Episode 654: Conceet Notes

[00:00:29] Greetings and welcome to Dreas Point of View. I am your hostess, Dreya, and in the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. [00:00:49] So after the Jay-Z weekend, I had to give my two cents. Now I did not attend. However, I did watch the lives. I was off all weekend. I had no desire. I love Jay-Z. Seen him before, plan to see him again. But I have no desire to see him at Yankee Stadium. I've never been. I just didn't want to go to Yankee Stadium. I don't do open domes. I don't do the Bronx.

[00:01:16] That's me. So I did, however, catch the live performances. And I honestly, I don't regret it. One bit. But I did take a look at the post during the shows because, you know, with who started on time. They didn't start on time.

[00:01:42] And it just made me think about my concert experience and want to really talk about that. The things that we tolerate going to concerts. And I wanted to say, if it were me type deal, what I would have done and how I plan to move going forward. Because it's a learning experience, learning what these people went through, especially night three.

[00:02:08] I guess there was a lot of chaos trying to get in. A lot of people didn't get in for hours. Someone tried to rush the gates. Someone brought a gun. There was a lot of passing out. And so much chaos. It didn't start till after midnight. Now, being an Essence Festival veteran, I know how it is going to a concert. Well, not going to, but a concert starting after midnight.

[00:02:33] You're there all night from other concerts. So you choose to stay or go by the headliner starting around midnight, which is what happened here. People were seated for hours or standing outside for hours.

[00:02:51] And you choose, well, if you were in, I was told you couldn't leave. If you were out, you couldn't really get in. Which is why I choose to get to concerts an hour early. An hour, either when the doors open or an hour before the concert starts. I'm an early bird. That's how I do. And that's how I would do going forward after reading what happened at his show.

[00:03:21] So, and, you know, I'm reading about who got what. Now, every night was named after one of his albums. So that's basically what he performed. And he brought out special guests the whole weekend. First night one was he brought out his family, which makes sense. Family first, right? He brought out his daughter, Blue Ivy, brought out Beyonce. That set the tone because all weekend people were like, I hope I get Beyonce. I hope I get Beyonce.

[00:03:49] Night two was cut short. It started at 9-11 because that's the night that he, I guess, premiered a Blueprint album. And that's, night was cut short. Started, you know, 9-11 was, he was dedicated to, you know, of course, the victims of 9-11.

[00:04:13] But the night itself was very short. I'm like, I would have been upset, not so who he didn't bring out, because I paid to see him, but because of how short it was. So, I do feel that they really got the short end of the stick. But night three, to me, everybody's saying was the best because of the people that he brought out. To me, that was the worst, because I'm not for waiting. I would have left. Okay, there's no, I don't know how long I would have waited, but I'm not one to stand in lines.

[00:04:43] I cannot stand that. I'm getting to that point in that age where I don't stand in lines long, especially in that heat, people passing out. No, thank you. I would have went back to my hotel watching the lives on the way there. So, that's a choice. I'm reading a lot of stuff about how people have no regrets. One guy paid $2,000 just sitting in nosebleeds. That's out of desperation, clearly.

[00:05:11] A lot of people are getting their money back because of the delay, as they should. I'm glad they made that right, because that's insane. One lady left at, what, 11.45, and the show started around 12.15 or so. I told her to watch the lives. She had to get back to her son. A lot of people had public transportation they didn't want to miss out on because I can't imagine people driving.

[00:05:39] You know, I know people do, but I can't imagine that big crowd driving. Everybody was on the train. I would have been one of those people. And New York trains just don't really do it for me either, but we're not talking about that. My thing is what they learned from her. A lot of people said they would do it all over again because I guess he's going to come back to New York. He's going to do it again. He's coming back to Yankee Stadium next year, and they would do it all over again.

[00:06:08] Okay. That's what they, you know, we all tolerate different things. I, after going through that, if I would have gone through that, would not. I would have gone in the first place like I didn't, but I definitely wouldn't go through that again. Some people would. Okay. Also, are you one to leave early? The few times I have left early, I've always missed out on something.

[00:06:33] So I would have stayed, I don't know, if I had gotten in, okay, I would have been in because I would have gotten there early. But if I attended night three, I would have stayed. I would have slept if I were inside. I would have slept until it started. I would have stayed. Okay. But I'm also one to be off the next day after a concert.

[00:06:59] So that part wouldn't affect me too much. A lot of people, they went straight to their hotel, then went straight to the airport. You know, the things you'll do to see someone because people travel. He's going to be in London, in Paris, and in L.A. Okay. I'm in L.A., so I do intend on going to that. So Fy doesn't really play those games with that kind of stuff.

[00:07:25] Now, if they did, I probably would have left too. Because like I said, I have my limits. I don't care. Money spent, I would have watched the live. But I'm getting to that point of just not going to the stadium concerts. I think I will say this will be the last year of me going to stadium concerts because there's just so much madness involved in it.

[00:07:48] It's never a calming process. It's not for those who have anxiety. It's not for those of us who are somewhat introverted. Because I've noticed the older I get, the less I really want to be in big crowds. Yet, I force myself to go to enjoy something, but I don't really enjoy it. I'm just there. I would honestly rather watch the live. But there's still, I haven't seen Bruno Mars yet.

[00:08:17] I got to see him. And then that's it. But then, I don't know, because I'm still going to want to go to games. Right? Games aren't stadiums. But it's a little different, though. Game crowds are just a little different. It's just so, concerts are just, they're just not like they used to be, but nothing is, right?

[00:08:44] So, I guess this episode really is what would you tolerate going to concerts? What is your boundary? What is a no-go for you? Would you have left? How long would you have stayed if you were outside? Would you have gone in the first place or just did like me and watched the live? What is your breaking point? What is your tolerance level for concerts? Some people went all three nights.

[00:09:16] They're blessed to do that because those tickets weren't cheap. Some went two, some went one, and they're complaining about, you know, I got this. And like somebody said, it's just like saying, Sally got ice cream and I got cake. Okay, but you paid for the cake, though, right? Ice cream and cherries are bonus. So, there'll always be that. But, yeah, I definitely have boundaries when it comes to time.

[00:09:42] Now, the time a concert ends, like I said, I've stayed till the end. Essence Fest, I've stayed till the end. The headliners don't start till around midnight. I'm leaving around two. That's, it's always a choice. But I, but the difference with that is I could walk to my hotel. I'm not taking public transportation or somebody's ride share. So, that's a little different. When it's convenient, you don't mind it. You know, I guess people who are natives, they stuck it out.

[00:10:11] The transplants left, understandably so. So, you know, if you have flights to catch and then sleep should be prioritized too. But you can sleep on a plane. So, yeah, what is your concert tolerance level? Because this will definitely be a show, a concert that none of us will forget, even though we didn't attend.
