This is William Shatner, and I would like to invite you to take a journey with me into the 21st century. So take the next few minutes and listen very closely. You'll be amazed at what you hear. Okay?

[00:00:26] Can there be a little more excitement in the beginning? I love it. Okay. All right. It sounded like really laid, you know, really super laid back. Well, I'm saying, okay, I'll try and do that. That's two take two.

[00:00:51] This is William Shatner, and I would like to invite you to take a journey with me into the 21st century. So take the next few minutes and listen very closely. Well, speak up. And maybe you better do it the way you hear it. Do it for me. No, I mean just go ahead. Uh, this is William Shatner, and I would like to invite you to take a journey with me into the 21st century.

[00:01:18] So take the next few minutes and listen very closely. You'll be amazed at what you hear. Is that the way you'd like me to do it? Okay, I'll do it that way. Okay, ready. Okay. Okay. I think that came pretty close.

[00:01:48] Are you making fun of me? No, I'm doing... I'm just jesting? No, no. I was... I believe that you asked that was about the way you did it. I wasn't jesting. Okay. I'm sorry. I don't know. No, no. I insist. Now, what I want you to do is on... Is that satisfactory to you? No. Maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut. No, because if your mouth were open, you'd have popped some pills in them.

[00:02:17] So do the next paragraph for me so I can get an idea of how you want it. This is page two. Well, I don't know. I really don't want to because I think you actually have a much better... No, I don't think I do. I would like to hear you read the second paragraph so I can do it that way. Let me hear. You know, I really... Now that I've looked at the different things you did, I really liked the first one. No, I like it better the way you did it. I insist that you show me how to do page two. Oh, please.

[00:02:47] Really, I mean it. Please, read... So I can get an idea of what you want. No, no. I'm going to do it the way you think it should go. No, I am going to do it the way you're reading it. Okay? I know you're here to see that I do it the way the company wants it. So I'm going to do it the way you read it. No, but I don't want you to do it. But you're telling me how you want me to do it. Well, I'm sorry. No, no, no. I am going to do it your way. No, there's no apology necessary.

[00:03:17] You know what you want. You know what you want. No, I don't. I mean, I don't... I mean, you come in here and you don't know what you want? Well, I come in here because I know you're a professional. I mean, and you know how to do it. And I'm sorry I didn't even send anything. No, I am going to do it the way you want. Every paragraph. And you'll send it back to town and you'll see whether, you know... I hope it will please everybody else. As long as I'm pleasing you, that's all that matters. Mr. Shinder, would you please?

[00:03:45] You know, I don't feel right about doing that. I really... Well, no, you felt you wanted something done on the first paragraph. I'm trying to do what you want. Okay, let's lay down the second paragraph. We missed. We loaded. We edited. Sometimes we get so deep into conversation that we have separate segments worthy of their own place in the sun.

[00:04:18] Here is a reshuffled mini-episode. Welcome all. We are doing a comic book review. And lo and behold, it's not based on anything. It's a continuation of an author's... ...brusely existing book series. And of course, we gotta mix in some serious...

[00:04:47] ...with some cheese. Some camp. Intended or not. So, lo and behold, William Shatner is many things. An author is not one of them. But it didn't stop him from making that his secondary career. In addition to singing. So... Much like Tech War, he couldn't escape the Star Trek sci-fi typecast. So he basically just wrote his own ideas and material. And Man of War is one of those.

[00:05:13] This is a comic book that's basically a follow-up to some books he wrote in the late 90s. About Brendan Fraser. A career diplomat. Who's the best in his build. He's a maverick. So not unlike Captain Kirk of Star Trek. He... Goes around checking on crimes in the mining tunnels of Mars. And before he can say Ray Bradbury, He's... Doing espionage and other political discourse. Must stop...

[00:05:43] Help the colonists in the Red Planet Corporation. And build a compromise. So... That's what it claims from the other stuff. This is a comic book that... He essentially... Also made into a DVD. That was an interactive movie. Provided the voice for. I would always see it on his IMDb. And was like, what the hell is that? Why can't I find it anywhere? Not even on Amazon. The comic has its appeal. And artwork is not bad.

[00:06:14] It reminds me of Stephen Colbert's Tech Jensen. Which I reviewed. Also here on the show. And... Just very Buck Rogers. Flash Gordon-ish. Kind of set. Designing. And art. Style. You know. You could say John Carter as well. But... All together. Just... Doesn't really cut the mustard. But... It's a must. If you're a Shatner. You'll watch him read... You know. Read the phone book. You know.

[00:06:42] That guy's getting up there in age. You know. He has no shame. I can't blame him for wanting to do something like this. It is a lot of fun. I'm not gonna lie. And all together. It's just... It's just very intriguing. Fun. All together. It's just... You get what you paid for. It's just... It's engaging. While it is just cheesy as hell.

[00:07:12] You also kind of gotta applaud him for wanting to do something different. I'll take it over any of Shatner's Star Trek spinoff books where he brings back Captain Kirk any day. You know. These are more just... Casual curiosity. You know. Don't spend any more than five, ten bucks on him. It's not worth that much. But... The ideas are intriguing. But...

[00:07:40] It also is just the kind of thing that... Again... It didn't need to be sixteen issues. But... You can get it digitally on Shatnersmanowar.com I personally wasn't all that impressed. Especially by what comics I could read online. But... You know. It is what it is. It's kind of amusing. And for that, I can recommend it on that merit. But... Other than that.

[00:08:08] It's not really something you gotta just check out and see. So... With that being said... If you're completists... You'll probably pick it up along the way sometime. If you just want a lazy read. You don't necessarily want any particular quality. You just want junk food. This will do the trick. So... Shatner completists. Check it out. But... Not... If it's pricey. And not in your price range.

[00:08:37] Or if you just think it sounds too dumb. Because it's pretty dumb. But... If you like kind of trashy... You know. Not going out of its way to be bad. But just... Silly... Escapism. This might do. So... See if this floats your boat. But if not... There's no need to press on further. So... Thank you for letting me... Warn... And slightly recommend... A... B-movie-esque...

Do you ever find yourself thinking about who would win in a fight between Goku and Superman? Hi, I'm James Gabsy, and on the Who Would Win Show, me and my co-host Ray ignore anything important happening in the outside world and debate fictional battles between characters from comics, movies, and video games.

[00:11:01] We got a new show every week, and almost always am I the winner. Yeah, not true, Ray. In the past, we've discussed such matches as Captain America vs. Darth Vader, Solid Snake vs. the Iron Giant, classic matchups like RoboCop vs. Terminator, and even the Muppets vs. Sesame Street. That one was crazy. So if you're a fan of geek culture and love a spirited debate, check out the Who Would Win Show wherever you get your podcasts, or check us out at whowouldwinshow.com.
