Welcome back ragers to the best movie review podcast on the planet. The rage rolls on from the Film Rage Studio.
This week the Film Rage Crew managed to get to three films. Lisa Frankenstein gets three different ratings from the boys. One loved it, one liked it and one thought it was basically unwatchable. Out of Darkness had a similar result as it also got three different ratings from The Crew. Then finally the boys found common ground as they were in agreement about the Daisy Ridley vehicle, Sometimes I Think About Dying. Then in the Rage or Dare segment Jim finally had to watch the film that had been festering in Bryce's Rage Bag for over a year, the 2011 debacle known as Beastly. Will Jim hate this as much as Bryce is hoping. Spoiler alert..... It makes him Rage.

[00:00:00] It's time to feel the rage. Welcome to film rage where we talk movies in theaters,
[00:00:12] streaming and call classic films as well. Directors and actors beware as you cannot
[00:00:17] hide from the rage. My name is Bryson. I'm part of the film rage crew, which also includes
[00:00:21] Jim. Hey there, Jim. Hey, hey, and movie. I don't know what you're talking about. But I'm looking forward to him being inside Ryan Reynolds. This all sounds like jibber jabber to me. Yep. Well, thanks to all of our support. If you love our independent podcast, please like, subscribe, share, and give us a five
[00:01:40] star rating on your listening platform or support us and join the FilmRage community
[00:01:43] by joining our membership at findmeacoffee. But maybe there'll be a great independent documentary. Sure. Call CMC at 403- saying that's why I told you last week the mondoed that. There's no freaking way. I hope he did. And you, there's no way in hell you would ever go above a mess. So I think he might have met that one.
[00:05:40] Alright, so we got a meh and a mondo prediction.
[00:05:43] Alright. And billions. Oh, she was a star. She must have made something. She made bucks. Now she has to work for a living. Yeah. Well, why would she have to work for a living if she's made billions? She must be doing this just for fun then. 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20, not sure what this film was. It wasn't scary, romantic, or funny, which is odd as it has been called a romantic horror comedy. What is it? I do not know. However, I do know that it was very boring.
[00:08:21] Really, really boring.
[00:08:24] Diablo Coie wrote this thing and I'm like,
[00:09:41] what the hell am I watching?
[00:09:43] Why aren't I falling asleep right now?
[00:09:45] Because this is awful.
[00:09:47] Awful. I was honestly surprised by this film. Based on the trailer, I thought it would be stupid. Like Bryce said it was. Like Bryce thinks it was. It was. I should have known better, based on the fact that it was written by Diablo Cody. Ooh, I love. Nearly all of her films have that sharp,
[00:11:00] biting wit and dark comedy. Until now.
[00:11:02] Shut up. Yeah, shut up. I swear I'm gonna at this film with my bestie Jim. A totally tubular cowabunga. Mondo!
[00:12:20] Nice.
[00:12:21] Mondo!
[00:12:22] He's owning that mondo Bryce.
[00:12:26] Right.
[00:12:27] Yeah.
[00:12:28] Alright. about actual science, just like you have to believe that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein could actually happen. Now also suspend any sense of reality, teenage coming of age plots, or anything that might seem real about a Frankenstein monster love story. This disturbing by the time we got to the end this was totally fucked up and I'm not gonna lie again I laughed a lot in this especially when our monster and I'm
[00:15:02] putting in heavy quotes here go shopping for his Franken weenie that's right I Now I never saw it. I don't want old movie price The total mesmerizing attention. Yes The monster and who is it the goddamn movie It's the mummy who's the mummy the hell's his name is Boris Carla. Thank you
[00:16:21] God
[00:17:23] I checked my mind at the door and suspended disbelief, which allowed me to laugh myself into this being a man.
[00:17:27] I didn't love it because there was a lot of problems
[00:17:31] I had with the story itself,
[00:17:33] but I did have a joyful adventure
[00:17:37] and I laughed a lot with my man, Murr.
[00:17:40] Other than Bonertown, there was nothing in this.
[00:17:42] There was so much funny in this.
[00:17:43] There was so much funny.
[00:17:44] Taffy was awesome.
[00:17:46] No.
[00:17:46] Taffy Taffy was dead yes deal the actual lightning like electric You call it again and he's no no I was at work. Yeah, I said hey man. Yeah, I was like I'm gonna leave cuz I want to go to a movie at 120 like I have to pay you know he's like I guess I was like cool. See ya And then I went to like the second worst movie of the year no well. No I like this movie
[00:20:21] It was awful. It was funny. It was so so so there After Murray gave it a 10 and I gave it a seven, it's now at a 6.5. Well, that's insane. Cause it was funny. It's a decent movie. What's it in Rotten Tomatoes? Like 12%? I only look at IMDb. That's all that matters. It's garbage. All right. Well, we went from that into another monster movie
[00:21:43] called Out of Darkness.
[00:21:46] Is that what I was about?
[00:21:47] Yes.
[00:21:48] Ish. forest, which they all know is a bad idea, but because some quote unquote monster or thing took out the leader's son, he decides to choose to chase after it. The suspense in this is fantastic. They, they really play the Hitchcock slash Jaws suspense card here, as we never really get to
[00:23:02] find out what our monster is till pretty much the very I'll be brief. What the hell was this about? Really? I think I slept through half of it,
[00:24:20] which is further proof I shouldn't do double features anymore.
[00:24:25] I had no clue what was going on apart from all the
[00:24:27] screeching and scary noises. chilling moments, but its predictability ultimately makes this 87 minute journey seem longer. And its final act reveal didn't do anything for me. I also don't really think that 45,000 years ago would have resulted in these characters being about tolerance and understanding, which seems to be the heavy handed message.
[00:25:43] It's a nice message, but and then they have in brackets wise men and then the Homo sapiens Prior to that is the neanderthal leanesses So the ones that were in the cave was that was that tribe and they were dying out and they they basically died out
[00:27:01] That's that's what happened to them because then human race or the Homo sapien wise men took over took over That was part of showing who her her her humanity was and also getting to see that you know what they maybe were not so different than you and I. Yeah, that was and that was I know that was a heavy-handed point they were trying to get home and I didn't buy it and I didn't like it. Yeah, I liked it a lot. I thought the ending was almost perfect. I know what it was still man. I don't a lot of it. That's why it's getting a man. This was their first directorial debut. It was decent. I would definitely go see something by whoever directed this again. Who directed it? I don't know.
[00:29:40] Andrew coming.
[00:29:41] Andrew.
[00:29:42] Hey Andrew, I'll go watch your next movie.
[00:29:43] I'll be very open-minded going into it because you did good.
[00:29:48] Just not great as well. No, I don't know what her last name is. It's just Fran. She thinks about dying from time to time. She also enjoys cottage cheese on toast. Or just cottage cheese by itself. For the first 20 minutes, Fran doesn't utter a word.
[00:31:01] Not one word. Nope.
[00:31:02] It's not like you.
[00:31:03] Yeah, it's kind of like you.
[00:31:03] She works in an office
[00:31:05] where she meets a newly hired Robert. Super Mondo. You were like, you're like, I was like took a while to sort of drag out of you a little bit. Yeah. Are you just like basking in the movies after GloZ? I'm still, I, I, this movie made me happy for like hours after I saw it. I was like, I was just so happy after I saw this movie. It was so, so good. Nice.
[00:32:20] Well, let me tell you what I thought about it.
[00:32:21] We'll have some more chit chat upon my expressionism. Mmm, mostly because he said he's never had a job before That came out of the blue, I was like what? It was one of the funniest scenes, I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that She slowly changes from the invisible lady who spends her days thinking about dying in random ways Like by snake or hanging from a crane or just decomposing in the sea or in the middle of a forest
[00:33:45] Just lame at the forest top of that, it had an absolutely perfect ending to a practically perfect film. Daisy Ridley may have been the, were in the worst trilogy of the star Wars franchise, but she is brilliant in this film. And our director, Rachel Lambert in this seems to understand
[00:35:01] how to take a character and not really change them at all, but allow them to come to life it seem like, because he says, what did you think of the movie? And she's like, I hated it. And he's like, he's like, he's like, as if like, without having any tone to his voice, he's like, this could possibly be my favorite movie, which he didn't mean in any way, shape or form. But he just said it because it was contrary to what she had. Like just the dialogue between those two, what's her head, Rachel Lambert's other movie. I haven't seen it, but not only- It's called, you can tell her the listeners. I do, it's called In the Radiant City, which I haven't seen. And the other thing is it's got Maren Ireland in it,
[00:37:40] who I just adore.
[00:37:43] So yeah, I gotta seek this sucker out and watch it.
[00:37:46] Well, maybe we should watch it together. by magic in Star Wars films so. Yeah but she was actually cast in those and that's all she did for like 10 years. That's all she did for 10 years. Since then I don't know what else she did after that. Daisy. Daisy, daisy. Are we done? Yep. Okay then. ["Ave Maria"]
[00:39:02] Ahem.
[00:39:08] Love. Uh, first up, Gone Girl. Yeah, I know, a Ben Affleck movie. Which means I'll never watch it. I put it on this list for Bryce. While I've never seen it, I hear Rosamund Pike gets naked and kills people.
[00:40:21] That almost makes me want to watch it, making it perfect for a romantic cynic. Again, never seen this one, but I heard it was pretty good. It is, a mondo. Yup. Uh, marriage story.
[00:41:40] Also, again, I never saw this.
[00:41:41] Ah, that was awesome.
[00:41:43] So good.
[00:41:44] I never saw this, but I lived it. unable to escape. There are plenty of sex scenes but for every romantic moment there are at least two more that are violent and unhinged. Hey look it's an ear. Much like Dennis Hopper. Heathers. Speaking of Monona Ryder, hands down my favorite movie of hers. Monona's Veronica Sawyer falls for the dark and mysterious JD, played by
[00:43:03] Christian Slater, and the couple soon go from faking suicides to straight-up But it's a decent horror movie. Anyway, happy freaking Valentine's Day. Nice. Temperature rising. Vision blurring.
[00:44:21] Rage taking over. Because every other day there's construction change in my neighborhood and today of all days again I missed my bus because I went to where I thought the bus was gonna stop and it did not stop there. I Had somebody walking by and said oh, you're not waiting for the blah blah blah number in on right now Yeah, I am he's like that's doesn't stop there today. I'm like what the hell
[00:45:40] It's waiting there ten minutes. I had no idea about your neighborhood. Yeah, there's a lot of fucking hate
[00:46:46] Yeah, you said you hated the bus so you're on my side. It's not for the same reasons. Just shut up and then let's move on
[00:46:49] Whatever. I'm hearing about this actually, because my rage this week was going to be that Bryce stood me up and forced Murray to have to have a double date with me. But then I had so much joy with having Murray there. I was like, whatever. Bryce can pretend he's sick. Well, my rage is having to sit through out of darkness because
[00:48:23] Bryce bailed on us.
[00:48:24] I was only going for the one movie.
[00:48:25] You don't get a rage.
[00:48:27] I do so had a uterus. It's all I'm saying
[00:49:41] Alright, so um
[00:49:44] beastly
[00:50:44] Or anybody that's part of the lead fuck nuts family
[00:50:54] Who's so full of himself but yet the story requires that they'd still do talk to him for whatever reason which nobody would
[00:50:56] well one does
[00:50:58] The other Mary Kate where who's a witch I guess and cast a spell on him by saying
[00:52:02] You're professional. Yet he never teaches him the tutor, and he doesn't go to school, so I was a little confused
[00:52:09] as to what happened to his high school diploma over that year.
[00:52:13] Oh well, the story about high school stopped making sense, so this must have changed direction
[00:52:19] to a love story.
[00:52:20] Didn't talk about high school anymore.
[00:52:22] It was a love story, or. I really wish it was longer. That was the only good thing. It's the only thing that I was like, Oh man, I know how awful this is, but it's only an hour and 26 minutes. Could they not have stretched this out a little longer? This is really, really, really bad. Like I know it's, it's, I saw, I saw it in theaters. I can't believe this is so Murray.
[00:53:43] This is so, so bad. It's so,
[00:54:43] He's got a whole bunch in here. There's a bags not empty. No, let's go to Murray We haven't bought it got a merman bag of rage here. Mer. Why don't you pull this out?
[00:54:46] Yeah, we got Casey's got stuff unless where did how do they magically get in there last time? I looked there was like
[00:54:53] one or two
[00:54:55] Now just for everybody so that you know
[00:54:57] We will not be having rager dare next week because unfortunately I'm traveling on business. So
[00:55:03] We might not even have me next week. Who watch for free. There's so much good to be to make this one I did this one might have been just top of my head kind of a thing Well, you know But the thing is is that Bryce should really not show his hands too much Because a lot of times we can pick some really oh, I know exactly who I hate It's not hard to pick movies the people that he hates. I
