[00:01:51] to Rage and oh man yes
[00:02:12] all right well you guys apparently saw three movies I did not you saw two no I saw
[00:02:29] one you bought tickets and went to two I bought tickets and I saw one I don't
[00:02:35] understand you will you will later on leave me you will hear about it later on I'm
[00:02:41] looking forward to it because this is the order on the lineup here the American
[00:02:51] society of magical Negroes magical scenes offensive to me apparently it's a
[00:02:56] comedy so okay look like a comedy according to the trailer there we go look like
[00:03:04] what's going on well trying not to step on toes here I want to say African
[00:03:11] American Harry Potter yeah it kind of looks like it would be to me see everybody
[00:03:18] says that and I never got that watching any of the trailers that's why I got
[00:03:22] from the trade I didn't get that at all but apparently that's the consensus
[00:03:25] that's what people expected apparently black people have apparently the
[00:03:29] magical powers to help the white people to be better yeah which is what I get
[00:03:33] from this sounds like Harry Potter to me how is that Harry Potter based on the premise
[00:03:39] of this and just trailer yeah I'm gonna take a stab and see you guys hated it
[00:03:46] wow wow dude did were you not listening how excited Jim was to be going to this
[00:03:53] movie yeah cuz I love me I love me magical Negroes you know I'll save it
[00:04:03] for later one life one life which I almost saw okay again more than that later
[00:04:09] so that was supposed to have Anthony Hopkins in it and it has a lot of
[00:04:16] Anthony hop that the 20 minutes that I saw had no Anthony Hopkins in it well
[00:04:20] they just needed to wait for two more minutes apparently I don't know because he
[00:04:26] would say pretty equals all I saw was his younger version
[00:04:30] hmm how about on Carter as his mother mom it's just crew she's officially got
[00:04:37] no okay based on the on the stuff matter in the fact historical drama type
[00:04:45] stuff okay I'm gonna go double Mundo on this double Mundo all right he didn't
[00:04:52] obviously look that it was a biopic well yeah cuz now on YouTube I have like
[00:04:57] 10 different videos all about the real guy yes because I watched the trailer for
[00:05:04] for the movie yes that's what happens you must have seen is that silly thing
[00:05:09] before though before the I didn't know was a real guy right about
[00:05:13] surprise anyway finally we all went to see a victor hey Victor it's all like
[00:05:22] half of cuz it was at cif but now you've seen all I have seen all that I sat
[00:05:27] through all of it with yes yeah I heard Bryce laughing so I know he didn't
[00:05:35] absolutely hate it okay but it also had some parts he probably didn't like much
[00:05:40] like me are you saying that you embrace kind of might agree on something
[00:05:46] happens more than people like to admit so yeah let's double-man that one I like
[00:05:51] to admit it all the time me and Murray we're sympathico he just doesn't want
[00:05:54] to admit it for some reason see what is that I don't understand all we do is
[00:05:58] agree no no we never agree but we always agree we know we don't we're we
[00:06:04] basically share one mind no you're literally not agreeing right now we have like
[00:06:09] we're a two opposite ends and once in a blue moon we actually beat the middle
[00:06:14] somewhere that don't happen very often I don't I would disagree anyway so there you go
[00:06:22] whatever I'm sorry what did we give them double man double man all right so we were
[00:06:27] sorry it was rage rage mando mando man mad you're like saying we agree completely
[00:06:33] three or four we may agree completely but that way those are the ratings that's to be heard
[00:06:42] so yeah talk about some magical Negroes right I'm up all right so the society of the American society
[00:06:53] of magical Negroes is the story of do you think they have a candidate Canadian chapter by the way
[00:07:00] I don't think it actually exists this wasn't like a biopic not like the other movie
[00:07:04] we watched yeah so both kind of biopics the other two both kind of biopics yes so as I was
[00:07:14] saying it's the story of Aaron who is recruited by a secret society that exists solely to make
[00:07:22] white folks more comfortable and I guess feel good about themselves hmm sounds like a pretty
[00:07:30] good magical adventure the could the premise could have resulted in something that could have been
[00:07:38] biting satire but in the hands of director and writer Kobe Libby all the potential got muddled
[00:07:47] into a hodgepodge of toothless bland scenes that go nowhere the castor victims of this extreme
[00:07:54] nothingness this script was just so bland I can't even like it it was just nothing like nothing happened
[00:08:05] it was just bad there's a speech at the end yes Aaron delivers yes about being a black man in
[00:08:15] America justice Smith that in another movie could have been powerful it could have been a powerful
[00:08:22] exclamation point if there was some sort of provocative story told but in this movie
[00:08:30] it was too little too late this movie was a directionless romcom mess it was far far from magical
[00:08:41] it was a rage whoa there's bings going off baby so first off everyone needs to realize
[00:08:53] uh one of my favorite genres for those who you don't know is fantasy films so when I heard
[00:09:00] there was a film possibly about magical Negroes I could not be more excited
[00:09:07] so of course leading up to seeing this movie in cinema I kept telling Bryce that
[00:09:12] this was not a romcom because it was actually it turned into want from the trailer
[00:09:18] more than I can see it's totally a romcom so what I thought was
[00:09:23] that it was actually going to be black-haired potter film which is I don't understand how anybody
[00:09:28] could have watched the trailer and thought that because they take them they pull them into a society
[00:09:33] that's what I thought until the girl showed up and like oh they're gonna do a bit of the girl
[00:09:37] shows up in the trailer yeah but halfway through the trailer but at first it's just him and
[00:09:42] and what's his name anyways go on yeah who's awesome then I thought it was a Harry Potter thing
[00:09:47] yeah then the girl shows up that's totally what I thought and that's what a lot of people
[00:09:50] apparently on IMDB also thought yeah I don't you apparently everybody on IMDB and you or
[00:09:57] were had had such high expectations what this should have been yeah so I thought they were
[00:10:02] you're just gonna do a bait and switch yeah that it hinted it was gonna be a wrong car yeah but
[00:10:08] that we would get Harry Potter meets men in black that's what I thought we were gonna get right yeah
[00:10:13] it even has a direct assembly until the original man in black yeah did you just that did not happen
[00:10:18] so I hate to admit this because I normally don't like admitting this but Bryce was absolutely
[00:10:24] right this was a romcom and it was romcom it was probably the worst romcom that I've seen
[00:10:33] it was not only completely unrealistic and convenient this as Bryce has already kind of alluded to
[00:10:40] this movie was so completely boring I was lying on my side because we had the theater to ourselves
[00:10:46] as usual and I'm lying there I'm going Bryce did I fall asleep and he's like no no it's just
[00:10:51] still boring and I must ask him that like ten times but I think I might I think I might have fallen
[00:10:56] asleep if you if you did you didn't miss anything well that's what that's what you said because I was like
[00:11:01] I've never heard dialogue and story that is so fucking boring in my life yeah it was just like the
[00:11:08] it went absolutely nowhere and then all of a sudden there's like it like just starts
[00:11:15] changing him and then like you think it's going in one direction but it's not like a
[00:11:21] cleverly written way I think it's going in one direction oh wow know what went this direction it
[00:11:25] was just like he was no Dungeons and Dragons he was no he yeah it was no Dungeons and Dragons that's
[00:11:30] for sure and we know we all thought that was pretty good because he was in it yeah he was just a
[00:11:37] Smith yeah he's the best of all this you know what he was fine here too he just had nothing to work
[00:11:44] with as the whole cast they just had nothing to work with when you can when you can maybe make
[00:11:49] Michaela Watkins bland she's a frickin spitfire in every single movie yeah she's like
[00:11:55] that steel scenes in every movie she's in she's fantastic in every movie she's in
[00:12:00] if you can see if you can take her and water her down to this point you're not only a terrible writer
[00:12:06] but a terrible director that's a really big woman who was in charge no no oh who is that
[00:12:12] that's what's her name from she's from that TV show she was the head of it whoever
[00:12:21] what head of sight whoever was she she was awesome too actually but yeah this this was this was a
[00:12:27] rage it was awful I don't even want to give it shocker I don't even really want to give it too much
[00:12:32] more discussion other than well completely completely agree with what you said justice has
[00:12:37] the scene near the end of the movie yeah and and it comes out kind of out of nowhere because his
[00:12:44] character it's like all of a sudden his his character grew a pair yeah and it there was nothing
[00:12:50] that built him up to be able to have grown that pair and think about justice Smith's character okay
[00:12:56] this is this writing was so bad we know we literally know nothing about him we don't know
[00:13:02] it kind of came up once that he had a white that he had a white mom yeah that's it that's all we
[00:13:08] know about it so the only thing we know about yeah we don't even know if he's got a brother or
[00:13:14] a sister we don't we don't know if he's going to know we don't know how we don't know how we
[00:13:18] don't know how we get dollars worth of yeah exactly we don't know anything like he didn't have
[00:13:22] it he just all the sudden yeah okay there's like no character development this you just you just
[00:13:28] throw it at the and I'm just supposed to buy into everything and why do I care about this kid
[00:13:33] when there's I don't know anything about him nothing nothing this is just terrible well that's
[00:13:39] terrible writing with every character in it all the characters were bad this yeah by the way
[00:13:44] this this whole thing I don't know if you knew this but this whole this whole concept of the magical
[00:13:49] Negro yes was actually coined by mr. Spike Lee referring to all the television in the movies over
[00:13:56] the past yeah yeah they'd have that guy you know like that they're in the movie just to make the white
[00:14:01] guy look good yeah no I know so I mean but that could have been what did they get Spike Lee did do it
[00:14:06] it's why I would have been a really good movie I think I think Spike Lee must be going oh man
[00:14:11] why you destroyed my idea and it wasn't his idea it was just something that he he's like he
[00:14:16] was he was lying basting you know Hollywood for forever for doing that for exactly the whole 20th
[00:14:22] century basically so yeah this movie's awful I highly suggest no one sees it yeah here's a few
[00:14:28] spoilers um they fall in love and then you know the whole society of magical Negroes happens to change
[00:14:36] their whole beliefs and stance on things just because of justice and from what I talk from the trailer
[00:14:41] is the guy the white guy that he's assigned to help yes he interferes with him falling in love with
[00:14:48] the girl he takes the girl for himself which is what pisses off his loss no not not really not really
[00:14:53] no that's what things trailers yeah it's but it's not yeah it's not yeah but just once again though the cast
[00:15:00] they just deserved better I mean David Allen Greer there's another character that like I don't know
[00:15:06] why he's hilarious he's hilarious and at the beginning I'm like okay maybe this can go somewhere
[00:15:12] but nothing happens with him and I don't know what he's doing at the end like the way he reacts
[00:15:16] the things just doesn't make sense to me like he's just not reacting um you know and Anely Bogeon
[00:15:22] as as Lizzie I mean she was fine yeah she was good she was good they just had nothing to work with
[00:15:29] no nothing yeah and just like you're saying the word nothing let's say absolutely nothing more about
[00:15:35] this film all right so the other film we saw that Murray saw some of 20 minutes of and I still have
[00:15:44] to apologize because I was typing where I was sitting in this letter I couldn't find them yeah it
[00:15:50] was the biggest theater in one and it's like really hard to find people in there because there's no
[00:15:55] lighting in it yeah how many people were there there was at least 25 yeah you probably there was
[00:16:03] one person in there what found him but no yeah when he people and I was got in their 10 minutes
[00:16:08] and my this may be a hint as to what my rage is I do but I wasn't sitting in the seat that I was
[00:16:15] that I had paid for yeah so you were assigned to seat you know because I bought it I spot the seat
[00:16:21] that the computer told me you want to sit here and I said yeah that's where I want to sit
[00:16:28] that's where I want to sit you got there someone was in there well no no no no there's people around
[00:16:33] it's exciting yeah okay so in this story of a man with Jewish heritage who is
[00:16:41] now agnostic who saved 669 Czech Jews in the beginning of World War II this is a biopic and if you
[00:16:51] like looking at pictures of kids and stamping said pictures with stamps by government officials
[00:16:57] and people getting in and off trains plus people standing in lines and posing for staged shots
[00:17:04] to get an emotional effect then you will absolutely love this film me on the other hand I found it
[00:17:12] one of those biopics that tells an important story but probably could have been a BBC 60-minute
[00:17:18] history channel show instead it probably was maybe I like the story it was trying to tell and
[00:17:28] I love hearing about caring heroes who save lives this but this was not a great movie I found
[00:17:36] for the most part it was pretty boring however it did save itself a little bit because the scene
[00:17:43] that made me cry from the trailer also made me cry in the movie wait does that does that make
[00:17:50] the trailer a man or does it make the film a man because you know my rule if I cry it's got to be a man
[00:17:57] no if you cry if you cry it's got to be I guess at least a man but so it did the job it made me
[00:18:04] cry but I did not think the movie was great so I'm torn because I cried in the trailer yes
[00:18:12] so is the trailer a man or is the film a man the trailer's a Mando and the films a man
[00:18:19] that's okay that's it it was a man I would explain why I you guys are in a Mando it because I saw the trailer
[00:18:26] yes the month and 15 minutes and I never watched the trailer thanks for walking me through that
[00:18:34] by the way because I was really torn because if I didn't cry this would have been a rage but because
[00:18:41] I cried it I couldn't pass up the man I can't disagree with anything you're saying there honestly
[00:18:49] the the stuff with Anthony Hopkins I found was pretty effective the whole the whole way through
[00:18:54] and the stuff with young Anthony Hopkins Johnny Flynn as Nicholas Wynton was not as compelling and
[00:19:04] it should have been and I don't know why they couldn't make that situation more because it was such a
[00:19:10] tense there's no origin intense yeah but somehow they didn't no it was just it was just like didn't you
[00:19:16] find it was mostly okay let's stamp some more pictures of kids it was like it was kind of like when
[00:19:22] you when you listen to a podcast that's a true crime podcast and then they list every single person
[00:19:27] that was murdered in this particular situation and you're like yeah I know you kind of want to
[00:19:31] give them props but can't just put that in your show notes like they didn't really tend to need
[00:19:35] to show us 669 kids and watch the get their picture stamps and I felt like it and that last the last
[00:19:43] train that never got to leave I that should have been more powerful yes you know and it it wasn't
[00:19:51] but as you say the entire film is saved with with the Anthony Hopkins in the two T.O. studio
[00:19:58] yeah that right there it's like that's compelling stuff and that is basically what why this whole movie
[00:20:05] got made is because of that yes and that's where we're going towards the whole way but it's almost
[00:20:12] too little too late once they get there because they really should have done a better job leading up
[00:20:18] to that and once again the Anthony Hopkins stuff when they're in his time yeah it's good it's all good
[00:20:24] everything in it in it in it fits and it's good they dropped the ball on the historical stuff
[00:20:30] yeah and I just I don't know why it didn't work but it just it didn't it was it was flat
[00:20:35] to your point there was no intensity to it it was more factual kind of kind of you know even
[00:20:41] even when they all they seem to like focus on the wrong things in my opinion and it was just
[00:20:47] like even there were some scenes in there that were that were good and they need they needed to be
[00:20:51] there but they're there needed to be more to that part of the story and because of that once
[00:20:56] again the ending I mean you can't deny that it's whoever you are it's gonna affect you it's absolutely
[00:21:02] gonna affect you so you can't rage obviously about this but because the buildup wasn't what it should
[00:21:09] have been it can't be a mondo either so it's it's a man and I I feel badly because it's such a great
[00:21:15] story yeah and I think that there was somebody else could have maybe made this better and yeah
[00:21:20] you hate to say that but they should be stuck with the truth and but the thing is they did all
[00:21:26] this stuff in his time like in the you know in the present well you keep saying it like it's
[00:21:31] it was it was like a separate movie because it was really done well it was all done well yeah
[00:21:37] and it wasn't just because of hop it wasn't just that it was a movie and that yeah
[00:21:42] maybe you should have cast a better young Anthony no the acting was fine he was fine it was just
[00:21:47] it was just it just and hella at the bottom part it was was fantastic clean all in it
[00:21:53] well that was impressive I watched the guy I didn't like the guy at all oh the character oh Johnny
[00:21:59] Flynn is Nicholas went and did like at any rate uh still worth watching yeah no and it's a heart
[00:22:05] wrenching important historical and when you went to your point I would seek out documentaries are real
[00:22:12] yeah yeah absolutely and just have have the Kleenex nearby when you get the boat an hour and a half
[00:22:16] in yeah just have it ready yeah maybe two boxes because it's good it's a good second two boxes if
[00:22:22] you're Jim yeah I just need one piece I'm full of fluids you know because his heart is three
[00:22:28] sizes too small that's right all right now the the most exciting moment yeah of our night
[00:22:37] yeah was it what huh hey Victor hey Victor
[00:22:45] I tell you who's am I doing this yeah that's you all right hey Victor follows the exploits
[00:22:52] of Cody Lightning who played Victor in the movie smokesignals 25 years ago this mockumentary
[00:23:00] finds Cody teaching drama in a gymnasium as he takes whatever acting gig he can get which can
[00:23:07] sometimes be a little pain in the ass and I mean that and I mean that literally yes by chance
[00:23:18] more on that later by chance Cody meets crazy pawn shop owner who is a big fan of Victor from
[00:23:25] smoke signals and based on this love of that film gives Cody $100,000 to make a sequel to smoke
[00:23:31] signals basically that's what he's going on here from there you can imagine Cody runs into a
[00:23:36] couple of snags and personal some legal some just pure stupidity the movie is very funny at the
[00:23:43] beginning and the laughs do keep coming albeit farther and farther apart as a film approaches it's
[00:23:50] sort of lackluster conclusion still I laughed a lot and I had a good time so hey Victor was an
[00:23:56] enjoyable man all right did you wait you predicted that I did like I said I'm laughing so I know
[00:24:04] he didn't hate it you are the amazing merman if he didn't laugh at all it would have been a rage no
[00:24:08] there was some funny stuff in this movie oh yeah no I wasn't there was quite a bit of funny stuff really
[00:24:15] okay well let me tell you what I thought of hey Victor hey Victor um hey Victor
[00:24:23] or as the title should be for copyright reasons hey Victor Victor yes as Bryce has already
[00:24:29] mentioned some mockumentary about Cody lightning who has been reliving his five minutes of fame
[00:24:34] as a child actor where he played Victor from the indigenous film smoke signals which is you they
[00:24:42] say it in the movie that it's the very first ever all indigenous yeah written directive yeah
[00:24:50] I mean even had even had a review from Roger Ebert yeah and and a friend of mine down the states
[00:24:57] we don't even go to movies yeah new with it but what's the same signals well everybody knows
[00:25:01] I saw him watched it what what what what this is your heritage Murray was you call yourself
[00:25:10] what you can you can't you can't un-was yourself yeah I was myself like 30 years ago okay well you just
[00:25:17] when my dad left me okay well there you go um so he is complete idiot and asshole with everyone in
[00:25:25] his life and has destroyed every relationship he had ever had yeah and he finally gets a chance
[00:25:34] to do the sequel to smoke signals nice but no one will help him because he pissed all of them off
[00:25:40] for like 20 years consistently the comedy is vulgar and Cody lightning appears to like being naked
[00:25:49] throughout the entire season which also what you also makes this very funny there's the
[00:25:55] whitest person on the planet that is his manager who thinks she's 50% indigenous and eventually
[00:26:02] in a pinnacle moment in the film she finds out not only is she 100% white she is also related to
[00:26:09] the OG of colonialism like when that perfect when she responded that in the in the theater I've
[00:26:19] completely lost my shit literally the best writing that ever could happen it was genius yeah this
[00:26:29] has a lot of funny as Bryce has already mentioned mostly from the side characters some of the acting
[00:26:35] is not the greatest and there are bit parts by some Canadian legends like Adam Beach and Colin
[00:26:41] Mockery as well as Simon Baker who shows his acting chops in this and as his arch nemesis come
[00:26:51] hero partner I laughed a lot in this film this really is a self deprecating slash redemption film
[00:27:00] the comedy lands the inside colonialism jokes superland but this does what a lot of comedies do they
[00:27:08] fill in comedy parts with either too much story or in this case cakes and this cakes makes hard turns
[00:27:18] in the story and I'm guessing from the field of film the hard turns are because of editing reasons
[00:27:25] alone because I think it was a little bloated and then they just took out some of the scenes that kind
[00:27:31] of didn't help it it seemed too choppy as much as I really like this and did my fair share of falling
[00:27:39] in love with Cody lightning and his naked body it gets a cherry on top for his
[00:27:45] is his desperation to find work that he has to take bottom gigs in gay porn to get by yes but that's not
[00:27:55] enough to make me love this so this movie is a man for yeah it was I liked it a lot and I think
[00:28:05] everybody should see this movie it's funny it's funny there is a significant percentage of
[00:28:09] indigenous actors in this yeah which is always important and they're all and they're all so good
[00:28:14] they're also good like holy mother of god Baker was amazing yes you was he was brilliant plus we
[00:28:21] get an Adam Beach siding which is always welcome never just never get enough out of beach all right
[00:28:28] Merwin do you think of your once uh brown heritage my was never proud of it but
[00:28:35] well you should be no because you haven't met me with my relatives I'm sorry but you haven't met them
[00:28:41] but I know there's some pretty amazing indigenous people yeah as is mentioned before I have not
[00:28:46] seen small signals despite the fact that I am oh one sixteenth matey on my dad's side although
[00:28:53] you know I haven't really done anything with that family since I was about eight years old since
[00:28:58] you know he budget basically left us and you know basically he was an asshole so didn't really make
[00:29:03] me want to explore my heritage very much wait is your dad Cody lightning no okay he makes Cody
[00:29:10] lightning looks like a saint okay um but yeah so I hadn't seen the first one I did see part of this
[00:29:18] one because it did play at one of our festivals and I was in the booth and I watched a good chunk
[00:29:23] of at least the start of it in the middle of it um yeah like it was basically a smoke signals too
[00:29:29] and the guy who the pawn shop owner was basically a Russian mobster of some kind but basically
[00:29:36] said well we'll give you money if you get all the original cast which of course they're all pissed off
[00:29:41] at him so they don't um to me it was like 90 minutes of watching um a first nation slash aboriginal
[00:29:54] fat and hairy Zack snuffle up with his because that's who you reminded me of the whole fucking movie
[00:30:01] I thought it's the guy from the hangover guaranteed you it's like that character except he's native
[00:30:08] like it was the same character and yeah he was naked for half the movie and there was like a few scenes
[00:30:14] with like feces which may be uncomfortable that was awesome um but yeah I had to funny moments
[00:30:22] and it brought back one vivid memory of mine from from my upbringing oh when you were a bottom in
[00:30:29] porn no but when I was a little tight and I was around a lot of you know matey people was a
[00:30:36] swarer which I heard almost every day from my grandmother my dad all of his siblings some of my
[00:30:44] cousins that term was takai which is a swarer word I won't tell you what it means but basically it's
[00:30:51] the same thing as it probably you think it means in French but yeah I heard that I'm like hey I
[00:30:56] remember that word um yeah it had some funny moments but yeah some just got off all moments too and
[00:31:03] yeah I couldn't stop thinking this was just Zach Gallifinakis and it just I don't like him at all
[00:31:09] so that didn't make me appreciate it anymore I like Zach back to elephant I did like his manager
[00:31:16] I think we're fine how the whole movie so he just got my my hair results back turns out I'm white
[00:31:25] that you again I lost my shit when she said that I'm like oh my god
[00:31:29] and the fact that they had one of his friends pretend to be Adam Beach because they basically broke in
[00:31:35] and stole the wig because guess you can't get a wig anywhere else I don't have the fact that it's
[00:31:40] in Adam Beach's house under like yeah like the alarm system's like this wiggins yet the door is unlocked
[00:31:47] it's so important so the doors unlocked it to his house but they got alarms on his wig anyway yeah
[00:31:53] so they had a fake Adam Beach and then he just shows up in like a dream sequence yes that wig
[00:31:59] and then Gary Farmer who I don't know if I don't think he really is but if he was a sheriff to
[00:32:03] the last 20 years I don't know if he really was but he wasn't this movie yeah it wasn't the movie
[00:32:08] but I don't know if he actually was because I haven't seen him in a long time but yeah I was like
[00:32:12] him too uh so yeah that's some funny parts but at some parts I really didn't like maybe it would
[00:32:17] help if I'd seen the original but yeah again Cody Lightning the guy I was his real name or his
[00:32:24] stage name whatever he was in the original for like three minutes because they kept showing the same
[00:32:29] clip over and over again he am running after a pickup truck this driving away that's the only clip
[00:32:35] they showed from the movies that the only clip he was in and for that he made a career over 30 years
[00:32:40] yeah teaching little like kids how to act then because everybody a new way Victor
[00:32:46] not everybody maybe he's talented it was one of the most important scenes in the movie
[00:32:50] sure anyway um yeah no I can't it's barely a man it just it was okay but it was so funny in parts
[00:32:57] but it wasn't good enough that's that's kind of how we all felt it was me I know if that means
[00:33:04] oh yeah where is that
[00:33:11] right there anymore unpacking to do yeah I think people should see this movie it's funny
[00:33:17] there's a lot of funny you know I would say it's hard for me to see a comedy and
[00:33:23] and I love it there's not for many comedies I really love not too many but there's a lot of
[00:33:28] you know black comedies that I kind of appreciate and I like really twisted
[00:33:32] dark comedy like super dark comedies so with this one I had a lot of darkness but yeah
[00:33:38] it's can't seem to put together they can't seem to put comedies fully together
[00:33:43] it's so weird how they start off so strong and yeah there are very few there
[00:33:49] and it's like where it's like where did the jokes go well not only the jokes but I think what they
[00:33:54] try and do is they try and take the jokes and then try and make a bigger story than it needs to be
[00:34:02] maybe right and my red or my red because I mean at least comedies now I don't know comedies back in
[00:34:10] the day well yeah I'd prefer older comedies personally I mean I watch I watch older movies that I've
[00:34:15] seen a hundred times and I still laugh when I watch a man one hundred times right it's seen some
[00:34:22] movies over a hundred times and they always one hundred times a hundred times pretty much all
[00:34:29] junk candies library really still enjoy it I usually watch a movie once and then if the movies
[00:34:39] if the movie's lucky I watch it a second time yes and I'm giving the movie if it happens on TV when
[00:34:46] I'll put them channels I will stop and watch it if I like I got movies like that did it what what
[00:34:51] ones have you seen a hundred times never watched anything a hundred times but there's movies that
[00:34:55] I stop and watch I have movies I've watched a hundred times probably I could list two I could list zero
[00:35:02] I can list three so only three that I've seen over a hundred times I do know why there's no way
[00:35:08] I've seen one of them does Donna the dead I've watched I used to get in grade 11 and 12 every day at lunch
[00:35:15] I would smoke weed and watch Donna the dead and eat alpha-gettean popcorn that was my meal
[00:35:21] every single day oh good I was a pretty I was a pretty boring kid by the sounds of things and then
[00:35:26] I watched Donna the dead probably about ten times maybe okay it's still ten's pretty good
[00:35:33] can that's pretty good for you yeah and I saw Star Wars the original Star Wars in theaters every day
[00:35:39] that it played at the cinema really really every day I saw the whole summer the whole summer
[00:35:44] I watched it every day I've probably seen it seven or eight times yeah you're older than me so I
[00:35:49] didn't see the original yeah when it came out I saw seven yeah and the last one was the
[00:35:56] exercise because it's just so good I've seen it probably about six or seven times yeah I've now seen it
[00:36:01] twice twice not even either time what are you talking about all right well I guess that's enough of
[00:36:07] talking about hey Victor hey Victor oh the mur
[00:36:18] is not looking happy Maria you know what no what you're playing different music can't do it what
[00:36:25] that's happy music and full of rage oh well put some rage music I don't have rage music
[00:36:30] it's fine that's fine you can have my rage music um but the amazing last last week we talked about our
[00:36:37] experience at the VIP cinema yes which these two of us didn't enjoy that's fine um this week
[00:36:45] is the opposite of that what lack of customer service lack of customer service on Thursday
[00:36:53] I was supposed to join Jim at the local downtown cineplex for the Anthony Hopkins film yes
[00:37:01] star time was seven p.m. I finished work at seven p.m. by the time I got there found parking
[00:37:09] and bought my ticket at the stupid key ask it was seven twenty but considering there are 15
[00:37:16] minutes of trailers and commercials I figured I had nothing to worry about you didn't have nothing
[00:37:20] well thanks to cineplex audience new policies of closing down early most nights and not even being
[00:37:29] open some others the concession was completely shut down whoa these idiots were standing there but
[00:37:37] they wouldn't they wouldn't even tell me a bottle of water like they had that the soda machine was
[00:37:43] there they couldn't give me something but nothing couldn't give me anything so after I got pissed off
[00:37:49] of that I went to find the theater which turned out to be the theater that was outside of the venue
[00:37:55] yes and church and because there's nobody manning the gate I could have just walked in for three
[00:38:01] your ticket yeah so yeah I was still allowed to buy a ticket from the stupid key ask even though
[00:38:08] everything else was shut down oh man they didn't shut down the key ask they should allow you to buy
[00:38:13] the ticket but you couldn't actually buy anything else I should just smuggle my own food in you
[00:38:18] should have um and like I said ironically the theater the movie was playing in was outside the venue
[00:38:23] so I kind of walked in for free then I couldn't find Jim in a three of heads in a pitch dark theater
[00:38:30] they didn't even have lights with the steps that run down run in the murder steps you're saying
[00:38:35] the murder steps yeah they had no no no because it was an older older than the cinema they didn't have
[00:38:40] running lights they didn't have lights above they had it was pitch dark so after 15 minutes of
[00:38:47] trying to find Jim and trying to watch the movie I got pissed off and left so $14 wasted
[00:38:57] I understand times are tough and people don't go to movies anymore and the downtown cinema is being
[00:39:03] bulldozing two months still it doesn't excuse treating your customers like crap
[00:39:08] landmark doesn't do that they have movies starting after 9 p.m. and keep the concession
[00:39:14] open at least 30 minutes after the movie is started yes so from now on landmark will be getting
[00:39:21] all of my business unless a movie is playing at my theater down this street on a Tuesday afternoon
[00:39:38] so
[00:39:49] oh my rage is going to be anywhere close to Murray's holy crap that takes the punches the ticket
[00:40:02] takes the button does it something something about T in China they pissed me off that's
[00:40:08] that's literally the best rage we should change our podcast name to Murray's film rage
[00:40:17] made me uncomfortable well I'm sorry about that but it's the truth he's he was pretty man
[00:40:23] I might have actually enjoyed that movie if I had actually been able to see it yeah so the my rage
[00:40:29] doesn't come close to Murray's but I can tell you it's about the same sin but it wasn't because of
[00:40:37] because of anything that happened to Murray although I'm sad that he didn't get to join me and I
[00:40:42] was mad at myself for not properly telling him where I was sitting but what happened was
[00:40:49] I went to go sit in my seats and when I had bought my ticket I had picked the very last
[00:40:56] row that I could buy the ticket on and when I went to go sit there was two ladies sitting beside
[00:41:04] each other and in my seat now you're actually in your seat well so I thought they were sitting
[00:41:10] in I thought they were sitting in my seat so I said I think you might be sitting in my seat
[00:41:13] because when I bought my ticket it actually was at the end of the row so I'm like okay that's
[00:41:19] it was the oil but what it was was that they had blocked out the the handycapped
[00:41:25] attendant seats so they got they came about their tickets after the fact and they bought the
[00:41:30] handy cap attendant seats but there was like those two people sitting and then me and then like
[00:41:38] five more people sitting so I would have to get this one lady who is you know had mobility issues
[00:41:45] get them to get up and cross over to them and I'm just thinking it sounds why would you buy those
[00:41:50] because the where I ended up sitting there was a whole row of seats that were open yeah no they're
[00:41:55] handycapped seats in the middle right beside me when there's like probably 25 other seats they could
[00:42:01] have sat so yeah anyway I felt bad because I'm like I think you're sitting in my seat and then
[00:42:07] down top of that I wasn't about to go first off get them to get up and then go sit right beside
[00:42:12] them when there's like hundreds of seats in the cinema that I could have sat in so I just said you
[00:42:17] know I don't worry about it I'll just sit over somewhere else so that was my rage that was it
[00:42:22] that's all yeah it was like people that go to the movie theater that you know should be wiser about
[00:42:28] where they sit well like if they're sitting like we've had times where we go to this cinema where
[00:42:34] it's like there's three of us in the cinema and someone bought the right fucking seat right beside me
[00:42:39] is a right friend of us why did you need you got to see who was there why would you buy your seat
[00:42:46] right beside me yeah it takes me off yeah I prefer just I just move anyway it's all you got all right
[00:43:09] let's see you uh rice oh it's my turn it's your turn it's your music where's just looking for
[00:43:31] prices rage went I think it's dog-aided everything else around here uh my rage is that the new marquee
[00:43:42] mark movie opened this weekend everywhere and I didn't get to see it you know to hit out a poopy
[00:43:47] dog in it and it looked like it was gonna be heartwarming you want to see marquee mark what yeah
[00:43:53] Arthur the King came out everywhere what we didn't get it we didn't get it so I didn't get
[00:44:00] to see the poopy dog movie with with marquee mark and simulu well that's weird yeah because marquee
[00:44:07] marks a big draw usually yeah was the dog a conversion dog no oh you sure about that yeah no this
[00:44:14] wasn't it I mean now you know it's a marquee mark movie so there's probably gonna be you know some
[00:44:20] conversion adjacent content but it's still was a dog hearing voices from God maybe the dog was just
[00:44:27] cool dog it was you know he was he had he was he was uh he was a stray and he ran the mirror of the
[00:44:36] uh whatever it is the lost a mirror path along the heptathlon the one where you're like biking
[00:44:41] and triathlon that's it three things anyways there in some foreign country I don't know what but
[00:44:51] I didn't get to watch the movies well not bummed you know what I'm was that I put out a cute poopy
[00:44:56] dog in it what so poopy dogs yeah who doesn't well I want to say that but you know still it had
[00:45:03] marquee mark in it had your tea leaves favorite actress wow that's true is there a mark
[00:45:09] it was gonna wreck it it was gonna be marquee mark but you know it might have been okay but I
[00:45:13] don't never know because you know didn't come out well then you'll just have to buy it it's more
[00:45:18] that we keep on having movies that just aren't coming out here when they're coming out anywhere and
[00:45:22] it doesn't matter if it's bad or some other stupid movie that I don't want to sit all or a good movie
[00:45:28] or a good movie it's just the fact that I wish they all would come out because it's not like there's
[00:45:32] like a landslide of films coming out they've got so many freaking cinemas playing the same garbage
[00:45:39] over and over again and it's the same rage as I've had before but that's what it is so basically
[00:45:44] what you're saying is all the rage is this week yours was the worst I don't know I thought yours
[00:45:51] was ridiculous and I was uncomfortable with I scared you a little
[00:45:57] marie's merman minute made price like up to pop so I don't still valid
[00:46:03] yeah I don't want to talk about that
[00:46:07] rage
[00:46:09] exciting
[00:46:19] all right we haven't had the list for a while
[00:46:23] so murea have you found us a challenge I guess so
[00:46:27] apparently either I was away or what I wasn't paying attention which could be either one
[00:46:33] of those two things but apparently rizad med managed to get on her mesmerizing list
[00:46:39] yeah yeah how could he not be I don't remember when that happened anyway
[00:46:43] so yeah the rest of them like he's been on my mesmerizing list since the first time I saw
[00:46:47] I'm down to a half a page of mesmerizing so there's not a whole lot of choice anymore
[00:46:53] okay oh so I had two choices with rizad med nice
[00:47:00] uh one is your favorite star wars movie what but I think I'm gonna go with the other one
[00:47:08] oh because it has the only one with the guy who for some reason is still mesmerizing and I
[00:47:13] can't find anybody else for him to face off with so we got rizad med and walking Phoenix
[00:47:20] oh little movie called sister's brother oh yeah I don't know that yeah he's coming
[00:47:29] no they're both in it I know they're both in and they're like right beside each other on the
[00:47:33] endy b so okay what let's see I'm sure one of them has more screen time somebody else yeah I don't
[00:47:38] want to walk and if that one doesn't qualify then we'll go with the other one which sorry what's it
[00:47:42] called sister's brothers so we've seen it John what's his name in it
[00:47:48] nice anyway there all right sweet that's all you got uh well we'll just maybe remind everybody who's
[00:47:55] um who's listening to us if you don't if you don't what's that beeping noise
[00:48:02] god me I don't have any technology there's like boing boing boing boing boing boing
[00:48:08] um for those of you're listening just if you've never heard our podcast before go to our website
[00:48:13] film rage yyc.com and check out our page called the lists there is five lists and so we've been
[00:48:19] trying to take people off our mesmerizing list sorry I can't recognize music right now please try
[00:48:24] again in a bit okay there you go so obviously let computers take over the world that's right
[00:48:32] Syria I think came on I'm just gonna take over the planet exactly yeah nice so anyway you were saying
[00:48:38] so yeah we have lists going to the website yep check it out there you go
[00:48:43] so
[00:48:51] last time on rage or dare Jim was lucky enough to pull another film from Bryce's bag of musical
[00:48:58] romcoms with his previously despised rage crush Matthew McConaughey who knew he wasn't so many romcoms
[00:49:06] huh this week the boys can choose to oh what's this they can choose to Casey or Casey or even Casey
[00:49:16] yes in your face sweet succulent Casey man that feels good okay let's check it with Jim and see
[00:49:25] what happens when you put the apparent king of romcoms in what is possibly the biggest action romcom
[00:49:31] well is that even a thing of course it is as everyone forgot about romancing the stone oh well
[00:49:37] I'm sure this McCona masterpiece is solid solid gold
[00:49:48] going dead tough tough get going the hurt I even know what's happening right now
[00:49:55] I'm singing the song from jewel denial I don't want the hell he's singing romantically the stone Eddie
[00:50:01] Grant from romancing the stone I don't know that one well that's not like you said romancing
[00:50:07] the stone he didn't say the sequel jewel of the Nile it's basically the same movie he's he's not
[00:50:12] wrong there Bryce not wrong yeah but they're not the same movie oh you know what I said basically
[00:50:17] you know what's Eddie Grant one's Billy Ocean who the hell's Eddie Grant you know
[00:50:23] gonna rock down to electric avenue that's right over
[00:50:33] what is that he's two hits because he sang the I'm romancing the stone yet I've never heard of
[00:50:39] that one but you know I remember seeing romancing this because that's one of your favorite movies
[00:50:44] I thought though you're a huge romancing the stone fan I'm surprised well let me tell you a little
[00:50:51] bit about fools gold you know when you see an amazing film and come out feeling energized and
[00:51:01] full of life and you say out loud man these actors are at the top of their game yes well in this case
[00:51:12] I came out feeling icky and like part of me had died yeah I said these actors are at the bottom
[00:51:23] of their game yes they are I don't think I've ever actually said that after seeing a movie before
[00:51:29] I don't think I've ever walked out of the movie and said these actors are at the bottom of their
[00:51:35] game never been worse so just so you know every single person in this movie is using an accent
[00:51:47] of a country or location that they're not from yeah and none of them sound any good
[00:51:54] so on top of their acting chops being at the bottom of everybody's game apparently so was
[00:52:01] their fake accents so good Kevin Hart yes that Kevin Hart was in this yes is a gang boss
[00:52:09] Maddie Mack was full on the most annoying he ever has been and Kate Hudson is completely repulsive
[00:52:18] how anybody could watch this and cast her in anything is beyond me
[00:52:23] and I will say this and be on the record not just in this but in every single movie she's in
[00:52:30] she is repulsive she's she's not yet but on a good side Maddie Mack keeps his shirt off for
[00:52:39] most of the movie so there's that this is basically a romcom that isn't funny so no calm and then
[00:52:47] not romantic so no wrong romcom sans the calm and the wrong but what is left is a movie yes where two
[00:52:56] repulsive people try to get a divorce and then fall in love again oh that's hurt warm as they search
[00:53:02] for treasure but the real treasure yes is that their love was real and by real I mean really really
[00:53:11] really unbelievable and annoying and rage-inducing this was so completely awful it was fitting that it
[00:53:20] was the last film it was the last thing in your bag so it knew it had to be pretty good but you
[00:53:26] know I remember seeing this in theaters when it first came out and I remember walking out of the
[00:53:30] movie and I never said it but now that I'm thinking back when I did see it I probably was thinking
[00:53:36] of thinking in my mind it just didn't say it everyone in this movie is at the bottom of their game
[00:53:42] so yeah oh and on top of that the soundtrack was awful they had maybe one um
[00:53:48] Bob Marley song in it and then the rest of it was just music that wasn't knowing
[00:53:53] so I'm putting this out there just go go ahead and ask me one thing about this movie I'm just
[00:53:58] trying to tell you terrible levels of terror in this just ask me anything about it how is the
[00:54:05] Donald was needed the Donald was absolutely repulsive he was at the absolute bottom of this game
[00:54:10] because he's putting on a terrible British accent and it was so inconsistent it was like
[00:54:16] he's not British he's Canadian yeah but he's kind of British too no he's not any British
[00:54:20] he's 100% Canadian and he has a 100% Donald Sutherland accent that is Canadian
[00:54:27] probably from Scarborough so yeah so he was terrible what else give me something else just tell me
[00:54:33] I just want to anything to ask me a question about this movie that you may not know
[00:54:42] I don't know come on just ask me one thing that's all I'm looking for yeah did you know
[00:54:46] that how were there a lot of laughs in it there was zero laughs it was too but it's it's a comedy
[00:54:51] there was no there was no comedy and there was no romance in fact a lot of people would say
[00:54:56] that's not even a rom-com it's more of an action adventure comedy yeah you know what how was the
[00:55:01] action action was actually not too bad there you go but you can't make a movie with just action
[00:55:09] which this didn't have just action if it just had just actually John Wick was just action yeah that's
[00:55:14] true you could but in the first blur Mad Max 3 Road was just actually that was pretty
[00:55:20] I think blade was it blade to that but not if you're trying to call it a rom-com yeah this was
[00:55:25] this was by far the most painful you know and just so everybody knows I absolutely love
[00:55:31] Matthew McConaughey now hey hey I love you all right all right all right all right all right
[00:55:37] I love the man now but back when he was a rom-com king this is this is by far the worst thing
[00:55:43] ever seen him yeah yeah so after after all that awful I can't figure out why it was called
[00:55:53] fool's gold was it cuz the gold was real or was it cuz this old fool was hoping to get gold from
[00:56:02] this movie but all I got was fool's gold from this movie is that why it was called fool's gold
[00:56:09] because it's kind of fooling you you think this movie's gonna be solid gold but really it was
[00:56:14] it was solid poop solid poop at the bottom of everybody's game it was your poop and at the end of
[00:56:23] your bottom yeah yeah this was really bad I know I hate you okay so let's look here we got
[00:56:30] in Casey's bag for for next week something tells me this is gonna be an awful remake what do you think
[00:56:38] uh spout 99%
[00:56:42] appreciate they're all on that what is it oh is it something exciting it's maybe something
[00:56:49] that we may not rage off but I'm not gonna say that for sure 1998's gojira gojira
[00:56:58] that's the Matthew broader one the one that almost ruined the franchise yes oh the one where
[00:57:04] they went to Madison Square Garden yeah yeah they had dinosaurs they were godzilla and they
[00:57:11] went on the ice and they slipped and slated yes I was told could it was adorable there's a little
[00:57:17] little baby godzilla yeah baby godzilla can you have got can you argue with baby godzilla
[00:57:21] I love baby godzilla it might be plus it could say the first time Casey gets it real plus
[00:57:27] I think it's got like a kill he's last standard something in the soundtrack for what's up one
[00:57:32] you know what this could be the best godzilla movie I don't know what Casey's talking about yeah no
[00:57:37] I am I'm I'm I'm excited I'm gonna put it up on the old big screen TV I'm gonna crank it
[00:57:45] and I'm gonna just let this movie wash over me I'm I remember not loving it yeah I kind of
[00:57:52] remember that too but I think I might have just not been a good frame of mind at the time maybe
[00:57:57] you just hadn't seen enough godzilla yet nowhere I watched it where I remember where I watched it
[00:58:02] I don't know why and it was it's you know it's not like a special cinema or anything but I I
[00:58:08] watched it at West Hills nice which is where we're watching a lot of our movies coming back when West
[00:58:13] Hills had kind of a bowl thing then now they've got stadium seating back then they didn't have
[00:58:18] stadium seating what time till trying to figure out how they did that because how do you go from that
[00:58:23] little weird bowl that it was very high ceiling I guess and then all of a sudden now you know what
[00:58:27] we we've had a lot of discussion on this podcast lately of either a magic B space magic or magical
[00:58:36] Negroes so I always think it was probably just magic cinema magic it was cinema magic all I can buy
[00:58:43] that yeah sure that makes sense okay good era good era plus I think you actually do get a
[00:58:49] sense of scene with an old guy going good to go to sure I'm almost positive if we if we don't yeah
[00:58:57] isn't John Reno in it John Reno I think I know I love John Reno who doesn't the professional man
[00:59:05] yeah the professional Leon yeah Liam he's done millions of things with Natalie Portman that was
[00:59:12] like her big breakthrough roll and she was awesome she was Oscar winning if it was asking me she
[00:59:18] was back to you are nice I'm gonna watch the professional do you know you know what it's going to be a
[00:59:26] John we Reno weekend I'm loading up on John Reno because lately he's not been making good stuff
