[00:00:00] What's the most exciting and most watched sport in the United States?
[00:00:11] If you said anything else but football, you lose.
[00:00:19] Welcome to the Air Raid Attack Podcast.
[00:00:23] Nothing's more exciting than college or pro football.
[00:00:27] And when we say football, we don't mean soccer.
[00:00:34] Oh, no.
[00:00:39] We'll hang, we'll give you in-depth analysis and you know what, football and life have
[00:00:44] a lot in common.
[00:00:46] So you'll hear us tackle life topics sometimes too.
[00:00:49] Ready?
[00:00:50] So let's do it.
[00:00:51] This is the Air Raid Attack Podcast.
[00:00:54] Here we go!
[00:00:55] Here we go!
[00:00:56] This is your host, Air Raid Mike.
[00:01:03] Here's truly Air Raid Mike here.
[00:01:14] I'll walk you next week for a second but we are back for episode number two of the
[00:01:20] Wednesday Night Double Header Matt Blackwell of the Crimson Captain joined in and then Finishing
[00:01:27] the Night Cap is a good dude I'm looking forward to hearing about his journey from
[00:01:33] Marys to UT Chattanooga.
[00:01:35] And now as he heads into the NFL process of the pro-days and the NFL draft here
[00:01:42] in a few weeks, the All-American Safety from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga,
[00:01:48] Mr. Clay Fields, Clay, first of all, thank you for taking time out of your extremely busy
[00:01:54] schedule and hopping on the podcast talking some ball and hearing your story about your
[00:02:02] journey so far as you head into the National Football League.
[00:02:05] Well, thank you.
[00:02:06] Thank you.
[00:02:07] I appreciate you having me here on the show.
[00:02:09] Hey, it's my honor and I always tell people and I got a buddy of mine, D'Artagnan
[00:02:15] Tinsley from the University of Cincinnati is, hey, if I'm going to be a football
[00:02:18] if I can help in any way possible get the name out there, you know, I'm all for it because
[00:02:24] at the end of the day, you know, we're all we're all humans and we all try to help each
[00:02:29] other grow and succeed.
[00:02:30] And anything I can do to get your name out there, dude, in all good ways, I definitely
[00:02:35] will.
[00:02:36] And, you know, start things things off is, you know, tell the listeners a little
[00:02:41] about yourself and who you are and as we get this show rolling.
[00:02:47] I'm a little thing about myself.
[00:02:50] Names Clay Fields from Somerset, New Jersey before coming down to chat originally came
[00:02:56] from Marist College, which is up in Poughkeepsie, New York.
[00:03:01] Little things about a little fun fact about me.
[00:03:05] If it actually wasn't for football, I went to the culinary school.
[00:03:09] Interesting. Culinary Institute, which is actually right down the street from
[00:03:13] Marist, so it kind of it kind of, you know, kind of just worked out.
[00:03:18] I still at the end of the day I was right next to it.
[00:03:20] So yeah.
[00:03:22] With that being said, what are your favorite foods that you like to cook?
[00:03:28] See, I actually I actually like to make a variety of food.
[00:03:32] First, taking part in is a big thing for me.
[00:03:37] A thing up north we have, I don't know if you ever heard of this
[00:03:41] called Rasta Pasta, basically like a Cajun Alfredo type of thing.
[00:03:47] Then you know after that is kind of like the basics burgers
[00:03:52] all and just stuff like that, honestly,
[00:03:54] just different mixtures and combinations of foods.
[00:03:58] That's what's up now because that's interesting.
[00:04:03] That's a very fun fact.
[00:04:04] And
[00:04:06] and that's one thing I like is, you know, there's more to life
[00:04:11] and to human being than just than just football.
[00:04:14] And I like that. That's pretty cool.
[00:04:15] Now me on the other hand, if I can grill, that's cool.
[00:04:18] Now everything else, you know, I know I wouldn't say it's bad,
[00:04:22] but definitely it's not not Gordon Ramsay type or anything like that.
[00:04:26] So I mean, yeah, that's actually another thing my father
[00:04:31] like kind of like told me how to do he because he told me
[00:04:35] the importance of being able to hop on that grill and really,
[00:04:39] you know, cook it up every once in a while.
[00:04:41] And especially in the summers, that's like a lot of times
[00:04:44] that's all we use.
[00:04:45] We don't even come in the kitchen a lot.
[00:04:48] Same here, especially during summertime, especially here in Oklahoma
[00:04:51] where it's too hot to run the oven.
[00:04:52] So you might as well go outside and and grill and save some of the
[00:04:57] save some of the food and store it for the week
[00:04:59] and get the meal prep going.
[00:05:01] But hey, let's get to your journey.
[00:05:04] And you mentioned Marist.
[00:05:06] Talk about your time, excuse me, in Marist,
[00:05:11] receiving your communication degree at Marist
[00:05:13] and and starting from there as we head to UT Chattanooga.
[00:05:19] Oh, well, so I came to Marist.
[00:05:22] I was at Marist the first five years.
[00:05:24] I actually graduated with a marketing degree
[00:05:27] and it's actually a funny story with the communications degree.
[00:05:31] In fact, so towards the end of my career there,
[00:05:35] I was, you know, finishing my marketing degree
[00:05:39] and trying to figure out if I do want to transfer
[00:05:42] and what am I going to study?
[00:05:45] Am I going to, you know, my last year, am I just going to hang out?
[00:05:48] How to just do something?
[00:05:50] But talking to my athletic advisor, actually,
[00:05:54] I had I had a surprisingly a minor
[00:05:59] and that I was basically done with
[00:06:02] in sports communications.
[00:06:04] So that was one of the things that I kind of just stumbled upon
[00:06:09] and really just ended up doing that
[00:06:13] trying to finish that up at Chattanooga.
[00:06:16] But more of my football journey
[00:06:19] wasn't really highly recruited coming out of high school,
[00:06:22] very underrated type of guy came to Marist.
[00:06:27] Didn't get to play my first year really.
[00:06:30] Then my sophomore year was a huge turnaround
[00:06:34] played all 11 games actually started one.
[00:06:38] Then then COVID happened.
[00:06:41] Then, you know how that affected the college world
[00:06:46] hugely then first year back became all American.
[00:06:52] Then my last year at Marist ended up
[00:06:56] actually being the highest grade of safety in the country
[00:06:59] on all levels, SCS, FPS, D2, D3.
[00:07:04] So big huge, huge achievement for me
[00:07:09] because I felt like it just put me on a different level
[00:07:13] in terms of how I compare myself
[00:07:17] to like all those NFL ready guys.
[00:07:19] So came down to Chattanooga.
[00:07:22] Little adjusted, I had to get adjusted a little bit,
[00:07:25] but also found my rhythm.
[00:07:28] Then yeah, now we're here.
[00:07:32] Very nice.
[00:07:32] And of course, to the watchers and listeners out there,
[00:07:35] time in, leave your comments,
[00:07:37] questions for Clay throughout the show
[00:07:39] and and we'll get those answered throughout.
[00:07:42] Of course, I hate doing this because we all try to forget about 20
[00:07:46] forget about 2020 and COVID as an as a college athlete
[00:07:51] and especially in football where it's a lot of a lot of contact.
[00:07:56] Did that affect you any during those times where, of course,
[00:07:58] everything was limited?
[00:08:00] And of course, you know, from how that, you know,
[00:08:03] how was how was that hurdle for you in the way to kind of adapt
[00:08:07] to a new new society during those those months in 2020?
[00:08:13] I'm definitely different just in a sense of
[00:08:16] a lot of a lot of like college athletes for so many years.
[00:08:20] You're so used to like your body starts getting ready
[00:08:23] towards the end of that summer for, you know, going into camp,
[00:08:27] things like that.
[00:08:29] Then once the season actually hit and because unfortunately,
[00:08:32] Maris, we opted out of the seat at season
[00:08:35] and we opted out of the season.
[00:08:39] So not actually playing felt very weird
[00:08:44] just in the sense of being just, you know, not playing,
[00:08:49] not really practicing in like full pads and stuff like that.
[00:08:52] It was definitely a huge adjustment I think.
[00:08:56] Just because I've just my body's so ready to for football season.
[00:09:00] Of course.
[00:09:02] Yeah, definitely.
[00:09:03] And it was just a huge adjustment mentally and physically
[00:09:07] because my mind and my body is ready to play,
[00:09:09] but we're actually not playing.
[00:09:11] So kind of, you know, changed it up a little bit.
[00:09:14] And I felt like it actually got me in the right mindset of
[00:09:18] I got to take this serious because you never know when your last season might ever be.
[00:09:23] Yeah.
[00:09:25] Well, and that's a great mindset because, you know, a lot of things,
[00:09:29] you know, I'm my playing days are are long,
[00:09:32] definitely long gone.
[00:09:34] But I don't know if I could deal with another one.
[00:09:37] But, you know, he just and that's true fact
[00:09:40] because you just don't know when, you know, when your last time playing
[00:09:43] and how it can affect and so on and so forth.
[00:09:46] And when that time came back when you guys were able to practice
[00:09:52] and so on and so forth, was there any adjustments you had to remake
[00:09:56] or was everything kind of back to normal, just with different kind of set
[00:09:59] of protocols during the first few months or so?
[00:10:03] I feel like it's still definitely different
[00:10:05] because it's been you really don't, especially in the defense side,
[00:10:08] you don't really think about it so much because, yes, you practice it on your own.
[00:10:13] But at the same time, actually tackling someone after, I say, a year
[00:10:19] and some change like it is definitely a lot different
[00:10:23] because a lot of people definitely live more hesitant, right?
[00:10:26] Because it's been so long than what you used to.
[00:10:29] And really just getting back in that groove.
[00:10:32] I mean, it took a little bit, honestly, it took the team a lot,
[00:10:36] a little bit of a little bit of time to get back in that groove
[00:10:41] of like hitting people and things like that.
[00:10:43] But it wasn't it wasn't nothing too crazy.
[00:10:47] Now, we'll say I can see that you're one of those hyped up safeties.
[00:10:52] And were you ready to were you ready to hit somebody's helmet pads,
[00:10:56] make some pad noise out?
[00:10:58] That's for sure.
[00:11:00] Definitely.
[00:11:01] Definitely.
[00:11:02] And it's actually surprising when you actually do get a good hit
[00:11:06] on off as a guy that hasn't been tackled in some way.
[00:11:10] So like it it's like it still it still brings that joy back
[00:11:14] because once you get that first one under your belt, you're pretty much fine.
[00:11:18] Well, absolutely.
[00:11:20] So really, yeah, that's really just what it was, like
[00:11:24] getting used to it.
[00:11:25] And once you finally get it, you feel like it's like riding a bike.
[00:11:29] You never forget.
[00:11:30] Yeah, no, that's that's I like that.
[00:11:34] And I like that.
[00:11:35] I can see that you're one of those players that come off the ball
[00:11:38] and you're ready to ready to to hit somebody.
[00:11:41] And I like that.
[00:11:42] And.
[00:11:43] Course from Marist to the U.T.
[00:11:46] Chattanooga, what was a process like when it was going through
[00:11:50] the transfer portal and transferring to eventually U.T.
[00:11:55] Chattanooga?
[00:11:56] What was it like?
[00:11:59] And did it kind of prepare you obviously for the the pro days
[00:12:03] and with the scouts and as we talk more into that here in a momentarily?
[00:12:07] But did it kind of prep you ready for that?
[00:12:10] Or what was the process like during that transfer portal?
[00:12:13] Definitely getting happy in the transfer portal.
[00:12:17] I'm sorry.
[00:12:19] It definitely was a different experience for me just for just because
[00:12:23] I was a highly recruited, right?
[00:12:25] And now me actually making a name for myself,
[00:12:30] becoming an All-American, one of the highest
[00:12:32] degrees of safety in the country.
[00:12:34] You're getting a lot more attention on you in terms of like on Twitter,
[00:12:39] you're getting a lot more followers.
[00:12:41] I'm talking to coaches constantly and especially with the speed of it.
[00:12:46] Like I definitely enjoyed it.
[00:12:48] I was talking to coaches maybe while I was texting coaches like all day.
[00:12:53] Wow.
[00:12:54] It was a little it was into a point where it was a little hard to keep up of who
[00:12:58] because you're getting like new text messages every hour.
[00:13:04] Yeah, so I sometimes I had to like go back in our text messages
[00:13:09] just to double check to see who it is on the phone constantly.
[00:13:14] I mean, even though it was a lot going on, it definitely was a great experience.
[00:13:20] Going to like one of the reasons I chose Chattanooga was for me,
[00:13:24] honestly, I wanted because the thing with Scouts was coming out of Mayors
[00:13:31] was the competition level for me.
[00:13:34] And they said, yes, you could play, but how do you compare about
[00:13:38] with those guys that are NFL ready?
[00:13:41] And that definitely stuck with me in the back of my mind
[00:13:44] when I was in the transfer pool.
[00:13:46] So me and my family kind of made a criteria list a little bit
[00:13:50] in terms of like the team,
[00:13:55] like more of not really like more of how
[00:14:02] just more of a sense of like the quality of football we're playing
[00:14:07] early because we want to get in those higher standards
[00:14:13] because higher standards of playing football
[00:14:15] in terms of guys that are getting NFL looks.
[00:14:20] And so Chattanooga was a perfect fit for me,
[00:14:24] especially their defense that they had fit my play style tremendously.
[00:14:30] Then actually getting there and practicing and stuff like that.
[00:14:33] I sort of like off the rip, you could tell
[00:14:39] that this is not it's not Marist anymore,
[00:14:42] just in terms of the speed of the guys
[00:14:46] the quality that you're seeing all around the ball.
[00:14:49] A lot of those guys that you do,
[00:14:52] you guys did see during the year, like I promise you,
[00:14:55] you're going to see on Sunday one day
[00:14:58] because those they're that good, especially at practice
[00:15:01] where pushing each other, going at it,
[00:15:04] especially those hot Tennessee days
[00:15:09] where tensions are high.
[00:15:11] You really do see the best of the best come out.
[00:15:16] During that process and even not just during that process,
[00:15:20] but throughout your whole journey of football.
[00:15:25] Who?
[00:15:28] How has your family impacted you during that?
[00:15:31] And who has been your biggest cheerleaders throughout your
[00:15:34] really throughout your whole journey?
[00:15:36] You know, not just so much through your transfer portal process,
[00:15:39] but really your journey and your biggest cheerleader.
[00:15:42] My family definitely played a huge part in it.
[00:15:46] A lot of the times you've seen it more towards
[00:15:49] like the back end part of my career at Marist,
[00:15:53] just to start that my family were at almost every game
[00:15:57] supporting me.
[00:15:59] For me, like it just made me a little more comfortable
[00:16:02] because I know I have people there.
[00:16:04] I'm not necessarily on my own.
[00:16:06] Right.
[00:16:07] And felt like that helped me just give me a little side
[00:16:10] relief.
[00:16:11] And once once I got in the portal coming down to Chinuga,
[00:16:17] it was a bigger distance from there than it was to Marist.
[00:16:21] It's going from Jersey, New Jersey to New York is nothing.
[00:16:26] Anyone up north knows that that's that's a routine trip.
[00:16:30] But coming from New Jersey to Tennessee,
[00:16:33] that's that's something that's not not that easy.
[00:16:37] As a whole, a big culture difference down there
[00:16:40] and still and still making the effort to come to all my games.
[00:16:46] Definitely definitely had a huge impact on me just
[00:16:49] just by being there and show their support
[00:16:53] in terms of my biggest cheerleader.
[00:16:56] It's kind of a tie, honestly, between my mom and my dad.
[00:17:00] My mom loves the experience of just going to different places
[00:17:07] football as a whole, seeing the success I had.
[00:17:11] And my father, just on the other hand,
[00:17:13] a more of an athlete's perspective
[00:17:16] because unfortunately he didn't have a chance to play
[00:17:19] college ball because of injury.
[00:17:21] And him seeing the steps that I made
[00:17:25] just made him like just love the whole process as a whole.
[00:17:29] Because unfortunately, like I said,
[00:17:31] he didn't have a chance to go through it.
[00:17:33] But this just made him so excited,
[00:17:37] especially now with pro days,
[00:17:40] me talking to different scouts.
[00:17:42] My name starting to get out there
[00:17:44] with a little more buzz recently.
[00:17:47] There's definitely he's just excited for everything
[00:17:49] and the whole thing you can see me playing on Sundays.
[00:17:52] Now I respect that.
[00:17:53] That's that's I love that because
[00:17:57] regardless of regardless of whatever outcome,
[00:18:01] family is always by your side.
[00:18:03] And I love hearing stories like that
[00:18:05] just because it shows through whatever it might be.
[00:18:09] Literally, that family is families got your back
[00:18:13] and I can just imagine
[00:18:16] seeing your dad and even your mom, both your parents
[00:18:20] literally smiling and the excitement now
[00:18:22] going through the process of pro days
[00:18:26] and leading up to the NFL draft
[00:18:30] and so on and so forth that the excitement is definitely in the air.
[00:18:33] And in which, you know, first off, congrats on
[00:18:39] getting the invite of the Giants pro day
[00:18:41] and kind of now why now we're into the NFL
[00:18:46] and what is the process even like
[00:18:49] just literally from your final snap at UT Chattanooga
[00:18:52] and leading through now as of April the third.
[00:18:58] What has it been processed like now with
[00:19:02] taking those next steps into the National Football League and
[00:19:05] and scouts are they, you know, they call kind of interview you?
[00:19:09] What's what's the process like?
[00:19:11] Because you're now my first to ever kind of go through this process.
[00:19:14] Kind of curious.
[00:19:16] Um, this process is a little I mean, it's a little different than what I'm used to.
[00:19:21] It's a little different from college recruiting.
[00:19:24] I mean, it still has its similarities, but right.
[00:19:26] The same time is a little more on a professional level, just in terms of,
[00:19:32] you know, still trying to find out who you are as a person.
[00:19:37] Big thing with especially my position.
[00:19:40] You've seen a lot of my film that I'm very versatile
[00:19:43] in terms of positions that I play.
[00:19:45] I play three strongs, a nickel.
[00:19:48] I can even play corner if you need to. Nice.
[00:19:51] And a lot of teams are kind of, you know,
[00:19:54] I have such a variety of film that
[00:19:57] people are trying to figure out what position that I play.
[00:20:00] And I tell them all the time that I can play whatever you need me to.
[00:20:05] And I feel like a lot of people can say that they're versatile,
[00:20:09] but when you actually look at it,
[00:20:12] I'm very comfortable in any position that I play
[00:20:15] because I feel like a lot of my strengths are especially
[00:20:19] me having the ability to build chemistry
[00:20:23] with my teammates and things like that,
[00:20:26] especially situational awareness in terms of understanding
[00:20:31] what teams like to do and stuff like that.
[00:20:34] And especially I feel like I have an orthodox play style
[00:20:38] is very deceptive in terms of like my speed
[00:20:43] in terms of I might start off walking one way,
[00:20:46] but then I'm in a full on sprint the next second.
[00:20:49] Right.
[00:20:49] So I feel like that helps me play a lot of a variety of positions.
[00:20:56] So, yeah, I think that definitely is playing a factor
[00:21:01] in terms of trying to some teams try to figure out
[00:21:03] where they can plug me in at.
[00:21:08] Growing up,
[00:21:11] was there a certain player that you admire their play
[00:21:14] when it came to your position or just really just in football
[00:21:18] and general was that one player that you maybe even if it's just not
[00:21:21] admired from your position play just overall,
[00:21:25] was there any favorite players growing up that you
[00:21:29] know looked after or kind of mimicked so to speak?
[00:21:34] Definitely.
[00:21:35] So the way when I was being brought up into football,
[00:21:39] my dad was a very early 2000s 90s type of guy.
[00:21:43] So coming up, if I was going to play defense,
[00:21:48] we're here to play.
[00:21:50] I like Brian Dawkins, Troy Palamalu, Ed Reed, Ronnie Lott,
[00:21:57] all those guys because those guys demanded dominance
[00:22:02] on the defense side of the ball.
[00:22:04] And when you watch some of the film that you can see very
[00:22:07] a lot of similarities instead of like my physicality with Brian
[00:22:11] Dawkins and Ronnie Lott, those guys.
[00:22:14] Then in terms of coverage, you see you see the range I can have
[00:22:20] a lot of the playmaking skills that you see with Ed Reed and Troy
[00:22:23] Palamalu and started in terms of starting one place and ending up
[00:22:27] in a completely different one.
[00:22:29] So I feel like that doesn't mean guys I kind of modeled my game after.
[00:22:36] Those are some good players that definitely, you know,
[00:22:39] you can go after it because phenomenal players and through, you know.
[00:22:48] Try to figure out how to ask during this, I guess, leading up to draft day
[00:22:54] when you have your draft party, whatever that may look like for you,
[00:22:58] who's going to be at your house and what your what your celebration
[00:23:02] plans are going to be after after you get selected?
[00:23:05] Yeah, definitely all my friends and family because
[00:23:10] my family, like I said before, is a huge part.
[00:23:15] Then at the same time, my friends also played a huge part just in terms of
[00:23:20] keeping me level headed throughout all of this, because some even though,
[00:23:24] unfortunately, some of them weren't able to make it as hard as me.
[00:23:29] Right. They still play a huge role in terms of keeping me concentrated.
[00:23:32] And we like some thing I mean, my boys like to say we call it
[00:23:38] state of course, no matter how hard it gets.
[00:23:41] Sometimes you just got to stay down and just keep going with it.
[00:23:45] And eventually going to is going to show up.
[00:23:51] Yeah, because I mean, again, you know, you can go through so much that
[00:23:56] you can go through so much hurdles and, you know, kind of bumps in road
[00:24:02] and so on and so forth to the point that, you know, staying the course is
[00:24:06] is the once you stay there, course and kind of keep going through emotions
[00:24:11] that the reward is bigger in the end.
[00:24:14] And I can see that driven in the end and which leads to,
[00:24:21] you know, the food part.
[00:24:22] I got to ask you this clay on the food part and draft it.
[00:24:25] Are you going to be cooking some good food?
[00:24:27] Are you going to?
[00:24:29] All right. So with that, I'm definitely going to let my mom take over
[00:24:34] because that's definitely her thing.
[00:24:36] Yes, sir.
[00:24:38] She's been she's been cooking for she's been making like that's another
[00:24:42] one of the inspirations in terms of like why I like to cook it because
[00:24:45] of her. She is actually well, she took it too far now, but she she goes
[00:24:51] on, take talk and dry all these new things.
[00:24:54] And and sometimes I come downstairs like,
[00:24:57] what are you even making?
[00:24:58] And it comes out to be really good.
[00:25:00] So she's definitely let her do her thing.
[00:25:04] Not going to interrupt her.
[00:25:07] But in terms of what I'm a have there, I feel like
[00:25:11] definitely this is not going to be a common thing.
[00:25:15] We'll be honest.
[00:25:17] Because I'm also some people that don't know, I'm also Puerto Rican
[00:25:21] as well and she's fully Puerto Rican.
[00:25:25] So she's going to have some Spanish dishes there.
[00:25:30] Definitely chicken parm that's a non-negotiable.
[00:25:33] That's definitely going to be her famous mac and cheese,
[00:25:40] rice, chicken.
[00:25:44] We probably have, like I said, it's going to be a variety that she
[00:25:47] is one of those things that she knows what to make.
[00:25:49] And it's probably maybe at least 20 different dishes.
[00:25:53] Wow.
[00:25:54] And she's definitely one of those people that like you're not,
[00:25:58] she's not going to just make a little bit of one thing
[00:26:00] just because she's making a variety.
[00:26:02] Right.
[00:26:02] And she's going to make sure that it's going to be hard for you
[00:26:06] to make it home in terms of falling asleep.
[00:26:08] So.
[00:26:13] So what you're saying, Clay, is party at your house?
[00:26:16] I. Hey, we're going to see.
[00:26:19] We're going to see everyone that's listening
[00:26:22] and watching, please.
[00:26:23] Yeah, it's that's just a joke.
[00:26:25] I please don't show up on his doorstep.
[00:26:28] You're not you're not invited.
[00:26:29] That's going to get a little weird.
[00:26:31] I promise.
[00:26:32] I mean, if you guys show up, no worry about it.
[00:26:35] You guys can come on in.
[00:26:36] You guys just as much as family as everyone else.
[00:26:38] So I want to grab you a plate.
[00:26:42] Just just slowly walk out.
[00:26:45] No, I like that.
[00:26:49] I buddy of mine, he hosts the podcast
[00:26:51] called Defining Moments podcast and
[00:26:55] his name is Mr. Wong Lam.
[00:26:57] Shout out to him and
[00:27:00] throughout your early life so far
[00:27:02] and into this football journey
[00:27:04] and and moving forward with your career.
[00:27:07] What was your one defining moment that
[00:27:10] made that break that you were looking for?
[00:27:15] So actually it was kind of recent.
[00:27:18] My last year at Marist, I felt like
[00:27:21] definitely gave me that extra like
[00:27:24] wow moment of that could definitely do this.
[00:27:27] We were playing down in Stetson University
[00:27:31] down in Delanne, Florida.
[00:27:33] It was a tie game
[00:27:35] coming towards the end of the fourth quarter.
[00:27:39] Everyone knows Florida hot humid
[00:27:42] doesn't make any sense.
[00:27:45] Really just
[00:27:48] it's been a long day.
[00:27:50] Hot.
[00:27:52] No one feels like tackling in that heat.
[00:27:54] You think you have flashbacks of camp
[00:27:57] all over again, people's cramping, a whole bunch of stuff.
[00:28:02] So actually towards
[00:28:05] I want to say it's the last two minutes of the game,
[00:28:07] two and a half minutes of game.
[00:28:08] We finally got us.
[00:28:09] We got to stop.
[00:28:12] That turned into a 90 yard
[00:28:14] punt return touchdown that I've been trying to get all day
[00:28:17] because it's one of those things that has been there.
[00:28:20] But you haven't you just haven't got that little extra step that
[00:28:25] if you would have had you would have gotten it.
[00:28:28] Then about I'm going to say 30 to 45 seconds later, 75 yard pick six.
[00:28:37] Oh, nice to put us up 14 in the final minute of the game.
[00:28:40] So I think that definitely like a wow moment
[00:28:44] right and definitely from my teammates as well, just because like
[00:28:51] um for them, like they look at me to make plays, especially things like that.
[00:28:57] But I feel like I surprised myself just in a way of
[00:29:01] wow, I really took over this game in a matter of a minute and a half
[00:29:06] and really changed the outcome outcome when some people might not
[00:29:12] might even only had one of those two touchdowns.
[00:29:16] And how rare it is that actually get a punt return touchdown in a pick six in the same game.
[00:29:22] Definitely, definitely show me that I think I'm ready for the next one.
[00:29:28] Well, and you know, obviously I wasn't didn't make it that far.
[00:29:33] I'm perfectly fine with that.
[00:29:34] And you know, it's God's will.
[00:29:37] But you know,
[00:29:38] you know, obviously I want to consider myself a scout by any means,
[00:29:43] but I love the game of football and that's always going to be one of, you know,
[00:29:47] it's the sport that I love regardless and how good or bad the Oklahoma City Thunder
[00:29:52] are doing downtown or whatnot.
[00:29:55] But it's always going to be football.
[00:29:56] But you know, I can see just even the conversation we're having that,
[00:30:02] you know, the passions there, but the fact that like, you know,
[00:30:05] okay, dude, you know, I'm going to go out there and grind with the best of the best.
[00:30:10] And I want to show out and do what I need to do to make plays,
[00:30:15] but at the same time be a team player.
[00:30:17] And and but at the same, you know, and I get the vibe that, hey,
[00:30:21] I'm still clay fields, you know, and I'm always going to be clay and you're,
[00:30:28] you don't got the big head, so to speak.
[00:30:33] It's your humble and you're going to go out there and grind with the rest of the
[00:30:40] man on the field.
[00:30:41] And I respect that for you.
[00:30:43] Definitely 100% agree with you.
[00:30:45] For me it's more of a, I didn't make a year there yet.
[00:30:50] So we had to keep grinding no matter what the success looks like.
[00:30:55] We're going to get there one day.
[00:30:56] Whether that means I start on just making the practice while that's still a achievement to me
[00:31:02] because at the end of the day, it's still a process that you are going through.
[00:31:07] And even if to make it to playing on Sundays that you got to earn your keep on the practice
[00:31:14] while then eventually making it onto the 53 man roster, I'm willing to do that.
[00:31:19] My family is a huge, huge, are huge on hard work.
[00:31:30] And they don't expect anything less but working hard.
[00:31:35] So like no matter hard work I actually put in compared to other people, I feel like
[00:31:43] that yes, I have the confidence to know I can play, but at the same time,
[00:31:48] we have to stay humble because if you get too arrogant or cocky that you're going to lose yourself
[00:31:56] and by staying humble and not forgetting, because I think a lot of people forget about the little
[00:32:04] other people in their life that yes it might not be a huge impact, but they do help,
[00:32:08] help you get there no matter what that looks like.
[00:32:11] So I feel like that's a huge thing, huge thing for me that I emphasize that I take all the
[00:32:18] relationships that I do develop over this time.
[00:32:21] I do pay attention and care about it.
[00:32:25] And a lot of my friends definitely know that I'm one of those people that if you need help,
[00:32:31] I'm always going to be there no matter if I make it to the NFL or not.
[00:32:36] But yeah, that's just a huge thing for me.
[00:32:38] Well, absolutely. And I always live by it.
[00:32:45] And I always tell the kiddos, my kiddos that especially my oldest if anything is the fact
[00:32:53] that because he's his teenager now, but is the fact that you always don't forget where
[00:32:59] you started from. Don't forget where you came from is what they always say.
[00:33:02] But don't always forget where you started from because
[00:33:05] a lot of times, and I know a few people personally, I'm not going to call them out on it.
[00:33:09] But we've all been there, done that to an extent, I'm sure.
[00:33:12] But a lot of times we misinterpret whether it's a job title, whether it's a sports position
[00:33:17] or a coaching position or whatever the case might be.
[00:33:20] We always forget we got that title.
[00:33:23] Now we always forget where we started from because, you know, and I always say look back
[00:33:28] and say just remember where you started from and where you came from because,
[00:33:33] you know, at the starting point, the more your true people that were there by your side then
[00:33:39] are the ones still by. And I got nothing but praise for you on that because
[00:33:45] you're a humble dude and your family's a big thing.
[00:33:48] And I think when you got those two in coherent, the sky is the limit.
[00:33:54] And that goes for anything, whether it's sports or not sports.
[00:33:57] It's sky's the limit on that one.
[00:33:59] Yeah, definitely. I definitely agree with you. Like you said, you can't forget where you started
[00:34:04] from. I've been actually working out with the same trainer since my sophomore year of high school.
[00:34:14] And he's definitely been a big impact on me.
[00:34:19] Definitely. No, I would probably say he's the biggest impact on me in terms of
[00:34:22] the way I play on the field just because he's taught me a lot of the stuff that I know now
[00:34:31] in terms of like my technique, understanding the game as a whole. His name is Joe Porter.
[00:34:38] Yeah, he's just a huge impact on me, especially during COVID when a lot of guys were just
[00:34:44] sitting around not doing much. We were outside working two, three times a day.
[00:34:49] And that's another person that just had a huge impact on me.
[00:34:54] He never gave up on me because starting out, I was actually very undersized corner
[00:35:03] about let's say five, six, maybe 140 pounds playing.
[00:35:08] Then as I'm getting older and we were way to one,
[00:35:13] he seemed like, like you said, he literally saw me from where I started to where I am now.
[00:35:22] That's also one of my biggest supporters just because that he's seen where we started and
[00:35:29] he knows my story just in terms of not being highly recruited, but just staying down
[00:35:36] and just keep working. Because at the end of the day, no one can take hard work for me.
[00:35:41] And just keep working one day. We don't need every scout in the world to like us,
[00:35:48] we just need one guy. So that's why, like I said earlier, we take every
[00:35:54] relationship that we build with scouts, coaches, we take it serious in terms of trying to
[00:35:59] build a family aspect and building that trust. With me and the scouts and the coaches,
[00:36:06] trying to build that trust factor just so that they understand how serious and that I'm willing
[00:36:14] to do anything for them and the organization to try to bring their team a Super Bowl.
[00:36:21] Yes, sir. And I'm sure you get asked this a lot and I respect the answer because I know
[00:36:27] at this point, I'm sure it's any team that gives you that call.
[00:36:30] Is there a team that you grew up watching that was your favorite team? One. And then two,
[00:36:35] is there one to hang on to that? That's messed up. Now, what was your favorite team growing up?
[00:36:40] But I don't put them on the spot like that. What was your favorite team growing up?
[00:36:46] Oh, I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. I'm a Dallas Cowboys.
[00:36:51] Jerry Jones better be calling you then.
[00:36:54] Hey, Jerry, if you want to come get me, I just know I got my bags ready.
[00:37:02] But seriously, though, I'm willing to go to any team that's willing to pick me up.
[00:37:08] And even though I am a Cowboys fan that you're getting everything out of me and nothing holding
[00:37:14] back. No, I ain't gonna do that today. That's pretty, that'd be, I don't think I have anybody
[00:37:20] that's listening from the NFL. I don't know. Maybe I do. Who knows? That'd be kind of
[00:37:24] co-harded. No, I ain't going to do that. But no, because I mean, I would imagine just from
[00:37:28] your aspect, even though I ain't gonna say the team, but I'm sure there's a certain few teams in
[00:37:33] that NFC East that even though growing up, you know, will be tough, but at the end that you're
[00:37:38] fulfilling your dreams, I'm sure it's worth it in the end. But have you ever been to Colorado by
[00:37:44] chance? No, I haven't. I haven't had any chance to come out there. No, Colorado. No, I know
[00:37:53] wherever you end up. I'm a Denver Bronco fan. So, you know, you get there. I'll buy your jersey.
[00:38:00] I promise you that one. But no, do jokes aside. No, I know that you're wherever you go. You're
[00:38:05] going to be success because of the fact that you're going to bring the A game and your best,
[00:38:12] the best literally no pun intended on the field. And so, you know, you're just molding
[00:38:20] yourself to be somebody great. And I can see that and you get that drive going.
[00:38:26] Definitely 100%. I'm ready. I'm ready to take on any challenges. I think definitely being from Jersey
[00:38:35] that we have this thing where we're not scared of anybody. You know, a lot of people heard the
[00:38:40] March Madness run from St. Peter's bunch in New York and New Jersey guys were not scared of
[00:38:46] no one. We wanted to take on anybody, regardless of the name, statue and then they were going to work
[00:38:54] just like you guys. So ready to prove ourselves every day. I will say this is there, you know,
[00:39:03] this is just kind of curiosity. The preferred warmer weather or colder weather when you play
[00:39:09] when you play football? Now, I remember playing one time in the cold. It was really cold cold.
[00:39:17] Hitting that ground was not fun. Was it worth it? Yeah, not fun by any means.
[00:39:23] Okay, so now me actually playing in Tennessee in New York. Man, so definitely, definitely do
[00:39:36] prefer a warmer. I can't lie to you there. I'm not disagreeing on that one bit.
[00:39:42] Because definitely being out in Tennessee, I think it might have snowed one time within a year.
[00:39:50] Year and some change up it down there. And like it being a warm all the time,
[00:39:57] definitely, definitely different. But at the same time, not too big of a fan of the heat either.
[00:40:04] That's because I'm I have this thing where you can always warm up but it's hard to cool
[00:40:08] down sometimes. So to me, I definitely would prefer say I do I would say I prefer I like the warmer
[00:40:17] weather just just definitely coming down to November, December. That makes a big difference.
[00:40:24] Going from the snow to playing in 60 degrees is a big difference. But
[00:40:30] definitely, I think I would probably say I like I like the warmer weather a little better.
[00:40:35] Just for its long time. It's like that. No, I'm 100% with you because for all you listeners and
[00:40:44] the ones that former players, I'm sure you guys know, getting hit in the cold.
[00:40:48] I don't care what if it's 32 or 22 or 12 or 42. It's a different feel compared to
[00:40:56] 60s, 70s and 80s in the world. Well, definitely above that. But but I know some people prefer
[00:41:01] certain kind of weather compared to others. But but music wise, what's your kind of music you like?
[00:41:11] You like the warm up to do a warm up practice to? I like to listen to variety music. It's actually
[00:41:18] funny you said that because my friends kind of make fun of me a little bit because if you go on
[00:41:24] my phone and just his shuffle, you're going to get so many different variety of music that
[00:41:30] actually doesn't make any sense that you might go from, let's say hip hop to R&B.
[00:41:37] You might even find a country song in there who knows was in my phone.
[00:41:42] To Hispanic music. Like I said, a whole bunch of music that I've collected over the years just
[00:41:52] from, you know, just having to open my own trying different things out. And like so many,
[00:41:59] like I think that also helped me in terms of like we be able to talk with different people
[00:42:05] just because that I'm able to fit in with a variety of groups and even just having that open
[00:42:11] personality that people like that I am able to do that. So pregame. Yeah, you doing some TikTok
[00:42:24] dances during pregame? No, I'm not doing it. They try to my some of my boys on my team try to get
[00:42:33] on because I'm from Jersey and sometimes we like to dance and they try to get me to do it but
[00:42:39] no, I'm not not too big of a dancer. I might go to some, I probably won't start to warm up with hip
[00:42:47] hop. Then closer as we sit in the locker room way and I probably I like to slow it down sometimes
[00:42:55] listen to a little bit of R&B. Then once we're getting ready to go back out, turning back up to
[00:43:02] hip hop just to you know, give me back in that mood and get me back into a ready to play type of
[00:43:08] situation. I like that kind of get back amped up. Marist and UT Chattanooga, I'll give you both
[00:43:17] universities. What was your best road trip? Atmosphere environment when you were at Marist and
[00:43:24] then buy it back to Chattanooga. Okay, so I'm gonna split that into two. My best road trip that I like
[00:43:34] so Marist's schedule isn't typically like your normal FCS schedule. We're actually very country-wide.
[00:43:42] We have a country-wide schedule. So my first time actually going to San Diego and playing,
[00:43:48] seeing like the zoo and stuff like that definitely was an experience. But in terms of atmosphere I
[00:43:55] played in, definitely this past year playing at Alabama. Oh, I can imagine. That's a every guy,
[00:44:02] every kid's dream. And it's actually a funny thing because that was my first game ever playing
[00:44:08] nickel. And my coach is kind of sprung it on me was like real quick like, oh Clay, you're
[00:44:14] at nickel this week. Right. And I was kind of confused because I hadn't taken many reps at
[00:44:21] nickel before, but then they just threw me in the fire and actually had a to me personally had
[00:44:27] a great game. And just in terms of like just competing with those guys and just showing those
[00:44:34] guys that I can play at the next level, especially with those guys that are first,
[00:44:40] second round draft picks, being able to play with them just showed I feel like show scouts that
[00:44:47] that I can't play with those guys. And yeah, I'm ready. So those guys that atmosphere is actually
[00:44:53] pretty insane. Because it's kind of it's hard to explain their their stadium is kind of like a
[00:45:02] let's say I want to say I guess a more like a bottle shape type of thing where it just goes
[00:45:09] straight up like a sphere type thing. And no matter what you like everything echoes.
[00:45:18] Interesting. So once like someone makes a play the way that the sound might go from dead silent
[00:45:27] to like so loud is like definitely experience and like music playing in there everyone's excited.
[00:45:36] Um, some it's like it was a dream of mine to always play Alabama. And that's what finally got to
[00:45:43] play them and just the experience was just great for me and playing in that atmosphere
[00:45:50] definitely definitely something that you see on Sundays. So I knew her garage is a good buddy
[00:45:58] of mine they host their big Alabama fans and they host their pod and I'm sure that you know
[00:46:06] hopefully they're watching at least listening in the future but was it over not to try and
[00:46:11] give them a big head about it? Was it overwhelming or was it more intimidating or is it just more
[00:46:15] of a thrill, a vibe and adrenaline playing in that in that massive stadium? Honestly,
[00:46:22] it was just a mixture of anything because like your adrenaline is pumping because it's the game
[00:46:29] but then at the because we're going to be honest it's still Alabama. Right, exactly. So a little bit
[00:46:36] I want to say I was intimidated but for me like I said I'm not scared of anybody playing. So
[00:46:43] like it was just a mixture of mixed emotions but then me being the old vet that I am and
[00:46:50] on the college level like able to get my emotions together and just ready to play. So
[00:46:58] definitely probably one of the best experiences in terms of like a stadium and like this overall game
[00:47:04] for me in my college career.
[00:47:09] Looking forward, how has your life changed now with anything different from a normal
[00:47:19] lifestyle now as you get prepped up with the scouts and all the pro days and workouts and so on and
[00:47:27] so forth or has it kind of been the same but just kind of a few adjustments throughout this
[00:47:31] process now with the National Football League? It's a little bit of a mixture of both because
[00:47:36] personally to be honest, yeah now me being a spotlight is a little different is
[00:47:43] typically I'm a shy person. I'm not, I don't really look for too much attention
[00:47:49] but now you kind of want the attention especially coming to the draft just because
[00:47:56] especially being a small school guy that you need as much eyes on you as possible. So
[00:48:02] doing interviews and things like that like is definitely out of my comfort zone
[00:48:07] but with that being said like getting used to it but otherwise in terms of like training and stuff
[00:48:16] like that, this is the same stuff I've been doing for years. Like for example we do
[00:48:22] two three a days along with going to work. Nothing has changed for me honestly. I feel
[00:48:29] like me being prepared for doing that for so long making that transition to becoming a
[00:48:34] professional I definitely think that I would say is on the easier side but I've been doing it for so
[00:48:41] long that it's nothing new to me. That's what's up. I was kind of curious just because obviously
[00:48:49] I'm sure more workouts and more phone calls etc but wasn't for sure exactly how adjusted I ain't
[00:48:55] going to ask too many questions into it. I'm sure some of it needs to be on the DL but
[00:49:01] but the fact that I'm sure it's a whole commodity like you said a lot of interviews a
[00:49:10] lot of people all eyes now and now the close that we get what three weeks I believe out from
[00:49:16] the draft. So as we wind down the show what is
[00:49:23] let's just say I don't know I'm just gonna play devil's advocate. I don't I know it's 100%
[00:49:31] probably not true but let's just play devil's advocate and play that some of the coaches
[00:49:37] the amount of head coaches DCs scouts so on and so forth was watching the
[00:49:45] show right now. What would your answer be when I say who is Clay Fields?
[00:49:50] Um really that's a great question honestly who I am as a person in a football player is
[00:49:59] exact same thing. On and off the field you're getting a hard work to person person that's
[00:50:05] caring willing to help others and you see that trend transition into my game because I feel like
[00:50:12] as I got older working with trying to be being so versatile playing to other a lot of like other
[00:50:23] DB strength in terms of like building chemistry stuff like that like has helped me a lot it helped
[00:50:29] me be able to play with different types like for example playing with different types of corners
[00:50:35] with the types of safeties like seeing all those different pictures and playing as one instead of
[00:50:42] playing as individuals like it just makes an overall defense better and I feel like this as a whole
[00:50:55] year getting the person that you're getting is the same on and off the field like I said before
[00:51:01] and I'm a hard working care I care a lot about my craft I might not be a perfectionist yet
[00:51:09] but I'm striving to get there and doing the best I can you're getting a very coachable person
[00:51:19] even if you talk to teammates and things like that
[00:51:22] um you're definitely getting a leader um honestly I'm not one of those guys that
[00:51:30] that's gonna make all the speeches scream scream in front yell everyone because that's just
[00:51:36] not who I am as a person and I like to pull you to the side and almost coach you up in a sense
[00:51:45] that a lot of people don't take getting yelled at as good as others but I just feel like
[00:51:54] trying to solve the situation before like even if it's during the game um trying to figure out
[00:52:02] what what adjustments we can make us doing that on our own makes a defensive coordinator's life a
[00:52:07] lot easier and that's what type of leader you're getting and just in trying to develop my young
[00:52:13] guys at chat or back in mirrors like you're getting a you just you're getting a guy that's a leader
[00:52:22] that doesn't always care about you know taking the credit for it but I'd rather see
[00:52:29] a lot of people succeed then then you know then just being selfish so that's what type of
[00:52:35] person you're getting coming into your organization I like that that's that speaks volumes especially
[00:52:44] on and off the field as a leader and and you know someone that's willing to help develop the young
[00:52:50] ones in this aspect rookies and so on and so forth and even going back you know like you said
[00:52:56] to Marist and and to chat nougat to you know help the young guys the young bucks out and
[00:53:02] develop and mentor them in a way and I respect that and find a few questions and nothing nothing you
[00:53:10] know too major and and too difficult but um obviously the national football league is a worldwide
[00:53:19] nominal at this point and they're getting a lot of uh overseas games is a one location that they
[00:53:25] are either currently playing in uh whether it's London or mestico or germany I think
[00:53:31] Brazil now is in the mix now or if they are whatever um out of out of states out of country uh experience
[00:53:40] what's one uh country either the NFL is currently playing in or futureized that you would love to
[00:53:49] play in I think I think it's actually a time now because I didn't know about the brazil one
[00:53:56] I want to say it's 25 I believe is when the NFL in brazil because I know there it is let's see real quick
[00:54:09] okay uh real quick brazil to host the first ever NFL regular season okay so in south america
[00:54:19] okay so is this year um 2024 and I'm trying to see if by chance if they happen to have teams yet or not
[00:54:28] uh real quick I don't see somebody said eagles I don't know about that one um
[00:54:40] NFL announces eagles okay eagles a designated team for brazil games so the NFL is going to
[00:54:46] brazil this year no date but uh that's pretty cool um brazil is on the list as well any uh
[00:54:56] any experiences maybe brazil caught your mind now yeah definitely definitely um there's probably
[00:55:04] between brazil or germany honestly because I kind of got this weird thing of playing in places
[00:55:10] that um not too many people actually played in and I kind of take pride in that um actually at barris
[00:55:19] we played in minnesota one time and I was people thought it was so weird because I was so excited
[00:55:24] but if my mind is like how many people do you know actually say like I played in minnesota
[00:55:31] and I felt like it's just I don't know it's just I like odd things like that sometimes like
[00:55:37] playing in germany playing in brazil like hey even if they and I feel like we're going to japan
[00:55:44] we can play there like oh that'd be what's up yeah so I'm hey I'm gonna I'm gonna go anywhere so
[00:55:50] wherever you guys want to go uh glad we come with you hey I'm waiting for the NFL to go to
[00:55:56] australia I think that'd be kind of cool that definitely that'd definitely be cool that would
[00:56:01] be I think that'd be kind of cool um final question I'll end it on this one is um the hermit
[00:56:08] raj does this questions of death I think it's three of them but I'll keep it short um
[00:56:16] once it's all said excuse me once it's all said and done in your career in the national
[00:56:23] football league what do you see yourself doing following your playing days oh honestly
[00:56:31] um I feel like this is where the versatility comes in I feel like I got a couple things planned out
[00:56:38] definitely want to go back to coaching nice um probably it wouldn't try to get on the
[00:56:44] division whatever i say division but the college level in terms of developing guys and put
[00:56:50] trying to you know try to have a competition with myself to see how many guys I could try
[00:56:54] to put in the meat myself um between that um definitely some type of thing in business just
[00:57:03] in terms of like owning rental properties and things like that maybe owning a restaurant one day
[00:57:15] maybe doing like marketing for college teams because you know nowadays all those
[00:57:22] high videos and things like that um I feel like that plays a part in like recruiting
[00:57:29] things like that so stuff like that or um yeah I feel like that's main ones at this moment I
[00:57:39] could think of off the top of my head while really thinking too much but yeah that's probably
[00:57:45] one of the main things I probably want to do once I get out of the tunes I'm done with the
[00:57:51] NFL absolutely and last one with your college days being over regarding play playing
[00:58:02] the direction that the college football realm is changing the landscape has just
[00:58:05] absolutely changed in the last really two years but probably within the last four
[00:58:12] do you like just from a fan standpoint I was put it that way from a fan standpoint and from
[00:58:16] former college player but still college athlete do you like what the game is headed or
[00:58:23] is there still some a little concern from a college football player standpoint or
[00:58:28] is it called as a game kind of in good hands and moving in the right direction
[00:58:32] um I feel like I think honestly some makes sure both once the big thing with the
[00:58:39] transfer portal game I feel like it's uh it's a little bit of both just in terms of
[00:58:47] on the bad sides a lot of people are quick to pull the trigger I'm trying to leave a place
[00:58:52] just because it's not what they thought it was at first instead of sometimes sitting there
[00:58:57] developing at um a school but I feel like on the other hand some people do need that
[00:59:06] um new place just for them because sometimes yes coming making that type of huge decision
[00:59:13] as a high school guy sometimes you might make the wrong decision and that's very understandable
[00:59:19] so I just feel like uh it's like a mixture of both with the transfer portal um
[00:59:25] terms of the game itself I feel like is definitely in the right hands um I think just the only
[00:59:32] thing that's changing is that the is getting more I guess directed more of the players now
[00:59:41] that we are kind of I guess you would say you're preparing them to become more professionals in
[00:59:47] terms of like NIL and things like that so I feel like the interns of that direction is definitely
[00:59:53] going up so yeah I like to answer I definitely agree on on the transfer portal and I think it's
[01:00:02] we all can agree to disagree on some topics and it's a thing that I don't think is ever going to
[01:00:07] change because we're continuously seeing college football is going to change expansions and playoff
[01:00:13] expansions and so on and so forth but uh Clay dude it was an honor just getting to know you as a
[01:00:18] person and and to hear your story at the same time uh hear your journey from Marist to UT
