[00:00:06] So those of you who have been listening to me for a while know that I'm a huge NBA fan. I go to some games, I don't have a favorite team because I like players and players switch teams all the time.
[00:00:24] But I do have my favorites and I just like the game overall. If there's a game on for the most part, I'm going to watch it. And if I'm in town for that, I'm going to attend.
[00:00:34] And that includes the NBA all star game, which is an annual event every February and this year.
[00:00:42] I thought I would talk about it. No, I did not go, but I did get a chance to see some of the activities and that's what I wanted to discuss with you today.

[00:01:10] So I got a chance to catch most not all of the activities and I look forward to it every year. It was in Indianapolis this year. No desire to go to Indy. And I enjoyed parts of it. I did.
[00:01:30] But then there was a lot of talk about the game itself, which I'll get to in a minute. So they have different activities, different events.
[00:01:38] Okay, so those of you who are unfamiliar with it, we the fans, we vote for who we want to see play in the actual game. And the other people, I guess they the other players, they volunteer for certain events.
[00:01:53] They have the slam dunk contest at three point shootout and celebrity game and something else. I can't think of skills challenge a lot of different events throughout the weekend in February. And it's fun. It's fun to go to if you've never been.
[00:02:08] I do suggest you go once if you're a fan to the game. Okay. Yeah, but to the other events is just just as fun. So this year I did not catch a celebrity all star game.
[00:02:24] And I hate that because Stephen A Smith was the coach on one and Shannon Sharp was a coach on the other. And they pick who they want on their teams and Shannon Sharp won.
[00:02:35] So I didn't catch that when I saw clips on YouTube and it was it was fun to watch. And the three point shootout, which was which is always entertaining because we've got a lot of great three point shooters.
[00:02:51] Of course, Steph Curry is the master of a three point shoes. And he went the first year of going against a WNBA star. Can't think of her name. Her name escapes me. I can't pronounce it anyway. But he went against her and of course he wound up winning.
[00:03:07] They had about three or four players who were tied and then eventually. Well, no, I'm taking it back. I want to say Dame one. Dame Lillard he won and he did. He won for two things. He won for that challenge and then they went to the slam dunk.
[00:03:29] Now that has been disappointing over the years. I'm so sorry. Those that you expect to be in it aren't in it and those that are in it aren't creative and unique. How many times can you jump over a person?
[00:03:42] I mean, at least back in the day you had Blake Griffin. He jumped over a Kia car. You had I don't know. I don't care what anybody says. Vince Carter shut it down. He had the best slam dunk to me.
[00:03:54] So I haven't really seen anyone else do anything that anyone else hasn't done wearing somebody else's jersey. I mean, come on. You know, let's I want to see some creativity and for the second year in a row. What is his name? Mack?
[00:04:09] Oh my goodness. I should have gotten I should have done my research before this episode. It's just in prop two. He won. He's in the G League. He went for the second year and it was worthy of him winning.
[00:04:20] He definitely deserved that but it's still you know even he worse. You know, I guess he had Shaq wear his old jersey and it's still not much of a creativity thing. And I don't understand what the problem is.
[00:04:35] Stephen A Smith had an idea that he suggested that they go to different cities and find people who can dunk and then they compete against each other. And it'll make it more interesting because I don't see or maybe have the fans we dunk.
[00:04:52] I mean, we dunk. We vote for everything else. Maybe have us vote on who should go. But it's kind of like, OK, in a way you vote on someone to go and I think everyone wants to go to the all be chosen.
[00:05:07] Right? You have those who are chosen and you have those who aren't chosen. But then you have those who are chosen may not want to go. Those who aren't chosen may want to go. It's I don't know. I don't know. It's crazy how that works.
[00:05:19] But something definitely needs to be done.
[00:05:22] I don't know. I like Stephen A's suggestion getting just average Joe's off the street to participate and have them, the player sponsor or just have the league choose who goes based on whoever, you know, those who give the best dunks because it's insane.
[00:05:43] We get people who we've never heard of, who we don't expect to do it. And there and it's I don't know. It's just not as fun as it used to be. I got to be honest. It really isn't the skills challenge. That was kind of fun.
[00:05:57] I didn't really pay too much attention to that. I didn't get a chance to watch much of it. But it came to the game, the game on Sunday. And, you know, they did it the East and the East and the West.
[00:06:09] And I got to be honest with you. The it didn't seem like there was much effort going on. It just was just people just throwing baskets. You had some people doing dunks. It didn't seem competitive. It didn't really seem like it was.
[00:06:25] I'm not gonna say it wasn't worth the watch, but it didn't really seem too fun. Something definitely needs to change on that. And of course the East one by a landslide, it wasn't even a tight game. It wasn't I don't know. It's just I don't know.
[00:06:43] It's just like they just don't really I'm not going to say they don't really care, but they just don't put that much effort into it. So it's not really too much of a fun game to watch. I got to admit when I was watching, I was multitasking.
[00:06:59] So yeah, something definitely needs to be done about that. I definitely don't think it should go away, but it definitely needs work. Yeah, they need to take this seriously. We vote them in. They need to take it seriously. And yeah, so that's that.
