[00:00:14] Allow me to welcome you to Dreas Point of View. I am your host, Drea. In the next 10 minutes or less, I will be offering you my perspective on a topic that I feel passionate about. [00:00:43] So many go for broke this time of year, while others break the bank for a gift. Every year I hear the stories about what people do. Many wait until the last minute to shop. Something comes up and they wind up not doing anything.

[00:01:00] I came across a post on IG from Beth's Budget Diary and she gave 20 ideas for spending Christmas with loved ones on a budget. I thought I would share some of those ideas with you.

[00:01:15] One thing you can do is have a Christmas movie marathon. Now I do live for a good Christmas movie and think this is a cute idea. You can drink some hot chocolate together and experience that quality time.

[00:01:30] The next thing on the list is to bake cookies. That's always fun. I know I would spend most of my time eating the cookie dough.

[00:01:42] Depending on where you live, you can go on winter walks. I love to watch people go ice skating. I usually see kids or couples go and it doesn't cost much. So that may be an idea for you.

[00:02:01] Decorating the tree is always a good time. I used to love doing that with my parents coming up. I would make sure to be the one to put the angel on top. We don't really use stars.

[00:02:14] Having a quiz or trivia night can also be fun. You can even throw in a deck of cards. There are plenty of card games out there.

[00:02:23] Take Polaroid pictures for memories. I know that's dating and aging myself. Many of you know what a Polaroid is.

[00:02:35] Make a time capsule for next year. That's a good one.

[00:02:42] Make your own ornaments. I remember as a kid, construction paper was my friend.

[00:02:47] I made a chain of different colored paper and would bring it home to wrap around the tree.

[00:02:54] You can go karaoke or caroling. I don't know of too many people that go caroling.

[00:03:01] Or I've just never lived in those neighborhoods where they do that.

[00:03:03] So karaoke at home is always a good time.

[00:03:07] In seasons past, I've given my ideas for good gifts that won't break the bank.

[00:03:12] And this year will be no different.

[00:03:14] I suggest going to Five Below and either get a fleece blanket, some artist brushes, a board or card game, a book, or even something from Groupon.

[00:03:32] I don't know why people insist on spending a lot of money when you don't have to spend a lot of money to give a good gift.

[00:03:41] What are some things that you do with your family when you're on a budget?

[00:03:48] I would love to hear your suggestions at Drea's Point of View at Yahoo.com.

[00:03:54] My positive news story of the day comes from a Black-owned gift wrapping company.

[00:04:00] Andean Miller Marbley partnered with Sam's Club to create Mom Melanin.

[00:04:05] It's the first gift wrap up its kind representing a Black person and will be available in seven states and on Sam's Club website.

[00:04:15] This opportunity allows us to connect with communities nationwide, bringing representation to the holiday season,

[00:04:21] and encouraging everyone to wrap their gifts with cultural significance, she says.

[00:04:25] Congratulations to her.

[00:04:28] So if you need to buy gift wrap, make sure that you head over to Sam's Club.
