[00:00:23] Welcome to episode 619 of the Pittsburgh Nerd Podcast. I'm Sean. I'm Nancy, and this is the only podcast that says... We cannot escape the past. Some of us are doomed to repeat it. Grace may believe you saved her from her fate, but you and I both know you merely bought her time. But that's the pattern, isn't it? A cross you've been left to bear. The closer someone gets to you, the harder it is to keep them alive.
[00:00:52] A new day brings a new burden. The key is only the beginning. Wherever it leads, wherever it takes to get there, you'll have to do it on your own. Should you fail in your mission, the entity wins. Gabriel wins. And the world will pay the ultimate price. Should any members of your team be caught or killed, their sacrifice will have been in vain.
[00:01:16] So hurry. There isn't much time. The world doesn't know it, but they're counting on you. Good luck, Ethan. Ah, ha, ha. Okay. Okay. That's the... I'm with ya. That's the last lines from the last Mission Impossible. Right, right, right. Dead Reckoning. Yeah. The final Reckoning over this weekend, I haven't had a chance to see it yet. I'm probably going to go next weekend.
[00:01:46] Yeah. So I do want to see that in a theater. I don't blame you. I just don't know if they're, you know, is it really the final final? I think, you know, it far be for me to be like, you know, this is what Tom Cruise is thinking. But, I mean, they've done nine of these.
[00:02:11] Nine. See, that was what we were trying to do yesterday with that looking it up. Count how many there were. And, yeah, we guessed eight. Yeah. I mean, like, and they've done very well. Right. But I feel like, I mean, Tom Cruise is, like, you can say he's a vampire because he fucking is. He fucking is.
[00:02:38] But at some point, like, as amazing as he has been, like, with the stunts and everything else that he does, like, I hate to break it to him. But, you know, father time is undefeated. Yeah. You know, at some point. Yes. It's going to catch up with you. Yes.
[00:03:00] And it's that thing of, like, well, when do you, like, take the bow out gracefully? Right. And last week me and Ian, like, talked about his career. Like, the guy has so few bad movies in his cachet that he's done. Right. You know, and, like, how much longer can you be that physical and that intense?
[00:03:29] Yeah. I mean, there's a few of them out there that have to start thinking about that. Not only Tom Cruise. Right. No, but, like, Tom Cruise is probably the biggest one because of his age. Right. Like, nobody does it at this age. Right. You know, like, any, like, even, like, the great action stars. Like, you look at, like, Stallone and Schwarzenegger. You know, Stallone's pulled back quite a bit. Mm-hmm. You know?
[00:03:59] So is Schwarzenegger. So is Schwarzenegger. But it's that, it's that. Unfortunately. But, I mean, but for both of them, though, it's like, like, Stallone's doing that show on Paramount Plus, Tulsa King. Oh, yeah. Like, he's still acting. Yeah. But he's not, like, getting into the ring being Rocky or he's not Rambo anymore. Like, you know, he's had. He doesn't kick ass, though. Yes. I mean, there are fight sequences and stuff. Like one kicker punch.
[00:04:29] Yeah. I mean, it's. For ass kicking. It's very reminiscent of watching Chuck Norris get old on Walker, Texas Stranger. Oh, wow. You know, Sabine. But, like, so to answer your, in a roundabout way to, like, kind of like answer your question, like, yes, I do think this is the final run for him in the Mission Impossible movies.
[00:04:55] Now, do I think maybe, like, Paramount says, like, we have this winning IP. How can we reboot it? Or, you know, what can we do to kickstart it for a new action star or a current action star? Like, the one that they always talk about, like, to replace him is the guy who was in a, he was in Twisters and he was in Top Gun Maverick. Oh. Hangman. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:05:24] Like, he's the guy that everybody kind of, like, looks at and goes, like, eh, maybe that's the guy. Why do they have to have anybody replace him at all and just end the movies? Because Hollywood just never, ever wants to crash an IP that does as well as this does. But one of the reasons for me personally why these movies work, because I am not a fan of Tom Cruise, the team that surrounds him. Mm-hmm.
[00:05:50] And you just can't slip anybody else in there because Tom Cruise works well with them. Right. They have a good repertoire. Repertoire? Repertoire? Yeah. Repertoire? Yeah. You know what I mean. And that's why they work with me is, like, um, I don't know their names. Sonic Peg. Sonic Peg, thank you. And Ving Rhames. Ving Rhames, yes. They don't work more together. Yeah. That's, like, a nice team. Yeah. Yeah, they do.
[00:06:19] They work together. Replace one of those? Eh, it might not work. Right. No, I get that. But it's that, it's that thing of, like, I mean, honestly, think about it. Hollywood never wants to just shut down an intellectual property. No. Ever. No. Like, if there is a way to bring it back, they're bringing, like, they've done it with Ghostbusters.
[00:06:46] They, like, they keep trying. They come back to a Predator movie. Like, the last one was phenomenal. The Ghostbusters movies, though, they got you in the feels with that one. That's how they sucked you back into the movies. Right. No, they did. I mean, they're always, somebody's always looking for an end with a current intellectual property. Nobody wants to take the gamble on something that's unknown.
[00:07:16] Right. If I have a marketable property that I can sit there and I can say, just by the name, you're going to make $500 million. Right. Like, that, if you think, you make a movie for $200 million, we're going to make $500. Right. We've made $300 million. Right. Like, that's phenomenal. Yeah. That's the type of return they're looking for.
[00:07:44] So, like, if you trot out a name, and it's why, like, some things just never die. Like, as a bad example, it's the Fast and the Furious. Right. Like, but I mean, they make big money. They're ridiculous as all hell, but they make big money. And, you know, Paramount knows, okay, this is one of our, like, they don't want it to die.
[00:08:13] Like, Vin's like the one who's like, man, I'm getting old. Yeah. You know? Yeah. And Brian's not around anymore. You know, like, you know, it's, it's. Yeah. There, there, there's, he's reaching a point of, like, I'm, I'm, I think I'm done with this. You know? Yeah. The crew is starting to drop. Right. And, like, I think more important. I'm sorry, the family. Right. The family. But I also think more importantly, like, it's that thing of, like, with Vin, it's like, this is all I have.
[00:08:43] Like, you, you can't put Vin, like, there was a brief period of time where you could put Vin Diesel on any property. Yeah. So on Vin, Vin Diesel's name. Yeah. Like, he was a very hot commodity. That time has come and gone. Yeah. If you put him, like, maybe you could probably make another Riddick movie. Maybe. But, I mean, you don't have to sell the shit out of that to people. I think his downfall started when he did the, uh, the triple X return of Xander Cage.
[00:09:13] That one kind of. That was horrible. Yeah. That was, like, one of the worst films ever. Not the, not as bad as the one we couldn't figure out. Yeah. I can't. A.D. Babylon A.D. Babylon A.D. Yeah, that was horrible. Yeah. I, to this day, I watched that fucking movie three times. Three goddamn times I've sunk my time into that movie and I still have no fucking clue what I'm watching. Yeah, that movie has sucked, like, seven and a half hours of my life away from it. Yeah. I mean, I get a gist of it, but still, it's like, the timeline and what they're doing, it
[00:09:41] matches, it has no matching to the, it's just, it's terrible. Like, I don't know, they filmed it out of order and didn't edit it correctly. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. It's a wackadoo movie. It's all right now. I'm trying to figure it out, but I'm, three times I'm done. I said, like, sometimes, people always ask me, you'll see, like, what's the worst movie you saw in a theater? And I always cite that one. Babylon 8, yeah. And, like, I had somebody, like, I'm like, well, you're just not sophisticated enough to
[00:10:11] figure out the story. I'm like, motherfucker. Motherfucker? Look. What has that got to do with figuring out this dumbass movie? Nobody could figure that out. Like, I consider, like, I don't consider myself, like, a brainiac. I'm a pretty smart guy. Yeah. You know? Yeah. Like, I don't know what my IQ is, but I'm, you know, I, I'm a, I have a level of intelligence that I can function at a high, not high level, but a decent level. Right. You know?
[00:10:40] But, like, if you're going to tell me, like, I'm not sophisticated enough to figure this fucking movie out, then, you know, the movie's the fucking problem. Yes. You know? Especially after watching it more than once. Yeah. Like, you can say the same thing about, like, the second and third Matrix movies, but I kind of figured out. Yeah. Like, without having to read Nitschke and, like, you know, and whatever other German authors, the, the, the, the, the Wachowski siblings were going for in those movies. Right.
[00:11:08] I kind of, like, okay, I see what you're trying to say here, but I'm still just going to watch it. Because, like, the first, the first movie's brilliant because you can watch it at the surface level as an action movie and you get it. But if you wanted to dig deeper into the meaning of things, you could do that as well with those, with that movie. Right. The second and the third were kind of more along the lines of, like, no, you need to figure out what we're trying to say. Right. And, like, the first time I saw each one in the theater, I was like, this is some bullshit.
[00:11:36] But then, like, upon repeat viewings, I was like, oh. They're still not nearly as good as the first movie. No, not at all. Like, like, yeah, the car chase scene in the second movie's phenomenal. Oh, yeah. And the battle for Zion in the third movie is fucking amazing. I do like that car. That's, that's one of my favorite scenes in all three of them. Yeah. I mean, that car chase scene. It is phenomenal. But this is ridiculous. I mean, they built a fucking highway. Right, yeah. In the middle of nowhere to do that. Like, you know. Insane. Yeah.
[00:12:06] So, like, there is some brilliance to that. And, like, you can appreciate it. But, like, I also found the deeper meaning of what they were trying to say in a lot of those movies. Some of them are actually doing with, like, coding and stuff. Like, you know, I was like, like, the joke that I never got for the longest time. Neo could not talk to the Oracle until he accepted a cookie. Yeah, I don't understand that.
[00:12:34] Because in computers, you have to accept cookies. Oh, fuck. It's a simple little joke, but it's a computer joke. Oh, my God. I never even thought of that. Yeah. I didn't really read. That didn't bother me. So. Right. Maybe that's why I never thought about it. But that's brilliant. It didn't bother me either. But one day I was like, he has to accept cookies. That's what he's. That's what all.
[00:13:04] I mean, like, one day I'm watching it. It was like, it clicked in my head. I'm like, motherfucker. He just has to accept cookies. That's brilliant. I mean, it was like this brilliant little thing. And, you know, and later on, like, you know. My friend Frank, who was a coder. Like, he was explaining some of like the. Like in the second movie, like. What the architect was saying. Like, because it was like, it became very computer. I'm like, yeah, this makes. Yeah.
[00:13:34] No sense. But when he explained it from computers, I'm like, oh, OK. Right. I get what you're saying. So it was shit like that. But there was also like, like deeper philosophical stuff that the Wachowski siblings were going into. And so I'm like, you know, what the fuck are we getting into here? I never really thought too much into that because I'm just I'm not into philosophy and shit like that. Where did that go? I don't know. It was like right in front of my eyeball. Yeah. I'm not either normally.
[00:14:03] But it's that thing of like. Those second, the second and third movie, like if you didn't dig into it. Yeah. To find the real meaning of what they were trying to say. Yeah. You're just never going to get the fucking move. Right. Right. You know. I think it takes to me, it takes away because I shouldn't have to do that. Right. You know, I get some of it like Neo is the Christ figure and everything else like, you know. Right.
[00:14:30] But like they were doing it in such an undercurrent kind of way. I like Zack Snyder with Man of Steel and, you know, his version of Superman being the Christ figure that had to be sacrificed for all mankind. Like, you know, it was he was smacking in the face with it. Right. Like, you know. Right. They were kind of like trying to lay it as an under undertone. Right. You know, I mean, the orgy of Zion in the second movie and everything. I was like, what the fuck is this? The fuck am I watching?
[00:15:01] Huh. We've seen quite a few movies like that. Are these people fucking now? Oh, my God. Holy shit. I was not expecting this. This took a turn. Shut up. It's true. I sat there like watching that second movie where like and I'm like, I think. I think they're fucking.
[00:15:31] Oh, my God. And sweats like dripping off. Oh, my God. And I'm like. Is that what I think it is? Is that sweater? Is that something else? Oh, my God. Shut up. Oh, I mean. Shut up. I mean, that whole thing. That whole thing. Is Lawrence Fishburne? Is he? Oh, shit. I did not need to see this. Oh, my God. Damn. He's going to be running to pull out that old Matrix DVD box set. Yeah.
[00:15:59] Because, you know, you weren't in unless you had the box sets. I got the box sets. So do I. Yeah. I think we both had them at once. And the. The Animatrix. The Animatrix. Yeah. When are we talking about that? I don't want to talk about the Matrix. I don't know. I just. So anyway. Yeah. I'm looking forward to seeing the final. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You brought it. Yeah. Bring it back full circle. Yeah.
[00:16:29] As you should. Yeah. So. How are you? I'm great. How are you? I'm good. We're drinking different beverages. We are. I got. I had. My thing broke. I can't get it. I'm going to have to. Oh, what the hell? Yeah. I got to figure that out. I was wondering why you were slurping that. I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah. Well, we're going to have to. At some point, we're going to pause. I'm going to have to crack that thing open. Yeah.
[00:16:59] I want to shoot it now while you're thinking about it. Okay. We're pausing. We're pausing. Oh, that was a disaster. Unpause. Unpause. Yeah. That was more than just a moment pause. Yeah. So. It was a lot longer in time than it was for them. So I found something very interesting. To me, it's interesting. If you have.
[00:17:29] Oh, getting a Spotify. It's going to be a feature. You're going to be like, ah, Spotify said that for years. But. I subscribe to Apple Music. And. With Apple Music. They've launched. Like. A personalized station. For you. Mm-hmm. So I have Sean's station. Now. This is just further proof.
[00:17:58] That your phone is listening to you. Because. I understand. Okay. There's an algorithm. That's involved with this. I'm sure there's some sort of. You know. Apple artificial intelligence. Being applied to this. To create the station. This station has put out. Nothing but bangers. For me. Okay. Banger. After banger. After banger. And it's like. My assumption is like. Well, it's got to be shit that I.
[00:18:29] Looking back at my history. As saying. Okay. Here's something that you've listened to. Here's something you've listened to. Here's shit that you've listened to. And we're just going to take it. And we're just going to kind of. Mold it. But it. Obviously. It's using that. To create. Also like. Well, if he likes this shit. He's probably going to like this shit as well. Right. Like. As like. Like.
[00:18:59] Because you listen to this. You might like this. Right. But it's like. It's amazing. Because it's like. The other thing you would think is like. Okay. I'll bet. It's like. Okay. So it's my station. But. It's nothing but like. The hits. The hits. Like. Okay. Yeah. You're going to get some 38 special. But it's going to be. Only. Only 38 specials hits. It's going to. You're going to get some Van Halen.
[00:19:28] But it's nothing but Van Halen hits. Right. Like. Like. Today I was going to pick up Britney at work. And I'm listening to it. And it's playing Cabo Wabo by Van Halen. A deeper cut of a song. You know. And you called like. Just as it was beginning too. Oh. That was the one you said I interrupted. Yeah. So which is great. Because like. When I was going to pick up your daughter. I stopped at Sheetz. As I'm pulling in the sheets. I'm. I've got four windows down. And I got this blaring. You know. I do not care. And there.
[00:19:57] There was a woman. I'm. I'm going to say. She was. Probably around the same age as me. She might have been a Karen. But she heard Sammy Hagar singing about. You know. Sipping limes. Straight from the bottle. You're right. You know. And she just kind of looked up at me as she was pumping gas. And I was like. There was a knowing nod of like. Oh shit. Okay.
[00:20:28] You're a real one. Did you get her number? No. I did not. I wasn't. I did not approach. Jeez. What the hell is wrong with you? I did not approach. I went and got myself a couple of Red Bulls. And I. And I. And I. I. I. I don't think. I think once I got out of the car. Like any attraction. I was immediately lost. Oh God. You know. He's a lord. Between the Daredevil t-shirt. The. The baggy. Is that who you have on? Yeah. Daredevil. Oh yeah. Yeah. That's right. That's right. Yeah.
[00:20:58] The baggy. Ten year old sweatpants. And. The 450 pound frame. I believe that. Yeah. Any attraction was amazing. If there was any dampness. In her Bermuda Triangle. It dried up like the Sahara Desert. When she saw me. Oh my God. Just move on please. Okay.
[00:21:28] Thank you. Like. Whatever joy. Like me playing Sammy Hagar had. It was lost. The second I got out of the car. I'm going to sit here and. Slam you. I guess. Move on. But anyway. My. My point is like. I find. I get it. I know. Like people are like. Excuse me. Spotify has been doing this forever. I get that. But it just. It fascinates me the way. It's like picking music. I probably.
[00:21:57] I don't remember ever listening to on Apple. But also. Like. Like picking music. And it's like. Yeah. You mostly listen to Sammy Hagar. Van Halen. And. You've listened to this album. Like. 150 times. So we're going to take this deep cut off of this album. Because. You're a weirdo like that. I didn't.
[00:22:27] Shut up. Let me just stop. Like. Because that's what the AI has got to be. The AI. Because you're a weirdo like that. Because the AI has got to be thinking. What is it? Like. Sorry. Like the AI is probably for other people. It's like. Here. Here's. You know. Taylor Swift. And here. Here's some Travis Scott. And here. Here. Here's Kendrick Lamar. Like. Yeah. And it's getting to me.
[00:22:57] And it's like. Kendrick. I think there was a basketball player. I. I think he's a rapper. It's back. I don't know. I think he was the guy at the Super Bowl. But wait. Didn't Pandora used to do that? They used to create stations for what you list to it. Because I remember they emailed me one time. And said we created this Depeche Mode. Because we noticed you listen to Depeche Mode a lot. So it was like. Like all the Peshmer. Well. Initially.
[00:23:27] Because that was the weird thing about Pandora was. It was like. I would type into it. Like. Van Halen. And then like. I would get a Van Halen song. And then I'd get like a. Like. Something similar to Van Halen. Then I'd get a Van Halen song. And I'd get something similar. Like. Like. It was like. It had an algorithm of like. If you. If. If you've picked this band to listen to. That we're going to try to. Associate. Music that. That. Like.
[00:23:56] I remember. There was an algorithm to it. And then like. Later on. Like. They did. It was like. You listen to so much fucking Depeche Mode. We're just giving you. The station that plays nothing but Depeche Mode. Yeah. Like. Like. The original concept of it was like. To try to. Associate other music. With. And get you to listen to them too. Right. Yeah. But I just kept going back. Yeah. Stop playing that shit. Like. You had so many skips. And like. If you were just skipping over everything. But Depeche Mode.
[00:24:27] Yeah. The algorithm would probably like. Fuck this. We'll just give her Depeche Mode. Yeah. Here you go Nancy. Well. Don't have that anymore. Yeah. But. Spotify. Spotify. But I've noticed like. Excuse me. There's some bands I'll go to. And they don't have. All of their albums. And. Sometimes. It's just remixes. Or live albums. Yeah. For some bands. So they. I don't know. They don't have that. Now I know. For a fact. They.
[00:24:57] Have been known to play music. They did not have permission to play. I know. I know that for a fact. But. If they have permission to play. Half of Lincoln Park's. What do you call that? Their discography. Discography. Yeah. Why don't they just come. The rice play all of that. Because. Because. I'd rather listen to originals. Than remakes and lives. Right. Because the problem becomes this.
[00:25:26] It's a matter of. Contracts. Like. It always goes back to that documentary. Watched with 30 seconds to Mars. Mm-hmm. Okay. Like. With all the shit that goes into a contract. When you. Sell an album to a record company. And. It's the same thing with. Digital rights. Like digital rights. So like in 1999. When. Hybrid theory comes out. There was no such thing as digital rights. So they were not negotiated.
[00:25:55] Created. So. If you allow. Spotify. To play anything off of hybrid theory. How do you pay the band? Because they're entitled to. Like. So what. What's the cost of playing. A song off of hybrid theory. How much does a record company make. How much does a band make. For every time that song is played. That's what has to be negotiated. I remember. When. Back when I had.
[00:26:25] We had Amazon music. And. I wanted to listen to Death Leopard. But like. The only thing I could listen to. Was like. Like a live album. From like. 2015. Right. And like. Their latest album at the time. Which was trash. I'm like. What the fuck is this? I don't want to hear. The let you listen to the live one. But not the original version. Right. Because they had. They had. Because. At that time. When that album came out. They had negotiated. Digital rights for that album. Yeah.
[00:26:55] How much do you think it is? I have no idea. I'm sure it's pennies on the dollar. Yeah. Is it like five cents every time somebody plays it. And then. You know. Whatever. Yeah. Probably. It's probably like five cents every time somebody plays it. And then the band gets two cents. So. That shit has to be one of them for a year. Before it's even worth a check. Right. Like. I've. You. You. You hear. Should have put an S on that. I've heard like. Snoop Dogg. Which is.
[00:27:25] I think you're like. Snoop Dogg. I get to call him Mr. Dogg. And. I'm still not allowed to say the N word. Like. Yeah. We have ground rules. That was established early on. Like. You don't get to say it Sean.
[00:27:56] You got the hard R at the end still. I'm sorry. But. I heard an. I heard an interview with Snoop. And he was talking about. Like. He gets these residual checks for streaming rights. And it's like. Nothing. Like. He's like. You can't tell me. You know. You're. These. Companies are. Are making. Billions of dollars. Off of my name. And I'm getting pennies on the dollar. Right.
[00:28:29] So like. So Snoop is looking at it. Like. This is a complete racket. Actually making more money. Right. Based upon how often my songs are being streamed. Right. And. I'm sure many other bands are probably. I think. I've heard a ton of bands who talk about. Like. You know. You're not helping us by streaming our music. Like. If you want to help us. You have to buy it. You have to go to our concerts. You have to go to our concerts. By. By listening to it on Spotify. You're not helping us. You know. Don't think that you're helping us. You're not. You know.
[00:28:59] Well there was a time where. There were certain bands that I would. I would always buy the CD for. Like I. I wouldn't. Right. I wouldn't do the digit. I would out go out. Or order online. I did. A lot of. Pre-ordering. For 30 seconds to Mars. Right. Yeah. Remember. There was like. But they got to the point where. I don't have anything to play them on. You know. Right. Everything is. Google and shit in my house now. You know.
[00:29:30] So. What are you supposed to do in that case? Sorry. Well. I mean. You go out. You buy a CD player. I don't want to. I don't need anything. Right. No. I understand what you're saying. Like it may. It is. It's that funny thing of like. Like we taught. We've talked about like. Like buying a movie digitally. Like. Okay. So you buy a movie through Apple. And you watch it through your. Your Apple. Phone or whatever. Okay.
[00:30:00] You know. Your computer. Right. And one day. Apple loses the license to that movie. Right. Guess what? Yeah. You can no longer watch that movie. Because technically you never owned it. Right. You bought a license from Apple. To be able to watch that movie. Right. Digitally. Right. So it's. It's. That funny thing of like. Like there is no more ownership. Right. You know. Unless you have a physical copy. Yeah.
[00:30:28] And there aren't that many physical copies. Being sold of stuff anymore. And like the stuff that is being sold. Is usually the special stuff. Right. Like. Like. Like a. Zilla minus one for example. Like. You can get like a special. Like. Six disc edition of that. Wow. Like. With like. All sorts of like. Extras. And like. I think one is like. The entire disc is like. How the. The score was done. Like. Oh wow. It's like.
[00:30:57] It's like shit like that. Like. It. And it's like. It's like a $60. Oh. But. So. So. It becomes that thing. It's that odd thing of like. Owning something physically is. Is like a flex. Like. Like. This is like a. Almost like a rich person's flex. Right. Like. You know. I have a physical copy. Right. You know. Like. Oh really. Oh shit. You spent some money. Right. Where. Like. Before.
[00:31:27] That was just a necessity. Yeah. Now. It's. It's kind of like. It's for that person. It's for like Thad. Okay. Thad's a prime example of this. The person who has their own like. In house. Movie theater system. Like. Movie theater quality sound system. With a projection system. That you know. Is of the highest end possible. Like. Thad. You know. I haven't been to his house. I know.
[00:31:56] He spent a ton of money. On. That. Because that's important to him. Right. Like. That is something that. He. Takes a great deal of pride in. I remember like. Me and Ian went over his house. To do that. The episode. That one time. Like. He took a great deal of pride. Like. Of having like the 3D TV. And we watched Captain. Like the first Captain America movie. Where I was. Captain America Winter Soldier. In 3D. In his house. With the. The massive 3D TV. That he had. And then.
[00:32:27] The. You know. Like high end. Surround sound system. That was like. You know. Movie theater quality. For him. Yeah. That's. One of his passions. I wouldn't mind having a room set up like. No. Neither would I. I'd love to. I'm just saying like. But that's the person. Who then goes out. And buys that copy. Of Godzilla minus one. What. Like. You're not going to get that. For every movie. Like it used to be like. Every movie was released on DVD. I would buy every movie.
[00:32:56] If I was collecting them. Right. Yeah. Right. Like. But like. Everything was released on DVD. Yeah. No matter how bad or how good it was. It was. Now. There was stuff that was just. Released straight to DVD. Right. Now though. Like. You're probably looking at stuff. That's like. Only the high end. Mm-hmm. Like. Maybe something a bit artsy. Maybe only like. Marvel movies. Or stuff like that. Like stuff that like. There's a reason for you to have that. Yeah. High end.
[00:33:26] Surround sound. And projection. Everything else. Extras are. Other than the movie itself. Right. But like. Do you think it's possible. At some point. It can go back around to. That again. Because like. I collect albums in 45s now. Because. We have. And it's like a special thing. For them to print. These special prints. With different colors. And you know. Caught. You know. Charging a fucking arm and a leg. Right. But. You think it would ever come back around like that. For DVDs and stuff like that.
[00:33:56] I would never say never. Like. Because you never. Like you're right. You never like. Nostalgia can take effect. And then all of a sudden. There's a rush on. You know. I need to have a copy. Of. You know. This Bond movie. Or. You know. Whatever. Like you know. This is something I need to have. Where. Previously. Like I was just. You just find it streaming somewhere. Like. You know.
[00:34:26] So there may come a day where. Because the thing that's going to become this. Like it's millennials. And Gen Z. Like. Are they going to reach a point where. Because they're the ones who are like. Well just stream it. You know. They're the ones who cut the cord. First. Or never were connected to the cord. Mm-hmm. Like they're the ones who. You know. Embraced. The newer technology much faster. Obviously. Because that's what younger generations do. Right. So it's.
[00:34:56] Because you're going to reach a point where. Are they going to reach a point where. They say to themselves. Having a physical copy of something is important to me. Right. Like. My dad. A boomer. Has embraced. The digital format. Completely. Yeah. Does not buy. Physical. Copies of games. Any longer. Wow. He. He. But he. He buys them digitally. Like. He. He's on Xbox.
[00:35:27] His. His daily job is like. He logs in. And he takes a survey. And that gives him so many points. And he does this. And he. Like. He has a. He has a nine to five job. Of. Like. Collecting these points. Thank God he's retired. Yeah. That's what he. This is. This is what he does now. So that he can buy games. Wow. So. Like. He does. Like. He does this every day. It's. It's like. He's running like a scam of some sort. But. It's like. His nine to five job. It's not. It's legit. It's like. He.
[00:35:56] He logs in. He does this. He does this. He does this. He goes here. He gotta go here. He's gotta go here. Like. That's what he does. Wow. So that he can collect enough points. To buy a new game. Is that. Hence all the games you ended up. Because he gave you all. The ones laying around. Well. Those were from the PlayStation 3. Which he didn't play with anymore. Okay. So he's like. Here. Take these. Okay. You know. And. Like. When I. When he gave me the Xbox. Like. He came up with like. He gave me like five games. Yeah. Four. Oh.
[00:36:26] Because he had them all. Yeah. Because he didn't. He's like. Yeah. I just. I buy them digitally. And. I do that on my Switch. So he laughed at me. Because. I was like. I was telling him like. You know. When we. Why did he laugh at you? Because. I told him about like. Okay. This is what I did. I had to just. Reset. The Xbox. Like. Just come. Back to factory. Fuck it. I'm. It. It. It kept. Screwing up. Everything. Like.
[00:36:57] This is ridiculous. I mean. Just reset it back to factory. Start from the beginning. Okay. And it's been working fine for me ever since. Okay. But I told him. I told him that. And I'm like. And when me and Nancy were out. You know. We. She bought me. As a thank you for doing something for her. She bought me a couple of games. Oh yeah. The. Warehouse. Yeah. GameStop. Game. No. Was it GameStop? GameStop. Oh yeah. Yeah. I remember that.
[00:37:27] Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. So. The thing with that was. So I told the story. I'm like. Well. She's like. Well. Do you want a game? I'm like. Yeah. But it's fine. She's like. No. I'll buy you a game. I'm like. Okay. Great. And I picked out. The Star Wars one. And it was like six bucks. And you're like. This is only six bucks. I'm like. Yeah. It's used. And you know. Yeah. It's an old game. Like it's Star Wars. And it's only six dollars. And you're like. You're like. Go pick out another fucking game. Yeah. Like. I guess. It's like I'm a child. Yeah.
[00:37:57] I'm like. This is stupid. Like I'm a fucking child. You're like. Go pick yourself out of another. The second game. I did. You wanted me to pay you back by six dollars. Yeah. I tip more than that. Yeah. Go pick yourself out of another fucking game. Like. I'm like a small child. Thank you mom. You're so sweet to me. When I got a second game. What was that one? That was the Mass Effect. The Mass Effect one. Yeah. So. My dad's like. Well. I have that. I'm like. What? I'm like. Look. You added me as your family. I don't.
[00:38:27] I can't see jack shit that you own. Oh. Like. Because that was like the thing. Like he told me. Like. If I add you as my family. Then you can just access the games I already have. Well. No. I can't. It doesn't work for me for whatever reason. Like. Well. I was like. Fuck it. I don't care. Are you supposed to though? I have no idea. Okay. I have no fucking clue. And I don't. I don't give a damn about it. Like. I'm just. I was just like. Fuck it. I am just going to buy games. Yeah. Like. For six bucks. It's just. Right. Cheap.
[00:38:57] Yeah. Like. Even if I'm buying them off of eBay. I'm like spending like ten bucks on a game. For. For this system. Which is like fantastic. Yeah. You know. But. My dad's like. I mean. You're just going to buy physical copies still. I'm like. Yeah. Oh. I see why he's making fun of you. Yeah. Because he was just like. Or laughing at you. Like. Like. Like. I want nothing to do with online. I don't want to pay Xbox jack or shit. Right. You know. And what's funny is.
[00:39:27] So. So. I've been playing the Star Wars game. But I've missed playing Madden. Now. The thing to keep in mind. Is the last Madden game I had on the PlayStation 3. Was from. From 2010. Oh. Wow. 2009 actually. It was Madden 10. Which is the 2009 game that they released. Jesus. Yeah. So. I ordered Madden 2024. Which was released in 2023. And. It is. Maddening.
[00:39:57] How. Like. I log. I load the game up. And it's like. In order to take advantage of all the fun. You need to. Have an Xbox live account. And an EA live account. And I'm like. Well. Fuck you. And then. Like. Later on. Like. I'm trying to like. Get into like. My franchise. Like. If you want to play with your friends. Like. I don't want to play with my fucking friends. Like. Like. It is like. Pushing you towards like. Like. It doesn't want you to play by yourself.
[00:40:27] It wants you to play online. Even though. That. That version is no longer supported online even. But the game. So it tells me. Like. Even if I wouldn't bought 2025. Like. It would just be like. You need to have this. Right. Fuck you. I just want to play by myself. Right. Glad you find that funny.
[00:40:56] Just the look on your face. When you. It was like. The final. No. Yeah. Fuck you. I just want to play by myself. That's what I'm telling. Like. I'm yelling at the screen. I'm upstairs. Like. I just want to play by myself. The fuck. You don't even support online play. You're in that obsolete game. I bought you for a reason. You are what's wrong with this world. Yeah. Dang.
[00:41:26] But my dad's like. No. You don't have to like. I'm like. Fuck that shit. I'm like. Oh boy. Yeah. I'm so sorry you're having problems with that. It's not a problem. It's just an annoyance. But now I know. If I hear you yelling down the hall. Now I'm like. Oh. It's just that it's game. Yeah. Because it's either that or Sabine. I don't know. Yeah. But it is. It's an annoyance. It's what it is. Right. So. Oh I believe me. I get it. It's something that.
[00:41:56] Right now I can't even get my computer to load any screen at all. But it comes up. You know like everything comes up. But they're always blank. Like I can bring Google up. It's blank. Yeah. I don't know. I can bring Amazon up. But it's blank. It says Amazon. Blank. I'm just. And there's nothing on this computer. Yeah. I have downloaded nothing but one game on it. Does it. Yeah. Ever.
[00:42:24] The problem is you turn that thing on so infrequently. It's probably just all jacked up because of that. I don't know. I just know I don't want to sink anybody into a new one. But I'm going to need one. Right. I tried to pull something up off of my old laptop. I was like oh fuck I need that. It's on my old laptop. That thing. I plugged it in. Fired it up. And it looked at me. It was just like what the fuck. I always thought about plugging in my old one up there. Like.
[00:42:54] That has all those old games on it. Like. I fired. It's on my desktop. I fired that thing up and it was just like. No you are not. Chugga chugga no no. Yeah. You are not. Stop. It's like that meme of. I'm going to guess it's from Ozark. But it's. What's his name from. Arrested Development. Bateman. Yeah. Yeah Jason Bateman. And it's like.
[00:43:23] The fuck you are. Yeah. Why do you have to say Arrested Development. Every time you say Arrested Development. All I can think about is that rusty old claptrap. Oh wow. I can't. I can't. It always comes to my fucking head. That and you know. Here's twenty dollars. Go see a Star War. The two best lines come out of her mouth. Yeah. Oh. Oh.
[00:43:53] Hey she rest in peace. He's like oh. The cabin. He meant the cabin. Her own son. Yeah. We're talking about the cabin. Yeah. Yeah. Self good stuff. Indeed. Yeah. So. Yeah. Anyway. There was some fun and excitement that was had this week by you. Oh yeah. There was.
[00:44:22] Oh you mean the concert. Yeah. Oh yeah. Why don't you regale the people with your. What do you want me to talk about? Well. For. How fucking amazing it was. Let's talk about who did you go see. Oh my god. It was one of the best things ever. I went to see Pucifer, A Perfect Circle and Primus. At the. What was that? The Peterson events. The Peterson events. Yeah. Last Tuesday. With my daughter.
[00:44:53] Yeah. It was really good. It wasn't just like a concert though. I've never seen. A concert like this before. Like you have three bands. Right. It was announced. A Pucifer would open. Perfect Circle. Primus closes. At some point you know they're going to do something together. Right. Because they've been with each other since the 90s. Right. So. I am so sorry. Excuse me. Fucking White Claw.
[00:45:23] Anyways. When you walked in and you started paying attention to all the announcements and the signs and stuff. I started reading shit. Especially t-shirts. Like the one I have on right now actually. And it would say all three bands on stage at the same time. And I like didn't think about it. I really didn't. Right. Until we were sitting in our seats. And when the show started. Which was just. Fucking amazing. Yeah. Maynard is like.
[00:45:53] He come on. He was like. I need y'all to be with us. Yeah. Be present. Which is something he's. He is known for. It's a no. No.
[00:46:34] Two ramps going up to an upper level. And on each side. There's like a ramp going up. Or like a seat. If you sit in a seat. And the seat takes you up. Right. Both sides had that. If you went up on the left hand side. There was three sets of drums. Going across. One for each band. Right. Right. And on the right hand side of that. There was. Colches and seating. I don't. You know. I don't know if there was couch. I have no idea what kind of seating. I just know it was seating up there. Right.
[00:47:03] And all three bands would take turns. But there was always like someone from the other band in that doing something like if Perfect Circle was on, Les would be out there playing the cello. You know what I mean? Right. So what. What threw me was when it first started, a Perfect Circle came out. And I was like, wait, Pucifer is supposed to open. Yeah.
[00:47:32] So it started to sink into my head when I saw Les standing off to the side with his pig head thing on. All three bands on stage at the same time. Yeah. And I was like, oh my God, this is not. I need to pay attention. Like I have to pay attention. Yeah. Unfortunately, I had quite a few gummies in me. So I was trying hard.
[00:47:57] But I'm telling you, when a Perfect Circle came out, I was crying. Right. It was just beautiful. I'm sorry. He is just amazing. So after that, Primus came out. And Les came out on stage. And I was like, Pucifer first. You know what I mean? Yeah. And then Pucifer came out. And they kept interchanging. And it was amazing because they'd be in and out and out. The only intermission we had was a 10 minute. Right.
[00:48:27] Where normally three bands, you have two to three intermissions. Right. Yeah. So this is a show that started at 8, finished around 11. And it was like just a 10 minute. It was a three hour show. It was a three hour show. Because he even said that. He's like, when he came out and said about the new cell phone, you know, be present. Be with us. It's only three hours of your life. Right. You can live without your phone for three hours. Right. That's all we ask.
[00:48:54] And he, Perfect Circle started it out. I was like, and each time on the screen, it would announce who was coming out. But like, there was a time Perfect Circle was on and Les was playing. And then like the, oh, the drummer for, or the drummer for Perfect Circle was really, really good. Yeah. But you would have, oh, that was the other thing. Oh my God. There was a few songs where all three drummers were going together. Yeah.
[00:49:23] If I would have had my phone, I probably would have been recorded and I probably wouldn't have experienced it without my phone. You know what I mean? Right. It was amazing. It was amazing. Like, I wish I liked these bands. Yeah. Because the show does sound amazing. Yeah. And it sounds like a unique experience because you, like, it's that thing, like, anytime you go to a show like that, it's like, okay, the opening act is going to come out. They're going to play for a half hour.
[00:49:50] Then there's going to be like a 20 minute intermission while they set the stage. And the second band will play and they'll play for about 45 minutes. And the final act will play for like an hour and a half. Like, you know, and, and it's like that thing of like, you know, it's a start and stop. Start. Right. This sounds amazing because it was like, all three bands on stage at the same time. They're playing each other's music. There was also, I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt you, but there was also interaction stuff. Right.
[00:50:17] Like there was like a cart set off to the side when like Pucifer was out there. And the woman, I wish, I can't remember if her name is Mary, Amy. I can't remember her name, but she has such a beautiful voice. Right. And they'll have like a cart and then like one time he dragged it over and they were playing rock them and sock them robot because it went with the theme of the song. Right. Or like they were charging each other with their microphone things like they were, she was a horse and he was. Right.
[00:50:45] And you could see less like riding the ride. Less was really into riding the thing up and down, but that man is amazing live by the way. And what was really nice was he did this thing with his, you know, he plays the bass. Less is going. He just does his thing and he had his little shiny motorcycle helmet on. Right. And when he was done and went off stage, Maynard came up and said, that's how you celebrate your 61st birthday. Yeah. Less is his birthday. It was on.
[00:51:15] Yeah. Yeah. I was like, that is so amazing. You know? So there was like, even in an action where it wasn't just the bands playing, you know? And then of course, the very last song, he said, you can record all you want. And it was a really good song. Like one of my favorite songs. And I'm like, I recorded three seconds and I'm like, I don't even care. And I put my phone on. Yeah. Like I didn't even, didn't even, and everybody else was still holding their phones. And I'm like, I don't want to. Yeah. You want to be in the moment.
[00:51:44] I want to be in the moment still with them. Yeah. Even after the whole concert. Yeah. Yeah. Cause they were all on stage and them drummers. Woo. Yeah. The only thing I was disappointed in was it was announced early on that Danny Carey, the drummer for Toll, who is probably regarded as one of the best drummers in the world, was supposed to be the drummer for Primus, but he was not there. Yeah. So I don't know if that was just a rumor.
[00:52:14] Right. Or if there was something he couldn't make this show. Right. But I was okay with that because I saw him when I saw Toll. Right. Yeah. So I saw The Traspector. Yes. You've seen the Mainer Trifecta. Yeah. Yeah. I wish you would have seen it. It was cool. Whether you liked it. And that was the whole thing too. There was a person behind us that was, and we had good seats. I'm telling you, we were right there. Yeah. And we had really good seats.
[00:52:44] But there was a lady behind us that every time Les Claypool came on stage, she would scream, you suck, you suck. Now, if you didn't know that this was going to be that type of show where there was three bands. Right. Why would you come to a show where Primus headlines when you think he sucks that bad? Like, why are you booing him off stage? And by the way, he doesn't suck. Yeah.
[00:53:14] The man's a genius. The sounds that he makes. Even I, as somebody who, I don't care for Primus. I cannot deny he's an amazing bass player. Yes. Like, I mean, that's just undenied. Yes. So, I mean, it's like, yeah. Like, you wanted me to go to the show with you initially. And I said no, because I don't like the bands.
[00:53:39] Like, and it sucks because, like, it does sound like it was an amazing show. And it's a very unique experience of seeing three bands all on stage at one time with, like, a 10-minute intermission. Like, you just. And playing together like that with no fault. No interruption. Yeah. No mistake. It was just beautiful. Yeah. And it worked. It worked.
[00:54:09] We're going to do a Perfect Circle song. And here comes Les. They're going to do their thing. And we're going to come back with. And Les and Maynard did sing together. All together. So. So, I mean, it is that thing. It sounds very, very interesting to me from, like, the standpoint of what the show was. Right. Like, that's what piques my interest.
[00:54:36] Like, I'm thinking in my head, like, what three bands could I have seen that could have done something like that? And in all honesty, I can't think of any. Right. Like, the closest I could think of would have been the night we saw Linkin Park with Chris Cornell. Oh, right. Like, just having them just shared a stage like that for, like, three hours. Yeah. And just doing their thing.
[00:55:02] And, like, Chester and Cornell, like, just riffing off of each other. And, like, that would have been about as close as I could think I could come to something like that. Like, I honestly, I've been racking my head for a couple of days. Like, what three bands could I have seen that could have, like, kind of pulled that together like that? Right. And, like, none. Yeah. But maybe I'm just not that, like, that creative in my head.
[00:55:31] Like, maybe there could have been, like, a collection of bands that is, like... I don't know anybody else other than Maynard. Me, personally, I don't know. I'm not saying there isn't one. I'm saying I personally don't know anybody else like Maynard that has three successful bands like he does. Right. These are three, whether you've heard of Pucifer or not, they're fucking successful. Right. It's Maynard. And he is just...
[00:56:00] You know what I mean? So, I don't know why, like, having two out of three of those bands as two of your... It works somehow. Right. Like, the closest I could think of would be, like, Sammy Hagar. And he has, like, his solo band. And he's with Van Halen. Okay. All right. And then, like... But the third band I can't figure out. Right. Like, who would be the third band that you would put in that? Like, maybe it's David Lee Roth's solo band.
[00:56:30] Right. And so, like, now you have... And, like, Dave then does, like, some Van Halen stuff with Van Halen. Right. Sammy does, like, you know... But that would be, like, having Pucifer or Perfect Circle and Toll together. Right. But I'm, like... Not a third, like, Primus. Right. I'm just trying to picture... Like, and that's the thing. Like, I can't... I can't think of three bands that you could put together like that that could, like, just work. Like, maybe, like...
[00:57:01] Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and, like, Mother Love Bone or something. Or... Allison Jane. I don't know. No, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Like, that collection, I just can't figure that out in my head. Like, how would you make that work? Like, the closest I could come would be, like, Sammy and Dave as the lead singers. And you have Sammy's solo band, Van Halen, and Dave's solo band.
[00:57:28] So you're getting Sammy Hager playing guitar with his band, Sammy and Dave with Van Halen. Right. But then I'm getting Steve Vai. Yeah. Yeah. Also, when Dave does his solo stuff. Like... No, there's a couple more, though. No, no. You've got a few here. Because you... Go back to the Linkin Park. Because if you had Linkin Park, then you had Dead by Sunrise, and then you had that Mike... Oh, what was the band that Mike... Oh, yeah. The CD that I bought. Yeah.
[00:57:58] That band. That could actually work on stage. Yeah. Yeah. Because, like, that was all, like, their... Yeah. Like, they had Linkin Park and then their project band. Well, Dead by Sunrise was Chester and Orgy. Yeah. So that would be the rock part, and then you got the rock rap part, and then you just have the rap part. Fort Minor. Fort Minor. Fort Minor, yeah. Because they did the song for Super Bowl 40. Right, right. So you could do that mashup. So I guess there would be a few out there that...
[00:58:27] But I don't know. I don't... It was just... First time I've ever... Like, I've seen some great... Like, Queensryche. Yeah. Queensryche puts on a three-hour show themselves, and it is like a rock opera. Yeah. Them from the beginning of their time to the now of their time. Right. And... Well, that was with Jeff. But this was just something totally different and amazing. Yeah. And kudos to you if you got to see it. Yeah.
[00:58:57] Yeah. You said you thought this was the second best concert you've seen. Right. Right. So what's topping that, then? I'm just curious. I can't remember. It's still 30 Seconds of Mars. The first time we saw them. Yes. At that club. Yeah, because how long I waited... Well, I don't know, because... That's hard to say, though, because I've been wanting to see Primus since the early 90s when they came out. Yeah.
[00:59:28] So... That would be a tough one. But it was Jared Leto. I just wanted to see Jared Leto, so... But it was the worst concert, too, so it doesn't... I don't think it was a bad concert. It just... No, it was too short. They played for 45 minutes. The problem I always have with that... The problem I always have with any time we've seen Lincoln... Or not Lincoln Park. Any time we've seen 30 Seconds of Mars is they don't play anything off of, like, the first two albums. Not anymore. He'll start singing. I'll be like, what are we singing this for? Yeah. I don't remember these words.
[00:59:58] Yeah, you do, bitch. You remember everything in your life. Like, so, like, it is tough, because, like... You're right, it was a short show, because he basically... They basically played everything off the third album, and then they did two songs. They did Whatchamacallit.com. I don't remember now, because it was... You talking about the last time we saw him? The first time. Oh, the first time. Oh. I couldn't tell you what the first song was, because as soon as he hit that stage, I started bawling like a baby.
[01:00:27] But they played every... Like, it was like... They played that album. That album they were touring for, basically. Oh. Um. The one after The Kill. It was the one after The Kill. But then... But then, like, they finished with The Kill and... Glad I got on video. Yeah. The one song. The Kill and I... What? Beautiful Mind. I can't remember. But there's, like, two songs off of that second album. I think you, like, contractually just have to play The Kill now. Yeah. I...
[01:00:57] Even if it's just... And he stops. Yeah. Drives me crazy. Because then he goes into a fucking speech. Right. For 15 fucking minutes. Like, the last time we saw him was amazing because we were so close, you could actually touch Jay. Yes. Yes. But it was sucked because it was like... Ugh. It was like all that new album, which was so fucking bad. I wouldn't say all of it. There was a few songs on it that I rather enjoyed. Right.
[01:01:23] I just didn't have to have him climb up on a stage that was there lifted into the sky. I just didn't need to see all that. Yeah. I'm not here to watch you act. I'm here to watch you sing. Yeah. In his... And the fact that the homegirl wasn't there and there was no explanation about that, it really made me angry. Yeah. Like, fuck. Yeah. But I just... I probably...
[01:01:50] I would think really, really hard if 30 Seconds of Mars at Retornate came through here, if I would actually pay to go see him because I know 70% of that concert would be him preaching. Yeah. That's all he does. I mean... He gets on stage and he starts preaching. My decision would be based upon how much do I like the new album because that's all they're going to play. I can't even say that I like the new stuff. I can't... Like, I can at least say, like, the second time we saw them when they opened for Muse, they still were good.
[01:02:20] Oh, yeah. That was a good one. That was a good show. Because he came out in the middle. Yeah. He sang The Kill out there. Yeah. Out there. But it wasn't the full song. Yeah. Yeah. Like, an acoustic cut-up version. Yeah. But still, like, that was kind of cool. And then... But I mean, like... They were still playing, like, stuff off the third album and then the fourth album. Like, they were getting ready for the next one with... Yeah, because Jared Leto doesn't...
[01:02:48] He stays with the time. He's not making music like he made when he first started. He's making music that people, young people of these times that are going to pay those concert tickets to go see him want to hear. He's a 52-year-old man who's still catering to 21-year-olds. Exactly. And it's like, you are better than that and you are more talented than that. And more importantly, like, those first two albums were so fucking good.
[01:03:14] And FYI, Jared Leto, people of our age will still pay those goddamn concert tickets if you would play the music we want to hear. I would. Yeah. Play some shit off that first album. I'd pay 100 bucks to come see you. 120. 200. Yeah. I would. Because I know that would be a great show. Yeah. But you would need Tona. Sorry. So they're never going to have it. I don't want to see him relate the whole band. All five.
[01:03:44] All five original members back on stage. That's not going to happen. No. I think one of them is like, you know, a farmer now. No. That was the dude from REM. Okay. Didn't he like turn Amish and become a farmer? He might have. Yeah. Oh my God. Every time REM comes. Because I'll play my Spotify on a Google speaker when I'm at work. And every time REM comes, I'm like, hey, Google, skip. Hey, Google. I just cannot stand them.
[01:04:13] I feel bad about that. But I just, I don't get into that much either. I can't. Occasionally, like a very rare occasion where they come up and I'm like, yeah, okay, I want to listen to Everybody Hurts. Yeah. Or it's the end of the world as we know it. No. But, yeah, like sometimes I am in the mood, like, or like, I'll be like, okay, I want to hear this. But most of the time, I'm just like, I don't need their bullshit.
[01:04:41] But, yeah, I don't, I think Michael Stipe is creepy. It's like him and the guy from Live. Yeah. I don't know why. I just think, especially when Michael Stipe puts that blue eyeshadow on. I get it and everything and you're an artist and all that, but it don't work on him. Yeah. Like, it doesn't work for him. You're not Bowie.
[01:05:07] Like, it's just, I don't mind when people do that, obviously. Right. Jared Leto wears black eyeliner and black nail polish and everything else. I just, if it don't work on you, don't do it. Don't force it on us, you know? Right. But, whatever. But, yeah. Quickly, going back to the primary show, okay? The merchandise. Uh-huh. When we went to get our merchandise, I got a t-shirt, the one I'm wearing now.
[01:05:37] Um, that's all, they're bands together, you know? So, um, Brittany, my daughter, she got the hoodie. Right. A perfect circle. A perfect circle hoodie and it had a really cool back on it. And, um, I got an album for $40. Yeah. Now, if you wanted a signed album, it jumped all the way up to $250. Yeah. I said, are you fucking not?
[01:06:06] Like, I didn't, I paid, what, $60 for my signed Gary Neumann one? Yeah. I, I'm not comparing apples. I'm just saying, come on. Right. I got the same album for $40. And just because it was signed, I have to pay $250? Like, that's insane. But anyways, I got the $40 one and then we walked away. And then we went to the bathroom. Brittany put the hoodie on.
[01:06:33] When she walked out, I saw the back of it and I was like, I gotta have this hoodie. Yeah. This hoodie is like really nice. I didn't see the back of it until she put it on. Yeah. So when we got downstairs, I bought another, I bought one for myself. But they had posters there, signed posters that were, um, 2000, I think, or something like that. Like, why? Like, why? And they came in with these like big cylinders that you could carry them in. Yeah.
[01:07:01] So you've seen all these people down on the floor with their cylinders. I thought it was hysterical. I mean, I couldn't stop laughing. I mean, remember I had a lot of, I ate a few companies before I went in there and it was just funny with all these cylinders sitting everywhere. I just find that amusing. But I just don't understand why they charge so much for that shit. I just don't.
[01:07:24] It's funny because like I watched, you know, Pat McAfee and he did the show a month or so ago. $200 they were. Anyways, go ahead. I'm sorry. $200 sounds more like it. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think it was 2000. No, I don't know what the merchandise was, but he did that big night out. And one of the things he pushed was the ticket prices.
[01:07:53] No ticket was more than a hundred dollars. Oh, okay. Like, and like the upper deck, because this is a PPG place and they had 12,000 people in there. Like the upper, the upper level was $20. Mm-hmm. He's like, that price has not changed. Yeah. You know? And I mean, and it sold out. Like they, they, they released more tickets later on, but it, the initial sale sold out in half an hour. Yeah. Yeah.
[01:08:21] And it, but it's that thing of like, he made the tickets so affordable that anybody could go. Right. Like if I really wanted to go to that show, I could have. Like that's how cheap the prices were. Well, I didn't mind the ticket price that I paid, but what really made me mad, what the ticket price I paid for this show wasn't all that bad. One, because I put it off for a long time. Yeah. I really did because I was trying to get, save more money to get better seats. Right.
[01:08:49] But the same seats that I kept looking at that I was striving for, the longer I waited, the lower the price went. But the rows in front of me kept telling me they're sold out. They're sold out. Those were sold, sold, sold. The rows in front of me and Brittany were so empty. Yeah. For the whole entire show. It pissed me off because I tried getting those, just to get a little bit closer. You know what I mean? And it kept doing, so it kind of pissed me off. Right.
[01:09:18] The price I paid was, I was okay with it because I waited so long, it went down like more than half than what I would have paid if I would have paid right when I saw them. Right. And those tickets were probably bought by a ticket broker who decided not to sell because the prices probably hit a point where it was like it wasn't worth their time. And that's a shame because when we were in line waiting to go in, there were people outside begging for tickets. Yeah. I'm like, you can't get my ticket, bitch. Get the fuck away from me.
[01:09:45] If I'm in line, I ain't selling my ticket. I've only done something like that twice. What? I went, when I went to Van Halen, I did not have a ticket. Oh. And that was at Star Lake. Okay. It was Star Lake. Yeah. And like the thing I, cause I, that was the first show I went to Star Lake to. So I didn't know Star Lake.
[01:10:14] So I was like, I'm sure I could find, you know, a scalper. I'll, I'll, I'll pay a little bit more, but I'll, I'll get in. Don't worry. I did not know that scalping tickets was like hard to do there. Yeah. Somehow I found somebody selling a ticket. Really? On the lawn. Wow. And I was like, oh, how much is that ticket? Like, I, I, I think I paid for a $20 ticket. I think I paid 60. Oh, that means for the last minute walking up like that.
[01:10:44] Right. That's not bad at all. And it was 1994. Oh, okay. Yeah. You know, and I was like, fuck, you are taking me. There goes my beer money. Yeah. But the other time I did it was, um, for a pirate home opener. Oh. At Three Rivers Stadium. Like. Me and my friends, like we all had the day off. We're like, let's go to the pirate home opener. There's like 10 of us. And.
[01:11:14] Go to the stadium. Jump on the gateway clipper. Go over to the Three Rivers Stadium. And I negotiated a deal for the 10 tickets. And people were like, kind of like, you know. Could you get better? I'm like, it's a fucking sold out game. Yeah. And then. It turned out that got like, I'm like, these tickets are all together. He's like, yeah, they're all together. And what turned out, I was actually sitting two sections away. Wow. Like all my friends got to be able to sit together. And I was like, two sections away. Because we needed like 10 tickets. Yeah.
[01:11:43] Like how we got nine together, I don't know. That last one. They're like. I'm like. Because I'm like, these are all together. He's like, yeah, these are all together. All together. I'm like, okay, great. You know, fantastic. Here's the money. And they're like, you know, first off, man, you could have got a better price. And two, you could have gotten us better seats. I'm like. Oh my God. It's a fucking sold out game. You know. And I'm looking at the tickets. And they're like, well, this ticket's like, not in the same section. I'm like. I'll take that fucking ticket since nobody's happy with me. Yeah.
[01:12:16] You're like, I'll gladly sit away from fucks. I'll gladly sit two fucking sections away and drink on my own. You ungrateful fucks. Yeah. It's a fucking one. You need to sit together. Yeah. Yeah. We should be scattered all over this fucking stadium. I got nine of you together. I'm sitting by myself. Yeah. Fuck all of you. Wow.
[01:12:41] The second thing, the one girl, Jen, came over and she's like, the one seat next to us is empty. If you want to come over, you can. I'm like, I don't know. You're so bitter. I know. Halfway through the game. Yeah. Which was probably a long period of time considering it's a baseball game. I went over. They're like, yeah, you did good, Sean. These seats aren't that bad. Yeah. Yeah. Fuck all of you. Yeah.
[01:13:10] Now go buy me some beer. Yeah. And some hot dogs and fries. Now, have you ever been on the other end of that where you actually sold a ticket to somebody looking for a song? The only time I've ever had to sell a ticket. I ended up selling to somebody I know at face value.
[01:13:33] And it was, I had tickets to the Monsters of Rock show with Metallica and Guns N' Roses at Three Rivers Stadium. Oh. And I was pissed because I got us good seats. Because that was a show, like normally, like, again, we're talking, this was like 1993 maybe, 1992. Okay.
[01:13:59] Back then, for you young kids, you couldn't just buy. Sipping there's some listening. Yeah. Yeah. You couldn't just buy tickets online. Right. Like, you had to, like, go. Yeah. Giant Eagle was my place. Yeah. Because they had Ticketmaster there. Well, or you, like, you had to, like, for a show like this, you had to, like, overnight. Oh, yes.
[01:14:23] You know, you would sit, get in line, like, the day before and hope, you know, well, they weren't doing that. Like, to fight that, they were having a lottery. And so you had to go to the Ticketmaster location and get an armband. And you had to wear that for, like, two fucking weeks. What? Yeah. Who would know?
[01:14:51] Well, like, but, like, the point was you couldn't lose. How would they know? Because you couldn't lose the armband. Because the armband had your number on it. And so the day the tickets went on sale was the day that they pulled whatever number it was that that was first. Okay. And then from there, so, like, let's say it was, like, between one and a hundred. Mm-hmm. So I've got wristband number 50. They pull 50. So I'm now first in line.
[01:15:21] If you had 51, you were next in line. Oh. If you had number one, you were behind number 100. Oh. So if you had number 49, you were at the end of the line. Yeah. Yeah. That's how it worked. Wow. Wow. So I figured out what, how did we do it? Because everybody was going at the time.
[01:15:51] They were going to, there were two places in Century 3 Mall you could buy tickets at. You could buy tickets at National Record Mart. Mm-hmm. Or Kaufman's. Okay. I got us in line in Kaufman's. Okay. And we ended up being, like, 10th in line in that line. Like, the way it got pulled, like, we ended up being the 10th. I was like, they're like, this is fucking phenomenal. Got our tickets.
[01:16:16] We were, we had the best seats we could afford, which were, like, it would have been, like, in the outfield. Mm-hmm. Like, we were up against, but we were, like, the first row in the outfield. With them playing on the field, so we would have been just off the field. Right, right. Like. But a little higher up. Right. Yeah. And they told me, like, the seats were fucking fantastic. Mm-hmm. Like, you were so dead on on this. I'm like, yeah, of course I was.
[01:16:44] Okay, but you're not too important on why you had to sell them. Can you keep going? I couldn't get the day off, and something happened that I couldn't afford to go. Oh. Like, it was like, I got, I can't remember what happened, but it was like, I can't go to this fucking show now. I can't afford to. Even though I bought my fucking ticket, my $50 ticket, which at the time was outrageous. I'm like, who the fuck buys $50 tickets? I know, right? Yeah. And now it's like, if you get a $50 ticket, you know where you're at. Yeah.
[01:17:15] If there even are any. Yeah, I'm sitting up in the sky. Yeah. I don't think they have $50 tickets anymore. So, like, that was like my situation. I can't remember, I wish I could remember what the fuck happened that I had to sell my ticket. I think at the time, my car, I wrecked my car. I think I was at, I think I wrecked my car. Oh, shit. And I couldn't afford to go. Oh.
[01:17:50] Oh. Yeah. But he, but he knew, he was part of our crew. Like, he initially wasn't going to go. And I'm like, yeah, Randy, we'll buy your ticket. I'm like. Did he pay the price you paid? Yeah. But still. I'm sorry he went through that show on cue. I'm so sorry. I was so pissed because I wanted to see that show. Oh, who wouldn't? You know. As much as I don't really like Guns N' Roses, I wouldn't mind seeing him live back then. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, because that was like, use your illusion tour. Right. I would have loved to see that.
[01:18:20] That was like, you know, I went to see Slash play November Rain. I know. You know, all that. You know. What a badass. Oh, I wish I could. It had to, I'm fairly certain I was in a car crash. I couldn't afford to go because I didn't have a car. Yeah. And then the bastards would pick you up. No. I think I was inconveniencing people because it was like, fuck, we were counting on your car. Like, yeah, so it's not.
[01:18:52] You fuckers. Yeah. Are these the same fuckers that were in good? Basically, yeah. Yeah. Same motherfuckers. Well, how long were you, before you were like, I don't want to be friends with these people anymore? Oh, it was a long time. It was a long time. I mean. Because I was drunk. I didn't know I was like, you know. That like, that explains everything. I was drunk. I was drunk. I was basically like, you know. But that was the feeling.
[01:19:22] So it was like, I'm doing all this shit. But like, at the same time, they were like, hey, here's beer. We picked up a six pack for you. I'm like, fuck. I'm in. What kind of chicanery are you getting into tonight? You know. That's all it took. Yeah. That was. I mean, as sad as that sounds, that's all it took. It was just like, you know. Hey, Sean, we got beer for you. I'm like, fuck. Okay. Okay.
[01:19:57] Shut up. These are the people. Like, I streaked through Glassport when the Penguins won their second Stanley Cup. You did? Oh, you streaked? Yes. For, I'm sorry. How, where? Like, right down Main Street in Glassport. Streaking as in full nudity. I was wearing shoes. Oh, you're allowed to wear shoes. I was like, I gotta wear shoes. No, did you have a trench coat on that was flapping in the breeze?
[01:20:27] No, no. I was flapping in the breeze. Okay, so where did this start and where did this end? You gotta describe everything. Okay, so. Excuse me. It started at this guy Rick's house. Okay. And it was all, his house was like a block up from the main drag and he lived all the way down. Do you know where the ice cream place is in Glassport? Yes. Yeah. He lived down the night into Glassport. Okay. So, I started his house.
[01:20:56] Ran down the main drag. Ran like two blocks up the main drag. Came back up to his street. And then two blocks back down to get to his house. Oh. Oh. So, you did almost like a two block run. Yeah. And all your other friends did that too. No, I was. I was running for beer. Oh. It was like, hey Sean, we got a six pack of beer if you'll do this. I'm like, fuck, the Penguins won.
[01:21:27] Oh, jeez. Yeah. Wow. Well, what time of year was this? It was June. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup, so it was like, you know. Was it daytime or nighttime? Nighttime. Okay. Yeah. It was like one in the morning. So, there were a couple of cars that saw me, you know. I just kind of gave him a wave. Got him a wave. Hey, how you doing? Let's go, Pens.
[01:21:58] Hong Kong. That's right. I gave him a wave. Gave him a wave. Oh, my God. Yeah. Oh, that's hysterical. Yeah. So, apparently, you both have had some fun this week. Are you reminiscing about your shrieking days? Ugh. Yeah. I was a fun drunk at times.
[01:22:29] I'm a firm drunk every time. Lately. Because I really haven't been getting drunk too much. It's been a couple days since I've had these. I haven't been drunk in over 20 years, so. When? No. Okay. I know you haven't been drunk, but. When's the last time you've actually drank an alcoholic beverage?
[01:22:58] Did you have one at Dwayne's wedding? No. Okay. When was the last? Because I was driving home. You didn't even have, like, one beer. No. Did not. I drank Pepsi all night. Okay. Okay. I know I've seen you with, because I remember finishing a six-pack of something you had. That's the last time I had an alcoholic beverage. How long ago was that? Oh, that was. I want to say that was 2020.
[01:23:26] Because I think that was during the pandemic. And we went. Like, you were picking up. That was when, like, that beer store had just opened up in Glassport. And they had that six-pack of Moosehead. And I was like. I bet that would be tasty. You should buy it for yourself. I'm like, no, I shouldn't. I'll buy it for you. I'm like, no, you shouldn't. And you're like, have a beer with me. And I was like, okay, fine.
[01:23:56] And I. Yeah, we sat on the back. We sat on the back. I sat on the back steps. Yeah. That went down too smooth. I was like, no, no. This is, no. Just stop. Just like five years ago. Yeah. I can't say this. And I think before that, it was like. It was very, very weirdly.
[01:24:26] Sometimes. I don't know if it's just I want to be manly. But, like, sometimes John can get me to do a shot. My brother-in-law, John? Yeah. Really? Like, there was that one. Am I not around when you do this? No. The last time he got me to do it, you were there. Because you were like, oh, don't do it, Sean. He was like, you want to do a shot of turkey? I'm like. Oh, fuck, man. I'm like, fuck it. Yeah. Don't do it. I feel like with him, because, like.
[01:24:57] I mean, John's in the military. John's got, you know, like a third degree black belt. Fourth degree. Fourth degree black belt. Like. And I don't. There's nothing that John and I have in common at all. Right. So, like, every once in a while, I feel like. I have to, like, take him up on that. Yeah. To, like, be like. Yeah. I know we share absolutely nothing in common, but I will have a drink with you. Because I think it's important to him. Yeah.
[01:25:26] But he also knows I don't drink. Right. So, like, lately he hasn't put that pressure on me. But there was a time where, like. I'd show up at the house and he'd be like. Shot? I'm like. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah. Fuck. He's going to hurt. Yeah. We'll be here for an hour or so. Yeah. Just doing one. Yeah. Well, I don't. I honestly. When I saw John last.
[01:25:55] When me and Brittany went over there for that dinner. He was sitting on a deck. But I honestly can't tell you what he was drinking. I don't know. Because I just don't pay attention. Right. So, I couldn't tell you if he's still drinking or not. I expected that Christmas. Because I was down in the basement. And John was down there. And then his brother David came down. And I thought for sure. He was going to be like. Oh, yeah. But he didn't. Like, I think.
[01:26:24] Like, John's at the point now where he's like. Yeah. You just don't drink. It's past. You know. Past experiences. Yeah. Yeah. No. They don't quit drinking on anybody. They just offer it if you want to take it. If you don't. I never felt like it was pushed on me. But it was just like. To me, it was like. Again, like. We have absolutely nothing in common. Like. So. Like. Just like to have him like. Respect me as a man almost.
[01:26:55] Like. You know. Because I've done nothing that you've done. You know. I don't have anybody that's done. I mean, John's done. But I mean like. And Dave. But it was. It was like that thing of like. You know. Just so you can at least respect me as a man. I'm willing to accept a shot of your. Hair. Booze. Lick or. Yeah. Oh my God. What is with. That. What is it? Turkey. Wild. What is it? Wild turkey. Wild turkey.
[01:27:24] I thought he was forbidden to say that. But. What did. I don't understand. Why are you. Like. I actually like put some on my finger. And put on my tongue one time. And I. I don't even understand what people. Why. Why. It's like. Gasoline can. I promise you. Gasoline probably tastes better. I like a good whiskey. Like if you give me. Some Jim Beam. Johnny Walker.
[01:27:55] Johnny. Sorry. I'm going to go to work and see if we have Johnny Walker. I'm going to ask. Do we have Johnny Walker? I'm going to text her right now. It's. Like. I've had Johnny Walker. Like. A handful of times in my life. Because that shit's expensive. Um. Oh. It's a high shelf. Yeah. Bourbon or whiskey? What's the difference between a bourbon and whiskey? Where it's made. I.
[01:28:25] Technically. It's a. Whiskey is bourbon. I'm. Stork is going to correct me on this. I know he is. Yeah. I want to hear about it if he does. Because he. He is the. The alcohol aficionado. Aficionado. But. All right. Well. Like. For it to be a bourbon. It has to have been made. Like. Like. Like champagne has to have been made in. In champagne France. For it to be considered. Actual champagne. champagne. Everything else is a sparkling wine. Really? Yes.
[01:28:54] I did not know that. Yes. For it to be considered a bourbon. It has to have been made in a select region in Kentucky. Oh. That makes sense. Yeah. Hi beanie. Everything else is a whiskey. Hmm. Good enough. Yeah. I'm sure I'll be corrected on that. I'm sure I'm wrong somehow. But I. Or maybe you. I know. I know bourbon has to be made in Kentucky. It's not made anywhere else in the world.
[01:29:23] For it to be considered bourbon. It has to be made there. That is just weird to me. Is there a bootleg bourbon then? That isn't being made in Kentucky? Well yeah. I mean. They make. They make similar. But I think it's classified as a whiskey then. If it's made anywhere else. It could taste like a. Like a bourbon. It could. You know. Smell like a bourbon. It could be a bourbon. But if it wasn't made in Kentucky. It's not considered a bourbon. Right. But. Gotcha. Huh. Okay. Good to know.
[01:29:53] Yeah. You didn't know anything about champagne? No. I had no clue. Yeah. I guess a certain. I don't know. There's a certain region of France. Because it's like the certain type of grape. So that's the only thing that's considered actual champagne. Everything else is a sparkling white wine. Well. When I buy stuff for mimosas now. I don't buy champagne anymore. I buy Prosecco. Right. But it's a sparkling. And I'm probably pronouncing that incorrectly. Right.
[01:30:23] But even the stuff you were buying before wasn't champagne. Obviously not. No. But it would say champagne on it. Pink champagne. Dry champagne. Right. But then it would also like probably tell you somewhere on there that it's actually. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. You know what I'm looking at. The fucking price tag. Right. I'm making mimosas out of them. Yeah. And I'm not giving them to the Queen of England. So they don't need to be high end. Right. Yo dude. That's my iPad. Like champagne is expensive.
[01:30:51] Like actual real champagne. Oh yeah. I look at some of those bottles and I'm like man. And if I could afford that. I'd be having a really good day. But you know what. I don't know. It'd be nice like once in a great while to be able to afford something that expensive. Just to experience that taste and refinery or whatever. But for the most part do you really need that on a daily basis? Like really.
[01:31:19] I mean I've had people say like sometimes the lower end stuff actually does taste better. Yeah. Like sometimes the generic works are like great value is not that bad of a brand people. But I will never falter from some like you know how men's and smuckers and shit like that. What?
[01:31:48] Add it. Anything you'd like to add to the proceedings? No. I'm not sure why I'm on here but thank you for having me on. Well you're on here because Ian is on holiday. Ian's on holiday. Yes. He's actually taking a he took a trip to a swanky area of the country. Swanky. And while he told me where he was going I'm not going to reveal it. I'll let him tell that story next week. That's his story to tell. Like he was like yeah we're going here.
[01:32:18] I'm like ooh swanky. He's like yeah we're going to the cheap end of that area. I'm like you know even the cheap end I couldn't afford to stay at. So. Aw.
