[00:00:00] Everyone will always underestimate you.

[00:00:07] You must make them pay for it.

[00:00:13] My darling Bjorn, we lost Ragnar.

[00:00:19] We lost Lagr.

[00:00:22] Perhaps the golden age of the Vikings is gone.

[00:01:23] It wouldn't make sense for me to stay with you, I suppose. Oh.

[00:01:25] Catagat is at all mercy.

[00:01:28] We massively outnumbered.

[00:01:30] You have to excuse me, love.

[00:01:32] Some of us will perish.

[00:01:34] For a working death is bliss.

[00:01:39] Don't change everything. The Holy Grail is in France. What better symbol to lead us back to the Holy Life?

[00:03:05] The Pope must be dealt with, and we must recover the Grail for ourselves.

[00:04:23] The temple is not safe for you or the Grail. It's a chapter of review show. It's a chapter of review show. Chapter of review show. Oh. Welcome all.

[00:04:24] Welcome all.

[00:04:24] I'm your host, Soli.

[00:04:25] And with me, I brought even more uncanny guests. off. So there's a hidden thing unless you're totally into Norse and you see the people like wearing shirts that say my dad my dad's Ragnar or my other ships a long ship and stuff like that. Yeah. Oh man. So before we get into this and try and so it's stuff like that. I mean, other show like Babylon Five was one of my favorite sci-fi shows. Oh, I love that show. It's the characters, the way they interact. You know, you don't have good characters at its core. You know, you could be a cheesy ass, you know, they're doing it in front of cardboard cutouts as a background. But if you don't have the characters,

[00:07:04] you know, an interaction between them, that's going to suck.

[00:08:02] A good example, the opposite. When I was younger,

[00:08:04] Night Court loved that show.

[00:08:05] Oh, there you go.

[00:08:07] Then they did a recent reboot of it, not a reboot or continuation.

[00:08:11] It was like Harry's daughter and John Marchett in it.

[00:08:17] Same character on that is horrible.

[00:08:19] I got I watched the first episode and couldn't get into it

[00:08:21] because there's no chemistry with the characters.

[00:08:24] I was hesitant, given the production values.

[00:09:25] Were you familiar with any of these actors prior I knew Travis Phil from a few

[00:09:32] Movies and but you might know him from raised by wolves and he was on this Patrick source

[00:09:36] Swayze cop show that was also on a knee

[00:09:39] no, see that I mean the one guy the

[00:09:46] The other professor the English professor looked familiar I got seen in passing You just see everybody just sort of meld around and go, so like, hey, I know what kind of does this, teaches battle acts. There you go. So let's get him here. And this person's a great costume. Let's bring them here. Yeah. Give him the title and give him this and that. Klim Stant then has gone on to do a few different heist and war movies.

[00:11:01] He played young Lee Meehan's character on that taken show,

[00:11:04] but I knew he was associated with this.

[00:11:06] And I was like, I think we hate him more because he's just like so self aware of like what a scum he is. But I think that's why it's kind of compelling. I mean, we'll get into kind of nightfall the other show by the same creators. But like, it's really

[00:13:44] for me, easy to see why this ranked pretty high for History did not have foreign tablets. Yeah, it can't just be I mean, 13th Warrior, I think is another popular Viking movie. And I think I love it. I think that everyone's in the rain, no one's trying to get all their tribal makeup on. They're just trying to kind of scrounge up stuff, survive and go buy their version

[00:15:00] of a biblical verse.

[00:15:04] That's a great I took that movie. Can I mention other I'm not sure if there's any relation. I think it's just a homage. Played by Vladimir Kulik who was in 13th Warrior and you might know him also just from playing the beast on the Buffy spin-off Angel as well as the main main guy pulling all the strings in the first equalizer. Eric the Viking on Vikings. Yeah Vladimir Kulik, the late great

[00:16:23] Ray Stevenson who left us. Oh he was awesome. Also in season six it was called Vaz, you know out 2013. Yeah, 2013 and then it did two or three seasons, three seasons and then got cancelled, soft cancelled if you want to someone else picks it up. They and I think the part one of both season fours five and six that had to be confusing is like,

[00:17:40] Hey, you know, we're gonna take a break. It was kind of like they did with battle stars. Like,

[00:18:43] You're gonna have some great dreams though, I'll tell you that. Nothing makes you like, oh, I want to just pick up a sword or an axe and just go for it again, watching the show.

[00:18:49] The things you have in this show, what I call your people, when you watch a show, the people that you root for.

[00:18:59] Like Game of Thrones, you always have your people how they're just going to screw all this up. They're going to be a bad apple. Yeah, I loved I think around season three and four how there were the one one of the old the first oldest son who becomes a bald, you know, mammoth and Ellen couldn't predict that. He used that character. I think that character probably had some of the biggest character development across the whole show giant moments. Yeah. Yeah. He went from just being a shipbuilder to being a turncoat

[00:21:43] at one point really when you look at it from the main this or that way, but you, you know, we weren't there. So we got to work with what we do know. I've seen some professors complain about this while other people praise it. And I'll take it with a grain of salt, because I didn't sense any agenda throughout it. It wasn't like some of these other ones where it's like, Hey, we're gonna do something cool. I think this

[00:23:01] happened. I think the only agenda people could try to find

[00:23:05] out of this show is they're showing how the Vikings came to There's way more philosophy to this whole deal. You know? What, what, what? Well, that's another whole story. Yeah. People, people, people missing all the time. But it's funny how like you could watch this going in tone down and still be entertained. Yeah.

[00:24:20] It's in my, who knows?

[00:24:22] Maybe it might open up your brain and say, Oh, I feel nasty.

[00:24:24] Yeah.

[00:24:25] Well, it's just some I mean, I like certain Westerns. I'm not a huge Western show person. By like Tombstone. Tombstone movie was my favorite.

[00:25:43] Yeah, I can't do an episode of Gunspoke. But if you want to

[00:25:46] give me something like Deadwood or you're wondering, did they just not want to send us the theaters world and debate fictional battles between characters from comics, movies and video games. We got a new show every week and almost always am I the winner. Yeah, not true Ray. In the past we've discussed such matches as Captain America vs Darth Vader, Solid Snake vs the Iron Giant, classic match ups like Robocop vs Terminator and even the Muppets

[00:28:25] vs Sesame Street.

[00:28:27] That one was crazy. like in time in a little bit with other other historical figures, you know, stuff like that. Yeah, because I mean, the most they have is acknowledging and having like a narration by Rothgar, but yeah, that would be cooler to just kind of if it becomes a lucrative franchise. I mean, it already is, but like if you want to keep expanding it, yeah, that could be down with that.

[00:30:46] watching. I started to be watching to refresh my memory on some aspects of it for the show. A lot.

[00:30:47] It is. It is a lot. But I found myself like, I'm digging. I'm watching it on the bus when

[00:30:55] I commute to work and stuff like that. And in between listening to podcasts.

[00:31:03] And it's really funny when it really like about the Vikings show was the fighting was excellent. You know, because I did stage combat,

[00:32:21] and live steel fighting and all that.

[00:32:23] Choreographs and trained some of the people in the fights,

[00:32:25] and he said it's a very friendly atmosphere. And yeah, he played somebody named... I just lost him. It's flat nose. Cuddle. Cuddle of flat nose. Cuddle of flat nose. A little mouth. Yeah.

[00:33:40] I did not realize that that was him.

[00:33:42] That's crazy.

[00:34:47] Yeah, so the fighting was great, the costumes were great. Still it is intense.

[00:34:49] Yeah, a lot of it is based on fact. I mean, they know they can look at. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I know we fought Tuesday now and we settled that and that's also that's in the path. But now we need to join forces and guard. Sometimes they still fight. Right. I can't forgive you. But I'll play, including the main guy. I think it was like one of the butlers and here he is being the and then strongholds. Yeah, and it was one last stronghold, I think it was north of Scotland. And they were going to brought a fleet up to just take out the fleet. Yeah, to take out the stronghold. But when you got there happening Friday, the 13th,

[00:39:02] it was empty, completely empty, no traces, no nothing, just gone.

[00:40:04] structure they had for the Templars within. Yeah, they're sorry. Do you mean to up to there? No, it's fine. They're

[00:40:07] it's pretty much that there is a good mystery is like this is

[00:40:11] literal, you know, grail seeking without the Monty Python

[00:40:17] parody. But yeah, this is around the same time they're doing

[00:40:20] other kind of gritty shows like the bastard executioner and the

[00:40:23] last kingdom and so and white queen. So. And it was almost a master if I remember correctly wasn't he? Yeah, he pretty much got lost all his accolades just from repeat just kept being captured and being disgraced and having Queen Joan. Yeah, so an affair there too or something. Yes, he had an affair and then they haven't. He's

[00:41:40] having to fight his son that that was very captivating to me.

[00:41:44] But Queen Joan and so her kingdom stuff and whether or not

[00:42:46] you know, whatever city they're in. It doesn't have to be part of a franchise. Yeah, pre existing. Yeah, I mean, people are going to go that way instead, you know, I guess, but

[00:42:55] because I guess a lot of people when they hear like nightfall, they think like,

[00:42:59] business will be vampires. Yeah, they don't actually sit.

[00:44:01] Yeah. Was he really?

[00:44:02] I didn't know that.

[00:44:03] Yeah.

[00:44:04] I think, I don't know if it was through his production company or if he just shelled out

[00:44:07] money but Jeff Pinkner who was a screenwriter on the new Jumanji movies as well as infamous

[00:44:13] stuff like The Partower and Fifth Way and also produced it.

[00:44:20] He's produced a lot of other movies and shows too like Zoo and From.

[00:44:24] Zoo was fun.

[00:44:25] I read the book for that that was based on.

[00:44:27] Yeah.

[00:44:28] The Patterson produced show. Is it paranormal and all that stuff? You see? Yeah. Yeah. Mystery of Oak Island. What the hell is this doing? Yeah. Oh, it's a shame. It means a show like that. Last time he remembers it again, it's been a while since I've

[00:45:40] seen it.

[00:45:42] They were captured and were escaping.

[00:45:44] And he just got back to one of including some of the traders. Uh, and our main hero had the wonderful line was like, God's greatest army has evaporated like water in the desert. That's bleak. And they would know, I mean, they did a lot of the fighting and, uh, and it was, it went from being a TV 14 show to a TV MA that was way more.

[00:47:03] Gory and pelvis and yeah, occasional language.

[00:48:00] Different. One of the first things that keeps coming up is the DC.

[00:48:05] Nightfall.

[00:48:09] Based on a TV series, you've been a deep right now a hit TV show.

[00:48:14] Well, apparently not enough of.

[00:48:16] You can follow the fall of Acre Landry Godfrey and the other survivors

[00:48:22] of the siege flee himself, but it's across the Mediterranean.

[00:48:27] Oh, wow. Hey, because Disney wants to just act like this doesn't exist. Watch the two series and write your fan, your own fanfic or what happens. There you go. Use it for creative juices for the next piece. Yeah. Inspired them to do another similar show. I mean, it might've been hell on earth just organizing this whole thing, but you can't deny the results.

[00:49:40] Yeah.

[00:49:40] Yeah.

[00:49:44] I mean, the costumes, the armor, the armor was, you know, and

[00:49:48] I mean, everything's justal period in drama. Yep. That's a good point. Sword and sandal. Like you said, there like, do you think, uh, quite a few years ago,

[00:51:02] Spartacus, where they, the kickoff to allow some of this stuff to be

[00:51:07] actually be able to produce.

[00:51:08] Oh, absolutely. Indiana Jones and then have that be in the backdrop there. I think made you interested in the actual historical legends even more. Yeah.ested by scholars and other people want to learn about earlier times. It's a good gateway. It's a gateway drug for history.

[00:54:46] The spirituality of them, the idea of the gods and what they stand for in different days like that.

[00:54:47] Any idea, like, you know, they say, you're going to die when you're going to die, so

[00:54:55] live life to its fullest.

[00:54:56] Because if you're supposed to drown and you move to a desert, you're going to end up

[00:55:03] like drowning in like a bowl of water somehow, pass out from heat exhaustion face down in how oversaturated we were going to get where we're creating too much stuff. Did, um, I don't think it did, but did Vikings get any nominations at any point in time? Let's see. Let's see. I, but my, my, my main issue, my main thing is, I mean, you don't have to really.

[00:56:24] No, no, I agree.

[00:57:26] it's gonna be done. Directors Guild in Canada has some noms and then wins for picture editing.

[00:57:36] Best young artist award, but like to say a lot of them are Irish or British Columbia awards.

[00:59:03] Hey, hats off to them. They might, they experience. I saw Stuntz, I think, was on her credits at one point. Helen Shaver, Canadian actress, who's become a director put the next episode on to watch it. But, um, not a show to have home with little kids, you know, running around. Oops. Yeah.

[01:00:21] It's like, uh, yeah.

[01:00:24] Oh, that's what you tax does daddy.

[01:00:25] Yeah. Yeah.

[01:01:21] how they portrayed it.

[01:01:23] It's a good point. You never know what to expect.

[01:01:25] Yeah.

[01:01:26] And like and how it rallied everybody to go after.

[01:01:31] Ivar and the roost, you know, to beat them back.

[01:01:39] Playhow it works.

[01:01:41] Yeah, I think there was enough leading into it.

[01:01:45] So I wasn't really completely shocked.

[01:02:44] mentality of I want to die in battle and go to Valhalla even though he suffered his wounds from battle. Come at me bro. Yeah he's like literally you know.

[01:02:52] I mean and I think the thing is he's not afraid to die but he's also he doesn't

[01:03:00] have a big head like he legit call it could also, like, there's enough bloodshed that the goreheads will still be entertained, but not to the point where you're like, okay, I can't show this to teens. Yeah, yeah. Is that like the throwing buckets of blood at the camera type of thing? Yeah, it's littering, you know, it's the reason it's TV-14, but it's also, to its credit,

[01:04:21] very organized, very intriguing.

[01:04:24] You can keep track of everybody on that said battlefield. Yeah, Nightfall was way more gruesome because like, you open up with a guy getting impaled with a cross. You're like, whoa, this is how it's going to be, isn't it? Well, and every it's not done in a goofy action movie way where you can take it with a grain

[01:05:40] of salt because it's kind of unintentionally campy. I have some relatives who are Mormons and they're watching a few other movies or shows. They're like, that didn't happen. And I'm thinking to myself, oh, yes, it did. It happened. You just don't want it to. Everybody has done some not that shit. Oh, if you did, you're not living.

[01:07:00] Yeah.

[01:07:01] Yeah, you're doing something wrong.

[01:07:03] Everybody's going to have to correct.

[01:07:06] You're probably not much of a leader.

[01:08:04] other comedians who show up have so many other just promising and just very wonderful projects. I've been fortunate enough to work with Crystal Storm, the audio drama gal and Delvin Cox's

[01:08:09] talk show and video game podcasts on the PlayStation experience is also a wonderful listen.

[01:08:15] Yep.

[01:08:15] Yeah.

[01:08:16] I mean, no tea, got into the sacred college. What a collective.

[01:08:19] Yeah.

[01:08:20] It should be their own podcast network.

[01:08:22] It's really, it is. It's like, you know, I don't know who started, but it's like,

[01:09:24] And Matt's got the whole, you know, mortal verse. He's got a new show coming up with that.

[01:09:26] Yeah.

[01:09:27] He's going to be pretty much the number one fan film kind of guy,

[01:09:32] but an audio for.

[01:09:33] Yeah. Yeah.

[01:09:35] He's got a show coming out.

[01:09:36] They're working on.

[01:09:38] He's, he's mentioned it.

[01:09:39] The audition.

[01:09:40] So I can say it.

[01:09:41] What's called the world's finest radio show.

[01:09:44] Oh, it's going out.

[01:09:45] I don't know if I'm speaking out of term,

[01:09:46] but he's already said about the auditions max. Yes. I'm on all those. I'm on, you know, just guess too many things. I was guessing double cock show.

[01:11:01] We did the gun control thing recently.

[01:11:03] That was, that was a very interesting experience.

[01:12:05] comics that there's a bunch with Batman, Judge Dredd and the Predator and Alien there. I was a huge comic collector when I was younger.

[01:12:08] I got out of it because it was just too expensive, too many things going on.

[01:12:11] But we've got online resources.

[01:12:14] There is.

[01:12:15] There is.

[01:12:16] I just have to take the time to do it.

[01:12:17] I've got so many resources because I'm also doing some writing and stuff like that.

[01:12:20] Yeah.

[01:12:21] Oh, sweet.

[01:12:22] I'm working on it.

[01:12:23] I'd love to see any of your books.

[01:12:26] I have a lot and go for it. Yeah, right The most unlikely one too and you're like, whoop. Here we are

[01:13:44] It was a wonderful having you on here and yes, thank you for having me I really enjoyed it
