[00:01:52] Now let's get to raging before Bryce starts to come down from his high.
[00:02:29] Yes.
[00:02:36] Quad of movies.
[00:02:40] You heard of half of them.
[00:02:43] First one on your list is problemista.
[00:02:47] I never heard of.
[00:02:49] Did you see the trailer?
[00:02:50] I watched the trailer.
[00:02:51] Nice.
[00:02:52] I think you'd like it.
[00:02:53] And I see Tilda Swinton.
[00:02:54] Yes.
[00:02:55] Which you guys like.
[00:02:57] Once mesmerizing Tilda Swinton.
[00:02:59] The still mesmerizing.
[00:03:00] Once and always.
[00:03:01] Not officially.
[00:03:02] I don't care about your list.
[00:03:04] They're always mesmerizing once they're always mesmerizing.
[00:03:06] There's only room for one.
[00:03:10] There can be only one.
[00:03:12] That's right.
[00:03:13] Don't be written in a way.
[00:03:14] What we need to do is every person on the mesmerizing list starring the same movie.
[00:03:19] Yeah.
[00:03:20] Then we can get it down to one.
[00:03:22] Everybody.
[00:03:23] What was that movie from the...
[00:03:25] I think it was the 70s or 80s.
[00:03:26] It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.
[00:03:28] That was kind of like every actor in Hollywood was in that movie at the same time.
[00:03:32] That's what we need right now.
[00:03:34] Anyways.
[00:03:35] Yeah.
[00:03:36] So problemista looked really weird and thought it was her usual weird self and it looked
[00:03:43] kind of quirky and funny.
[00:03:45] I don't know.
[00:03:47] Let's just give it a double mondo.
[00:03:48] Double mondo.
[00:03:49] Okay.
[00:03:50] Okay.
[00:03:51] Okay.
[00:03:53] Monkey man.
[00:03:55] Oh, monkey man.
[00:03:57] With Dev Patel.
[00:03:59] Apparently produced or organized by...
[00:04:02] He directed it.
[00:04:03] And wrote it.
[00:04:04] And wrote it.
[00:04:05] Also...
[00:04:06] And starred in it and produced it.
[00:04:08] Can I finish it?
[00:04:09] Yeah.
[00:04:10] And...
[00:04:11] And subtle...
[00:04:12] I think he also did set design.
[00:04:13] There's another name involved too which if you let me get it out.
[00:04:16] Oh, what is it?
[00:04:17] I think he painted some stuff in it.
[00:04:18] He probably did too.
[00:04:19] What?
[00:04:20] What?
[00:04:21] Did he do security too?
[00:04:23] Oh, it's Peely.
[00:04:24] Peely.
[00:04:25] Yeah.
[00:04:26] Jim was looking forward to this.
[00:04:28] He loves his Dev Patel.
[00:04:29] Who doesn't?
[00:04:30] I don't.
[00:04:31] What?
[00:04:32] Why did I ask?
[00:04:34] He doesn't like the green knight.
[00:04:36] I only did in these movies but I'm not going to get into that.
[00:04:42] Yeah.
[00:04:43] Of course Jim gave it a mondo because it's Dev Patel.
[00:04:45] Okay.
[00:04:46] Bryce, just based on the amount of pure action in this movie, I don't think he did.
[00:04:52] I think it's a man.
[00:04:54] Really?
[00:04:55] Because I know Bryce doesn't like...
[00:04:57] He likes his slow movies with walking.
[00:04:58] He doesn't really like a lot of fights.
[00:05:00] Punching and dick kicking.
[00:05:01] Exactly.
[00:05:02] That's not really his thing.
[00:05:03] Hey, any movie that's done well, Bryce can mondo.
[00:05:07] That is true.
[00:05:09] Some movies that aren't done well, Bryce can mondo.
[00:05:11] Yeah, that's also true.
[00:05:13] Because of monos like candy.
[00:05:14] Some movies that are really well made, Bryce can rage.
[00:05:17] Yes, that's right.
[00:05:18] Yeah, he has the worst reigning system.
[00:05:20] He does.
[00:05:21] That's why I can't figure him out.
[00:05:24] Then we got The First Omen.
[00:05:27] The First Omen.
[00:05:28] Which again, Jim loves his horror movies and he likes his tortured Catholics with their
[00:05:34] demons.
[00:05:35] Oh my God.
[00:05:36] I do love torturing.
[00:05:37] You think he had a hell of a weekend at the movies?
[00:05:39] I think that's probably a double man.
[00:05:41] I don't think it was that great.
[00:05:43] Okay.
[00:05:44] So we're going down on that one.
[00:05:45] Well, I don't think any of these are rages but it's that way.
[00:05:48] I think you guys had a hell of a weekend at the movies.
[00:05:51] You know what?
[00:05:52] They don't call him the amazing Merman for nothing.
[00:05:54] And the last one, Dog Man, which I vaguely heard of.
[00:05:57] I saw the trailer and I saw that probably one of the creepiest actors ever in Hollywood.
[00:06:05] And also one of our favorites.
[00:06:07] And one of your favorites was in it.
[00:06:09] And he looked just weirder than usual.
[00:06:12] Yes.
[00:06:13] I'm going to give that a double mondo for you guys too.
[00:06:16] Double mondo.
[00:06:17] I don't know about you Bryce, but I think Murray's channeling all his energy into his amazingness
[00:06:23] this week.
[00:06:24] And again, I don't really care.
[00:06:26] You know what?
[00:06:27] That's why people listen because Murray just doesn't care.
[00:06:30] He's still amazed.
[00:06:31] He just don't give up.
[00:06:33] That's right.
[00:06:34] I really don't.
[00:06:35] A ba-doop, a ba-donk-a-donk.
[00:06:37] I think we should just run this music for another 45 minutes.
[00:06:42] Yeah, find me something better.
[00:06:44] Oh, this is pretty groovy.
[00:06:47] This is groovy.
[00:06:50] This is groovy.
[00:06:52] This is groovy.
[00:06:54] This is groovy.
[00:06:56] Problemista.
[00:06:58] Problemista.
[00:06:59] Is that what we're talking about first?
[00:07:01] Problemista.
[00:07:02] On your list.
[00:07:04] All right.
[00:07:06] Problemista is the feature length directorial debut for Julio Torres, who also stars and
[00:07:13] wrote this.
[00:07:14] What?
[00:07:15] It is a typical first film in that the director has a lot of ideas and puts them all in their
[00:07:22] debut effort.
[00:07:23] Sometimes that works and sometimes it misfires.
[00:07:26] What?
[00:07:27] In this case, it works.
[00:07:29] Torres plays a wannabe toy designer named Alejandro from El Salvador who wants more than anything
[00:07:36] to work for Hasbro.
[00:07:38] But until that happens, he needs to find someone to sponsor him as he has been recently
[00:07:42] in a company that freezes folks so they can be awoken at a later date and because of this,
[00:07:46] his work visa is about to run out.
[00:07:48] Enter Elizabeth, played by Tilda Swinton who is an eccentric widower sort of who wants
[00:07:53] to have a show for her sort of dead husband's paintings of eggs.
[00:07:58] Although I guess he isn't really dead as he is frozen in a container where Alejandro
[00:08:04] used to work.
[00:08:06] It is a relationship between Alejandro and Elizabeth that takes this film to very,
[00:08:10] very joyful places.
[00:08:12] Every scene between them was something to behold with Swinton chewing up the scenery and Torres
[00:08:16] reacting to the tornado of madness that surrounded him.
[00:08:20] There are things in this that I cannot believe worked at all such as an actor playing Craigslist
[00:08:26] which in concept is like the dumbest thing to ever put on screen but in reality,
[00:08:32] under the direction of Mr. Torres, this was really quite amusing.
[00:08:36] There are quite a few other whimsical occurrences throughout and for some reason
[00:08:42] on the back of some really good writing and one really great actor in Swinton,
[00:08:48] everything just kind of works.
[00:08:50] It shouldn't, it has no business working but it does.
[00:08:55] I found the whole film quite a bit of fun.
[00:08:59] It was a very enjoyable man.
[00:09:01] I couldn't quite get it to Amando.
[00:09:04] Who knew?
[00:09:06] There you go.
[00:09:07] Okay, you know, we just kind of talked about the fact that Bryce sometimes gives out
[00:09:13] Mondos just because of one person's performance.
[00:09:16] In this performance, Murray, this was Tilda Swinton at her absolute best.
[00:09:20] She was fantastic.
[00:09:21] The fact that he did not give out a Mondo to Tilda Swinton's best performance of her life.
[00:09:27] No.
[00:09:28] Oh by far this is Tilda Swinton at her best.
[00:09:30] She was amazing as usual.
[00:09:32] This was at her absolute best.
[00:09:36] There was, yeah, this goes to show Bryce.
[00:09:39] He was an enjoyable man.
[00:09:41] You're an enjoyable man.
[00:09:43] I would concur.
[00:09:45] I am an enjoyable man.
[00:09:47] You used to be fucking dynamic but now you're just an enjoyable man.
[00:09:50] Now I'm an enjoyable man.
[00:09:52] I actually more comfortable with that.
[00:09:54] Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
[00:09:55] Less to live up to.
[00:09:56] There's too much pressure being bleep and dynamic.
[00:09:59] Can't all be that.
[00:10:00] Well, Murray, if you ever thought you could laugh more than anything else on the planet
[00:10:09] by someone saying the word database multiple times in a movie
[00:10:15] then you have not seen Tilda Swinton in her absolute most wacky
[00:10:21] and I'm going to say manically weird and hilarious roles she has ever played.
[00:10:29] Every single situation that she is in
[00:10:32] and every word that she says in this movie
[00:10:35] made me laugh nonstop throughout this entire movie.
[00:10:38] But you may ask, what was this movie about?
[00:10:42] Well Bryce kind of already mentioned it a little bit.
[00:10:45] Well, it's about a boy who dreams of eventually becoming a toy designer
[00:10:50] so he leaves his fantasy world with his mom in El Salvador
[00:10:54] to escape to New York and tries to get work
[00:10:58] Well actually tries to get work
[00:11:00] but more importantly get a work visa in a convoluted system
[00:11:05] I guess the Americans have about getting a work visa
[00:11:07] which sounds almost impossible to be able to achieve.
[00:11:10] So he can eventually go to go work for Hasbro
[00:11:13] and you have two of the most unlikely people become friends
[00:11:19] and learn that to be sorry
[00:11:22] to become better humans by experiencing each other's selves.
[00:11:26] This film is funny and quirky and silly and fantastical
[00:11:29] and wackadoo at times
[00:11:31] and Julio Torres who plays Alandro
[00:11:39] has to try and get his sponsorship
[00:11:44] at times in unbelievable crazy ways
[00:11:48] but nothing phases him
[00:11:50] eventually Tilda Swinton helps him learn
[00:11:52] that it's not about having to choose between everything
[00:11:55] and getting nothing
[00:11:57] it's about getting everything and also getting everything
[00:12:01] This movie is a fantasy adventure comedy for the ages
[00:12:06] I loved every single frame of this film
[00:12:09] This movie was almost perfect
[00:12:11] It was a super duper mondo
[00:12:13] and I say A24 is there nothing you can't do
[00:12:17] Yeah, A24 they're just...
[00:12:19] They have a 90% track record
[00:12:22] I think it's higher than that
[00:12:24] I've never given a rage to an A24 film
[00:12:27] Well, you but that's...
[00:12:29] Yeah, I've never given a rage I don't think either
[00:12:32] Yeah, I guess perhaps I should frame it is that
[00:12:35] A24 I should say
[00:12:38] there is everything you can do
[00:12:40] because that's a positive spin that Tilda Swinton would have done
[00:12:44] Everything at once too
[00:12:46] Yeah, everywhere
[00:12:48] This is a total mondo
[00:12:50] How you didn't get this to mondo
[00:12:52] We were both laughing through the entire movie
[00:12:54] There's never been a comedy that was as funny as this
[00:12:57] Tilda Swinton's character in this
[00:13:00] Everything she says
[00:13:02] She goes to the absolute extreme with absolutely everything
[00:13:05] and Alejandro just finds a way to just pull her back to reality
[00:13:09] like a fishing lure
[00:13:11] The two of them working together was
[00:13:13] the best actors like he was fantastic in this
[00:13:16] how he could be so dry
[00:13:17] His scene where he
[00:13:20] He walks into work the one day and he trips
[00:13:23] That alone just made me laugh
[00:13:25] It was just crazy
[00:13:26] And then there's a bank scene
[00:13:28] where they charge him $35 every time he overdraws himself
[00:13:33] And then of course the service charges overdraw
[00:13:35] So he gets charged another $35
[00:13:38] He's like oh, he thought he had like
[00:13:40] you know 50 bucks in his account
[00:13:42] No, he had like his minus like
[00:13:44] negative 600
[00:13:45] But mostly all because of service charges
[00:13:47] And all he wanted to do
[00:13:49] was get the person he was talking to
[00:13:51] to admit that that was the stupidest thing
[00:13:53] that she'd ever heard
[00:13:54] and she just couldn't do it
[00:13:56] Yes
[00:13:57] It was good
[00:13:58] Yeah, this...
[00:14:00] The trolley scene was also incredible
[00:14:02] Trolley scene was great
[00:14:03] Like there were so many things in this
[00:14:05] Alejandro's roommate
[00:14:07] She didn't even charge him
[00:14:09] She's like
[00:14:10] He rents his room out because he can't afford it
[00:14:13] because he's trying to get a job
[00:14:15] and Tilda Swinton's character is not really paying him yet
[00:14:17] because he doesn't have a...
[00:14:19] Well, he also is not supposed to get paid
[00:14:22] Yeah, you're not allowed to get paid
[00:14:24] but you have to pay them $6,000
[00:14:26] But also the guy who's
[00:14:30] the guy who's his case worker
[00:14:32] with getting his work visa
[00:14:35] is like well just work under the table
[00:14:37] It's like okay I don't think that you're supposed to do that
[00:14:39] and then he also offers him a job
[00:14:42] and he's like well how is he going to give him the job without
[00:14:44] So it was just like
[00:14:46] one thing after another this
[00:14:48] It was wacky but this was...
[00:14:49] And man did he have to do some odd jobs
[00:14:51] Yeah, he had to do...
[00:14:53] He had to go and become a windshield wiper
[00:14:57] in a sex maniacs apartment
[00:15:01] and do sex things
[00:15:03] You had to do sex things while cleaning a window
[00:15:06] It's different
[00:15:09] How you did not love this movie?
[00:15:12] I can't even understand
[00:15:14] This is probably one of my top 10 movies
[00:15:16] I liked it a lot
[00:15:17] This might make my top 100 movies of all time
[00:15:19] I really enjoyed it
[00:15:20] You're wacky
[00:15:21] It was a high math
[00:15:23] Alright, well...
[00:15:24] Well we're seeing, go see it
[00:15:26] I thought you were going to nail this, Murray
[00:15:28] I really did
[00:15:29] Well again I think he was...
[00:15:31] I think he should have given it a month
[00:15:33] Obviously he thought it was a month
[00:15:34] Yeah
[00:15:35] For whatever
[00:15:36] I thought it was a...
[00:15:37] By the way, I didn't...
[00:15:39] It's right there
[00:15:40] I didn't change my rating
[00:15:42] Yeah but you've given
[00:15:44] Mondos out for just performances
[00:15:46] You've given crappier movies Mondos
[00:15:48] Yeah, that's what I'm saying
[00:15:50] That still could happen this podcast
[00:15:52] Alright, well...
[00:15:53] Okay, well here we go
[00:15:55] Okay so, Monkey Man
[00:15:58] We know Dev Patel the actor
[00:16:01] We do
[00:16:03] We know Dev Patel the writer
[00:16:05] Yeah
[00:16:06] We know Dev Patel the producer
[00:16:08] Yeah
[00:16:09] And now we know Dev Patel the director
[00:16:11] Yes
[00:16:12] Oh also
[00:16:13] I thought he did Green Night as well
[00:16:14] No, I didn't direct it
[00:16:15] I thought he did
[00:16:16] And we also know Dev Patel the monkey man
[00:16:19] Mmm
[00:16:20] The story of a young boy traumatized in his youth
[00:16:23] by seeing his mom murdered by none other
[00:16:26] than the police and I'm putting in quotes here
[00:16:28] evil politicians
[00:16:30] His religion is that of following the Hindu god
[00:16:33] Hanuman
[00:16:35] or the monkey god
[00:16:36] He lives in the underbelly of society
[00:16:39] where he lives his life as a terrible
[00:16:42] ring fighter dressed as a monkey
[00:16:44] where he basically gets his ass kicked
[00:16:47] for money
[00:16:48] all in the hopes of climbing society
[00:16:50] so that he can take revenge
[00:16:52] Punishing himself
[00:16:53] Yeah, just...
[00:16:54] Yeah, every time
[00:16:56] and if he bleeds he gets a bone...
[00:16:58] a blood bonus
[00:16:59] He's got some deep-seated guilt
[00:17:01] Oh, well, just wait
[00:17:04] Not in the ring
[00:17:06] But he's terrible at revenge
[00:17:08] and soon realizes that he now
[00:17:11] is the most wanted man in his region
[00:17:14] because he picked a fight with the wrong
[00:17:16] evil police chief
[00:17:18] Mmm
[00:17:19] So they of course almost kill him
[00:17:22] and he gets saved by another religious faction
[00:17:26] of deity worshipping trans folks
[00:17:30] who through the power of Indian root
[00:17:33] similar to Hiawaska
[00:17:35] cleanse his soul
[00:17:37] Now, just a bit of an intermission here
[00:17:40] Now at this point in the film
[00:17:42] I think that these peaceful trans peeps
[00:17:46] are going to help him to mend his tattered aura
[00:17:50] and find peace within himself
[00:17:53] But no, Murray, that is not what happens
[00:17:56] They show him how to harness his revenge
[00:17:58] and do some awesome drum training
[00:18:01] which carries also with it
[00:18:04] many memory flashback montages of his mom
[00:18:07] Plus...
[00:18:08] Yeah, a lot of flashbacks
[00:18:10] An Indian drummer I could listen to
[00:18:13] forever
[00:18:15] playing these amazing drum beats
[00:18:17] so infectious
[00:18:19] you still wish you could die
[00:18:21] of an overdose of them
[00:18:23] That's what I felt
[00:18:24] If I was going to die
[00:18:26] I want to die by this Indian drummer's drum beat
[00:18:28] That's what I wanted
[00:18:29] Alright
[00:18:31] I'm just saying
[00:18:33] With his newfound monkey power
[00:18:37] and insight into drum fighting
[00:18:39] with the help of his new family
[00:18:41] of trans people
[00:18:43] He fucks up everyone everywhere
[00:18:47] all at once
[00:18:48] And we get an ending completely satisfying
[00:18:51] with multiple boss levels
[00:18:53] of ass kicking and dick punching
[00:18:56] The first half of this film is an adrenaline fueled
[00:18:59] manic editing and shooting fest
[00:19:02] for the senses that dev does
[00:19:05] interesting and brilliant shooting styles
[00:19:07] to get this level of anxiety written action scenes
[00:19:10] so to all of our senses
[00:19:14] Then we get zen like moments
[00:19:16] as he heals himself
[00:19:18] And then
[00:19:19] we get the end with manic
[00:19:22] super trans super friends
[00:19:24] with ass kicking action
[00:19:26] to a perfect ending and a completely satisfying
[00:19:29] action revenge human rights
[00:19:31] wielding mondo of a first direction
[00:19:34] by one of the most
[00:19:36] and my most favorite actor, writer, producers
[00:19:39] and now favorite directors, dev patel
[00:19:41] I absolutely loved every single moment of this film
[00:19:43] It is completely wacky and wackadoo
[00:19:46] If the last movie we talked about was wackadoo
[00:19:49] this was like action wackadoo
[00:19:51] This fucked up my whole senses
[00:19:53] This movie, this movie
[00:19:56] No you would have probably liked it
[00:19:58] No you would have liked this movie Murray
[00:20:00] Cause you can't not love dev patel
[00:20:02] getting his ass kicked
[00:20:03] and then turning around and doing some service of himself
[00:20:08] Alright so
[00:20:10] Ma, is this a high ma for you too?
[00:20:13] You'll have to wait and see there Jim
[00:20:15] Oh my god you in here
[00:20:16] Monkey Man is the feature length directorial
[00:20:19] debut for dev patel
[00:20:21] who also stars and wrote this
[00:20:24] Yeah that's what I said
[00:20:25] It is a typical first film
[00:20:27] in that the director has a lot of ideas
[00:20:30] and puts them all in their debut effort
[00:20:32] Wait you did that in the last film
[00:20:34] Sometimes that works
[00:20:35] and sometimes it misfires
[00:20:37] Did you even do any effort is this the same review?
[00:20:40] What? He's now just reading the same review
[00:20:43] In this case
[00:20:44] He's the name of the movie
[00:20:45] Okay it didn't work
[00:20:46] It works
[00:20:47] Well so he said on the last one
[00:20:49] Yeah
[00:20:50] So let's see if we come to the same conclusion
[00:20:52] Oh my god
[00:20:53] Patel takes on India's well documented discrimination
[00:20:56] and corruption in an action film
[00:20:58] that is political, religious, mythological
[00:21:00] and a champion for equal rights
[00:21:02] The film is inclusive and portrays
[00:21:04] strength in often marginalized groups in society
[00:21:07] It is bloody and violent
[00:21:09] as people are dismembered and stabbed
[00:21:11] Dev Patel is excellent
[00:21:13] as a man that had everything taken away from him
[00:21:15] and now must get revenge
[00:21:17] The action sequences
[00:21:19] The action sequences
[00:21:21] are well choreographed
[00:21:23] without seeming too choreographed
[00:21:26] That's true
[00:21:27] They seem kind of real
[00:21:28] Yeah
[00:21:29] There is a grittiness to the action
[00:21:31] that helps it feel more genuine
[00:21:33] than the slickness of many Hollywood productions these days
[00:21:36] This was a tremendous debut for Patel as a director
[00:21:38] although it was a little over stuffed
[00:21:41] Ugh, here we go
[00:21:42] with a reliance on too many flashbacks
[00:21:45] that sometimes interrupted the momentum of the film
[00:21:48] I really really really liked Monkey Man
[00:21:51] It was mad
[00:21:53] You are a complete fucking idiot
[00:21:56] It was very good
[00:21:58] It was so good
[00:21:59] Very good
[00:22:00] This movie is so good
[00:22:01] As I said, there's too much in it
[00:22:03] There's too much action
[00:22:04] I knew he wouldn't love it
[00:22:05] I was fine
[00:22:06] The action was great
[00:22:07] I really really enjoyed it
[00:22:09] You know what?
[00:22:10] Flashback Montages
[00:22:12] normally bothered me
[00:22:13] but this one didn't bother me at all
[00:22:15] Yeah, I thought that they were a lot of them
[00:22:17] I could use a bit more
[00:22:18] No, there was too much of them
[00:22:20] and it bogged down the flow of the movie
[00:22:22] No, it didn't
[00:22:23] Because we had to take a breath
[00:22:26] The first half of the movie
[00:22:28] Oh, there was plenty of time
[00:22:29] There was a lot of development in this
[00:22:31] where the whole stuff
[00:22:33] This movie slows down
[00:22:36] quite a bit in between action sequences
[00:22:38] You didn't need all these flashback montages
[00:22:40] to take a breath
[00:22:42] It's the Indian way
[00:22:44] You gotta get inside
[00:22:46] The only thing that was missing
[00:22:47] I was disappointed because I waited till the end
[00:22:49] and there wasn't a Bollywood dance
[00:22:51] Well, this was a Bollywood movie
[00:22:53] without the dancing
[00:22:54] I know, which made it not a Bollywood movie
[00:22:56] There was even music in it
[00:22:57] Then it's not a Bollywood movie
[00:22:59] It's just an Indian movie
[00:23:00] Well, it's actually a British Indian movie
[00:23:02] because I think Deb Patel is actually British
[00:23:04] I've never seen a Bollywood movie
[00:23:05] there isn't dancing
[00:23:06] I know, I was a little sad
[00:23:07] I was hoping that we'd got a monkey dance
[00:23:09] or something
[00:23:10] What?
[00:23:11] There's no monkey dance
[00:23:13] Dance is no monkey dance
[00:23:15] Well, we got a drum
[00:23:16] and that was cool
[00:23:17] And there was dancing during the drumming
[00:23:19] There was some dancing
[00:23:20] You know what?
[00:23:21] Everybody should see this movie
[00:23:23] It's very good
[00:23:24] It's Mondo
[00:23:25] It's Super Mondo, actually
[00:23:27] It is a quite an enjoyable map
[00:23:29] Alright, well this one
[00:23:31] is probably also going to make my top 10
[00:23:33] I'm looking forward to both these directors
[00:23:35] making, you know, first movie problem
[00:23:37] How can you land Tildes Winton
[00:23:39] in your first directorial debut?
[00:23:41] Apparently if it's good enough for Tildes Winton
[00:23:43] it should be good enough for you
[00:23:45] And it was
[00:23:46] I really, really, really liked it
[00:23:48] You're wrong
[00:23:50] I shouldn't have liked it?
[00:23:52] No, you're right
[00:23:53] Right that you liked it
[00:23:55] but you're wrong that it wasn't Mondo
[00:23:57] I should have liked it more
[00:23:59] Yeah, that
[00:24:01] plus more
[00:24:02] He was one really short
[00:24:04] of being a Mondo for that one
[00:24:06] Yeah, yeah, one more really?
[00:24:07] One more really would have made it a Mondo
[00:24:09] I guess one less
[00:24:11] memory flashback montage
[00:24:14] There was a lot of them
[00:24:16] It wasn't enough
[00:24:17] I never want more memory flashback montages
[00:24:20] but I wanted more in this
[00:24:22] I'm gonna stop the moment
[00:24:24] Maybe I should only give it a man too
[00:24:26] because it didn't have enough memory flashback
[00:24:28] Do you want to change your rating?
[00:24:30] No, because this movie is perfect
[00:24:32] It was very good
[00:24:33] It was so good
[00:24:34] I loved every minute of it
[00:24:36] Alright, well why don't we talk about the first Omen
[00:24:38] Let's talk about the first Omen in the room
[00:24:41] Okay, so the first Omen
[00:24:43] is the feature length directorial debut
[00:24:46] for Arcashia Stevenson
[00:24:48] Again?
[00:24:49] Who also wrote this
[00:24:51] She was not Star
[00:24:53] So the first movie that we're talking about
[00:24:55] Apparently she's a slacker
[00:24:57] Yeah, she's a slacker
[00:24:58] Total slacker
[00:24:59] The other two wrote, directed and starred in it
[00:25:03] But Slacker Arcashia
[00:25:05] She only wrote and directed
[00:25:08] So anyways
[00:25:09] Unlike the first two films I reviewed today
[00:25:11] I fail to see the inspiration
[00:25:14] What?
[00:25:16] This takes this
[00:25:18] religious horror tale
[00:25:20] fails to separate itself
[00:25:22] from this completely tired genre
[00:25:24] I'm done
[00:25:26] Was this well made?
[00:25:28] Yes
[00:25:29] Was the acting good?
[00:25:30] Yes
[00:25:31] Were the effects good?
[00:25:33] Yes
[00:25:34] Was I bored as this needlessly
[00:25:36] two hour marathon of a movie played out?
[00:25:38] Yes
[00:25:40] This story of a nun who was bred to carry
[00:25:42] the son of Satan
[00:25:44] was tedious and yawn-inducing
[00:25:46] And the ending that is supposed to
[00:25:48] neatly lead us into the original Omen
[00:25:50] was not effective at all and seemed tacked on
[00:25:52] Spoiler
[00:25:53] I don't care
[00:25:54] It was as if I just sat through a two hour movie
[00:25:57] for one moment that the filmmaker was hoping
[00:26:00] would have me leaving the theater satisfied
[00:26:02] Sadly, that was not the case
[00:26:04] The first Omen fails to deliver
[00:26:06] anything near the original film
[00:26:08] that was packed with memorable scenes and moments
[00:26:10] With the first Omen
[00:26:12] I will be lucky to remember that I even
[00:26:14] saw it in a few years
[00:26:16] It will be jumbled in my memory
[00:26:18] with the endless religious horror films
[00:26:20] that are now crowding my brain
[00:26:22] Yup
[00:26:23] I didn't hate this
[00:26:25] but it still left me wondering
[00:26:27] what the point was
[00:26:28] And that makes me rage
[00:26:30] I'm sick of them
[00:26:31] I don't want anymore
[00:26:32] But it didn't
[00:26:34] You didn't hate it
[00:26:36] I didn't hate it
[00:26:38] until I think about
[00:26:40] Why they make it
[00:26:42] and that made me hate it
[00:26:45] It's a rage!
[00:26:46] Race's writing system is just on fire today
[00:26:49] It's the best
[00:26:51] It's literally not a terrible movie
[00:26:53] but because they made it, it's a rage
[00:26:55] You're here brother
[00:26:57] Okay, there you go
[00:26:59] You know what? I'm on side with
[00:27:01] with you raging about the fact that
[00:27:03] they made this
[00:27:04] I'm 100% on for that
[00:27:06] The stupid thing is
[00:27:08] it like
[00:27:10] There's no reason why they couldn't
[00:27:12] tighten this down to 90 minutes
[00:27:14] Uh, 77
[00:27:15] 77 even
[00:27:16] And if they did
[00:27:17] it might have been a mess
[00:27:19] because it was well made
[00:27:20] and there was some good stuff in it
[00:27:22] It was just so bloody long
[00:27:24] and bloody boring
[00:27:25] Because
[00:27:26] every scene that should have been
[00:27:28] a third of the length
[00:27:30] was three times longer than it should have been
[00:27:32] which made the movie three times
[00:27:34] longer than it should have been
[00:27:36] Well maybe not three
[00:27:37] but maybe
[00:27:38] a third more
[00:27:40] than a two-thirds of the length
[00:27:42] It's something like that
[00:27:44] The math is not really perfectly equated
[00:27:46] in here
[00:27:47] But I get your point for sure
[00:27:50] So
[00:27:51] if you like creepy
[00:27:53] Put your saris in a sack
[00:27:54] Yeah exactly
[00:27:55] If you like creepy whispering
[00:27:59] Murray, if you like creepy whispering
[00:28:01] and jump scares
[00:28:03] and many shots of the mother
[00:28:05] of Satan lying on her back
[00:28:07] with her hair spread out like Medusa
[00:28:09] with convenient story arches
[00:28:11] and predictable plots
[00:28:13] with loud spooky orchestral music
[00:28:15] and random weird scary things
[00:28:17] happening but also editing
[00:28:19] that makes no sense
[00:28:21] then the first Omen is for you
[00:28:25] Yeah, it's
[00:28:26] Is it for you, Murmur?
[00:28:27] I like none of that
[00:28:28] Okay
[00:28:29] Well
[00:28:30] It had
[00:28:31] a good tie into the original Omen
[00:28:33] I didn't like how easy
[00:28:35] at the end it was
[00:28:37] a priest dude to just find her
[00:28:39] I was like
[00:28:41] I just showed up
[00:28:42] Like there's a lot of this
[00:28:44] and
[00:28:46] if he was that easy for him to find them
[00:28:49] then the evil coven
[00:28:51] should easily have been able to find her
[00:28:53] because there's more of them
[00:28:54] There's like
[00:28:55] I don't know, 50 or 60 of these evil coven
[00:28:57] There's a lot
[00:28:58] And there was just him
[00:28:59] and he found her no problem
[00:29:00] I was confused by some of it
[00:29:02] and not cause
[00:29:03] I'm confused easily
[00:29:04] if you know what I'm saying here
[00:29:06] It was alright, it was a man
[00:29:08] Yeah
[00:29:09] It was alright
[00:29:10] I didn't hate it
[00:29:11] But it was really boring
[00:29:12] and I've never seen
[00:29:14] I'm sorry
[00:29:15] like in the original
[00:29:16] Omen
[00:29:17] and other Omen
[00:29:19] adjacent films
[00:29:21] just because you're implanted with
[00:29:23] with Satan's seed
[00:29:24] doesn't mean your baby grows
[00:29:25] in like 5 minutes
[00:29:27] and if your stomach
[00:29:29] didn't have 9 months
[00:29:31] to get used to stretching
[00:29:33] wouldn't it just rip you open
[00:29:34] when it went that fast?
[00:29:35] Like she was completely not pregnant
[00:29:37] and then she went for a car ride, Marie
[00:29:39] and then she was
[00:29:40] Then all of a sudden she's like
[00:29:41] Oh, then all of a sudden boom
[00:29:42] Then she had twins
[00:29:43] Then she had twins
[00:29:44] Well they had to cut them out
[00:29:45] but there's no possible way
[00:29:47] from science
[00:29:48] and unless you know Satan
[00:29:50] You know what we're missing from this price?
[00:29:52] It's Satanic magic
[00:29:54] We've talked about space magic
[00:29:56] We've talked about other kinds of magic
[00:29:58] Force magic
[00:29:59] But this was Satanic magic
[00:30:01] So if you've got Satanic magic
[00:30:03] it's kind of like the force
[00:30:05] You can just do anything you want
[00:30:07] and if it doesn't work
[00:30:08] it's like you know what
[00:30:09] I guess Satan was off duty that time
[00:30:11] So there's editing scenes in here
[00:30:13] There's a scene
[00:30:15] Are you sure it was a man?
[00:30:17] Yeah, it was a man
[00:30:18] I didn't hate it
[00:30:19] I didn't hate it
[00:30:20] It was boring
[00:30:23] and I kind of didn't mind
[00:30:25] the linkage they made to the original Omen
[00:30:27] I didn't hate it
[00:30:28] It was like, okay
[00:30:29] That makes sense
[00:30:30] But it didn't need to be there
[00:30:32] This movie did not need to exist
[00:30:34] because the Omen is one of my favorite horror movies of all time
[00:30:37] It didn't need to be there
[00:30:38] and it felt tacked on
[00:30:39] because it didn't need to be there
[00:30:41] Well, can I...
[00:30:42] If I was Murray right now
[00:30:44] and I was channeling Murray
[00:30:45] Murray would say
[00:30:46] it's because they're gonna make another
[00:30:47] one or they gotta make more money
[00:30:48] because here they have her
[00:30:49] and I'd get with the sister
[00:30:50] Well no, because this pretty much takes us
[00:30:52] to the first Omen
[00:30:53] No!
[00:30:54] The first first Omen
[00:30:55] Price, no it doesn't
[00:30:56] It does
[00:30:57] No, because there's a whole other story arch here
[00:30:58] that we didn't know about
[00:30:59] Like did you know Damien had a sister?
[00:31:02] No
[00:31:03] Well now you do
[00:31:04] and so we're gonna go find out about this
[00:31:05] So you think that's gonna
[00:31:06] Yes, of course it's gonna be the thing
[00:31:08] They're gonna have the coven chasing her
[00:31:10] Ah, no
[00:31:11] Yes, I don't want that
[00:31:13] It's going to happen
[00:31:14] I don't want that
[00:31:15] Yeah, well you know who's gonna
[00:31:17] If we get a scooter riding
[00:31:18] Russell Crowe in it
[00:31:20] then it could change that to a math
[00:31:22] That's true
[00:31:23] So you should not say that
[00:31:24] That's all, by the way
[00:31:25] for all you directors out there
[00:31:27] if you wanna get a math
[00:31:28] just cut away to a scene where
[00:31:30] Russell Crowe's driving a scooter
[00:31:32] and I will met a bleepily blank out of your movie
[00:31:35] because that
[00:31:36] That alone
[00:31:37] That makes me maybe happier
[00:31:39] than anything on the planet
[00:31:41] It is just so enjoyable to watch
[00:31:44] Pure bliss
[00:31:45] To watch Russell's scooter
[00:31:46] on a tiny little scooter
[00:31:48] That's why he's my most favorite
[00:31:49] Well, there you go
[00:31:50] Murray, that's why you need to go watch
[00:31:51] The Pope's Exorcist
[00:31:53] Of all the Satanic movies
[00:31:54] The Pope's Exorcist
[00:31:55] has the most Russell Crowe
[00:31:57] riding scooters
[00:31:58] Yes
[00:31:59] Which is gold Murray
[00:32:01] Gold
[00:32:02] With Catholic religious movies
[00:32:04] You know
[00:32:06] I can't wait till I can actually
[00:32:07] re-watch that immaculate one
[00:32:09] So I can see if it is actually a Mondo
[00:32:11] It's bonkers man
[00:32:13] It's like the only Mondo I've given to
[00:32:15] One of these
[00:32:16] Something that bonkers?
[00:32:17] No, no
[00:32:18] To any of these
[00:32:20] Like since The Exorcist
[00:32:21] I don't know that I've given
[00:32:22] any other Mondo
[00:32:23] with any of these religious horror movies
[00:32:25] Yeah, this one wasn't a demonic
[00:32:26] horror movie though so
[00:32:28] That Jesus Juice
[00:32:30] Jesus Juice solves all problems
[00:32:32] It was some pretty evil people in it
[00:32:34] Were they evil?
[00:32:36] They're trying to bring back
[00:32:38] Jesus, it doesn't sound terrible
[00:32:40] If you're a Christian that's kind of like
[00:32:42] they're waiting for the second coming
[00:32:44] She wasn't a willing participant there Jim
[00:32:46] That's pretty evil
[00:32:48] I'm sorry, you can't just go sticking
[00:32:50] babies in people
[00:32:52] Did you follow the history
[00:32:54] of the Catholic faith?
[00:32:55] Not to find a point on it but that's exactly
[00:32:56] what happened in the original
[00:32:58] I believe it's called
[00:33:00] Immaculate Conception
[00:33:02] Somebody put a baby
[00:33:04] into somebody there
[00:33:06] Evil!
[00:33:08] I don't think God asked
[00:33:10] By the way, do you mind if I stick a baby in there?
[00:33:12] I know, maybe he should have
[00:33:14] Maybe he should have
[00:33:16] Just saying
[00:33:18] No means no, even if you're God
[00:33:20] Not to piss off all the religious right
[00:33:22] But yeah, to your point
[00:33:24] I honestly do not listen to our podcast
[00:33:26] It works both ways
[00:33:28] If Satan can do it, then God can do it
[00:33:30] I can 100% guarantee
[00:33:32] Neither of them can do it
[00:33:34] The important thing is I can 100% guarantee
[00:33:36] that there's not an alt-right Christian believer
[00:33:38] that listens to our podcast
[00:33:40] or we'd get a lot more hate mail
[00:33:42] and we only get a little bit of hate mail now
[00:33:44] Just a little tiny bit
[00:33:46] Alright, well, our last movie
[00:33:48] Ever?
[00:33:50] Of this week
[00:33:52] For you
[00:33:54] Or maybe not, we'll find out
[00:33:56] Is Dog Man
[00:33:58] Dog Man?
[00:34:00] That is by the way
[00:34:02] an excellent album by King's X
[00:34:04] Yeah, 100%
[00:34:06] We should be playing that
[00:34:08] instead of that
[00:34:10] we're going to talk about the movie Dog Man
[00:34:12] Well, in the same week
[00:34:14] we got to see Dog Man
[00:34:16] and also Monkey Man
[00:34:18] Both are about
[00:34:20] Dog Man dealing with their traumatic past
[00:34:22] Both
[00:34:24] have trans folks
[00:34:26] that are awesome
[00:34:28] and both start actors
[00:34:30] that are freaking amazing
[00:34:32] in the lead role
[00:34:34] So apparently
[00:34:36] anything that has
[00:34:38] the word
[00:34:40] man in the title
[00:34:42] will have amazing actors in it
[00:34:44] This is the thing, just go through
[00:34:46] every movie that has the name Man
[00:34:48] and it's probably true
[00:34:50] Superman
[00:34:52] Chris Farives, Murray's favorite movie
[00:34:54] and his favorite superhero
[00:34:56] Well, maybe not Superman 4
[00:34:58] but we don't need to go there
[00:35:00] Not if it doesn't have another number on it
[00:35:02] It's just the original man
[00:35:04] Which one was 3?
[00:35:06] Was 3 with Richard Pryor?
[00:35:08] No, that needed not to be made
[00:35:10] 2 was good
[00:35:12] 4 was the nuclear guy
[00:35:14] So 3 and 4 didn't need to cut
[00:35:16] The point of making is
[00:35:18] just the man part
[00:35:20] Not a 1 or 2 afterwards, just the man
[00:35:22] Ok then
[00:35:24] Go ahead
[00:35:26] So that's where pretty much
[00:35:28] where things are now no longer
[00:35:30] similar though between Monkey Man
[00:35:32] and Dog Man
[00:35:34] Plus, yes
[00:35:36] Exactly, that's what I'm saying
[00:35:38] Go through your mind, figure out all the ones
[00:35:40] that have the man in the title
[00:35:42] With this one
[00:35:44] You need to suspend a bit of belief
[00:35:46] A little bit
[00:35:48] To be ok with the whole story
[00:35:50] I feel
[00:35:52] If you believe that a man
[00:35:54] It's a little bit of belief
[00:35:56] If you believe that a man
[00:35:58] can be so close to dogs
[00:36:00] that he can actually communicate with them
[00:36:02] Then
[00:36:04] you will be in for the ride of your life
[00:36:06] potentially
[00:36:08] Caleb Landry Jones is brilliant
[00:36:10] in this and I mean
[00:36:12] Absolutely brilliant
[00:36:14] I was so captivated by him
[00:36:16] in every single scene he is in
[00:36:18] I could not stray
[00:36:20] my eyes off of him
[00:36:22] Even though there is a lot of scenes
[00:36:24] with cute puppies
[00:36:26] Which I could have been looking at
[00:36:28] But I could not take my eyes off of
[00:36:30] What did you call them? CLB?
[00:36:32] CLJ?
[00:36:34] CLJ baby
[00:36:36] There you go, this film shows
[00:36:38] the worst of an abusive childhood
[00:36:40] The boy finds his only solace
[00:36:42] is
[00:36:44] his friends who
[00:36:46] ultimately become his family
[00:36:48] who are his dogs
[00:36:50] He survives by using all his skills
[00:36:52] like acting
[00:36:54] dressing and performing in drag
[00:36:56] using his dogs to distribute wealth
[00:36:58] and oh yeah
[00:37:00] becoming the dog father
[00:37:02] by using his dog family
[00:37:04] as protection services
[00:37:06] which ultimately take him to prison
[00:37:08] and we get to meet our other lead
[00:37:10] in this who is played by
[00:37:12] Jojo T. Gibbs
[00:37:14] who last we saw
[00:37:16] in the movie past lives from this last year
[00:37:18] The acting by everyone in this
[00:37:20] is absolutely stellar
[00:37:22] the story takes you places you don't expect
[00:37:24] but then also takes you places you kind of do expect
[00:37:26] But you still don't mind
[00:37:28] because there is a lot of dogs in this
[00:37:30] and they are so fun
[00:37:32] and they are so stellar
[00:37:34] Dog man is weird and wonderful
[00:37:36] and I thought there was some moments
[00:37:38] that maybe could have been done a little
[00:37:40] differently but I didn't care
[00:37:42] because the film is worth going to
[00:37:44] if nothing else
[00:37:46] to see Caleb Landry Jones or CLJ
[00:37:48] I loved
[00:37:50] not just because of him
[00:37:52] because there was also a lot of cute
[00:37:54] dogs did I mention these dogs were cute
[00:37:56] they were adorable
[00:37:58] and that this dog man
[00:38:00] is a freaking mondo and we've got some unpacking
[00:38:02] to do
[00:38:04] this is one of those ones
[00:38:06] that as far as the story
[00:38:08] was concerned and I don't normally
[00:38:10] rate things like this because I'm not
[00:38:12] Bryce but Caleb Landry Jones
[00:38:14] in this is so beyond
[00:38:16] brilliant to see his performance
[00:38:18] in this that alone makes this
[00:38:20] movie a mondo but then add the dogs
[00:38:22] in there and it just pushes it over the level
[00:38:24] of mondo and I got some unpacking below
[00:38:26] what did you think of dog man
[00:38:28] so dog man
[00:38:30] is not the feature
[00:38:32] length directorial debut
[00:38:34] for Luke Besson
[00:38:36] who also wrote this
[00:38:38] yes
[00:38:40] however this is
[00:38:42] much like someone making his
[00:38:44] first film as every crazy
[00:38:46] idea in Besson's head
[00:38:48] ended up on the screen
[00:38:50] just supremacist exhausting
[00:38:52] Caleb Landry Jones plays Douglas
[00:38:54] who is obsessed with Shakespeare very
[00:38:56] religious is a drag queen in a wheelchair
[00:38:58] who is sort of a dog whisperer
[00:39:00] who along with his canine friends takes
[00:39:02] on and picks fights with local gangs
[00:39:04] all while using his dogs
[00:39:06] to perform heists to rob the rich of their
[00:39:08] frivolous trinkets yes there is
[00:39:10] not one frame in this film that is believable
[00:39:12] on any level
[00:39:14] and yet the performance
[00:39:16] of Caleb Landry Jones along with
[00:39:18] a very well trained dogs make this
[00:39:20] complete train wreck of a movie not
[00:39:22] only watchable but
[00:39:24] pretty much mesmerizing I wanted
[00:39:26] to hate this because there
[00:39:28] is so very much wrong with it
[00:39:32] not a lot of this makes
[00:39:34] much sense especially when
[00:39:36] the dogs are involved not sure how they
[00:39:38] end up on the roof of a house
[00:39:40] or how they're able to break climb
[00:39:42] or how they're able to break Douglas out of
[00:39:44] jail or countless other things
[00:39:46] and there are always convenient
[00:39:48] occurrences as doors open at just
[00:39:50] the right time and there just happens
[00:39:52] to be a spot where the dog can get out of the
[00:39:54] yard but once again
[00:39:56] Caleb Landry Jones is absolutely
[00:39:58] amazing in this and it's completely
[00:40:00] dumb and I mean
[00:40:02] dumb as the script was
[00:40:04] I cannot say that at any
[00:40:06] moment I was anything
[00:40:08] but entertained
[00:40:10] as I say I should have been annoyed by
[00:40:12] every ridiculous second of this
[00:40:14] but I wasn't in fact
[00:40:16] quite the opposite the more
[00:40:18] ridiculous this got the more entertaining
[00:40:20] it got it was bonkers
[00:40:22] and what it was really really
[00:40:24] ridiculous which means it was really
[00:40:26] really entertaining
[00:40:28] dogman had way too much
[00:40:30] wrong with it to be Mondo but it was
[00:40:32] way too entertaining to be a rage
[00:40:34] so I guess it was meh
[00:40:36] screw it I know this was not a great movie
[00:40:38] but for me I could not have been any
[00:40:40] more entertained so I say dogman
[00:40:42] dogman on the back of Mr.
[00:40:44] Jones was Mondo
[00:40:46] see did I predict that or what Murray
[00:40:48] did I I literally
[00:40:50] predicted that coming out
[00:40:52] and I did not know this as a fact
[00:40:54] this was the
[00:40:56] dumbest script that's ever been written
[00:40:58] ever it was so good
[00:41:00] yeah Caleb Landry Jones
[00:41:02] and the dogs make it so
[00:41:04] wonderfully just
[00:41:06] wonderful that
[00:41:08] you just you can't help but love
[00:41:10] this movie even though there's
[00:41:12] there's so many reasons to
[00:41:14] hate it but it doesn't matter
[00:41:16] because he's so good
[00:41:18] and they're so good and it's
[00:41:20] just so enjoyable
[00:41:22] there's one scene in particular
[00:41:24] where
[00:41:26] I can't remember where it was in the movie
[00:41:28] but it's got a lot of close
[00:41:30] up on him and
[00:41:32] he is
[00:41:34] so beyond acting his
[00:41:36] fucking ass off in this
[00:41:38] movie but there's one scene
[00:41:40] in particular that I just left me I was like
[00:41:42] I was almost bawling my eyes out but not because
[00:41:44] it was a sad part in the movie I was like
[00:41:46] I've never been moved by a performance
[00:41:48] in my life there's not been a performance
[00:41:50] by anyone ever in the
[00:41:52] history of film that is better than
[00:41:54] Caleb Landry Jones in this movie
[00:41:56] I'm gonna state that I will
[00:41:58] put that on my gravestone
[00:42:00] Caleb Landry Jones in Dog Man
[00:42:02] the movie that shouldn't get a Mondo
[00:42:04] is this I want you guys to write this down
[00:42:06] so that when I die this goes on my
[00:42:08] tombstone that Dog Man
[00:42:10] by Lucas who's also one of my
[00:42:12] favorite directors because he's
[00:42:14] whack-a-doo he's okay
[00:42:16] he's got French whack-a-doo is a mom
[00:42:18] yeah nothing made sense man
[00:42:20] nothing made sense but like
[00:42:22] and it didn't matter
[00:42:24] he was so
[00:42:26] as Murray says what do you call him? Creepy?
[00:42:28] Creepy as hell yeah he's one of the creepiest
[00:42:30] guys in all of you
[00:42:32] he's so naturally creepy in this but it's
[00:42:34] to a whole other level like we've seen him
[00:42:36] in Nitram was it Nitram?
[00:42:38] Nitram oh Nitram is unbelievable
[00:42:40] he was good in that but this is
[00:42:42] this is like
[00:42:44] he just had this look in his eyes sometimes
[00:42:46] he's like you are gonna murder
[00:42:48] some people right now and then he does
[00:42:50] from the very first time I saw him I thought
[00:42:52] wow this is this this this kid's gonna
[00:42:54] be a great actor and do you remember where the
[00:42:56] first time you saw him was?
[00:42:58] it was an X-Men movie
[00:43:00] yeah I think I think that
[00:43:02] might have been and he was in the Tom Cruise movie
[00:43:04] which Tom Cruise movie?
[00:43:06] the one about the flying about the running
[00:43:08] drugs and stuff
[00:43:10] the pilot one
[00:43:12] was the creepy brother
[00:43:14] what he played creepy?
[00:43:16] no not Caleb Landry Jones
[00:43:18] that's all he played
[00:43:20] that's not all he plays
[00:43:22] it's not air America it's the one where Tom Cruise is like a pilot
[00:43:24] and he's flying
[00:43:26] he's flying drugs
[00:43:28] isn't it just American made?
[00:43:30] yeah that's it American made
[00:43:32] yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I know he shows up as a creepy brother
[00:43:34] you know he's in no country for old men
[00:43:36] I did know that
[00:43:38] and he's very good in that
[00:43:40] uh... I'm trying to see
[00:43:42] he's in the social network
[00:43:44] X-Men first class
[00:43:46] X-Men first class and I think that's the first
[00:43:48] and I remember thinking
[00:43:50] who is this guy? why is he out acting everybody
[00:43:52] in this movie? yeah and he's just
[00:43:54] and he's just gotten better and better and better
[00:43:56] oh! an antiviral
[00:43:58] oh my god he's so good
[00:44:00] amazing
[00:44:02] baby Cronenberg
[00:44:04] Cronenberg new
[00:44:06] baby Cronenberg
[00:44:08] and baby baby Cronenberg
[00:44:10] we're going to see their first movie this year
[00:44:12] now it's like a sister Cronenberg
[00:44:14] yeah she's not sister Cronenberg
[00:44:16] Murray she's baby baby
[00:44:18] is that the sister of the baby Cronenberg?
[00:44:20] yep
[00:44:22] she's sister of baby Cronenberg but she's still baby baby
[00:44:24] Cronenberg
[00:44:26] there should be a song about that
[00:44:28] you know we should have a song about baby baby
[00:44:30] anyway long story short cable Andrew Jones is awesome
[00:44:32] yeah and this movie was also awesome
[00:44:34] because it was wackadoo and it was Luc Besant
[00:44:36] maybe
[00:44:38] maybe the dogs alone were cute
[00:44:40] you might have liked it because you like
[00:44:42] you like cute dogs Murray
[00:44:44] you love cute dogs
[00:44:46] alright are you done?
[00:44:48] yeah that's enough for now
[00:44:52] oh baby
[00:44:54] alright
[00:44:56] I thought I'd give you something fun this week
[00:44:58] we do like fun
[00:45:00] I like fun
[00:45:02] and puppies
[00:45:04] I don't know what your deal is
[00:45:06] I found this article
[00:45:08] and thought it was funny so I thought
[00:45:10] I'd share it with you
[00:45:12] um
[00:45:14] I assume you guys have heard
[00:45:16] of Alan Smithy
[00:45:18] which if you haven't
[00:45:20] is basically when somebody does something
[00:45:22] and they it's so bad
[00:45:24] they don't want to take credit for it
[00:45:26] they use the name Alan Smithy instead
[00:45:28] because they don't want it on their IMDB page
[00:45:30] well these are movies
[00:45:32] but we're so bad that
[00:45:34] the directors actually disowned them
[00:45:36] and refused to take credit for them
[00:45:38] we'll see which
[00:45:40] how many of them I look at
[00:45:42] I'm going to predict that out of the
[00:45:44] how many are on the list
[00:45:46] I say that I liked three of them
[00:45:48] let's see
[00:45:50] no picture order
[00:45:52] we got Hellraiser Bloodline
[00:45:54] oh it's awful
[00:45:56] which was the fourth installment in the series
[00:45:58] we directed by two different directors
[00:46:00] yeah that's always a good idea
[00:46:02] first one was so bad that Miramax ordered reshoots
[00:46:04] which he didn't come back for
[00:46:06] after the art department and camera crew
[00:46:08] were fired in the first week
[00:46:10] the new director spent
[00:46:12] two months reshooting
[00:46:14] and editing completely changed what their
[00:46:16] original director had planned
[00:46:18] neither director wanted credit for this garbage
[00:46:20] and neither one was ever heard from again
[00:46:22] lucky them
[00:46:24] they decided this was such a terrible film
[00:46:26] I got to get out of the business
[00:46:28] yeah pretty much
[00:46:30] I felt bad for the road that
[00:46:32] Hellraiser series went down
[00:46:34] oh yeah it could have been so
[00:46:36] then we have Babylon AD
[00:46:38] oh yeah
[00:46:40] this movie starred Vin Diesel
[00:46:42] when Sashel Yo
[00:46:44] sure did
[00:46:46] when Yo won the Golden Globe for everything everywhere all at once
[00:46:48] Diesel actually posted a picture
[00:46:50] of the two of them together
[00:46:52] on the set of this film
[00:46:54] even though it was probably the worst film of her career
[00:46:56] it was a box office disaster
[00:46:58] destroyed by critics and audiences
[00:47:00] yet they actually teased a sequel at the end of it
[00:47:02] the director was very unhappy with the finished product
[00:47:04] and refused to take credit for it
[00:47:06] nice
[00:47:08] next up
[00:47:10] Fantastic Four
[00:47:12] from 2015
[00:47:14] oh yeah that's a bad one too
[00:47:16] this movie was so bad
[00:47:18] that director Josh Trang
[00:47:20] trashed his reboot
[00:47:22] by telling the world there was a great version of the movie that existed
[00:47:24] just wasn't the one that was about to be released
[00:47:26] wow
[00:47:28] day before the movie was released
[00:47:30] in multiplexes around the world
[00:47:32] he basically called it shit
[00:47:34] he said a year ago
[00:47:36] I had a fantastic version of this
[00:47:38] and I would have received great reviews
[00:47:40] you'll probably never see it
[00:47:42] that's reality though
[00:47:44] 20th Century Fox actually claimed
[00:47:46] it supported the
[00:47:48] film maker's original vision
[00:47:50] yet Trang refused
[00:47:52] to acknowledge Fantastic Four as part of his filmography
[00:47:54] there you go
[00:47:56] that was terrible
[00:47:58] then we have
[00:48:00] he didn't like it
[00:48:02] Hellboy in 2019
[00:48:04] I liked it
[00:48:06] after the first two films
[00:48:08] Guillermo del Toro
[00:48:10] and Ron Perlman
[00:48:12] spent a decade repeatedly stating they wanted to do a third one
[00:48:14] yes
[00:48:16] but they were completely ignored
[00:48:18] in favor of a disastrous reboot
[00:48:20] I liked it
[00:48:22] the director of the new film called it
[00:48:24] not a film that I would consider to be part of my canon
[00:48:26] David Harbour's terrible
[00:48:28] called it the worst professional experience
[00:48:30] of his life
[00:48:32] he summed it up with the phrase
[00:48:34] you can't polish a turd
[00:48:36] no matter how much you try
[00:48:38] that's right Bryce
[00:48:40] that was fine
[00:48:42] you're fine
[00:48:44] I am thank you
[00:48:46] we have Supernova
[00:48:48] 2000
[00:48:50] Dustin Hoffman
[00:48:52] Walter Hill
[00:48:54] who directed The Warriors
[00:48:56] I love Walter Hill
[00:48:58] practically invented the buddy cop genre with 48 hours
[00:49:00] oh wait it wasn't Supernova
[00:49:02] and he worked on the story for aliens
[00:49:04] seemed like a good candidate to be a science action
[00:49:06] sci-fi action film that was described as
[00:49:08] Hellraiser in Space
[00:49:10] the movie starred James Spader
[00:49:12] and Angela Bassett
[00:49:14] so it should have been good
[00:49:16] yeah yeah I remember
[00:49:18] Hill said the budget was cut halfway
[00:49:20] through the shooting
[00:49:22] spent months trying to cut together a decent edit
[00:49:24] yeah that's nice
[00:49:26] and finally decided enough was enough
[00:49:28] and he quit
[00:49:30] they brought on another director for reshoots
[00:49:32] and even Francis Ford Coppola
[00:49:34] was enlisted to try to make it salvageable
[00:49:36] that didn't happen
[00:49:38] and two years behind schedule
[00:49:40] it sent to cinemas to die a slow
[00:49:42] death
[00:49:44] wow that's uh three directors
[00:49:46] you know you're getting in for a treat
[00:49:48] yeah exactly
[00:49:50] then we have Accidental
[00:49:52] Love
[00:49:54] already the name is making me hate that
[00:49:56] I don't think I know this one
[00:49:58] once the bottom fell out of the movie
[00:50:00] David O Russell planned on making
[00:50:02] he completely watched
[00:50:04] his hands of the Broadway
[00:50:06] he probably did
[00:50:08] that didn't stop the movie studio at all
[00:50:10] who went ahead and pieced together the film anyway
[00:50:12] it was funny
[00:50:14] there were over a dozen shutdowns
[00:50:16] and multiple
[00:50:18] walkouts from the cast and crew due to financial issues
[00:50:20] this was in the rager dare bag
[00:50:22] like a few months ago
[00:50:24] and Russell stated he was no longer involved
[00:50:26] in the project and could not call it
[00:50:28] his film
[00:50:30] four years later it was released with a fake director
[00:50:32] and writer credit
[00:50:34] like they just put in names of people
[00:50:36] who don't exist
[00:50:38] you would have thought that a movie starring Jessica Beale
[00:50:40] James Marsden and Tracy Morgan
[00:50:42] would be bad
[00:50:44] don't forget Jill and Hall
[00:50:46] Jakey
[00:50:48] don't you remember he just made
[00:50:50] Roadhouse
[00:50:52] I don't because I didn't watch Jim
[00:50:54] you're the only sadist that would put yourself through that
[00:50:56] no no I'm a masochist
[00:50:58] and finally
[00:51:00] participation of
[00:51:02] our upcoming
[00:51:04] what's coming up here
[00:51:06] in the broadcast here
[00:51:08] we have Fear and Desire
[00:51:10] Fear and Desire
[00:51:12] 1953
[00:51:14] this
[00:51:16] is Stanley Kubrick's
[00:51:18] first film
[00:51:20] it mysteriously
[00:51:22] disappeared from circulation in the years
[00:51:24] after its release
[00:51:26] the urban legend is that Kubrick destroyed
[00:51:28] the original negative
[00:51:30] and tracked down as many remaining copies
[00:51:32] as he could find
[00:51:34] despite that
[00:51:36] Fear and Desire has survived
[00:51:38] when it became public
[00:51:40] domain
[00:51:42] and started screening for movie fans
[00:51:44] Kubrick openly trashed the film
[00:51:46] to discourage people from watching it
[00:51:48] which made everybody watch it
[00:51:50] calling the drama a bumbling amateur film
[00:51:52] exercise that wasn't reflective of who he was
[00:51:54] as an author
[00:51:56] and it's rated G
[00:51:58] Stanley Kubrick rated G
[00:52:00] 1953
[00:52:02] if you want real crap check out those movies
[00:52:04] I'm gonna watch Fear and Desire tonight
[00:52:06] some of them are pretty good
[00:52:08] no I'm a
[00:52:10] team Murray here
[00:52:12] yeah well
[00:52:14] I just presented
[00:52:16] I don't know if I agree
[00:52:18] temperature rising
[00:52:22] vision blurring
[00:52:24] rage
[00:52:26] taking over
[00:52:32] music
[00:52:36] music
[00:52:44] alright
[00:52:46] my rage this week is
[00:52:48] that Bryce and I went into the movies
[00:52:50] on Monday
[00:52:52] and so it's now what
[00:52:54] Wednesday
[00:52:56] yeah it's Wednesday
[00:52:58] and Bryce
[00:53:00] the entire first 20 minutes
[00:53:02] that we're sitting in the movie theater
[00:53:04] before the movie starts
[00:53:06] was going on about what his rage was
[00:53:08] and then wouldn't tell me what the fuck it was
[00:53:10] so my rage this week
[00:53:12] is that Bryce is supposedly
[00:53:14] one of my closest friends
[00:53:16] and he couldn't even give me a
[00:53:18] inkling of what he's raging about today
[00:53:20] keeping secrets
[00:53:22] so that's my rage
[00:53:24] Bryce is keeping secrets from me
[00:53:26] he's all mysterious now
[00:53:28] and some kind of trap
[00:53:30] that he's not shared with us Murray
[00:53:32] with us
[00:53:34] that's my rage
[00:53:36] quit keeping secrets
[00:53:38] I had a good time at the movies
[00:53:40] I had 3 Mondos
[00:53:42] 3 Mondos and a man
[00:53:44] 2 Maz a rage and a Mondo
[00:53:46] 3 out of 4 Mondos
[00:53:48] you didn't have a rage
[00:53:50] 2 out of 3 ain't bad
[00:53:52] 3 out of 4 ain't bad
[00:53:54] 3 out of 4 is even better
[00:53:56] ?
[00:53:58] ?
[00:54:00] ?
[00:54:02] ?
[00:54:04] ?
[00:54:06] ?
[00:54:08] ?
[00:54:10] ?
[00:54:12] ?
[00:54:14] ?
[00:54:16] so you gonna have to like really
[00:54:18] listen because it's pretty
[00:54:20] convoluted but
[00:54:22] perfect here we go
[00:54:24] So my CineClub membership through CinePlex is something I pay $9.99 per month for.
[00:54:32] Plus tax.
[00:54:33] For that $9.99 I get one free movie.
[00:54:36] Plus tax.
[00:54:37] Every month, which already pays for the membership.
[00:54:41] Plus I get 20% off concessions, no online purchasing fee and up to two admissions for
[00:54:48] $9.99 per screening.
[00:54:50] Two?
[00:54:51] Up to two admissions for $9.99 per screening.
[00:54:55] That last part is sort of true.
[00:54:59] When I pull up my CineClub membership page it says I only have one admission for $9.99.
[00:55:06] It had said this for a few months.
[00:55:09] And it would not let me purchase two tickets for $9.99.
[00:55:13] I would try to click on the button to purchase two tickets, but it was stuck on one.
[00:55:18] Which I guess makes sense because my membership page says that I only have one.
[00:55:22] But why?
[00:55:23] Right on that same page that says I only have $9.99 ticket it says that with your CineClub
[00:55:32] membership you get up to two tickets for $9.99.
[00:55:37] So I call up CinePlex and I ask them, what gives?
[00:55:41] The gentleman on the other end of the line explained to me that I have up to two
[00:55:46] tickets.
[00:55:49] But if I only purchase one then I only have one left and I have to purchase that one before
[00:55:57] it resets to two?
[00:55:59] I told them that I was pretty sure that was not the case.
[00:56:03] And could he perhaps put me through to someone that is more familiar with the inner workings
[00:56:09] of the CineClub?
[00:56:11] He put me on hold for about three minutes and when he came back he said that he
[00:56:15] had talked to his supervisor.
[00:56:17] Supervisor?
[00:56:18] Yeah, sure he did.
[00:56:22] And assured me that what he had told me had now been confirmed.
[00:56:28] So I said okay so what you're telling me right now is I have only $1.99.99 ticket available
[00:56:38] but when I purchased my next single ticket for $9.99 my account will reset to two tickets
[00:56:45] available for $9.99.
[00:56:47] He said yes, that was the case.
[00:56:50] I said I hope you're right otherwise I will not be very happy.
[00:56:55] In hindsight I should have just bought a ticket while I had them on the line.
[00:56:59] But whatever.
[00:57:01] So the next day I decided to use that single $9.99 ticket that was available to me to
[00:57:07] purchase one admission to Problemista, which we reviewed earlier on the podcast.
[00:57:13] After doing this I went back to my CineClub membership page absolutely more excited than
[00:57:20] I'd ever been about anything in my life to see the tickets available.
[00:57:25] I couldn't wait to see the page so I could see that giant number two where it indicated
[00:57:30] how many $9.99 admissions were available to me.
[00:57:36] There was no number two.
[00:57:38] It was still a giant number one.
[00:57:40] Sounds like it was a number two for you.
[00:57:43] The Cineplex guy had lied to me.
[00:57:47] So I immediately phoned Cineplex again and amazingly enough I got the same guy.
[00:57:55] So I was like dude you told me that if I had purchased a ticket for $9.99 I would
[00:58:00] then get reset to two $9.99 tickets available and I still only have one available.
[00:58:06] What gives buddy?
[00:58:08] So he tells me that he indeed told me the truth.
[00:58:12] However, because I have one free ticket available to me I would have to use that before it
[00:58:22] reset to two available $9.99 tickets available.
[00:58:27] And it was at this point I started laughing as hard as I have ever laughed in quite a while.
[00:58:33] I'm like okay buddy so what you're telling me is that anytime I have unused free tickets
[00:58:41] on my account I will only be able to purchase one ticket for $9.99 until that free ticket
[00:58:48] has been used.
[00:58:51] He said yes.
[00:58:54] Oh I'm seeing why you told me it wouldn't affect me.
[00:58:57] And you're also telling me that even if I have no free tickets I will need to use a single
[00:59:04] $9.99 purchase twice before it will reset to two tickets?
[00:59:09] He said yes.
[00:59:11] Then I asked him what if I start accumulating free tickets and do not use them for months.
[00:59:16] So let's say I have like six or seven free tickets.
[00:59:19] Well hi I have no $9.99 admissions until I use all but one of them.
[00:59:24] At that point I'll only have $1.99 admission until I use the last free one at which point
[00:59:31] then it would reset to two?
[00:59:33] He said no.
[00:59:35] I will always have at least one $9.99 admission no matter how many free tickets I have accumulated.
[00:59:45] I said okay.
[00:59:47] So I put what he told me to the test on Monday.
[00:59:50] Nice.
[00:59:51] I used my free ticket and went to see if my $9.99 admission reset to two available and
[00:59:58] guess what?
[00:59:59] It did.
[01:00:00] It did.
[01:00:02] So then I purchased a $9.99 admission and according to him I would then only have one more
[01:00:10] admission at that price and I would have to use it before it reset back to two $9.99 admissions.
[01:00:18] That is not true.
[01:00:19] He had no idea what he was talking about on that one.
[01:00:21] It turns out as long as you have no free tickets available you will always be able
[01:00:25] to purchase two tickets at the $9.99 price to every individual screening.
[01:00:33] What a ridiculous convoluted program this is.
[01:00:36] You know the message I'm reading through this?
[01:00:40] Can you guess what I'm going to say?
[01:00:41] Yeah I don't care.
[01:00:42] You can say it afterwards.
[01:00:43] With Landmark Movie Lovers Club for the exact same price it does not matter if I have a
[01:00:50] free admission.
[01:00:51] I will always have two $9.99 admission available to me for every screening.
[01:00:56] No convoluted rules where only one is available in certain situations like Cineplex but whatever
[01:01:03] they're both good deals but one of them is just a little better which is the
[01:01:08] case more often than not when comparing the two leading movie theaters in Chains in Canada.
[01:01:14] You know what else?
[01:01:18] What?
[01:01:19] With Landmark you get 10% off concession.
[01:01:23] You don't get with Cineplex.
[01:01:24] No no you do.
[01:01:25] You get 20% off.
[01:01:26] Of both.
[01:01:27] Of both.
[01:01:28] Yeah you do.
[01:01:29] No you do.
[01:01:30] Well use because you don't have the membership.
[01:01:31] Yeah you get 20% off both.
[01:01:32] So they're the exact same deal except Cineplex is more convoluted.
[01:01:37] So I just wish that Landmark could be a little less mainstream and then I'd be like super happy
[01:01:43] because I'm pumping the tires of Landmark but you're still not bringing in the movies I want
[01:01:47] Landmark.
[01:01:48] You'll be happy to know that this coming weekend Landmark has two art house films that
[01:01:56] we'll be able to watch.
[01:01:57] Well you'll be able to watch.
[01:01:58] I'll be an Edmonton.
[01:01:59] Well they'll be a Landmark and Edmonton.
[01:02:00] Oh I hope they're available in Edmonton.
[01:02:02] No I think they're a little more mainstream in Edmonton though so you probably they're
[01:02:06] not as art housey as we are in Calgary.
[01:02:08] At any rate I just I could not believe I went all through that to just find out.
[01:02:13] I can't believe that you subjected our listeners to ten minutes of that because that was like
[01:02:18] completely boring.
[01:02:19] Whatever.
[01:02:20] And the ultimate message of what he said.
[01:02:22] No I'm educating the masses.
[01:02:25] Let's just go back to what I tell him.
[01:02:26] Well the moral of the story is use up your free tickets when you have them.
[01:02:29] Yeah that's what I've been telling him because you know what I mean.
[01:02:31] I don't like using my free ticket.
[01:02:32] If he drops dead tomorrow.
[01:02:33] You don't like free stuff.
[01:02:34] I like it.
[01:02:35] I like it.
[01:02:36] If he drops dead tomorrow he's got so many free cards on all his different movie cards
[01:02:43] that nobody will get to use and that's what I've been telling him from day one if you
[01:02:47] just would have listened to me the rage now see this is then I would never would have
[01:02:51] learned all this.
[01:02:53] You wouldn't have had to learn it because I've never had to learn it because I use
[01:02:55] my free shit up when it's free because if I dropped it tomorrow probably from a stroke
[01:02:59] from listening to you talk it it's easily gonna make it so I don't have to leave
[01:03:04] that in my will to somebody but I can tell you this if I do die I'm leaving it all to
[01:03:09] Murray because you don't deserve it.
[01:03:10] That's right.
[01:03:11] You're not gonna use the free shit I give you.
[01:03:12] That's right.
[01:03:13] I'm giving it all to Murray.
[01:03:14] I use it eventually.
[01:03:15] I love free stuff.
[01:03:16] No because you literally just cause sinoplex a lot of stress because you're being
[01:03:20] too dumb.
[01:03:21] No reason.
[01:03:22] By the way but when I was like laughing my ass off the guy found the humor in
[01:03:25] it too he was just he was laughing on the other end too.
[01:03:28] I was like I'm sorry buddy I'm not trying to be a pain in the butt I'm just
[01:03:32] trying to understand exactly what every convoluted rule you're gonna throw out
[01:03:35] means he doesn't understand it.
[01:03:37] Well that's the thing works for them and he thought that's the whole thing.
[01:03:40] He understood that it was just so dumb.
[01:03:42] It was stupid.
[01:03:43] They had to make it simple.
[01:03:44] I think the other thing is that he's probably like who in there.
[01:03:46] He's probably we put you on off for three minutes.
[01:03:48] You know what they ask about you goes who in their right mind isn't using
[01:03:52] their free tickets and spending more money than they have to.
[01:03:55] Hey hey Foster check out this dude blah blah blah.
[01:04:00] And you know what they used to have.
[01:04:02] What in the old days paper money punch cards.
[01:04:05] Oh that's two out of like four or five movies you get one free.
[01:04:08] Oh I've killed so many trees whatever are the Brazilian rainforest would be
[01:04:13] much better if they hadn't made punch cards.
[01:04:15] That was a hundred percent.
[01:04:18] There you go.
[01:04:19] I'm sure that's the only reason it's the only reason.
[01:04:21] Whatever.
[01:04:23] You're done.
[01:04:24] I'm done.
[01:04:25] And once again the Murman was right.
[01:04:30] Rage subsided.
[01:04:33] Plus sign.
[01:04:36] Hinger feet.
[01:04:40] All right well you know we did not have a charge from last week mostly
[01:04:45] because we're getting closer to having no more mesmerized off because
[01:04:50] apparently there isn't any left but on top of that we're coming into
[01:04:55] the festival season so we got to clean our pipes out.
[01:05:01] We got to have lots of time to watch the I think it's 30 movies we're going to
[01:05:06] watch a lot of the festival.
[01:05:07] Yeah well we can only see them all because they're not in the same we can
[01:05:12] only go where put our asses in seats however many times a day so get ready
[01:05:17] for that.
[01:05:18] So for those of you who are listening to us your first time and you made
[01:05:20] it through Bryce's rage which you know they're not normally that long
[01:05:23] and they're not normally that terrible so be patient with us for next
[01:05:26] week but.
[01:05:27] Ow!
[01:05:28] Ow!
[01:05:29] Go to our webs yeah that's how I feel oh he's having another cramp.
[01:05:33] We're all in pain.
[01:05:35] He's having a cramp.
[01:05:36] So go to our website filmrageyc.com and if I can sample Bryce
[01:05:42] screaming from his cramps though that will be on our list page but go
[01:05:46] to our list page and look up we have five categories we have
[01:05:51] mesmerizing repulsive doubted and undoubted and we have another
[01:05:55] one that was they were either repulsive or mesmerizing and they were
[01:05:59] taken off from somebody else.
[01:06:02] So this week I want to put forward and I don't know why we didn't
[01:06:05] have this unless we did try to put it on before and the reason
[01:06:09] we didn't put it on is because I thought that I hated Eyes Wide
[01:06:13] Shut.
[01:06:14] Oh you did too.
[01:06:15] Yeah because I watched it when it first came out in 1999.
[01:06:19] Yeah.
[01:06:20] You know what I'm going to rewatch it so I rewatched it over
[01:06:23] the weekend and I didn't hate it.
[01:06:26] Okay.
[01:06:27] There was parts about it that I hated but I didn't hate it so
[01:06:31] that made it a myth which opens the door for us to talk
[01:06:34] about Stanley Kubrick.
[01:06:37] So are you ready for this?
[01:06:39] I am.
[01:06:40] 1962's Lolita it was Mondo.
[01:06:42] Mondo.
[01:06:43] 1964's Doctor Strange Love which is Mondo.
[01:06:46] Mondo.
[01:06:47] 1968's 2001 A Space Odyssey.
[01:06:50] Which is a Mondo.
[01:06:51] Mondo.
[01:06:52] 1971's A Clockwork Orange which is a Mondo.
[01:06:54] Mondo.
[01:06:55] 1975 Barry Linden which is a Mondo.
[01:06:58] Mondo.
[01:06:59] 1980's The Shining is a Mondo.
[01:07:01] Mondo.
[01:07:02] 1987's Full Metal Jacket which is a Mondo.
[01:07:04] Meh.
[01:07:05] Uh oh.
[01:07:06] And then Eyes Wide Shut which is a...
[01:07:11] Meh.
[01:07:12] No!
[01:07:13] How could this happen?
[01:07:15] However.
[01:07:16] No!
[01:07:17] What?
[01:07:18] I'm willing to do something.
[01:07:19] Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut?
[01:07:21] Not both of them.
[01:07:22] I know what...
[01:07:23] What do you have to watch?
[01:07:24] I've watched Eyes Wide Shut twice.
[01:07:25] I know what it is.
[01:07:26] Okay so it's a...
[01:07:27] I didn't hate it but it's a man.
[01:07:28] Yeah it was a man right?
[01:07:29] Yeah good okay.
[01:07:30] I have only watched Full Metal Jacket once.
[01:07:33] I watched it when I was very quite young.
[01:07:36] I would have been what 13 when I watched it.
[01:07:38] I love that movie.
[01:07:39] It's in my...
[01:07:42] In my Vietnam War movies it's my favorite Vietnam War movie.
[01:07:45] I'm not a war movie guy.
[01:07:47] I know you're not.
[01:07:48] I know it makes this one so good.
[01:07:49] Because the acting is so stellar.
[01:07:51] So I will rewatch Full Metal Jacket.
[01:07:55] Nice!
[01:07:56] But remember it's gotta be a mondo.
[01:07:58] Yeah yeah we get it.
[01:08:00] Our listeners are excited about this.
[01:08:02] But it's the one on here where I could say...
[01:08:06] The possibility?
[01:08:07] It's a possibility but I...
[01:08:09] It was you know it was fine but you know I was also very young.
[01:08:13] You were young.
[01:08:14] That's like me when I watched Eyes Wide Shut.
[01:08:16] Yeah you're so young when Eyes Wide Shut came out.
[01:08:19] I miss Superrick.
[01:08:20] He only directed...
[01:08:21] He was just a little baby.
[01:08:22] He was ish.
[01:08:23] And Stan only directed 13 movies in his life.
[01:08:26] Yes.
[01:08:27] And you have to have eight that are mondo?
[01:08:29] Yeah well no there can't be two mezz or a rage.
[01:08:33] No no no.
[01:08:34] Can't be new two mezz back to back.
[01:08:35] There's none that I would rage about but there's some I haven't seen.
[01:08:39] I think there's a lot you haven't seen.
[01:08:40] You haven't seen Lolita?
[01:08:41] No I haven't seen Lolita.
[01:08:42] Have you seen 2001?
[01:08:43] Yes I didn't like it.
[01:08:45] Like you didn't like it's a rage?
[01:08:47] No it was too long I didn't like the ending.
[01:08:49] Alright.
[01:08:50] Did you see Clockwork Orange?
[01:08:52] I did I loved that.
[01:08:53] Alright.
[01:08:54] Have you seen Barry Lyndon?
[01:08:55] I've never heard of it.
[01:08:56] Have you seen Dr. Strangelove?
[01:08:57] No.
[01:08:58] Alright.
[01:08:59] You haven't seen Lolita.
[01:09:00] The Shining?
[01:09:01] Haven't seen it?
[01:09:02] I haven't seen it but I'm sure it's us.
[01:09:03] Full Metal Jacket?
[01:09:04] Did you see him?
[01:09:05] No I know War movie fans.
[01:09:06] And you're not gonna like well you might be mad for...
[01:09:07] Are you kidding Eyes Wide Shut?
[01:09:09] Is your favorite movie?
[01:09:10] With Tom Cruise?
[01:09:11] Yeah.
[01:09:12] And a Naked Nicole Kidman?
[01:09:13] Yeah.
[01:09:14] Are you kidding me?
[01:09:15] Okay.
[01:09:16] It screwed up but it's a Mondo.
[01:09:17] Thank God.
[01:09:18] There was nothing there to take them off.
[01:09:20] Yeah there was nothing that took them off so that's good.
[01:09:22] Except for possibly me with Full Metal Jacket.
[01:09:25] Well you know...
[01:09:26] I'm sure it's a good movie he was in it.
[01:09:29] You know what we have all?
[01:09:30] Harley Ermey's in it.
[01:09:31] We've all done something that's caused us the rest of us to not be happy.
[01:09:36] Adam Baldwin, not one of the Baldmans.
[01:09:39] Uh huh.
[01:09:40] Uh, Harless Howard.
[01:09:42] Yep it's good.
[01:09:44] Alright so we're gonna find out maybe next week whether or not Stanley Kubrick because
[01:09:48] now he's no longer with us will be, uh, undoubted for life.
[01:09:53] There we go.
[01:09:54] There we go.
[01:09:55] That's good.
[01:09:56] That was a good list.
[01:09:57] Maybe next week I don't know.
[01:09:58] I've got a busy week.
[01:10:00] Oh you and your...
[01:10:01] Oh I'm mostly busy Wednesday but we'll see.
[01:10:04] We'll see what happens.
[01:10:05] Yep.
[01:10:06] Alright.
[01:10:07] Last week on Rage or Dare, Jim thought he would get a pass and pull from our listeners bag
[01:10:20] of meh.
[01:10:21] However, he soon realized our listeners in fact do understand how to make him rage as
[01:10:26] he pulled what may be the biggest rage in film rage history.
[01:10:31] That's right he pulled Tron Legacy.
[01:10:36] Damn it why didn't I think of that one?
[01:10:38] Not even the dude could save that.
[01:10:40] Guess he should have written more tank programs.
[01:10:43] This week our two little Ragelings can choose to rage or dare or merman or Casey.
[01:10:50] Hmm, that's a mouthful.
[01:10:53] Doesn't really roll off the tongue.
[01:10:56] Rage or dare or other options.
[01:10:59] Eh, well workshop it.
[01:11:02] Get in front of some focus groups and see what the kids think.
[01:11:04] Anyway let's hear what Jim has to say about the dude and his long forgotten offspring and
[01:11:09] see if the quality is as good as the original 8-bit game of Tron or if the dude should have
[01:11:13] just stayed at the bowling alley.
[01:11:15] Or even just at the arcade.
[01:11:18] No matter what I'm sure our listeners are in for a treat hearing what Jim has to say.
[01:11:23] Damn it why wasn't this in my bag?
[01:11:26] I mean I'm known for my horrible bag of remakes and unnecessary sequels.
[01:11:30] How did I miss this one?
[01:11:34] It's true I don't know how he missed this one.
[01:11:36] Of all things.
[01:11:37] You know what?
[01:11:38] Here's the thing.
[01:11:39] I did a fairly sizable write up about this, about all the reasons that made me rage on
[01:11:45] this film.
[01:11:47] From the very beginning of the movie the person who plays his son is so annoying
[01:11:52] that alone made me want to rage.
[01:11:54] But then on top of that his dad has been missing for like 20 years and then
[01:12:00] in a matter of seconds his partner gets a pager text that they say, oh you should probably
[01:12:06] go back to where he was and put a quarter in the machine.
[01:12:10] And like in five seconds he finds out he's created this world behind a machine.
[01:12:15] I'm already like this is the dumbest.
[01:12:16] That sounds pretty cool.
[01:12:17] No it's like they could have found his dad like 20 years ago.
[01:12:22] And then on that you've got the...
[01:12:25] Yeah you are the simplest solution.
[01:12:28] And then on top of that we get the dude who's basically the dude from...
[01:12:32] We get two dudes.
[01:12:33] Yeah well you get more than two dudes.
[01:12:36] At least two of the dudes.
[01:12:38] There's multiple dudes but they got CGI dude which is absolutely terrible.
[01:12:44] Which is absolutely terrible and then he got old dude who's basically dude and he's
[01:12:48] supposed to be like a genius programmer who talks like and walks and is the dude.
[01:12:53] But he got stuck inside his own game.
[01:12:55] Yeah this movie was so awful and it was over two hours long.
[01:12:59] I hated every frame of this movie.
[01:13:01] I hated the fact they were playing Frisbee Golf to kill each other which made no sense
[01:13:05] whatsoever why they're...
[01:13:06] It's a disc.
[01:13:07] Yeah it's...
[01:13:09] This was so painful to watch.
[01:13:11] I hated this so badly I cannot believe our listeners bag of mad produced the worst movie
[01:13:17] I've ever seen.
[01:13:18] And I remember hating this when I went to the cinema to see it and rewatching
[01:13:22] it again and again my wife, God love her, she looks at me and she says why?
[01:13:30] Why?
[01:13:31] Why?
[01:13:32] Why?
[01:13:33] And then of course we had to go back and watch the original which was still also terrible.
[01:13:36] It was dating.
[01:13:37] But so you've got a terrible movie that also made me make another terrible movie.
[01:13:41] It's...
[01:13:42] Drone the game was fun.
[01:13:43] I remember when there was this in Missile Command I would sometimes play Drone.
[01:13:48] Other than whatever that speeder bike with the colors.
[01:13:51] Yeah it was a laser bike with the things.
[01:13:53] That was fun.
[01:13:54] That was it that's the game.
[01:13:55] Well that's not the whole game there was other things in the game.
[01:13:57] There was like four of them but that was all I really cared about.
[01:13:59] And there's the one where you throw the disc and that was horrible.
[01:14:01] There's a bunch of games in it.
[01:14:04] They're all terrible.
[01:14:05] So the game...
[01:14:06] The games within a game.
[01:14:07] The game and the movies Tron and if they ever make another one I hope I'm
[01:14:12] dead when that happens because it's so terrible.
[01:14:15] Yeah I'm almost convinced I must have fallen asleep through that because I don't remember
[01:14:21] it.
[01:14:22] Well there were two things.
[01:14:23] That was back in the days where I didn't fall asleep in anything.
[01:14:25] I mean I...
[01:14:26] Now you fall asleep in everything.
[01:14:27] I do not.
[01:14:28] That is a vicious rumor that was started by you guys.
[01:14:33] Hashtag wienergate.
[01:14:35] Whatever.
[01:14:36] There's so much wienergate going on right now.
[01:14:37] There actually were two things about this movie I didn't mind.
[01:14:39] I mean yeah it was nowhere near...
[01:14:41] Did you watch it again or something?
[01:14:42] No I watched it the first time.
[01:14:43] Well I watched it a couple times.
[01:14:44] And you remembered it?
[01:14:45] Of course.
[01:14:46] He willingly watched it a couple times, Joe.
[01:14:48] I think he was on TV at some point.
[01:14:50] Michael Sheen as always is awesome.
[01:14:54] I wouldn't say awesome.
[01:14:55] He was the best thing about it.
[01:14:57] Yeah okay I'll give you that.
[01:14:58] I didn't mind Olivia Wilde's because Olivia Wilde...
[01:15:00] I wasn't really listening.
[01:15:02] Who...
[01:15:03] You're pulling?
[01:15:04] We are pulling from either Casey or Merman or the dare bag.
[01:15:09] Merman's got a lot of stuff in here.
[01:15:13] Yeah let's go Merman.
[01:15:14] Mostly stuff on Tubi so you should be able to find it.
[01:15:17] Nice.
[01:15:18] You know what?
[01:15:19] Ain't nothing wrong with Tubi.
[01:15:20] Tubi Tuesday.
[01:15:21] Yeah they got some interesting stuff.
[01:15:22] I've watched some stuff on Tubi recently.
[01:15:25] Yeah.
[01:15:26] I'm broke so I watch a lot of free stuff.
[01:15:28] Yeah.
[01:15:29] Alright we are going to be watching...
[01:15:31] Yes.
[01:15:32] Double Trouble.
[01:15:33] I was hoping you were going to say double impact.
[01:15:36] Nope double trouble from 1992.
[01:15:39] I don't know what that is.
[01:15:40] Murray you've literally made my life happier.
[01:15:42] I don't know what double trouble is.
[01:15:44] I don't know either but...
[01:15:45] Well how did it make your life happier if you don't know where it is?
[01:15:48] Because it's got the name double and trouble at rimes.
[01:15:51] So this place is much in it.
[01:15:52] Wait a minute does this have...
[01:15:53] Is this Mary Kate and Ashley?
[01:15:55] Cause we have a rule about that.
[01:15:57] Yeah it can't be that.
[01:15:58] I don't think it was.
[01:15:59] I can't remember who it was.
[01:16:01] Is it...
[01:16:02] I was kind of on a tear.
[01:16:03] I picked a few actors and I basically listened to older movies.
[01:16:07] Wow this is going to be terrible.
[01:16:09] I remember seeing this.
[01:16:10] Oh it's got the what are they called the Barbarian brothers or something?
[01:16:15] Yep.
[01:16:16] Peter Paul and David Paul.
[01:16:18] Yeah.
[01:16:19] Yeah this is bad.
[01:16:21] I can't wait to see this.
[01:16:22] This could be a Mondo.
[01:16:23] Double trouble.
