.

[00:25:35] First of all.

[00:25:36] Her name is Hippolyta.

[00:25:37] Which is actually Hippolyta.

[00:25:40] Queen of the Amazons.

[00:25:41] And her daughter's name is Diana.

[00:25:43] It's a total Wonder Woman reference.

[00:25:44] It's so cool.

[00:25:46] That's true.

[00:25:47] Yeah.

[00:25:47] I love it.

[00:25:48] I'm very very meta.

[00:25:50] I'm the biggest Wonder Woman fan ever.

[00:25:52] So.

[00:25:53] Oh.

[00:25:54] That.

[00:25:54] That definitely roped me in.

[00:25:57] Oh.

[00:25:57] I.

[00:25:57] Were you familiar with.

[00:25:59] And Jawan Ellis prior to this.

[00:26:00] Like.

[00:26:01] Have you seen her in anything?

[00:26:02] I think so.

[00:26:04] I think I have.

[00:26:05] But I can't name it.

[00:26:06] No.

[00:26:07] No.

[00:26:07] It's fine.

[00:26:07] I recognize her.

[00:26:08] So like.

[00:26:09] She and Courtney B.

[00:26:09] Vance are now on a legal show.

[00:26:11] And she's playing a politician.

[00:26:12] But like.

[00:26:13] She's been on one of the NCIS spinoffs.

[00:26:15] She was the vice president on Designated Survivor.

[00:26:17] And she was so awesome.

[00:26:19] Oh.

[00:26:19] She's like.

[00:26:20] That's where I've seen her from.

[00:26:21] That was a good show.

[00:26:22] It is.

[00:26:23] Coming soon.

[00:26:24] Favorite moments of that.

[00:26:24] But like.

[00:26:25] I just loved how she's just like.

[00:26:27] Respectfully.

[00:26:27] Master President.

[00:26:28] I.

[00:26:29] Absolutely disagree.

[00:26:31] And here.

[00:26:33] It is wild how.

[00:26:35] You don't think she's going to factor into this much.

[00:26:37] You think.

[00:26:37] Okay.

[00:26:37] After episode two.

[00:26:38] She's just.

[00:26:39] You know.

[00:26:40] Housewife.

[00:26:40] I was like.

[00:26:41] No.

[00:26:41] No.

[00:26:41] She's got a backstory.

[00:26:42] She.

[00:26:43] And it's so funny when she gets the realization.

[00:26:45] I have as much to do with this.

[00:26:47] As everybody else.

[00:26:49] I didn't think about it.

[00:26:50] Because I just thought they were out of town.

[00:26:52] You know.

[00:26:52] On a bad.

[00:26:53] You know.

[00:26:53] Right.

[00:26:54] Right.

[00:26:56] They looked like they'd just seen a ghost.

[00:26:58] And oh.

[00:26:58] They've seen something.

[00:26:59] But.

[00:27:00] Yeah.

[00:27:00] For sure.

[00:27:02] And yeah.

[00:27:03] For her to go into that dimension.

[00:27:05] And be like.

[00:27:06] Oh.

[00:27:06] And.

[00:27:06] And become like this.

[00:27:08] She becomes.

[00:27:10] An Amazonian queen.

[00:27:12] Yes.

[00:27:12] Like of course she does.

[00:27:14] It.

[00:27:15] So cool.

[00:27:16] Good for her.

[00:27:17] And I want to become an Amazonian queen.

[00:27:19] Let's do it man.

[00:27:20] But.

[00:27:22] She.

[00:27:23] She's an LGBTQ symbol.

[00:27:25] And she.

[00:27:25] She's been starring in so many other.

[00:27:27] Just big movies and shows recently.

[00:27:30] Um.

[00:27:31] But.

[00:27:31] Yeah.

[00:27:32] Like.

[00:27:32] When they first escape.

[00:27:34] Like.

[00:27:35] Uh.

[00:27:35] The household.

[00:27:36] You know.

[00:27:36] And all.

[00:27:37] The undead are.

[00:27:39] Occupied and everything.

[00:27:40] Like.

[00:27:40] Uh huh.

[00:27:41] Uh.

[00:27:41] Then there's some other destruction.

[00:27:42] When they escape.

[00:27:43] And I.

[00:27:44] I just loved how.

[00:27:45] At the end of each episode.

[00:27:47] I would have to look at a recap.

[00:27:49] You know.

[00:27:49] Just to follow along.

[00:27:50] And I'm like.

[00:27:51] Who is that ghost.

[00:27:53] Who they saw at the very.

[00:27:54] You know.

[00:27:54] Last minute.

[00:27:55] You know.

[00:27:56] Just wait till the next episode.

[00:27:57] And.

[00:27:58] It just angered me to death.

[00:27:59] Because I would read a recap.

[00:28:01] And the reviewers could not have been more impatient.

[00:28:03] It's like.

[00:28:04] Guys.

[00:28:04] It's a serialized show.

[00:28:07] Uh huh.

[00:28:08] You're not going to know anything until the next episode.

[00:28:10] Be patient.

[00:28:11] Or binge it.

[00:28:11] No.

[00:28:12] Shit.

[00:28:13] They.

[00:28:14] The.

[00:28:15] The.

[00:28:15] They really ruined television after the 2007.

[00:28:18] I guess so.

[00:28:20] Because.

[00:28:21] Up until then.

[00:28:23] Up until then.

[00:28:25] We had.

[00:28:26] Regular.

[00:28:28] Serialized.

[00:28:29] TV.

[00:28:29] We had.

[00:28:30] Seasons.

[00:28:31] Every.

[00:28:32] Single.

[00:28:32] Year.

[00:28:33] Okay.

[00:28:33] There was no two.

[00:28:34] Three years.

[00:28:35] In between seasons.

[00:28:37] We had seasons every year.

[00:28:39] And they were anywhere from 20 to 26.

[00:28:41] Episodes.

[00:28:42] Long.

[00:28:43] Yes.

[00:28:44] After the 2007.

[00:28:46] Writer's strike.

[00:28:47] They were like.

[00:28:48] You know.

[00:28:49] Europe.

[00:28:49] Great Britain.

[00:28:51] We gotta force feed you.

[00:28:52] Six.

[00:28:53] To ten.

[00:28:53] Episodes.

[00:28:55] A year.

[00:28:56] And it's fine.

[00:28:57] I think we should do that.

[00:28:59] It's fine.

[00:28:59] And what they've done is.

[00:29:01] They've.

[00:29:02] They have bloated.

[00:29:03] The budget.

[00:29:04] Yet.

[00:29:05] They're not really paying.

[00:29:06] The special effects artists.

[00:29:08] And stuff.

[00:29:11] Much.

[00:29:12] Um.

[00:29:13] But they bloat the budget.

[00:29:15] And they try to do.

[00:29:16] They elongate everything.

[00:29:18] Well.

[00:29:18] They try.

[00:29:19] They try to do these.

[00:29:21] Insanely.

[00:29:22] Cinematic.

[00:29:23] Epic.

[00:29:24] Seasons.

[00:29:25] Like.

[00:29:25] Oh.

[00:29:25] This is gonna be.

[00:29:26] This is the thing that's gonna change everything this year.

[00:29:28] And this is gonna be the thing.

[00:29:30] But they're not.

[00:29:34] It's like.

[00:29:34] No.

[00:29:35] I know what you mean.

[00:29:36] They.

[00:29:36] They.

[00:29:36] And everyone.

[00:29:37] All the creativity is gone.

[00:29:39] Oh.

[00:29:39] It's gone.

[00:29:40] And we have to wait two or three years.

[00:29:42] In between seasons.

[00:29:44] And.

[00:29:45] Several things happen.

[00:29:46] When they do that.

[00:29:47] And they wait on the actors to carry it.

[00:29:49] And it's like.

[00:29:50] The actor left.

[00:29:50] Because they're bored waiting on you.

[00:29:52] To get it together.

[00:29:53] You know.

[00:29:54] This is so funny.

[00:29:55] It's.

[00:29:55] It's not just that.

[00:29:56] It's one.

[00:29:57] They.

[00:29:57] They wait too long.

[00:29:59] So yeah.

[00:30:00] Actors will probably move on.

[00:30:01] And get other jobs.

[00:30:02] But.

[00:30:03] For the audience.

[00:30:05] A lot of us.

[00:30:06] Are middle-aged.

[00:30:07] A lot of us are busy.

[00:30:09] Stressed out.

[00:30:10] We're gonna forget.

[00:30:11] Yeah.

[00:30:12] We're gonna forget everything that went on.

[00:30:14] And we.

[00:30:14] Do not have time.

[00:30:16] To sit and re-watch.

[00:30:17] Your show.

[00:30:18] Every single.

[00:30:20] Every other year.

[00:30:21] Or whenever it comes out.

[00:30:22] So.

[00:30:23] One.

[00:30:24] We.

[00:30:24] We forget.

[00:30:26] We move on.

[00:30:27] We just get tired of it.

[00:30:28] And.

[00:30:29] It.

[00:30:30] It.

[00:30:30] It seems.

[00:30:31] Kind of pointless.

[00:30:31] When we do get it.

[00:30:32] It's six episodes long.

[00:30:34] And.

[00:30:35] It really.

[00:30:37] Doesn't deliver.

[00:30:38] Like it should.

[00:30:38] It still leaves us wanting.

[00:30:40] So we get tired of it.

[00:30:41] And then people like me.

[00:30:43] Just re-watch.

[00:30:45] Old.

[00:30:45] Nineties.

[00:30:46] Shows.

[00:30:47] From the sci-fi channel.

[00:30:48] There you go.

[00:30:49] Because there's.

[00:30:50] Yeah.

[00:30:51] Nothing else on.

[00:30:54] I'm catching up on stuff.

[00:30:55] I should have seen by now.

[00:30:56] But I.

[00:30:57] Just didn't have a chance.

[00:30:57] But yeah.

[00:30:58] The.

[00:30:58] The gal.

[00:30:59] In the.

[00:30:59] The fire.

[00:31:00] The grandmother.

[00:31:00] The.

[00:31:01] Reveals.

[00:31:02] Yes.

[00:31:03] And Regina Taylor.

[00:31:04] She's been in everything.

[00:31:05] Always.

[00:31:06] Again.

[00:31:07] Godmotherly voice.

[00:31:08] So how appropriate.

[00:31:09] But like.

[00:31:10] Uh.

[00:31:11] Isn't so wild when she reveals.

[00:31:13] Hers.

[00:31:13] Herself.

[00:31:13] And you're like.

[00:31:14] You know.

[00:31:15] I started just blinking twice.

[00:31:17] I'm like.

[00:31:17] Did I see what I thought I saw?

[00:31:19] It's like.

[00:31:19] Yeah.

[00:31:20] And she leads him out of the house.

[00:31:22] Yeah.

[00:31:23] He's about to.

[00:31:24] Atticus is about to burn to death.

[00:31:25] And she's like.

[00:31:26] Come with me.

[00:31:27] Look.

[00:31:28] Without even saying it.

[00:31:28] Come here.

[00:31:29] Yeah.

[00:31:30] I'll lead you out.

[00:31:32] You're not dying here.

[00:31:34] The legacy is going to live on.

[00:31:36] Yeah.

[00:31:36] I think that's just it.

[00:31:37] It's a family legacy show.

[00:31:38] In between.

[00:31:39] The survivals.

[00:31:41] I'm.

[00:31:41] I'm a little sad.

[00:31:43] That they decided.

[00:31:44] Okay.

[00:31:45] Well.

[00:31:46] We're going to make it.

[00:31:47] Where.

[00:31:47] No white people.

[00:31:49] Can wield magic ever again.

[00:31:50] It's like.

[00:31:51] Oh.

[00:31:51] Well.

[00:31:51] It wasn't all of us.

[00:31:53] Okay.

[00:31:54] What's it all?

[00:31:54] Why can't some of us have magic?

[00:31:55] I.

[00:31:58] I'm mostly Celtic.

[00:32:00] Irish and Scottish.

[00:32:01] And.

[00:32:02] They are quite known.

[00:32:04] For being.

[00:32:05] Pretty adept.

[00:32:06] Magic wielders.

[00:32:07] I'm just saying.

[00:32:08] Druids.

[00:32:09] Have you heard of them?

[00:32:11] Yes.

[00:32:11] I have.

[00:32:12] Celtic magic is a.

[00:32:13] Is a big.

[00:32:14] Big deal.

[00:32:15] So.

[00:32:15] Yes.

[00:32:16] We have some too.

[00:32:18] And.

[00:32:18] One of the main reasons.

[00:32:20] This thing got.

[00:32:22] Killed is.

[00:32:23] Even went before the HBO.

[00:32:25] Renewal didn't go through.

[00:32:26] Apparently.

[00:32:28] Greater.

[00:32:29] Missha Green.

[00:32:29] And.

[00:32:30] The co-stars.

[00:32:32] Claimed that there was some toxic energy.

[00:32:33] Behind the scenes.

[00:32:34] Like she was kind of abusing her.

[00:32:36] Power.

[00:32:37] So.

[00:32:37] They didn't want to return.

[00:32:38] Happens a lot.

[00:32:41] These days.

[00:32:42] Yep.

[00:32:43] That was happening with Victoria Alonzo.

[00:32:45] Over at Marvel.

[00:32:47] With all the VFX houses.

[00:32:49] Dude.

[00:32:50] Yeah.

[00:32:50] Ant-Man and the Wasp.

[00:32:51] Quantumania.

[00:32:52] There were over 35.

[00:32:55] Houses.

[00:32:56] 35 VFX.

[00:32:57] Houses.

[00:32:58] That worked on that film.

[00:33:00] And Victoria Alonzo.

[00:33:02] Was so vile.

[00:33:04] To every single one of them.

[00:33:05] And threatening them.

[00:33:07] With unrealistic.

[00:33:09] Unreasonable.

[00:33:10] Time frames.

[00:33:12] And very little money.

[00:33:14] For the amount of work she was demanding.

[00:33:16] That every single one of those houses quit.

[00:33:19] Every single one.

[00:33:20] And what it resulted in.

[00:33:21] 11 scenes.

[00:33:24] 11 action scenes.

[00:33:25] Not shots.

[00:33:27] Not frames.

[00:33:29] Scenes.

[00:33:30] This is.

[00:33:31] Several.

[00:33:32] Several minutes of the movie.

[00:33:33] Okay.

[00:33:34] Like.

[00:33:35] Maybe.

[00:33:36] Anywhere from a half an hour.

[00:33:37] To.

[00:33:38] To an hour's worth.

[00:33:40] Of.

[00:33:41] Footage.

[00:33:41] Okay.

[00:33:42] So it left.

[00:33:43] 11 action scenes.

[00:33:45] That had to be cut.

[00:33:46] From the film.

[00:33:47] And resulted in.

[00:33:49] A totally different movie.

[00:33:52] I've heard about that.

[00:33:53] I've heard about.

[00:33:54] Yeah.

[00:33:54] Arad.

[00:33:55] I've heard about.

[00:33:56] What's his name?

[00:33:57] John Lester at Pixar.

[00:33:58] And you're like.

[00:33:58] Good grief.

[00:33:59] People.

[00:34:00] Yeah.

[00:34:00] Think that because they're talented.

[00:34:01] That gives them a permission.

[00:34:02] To be a jerk.

[00:34:03] If I know.

[00:34:04] And she had the absolute.

[00:34:06] Audacity.

[00:34:07] After she got fired.

[00:34:09] To say.

[00:34:10] Well.

[00:34:10] Disney did it.

[00:34:11] Because I'm a lesbian.

[00:34:13] Honey.

[00:34:13] Have you watched.

[00:34:14] A Disney anything.

[00:34:15] These days.

[00:34:17] Yeah.

[00:34:17] They love lesbians.

[00:34:18] Okay.

[00:34:19] That had nothing to do with it.

[00:34:21] But that's just so sad.

[00:34:22] When you see people.

[00:34:23] You know.

[00:34:24] Pulling the race card.

[00:34:24] Or pulling.

[00:34:25] You know.

[00:34:25] A gay card.

[00:34:26] And you're like.

[00:34:26] No.

[00:34:27] No.

[00:34:27] You got fired.

[00:34:28] Because you had multiple strikes.

[00:34:30] You know.

[00:34:30] And you've seen.

[00:34:31] With all the other stuff.

[00:34:32] It's like.

[00:34:33] This.

[00:34:33] This means.

[00:34:34] You get treated.

[00:34:35] Just like everyone else.

[00:34:36] Including.

[00:34:37] If you do a shitty job.

[00:34:39] We're going to fire you.

[00:34:40] Because there's like.

[00:34:41] A hundred more of you.

[00:34:43] Right behind you.

[00:34:44] Dying for your job.

[00:34:46] So.

[00:34:46] Be nice to people.

[00:34:48] So.

[00:34:48] You have.

[00:34:49] Ant-Man and the Wasp.

[00:34:50] Quantumania.

[00:34:51] Which.

[00:34:52] Was.

[00:34:53] Did.

[00:34:54] Let's just say.

[00:34:55] It wasn't great.

[00:34:56] It didn't go great.

[00:34:57] Yeah.

[00:34:58] And was.

[00:34:59] One of the.

[00:34:59] Had it done well.

[00:35:01] Had it done well.

[00:35:02] I think.

[00:35:03] They would have kept.

[00:35:05] Jonathan Majors.

[00:35:06] Despite.

[00:35:07] All of that.

[00:35:08] But it didn't do.

[00:35:09] Do well at all.

[00:35:10] This is the other problem too.

[00:35:12] Like.

[00:35:12] Unless you're behind.

[00:35:13] In the boardroom.

[00:35:14] Like.

[00:35:15] My other problem is.

[00:35:16] You'll see many producers.

[00:35:17] Who just cave into peer pressure.

[00:35:19] They don't actually agree.

[00:35:21] Well you've got.

[00:35:22] A lot of people.

[00:35:24] You've got a lot of people.

[00:35:25] With a lot of money.

[00:35:27] Sitting up in.

[00:35:29] Skyrise offices.

[00:35:30] Who can't even.

[00:35:33] Tell you.

[00:35:34] The colors of the rainbow.

[00:35:37] Okay.

[00:35:37] Yeah.

[00:35:38] And they are telling.

[00:35:39] Actual creative.

[00:35:41] Well.

[00:35:41] They're.

[00:35:42] They're telling.

[00:35:43] Act.

[00:35:43] The actual creatives.

[00:35:45] What to do.

[00:35:46] They are restricting them.

[00:35:48] They are limiting them.

[00:35:49] They are boxing them in.

[00:35:51] Otherwise.

[00:35:52] Yeah.

[00:35:52] Right.

[00:35:53] Or you're fired.

[00:35:53] You'll never work in this town again.

[00:35:55] You'll never work in this town again.

[00:35:57] Yeah.

[00:35:57] It's.

[00:35:58] It's an absolute threat.

[00:36:00] And as a creative.

[00:36:02] As someone who.

[00:36:03] Has been paid money.

[00:36:05] For a.

[00:36:05] A.

[00:36:06] Creative.

[00:36:07] Job.

[00:36:09] That.

[00:36:09] That.

[00:36:09] Turns.

[00:36:10] The spigot off.

[00:36:11] When you have some.

[00:36:13] Well.

[00:36:14] It.

[00:36:14] Your creativity.

[00:36:16] Is.

[00:36:17] It's a muscle.

[00:36:17] It's.

[00:36:18] It's a muscle.

[00:36:19] It's.

[00:36:20] It's.

[00:36:20] And because you're the money man.

[00:36:22] Anything you say goes.

[00:36:23] And you're like.

[00:36:24] Okay.

[00:36:24] Well.

[00:36:24] Once you have any.

[00:36:26] Start to structure.

[00:36:28] Once you try to structure.

[00:36:30] And.

[00:36:31] And restrict.

[00:36:32] And box in that creative process.

[00:36:35] It turns it off entirely.

[00:36:37] Yes.

[00:36:38] It does.

[00:36:38] It just doesn't.

[00:36:39] It just doesn't work.

[00:36:40] You might as well have been shot.

[00:36:42] Because you're just like.

[00:36:43] Well.

[00:36:43] So I can't be me.

[00:36:45] Exactly.

[00:36:46] You can't do what you were hired to do.

[00:36:48] But mortgages do.

[00:36:50] So I guess I got to stay here.

[00:36:51] Exactly.

[00:36:52] I have a dear friend.

[00:36:54] That I was literally.

[00:36:57] Just texting with.

[00:36:58] Before we hopped on.

[00:36:59] My friend.

[00:37:01] He is.

[00:37:04] Just such a.

[00:37:05] A wonderful human being.

[00:37:07] And he's been working in Hollywood.

[00:37:10] As one of the top special effects artists.

[00:37:12] Since the 80s.

[00:37:13] Since 1985.

[00:37:16] And.

[00:37:17] It is so rough right now.

[00:37:20] It is so slow.

[00:37:21] That.

[00:37:23] Many.

[00:37:24] Special effects artists.

[00:37:26] Are losing.

[00:37:28] Everything.

[00:37:29] They're losing their houses.

[00:37:30] They're.

[00:37:31] They're having to get out of the business.

[00:37:33] And do other things.

[00:37:35] I've heard about that.

[00:37:36] It's.

[00:37:36] It's.

[00:37:37] It's devastating.

[00:37:39] It's absolutely devastating.

[00:37:40] And a lot of it has to do with the.

[00:37:43] Onset of.

[00:37:45] AI.

[00:37:46] Yes.

[00:37:47] Using more.

[00:37:48] Virtual.

[00:37:49] Virtual effects.

[00:37:50] But.

[00:37:51] Visual effects.

[00:37:52] But they're.

[00:37:54] They're not even willing to pay them.

[00:37:56] No.

[00:37:56] The visual effects artists.

[00:37:57] What they deserve.

[00:37:58] But let me tell you something.

[00:38:00] I've had so many of these conversations.

[00:38:01] With everyone.

[00:38:02] I'm like guys.

[00:38:03] It's.

[00:38:03] You know.

[00:38:04] You're killing jobs.

[00:38:05] There is something.

[00:38:06] To be said.

[00:38:07] About practical effects.

[00:38:09] About special effects.

[00:38:10] There is.

[00:38:12] Look.

[00:38:12] Here's my Star Trek nerd.

[00:38:14] Coming out again.

[00:38:15] Star Trek.

[00:38:17] First content.

[00:38:18] Star Trek Generations.

[00:38:20] In.

[00:38:21] Nineteen.

[00:38:21] Ninety.

[00:38:22] Ninety.

[00:38:23] Yep.

[00:38:23] They actually crashed.

[00:38:24] A ship model.

[00:38:25] Into a planet.

[00:38:26] They sure did.

[00:38:27] They.

[00:38:27] They crashed.

[00:38:28] A saucer.

[00:38:29] It was like a nine foot.

[00:38:31] Saucer section.

[00:38:32] The only CGI.

[00:38:34] Was the ship departure.

[00:38:35] And the nexus.

[00:38:36] You know.

[00:38:37] Where they needed.

[00:38:37] They.

[00:38:38] Yeah.

[00:38:38] They.

[00:38:39] The.

[00:38:39] The land.

[00:38:41] The trees.

[00:38:42] All of that was practical.

[00:38:44] All of it.

[00:38:45] Absolutely.

[00:38:45] And it's so.

[00:38:47] Damn.

[00:38:48] Impressive.

[00:38:49] Like we were.

[00:38:50] Dave and I were watching it the other day.

[00:38:52] And I.

[00:38:53] I had to pause it.

[00:38:54] I'm like.

[00:38:54] Look at this.

[00:38:56] Look.

[00:38:56] Look how.

[00:38:57] You would never know.

[00:38:58] That that's a model.

[00:38:59] You would think that that's special effects.

[00:39:02] It.

[00:39:02] Or.

[00:39:03] You would think it's visual effects.

[00:39:04] Because it's so.

[00:39:06] Good.

[00:39:06] It looks so real.

[00:39:08] But.

[00:39:09] Michael Okuda.

[00:39:11] Michael Okuda is.

[00:39:12] An incredible.

[00:39:14] Designer.

[00:39:15] An artist.

[00:39:16] He's.

[00:39:16] He's absolutely amazing.

[00:39:18] And he's worked on Star Trek.

[00:39:20] For.

[00:39:22] Probably since the first.

[00:39:24] Star Trek.

[00:39:25] The motion picture came out in 1980.

[00:39:27] It really has.

[00:39:27] He's getting up there.

[00:39:28] Yeah.

[00:39:29] Yeah.

[00:39:30] He's got some funny political ideas.

[00:39:32] But.

[00:39:32] He's a really great.

[00:39:34] He's a really great artist.

[00:39:35] And.

[00:39:36] To see the stuff that he has.

[00:39:39] He has.

[00:39:40] Basically.

[00:39:41] Pioneered.

[00:39:42] Him and.

[00:39:43] Michael Westmore.

[00:39:45] Michael Westmore was.

[00:39:46] The.

[00:39:47] Makeup artist for Star Trek.

[00:39:49] Ever.

[00:39:50] And.

[00:39:51] To see.

[00:39:52] That.

[00:39:53] That industry is.

[00:39:54] Is dying.

[00:39:55] Especially since I just.

[00:39:56] Kind of got into it.

[00:39:58] It's just really frustrating.

[00:40:01] I.

[00:40:02] I'm telling you man.

[00:40:03] It's the kids these days.

[00:40:04] You just can't make them happy.

[00:40:06] No.

[00:40:08] But.

[00:40:10] You know.

[00:40:12] There's been something for everybody ultimately.

[00:40:14] But like you say.

[00:40:14] There's.

[00:40:15] People are also forgetting.

[00:40:18] Just.

[00:40:20] How much love goes into something.

[00:40:22] Because.

[00:40:22] Now.

[00:40:23] I think.

[00:40:23] It's just so overreactive.

[00:40:24] We'll see even more.

[00:40:26] Oh.

[00:40:26] I thought it sucked.

[00:40:27] When it comes to like home video.

[00:40:29] I'm like.

[00:40:29] You couldn't tell.

[00:40:31] No.

[00:40:32] It's like.

[00:40:33] So I think people are just also spoiled by like.

[00:40:35] A theater.

[00:40:36] They just think.

[00:40:37] I've seen it all.

[00:40:38] I know it all.

[00:40:39] I'm like.

[00:40:39] No.

[00:40:40] This didn't have any story or engaging stuff.

[00:40:43] So.

[00:40:43] It can sound great.

[00:40:45] But it doesn't change anything.

[00:40:46] No.

[00:40:47] And.

[00:40:47] I think it's a lot of.

[00:40:49] Let's just throw money at it.

[00:40:51] Because once they see how much money we're throwing at it.

[00:40:54] They'll instantly think it's.

[00:40:56] Good.

[00:40:56] They can have great production design.

[00:40:58] And quality.

[00:40:59] But if the story still sucks.

[00:41:01] Right.

[00:41:02] And.

[00:41:03] And even.

[00:41:04] And just because you spend money on it.

[00:41:06] Doesn't mean that you've hired the right people to build.

[00:41:09] These things.

[00:41:10] Like.

[00:41:11] The same friend.

[00:41:12] That I was talking to.

[00:41:14] Right before we hopped on here.

[00:41:15] We were kind of.

[00:41:17] He was giving.

[00:41:19] I'm not going to say we were sharing notes.

[00:41:21] Because.

[00:41:22] No.

[00:41:22] No.

[00:41:23] There's.

[00:41:24] There's nothing that I do.

[00:41:26] That can teach him anything about special effects.

[00:41:29] Let me make that clear.

[00:41:30] But he was giving me some tips on a certain thing I'm building.

[00:41:34] And.

[00:41:36] It's.

[00:41:37] It's stuff that I would have never learned or heard from anywhere else.

[00:41:41] And it's absolutely genius.

[00:41:43] And it makes you think like.

[00:41:45] Who the fuck are they hiring for some of these things?

[00:41:48] Because here's someone who is insanely experienced and talented.

[00:41:53] Has mentored.

[00:41:55] Dozens.

[00:41:55] If not hundreds.

[00:41:57] Of artists.

[00:41:58] And.

[00:42:00] It's just.

[00:42:01] What.

[00:42:01] What are you spending this money on?

[00:42:03] Because you're clearly not hiring the right people.

[00:42:05] Like.

[00:42:06] If you're going to.

[00:42:06] If you're going to get that much money.

[00:42:09] You can afford.

[00:42:10] To get.

[00:42:11] The best people.

[00:42:13] I.

[00:42:14] I didn't look up.

[00:42:15] And I guess I could do it now.

[00:42:17] But.

[00:42:17] The artists.

[00:42:19] On.

[00:42:20] Lovecraft Country.

[00:42:22] Were really good.

[00:42:23] I.

[00:42:23] I really didn't have notes.

[00:42:25] About the show at all.

[00:42:27] Um.

[00:42:28] And they showed up where they needed to.

[00:42:30] It was a little rough.

[00:42:32] In the first episode.

[00:42:33] But.

[00:42:33] The sound.

[00:42:34] Fully.

[00:42:35] Overall design.

[00:42:36] Like.

[00:42:37] It served its purpose.

[00:42:39] And.

[00:42:39] Yes.

[00:42:40] Uh.

[00:42:40] I mean.

[00:42:41] Anytime they're using the magic.

[00:42:42] Like.

[00:42:43] That.

[00:42:44] You know.

[00:42:44] It's just.

[00:42:46] Stunning as it needs to be.

[00:42:47] As well as it is creepy.

[00:42:49] You.

[00:42:49] You can only.

[00:42:51] And.

[00:42:51] Seeing some of the behind the scenes stuff.

[00:42:53] That was on the HBO Max app.

[00:42:55] Was a great.

[00:42:56] Because.

[00:42:56] It made me respect the production.

[00:42:58] Even more.

[00:42:58] With how.

[00:42:59] How.

[00:43:00] Far they had gone to.

[00:43:02] Trying to.

[00:43:03] Uh.

[00:43:04] You know.

[00:43:05] Not have everything be green screen.

[00:43:07] And.

[00:43:08] Okay.

[00:43:08] Build it where it needs to.

[00:43:10] It was.

[00:43:11] A man named.

[00:43:12] J.

[00:43:12] Anthony.

[00:43:13] Kosar.

[00:43:14] Heather.

[00:43:14] Boova.

[00:43:15] Boove.

[00:43:16] Sorry.

[00:43:17] Boove.

[00:43:18] And.

[00:43:18] Carrie Jones.

[00:43:20] Those were.

[00:43:21] The lead artists.

[00:43:22] Uh.

[00:43:23] Special effects artists.

[00:43:24] On Lovecraft Country.

[00:43:25] I don't know these people.

[00:43:27] Uh.

[00:43:27] My friend.

[00:43:28] Possibly might.

[00:43:29] I don't know.

[00:43:29] I want to.

[00:43:30] But.

[00:43:31] I want to.

[00:43:32] I'm looking.

[00:43:34] I'm looking at some of.

[00:43:36] You know.

[00:43:37] The stills.

[00:43:38] Some of their concept designs.

[00:43:39] And some.

[00:43:39] Behind the scenes.

[00:43:41] Actual art.

[00:43:42] Like.

[00:43:43] Um.

[00:43:43] What did we say?

[00:43:44] The Arawak.

[00:43:45] Lady's name was again.

[00:43:46] Was it.

[00:43:48] Yeah.

[00:43:49] Not Yamaya.

[00:43:50] That's my niece's name.

[00:43:51] Oh.

[00:43:52] Uh.

[00:43:53] It's true.

[00:43:54] We were just there.

[00:43:55] Yahima.

[00:43:56] That's it.

[00:43:56] Yes.

[00:43:57] Yahima.

[00:43:57] Okay.

[00:43:57] Her name is actually.

[00:43:59] On the picture.

[00:44:00] Way to go Danielle.

[00:44:01] Um.

[00:44:02] But.

[00:44:03] I'm.

[00:44:03] I'm looking at.

[00:44:05] The.

[00:44:06] The mummified.

[00:44:07] Body.

[00:44:08] She was.

[00:44:09] Before she.

[00:44:10] Came back to life.

[00:44:11] It's.

[00:44:12] So impressive.

[00:44:14] It looks so.

[00:44:16] So good.

[00:44:17] Either the way the.

[00:44:18] The lips.

[00:44:19] Kind of curl away.

[00:44:20] From the teeth.

[00:44:22] And.

[00:44:22] How the.

[00:44:23] The tattoos.

[00:44:25] Change.

[00:44:26] And.

[00:44:27] Oh my goodness.

[00:44:28] The twins.

[00:44:28] I forgot about those.

[00:44:30] Creepy ass.

[00:44:31] Twin girls.

[00:44:32] Yeah.

[00:44:33] That were following.

[00:44:34] Diana.

[00:44:35] Oh my god.

[00:44:35] They're scary.

[00:44:35] Too much of.

[00:44:37] Us.

[00:44:38] I think it was just the music.

[00:44:39] Oh yeah.

[00:44:40] Yeah.

[00:44:40] Yeah.

[00:44:41] Yeah.

[00:44:41] But.

[00:44:42] It served its purpose.

[00:44:43] I.

[00:44:43] It was basically.

[00:44:44] Kind of a breather.

[00:44:45] It's like.

[00:44:45] Okay.

[00:44:45] So.

[00:44:46] Now that they're having a moment of silence.

[00:44:48] They're still just utter bizarre magic.

[00:44:50] And.

[00:44:51] Unseen terror.

[00:44:52] That's.

[00:44:52] Plagging them.

[00:44:54] And.

[00:44:55] I mean.

[00:44:55] They've.

[00:44:56] I feel.

[00:44:57] That's great.

[00:44:58] Sorry.

[00:44:58] I didn't mean to.

[00:44:59] No.

[00:44:59] It's fine.

[00:45:00] I didn't do that.

[00:45:01] They've.

[00:45:02] You guys should really look this up.

[00:45:04] The.

[00:45:05] The art department.

[00:45:07] Shots.

[00:45:08] For Lovecraft Country.

[00:45:10] Because you get a really good look at the ghosts in the house.

[00:45:14] In Leticia's house.

[00:45:15] And.

[00:45:16] The designs are absolutely.

[00:45:18] It was a character.

[00:45:20] Dunning.

[00:45:20] As much as them.

[00:45:21] Yeah.

[00:45:22] It's just.

[00:45:22] Yeah.

[00:45:24] The.

[00:45:25] Construction.

[00:45:25] And.

[00:45:26] I mean.

[00:45:26] How about the fact that.

[00:45:29] You always get that sense that.

[00:45:31] They're going to have to run away.

[00:45:32] At any time.

[00:45:33] Even when they get comfortable.

[00:45:35] Even when.

[00:45:36] You know.

[00:45:38] They're in a less problematic part of town.

[00:45:41] There's still going to be just some other evil.

[00:45:43] That's going to disrupt their existence.

[00:45:45] And.

[00:45:47] It's just.

[00:45:48] They get that anxiety down to a T.

[00:45:51] As well as just.

[00:45:52] Yes.

[00:45:53] All the other incoming dread.

[00:45:55] It's just.

[00:45:55] Oh man.

[00:45:57] These.

[00:45:57] I'm telling you.

[00:45:58] The.

[00:45:59] The concept.

[00:46:00] The actual designs.

[00:46:01] For that Holy Ghost episode.

[00:46:05] It's just.

[00:46:07] Stunning.

[00:46:08] I mean.

[00:46:08] I.

[00:46:09] I can't draw.

[00:46:10] I don't know how I would ever be able to do this.

[00:46:13] I'm.

[00:46:13] I'm kind of the.

[00:46:14] Hey.

[00:46:14] See this.

[00:46:15] Go build that.

[00:46:16] Okay.

[00:46:16] Hey.

[00:46:17] But.

[00:46:18] My drawing.

[00:46:20] Talents are.

[00:46:21] Just.

[00:46:22] Not.

[00:46:23] Great.

[00:46:24] Yeah.

[00:46:25] I do some storyboarding.

[00:46:26] But there's other ones.

[00:46:27] Where it's like.

[00:46:28] Oh.

[00:46:28] I'm.

[00:46:29] Barely a storyboarding artist.

[00:46:31] And for me to be a special effects artist.

[00:46:33] And I'm like.

[00:46:34] I can sculpt it.

[00:46:36] But.

[00:46:38] Not going to be able to draw it for you.

[00:46:43] Oh.

[00:46:46] If you were to introduce this to anybody.

[00:46:50] Besides.

[00:46:51] People who aren't.

[00:46:51] Don't really.

[00:46:52] Pay attention to this.

[00:46:53] Who do you think it'd be?

[00:46:57] If I was to introduce.

[00:46:59] Lovecraft.

[00:46:59] Like.

[00:46:59] Any crowd.

[00:47:00] Any friends.

[00:47:01] Any.

[00:47:02] Who.

[00:47:03] Who would.

[00:47:04] Anyone.

[00:47:05] Probably.

[00:47:06] Like.

[00:47:06] Hey.

[00:47:07] Do you like.

[00:47:08] Sci-fi.

[00:47:08] And.

[00:47:09] Monster stories.

[00:47:10] And stuff.

[00:47:11] Then check out.

[00:47:12] Lovecraft country.

[00:47:13] Because I really enjoyed myself.

[00:47:14] Watching it.

[00:47:15] I.

[00:47:16] I can't say that there's a specific person.

[00:47:18] I mean.

[00:47:18] Maybe my sister.

[00:47:20] Maybe.

[00:47:21] I don't know.

[00:47:22] She's a lot.

[00:47:23] More fragile than I am.

[00:47:26] Yeah.

[00:47:27] I could probably convince some people.

[00:47:28] To watch some of it.

[00:47:29] And.

[00:47:30] As we said before.

[00:47:31] There were some people.

[00:47:31] Who wanted to just go in.

[00:47:33] Expecting it to just be mindless.

[00:47:34] You know.

[00:47:34] Violence and sleazers.

[00:47:35] Like.

[00:47:36] It's not that kind of show.

[00:47:37] Got either guys.

[00:47:37] Like.

[00:47:38] It's all.

[00:47:39] It's a very dramatic story.

[00:47:42] And.

[00:47:42] Yes.

[00:47:43] I mean.

[00:47:44] Very emotional.

[00:47:45] Very deep.

[00:47:46] Very visual.

[00:47:47] I mean.

[00:47:48] You start off with a comic book.

[00:47:49] You know.

[00:47:50] 50s style.

[00:47:51] You know.

[00:47:53] Like a live action comic book.

[00:47:55] Basically.

[00:47:55] And then.

[00:47:56] Oh yeah.

[00:47:56] His dream.

[00:47:57] Yeah.

[00:47:58] His John Carter dream.

[00:48:00] And then.

[00:48:01] All this other gothic imagery.

[00:48:03] And then.

[00:48:03] All this other.

[00:48:05] You know.

[00:48:06] It's.

[00:48:07] It's a survival tale.

[00:48:08] And it's.

[00:48:09] It paints so many bigger pictures.

[00:48:12] And.

[00:48:12] If you're not paying attention.

[00:48:14] You know.

[00:48:14] Trust us.

[00:48:15] We'll know.

[00:48:16] Yeah.

[00:48:18] And a lot of people.

[00:48:20] Just.

[00:48:20] I think that's the other problem.

[00:48:22] The generation.

[00:48:22] We got now.

[00:48:23] Wants their meat and potatoes.

[00:48:25] Now.

[00:48:26] But they don't even.

[00:48:26] Want them cooked well.

[00:48:28] Like.

[00:48:28] Well.

[00:48:28] They don't even want meat and potatoes.

[00:48:30] They just want candy.

[00:48:31] There you go.

[00:48:32] And then complain.

[00:48:33] Why does it suck?

[00:48:34] Like.

[00:48:34] Yeah.

[00:48:35] Maybe develop an appetite for something.

[00:48:37] Why am I not able to pick up this piece of paper?

[00:48:40] Why am I so tired?

[00:48:41] Yeah.

[00:48:41] Maybe because you have no actual substance.

[00:48:44] Correct.

[00:48:45] You haven't.

[00:48:46] You don't love your muscles enough to actually.

[00:48:49] You know.

[00:48:50] Treat yourself right.

[00:48:51] Right.

[00:48:51] Take some electrolytes.

[00:48:53] Damn it.

[00:48:57] Where can we find you on the interwebs?

[00:49:00] Oh.

[00:49:00] Well.

[00:49:01] I am literally everywhere.

[00:49:04] If there is a.

[00:49:05] Everywhere.

[00:49:05] I'm everywhere.

[00:49:06] If there is a social media platform.

[00:49:09] Just type in comics and.

[00:49:11] And I'll pop up.

[00:49:12] She might be chased by a Cthulhu or.

[00:49:14] Yeah.

[00:49:15] There might be Cthulhu.

[00:49:15] Who knows.

[00:49:17] On.

[00:49:17] On Twitter.

[00:49:18] And TikTok.

[00:49:19] And Instagram.

[00:49:20] It's comics and underscore.

[00:49:22] So just at comics and underscore.

[00:49:23] underscore.

[00:49:24] On YouTube.

[00:49:25] It's.

[00:49:26] Just type it at comics and everything.

[00:49:30] And make sure you get that book.

[00:49:31] Right by your side.

[00:49:32] And it's not the book of the dead.

[00:49:34] Yes.

[00:49:35] No.

[00:49:35] No.

[00:49:36] Damn it.

[00:49:37] Damn it.

[00:49:39] But no.

[00:49:40] I'm.

[00:49:40] I'm on a comic.

[00:49:41] I.

[00:49:42] My main.

[00:49:43] Sources.

[00:49:44] Is the YouTube channel.

[00:49:47] I do a live every week right now.

[00:49:50] We're watching Agatha all along.

[00:49:53] So.

[00:49:54] You can.

[00:49:55] Join us for our Agatha all along watch party.

[00:49:57] Starting in November.

[00:49:58] We will be doing a Dune prophecy.

[00:50:01] Watch party.

[00:50:01] And I am.

[00:50:02] Super stoked about that.

[00:50:04] I can't wait for it either.

[00:50:05] Oh.

[00:50:05] I'm so stoked.

[00:50:06] Um.

[00:50:07] And.

[00:50:08] Every couple weeks.

[00:50:09] I do a pre-recorded breakdown.

[00:50:11] My most recently.

[00:50:12] Ask the question.

[00:50:13] Has Star Trek made us smarter?

[00:50:16] And if you want.

[00:50:18] To know the answer to that.

[00:50:19] You'll just have to watch the video.

[00:50:21] But my next one.

[00:50:22] I talked to a.

[00:50:23] Oh go ahead.

[00:50:24] Uh.

[00:50:24] I talked to a gal who works for NASA.

[00:50:27] Who also does some.

[00:50:28] Her sci-fi stories.

[00:50:29] And.

[00:50:29] She decided she wanted to be a scientist.

[00:50:32] Just by watching.

[00:50:33] The first two Star Trek shows.

[00:50:35] So did my brother.

[00:50:36] My brother became a chemical engineer.

[00:50:38] Because of Star Trek.

[00:50:39] It's really not that uncommon.

[00:50:40] But see.

[00:50:40] I think that's why.

[00:50:41] It's really not.

[00:50:42] It has.

[00:50:42] I think that's.

[00:50:43] Why it's held so.

[00:50:45] Even more.

[00:50:46] Is just like.

[00:50:46] You see people.

[00:50:47] Who.

[00:50:48] Even wanted to become doctors.

[00:50:50] And.

[00:50:51] Oh.

[00:50:51] Absolutely.

[00:50:52] From watching the show.

[00:50:53] Well.

[00:50:53] Star Trek.

[00:50:54] Has done this amazing thing.

[00:50:56] And they found a way.

[00:50:58] To actually teach its audience.

[00:51:00] On accident.

[00:51:02] Mind you.

[00:51:02] This was entirely on accident.

[00:51:04] Yeah.

[00:51:04] But they found a way.

[00:51:05] To teach its audience.

[00:51:07] About.

[00:51:08] Very complex.

[00:51:09] Scientific concepts.

[00:51:11] By comparing it.

[00:51:12] To everyday.

[00:51:14] Things.

[00:51:15] Yep.

[00:51:16] Um.

[00:51:17] There was enough cooks in the kitchen.

[00:51:19] But it was the right amount.

[00:51:20] Yeah.

[00:51:20] Well they did.

[00:51:21] They did that.

[00:51:22] Because they had their technobabble.

[00:51:23] And they wanted to make sure.

[00:51:25] They even have a science.

[00:51:26] An actual scientist.

[00:51:27] A science advisor.

[00:51:29] On staff.

[00:51:30] On set.

[00:51:31] To make sure.

[00:51:32] That the dialogue.

[00:51:33] And.

[00:51:34] The science.

[00:51:35] Is all.

[00:51:36] Compatible.

[00:51:37] With.

[00:51:37] With modern.

[00:51:38] Known.

[00:51:39] Science.

[00:51:40] So.

[00:51:40] They.

[00:51:40] They go to great lengths.

[00:51:42] To make sure.

[00:51:43] That it's just.

[00:51:43] As plausible.

[00:51:45] As they can.

[00:51:45] Possibly be.

[00:51:47] And.

[00:51:48] In order to.

[00:51:49] Do it correctly.

[00:51:50] They're like.

[00:51:51] Well we're gonna have to say this.

[00:51:52] Crazy word.

[00:51:54] Like.

[00:51:54] People aren't gonna know what this means.

[00:51:56] So well.

[00:51:56] A hundred different.

[00:51:57] We'll do this metaphor.

[00:51:59] Comparing it to.

[00:52:00] Some common.

[00:52:01] Everyday situation.

[00:52:03] Right.

[00:52:03] That average.

[00:52:05] Joe Schmo.

[00:52:06] Can understand.

[00:52:08] After a Shakespeare character.

[00:52:09] Or a famous.

[00:52:10] You know.

[00:52:12] Star Trek taught me about all kinds of literature.

[00:52:14] I know about.

[00:52:15] I learned about Shakespeare.

[00:52:18] And.

[00:52:18] Stephen Hawking appeared on the show for God's sake.

[00:52:20] Oh of course.

[00:52:21] I learned about.

[00:52:23] Classical music.

[00:52:24] Berlioz.

[00:52:25] And Pirates of Penzance.

[00:52:27] I learned about all of that.

[00:52:29] From Star Trek.

[00:52:31] And.

[00:52:31] That.

[00:52:32] That episode.

[00:52:32] I wrote.

[00:52:34] And recorded.

[00:52:36] It.

[00:52:36] It.

[00:52:37] It was a pretty personal one.

[00:52:38] I think.

[00:52:39] Because.

[00:52:39] I felt.

[00:52:40] I felt very strongly about it.

[00:52:42] So.

[00:52:43] I hope everyone.

[00:52:45] Enjoys it.

[00:52:46] As.

[00:52:46] As much as I enjoyed making it.

[00:52:48] My next.

[00:52:49] One.

[00:52:50] Is actually going to be a breakdown.

[00:52:52] Of.

[00:52:53] The 1989 graphic novel.

[00:52:55] By James O'Barr.

[00:52:56] The Crow.

[00:52:57] And I will be.

[00:52:59] Comparing.

[00:53:00] The 1994.

[00:53:01] Brandon Lee movie.

[00:53:02] To.

[00:53:03] The dumpster fire.

[00:53:04] That just came out.

[00:53:05] About a month ago.

[00:53:08] Spoiler.

[00:53:09] Spoiler.

[00:53:10] This recent.

[00:53:11] Bill Skarsgård Crow.

[00:53:13] Has.

[00:53:14] Shit to do.

[00:53:15] With the graphic novel.

[00:53:17] So.

[00:53:18] That one's going to be easy.

[00:53:21] But my next.

[00:53:22] Star Trek video.

[00:53:23] Will be.

[00:53:24] Star Trek.

[00:53:24] And Star Wars.

[00:53:25] How they have.

[00:53:26] Influenced one another.

[00:53:28] Over the years.

[00:53:29] And what.

[00:53:30] Both franchises.

[00:53:31] Can learn.

[00:53:32] From one another.

[00:53:33] To.

[00:53:34] It's even funnier.

[00:53:36] Looking for some.

[00:53:37] Other.

[00:53:37] Just like Easter eggs.

[00:53:38] It's like.

[00:53:38] Oh my god.

[00:53:39] They just.

[00:53:39] Made a.

[00:53:40] DeLorean reference.

[00:53:41] To the warp drive.

[00:53:42] No.

[00:53:42] They just made a.

[00:53:43] Had a bunch of alien style.

[00:53:45] Like.

[00:53:45] Colonial Marines.

[00:53:46] On Enterprise.

[00:53:49] I mean.

[00:53:50] Now.

[00:53:51] With Strange New Worlds.

[00:53:51] The Gorn.

[00:53:52] Are more like.

[00:53:52] The Predator creature.

[00:53:54] Oh.

[00:53:54] I love.

[00:53:55] Strange New Worlds.

[00:53:56] I really do.

[00:53:58] I saw one person.

[00:53:59] Like.

[00:54:00] Argue about the legal episode.

[00:54:01] Like.

[00:54:01] Have you never seen Star Trek?

[00:54:03] There's always a legal episode.

[00:54:04] There's always a legal.

[00:54:05] Hello.

[00:54:06] When.

[00:54:06] When Data.

[00:54:07] Uh.

[00:54:08] When they were.

[00:54:09] Oh.

[00:54:09] He's on trial.

[00:54:10] Yeah.

[00:54:10] Yeah.

[00:54:11] They were trying.

[00:54:11] Yes.

[00:54:12] They were trying to take him.

[00:54:14] Is he human?

[00:54:14] Or is it.

[00:54:15] Exactly.

[00:54:16] Man or machine.

[00:54:18] Yeah.

[00:54:18] Yeah.

[00:54:18] There's.

[00:54:19] There's lots of.

[00:54:19] Legal drama.

[00:54:21] It's Star Trek.

[00:54:22] Has literally everything.

[00:54:23] Always one.

[00:54:24] Where a parasite.

[00:54:25] Takes over the crew.

[00:54:26] There's always one.

[00:54:27] Where someone has a nightmare.

[00:54:28] That comes to life.

[00:54:29] In the holodeck.

[00:54:30] Or something.

[00:54:30] There's always a cave.

[00:54:32] There's always a cave.

[00:54:33] There's always a cave.

[00:54:34] It goes back to Indiana Jones.

[00:54:35] Low craft style.

[00:54:37] Crawled in a cave.

[00:54:38] Yep.

[00:54:38] Yeah.

[00:54:40] Hey.

[00:54:41] You rocked it.

[00:54:42] Do debt.

[00:54:43] It was really awesome.

[00:54:44] Oh.

[00:54:47] Okay.

[00:54:47] So look for this.

[00:54:48] First week of December.

[00:54:51] Sounds good.

[00:54:52] Thank you so much.

[00:54:53] Spooky Christmas.

[00:54:56] All right, buddy.

[00:54:57] You have a good night.

[00:54:58] I'm going to take off.

[00:54:59] Sorry for delay.

[00:55:00] Get some sleep.

[00:55:00] All right.
