[00:00:30] So, if you are a loyal listener then you should remember an episode that I did. I believe it's my first season about tipping.
[00:00:59] I feel about tipping. Who you should tip. I need to revisit the topic about tipping because I really think it's gone a little bit overboard.
[00:01:10] Now, I'm speaking from someone who tips.
[00:01:14] But it's now, it's really a bit excessive and I wanted to talk about it because I've had a couple of situations if you will happen recently that I wanted to share with you.
[00:01:30] I am Dreas, the hostess of this short form podcast, Dreas Point of View. I wanted to thank you so much for tuning in.
[00:01:36] Be sure to follow me on the socials. You can find me in Dreas Point, an ex and spill and Dreas Point of View on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, the Reds and Clubhouse.
[00:01:47] Also please subscribe to that show so you don't miss any of my multiple episodes I have for you each week and I want you to subscribe to my free weekly newsletter that I've got.
[00:01:57] That comes out on Saturdays. Let you know about my upcoming episodes for the week, any podcast events coming up as well as my podcast recommendations.
[00:02:05] So let's get into it.
[00:02:09] I recently went to a restaurant slash...well no. A bar lounge and everything was fine.
[00:02:23] You know, service was fine. I sat at the bar. Food was great. So they were deserving of their tip and I get the check and there's a huge service fee.
[00:02:34] I didn't know. I've never seen it written like that and I travel. I've never seen service fee. I've seen virtuity but I've never seen service fee.
[00:02:42] And it was loud at that point. There was a live entertainment. The guy was busy so I didn't ask him. Instead I asked the lady who sat next to me what that service fee was and she couldn't really explain it but she was like, we still tip on top of that.
[00:02:59] And I don't mind tipping but what is this fee?
[00:03:04] So I emailed the manager and was told that that is their tip. So I'm glad I tip what I did which is what I normally tip.
[00:03:17] I gave them something but not what I would normally give especially since I'm already being charged. That took into what I was going to tip really.
[00:03:27] So that's there's that question. Do you tip when you see virtuity already added to your bill?
[00:03:43] There are a few places that do have that. I don't go to many but I don't mind because it's normally what I want to tip anyway. I might give $1 or 2 extra depending on the service.
[00:03:56] Fine, whatever but I do understand why people don't like it because what if they get crap service and their force to tip it should be optional.
[00:04:07] So I understand that but I, everything would have to be horrible in order for me not to tip.
[00:04:14] You know the food, the service, the place itself like I would really have to be treated like a dog.
[00:04:20] Well no people treat dogs well. I would really have to be treated less than human to not leave a tip.
[00:04:29] But how do you feel about that? Do you, I mean, is that your thing normal, is that your nature to tip on top of a tip.
[00:04:41] There are times when you go up to a cash register to get something and they want a tip.
[00:04:49] Okay, and that's excessive. Where was I the other day where they asked for that?
[00:04:56] There are a lot of places, especially in airports. They want you to tip and I say no tip before you even get to paying.
[00:05:06] I know that part I never tip. I'm taking something to go. Never do I ever tip. That part I will not do.
[00:05:14] If I'm sitting there, I will. Like Esa Reis place restaurant. She has it where you order your meal, you tip and you know you could either eat there or take it to go.
[00:05:31] I ate there that day so I tipped but it was weird though because there was no server.
[00:05:37] You know, they don't have servers at that location. It was just someone to take your stuff from you when you're done.
[00:05:44] So it was kind of weird knowing that. I don't know but knowing me, I probably still will tip something.
[00:05:54] The bare minimum but I'll still give something. Especially being a server. I know how it feels to be stiff from a tip.
[00:06:02] But it's like everyone wants a tip. I go to different places and they'll have that tip jar or they'll say feel free to tip.
[00:06:15] I remember when I went to what was it? I'm trying to remember. I believe it was a fashion show.
[00:06:27] Okay, as a formal model they have makeup artist sometime at these events. And sometimes they request a tip. I remember this lady requested I always bring money anyway with me when I go to fashion shows because you're going to spend money on something but I was actually in the fashion show and you know she brought it up about it and I gave her something she deserved it.
[00:06:55] I mean makeup artists they really just do the brunt of their work to me. I mean they're working on different faces and they barely have time to eat and they're under time constraints.
[00:07:08] To me, they're the friendliest people in the show but it wouldn't hurt to throw them a couple of dollars but that's optional.
[00:07:16] Just being forced to give a tip. I don't really like that idea and it's just you know US thing. I've seen post online about people in other countries saying oh that's just a US thing they don't really tip anywhere else.
[00:07:30] You know, I remember that time in Japan where I tipped and the lady ran out after me to get me my money back but it's yeah let me know.
[00:07:41] No, Dre's point of view at Yahoo.com what your thoughts are about tipping when gratuity is included.
[00:07:51] I went to a comedy club recently and someone they were okay that's another thing. They require a minimum amount for you to purchase two drink minimum or two item minimum or just flat $10 sitting fee.
[00:08:10] And I know a lot of people were upset about that. I mean, I don't know I don't have a problem with that. I'm not going to go there and have nothing for a few hours.
[00:08:25] So that's not an issue for me. It was for some people. I don't know. I mean if I've never heard it before then it would probably be an issue but I hear about that wherever I go.
[00:08:35] You have to pay something. You can't just come off the street and just enjoy a free show and just up and leave.
[00:08:47] You have to purchase something. You have to price of admission basically.
[00:08:53] So yeah those are those are my thoughts. Has the tipping culture gone rogue? Isn't too much. Please let me know I love your responses and you can leave a review as well on my website, thedraestpointofview.com
[00:09:11] As always, I thank you for listening.
