[00:00:17] Greetings and thank you for tuning in to Drea’s Point of View. I am your hostess, Dreya. And in the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. So please make sure that you are following the show at Dreas Point of View on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. You can also follow at Dreapoint on X.
[00:00:35] So I was on Instagram and I saw an article that talked about a new personality type that psychologists started called Outrovert. And I thought I would share some of those traits with you.
[00:01:04] So the first thing that they said describing an Outrovert is that they like people, but in doses. They can be social for a minute and even talkative, but after a while they need their quiet time and start to feel drained.
[00:01:34] That is something that I can relate to because I've never really been the extroverted person. And I find the older I get, the less I really want to be around people for long periods of time. I enjoy my peace. So I can definitely relate to that. They choose interactions and they don't chase them. So they don't just talk just to be talking.
[00:02:05] It's usually an intentional conversation and meaningful. I try to have that, but I find that many people are talkers and they're really big on small talk. They need space after spending time with others. Even the conversations that they enjoy can become exhausting.
[00:02:30] Their alone time helps them get their thoughts together and recharge their energy. I'm around people often. And I definitely prefer my time alone, even after I meet someone. This type of personality tends to open up quickly and withdraw just as quick.
[00:02:59] They can be passionate and deeply engaged. But once their energy drops, they can become quiet. They protect their energy without explaining it. They may cancel plans or leave early without explanation. Now, I've canceled plans.
[00:03:23] Not so much with other people, but I just plan on going somewhere on a certain day. And that's part of the reason why I just prefer to buy tickets to events the day of. Be it a concert or a movie. Because I don't know how I'm going to feel that day.
[00:03:49] Another trait is they are comfortable being misunderstood. They accept that not everyone will understand their style. They thrive in short social bursts. They can be fun and present. But they can't keep that energy for long without getting rest.
[00:04:19] They value quality over quantity. A few meaningful relationships are more important to them than having a large circle. They would rather have one real connection than 100 small ones. And I find myself to be that person. I don't really need to have as many friends to talk to as I used to. I'm good with just a handful.
[00:04:50] They trust their own company. They don't need constant validation from someone else. And they're comfortable alone. And that definitely describes me. I'm not really one to follow the crowd. I always have to be around someone. No.
[00:05:17] Give me my alone time any day. And they're not afraid of silence. It doesn't make them uncomfortable. They find more clarity in those quiet moments than conversations. I love silence. Not so much elevator silence. Because silence can be loud.
[00:05:46] But on the average, I'm okay with not talking. No noise. It's actually kind of calming. And they don't follow the crowd. They're comfortable walking their own path. And they would rather be real and misunderstood than being someone that they are not.
[00:06:14] Another trait is that they are observers in social settings. That makes them good at reading people. I'm definitely a big observer. They're also often misunderstood. Some people see them as extroverts. Others see them as distant.
[00:06:40] When they're simply just managing their energy. And they don't like forced or surface-level interactions. Small talk becomes exhausting. And they prefer conversations that are meaningful. And I've always said that I'm not really one for small talk. And trips. An example is, there's a trip that's coming up next year.
[00:07:09] And I haven't spoken to some of the people who are going in years. We all have each other's contact information. And the way I see it, if I wanted to contact these people, I would have done so by now. I can't just imagine waking up after years of not speaking to someone and saying, Hey, you know, I wonder what so-and-so is doing. It's a two-way street. I'm just not a fan of forced interactions just because we belong to a same group.
[00:07:38] Yeah, that's not my jam. Feel free to review this episode. Tell me what you think. Can you relate to being an altrovert? TheDrea'sPointofView.com Also, feel free to subscribe to my free weekly newsletter.
