[00:00:00] Allow me to welcome you to my show. This is Dreas Point of View and I am your hostess, Dreya.
[00:00:06] In the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about.
[00:00:11] So make sure that you're following me on IG, Pinterest, Threads, and Facebook at Dreas Point of View,
[00:00:18] and on Exxon Spill at Dreas Point. You can also follow me on bluesky at dreaspointofview.bluesky.social.
[00:00:27] So I would be remiss if I didn't talk about a topic that has been very popular this year on the socials and that is homecoming.
[00:00:43] Homecoming is a family reunion that happens usually in the fall at historically Black colleges.
[00:00:52] Homecoming is a family reunion. I was lucky and blessed to be able to attend one, Alabama A&M University.
[00:01:01] And it was definitely a time. What inspired me to go to one was a different world.
[00:01:11] Grew up on that show, admired it so much. And I wanted to get far away from home.
[00:01:19] so since I had family in the south I was like okay why not and it was interesting too because
[00:01:28] I met so many people from all over the world people from Alaska the Caribbean and it's so funny when
[00:01:35] you tell people that you went there they're like really how was that being that I grew up upstate
[00:01:43] New York and it was pretty much like living in any other place people lived from all over were
[00:01:50] therefore a common goal to get an education a good time was had a great support system but every
[00:01:56] year we looked forward to homecoming where everyone would get together alumni and current students we
[00:02:07] would get dressed up we would go to the big game that was a big event the big game it's usually
[00:02:13] consists of a weekend at the beginning it consisted of a weekend of events and that Saturday was our
[00:02:25] team playing against another team and then you would be half you would watch halftime which would be
[00:02:32] the battle of the bands and you would see the dancers and it was just such positive vibes you'd see people
[00:02:41] you hadn't seen in a while after a while after year after year it gets bigger and it gets better and
[00:02:47] then of course there is the tailgate where you really see everyone you haven't seen in a while you take a
[00:02:53] bunch of pictures you post and then you wait to come back the next year now as the years progressed it
[00:03:00] changed a bit people don't really get dressed up as much like we used to well that's most places really but
[00:03:06] we don't really plan that outfit now we usually wear our school colors with something alumni on it which
[00:03:13] is just as good but usually hot that weekend too so a t-shirt and some jeans is just fine but they also
[00:03:24] made it bigger it's more like a whole week of events which i don't really like because those of us
[00:03:30] who don't live locally we miss out on a lot like i know they normally have concerts they have get
[00:03:38] togethers on campus they have get togethers with the alumni off campus it's a whole week full of parties
[00:03:45] they have everything there's something for everyone and like i said it's such a good time but as you can
[00:03:53] imagine as the enrollment increases so does the traffic and this year was really a bit much for me it
[00:04:00] was it was actually the first time i've gone where i had to be take a shuttle to park off campus it was
[00:04:10] hard i couldn't even catch the parade and because finding a parking spot was insane and yeah it so you
[00:04:19] have to really deal with that but it was really you could expect to see people that you haven't seen
[00:04:26] in a long time and like i said it's just such a good time now i haven't been to anyone else's homecoming
[00:04:35] i've just seen clips and heard stories from my friends but if you have not gone to a
[00:04:42] sort of way back college you must go to someone's homecoming you have to go you you just have to do a day
[00:04:49] trip or two days actually because that day trip is i don't know kind of exhausting take a weekend go to
[00:04:59] someone's college in the fall it starts in september to november i believe and just have a good time
[00:05:07] trust me it's you'll fit you'll fit right in if you like reunions and it's not like a class reunion
[00:05:16] it's not like oh we just get together in a room and we may have a picnic yeah no it's it's it's bigger
[00:05:23] and it's much better than that i'm curious to know if pwis have that i just hear about historically
[00:05:33] back colleges having their homecoming i don't know about anyone else so if you have had one

[00:06:11] and i do like kfc but i don't know how that's i don't know if i'll be
