[00:00:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It's time to feel the rage! Welcome to a bite-sized episode of Film Rage. On these episodes we will focus on one film and one film only with special guests this time around.
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about the 1986 John Carpenter movie, Big Trouble in Little China, with, you guessed it, the nerdy photographer himself, Casey.
[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_01]: We seem to be doing a lot of John Carpenter, Kurt Russell movies with you there, Case.
[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Weird.
[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_01]: How'd that happen?
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Personal love of mine. I didn't want to go with just one. I couldn't pick just one of these films to go with. I think they're all connected to one another.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Alrighty, sir.
[00:00:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Not just because it's the same two major collaborators.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: There you have it. This is a special Film Rage episode only for patron members.
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: As part of your membership, you get special episodes, weekly updates on what Film Rage is seeing for the week and much more.

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, let's get to raging.
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Casey!
[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: The nerdy photographer. Also, for those of you who listen to us regularly, he is the God of Rage.
[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_04]: The voice of God and the voice of rage.
[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_04]: The voice of God rage.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_04]: The voice of God of rage?
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_04]: The voice of God of rage.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. All of those above.
[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So, Casey, this is our third in the Carpenter Russell trilogy.
[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And we've had some fun with those and our patrons have probably been very happy about it.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Tell us a little bit about why you chose the trilogy a little bit more deeper.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_04]: I just think that these films, these John Carpenter Kurt Russell films, really have an influence on the genres that they are.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_04]: John Carpenter is in my opinion, he's very hit or miss.
[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_04]: And I think that these films, for me, are hits.
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_04]: And they, because they influence the genres that they're in moving forward.
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_04]: He really, like with these, like broke some ground.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_04]: And whether you love movies or hate them, they definitely influenced people in the genre moving forward.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Nice. Well, it's, you know what, Carpenter's known as a groundbreaker.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: If my memory serves me correctly, he was the million dollar man for a while, right?
[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Where they thought, you can make a movie for a million dollars.
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Anybody else hear that about him?
[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Right? Like, wasn't that his...
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_04]: He was like a Kevin Smith-y type of, or like low budget.
[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you can make a really good movie for not a lot of money.
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. I seem to remember in particular, one of Murray's favorites, They Live.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that was one of the ones they said, yeah, can you make this on a million bucks?
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And he went, damn right I can.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll hire Roddy Piper.
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll hire a wrestler.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: They'll do anything to be in a movie.
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought...
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: He was really good at it.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_04]: He was excellent.
[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_04]: I always kind of wondered if Kurt Russell was originally intended to be that character.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, me.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Because there's...
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I can see it.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_04]: It felt like a little similar to the writing, but Roddy Piper is so fucking perfect in that.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_04]: He was.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_04]: I think this movie influences that.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_04]: That's where like the humor of this film, of Big Trouble, definitely influences the humor
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_04]: of They Live.
[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Because there's a lot of humor in They Live.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, there sure is.
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, let me tell you a little bit about Big Trouble in Little China.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: In a comedy action sci-fi love story that only John Carpenter can provide, where Kurt Russell
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: is his most charming and probably douchey at the same time.
[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It starts out as a kidnapping and then turns into the campiest, wackiest adventure with the
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: 80-est FX.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So funny, you can't help but laugh at it for most of it.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: On top of that, the acting is so completely awful by all the tertiary characters.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So, so bad.
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And the repulsive Kim Cattrall is actually one of the better actors in it.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: So what does that say to you?
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: The hell she is.
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: This film, I think, is Carpenter's way of introducing Chinese culture to the American
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: people.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Which, you know, I have some people that watch this that go, this is probably one of the
[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: most culturally insensitive movies that's ever been made.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, if this was your idea of introducing Chinese culture to America.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_03]: As someone who never saw it before, that's all I could think about the whole movie was,
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_03]: oh my God, the amount of people they're offending.
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's his name's name on his tour bus?
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: This does...
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: James Hong is so freaking awesome in this.
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: His dialogue alone is worth the price of admission.
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: This does suffer from a bunch of things though.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's first talk about the elephant in the room.
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I've already kind of alluded to it and even mentioned it.
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And I will probably, I'm sure everybody else from Film Rage will probably talk about it.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And that is the repulsive Kim Cattrall kind of ruins the movie a lot.
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_01]: A real lot.
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_00]: A real lot.
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Every minute of her on screen,
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: it kind of made me normally and naturally queasy just watching her about how bad she actually can act.
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Or should I say, not act.
[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And the first 40 minutes, it's trying way too hard to create some kind of cohesive story,
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_00]: which makes it pretty hard to enjoy.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_00]: But just like a fine wine, as this film ages, it just keeps getting better.
[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_00]: More wacky and completely ridiculous with Kung Fu Girls,
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Sombrero Superdudes, and of course, Lo Pan, the great and powerful James Hong.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And Kurt Russell with his douchey tough guy routine is so funny because he's just a complete idiot.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think he, you know, he is like the Bruce Campbell before Bruce Campbell.
[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just like, could you find another way to torture him in this?
[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I would say this is one of Carpenter's so bad it's funny type films.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, if you can't get behind the humor of it, it's going to be hard to really enjoy this.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I like this a lot.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I remember seeing this in cinemas when it came out and I've seen it probably a few times.
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I also own a copy of it, but I haven't seen it probably in 20 years.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think, unfortunately for me, I'm going to say the more I watch this, the less I like it.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't get to a rage because I still have so much that I like about this film.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: It was just a meh for me, unfortunately, on my, whatever I say, seventh or eighth watch of this film.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's fun and it's wacky.
[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm anxious to see what, let's see what Casey has to say.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Because he is a true love of this trilogy.
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_04]: I do.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I do.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_04]: And I think that, I agree with you.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_04]: First of all, it's problematic through modern eyes in a lot of ways.
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_04]: There's some issues.
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't think that this was intended as an introduction to Chinese cinema or culture.
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_04]: I think that this is John Carpenter's take on a kung fu movie.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I think this is like, you know, like he wanted to do a, like an American kung fu movie.
[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_04]: And there are some problems with the way that it's presented.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_04]: And they did, you know, it's a problem.
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Problematic is probably the best way to put it.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_04]: But what I will say is his cast, the Asian cast of this film are fantastic.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_04]: The Asian cast are awesome.
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, yeah.
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_04]: James Hong.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh my God.
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_04]: It's low pan.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_04]: And it's just like, he's, I still say like, sometimes when people will be like shocked,
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I'll be like low pan.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Did you say low pan?
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, which low pan do you mean?
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_04]: A little old man or the eight foot tall?
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's the same low pan.
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_04]: The same low pan.
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, Victor Wong is egg shen.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I think I, I still like to think that Victor Wong's character in this film and in Golden Child are the same person.
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah.
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, they probably are.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_04]: They probably are.
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they probably are supposed to be the same person, but it's like, you know, like,
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_04]: he's so like, and what I love about the humor of this movie is that Kurt Russell's character, Jack Burton is such the antithesis.
[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_04]: They Carpenter created the bad-ass Kurt Russell, right?
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_04]: We've got bad-ass Kurt Russell in escape from New York.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Got bad-ass Kurt Russell in thing.
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Kurt Russell is now like established as like a, you know, an action action star.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Actor, like whatever.
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_04]: And then we turn it completely on its head, completely subvert that view of Kurt Russell and make him the idiot.
[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Like he's just like Jack Burton is like the complete antithesis of every other Kurt Russell character.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_04]: He talks all the time.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_04]: He has no idea what he is doing.
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_04]: He tries to lead things, but he can't.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_04]: He's constantly screwing up.
[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_04]: And then just out of sheer luck, like it's all in the reflexes.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Like just that one moment, like he like saves the day because you're not expecting it at that point.
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Like you're really not expecting Jack Burton to say to do anything.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_04]: He keeps speaking about himself in the third person and nobody has any idea who he is.
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_04]: That's the best part.
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's the, you know, a Jack Burton says in a moment like this, who me, Jack Burton, me.
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Everybody's like, who the hell are you?
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_04]: It's the antithesis of what they've previously created.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually loving Casey talking about this movie more than I love the movie.
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_01]: You're making me think like, well, I should have liked this more, but I still do.
[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_04]: When he's like, when he's talking to Lopin, he's like, are you crazy?
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Is that your problem?
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's just like, like, if I personally find Jack Burton to be one of the funniest characters, you know, he's very charismatic.
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Can't take away from that universe.
[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Do we, do we call it a carpenter universe?
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Carpenter.
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_04]: There's so much going on in the carpenter universe.
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Carpenter verse.
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_04]: There's like, you've got, uh, serial killers.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_04]: You've got vampires.
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_04]: You've got ghosts on Mars.
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, you've got, uh, Elvis.
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Elvis.
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_04]: There's so much going on in this world that, uh, Jane Carpenter's created.
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_04]: It's, uh, yeah, I don't know.
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_04]: I, I, I think that what really makes this movie for me is you've got two things.
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_04]: You've got, it's the seriousness of the Asian actors and how good they are.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I mean, even the, the three storms, the three guys, he calls them the sombrero superheroes.
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_04]: They like the three storm.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like these guys were all really good martial artists.
[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, you know, there's, they're really good.
[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_04]: And then you've got the idiot of Jack Burton, you know, in there that just makes this, who's the foil to everything else that goes on the movie.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's what, that for me, that's what makes this something that I continue to, I continue to enjoy for that.
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, Jack Burton's inability to actually do anything.
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: To do anything is like happenstance.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, Oh, guess what?
[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It just happened to work out.
[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_04]: It just, it's the, it's the, like I said, it completely subverts the character that they created for the Kurt Russell superhero ish, like quality characters.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_04]: Well, the loner, you know, he's the exact opposite of everything that they created before.
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I think, uh, you saw this since this theaters, when it first came out.
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I think again, this is one of those movies.
[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_00]: If you grew up with it, it's gonna, it's gonna help you to have a, a warmer heart to it for sure.
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_04]: It's one of those movies that whenever it's there, there, like, like, I don't know, there are a number of movies that if I see something on, if it's like playing, I will just watch it from wherever.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_04]: And this is one of those movies.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Cause they just, I don't know.
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_04]: It just always makes me laugh.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a Tango and cash.
[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of Tango and cash.
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's a good segue to hear what Murray thought of this.
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause this is the first time Murray saw this movie.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I never, I heard about it.
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Never saw it before.
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and as the guys know, I am a huge fan of cheesy eighties movies.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I pretty much live in the eighties.
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: He does.
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't left the eighties.
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_03]: As much as I love cheesy eighties movies.
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_03]: And I do.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_03]: This one was a bit too much for me.
[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yeah.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Kim Cattrall was terrible.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And medium round was definitely no short round.
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I called the media round.
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause I didn't know what his character's name.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't remember it, but he reminded me of short round.
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It was just an adult size.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it was very hokey.
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_03]: It was disjointed.
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It was loaded with special effects and just a completely ridiculous plot.
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Um, as you alluded to, it actually had a very similar plot to the golden child, which was released roughly the same time.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_03]: In fact, John Carpenter was so worried about that, that he pushed up production by about six months.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_03]: So this came out before the golden child.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and they both did about as well at the box office.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_00]: This was a bit of a bomb in the box office.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_03]: So it was golden child, but I enjoyed that one cause Eddie Murphy, but, um, I want the night.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, uh, you know, for me, Eddie Murphy was, he was box office golden eighties, but that's another issue.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: That'll, that'll be another discussion for another time.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Um, this was actually John Carpenter's last studio film in the eighties.
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_03]: After he had so many problems with the head of the studio doing this one, this, the lack of promotion.
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_03]: They didn't know how to promote it.
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: They got no play at all.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And it just, that's why it bombed.
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, Prince of Darkness and they live were actually independent films.
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_03]: There were the two you released after that.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, he pretty much had it with the studio after this one.
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause they basically screwed him over, but they also originally wanted Jackie Chan.
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, in one of the roles, I'm assuming his sidekick guy or the guy who was the main guy.
[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_03]: He has wank.
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_03]: But of course he was worried about his English.
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So maybe he didn't ask him or he turned him down.
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, but this was also released just before aliens.
[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So they are promoting aliens at the same time.
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_03]: So obviously, you know, they didn't do jack shit about this one.
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yeah, it was a, it was a romp.
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there was a lot going on in this movie.
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: It just, I don't know.
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It just, I will, as, as Bryce is fond of saying sometimes, I don't know what's going on.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Which was me the entire ride, man.
[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't understand what's going on.
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_03]: He says that quite a bit sometimes.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_03]: So that, that was me for this movie.
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yeah, it was, it was fun, but I'm like, what?
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_03]: He, then they're doing what?
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, I don't know.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, yeah.
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Just out with it.
[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_03]: You're, don't be afraid to speak your mind, Murray.
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: You're not going to like it, but yeah, I'm going to give this a rage.
[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_04]: All right, then.
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_03]: In the Dragon Carpenter verse, this was probably my least favorite.
[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_04]: What do you have seen?
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_04]: There you go.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Ugh, really Ghost of Mars.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_03]: That I've seen it.
[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I haven't seen all 18 of his films.
[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I've seen one half.
[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_00]: He's not, he's not a hardcore Carpenter fan like us.
[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_03]: No, of the ones I've seen, this is my least favorite.
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So, Big Trouble in Little China.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I love James Hong.
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, he couldn't save this.
[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, I'm sorry, but,
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Kim Cattrall has the rare ability to make any movie seem so much worse than it actually is.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: With her mere presence.
[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Mondo's become mehs and mehs become rages.
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I remember liking this film so much when I first saw it three and a half decades ago.
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_01]: There are a few laughs to be had, but there's also Kim Cattrall.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So that makes this film that would have been a meh, a Kim Cattrall rage,
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's just no getting around it.
[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I could sit here and talk about it forever,
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but every single time she's, her stupid face was on the screen.
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_01]: It just killed it for me.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And it shouldn't have.
[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know what?
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I shouldn't be, because there's so much not terrific acting in it.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not, and it's not even not terrific acting,
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_01]: because the Asian guys are great.
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's, it's intentional.
[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But hers doesn't seem intentional.
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: She's just bad.
[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And I can't get around it.
[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And she makes me angry to see her on screen.
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter what she's in.
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So this, this movie literally never had a chance.
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm ashamed to say it, but it didn't because she's in it.
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_01]: And I can't get over that.
[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, Murray, who is she married?
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Who is she married to at the time?
[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea.
[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Because it sounds like Carpenter has this thing where
[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_00]: people that are married to people, they get in the movie together.
[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I'm pretty sure Kurt Russell wasn't married to his, his wife.
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Goldie Hawn?
[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_03]: No.
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure he's with Goldie by this point.
[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_03]: But maybe she should have been in it.
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Goldie.
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Goldie would have been great in this.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Goldie Hawn would have been great.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I know.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_03]: That's awesome.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Unlike some of the other times we've talked about casting in some of his movies.
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Um, this is one where I think a lot of people could have played a lot of different people.
[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of different roles.
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Except for James Hong.
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Like nobody could have played James Hong but James Hong.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I know, they definitely got it right with all the Asian actors.
[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_03]: But all the Caucasians were terrible.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, and no offense to Kurt Russell, but you know, they could have replaced him with,
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, anybody at that time.
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm thinking.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh!
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh!
[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh!
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Wow!
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't, I mean, he was, he was typical Kurt Russell is what I would say.
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I was feeling the...
[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Leave Jack the Burton alone.
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I was feeling the, uh, computer wears tennis shoes or flubber days.
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Woo!
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_00]: With Kurt Russell in this one.
[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It was like, not that I was disappointed.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause you know, he is so funny in this.
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: To watch him act.
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well yeah, he saved the movie.
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_03]: If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have liked it much.
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh really?
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't James Hong?
[00:19:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause that was what he used to say to me.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, he has.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_03]: That's all it.
[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_03]: I remember, I just know him from Tremors.
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_03]: He was like one of the funniest parts of Tremors.
[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Who, James Hong?
[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's the one.
[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_03]: The, the, the old guy who had new restaurant, not the evil guy, right?
[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: No, that's not, that's exactly.
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Whichever that one was, the guy in the restaurant, that's the guy.
[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_03]: That's Victor Wong.
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Victor, yeah.
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, Victor.
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_03]: No, the other guy was cool too.
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Victor Wong.
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_03]: He's been in a lot of movies too, but.
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_04]: He's been in the most movies of anyone ever.
[00:19:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_04]: James Hong.
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Has the longest film resume of anyone in the world.
[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's like 500 movies.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_00]: He's made so many movies.
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know.
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like 550 at this point.
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_00]: He's been so, but he's so old too.
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like in his nineties.
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_04]: He's 80, 90 years old now.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_00]: He's 90.
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's 90 something.
[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Where's your fact check?
[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_04]: He's been doing movies since he was a teenager.
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's been awesome since then too.
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, pretty much whenever they need a, you know, authentic Asian character, they call
[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_03]: him.
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Just, they want an iconic, an iconic, awesome person.
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_01]: They just want an awesome actor.
[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_01]: They call him.
[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_03]: James Hong.
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_03]: James Hong.
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_04]: And Victor Wong is, plays.
[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Victor Wong is a guy I'm thinking of because he was in tremors.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_00]: 455.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_00]: He's.
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Credits to be.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause I, I remember when everything everywhere, uh, all at once came out, they mentioned
[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_03]: that he'd been in like, yeah.
[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Plus he's in, he's been everybody's favorite episode of Seinfeld.
[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Cartwright.
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't have a favorite.
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Cartwright.
[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_00]: He was born in 1929.
[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_00]: So he's actually 94.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, he was 90 when he made, uh, Michelle Yeoh's movies.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: He was already old.
[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait to see.
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead.
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Case.
[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_04]: I said, he's, he's an old man.
[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_04]: He's been in a lot of stuff.
[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Balls of fury.
[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_04]: He, he, he also has no qualms about what the movie is.
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_04]: No.
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, he'll say yes to everybody.
[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_00]: My name's on the check.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm here.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_04]: But he will give it his all.
[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, there's no question.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_04]: He, he gives it like whatever the movie is, he is in there and he is giving 100%
[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_04]: James Hong.
[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_04]: And he's great.
[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_04]: And I also love Victor Wong who plays egg Shen.
[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_04]: And cause I think he's just like, he also has that.
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah.
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_04]: He was the one for golden child as well.
[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_04]: He's playing the same character in both movies pretty much, but the seven demon bag, it's
[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_04]: when he gives them the invulnerability potion and everybody's just sort of like riding down
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_04]: on the elevator.
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_04]: I feel really good about this.
[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: You're bringing up all these moments that are, that were all great moments in this movie.
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So why didn't I like it?
[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Because Kim Cattrall is, I think he didn't like it because it feels like it's not
[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_04]: two movies.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Maybe.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Honestly, I think that the problem, it feels like there's, there's the kidnap plot part
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_04]: of the movie and then they go in and they, they rescue all those girls from the thing.
[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_04]: And that feels like it's its own movie.
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Once I, then you get the supernatural movie that comes after that.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Like there's, there feels like there's like two parts.
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was odd.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Which it makes it, it's kind of makes it wacky do.
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause it's like so serious.
[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_00]: The first part, even though there's the comedy in it.
[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, it gets to that point in the movie and it's just like, he said, you
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: know what?
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's just get fucking crazy.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go fucking crazy.
[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_04]: And that's like where, that's when like John Carpenter's weed kicked in.
[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, yeah, man, this is going to be, this is going to be so awesome, dude.
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's blow that guy's head up.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's blow that guy's head up.
[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_00]: That's so awesome.
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_04]: It's going to inflate like a balloon.
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know, to your point in other, other cases with Carpenter, what I liked, what I
[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_00]: liked about this actually a lot was that he doesn't explain anything.
[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's like, there's this whole, you know, Chinese cultural thing that's happening
[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and that it's like, there's these different magics and then there's, there's all these
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_00]: things.
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is like, you could go on for probably days and weeks and years trying to research
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_00]: if any of this stuff is real, but it doesn't matter.
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause if you go back and maybe to your point earlier too, about this one wanting to be
[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_00]: is Kung Fu film, right?
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that they have that kind of stuff in, in Hong Kong Kung Fu movies too.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Like where you're paddling the zombie or they're battling like a vampire or whatever it is.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And it just makes it fun.
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause just throw different genres all together.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_04]: It's just a big mish mash of stuff.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_04]: And like, like he said, there's no explaining it.
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't explain anything.
[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like, you are in the world and that's it.
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm just showing you that I don't, he shows, he doesn't tell.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_04]: He just like, that's it.
[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, and that is one of the things I love about him as a director, even in the movies
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_04]: that I don't like, it's, it's the same thing.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't try to explain anything like Prince of Darkness.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't really think he gets a little bit of like the physics explanation of things,
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_04]: but like, you know, like that's just the characters talking.
[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_04]: It's not like, I'm just going to, we're going to like really sit down and give this huge,
[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_04]: you know, I don't know, narrative thing.
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_04]: It's, uh, he doesn't want to like waste time with, you know,
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Stupid plot ideas.
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Exposition.
[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_00]: This is like, if you're going to cast Alice Cooper in a movie, it's like, you don't need
[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_00]: any explanations.
[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He's in the movie.
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be fantastic.
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_00]: He said, Alice Cooper is the reverse of Kim Cattrall.
[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a movie that could have been just okay.
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_00]: You put Alice Cooper in it and it's instantly becomes a mondo.
[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_04]: It instantly becomes something you want to see.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say that it doesn't instantly become a monster.
[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Wayne's world too.
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I was about to say, actually he was in the first one.
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he was in the second one.
[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was in this.
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_01]: The second one was Aerosmith.
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought the first one was Aerosmith.
[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_03]: No, the second one was Aerosmith.
[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause they were doing Wayne stock in the second one.
[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_03]: The first one was, they, they can't believe that they went to see Alice Cooper at a concert.
[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_03]: That's, that's what I, because it's in Wayne's world.
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_03]: No, the first one, he went to see, uh, Alice Cooper's concert and, uh, what's his
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_03]: name?
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Rob Lowe is stealing his woman.
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And Rob Lowe is stealing his woman.
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And that, you know what?
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: That sounds like maybe Casey will be coming back in the future.
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: We should do talk about Wayne's world.
[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00]: One and two.
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_00]: We should do that.
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Is what I think might happen.
[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Or maybe we'll do the Alice Cooper collective.
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Every movie Alice Cooper's been in.
[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Everything he's ever been in.
[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_04]: Two of the, two of the guys from this movie, from Victor Wong, who plays Egg and Dennis
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Dunn, who's Wang, are also in Prince of Darkness.
[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_04]: There you go.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's because it's an awesome movie.
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, is there anything that's missing that anybody hasn't said that they want to
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_00]: get off their chest about big trouble in little China?
[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I hate Kim Cattralli.
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't remake.
[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Just hate her.
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't remake.
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that too late?
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Haven't they already done it?
[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_04]: No, they were, there was talk about doing it with the rock.
[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Having the rock play.
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_04]: With the Dwayne Johnson.
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I really, I, yeah.
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I really thought that they were actually making it, but I guess I was mistaken.
[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_04]: There was a lot of like, he, like the rock Dwayne, the rock Johnson.
[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Rock Dwayne Johnson.
[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_04]: That he wanted to make much like he kept saying he wanted to do black Adam.
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_04]: He wants to remake everything.
[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, Kim or what movie he was doing.
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't the rock just get what he wants.
[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He's a superstar.
[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_01]: He's the only living movie star in the world right now.
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that that is going down to no, he isn't John Cena and the, okay, we're going
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_04]: off topic, but I'm going to say it right now.
[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_04]: John Cena and Dave Bautista are the actors that the rock wishes.
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's irrelevant to the fact that the rock is the only living movie star in
[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_01]: the world right now.
[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You put his name above a movie and it sells tickets.
[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Unlike anybody else in the world.
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no one else.
[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying it's right.
[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Casey.
[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying it's fact.
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: There's, there's no sense arguing with them.
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_00]: This is the same guy that thinks Ben Affleck can act.
[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's actor of our generation.
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, there's no way.
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_01]: That has nothing to do with the price of tea in China.
[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_01]: In, in big trouble in China, in little China, big trouble.
[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Which is a perfect segue.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, Casey, is there anything else you need to say?
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Because Bryce had his, his fair share with Kim Cattrall isms.
[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_04]: I, I, like I said, just don't remake this.
[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_04]: This is a, this is one of those things that it is.
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_04]: It's cheesiness and whatever it's glory.
[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_04]: I have a love for, even if you don't like it, I think that it is a product of its time.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Leave it alone.
[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Uh, you don't need to redo this in any way.
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_04]: I think that, uh, between the other Caucasian cast, other than, than Kurt Russell has, is, has some acting problems.
[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Um, I think that Kurt Russell and the Asian actors in this, like the way that they play off of each other is just wonderful.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_04]: Like everybody that he works with from egg to Wang to low pan.
[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it is.
[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_04]: It's just, he's fantastic.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_04]: It is.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_04]: He has the best one-liners in this movie.
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_04]: They're terrible.
[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, the whole, if I'm not back in five minutes, call the president.
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Like he's just like, he just throws this stuff out there that you just like, this is ridiculous.
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_04]: This is just so terrible.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_04]: It's all in the reflexes.
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just, uh, I gotta say, Casey, I've enjoyed talking about this movie with you so much more than I enjoyed the movie.
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Nice.
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_04]: It's just fun.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_04]: It's just fun.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't have to make any sense.
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_04]: And it didn't.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_04]: It didn't.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I would agree with you.
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It was fun.
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I, I, I still do like this movie.
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I know every time I watch it, I like it a little less.
[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause at one point I love this movie.
[00:29:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So did I.
[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah.
[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it's fun.
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I would say it's fun.
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Marie, anything else you want to add?
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it was just, it was a lot.
[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a lot for you to take in.
[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a lot to take in.
