[00:00:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Time to feel the rage!

[00:00:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, to a very special episode of the Calgary International Film Festival 1st Half,

[00:00:17] [SPEAKER_03]: 24 which is actually the 2015th anniversary of the Calgary International Film Festival.

[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.

[00:00:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Good news is that almost every single movie that we're going to talk about today has a follow-up screen

[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_03]: and later this week. We'll tell you all about that later in the episode.

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_03]: But we're just going to go over the best of the festival so far.

[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we sure are. And for those listening you can find everything,

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: SIF at sifcalgary.ca, which I think in a previous episode I said.com

[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: but apparently if you were in the dark, it still comes off.

[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: It will still come to .ca.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So that's, it's you know what?

[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what I like about internet is internet magic.

[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_02]: It's typing SIF and Google will show you the way.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Look, it's, it's the crazy.

[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's it.

[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_03]: What's it?

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_03]: What's it get on with the Calgary International Film Festival, Film Rage style.

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So just so everybody knows, we, Bryson I,

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: so he might have seen one more than me but my list shows that I saw 17 movies.

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Hmm.

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And actually to be quite honest, there is only,

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to say what the film is, but throughout the 17 movies,

[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_00]: there's only one film that I had that was arranged to me.

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I, of all the movies I saw, I didn't count mine but I would imagine it's either.

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Think of one more thing.

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah, I only had one rage as well.

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So Calgary International Film Festival is bringing it this year.

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally. And as a percentage of Mondos

[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: to me, for my numbers, it's, it's pretty high.

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, mine's going to be about the same because you got one Mondo that I don't.

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think we pretty much agree on rest of them on.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of them, yeah, for sure.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think you had one, I didn't see it.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_03]: One day you didn't see, yes.

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Alright, so my first Mondo, which surprised me significantly,

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: was the opening gala, the thicket.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I absolutely love this film.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Normally I do not like Westerns,

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: but when you have two Titans of the screen,

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: either end of the chase, you have a story worth watching.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Peter Dinklage is outstanding in this and,

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: and my, this is also my further pitch that I personally think

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_00]: that Julia Lewis is mesmerizing.

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I freaking love every single thing she's in.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And she is at her absolute best paying,

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: playing a woman that wants to be a man, I think.

[00:02:46] Maybe?

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that what the deal was, I don't know.

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, so this was a two-beatastic Mondo for me.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I was bald anyway.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Real.

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I might be short because I think they did sort of,

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_02]: it is will in me.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Bill.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, this, there's so much going on in this film,

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: but it is just a slow,

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: driven Western which again I don't like,

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: but I love the characters, I loved all the characters

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and I thought the characters were all well developed.

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_03]: It was, it was, it was good.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't great.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I really enjoyed the performances.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_03]: There's no question the performances were outstanding.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not from just those two leads, but from everybody in it.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And even Leedsinger Metallica James Hepfield makes.

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_03]: He's there as well and he was actually really quite good.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I was surprised by it,

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_03]: but I was happy that he was as good as he was in it.

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I enjoyed it, but yeah, it's a math for me.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you a Western fan?

[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not a Western fan.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_03]: What about you?

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_02]: My dad was a huge Western fan,

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_02]: you know, all those which he called saying great movie.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Dusters, things like that for everybody.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't like the, you know, Clint Eastwood and gone Wayne Westerns.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Some more modern ones, I mean, I like quicken the dead.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Who does it?

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like that.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I'm not a young gun.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, there's this select few I like.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_02]: But now it was okay.

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't, it wasn't a man,

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: but yeah, I think which was okay in it.

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_02]: I learned between Tyd's, which was on Friday,

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_02]: which is a Canadian one.

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_02]: It was a nice creepy thriller about this family.

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how to beat this in it,

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_02]: but all there was, oh, done all low.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_02]: It's awesome.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I had two girls and one disappears.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: It's in print prints, root birth.

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: All shot there was beautiful.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_02]: And she disappears and comes back.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_02]: And she's almost like she's different

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_02]: than jumps ahead 20 years.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's, yeah, it's just weird like time,

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_02]: time warp, time thing with this island.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_02]: It was really creepy.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I liked it.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: What was it called?

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, island between Tyd's.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: So this one is my absolute favorite film of the festival.

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It's called My Favorite Cake.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: An aging widow who's not afraid to stick up for herself

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and say what's right.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Falls in love after 30 years,

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_00]: this made me smile and I mean,

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: wholeheartedly smile through this entire movie.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And could be the greatest love story ever told

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: up until it became the saddest love story

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: that's ever been told.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_00]: This movie,

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I just kept going no matter what happens

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: in this movie by the time it got to the end.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, this could not be any better of a movie.

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And then it surprised me.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And it became a better movie than I thought it was going to be.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_03]: This was an amazing movie.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_03]: There was also Mondo for me.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_03]: My favorite cake is the best film of the festival.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I will be super, super pleased if something can out do it.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But I do not see it.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_03]: The performances are tremendous.

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_03]: The story is both uplifting and heartbreaking

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_03]: all at the same time.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I've never been,

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_03]: and the way that it ends is just so,

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_03]: you know,

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_03]: people go see this.

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll tell you at the end of the podcast.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_03]: We're going to tell you exactly when to see these movies coming up.

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_02]: On stopable.

[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Which has Jennifer Lopez and it produced by the

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_02]: aphics slash gaming group.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But in the Don Chatele place to coach.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Basically, it's a guy who I think was born with only one leg.

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if he was born with one or something to happen.

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_02]: But he only has one leg.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_02]: But he's an amateur wrestler and he's a damn good one.

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like championship in his high school basically.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_02]: He kicks the ass of basically guys with two legs.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_02]: So he wants to go to Arizona State University,

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_02]: but you can't get a full scholarship because they've passed them over.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_02]: So he walks onto the team.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Work twice as hard as anybody else and makes the team.

[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_02]: It becomes one of the nation's best wrestlers.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a real guy.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: And does he win at the end?

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Is it Rocky?

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Is it Rocky?

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Why do you want to Rocky too?

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's like a bind.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Basically he loses the same guy twice.

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Is it Rocky 3?

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Then he beats the guy.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's Rocky 3 then.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's kind of Rocky 3.

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_02]: It's Rocky 1 and Rocky 2.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Because he loses the guy.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: With a sprinkling of Rocky 3.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_02]: So the end of Rocky 1, he loses.

[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Rocky 2, he beats them.

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I mean, it's two of them.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: And ironically, some of the movie takes place in Philadelphia.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And this kid goes to the Rocky statue.

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Of course stands in the cement footprints of Stallone or whoever.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess there's a Rocky tie-in.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, of course it's the true story of this guy.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Basically he overcame the odds and his mom, he by Jennifer Lopez, has a douchebag of a husband.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Of course by Bobby Kenavali who has ever played a nice guy like series high.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_03]: He's high.

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_03]: He's growing the nicest guy that's ever been.

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but he likes to play dirt bags and he played a really good one this one.

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, so she's put up with Peter's dick.

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like six kids in like they're going to foreclose it in our house so she has to find a way.

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's inspiring all around.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so this one I know, Bryce and I did not agree on.

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But my favorite, maybe not the favorite animation, but flow.

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So in my opinion, some of the most beautifully animated scenery with possibly the worst detail for animation for our lead animals.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I think intentionally designed.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely done that.

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, as they are just representatives of their species and they come together and go with the flow to survive a flood together.

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Where every creature is cute and adorable.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And as all the things we know and love about these animals, I smiled and I laughed all the way through this film.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: It's so heartwarming.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you like animals in any way shape or form other than just eating them,

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_00]: this movie should be mongo for you.

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But forever, forever, reason.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I really, really enjoyed it.

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I really did.

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, I was not looking forward to seeing flow.

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I just wasn't because maybe it was because it was.

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I've well looked at the animation on the trailer and I was like, well, what the heck is this?

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_03]: But then when you watch the movie, there is a point to the animation.

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_03]: And the scenery behind these pixelated 32 bit looking characters that are in this.

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Ah, 64 bit.

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably more 64.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's like watching like animals that were made for a Nintendo 64 game.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But with the background of the most beautiful animation that you've ever seen.

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it was a very good movie.

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_03]: It was so much better than I thought going in.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I was pleasantly surprised.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that anybody that goes to this will really enjoy it.

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_03]: And you should absolutely see it.

[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, totally.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_03]: But it was a high-high map.

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_02]: It was a super-nose for runs again.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're going to have the whole list at the end, but they're a man.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: All right, now what do you got?

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: The next one is also a Mando.

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Excellent.

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_02]: It's called a different man.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_02]: The Sebastian Stan.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Sebastian Stan.

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_03]: What in the end was superhero movies?

[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_02]: He was one of those superhero guys.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And Jim was especially enjoyed this one because there's some mail nudity in this movie.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Nice.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_02]: You could be like, he was like, he's like, he's like an elephant man dude.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Who's, you know, he's got some in facial deformity.

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: And then there comes some kind of, I don't know if it's an engineer.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a nice show.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_03]: It's so pretty.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but this pill thing makes him pretty.

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02]: It's like that substance thing.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_02]: It's really like there's this first stand.

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_02]: And like, but as he becomes a beautiful man,

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_02]: his life gets worse.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Of course.

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Downward Spiron.

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Now that he's like this is hot, beautiful.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_02]: We don't get any of the breaks.

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_02]: We can't eat thought it would.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it's dark comedy.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_02]: It was funny and weird.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I love that he was creating it.

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Nice.

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Micro budget.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I really, really.

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Why did you shake in your head at Merman?

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a soft park.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like stupid horse.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's got kind of a dock footage feel of a micro budget.

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It's sci-fi movie.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_00]: With a ton.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And I mean a ton of cameo.

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So many cameos.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Delicious cameos.

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And the director.

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Real famous people.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, real fun.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a small budget.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody worked for SAG though.

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_03]: SAG minimum.

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_03]: That's 200 bucks a day baby.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I know.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_02]: He was two factors working for like 200.

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_02]: He said 200.

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_03]: That was in the Q and A afterwards.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_03]: They're like, so did everybody work for the minimum?

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_03]: They're like, yeah, they did.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The director in this is a complete idiot racist sexist, complete moron.

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I laughed all the way through this.

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a little sluggish in the middle.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I think.

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But then it was just so fun.

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_03]: But it's it is absolutely a monto.

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And then I laughed some more.

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_03]: It was just so much fun.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of ridiculous.

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you like those, you know, there's a lot of movies that are kind of made like this where you're making a movie about a movie right and a mockumentary.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I guess for lack of a better word.

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but yeah, this was just so well done.

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Did they actually talk about, because it was, was it the director or the writer that was there?

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_03]: The director was there who I believe also co-wrote the script.

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_03]: And the one of the producers was there.

[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Awesome. So did they say how much they made the film for someone else?

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Somebody might have and they might have said, and it was it was a darn wittle.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a micro budget.

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a micro budget.

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Nice.

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Secret mall apartment.

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_02]: This was produced by Jesse Eisenberg, but really isn't going to do with him.

[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_02]: It's about as much people in Providence, Rhode Island.

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Basically their neighbor who gets torn down to build this big ass mall.

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And they're all artists.

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_02]: They're struggling artists and just artists.

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I think a couple of more teachers.

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're wandering around them all.

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And they find this like hidden space in between the walls where they can actually hang out.

[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And they slowly start bringing furniture up this steep fire escape.

[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Like full couches and cabinets until they have an entire apartment and they hang out there.

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a real story.

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_02]: It was they have news clips and stuff.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The other animated film that made my Mando list is Grand Theft Hamlet.

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't say enough about how this is the most creative thing to come out of the pandemic.

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: We've seen a lot of movies that come out of the pandemic and they're all terrible.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're not terrible.

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: But there's a lot of stuff that you can tell it's pandemic-filmed.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_02]: This one because they were a masterful for getting movies.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Doing a doc inside the game Grand Theft.

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a headline universe of the doc.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_00]: About doing a live stage play inside GTA.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It was funny and creative and never seen anything like it.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't believe that somebody hadn't done it up until this point.

[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I love this film is so good.

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Grand Theft Hamlet is such a creative film.

[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It is like nothing I've ever seen before.

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I can't believe that you could make a movie with within the video game.

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And just basically you're just seeing screenshots of them doing whatever.

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Doing whatever in Grand Theft Hamlet.

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Putting together putting together a way trying to get people in on it.

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, if you play the game, there's other characters like cars driving by.

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_02]: There's people interact with you.

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's why they had to get people to do security so that they had kept other people away from the performance.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: So they had to come with scenarios where they would be by the calls on the top of the movie characters as security guards.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so there was so well done.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of the wasn't a good actor.

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't feel he was a good actor.

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_00]: But he came to all their practices to protect people because they'd be like recording.

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden some would come along and try to kill them.

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, what the game is all about?

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I've never played the game so I don't know if whether it's easy to get back to the place that you were murdered at.

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_03]: But creative really worth seeing Grand Theft Hamlet check it out.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Definitely worth seeing, especially if you're a gamer.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, not a gamer and I love that.

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, all right. The last one is probably a Mondo.

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: If I'd seen the whole thing it probably would have been.

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's all about it.

[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm still going to talk about it.

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Nice.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_02]: It's the outrun.

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_02]: There's R.C. Rowan.

[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_02]: She plays alcoholic recovering and then not recovering.

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_02]: She's a mean blackout drunk.

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_02]: When she drinks, she does stupid things.

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she does remember what she did the morning after.

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Then she goes to A.A. and recovers for a while and then she, you know, goes to her drinking again.

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_02]: It's shot in Scotland some of it.

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_02]: It's really beautiful.

[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_02]: To the story jumps around quite a bit between Scotland and back in London where her mother lives and where she does all her drinking and party.

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_02]: She's I want to say marine biologists or biologists and some kind.

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_02]: But she it's an amazing performance by her.

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_02]: It's just I went to see it on the Sunday morning and it was just it really intense.

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_02]: So I just he couldn't take the entire day to our ride.

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_02]: But I was there for most of it, but yeah it was really good.

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it runs again, but.

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Sorry what's it called?

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_02]: He outrun.

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, run.

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably doesn't run again.

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Murray outrun.

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It outruns me.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_00]: There you go.

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Outrun is also a game by the way.

[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh.

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Is do you have to get drunk and no you drive a Ferrari on the roof?

[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well it's like a racing game.

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: That sounds like a terrible movie.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_02]: That was awesome.

[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_00]: But the movie the outrun is not about driving.

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I've heard it's one of the best drinkers.

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_02]: So if you see it, you probably will think of the Mondeau.

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we probably probably will.

[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It's probably coming out.

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_03]: You'll be pleased to know what is playing again.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_00]: There you go.

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Family therapy.

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_00]: A family.

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_00]: That from the beginning of the film to the end went from a family not aligned to the end by random acts.

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to call them random acts of family and a significant amount of absurdity got through their therapy.

[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I had no idea what was going to happen next in this film, which made me love it even more.

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_00]: There is a bunch.

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It is dead, dead, dead, dead, dry humor.

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It is one of those ones that you'll be thinking about for years to come this film.

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Family therapy was just excellent.

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It kind of sneaks up on you.

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_03]: It starts and it's funny right off the bat.

[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And then it actually just keeps on getting better from there.

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_03]: By the end of this movie I was like wow, that was an experience.

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I absolutely adored this movie.

[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody in it was fantastic.

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Family therapy is so, so worth checking out.

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And the characters are so well defined.

[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like un-devitably.

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The basically it's about this boy who was from the father's previous escapades and comes to live with them.

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And getting to know each other at the same time, you know them coming together in a new location.

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Because he's relocated, he wants to change his career path and it's just it's wacky but not wacky in the sense that,

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, wack could do like say something like the substance.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's wacky in the sense that the characters are a little quirky.

[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_03]: They are definitely quirky and I guess it's an Italian Croatian Norway.

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Serbian Slovenia production.

[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_00]: My last motto is from Black Dog.

[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: An ex-con returns home after his sentence for manslaughter to a town that is dying and finds solace and forgiveness from himself and the world in a black dog thought to be rabbit.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And infested, bad dog.

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_00]: This is so, so, so beautifully shot.

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_00]: They talk about it being aside or close to the Goldbe Desert.

[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a time period piece because it takes place in 2008 just before the Olympics in Beijing.

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And this film is a ride.

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It is the lead actor in this is fantastic.

[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_00]: The dog is fantastic.

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it's a feast for the eyes and the senses I would say.

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's just we're talking with someone else afterwards, one of the Adam programer there at the, at the, at the, at CIF.

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_03]: and he was mentioning just the staging.

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_03]: And it was just, there is some unbelievable scenes

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_03]: where the dog is drunk falls over.

[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_03]: The cargo's like, there was just so much

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_03]: that had to be perfect.

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, how they feel?

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_03]: And they just pull it off every time.

[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_03]: It is an amazing feat in cinema.

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_03]: So what to, and we're not talking,

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_03]: and I just was amazed by the grand scope

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_03]: of what they achieved in this movie.

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_00]: It was even throwing, like as much as it's visually brilliant.

[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_00]: They also throw in a solar eclipse

[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_00]: just for fun as well.

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_00]: In the desert.

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So.

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it is so, so, so good.

[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I just loved this movie.

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_03]: It was Mondeau.

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_03]: One movie that I saw that you didn't

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_03]: was the super boys of Malagon.

[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_03]: This is just, it's a movie that you start watching it

[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_03]: and by the end of it, I was just so, so invested

[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_03]: in the characters that everything that happens

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_03]: to them you care about.

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_03]: It's basically the movie of a small town

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_03]: that makes movies about there,

[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_03]: that are told from the point of view of their town.

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's not a big, they're in India.

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not big, Bollywood productions,

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_03]: but they're still very, you know,

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_03]: they're good filmmakers, they got good writers.

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_03]: It also has one character in it

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: that by the end of it, the tears will be flowing.

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_03]: This also has a documentary that's been made about it.

[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I haven't seen it yet,

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_03]: but I'm definitely going to.

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we started watching it actually between films.

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the movie's a lot, it's a lot of fun.

[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_03]: And you just got to see super boys of Malagon.

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: It's such a good movie.

[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_03]: It's two hours of enjoyment.

[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the dock that we kind of started watching

[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_00]: in between films, the first scene of the dock

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_00]: is showing what it's like in this town

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_00]: when the movie comes out.

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like people are climbing over fences.

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Like if we think our love of movies is passionate,

[00:23:34] [SPEAKER_00]: this town seems to be the town,

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, and maybe because they only have

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_00]: so many seats in the movie theater,

[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_00]: though everybody's fighting to get it.

[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow, I mean, we've been to movies here

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_03]: where it's an event if it's a Hindi movie

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_03]: and they all come out, they have a good time at the movie.

[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, totally.

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It's, yeah.

[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, no.

[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Spiring for the rest of the world actually.

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the other movie that didn't quite make it

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_03]: to a Mondo for you because I think you slept

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_03]: through part of it.

[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_03]: It's Pierce, which is a Poland Singapore Singapore Taiwan

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_03]: co-production, the primary language

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_03]: and it is Chinese Mandarin Chinese.

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_03]: It is just a movie about these two brothers.

[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_03]: One may or may not have done something really bad in the past.

[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_03]: The other one and he goes away for a while,

[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_03]: he comes back and it's just the connection between these two

[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's such a powerful movie.

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I really enjoyed the arc of both of these characters.

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got kind of a bonkers ending.

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_03]: It's worth the wait.

[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_03]: The wait for the, the ending's great,

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_03]: but just that the, the slow build of the story

[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_03]: and the trust that has to be reconnected between these two,

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_03]: it's just so well done, beautifully filmed.

[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, if you get a chance to see Pierce,

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_03]: it will also be playing later in the week.

[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_03]: So we'll talk about that real soon here in fact.

[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe even now or we are actually just about to talk

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_00]: about that.

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So for all these movies,

[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_03]: the only one that we've talked about

[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_03]: was just that does not have a second show.

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Second showing is the thicket,

[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_03]: but I would imagine that that's gonna be coming to you.

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And then you're gonna open the US, there it is.

[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_03]: And it already opened in the US like two weeks ago

[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_03]: according to Murray.

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, super boy, I'm Malagon.

[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_03]: So by Wednesday, September 25th at 6 p.m.

[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It is playing at the globe up if you are in Calgary,

[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_03]: go check that out.

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, depending on where you listen to this podcast,

[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_03]: you'll listen to it right away.

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_03]: You can get in real quick.

[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_03]: My favorite cake is playing Thursday.

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_03]: That would be the 26th at 7 p.m.

[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_03]: at Chinook Center.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_03]: We also have unstoppable,

[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Merman,

[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Z recommendation, also playing at Chinook.

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Thursday, September 26th at 615 p.m.

[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Then we've also got a different man,

[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_03]: also playing Thursday,

[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_03]: September 26th at 9 p.m.

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And they are all at Chinook.

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Merman, double ch-

[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_03]: You can do a Merman double ch-

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_03]: feature at Chinook that day.

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Then from there we've got Grand Theft Hamlet.

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_03]: It is playing Friday, September 27th at 615 globe down.

[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_03]: We've got Family Therapy,

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Also at Chinook.

[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_03]: And then on Saturday we've got some showings as well

[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_03]: of the movies that we reviewed.

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Flow animated movie that Jim absolutely adored.
