[00:00:00] This podcast is a production of Unfiltered Studios. If you would like to know more about joining Unfiltered Studios, please visit our website at unfpod.com for more information. In 1995, two of the hottest comics in America, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, teamed up to create a show that would go on to redefine comedy in the 90s. Hey, who wants a banana? The Bob is not a person. The Bob is pure light and energy. I would God let this happen!

[00:00:29] They called it simply Mr. Show with Bob and David, and it seamlessly combines cutting-edge sketch comedy, remote segments, and a live taping night. Oh, now's not a good time, really, for that. Rolling Stone magazine called it fast, furious, and funny. The Los Angeles Times called it sharp, and the New York Times called it brilliant. I think they're being sarcastic. In less than two years, Mr. Show has become nothing short of a nationwide phenomenon. Dear Mr. Show, I really love you guys.

[00:00:59] With its very own website, Bob and David merchandise, and a fanatically loyal following that has turned the debate, who's your favorite, Bob or David, into the latest American craze. And, yeah, got my tests back, got my results. Yeah? Yeah, they think, um, you guys have some pretty serious, um, health problems. Oh, you gotta take this right up here, buddy. What we like to do, if I may, is we like to break the rules, make new ones, and then break those.

[00:01:29] Hey, aren't midgets great? I don't hate them. Sure, they're... Better than people. It's about time somebody came along, in this case, David and I, and said, hey, HBO, come on with us. With Mr. Show with Bob and David, HBO has once again broken new ground by giving their stars unlimited creative freedom. The results of this freedom? An almost family-like atmosphere on the set.

[00:01:56] And the love of their adoring fans, Bob and David, take the stage. Yes, America's favorite funny men, Bob and David, have created television history one more time.

[00:02:56] Cause I figure we'll go through this like in an hour. Mr. Show? I mean, we can. I mean, so... I could talk about that for days. I quote that show every day. Oh! That's awesome! It runs in the media center of my office usually once a week. Oh, that's great.

[00:03:21] I took note during the recent viewing, so I have plenty of skits that I know I'm gonna bring up, and James is gonna piss his pants laughing the minute I mention him. You know how I prepared and was watching the reboot, the one they did for Netflix? Yeah. And see? I totally spaced on it, and then I realized, I can totally go for this in a day. It's just five episodes. Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I only watched that once. They took episode three down, because unfortunately, it is... Yeah.

[00:03:51] It wasn't nearly as bad as what they said it was. It was taken out of context completely. It was kind of like the community episode where they're pointing out, hey, you shouldn't do that, but Netflix didn't want to take any pressure. And I get it, you know? Yeah, yeah. It was funny though. Okay. I've got to download a copy. It was really well done. Yeah, I thought it was funny. Do you remember? I just know one day we're gonna have to trade each other's movie and cult TV libraries. Oh, absolutely. That's great. Well, it's kind of... Okay, did you watch... Remember?

[00:04:20] I don't want to tick... But remember when Sarah Silverman got busted, like for her show, there was an episode where she was in blackface? Yeah, I remember that. Yeah. I totally forgot about that. In context, that was totally well done. Like, it wasn't anything... When you only show like one clip, yeah, it's gonna be offensive, but she was making a point. They saw the punchline, but not the buildup. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah.

[00:04:45] So that was a bummer because it wasn't handled very well on any stretch. That happened to me. It's very similar to what happened with this Mr. Show thing. Like, they really pulled it for like one scene. But if you saw it in the context, it makes sense, but... And that happened to me. I... We have an aunt who's very deaf and she was watching one of the recent Emmy shows. And she's wondering, what are they saying? I'm like, she's hearing every other word and it's a lot of the offensive words. It's like, well...

[00:05:14] The actress is making fun of doing a giving birth scene and like a... I forget which actress it was. It's a very comedic actress, but it was one of those just like, okay, let's rewind. Yeah. Listen. Put subtitles on. Listen. Please. And hear the whole thing. Because you're looking at it and acting like she's lost her marbles. It's like, no, no, no. Stop. That's the whole thing I love about like Monty Python.

[00:05:43] Is that Monty Python could do certain things and get away... Like they would do it briefly. Now you're kind of looking at it and you're like, oh man, that was... Yeah. So you've never seen the Monty Python where they do the Attila the Hun show? Yes. And Eric Idle comes in in blackface going, hello, Mr. Hun. He's like, hi, Uncle Tom. Well, there's a whole lot of them. Even physicals here to see y'all. Well, it's like... To be clear. To be clear.

[00:06:11] There is stuff out there that actually is offensive, but it's like, it all depends on the context, right? Like it's... Like if you take it out of context, it's... If it's satire, especially with satire, there's probably... Satire is so hard to do. Oh yeah. The Pythons were all about satire, right? Well, the thing I was just watching... Absolutely. I was watching a Little Rascals episode, right? Oh yeah. They give the kids cake, right? So all the white kids get the chocolate icing and Stymie gets the white icing around and I was like, oh man.

[00:06:41] Oh, so subtle. So subtle. So subtle. So subtle. I definitely think... So do you think Mr. Show owes more to Python or more of Kids in the Hole? I mean, it's his own voice, but... Python. All right, cool. Definitely Python. Especially with how every skit leads into each other and is semi-related. Yeah. I agree with that. Yeah. It was like... Now for something completely different.

[00:07:09] I can't remember watching that the first time and just watching it. And they do the... They did this. I was just watching the one episode, the What to Think episode, right? Yes. So then they do it where Senator Tangle goes, I wish... I wish... It's Bob O'Keefe. He says, I wish... There's a... I think he's asleep now. Pulls back. There's a grandfather sitting there sleeping. He says, it's like, with these new books for seniors, it's great to read to our kids. You know, like Senator Tanglebell, the pixie right-wing senator.

[00:07:37] You know, Zim and Zam, the pro golfers in outer space. Oh, my Lord. And the Bible in his silly undersea adventures. Now they're taking capital for. So what they would do is they would just... They were just going to these little links and then it would go into another sketch. And so I think it... I think that's what the thing was. It was Python. It was... It was... It was, you know, Dave Cross and Bob Odenkirk, you know, basically saying, all right, we're going to do more like what Python did. Yeah. Absolutely. Whereas kids in the home always have the sketch, always have the sketch and then the

[00:08:06] little musical bit and then the sketch and the film bit and all that stuff. So I think that's... And you got to think too, they came out at a time when, you know, there was a big, like, I don't want to see like vacuum and sketch comedy. Gary Shandlin kind of opened the door for him, gave him a good word. But at the same time, like every edgy cable TV making a book I have read, and you can

[00:08:33] find some of this trivia online, Bob and David have been on the record saying the HBO suits didn't understand it at all, but they just let it go. And so I would hope they get it now. Yeah. I mean, because it was on all the time. I'm going to bet not. And because executives are notoriously good at being completely oblivious to what stuff, completely oblivious to what actually works. I mean, we had... They didn't get the Tenacious D show that came out afterwards.

[00:09:04] How many, how many, how many seasons of Friends do we get? Five seasons. A lot more than we should have. The correct answer is too many. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. So... I said the second five were just basically the first five redone. Oh! There you go. Now, I'm going to go, I'm going to disagree a little bit with, with the, the connection to Python.

[00:09:32] Python didn't necessarily have the, had the same elements as Mr. Show. The only thing that really separates them to me is that Mr. Show had that tent pole, that one thing that runs through all the sketches of monkey Python. Python, you had to add that occasionally, but not, not consistently. Oh yeah. It might be... So, but the other part of it is that sketch comedy is, is really tough to do sometimes.

[00:10:01] I mean, because you have to have the right scripts, you have to have the right people, you have to have the right... Yeah. So, with the Pythons, you have that camaraderie. You have that, that, the group that wrote together or wrote for different things and they recognize each other and, and they went out to do that with... I knew Bob Odenkirk before he became known as Bob Odenkirk. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:10:26] And, and then I think David Cross, I, I kind of knew about him, but I knew him as more of a... I knew him from... Oh yeah, there was a strike. I knew him from just shoot me. Yeah. And I think I knew, and I do remember him being in Joel Hodgson's, uh, TV wheel, the one episode that he did. Oh, that's right. He was in that. He was in that. And he was, he was, he was really good in that, in that, you know? That was good.

[00:10:55] So I think... I would get mixed up with Steve Odenkirk, but I mainly knew him as, oh, he's the guy who wrote for Chris Farley and Conan on SNL and like, okay, I had no idea. But, uh, so I'll just give a brief lowdown on the cast members. Uh, you know, uh, again, you know, this is before the whole Arrested Development, Breaking Bad universe, you know, Bob and David are collaborating. Jay Johnston, you know him as being the guy on Bob's Burgers who got arrested on January

[00:11:24] 6th, so less about that the better. John Ennis. That's, that's, that's another good reason. Sorry, Jay Johnston. That's another good reason to go back and watch the with Bob and David. Cause there's one scene in there that's like, oh, he shouldn't have shot that one. Yeah. There was, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. Didn't mean to interrupt. No, no. What was it? What was it? It was a scene where they, it was a segue from, oh, what was it? Oh, it was the, it was the sketch where, um, uh, David Cross is going on about

[00:11:54] betting his doctor and he's getting, he's going on. I bet you can't save my leg. I bet you can't say, but like, it does this whole thing. And then he realizes he shouldn't make these bets. And they segue to a guy in the clan hood and he lifts off the clan hood and he says, welcome to the KKK. And he goes, oh, I guess I can't be president anymore. Oh man. A little, a little too on the nose. A little too. Maybe that skit is what brainwashed him and said, I actually believe all this bullshit. I'm saying, oh no. Jay. That would be a great story if that's what made it.

[00:12:23] That's what did it for him. Uh, thanks Bob and David. Um, yeah, they'd already worked. No, it's fine. They'd already worked before on, uh, Larry Saunders and, uh, Ben Stiller show. Uh, John Ennis, you've seen him in the twin peaks revival and, uh, Wait, was he the heavyset guy? Yeah. With a giant beard. And he's always, he's pretty much in every scene is always like, what is happening? You know, and yes. Scott Ackerman. Yeah. Scott Ackerman. My gosh. Yeah. How many bang bang Brian posh.

[00:12:52] Another just shoot me big bang theory guy. Paul F. Tompkins, future podcaster, Paul Thomas Anderson, collaborator, SpongeBob Squarepants himself, Tom Kenny, Jill Talley. Who's been in a lot of these and constantly in the background, you'll see Sarah Silverman, uh, Jack Black and Marilyn Raj Cobb, uh, guest appearances by Michael McKean, Marlon Wayans, Ben Stiller, Becky Thorne, Jerry Minor, Janine Garofalo. Brian Doyle Murray. Brian, oh, that's right.

[00:13:23] And John Cryer. John Cryer. John Cryer. John Cryer, really? I had to squint my, like, what? When they do the, when they do the, when they do the, uh, the sketch where it's, uh, the fat kids versus the, the, the, the Buddhist monks. They, they, they, they, they, they, at the end you hear, you know, John Cryer's back and they go, Ducky! He goes, yeah, come on, get in the fucking car, assholes, you know. Was this ever syndicated anywhere? I know, I don't think I've ever seen it on IFC.

[00:13:53] Instead they showed the Run Ronnie Run movie, which they disowned on, on, on TV net a lot. And I'm like, yeah, they said it was a bad idea. They did it anyway. And then New Line, I think, took out a bunch of scenes to make it more random. So it was just like, okay. It's like, I always kind of look at like Run Ronnie Run as the forerunner to like, uh, you know, what's the one, uh, Oh, the kids in the Hall of Hard Candy. No, no, no, not the kids in the Hall movie.

[00:14:18] No, no, the, the one, uh, the one from the guys that did, um, Tom goes to the mirror. Well, that was another Bob Odenkirk produced venture. So yeah. But I'm saying, but I'm saying the two guys, you know, uh, David, what was it? Uh, Tim and Eric, Tim and Eric's awesome movie. Oh, Tim and Eric. Yeah. It's like Tim and Eric's awesome movie. Like when they did that, it was like, it was like Run Ronnie Run and Tim and Eric's awesome movie. I kind of watched it. I was like, I was like, okay, I kind of make sense of it, but I don't make sense of it.

[00:14:48] You know? I had more fun with Tim and Eric's movie. Oh God. It's like, it's watchable, but it's like, I'm not laughing other than the Jeff Goldblum skit. Mary Lynn does have a funny scene though, as a hippie who's like meditating and you're like, what is she doing? You know, I met her a year ago, a year ago this week, actually at a show she was doing. And, uh, she's amazing. She's amazing. And I said to her, I walked up to her, we were talking, she saw my 24 shirt and we started talking about that. And then I said, you know what I really liked? Rap the musical.

[00:15:19] And she just started laughing. That was like the final episode. Second to last episode of season two. Yeah. It really is just so witty. And I think so much, I gotta say, I think season one and two are my most favorite, but season three has way more diversity. And for, I don't think they were out of steam. I think they just kept going on and on. And then they didn't realize we want to do something different now, but like season two, like episode five. Yeah. The rap, the musical was just like perfect. Like it wasn't derogatory.

[00:15:48] It was just like, here's our interpretation of rap music and how we can rap about anything and make it funny. I'm just a little gold tooth. I'm just a little gold tooth. To like, to like Mary Poppins. Yeah. Boopity bop. But, and that same episode, there's another skit. And I know James is going to lose his shit over this, where there's a unusual family that owns a porn store. Oh yes. Red the red balloon. I love how they keep getting like kids.

[00:16:19] The red balloon took them to the store. That's the beautiful. That's all. And it's so funny. It's like, they own it and they're like, Hey, don't be doing that. I'm like, well, we live here. What else is there to read? Those vibrators put you through college young man. They're like a religious Mormon family or some shit. And when God shows up, he's like, Oh God. How much are the peep boops in the back?

[00:16:48] The one thing that cracked me up was one night I was watching, one night it was on HBO during the original run. I was watching something like they were doing the thing about the, you know, welcome. They're doing the thing, you know, where it was like a takeoff of Sid and Marty Croft. Like they were like, they're like Sid and Marty Croft. Altered state of drug-a-chusets. Altered state of drug-a-chusets. You have to memorize verbatim. When they fucking did it, I fell on the floor laughing because all I can say is the beginning.

[00:17:18] If you watch the beginning of H&R Puff and stuff, David Cross did the whole thing. Jack Wilde. Billy's just a stupid kid. Oh my word. Hi, Jenny. Hi, Pup Brownie. You know, and then the flute is a bong. He's like, oh no. What are you doing? We want to order a pizza, but they'll know. They won't deliver. Oh my word. Why don't you just pick up the fountain? And then the one guy's, I don't know who it is.

[00:17:48] It's the one guy's dressed up like, um, but he's doing like Charles Nelson Ronnie. Yes. Oh my word. Yes. They went to town with the reality show. There's so many skits where Ronnie is being arrested cop style and you're giving mock interviews, but like even. I mean, season one, there's like one skit where it's like, here's a movie, but if we were making fun of a blue movie per se, and then it's just wild how they just go from there

[00:18:15] like and in an internet day and age, if there's a skit that's just too out there, you don't get just going to the next one like you could easily do an internet clips show like college humor additions and go to the next skit. The skit I loved was when they did the, uh, they, they did the, like the, remember that guy who was like, and he says, now this is something you could use. You could do this. You could do it here. So it was like the guy was doing the saucepan thing. Yes. Oh my word.

[00:18:44] One for granny, one for mommy, one for daddy, one for little Timmy. Now look, I was like all these saucepans and I'm going to throw that out. I wonder how many hotels they were just trapped in just watching the worst of the worst like TV just to get inspiration, you know? Oh, absolutely. The Burgundy loaf. Oh God. I see that one live during the, uh, hooray for America tour.

[00:19:13] Oh my God. Oh God. They do so many just like making fun of your stuck up conservative parents, your hippie uncles. My favorite is the guy who's the explorer says, he says, I've heard the lions roar. It goes up your back, down your spine, the base of your scrotum, up to the top of your penis and pickles it. Oh man.

[00:19:42] He's like, he's like, I've seen it, it went on my many ass nipples. I was like, yeah. Season one and two. He's like, he's like, he's like, you have no idea what words mean. Do you? They mentioned cock rings a lot. What I really like about the show is how they would just take words and just smash them together. I mean, my business card right now, it says Wiley Coyote genius. Cause I own Wiley Coyote genius.com. Yeah.

[00:20:11] It takes out everything that I do. But when I run out of those, my next card is going to say Windermere Hankin, the mayor of television. Because that phrase, that's, that's a phrase I probably use every other week. Like what's your name? Windermere Hankin, the mayor of television. It's just, they just smash these things together. Wally P Doyle. Well, five more times. Oh God. Oh God. That was the best one. It was, it was East coast and West coast ventriloquist going at it.

[00:20:41] And then they're having to say the worst things ever. There's Professor Murder, Professor Murder. Who's the other guy? And then they have Pickles. Pickles. There's one named Giggles or something. Yeah, Giggles. I'm going to fuck you like a bitch, Joel. Oh my God. Yeah. And he's like, wait, wait, no, that's not me. I swear. That's the puppet. Yeah. And they tell, Tom Kenny saying sales of ventriloquist CDs have hit an all time high. Oh my word. In the tens of thousands. So many, so many ventriloquists.

[00:21:10] Well, and remember then they link later. I don't care. I can't remember if it's in the same skit or if it's later in the episode, they're like, by the way, a murder of the ventriloquist has been linked to all these CDs. And so they're treating it like rap music. Yeah. They're mongering. It's causing our kids to get violent. So they're having a meeting of East Coast and West Coast ventriloquist. So the ventriloquist are outside going, we just want to have a good solution to this. And then it cuts to, it cuts to the interior where they're having a meeting. It's all the ventriloquist dolls sitting around on a table. Yeah. Oh my word.

[00:21:41] Well, in the crime scene was the guy lying on the ground with blood on the sheet. And then the ventriloquist doll covered with a smaller sheet. Oh my word. Yeah. It's like, you had to have a separate. I didn't know Professor Pickles. And then the wife goes, we asked his wife, you know, his wife gave a question and she goes, oh, you men. And that's what they call the episode. Oh, you men. Oh, man.

[00:22:08] Did you ever see the one where they did the takeoff on Amadeus? Yes. Oh, that's like earlier, I think. Yeah. No, that's later. That's later. Was it Falooza? Falooza, right? He's supposed to be like, he's like, he goes, heaven hand for the 11th, the 11th 12th president of the United States. Yep. Yep. That's a great. And the whole thing is like, he's like, he's like, he's like, Salini, I am with child. I will come to bear. You will bear me a horn section woman.

[00:22:37] All you give me is percussion. Oh, my Lord. And then he's like, he's like, he just, it was just so, so strange. Just zany as hell. You're like, you're stalking me at every corner. There's Jay Johnson dressed like this ghoulish maker going. Oh, man. They dressed him up so scarily at times. And then, but the one I was like, is, why were they obsessed with cock rings? How many?

[00:23:06] It's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just the cock ring warehouse. Cock ring warehouse. Oh, God. I would say it's because it was that earlier sketch where the family is making money off of popcorn. Probably, but like they mentioned it like earlier, like season one. And I'm like, man, okay. The one I loved was, um, the one was Reverend Columba. I don't know who played Reverend Columba in that sketch, but he just, be kind, rewind. Oh, man.

[00:23:37] So then it turns into that. No, no, no, no, it wasn't him. It was, it was this guy. It was just one dude and, and David cross. Then it turns into, um, I just made a movie back in 08. It kind of rewind. It turns to the bat, a Batman sketch. Like, you know, it's like, Holy Hebrews, Batman, like that, you know, Yes, that's right. And then it turns into. Bang, kaboom. Yeah. Kaboom. That goes to paint. Right. Yep. I was, I was the guy who, they did this thing.

[00:24:07] Like it was like, it was like boogie nights. Right. So literally, I don't want, I don't want to picture that. I want to picture that. You don't want to picture the flabby bat, the flabby babby or the, or the who, who, who, I don't know. I want a picture of his taint. That's what I'm going to do. It's insane. That man's taint. Save my man. It's like, he's like, so that Odenkirk's in the corner doing like the imitation of the Colonel from boogie nights, you know, he's got the cigarette and everything. And then he, then he cuts over and he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, taint,

[00:24:36] you know, taint nothing, paint your wagon, you know, and then he comes to the driver of the party and says, this is, this is, this is, this is Marty. He calls our Marty, Marty, Marty Johnson, our new. Yeah. I got a 10 inch paint, you know, and then he gets beat. He was like, he was beating you. Of course, decency got him in. Captain decency, a professional wrestler says, how's he looking? I don't care. I don't care if it's a fishbowl. I just want to see what it looks like. He opens the doctor opens. Okay. All right.

[00:25:05] Opens the door, but there's, there's David Croft. He's had an official over it. Oh, yeah. There was a lot of fun music covers. I did. Does anybody remember? I heard an interview with Odenkirk and he was talking about the story of Everest. And when he tells a story, he tells, he tells about the audience. Cause if you, if you, the story of Everest was the guy that comes home and they're waiting to him for the story. And then he falls back against the thimble collection. Yes.

[00:25:35] Which is hilarious. Except if you're in the audience, you had to wait until they set up all. They had to set everything up again. Then they had to shoot the scene over again. Then he did it again, but he did it like seven times. Oh Lord. People were there for like hours and they were like just getting more and more pissed that they're like, it's not funny anymore. It's not funny anymore, but it was like, it's, it's, it's okay. We're recording it for the thing, but they made the audience sit there through the entire. I think that's what I loved about it more.

[00:26:02] Just the, just like any good improv show, like you're, you're actually seeing them participate with the audience at times. Sometimes even ask them to be up on stage and have the time comedians are already in the audience that are going to participate. So that makes. Yeah. My favorite was, my favorite was the, the, the one guy's moving out and he's got the three landlords that are all foreign. He's like, I pissed on your shit. I pissed on your shit. I pissed on your shit. I pissed on your shit. I pissed on your shit. They have landlords.

[00:26:32] We are friends again. Oh, well don't forget in season, don't forget in season one, when it's just like, they go all psycho. It's like, it goes from being a landlord to where it's like a mock fight scene or something. Oh, I care about you. And, um, uh, I, I gotta, I gotta bring up season three where there's, there's just a wacky intro where David Cross isn't sure if he's playing a version of himself or vice versa. Yes. The audition, right? Oh, there you go. Yeah.

[00:27:02] Yeah. The audition. No. Sit down. That's not all we asked for. Get out. Which I think he does again. I think he did it on Arrested Development or version of it later. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I, I love in that same episode how there's a, uh, Santa, a Santa Claus portrayers being held hostage. This guy doesn't get it. And then they start beating up Bob and they're like, why? Oh, no reason.

[00:27:31] Oh, that hurt. Why are you doing that? I, I love, I don't know. Just no reason. I love, I love the one where they did the guy Grass Valley, Grass Valley, Greg. Cause he, what did he invent? He invented the delete button or something like that. Oh my God. Yes. That's what it was. There's something like that. Yeah. Yeah. And he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, it's like, it's like, he interrupts a sketch where this guy's going to be like, where Bob Odenkirk comes home and says,

[00:28:01] Mom, Dad, why did you say I was gay? He's like, I am not going to help. And like, he says, you are going to be gay, damn it. And he goes, and Brian Postley, Brian Postley comes in. Yeah. Comes in and he goes, he goes, and the mother goes, Rodrigo, do your stuff. And he's wearing like, he's wearing like, like chaps with like Daisy Duke shorts on. Like a leather jacket with a fishnet, with a fishnet shirt on. So then, so then all of a sudden Dave Cross comes in.

[00:28:30] He's like, he's like, what are you doing? Come on, Toe Fiti today. Come on, come on, let's have Toe Fiti. And he's like, he's like this like millionaire who's like, he's like, he's like, I saw you take a little thing of Toe Fiti and you threw it out. We just don't want it. He's like, no, you have to have Toe Fiti. Hey, you want some, you want some, you want some cotton candy from spider sugar? It doesn't hurt the spiders.

[00:28:54] And it's like, it's like, it's like, what the, it's like, we talked to Grass Valley Greg's, okay. Yeah, he, he, he, he one time had the entire state, the entire nation of Canada sing happy birthday to him. You know, it's all this shit. I was part of that, I remember. And then he says, he says, he says, I can't, you know, he has goats with him. Yeah, the goats are mentally retarded. It was just, holy shit.

[00:29:21] I got to post some stuff on the site that I'm on, that site that I run for the theater, just some of the sketches that they did that were really funny, you know? Oh yeah. Yeah. I mean, did anybody remember what skit got sketch got them hooked on the show? I actually don't know. I, I think for me, it was the overcome sketch. Yes.

[00:29:44] With, with, with Dave playing this guy who was supposedly, if you ever watched, if you ever watched the, like any religious channel, they always have some guy who said he was gay. Yep. And then he would go, he's like, first we made Daryl, you know, it's, it's, you know, Daryl's temptation is homosinuality. And it cuts to like 1984. It's like, Greg, put the camera down. God damn it. Get over here. Come on, come on. Join us.

[00:30:12] I was, I was brought in by the homosexual cabal and I realized it was wrong. Oh my word. And then he fell back into homosinuality again. This is, it's 1986. He says, I love, he blows up, blows like a party shirt. He goes, I love you all. Then you see him like going down on a guy. Then it comes, then it cuts back. He says, he has this, he cuts back and says, I realized I was just living a lie. This isn't really how I am. And I, I'm married now.

[00:30:41] And it's a picture of him and his wife. And it's like him and his wife, who's Jeanine Garofalo is wearing like, it's like, like, she looks like she's a lesbian, like, you know, the atypical lesbian with like, you know, short hair and you know, the bad, you know, and then he says, Greg next week will tell us about his, his, his descent in insinuality, which will probably take him to two months from now back again, where I'll take him to Rio de Janeiro. And I, oh my God. This is why I was going to backslide again.

[00:31:09] It was just, it was just such a weird. It was yourself on like an NYPD blue episode or anything back in like 95, 96. Exactly. The world must've been obsessed with her. It wasn't Janet. Oh my God. It was just so off the wall. You know, that it's out of control. I mean, that's the definition of the show off the wall. Like you're going to, you can watch it in any setting. You're like, what the hell is happening right now? Why do I have the TV muted? I got to tune in and rewind.

[00:31:38] Well, I, I turned it on in the middle of an episode and it was the protest sketch. When they're, they're in Bob and David suck. Give us better seats. And then they went around with the signs. See, that was fun too. Just to just show them. First leave now. They never play the same. I want a better car. I got a terrible car. I want a better car. I'll tell you the, the one that kind of hooked me. Um, I watched a few of them on, on YouTube because I did my, I did my research.

[00:32:06] Um, the one that really stuck out to me, my very first one was the lie detector. Oh God. That is so sublimely brilliant. I could, I just could not stop laughing every time. But the one that really, really makes me want to go back and watch the show in its entirety is the one where they were NASA and NASA, they're going to blow up the moon. Oh God. Yes.

[00:32:36] Oh my God. In the song. In the song. In the song. In the song. We're going to blow up the moon. Yeah. It's a shame Jack Black couldn't be in that skit. And he was Hank Williams, junior, junior or something. They made fun of folk. Did you see the one where they did like the Grammys and it was like, yes. And he keeps hurling the award and accidentally killing somebody. Like. Willis Burton jr. Yeah.

[00:33:04] It's supposed to be like Clapton and Brian Wilson. And one. Oh my God. Yeah. So. So. They did the, the way they would do. I just. The, just the T the mock TV reporting was just great, especially in season four, where they have like. Like. Like. Like the reporters go out of their way to get shot so they can become worthy news or something like that. The ones on top of the building with this. Yeah.

[00:33:34] It's like. We're number one reporter now. I was like, what? No, I love the one where they did the report and like it cuts the Tom Kenny. Like, you know, it says, well, so what did you find out about this? Well, we found, you know, they make 10 cents a day. It says. Oh, that's a good, good. That's a good thing to know. Next up. Those sexy deaf people. What are they? What are they really saying? I mean. And they always call it on the spot. Yeah. On the spot. I think that's. When the people get the guys get lost.

[00:34:03] You ever see the one where they get the. They're doing like the. They've gotten lost. It's like, well, we're two hours in the search room. We already have the. A vigil going on for these people. It's like they're just in the woods somewhere. They'll come back, you know, and they always do that. It's always. There's always someone in doubt. And you're like. What? I. You go ahead. Oh, well. To Tom's point. I did love how the lie detector was used on its own creators. Also. I mean, that's.

[00:34:33] But yeah. Sorry. Everybody's got to go find that sketch. It's. It's. And Paul F. Tomkins' reaction. Yeah. The one thing that he does. Yeah. It's just like. It's just like. Oh, God. Oh, God. He shudders. He shudders on camera. All right. Now the best. The thing that really. It really still solidified that one for me in my mind was the fact that. Somewhere during the sketch they say, are you sure this thing is on? Or is it? Yeah. Is this pirate in TV?

[00:35:04] The. The. But yeah. So you're right. Right. You were going to bring up something. I like the new segment about the Devastator. Oh, God. Yeah. One of my favorite lines is I ain't afraid of no rolling coasters. Oh, my God. We're good. I like. I like. We're getting the hell out of here. Coupon. The movie. Coupon. The movie. Oh, my word. By law. I went to the Farrells and they've got a.

[00:35:31] They're having a sale for two for two socks, like two for six dollars. Oh, really? Where's the sale ends? Three o'clock. Today. Oh, man. I. And then the in that movie audition. I. In that same skit, there's a lot of music gags and they even spoof Weird Al, which is even more meta. But like. Yeah.

[00:35:56] Do you remember when Bob and David are being co-workers at like a boring office job? And they're like, yeah, let's see who can do a like convince the other that they're having phone sex. Peppermint. I'm trying to do it without being caught and people are doing. What are you doing? What are you doing? Hi. My name is my name is Raven. Yeah. Oh, oh, just. Oh, yeah. Yeah.

[00:36:25] I'll get that report for you right away. No problem. And they cut it closed so many times. And then I think at one point he's like, I don't know why I'm actually feeling like I'm getting turned on. I'm like, oh, my word. Well, Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve made an appearance in that as the Weird Al character. Yes. Really? Yeah. He was playing the Weird Al equivalent. Yeah. Because Dave, Dave's doing the thing called Superstar Machine or something like that.

[00:36:52] And all throughout that season, they have the goods. They got the goods. But then they all brought season four. They do that recurring like crazy restaurant skits. But I love it where that turns into like a good fella spoof. And they're they're burying. Are you telling me? It's a sloppy made for TV at it. And they're burying stinky business suits. Thank you. 20 words is my highest number. Yes. Yes. You flipping idiot. Look what happened. You stupid Chinese dentist.

[00:37:23] Mother father. Mother father. You mother father. Mother father. Chinese dentist. You gosh darn Chinese dentist. I mean, what's a good gorshin? What's a good gorshin? What's a good gorshin? I like, I like, I like the one with the guy who's the beauty pageant guy for fetuses. Oh, my word. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Or they do. They do. They do the make a wish foundation, but it's like not a make a wish foundation. There's that.

[00:37:52] Do you remember the TV watchdogs who are literally blinded and they form a bad health skit? Oh, as a more as the end of season four. But I also loved how they did the medieval kingdom skit. Yeah. Like it's a, if it were a sitcom or some shit. Yeah. The mom and pop grocery store that goes up against that chain grocery store. Yeah. I love that one. That's the one I share most. Fairs.

[00:38:18] If you're going to watch Fairsley's, you'll either hate it or love it. It's a good test. Yeah. We have the best meat, the best, the best, the best eggs, the best cheese. And we won't sell your kids until the child slavery. Oh, my God. Our stores are not on fire. But we'll always, guaranteed, we'll always have apples. Have apples. We always have apples. We always have apples.

[00:38:47] Because the Brian Polson and Viper going, wang, wang. I'm Len Faisley. Oh, my word. We've had new security cameras. His stores keep decreasing. His stores keep getting, like, down to one. And then he's on the back of the truck by the end. Back of the back of the truck. The back of the back of the truck. Grandpa, how much? Shut up, kid. Shut up, kid. Shut up, kid. I think, I think the one I loved was the, what was it? The one, oh, shit.

[00:39:16] The queen comes, the queen comes, says, how would you feel if I told you to say good night to, if I was to say good night to you and then walk out and not anybody. Oh, yeah. So this is like, where's the queen? She's outside. She's outside. Are you kidding? No, no, no. And they start chasing her. She's on the motor scooter. And then I loved the one where it was the Pope being chased. Oh, my word.

[00:39:44] And it's like, it's like, you know, we have to especially believe that the Pope may have been involved in this. So then it cuts to, like, the Pope is in a white Bronco being chased by the cops. That's right. Oh, my word. And then it's David Cross as a guy who's a Pope expert. He says, well, what's the thing you most hear? What's the thing you most hear at the Pope Museum in Kent, Ohio? Hey, what the hell are you doing here?

[00:40:13] And how many times did they spoof the Church of Satan? Oh, God. Oh, God. Like endless. And I got to bring up the under the indices of free. There's like a I just that that one of the final episodes like just was on fire. Like David Cross breaks into an intro song. I forgive you. And then I love how there was an aging Navajo skit.

[00:40:42] And the highlight for me was the Vietnam War movie. The hell in a handbasket. Mm hmm. It's like I like the I like the one. I like the one that give the last black man in Mississippi. Like, you know, here you go. Here's official. Here's official Mississippi bucks. Oh, my word. And they did that. Oh, that goes back to the first episode. Yeah. Yeah. I've changed for a dollar. No. Tell them. No. Let me see. Let me see. Let me see.

[00:41:11] The droopy character always cracks me up because it's like, oh, my word. It's like, can I have a. Yeah. It's just like keep the chunge. Keep the chunge. And then and then Cross comes in is like this hipster. He's like, he's like, so he doesn't see that movie last night on TV. No, I don't watch TV. Nor do I listen to the radio. Nor do anything else. The Trollah. The Trollah. So then it goes. So then it cuts to these two kid Jersey. And what was the other guy?

[00:41:41] And they had it. Yeah. I think. Cricket. Megaphone crewers. Time machine. Time machine. God, I'm going to go. Time machine. Electric sports bra. Electric sports bra. Electric sports bra. And Tom Kinney says, I wonder what happened to those guys. Kid Jersey. Oh, my word. Oh, wait. They're right over there. They're like working. They're working in the movie theater. Oh, my God. My son and I will look at each other and go. Electric sports bra. Electric sports bra. Electric sports bra. Thank you.

[00:42:11] You've introduced him to it. I think he invented it. Thank you. He was the first one to say it. Yeah. Oh, my word. That sketch reminds me of the one with the guy who's trapped. Who's like tied up in the kids in the hall sketch. The guy who's like tied up. And he's like, he doesn't like show you're fit to be tied. And, you know, it's kind of like that. It's kind of like that. Like that crossover backwards to where the kids in the hall were. You know, do you remember indomitable spirit?

[00:42:40] Oh, I've got no legs and I'm a woman. I'm a woman. Yeah. That's a good one. That one took a couple of years before I really got that. I was like, oh, wow. Like that was, that was. True story. The one I loved was the guy who's like, they make like a movie of the week where his parents are like, you know, like mentally retarded. Bob. Yeah. He's like, he's like, what did you get? He knows. Yeah. Bob, what'd you get for, what'd you get for lunch? Peanut butter. Dice. Dice. Dice. And egg.

[00:43:11] And silver. And then they do that movie. They did this movie like a couple of years ago where the girl was married. The girl was like, you know, born. She was normal. The kids, the two, the two parents were like mentally retarded. And I was like, holy shit. They just did a Mr. They just did an hour and a half of Mr. Show. Oh, there's so many things that, that sketches that they did where it's like, that really just happened. Yeah. I can't believe they went there. The McGreeley political, the, the, the, uh, we'll return after these messages.

[00:44:41] never been to the sports bar before and I'm really having a blast and I wanted you to try watching. Uh, Bob and Dave on this. I'm in the show. Cause I've seen it and it's a great show. It's funny. It's hilarious. You gotta watch it. Mr. Show with Bob and David premieres Friday at midnight only on HBO. Yeah. The political ads going back and forth. Yeah. That that's happened for the last like 15 years. Like, Oh, he's terrible. He eats broccoli on Sundays. Oh, that's awesome.

[00:45:11] That's something you should be afraid of. Going back a couple of references ago. I, I literally had a job once where we had a, a video about diversity and they talked about, and one of the people on there with, and he said, I'm gay and I love dogs. And now that you mentioned it, it's like, that should be something out of Mr. Show. Mr. Show. Oh my word. It's today Mr. Show. Or Operation Hell on Earth.

[00:45:42] Like, we're going to drive it into the middle of the desert. We're going to play Billy Oceans, Caribbean Queen. Oh my word. Oh, so loud. Where are you going to put all the Arabs? We're going to put them in New Arabia over here. Oh my word. Tom Kenny's hoping that was a surface one. Oh. That's great. I think that's so weird how he's like the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants. Yeah.

[00:46:12] And then I, then I, then I told my, my nephew, like, you know, he was on a show and I'm a show called Mr. Show. Yeah. And he swore and he did a lot of great sketches. He kind of swore on Stripperella and a few other ones, but I know what you mean. I love, I love the global chem one where it's like, he's like, bags, bags, bags. You have tons of bags, but where are you going to put them? He's like, help me. He's like, oh honey, where's all the bags? I put them in the bag. Oh, no shit. Oh, you think, you think that one's good? You just do this one. Yes.

[00:46:41] We went to a genuine King, you know, King Kong, King Kong burger. Oh my God. Yes. What'd you think of these burgers? Oh, these burgers. They're so fucking great. Yeah. They're so goddamn good. Hey, I said my family, family of four, a burger, 20 bucks. Yeah. And with the price of beef going through the fucking roof, it's unbelievable. What about you two guys? I brought this cocksucker here and shut up. I'll just eat the fucking burger. Oh my God. What about all the swearing?

[00:47:08] No, people, people like swearing now. It's okay. It's okay. You're on HBO. And plus it's Pit Pat. Well, what about this? The girls would be, hey lady, I don't come down and slap the dick out of your, come down over here and slap the dick out of your mouth. What did you say? I just said the new phrase for grandma Betsy's baking powder biscuits. Oh my word. Wasn't that a man? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, the fastest growing population are transsexuals. They buy and think for two.

[00:47:37] And I'm like, I'm like, oh, wow. Yeah. Do you remember when they spoofed inside the actor's studio? Yes. There was even a prisoner moment, I think, where it's like, he's about to be executed. Like, and that's the intro to one of the episodes in season one. Which then shows up on the rest of development, which is great. Right? Oh my God. See, everything is like on the rest of the building.

[00:48:05] Well, the one I love is Bob Odenkirk doing the voiceovers, you know, with Tom. He's like, okay, Bob. Okay. Let's do this one. All right. Void. Yeah. Coupon is voided now. Okay. Yeah. Should not be, should not be, should not be confused with the, with the disease cancer. He says, Mr. Pickles abortion clinic. We bring out the kid in you. That's my word. Oh my God. He couldn't keep a straight face through that one. He laughed through that one. He couldn't keep a straight face through that one. I bet he did.

[00:48:34] Did he write it? He cracks up. And then this one says, Harvard memory, Harvard memory law school founded in 1962, 1975, and again in 1981. Oh my God. What about, what about the, uh, Hitler clones? Oh my word. The only Hitler. That felt like it was like a total, like a drive in movie kind of like parody. The makeup on it was the best.

[00:49:03] I feel like I understand my character. Ooh. Uh, yeah. And there's so many ones where you're like, Oh my word. Like, and I think the thing is, I don't think any other people are like, I don't think that our comedian could pull it off. Like they just wouldn't. No, they wouldn't know how to restrict themselves and how to like, no, when is like, okay, point may go on to the next crazy moment before you even have time to think. And, um, right. Segway. Yep. Quick segue.

[00:49:32] I mean, there were some, there were some sketches that kind of lost, lost me. Like the one where the, the house of the future. That was hilarious. I thought I got to watch it again. I got to watch it again to get it, you know, but it was like, if you're not feeling it on certain days, you just got to come back to it. Like it, some of it is going to even be in better. Like if anything, I think this. I think the house of the future also have. Yeah. I am with rapist. Uh, Larry close.

[00:50:02] Oh my God. Rapist. Yeah. I'm with rapist. I love, I love the new San Francisco. People just don't want to buy insurance these days. But I, I think, I think the one I loved was the new San Francisco one where they did, they did like a takeoff on Disney taking over time square. Yes. And it's like, they predicted Disney. They predicted what Disney was going to do to time square, you know, make it, make it

[00:50:32] family friendly. So, so they're like, they're like, Hey, they're shopping. Look. Oh honey. Look, there's gay people. No, come on. Let's exercise. Work it, work it, work it. Does that lead into the same segment in season three where Bob just like streaks into like a bar, just butt ass naked. What is it called streakathon or streak? Yeah. It's like streakathon or something. Yeah. This is why. And everyone's giving a thumbs up. Nice ass. That's a pretty great streak.

[00:51:03] He gets beat up too. He does. Yeah, that's right. So talk about. He's like crying while he has to redress. They make him put clothes on. I'm so ashamed I have to put on clothes. Well, and the funny thing was when they discovered that you could play off the, they had the, the, the guy that would end sketches, he would just walk around and go, okay, you're done. I feel like that inspired the interrupter on Conan kind of. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Kind of like a Monty Python bit. Yes.

[00:51:33] Yes. Yeah. The night that we're coming to hit people. No, no. It's the night that hits people over the head with a chicken. That's how they were. Yeah. Or, or with a fish. It's gotten entirely too silly. Stop that. That's silly. Stop that. That's silly. Or the bad news breakers. Or maybe my wife. The bad news. We're the bad news breakers. Oh, my word.

[00:52:01] I love the two little girls who just says, the two little girls are like, you have cancer. Your wife's cheating on you. Your son's a hot girl. You just say like the worst things. That was a good bit. Yeah. Oh, God. Yeah, that's great. Right. I miss, I miss that show. I mean, that, that takes me back to a time when it was like, you know, it was like 2021 when that came on. So it was kind of like, were you out of college?

[00:52:30] I was still in, I was actually, I was going to community college and I was just about to go to William Patterson. So I was just about to go to like, you know, the four year school. And, uh, you know, cause community college is two years and then they, they say, okay, out you go. Yeah. And, uh, you did your time here, go up to the big house. Um, so what happens is that like, I went there and like, I was just telling people about the show. Yeah. Mr. Show, you should watch it.

[00:52:56] So they did have HBO on and there were a couple of people who watched it, but look mom tooties. No, no, but the thing was like, I would be like, I had come home from work like late at night and I'd watch Mr. Show. I just turned it on, you know, on a Friday night after Dennis Miller was on. Cause I'd watch Dennis Miller. Then I watched Mr. Show. So, and before that, they had done hardcore TV. Yeah.

[00:53:22] Which was the one that, uh, you ever see that Ryan, where it was, uh, like just all just various, just bizarre skits, just basically like mad TV on steroids. Yeah. That sounds good. So they did one, they did one on heart on hardcore TV called raging bullwinkle. Yeah. That's right. Where it was done where it was done with, uh, it was like, yeah, it's like Martin Scorsese and Jay Ward present raging bullwinkle.

[00:53:52] Five stars, rich George of the jungle. I've never seen anything this good. It's a Dudley do right. You know? And it was like, it's like, Hey, you hit like a girl. Punch me. Punch me. You faggot. Hey, did you fuck them? You know, it's like, he's just telling all the segments, but they're doing all the like the nearest lines are being done by like a guy who sounds like bullwinkle. And I think the God it's Billy, it's Billy West.

[00:54:19] Cause it's like, he's like, Hey, you hit like a, you hit like a fag. Come on. Hit me. Hit me. You know, was that tied in with like raging Rudolph too? No, no, no, no, no. That was, what was that TV? That was, that was mad TV. Yeah. And that was before they did the R rated Pillsbury doughboy ones. Yeah.

[00:54:43] I would be remiss if I, if I didn't bring up a great season free skit. I don't know if it's on YouTube or not, but it should be where a crappy drummer gets kicked out of the band, but he breaks his arm prior to them deciding to fire him. And he just can't take a joke. He's like, Ooh, I thought you wanted me in here. No, we were actually, you, you beat us. I don't know if it's on the punch.

[00:55:10] Like, I love the guy who's taking guitar lessons. And he's like, no, no, no, no. What was the one? Oh, the one I loved was the band makes the sex tape. Oh my God. They're having sex. Wicked Scepter. Wicked Scepter. Wicked Scepter. Yeah. Show me your weenus. And it was like, and then I love your weenus. I think that's what they called that the episode, right? That was the name of the episode. Yeah. I think there's many of them. Those are the names of the episodes.

[00:55:40] The one, the one I loved was when they had the guy come in. He's like, you know, he is your number one fan. Yeah. Yeah. He fell into a deep fryer. He tried to suicide by trying to. That's Titatica. What was it? That was a Titatica bit. Okay. Yeah. I have the song about killing yourself so that. Oh, my word. Oh, yeah. He looked like a wet slim Jim afterwards. He jumped to Nevada acid. Jumped to Nevada acid.

[00:56:10] So then it comes to David Cross and he's just like, he looks like a, like a hot dog. Yeah. Yeah. Like art, like with little arms and legs, like a Mr. Potato Head, like, but a hot dog version with his head on it. Do you want to like here? Here's a, here's a t-shirt for you to wear. Yeah. Well, they give him the lifetime pass to all their shows and then they write a new song too, called Try Again. Try Again. They give him the lifetime pass to all the, backstage pass to all their shows in the

[00:56:38] future and then they pull the sheet back and they see what he looks like. They're trying to take that. Like, oh my God. He looked like a wet cigar. Their music ones are so good. Like Maryland Monster. Oh, God. Oh, my God. Maryland Monster. Yeah. I love them. I love how they, they, they took the shit out of Oasis. They were like, they're like, how are you feeling? Yeah. Greeny. Sweet. Same on any. Yeah. Blew up. Bloody. It is the banana.

[00:57:07] I posted that a couple of weeks ago when they announced the reunion. Oh, did you see, wait, did you see the fad? I love the one, the fad three. Yes. The fad three. It was literally, little rubles to it. Yeah. It was good. Oh, fad three. Oh man. Yeah. Or Jesus. Or was it Jeepers Creepers? Semi-star. Jeepers Creepers was, that's a great one. Jeepers Creepers was hilarious. That, that fricking outlet in the middle of the, where they're at just cracks me so much.

[00:57:38] And I'm surprised so many actual suits didn't watch this. They, they must've been, if they did, they were probably intimidated. It's like, ah, we thought of a crossover like that. How to tie in a pizzeria with a video game place. Yeah. What happens if you screw up, screw up? You gotta wear the underwear of, what's it? They gotta wear like a bloody diaper. Bloody diapers. Bloody diapers. Oh God. Oh my word. Oh. That was a first defense punishment. Yeah. What was the one?

[00:58:06] They have so many punishments. What was the one? It was the guy who was like the, he had the stick of justice. The stick of justice. Oh my word. I think it was in his, it was doing it. It was the mustache. Yeah. Wood, Woodcock. Yeah. W.F. Woodcock or something like that. W.F. Woodcock. Something, something like that. W.C. Adam. Yeah. That's a funny bit. Oh God. I, yeah.

[00:58:34] I just, I mean, they would come up with some things where I'd be like, what the hell are they going with? Was that the guy that we talked about, talk about crime or something? Yeah. Yeah. I think that's the same guy that Mulaney makes fun of. Like Mulaney does a whole bit on. It was like Crime Stoppers or something. On John Mulaney. Yeah. Yeah. Where you can scare the kids, like go to high school and scare the kids out of crime. Yeah. I think that might've been. Start shaking a stick around or beating them off. Oh my God. Well, you want, you want something funny?

[00:59:03] Like we had, we had one of those in high school or grade school. We had one of those guys come in. They're like, this one guy comes in. He's like, yeah, I did five years for killing a man. And like everybody in the, everybody in the, in the crowd is going like, whoa, like, whoa. Like, wow. I'm going like, I'm going like, I'm thinking to myself, okay, how did you do it? Yeah. Prove it. He's like, he's like, then the one guy goes, at first I got into drugs. At first I got into drinking.

[00:59:31] Then I get into drugs and I started robbing people. I robbed my own family. In that order. I robbed my friends. And then I got into jail. Right. Let me tell you something about jail. I was fresh meat when I walked in there and like, everybody's going fresh meat. What is a butcher shop? My buddy goes, he goes, Jesus, fresh meat. It must be a nice place. Like, no, no, let me tell you what happens. And he says, we don't need to hear what happens. Okay. Okay. Fine. Fine. You know, but they used to do that. They used to have like a scared. We had a line. Yeah.

[01:00:00] They used to do the scared straight. They used to do the scared straight for like all the tough kids at school. Yeah. And the tough kids would come back and be like, be like, eh, dang. Like my old man told me. I'm like, Oh, Jesus Christ. You're going to go real far in life. You know? Real. They always did any like business meeting just to a T. He's like, Oh yeah. I wonder if an actual business executive has come up with something that inept or dumb.

[01:00:29] Well, I work for a company where everybody comes up with things that are inept and dumb, and they're usually implemented. And then we realize they're inept and dumb. Yeah. Usually five of those types of ideas are recommended and people back them up. They usually get it. Then they don't go very well. Makes an ass out of you and me. Yeah. We'll do that. No problem. Yeah. That's no problem at all. Yeah, we'll do that. Yeah. That sounds great. That sounds great. I'm a yes man.

[01:00:59] Well, the other one that's interesting too, is watching the Don Pratt ad and then watching Better Call Saul. Ah, yeah. And probably that's true. I mean, or Van Hammersley too. I get vibes from, I wonder, I, I'm sure the Breaking Bad guys were Mr. Show fans, but I wouldn't be surprised if that inspired the German chemical engineer on that show as well. Probably. Oh, probably. Yeah, I would think so.

[01:01:27] He has that kind of vibe of like, Mr. Show or Tim and Eric's. And I think that's why he was hired. I think they think somebody was a Mr. Show fan. Vince, the guy that came up with Breaking Bad. Because it didn't make sense. Remember how it didn't make sense at the time? That they hired him to do anything? Yeah. What's the guy who writes all the funny episodes on the X-Files? Who knew? Yeah, yeah. What's he going to do on the X-Files? The thing I love about the Van Hammersley one.

[01:01:55] The Van Hammersley one is like, I kind of look at it as like predicting what the future is going to be like for education. Oh, man. Yeah. Because I love the fact that he's like, there's the old Selch and here comes Crystal Mark bringing up the room. Like, holy shit. You know? And then he goes, 1500 people were killed in a bus in London in 1957. It was blown away. It's just, here we are at the war. It's the Hollywood Awards.

[01:02:24] Here comes Humphrey Bobbott. Judy, Judy, Judy. Judy. There comes those crack ups. And then he said, and that's what Lincoln said. Don't, don't diss my homies. Don't diss my homies. You're right. That's like Schoolhouse Rock. Yeah. Educating, educating kids with billiards. Oh my word. Oh God. Yeah. Then you take the sum of the parts, divide it by the square, and that's how you get quantum physics, you know. They didn't do a few.

[01:02:54] Totally. Totally. They did have a few animated sequences, which were really good. Like, even though it was just, you know, parody, but like, kudos to the puppeteers. And yeah. Uh, I think the one I loved was, is the one who takes the bird, the bird, and he flies, he flies through the air. And then he drops it. And hey, look what I got. Let's see what's in it. And it's just a little bit just a bobbing. And you can get the air. Yeah. Which is how they started it, right?

[01:03:25] I quote the crap promises from time to time to people. Oh yeah. Oh gee. What was that one? Wait, what was that one? I'm not a lawyer. Oh, Don Pratt. I know when to leave. Oh yeah. I promise not to have sex with you. Oh my word. The Don? The Don Pratt. Everybody have the order incorrect on that, but they are something like that. Yeah, that's the dumb. Well, that's the other thing too. Like put them in any order and they are funny.

[01:03:54] I am not a lawyer. I will not try to have sex with you. I don't want to leave. I know when to leave. That was the third promise. That's right. I went to say goodbye and he was gone. Oh my word. See? I'm whoring myself out here, aren't I? Does anybody know, like who played the talking junkie? Oh. Ah. Because that Mr. Ed thing was, oh, it was so good. That was a good bit.

[01:04:24] I don't, I didn't recognize. There were so many times where. Wait a minute, Ackerman. Sometimes you can make out their voice and other times they're like, I wish you guys would credit who you're playing. Yeah, exactly. Would have cost extra to credit people though, so. Please. The thing I love is Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp, Dino Stamp is in that, is in that show. Yes. Oh, before Community? Wow. No, he would do, he would do Moral Oral and. Yeah. And Community. And Community.

[01:04:53] Yeah, he'd do Community, he'd do Moral Oral. I wouldn't have watched Moral Oral if I hadn't known that he was involved in it. Like that show was super hard to find, but man, that show's funny. Davey and Goliath. That was a funny show. He pissed off on Davey and Goliath. Yes. That was so good. I remember watching that when I was super little. Yeah. Davey and Goliath or Moral Oral? Davey and Goliath. I think that's what made Moral Oral way funnier to me. Oh, totally. Yes.

[01:05:24] God cares, Davey. I don't think I would have liked it too much if I just wasn't familiar. I don't think it's a good idea. I forgot he was on the Dana Carvey show. Oh, that's right. I don't Pete. I don't. Peterson had one of the best things about Davey and Goliath. He says, you know, you know, you can watch Davey and Goliath like two, six o'clock in the morning after a mammoth crystal meth binge. Oh my God. You know, cause the thing was, it was like, it would come on, like, you know, it'd be

[01:05:52] set Sunday morning and like, you know, Sunday morning, you don't want to watch cartoons, but then also, you know, there'd be this, you know, and you'd be like, yeah. brought you by the lutheran church and and you realize you realize the guy who played otis the drunk played the voice of the father yeah that's right oh my and the mother the mother was the was the mom in real life the mom was the voice of gumby i think oh i didn't know that oh what

[01:06:22] and yeah and the thing i love is like if you have you gotta look it up you gotta see you gotta watch opie and anthony and otto otto and george um the officer bob sketch and it's it's hilarious when they talk about officer bob because officer like like jimmy's like yeah officer bob was uh was was it was a lego of him when somebody found his supply of german

[01:06:47] shit porn in the in the closet of the house had pictures of him and assless chaps and i was like holy shit you know well you know what you're right i think i think david glass was done by cloaky that did yeah our cloaky did david and goliath yeah yeah they did they wanted they wanted somebody who could like it comes around and you've all seen you've all seen gummy the movie

[01:07:11] right yeah yeah that movie is so out it's so it's like mr show out there i've watched i've watched i've watched robot rumpus on uh mystery science hero 3000 so you know that just squires my breasts who do you think would have been perfect for like mr science theater or riff tracks or cinematic titanic well for like any of these mr show oh pretty much all of them i think the guy everybody

[01:07:40] on that show is great all topkins seem to have be more of a riffraff all jay johnson's got time yeah 10 to 5 and 5 to 10 it'd be funny if they put him in a purge movie and he was like the first guy who dies or something now you're gonna be the first one to get killed by who um a cross you a uh cross one of the crazy

[01:08:06] people you hang out with one of the crazy people you don't like um it'd be funny he gets killed he gets killed by odin kirk you know it's like he's just like he's just like your traitor kills him kills him like moly robin uh in indiana jones you betrayed the sketch show you betrayed the players wow um i gotta bring up the netflix reboot show like

[01:08:35] they they went to town just having i i know you practice law right but it's like what do you think of all the constant like judge judy type it was a stare it's brilliant like it's really they have when you remember that he's been solved for a couple years at that point too right yeah 2015 influenced it's like they had bob as a ufc guy and ryan potion who's the victim who's more hostile than

[01:09:01] he is and so he just keeps just knocking him out and bob's like i didn't do anything well do you remember the bad cop bad cop sketch yes it's like dude this is like the most inept interrogation i've been a part of what are you and it's like then they start pointing guns at each other he's like whoa whoa whoa put our guns down shut up and i think doesn't he walk out at the end of

[01:09:27] the he walks out because they've had a mental breakdown they're like i don't even know if i'm the good cop anymore oh i love that one that was that felt like the old show like that there were a couple yeah that was heaven is totes for real is is definitely like classic mr show sketch where the kid gets on he's talking about all the people he saw in heaven all in heaven yeah there was a middle

[01:09:49] eastern sketch and they had adolf hitler what oh my god uh they had some middle eastern comedians on there who were really awesome uh and network exec skits and uh there was an oscars mock show and a fake bait movies and forget brewster was in was with uh bob or david yeah david and the he's basically

[01:10:15] making fun of like i mean they make fun of like kind of great garden style like documentaries on that and even documentary now but like there is like you're you can totally tell like they are making fun of just like all these movies that are classics but no one knows how to explain like why they're classics yeah there's a shark kitchen a reality show with a dishonest contestants and maryland was in that one it's it's funny too because i would compare the the reboot show to the kids in the hall reboot they

[01:10:42] did like two three oh yeah yeah like that kind of uh let's let's just kick amazon while they're giving us money yeah i was like sure amazon you can take us but we're also gonna make fun of you um do you think do you think do you think michael king of michael key was amazing as like uh the bad cop pulling him over oh you think you're funny that was a good sketch i thought it was i thought

[01:11:10] then he was like in the fifth episode too and like another bit where it's just like he's just finding other reasons to get pulled over is like i'm urinating right now and but the final episode was just amazing because like then they showed like what an actual like writing session is for them yeah it's like and they're saying it out loud and bob's cracking out while he's typing it up he's like don't say that don't say that i can't say that with a straight face

[01:11:39] yeah i mean there was there was some sketches i mean i thought i liked it overall like i don't i don't know if i think i'm so biased i don't think i wouldn't have liked it um but there was it's okay to be biased but the resolution sketch where they're all talking about their resolutions and what they're going to do and the one guy's like i'm gonna i finally decided i'm gonna move to hollywood make big budget movies oh great for you i'm finally gonna do this one guy says he wants

[01:12:03] to stop eating red meat and they looked at him like he was crazy oh my word you love red meat i'm gonna fly up space shuttle oh we'll support you any way we can i'm gonna stop eating red meat the one the one i loved mr show sketch and a lot of people i i still think it's just it's just off the hook is they have michael mckean show up as the professor and they do it like the yeah it's like a

[01:12:29] wall class oh yeah it's like a wall class and the one girl goes damien this is for you and then paul confus goes there wasn't a chicken there was a baby i think that's probably where the where the idea to use them as brothers for breaking bad better all saul came from probably right yeah oh with mckean yeah yeah yeah which was a brilliant be appointed uh odenkirk's character to like head

[01:12:57] the class while you want to go do something i mean i'm sure an average comedian was already a final tap fan yeah yeah that was a brilliant choice to bring him in on that like that i'm not necessarily breaking bad fan i like my watch my wife's watched like three times through i know enough to watch it but better call saul i've watched straight through a couple times like that my my girl this was the same way he was like i can't stand the drug family but i like the crooked

[01:13:24] lawyer who's having to deal with assholes that's fun yeah for sure yeah or i did did did vonny's man mustard mayonnaise come out mustard mayonnaise no i don't think we did oh my words oh god that's a great let's get the hell out of here okay okay you know what's weird wording mail will expire before mayonnaise or mustard i saw a commercial for someone was just like that

[01:13:52] and i was like they totally stole that from mr yeah that's what i thought that too when i see that maybe someone must have finally gotten it 20 years too late come on let's get out of here i'm rescuing you from this that arianna character that just cracked me up oh my word or they when they when they come over to see remember the sketch where they come to see the new baby

[01:14:20] what's your name time again t yeah it's time again t now oh my god oh come let's show us the baby you've adopted you've i love i love the age i love the one like he's like slave come here slave slave come here you know he's like he's like he's like he's like i'm going to eat glass i'm going to all the glasses oh my lord i want you to put this banana up your ass and walk with it

[01:14:50] i must do what i must do i have lost a bet when i was in the room oh man like what was it was there a sketch with kato kaolin in it no little yeah that was i think there was that was the one where the actor actually has brain surgery to play like a brain dead person that's right and it's brian it's brian austin green brian austin green brings kato kaolin in i think oh my lord i was like i was going i was going like what the fuck is kato kaolin but

[01:15:17] i think they just were like hey you want to come on you know while you're still relevant you know and i think they said that to brian austin green too but you know let's do it while you're hot do it while you're hot quick let's do it while you're rocket hot okay oh man i'm telling you i honestly i wish i was lying i quote this show at some point every single

[01:15:43] day there's there's something that comes up every single day where i i do it you know i say so and half the people i'm gonna need a hacksaw yeah no no idea what i'm talking about at all or you know when i say uh send your crank to frank what was the what was the line i ain't afraid of no roly coaster like i've said that for fun well i'm two minutes underwater i just i just love the one where it's senator tanker bell is like now i'm here at this valdustin georgia for this folk festival

[01:16:12] and jelly off and what are you doing wow i'm old spindler and i'm here to tell you the old story about a voli oh limberlakes been walking we're walking down the green he's like he's like now why does mr limberlakes have no clothes on i find myself aroused and titillated by this i mean look at this you've got women dipping wax you know women trading butter

[01:16:38] like i'm on a pre i'm on a prairie prairie prairie pornographic shut this thing down you know you did it perfectly they do accents really well even though it's just a spoof i wonder how many people they knew from like tennessee or arkansas or well i know cross was in georgia because he was like yeah and i know mary lynn was dating him around that same time and she

[01:17:04] came from a very conservative family and became pretty liberal years later and so isn't this wild like they all had an unusual upbringing when i when i saw her her parents were like in the second row and her show is blue oh wow and every once in a while she'd say my parents are here listening to all this like it was really funny they were dating at that point and then i think she stayed on after they weren't for a while too yeah you see he married amber camlin i think not long after that's right

[01:17:33] but she co-starred with bob in uh girlfriend's day that one netflix movie oh yeah that's right oh yeah i forgot yeah yeah so there's like there's this thing there's this thing that cracks me up the most is like when you watch it and you think about like odenkirk and and cross now how they're like you know odenkirk is now you know so weird saying david with a beard highly praised he's being highly praised as like an actor and you know he just he did that movie where it was um where he was the

[01:18:00] guy who just beats the shit out of people yeah nobody oh nobody nobody which i love yeah and you see david now he's very like you know he just makes fun of everything and everybody yes and you know i love when he talked about the bit about i watched i listened to him one time we were talking about like getting the shot for covid and he's like he's like he starts making fun of everybody who's like i'm not taking that shot because the government doesn't control me okay and they don't control me

[01:18:27] and they don't control you and i'm not getting the shot because because i have i have a i have i have a medical condition a medical condition it's called and he just it says something i've heard that and i was like and i was like i was like holy shit he just nailed everybody i know who was like vehemently against you know the the whole you know taking the vaccine summed it all up is like you know how many excuses could he come up with but like i mean i've always he's always i think he was one of

[01:18:54] the few comedians who never got in any political hot water like it was just so funny like i remember post 9 11 he had a funny skit about the stupidest thing larry the cable guy once told him and like uh larry that's not how this shit works well he was the guy and his stand-up right after like i don't say 2000 and of 2001 where he talked about the week there was no football i've always i've always loved his stand-up his stand-up is just like it's he just comes off as an

[01:19:24] everyday guy trying with just very unusual wit you're just like yeah well i think i think part of it too with the both of them mr show is like when people would say oh that's offensive but they offended everybody like southwark yeah i make i make the i make the comparison to like 24 where people say well yeah they're just picking on one group as terrorists no everybody every nationality was a terrorist at some point on 24 in the same in the same way like mr show just hit everybody

[01:19:54] like it was just the x files they called everybody on stuff uh someone making fun of television south park south park yep south park definitely yeah like like the anti-cartoon you can't really blame one right because they because they hit everybody at some point right across the board like every there's there's offensive stuff all the way across the daily show i think one said it is like don't worry we'll get to you yeah give it time give it time but yeah like especially

[01:20:24] like especially uh the uh the operation hell on earth sketch like it just it just hits everybody right across the board and it's it's frighteningly true but it was it was really well done uh i i wonder how many of them were scarred just going to just very radical churches growing out they're like mom dad stop bringing me to this i know i know they were taking notes i know that i know that david cross was i know david cross was jewish but he said when growing up in georgia being like one of the

[01:20:53] few jewish kids in georgia yep it's like he experienced that like anti-semitism that wasn't anti-semitism yeah it was with a smile you know like now david we're having ham are you allowed to have ham oh he says well i don't know i can have it but i'm you know it's just generally against my religion well you know you know you your people you know we do think your people did did kill christ

[01:21:19] he's like well yeah but you know it's like thousands of years ago you know who cares you know he's like he's like he's like he's like well you know we're just told this in the bible you know oh my god it's like and he's just like he's like he's like and i just hear that voice that sugary syrupy voice the sheep that southern women make when they're trying to tell you you know you're not worth anything but you know you yeah you are yeah you know yeah you know

[01:21:48] i think they all i think they all took notes oh god oh they had to you know with moral oral like he was taking notes all the way through there's good comedy in there yeah there is um and um i i read somewhere once that the biggest group of atheists are are typically come from former catholics yeah yeah oh wow

[01:22:14] and it kind of makes sense if you really think all that reserved lifestyle now you look back at the comedy of george carlin too he talked a lot about growing up in a catholic and but then also talking about all the other things that he experienced in in um morningside heights which he which he hated but um it was called what do you what he used to call it white harlem yeah it was white harlem that's right yeah

[01:22:43] morningside heights i think that's why they were so good at making fun of so many things because like half the time they're making you realize half a bit an insult generally doesn't make sense to begin with you know you're like what what does that mean you know and you do see it in their stand-up and i'm surprised bob and hasn't done more and with mary lynn she's done so much she's been on sketch shows i'm

[01:23:10] surprised she hasn't hosted her own thing she's ready you know oh totally yeah absolutely yeah yeah well and it's interesting too like i didn't know about the connection with ackerman until like i was already hooked on comedy bang bang oh when i when i watch it i go oh yeah that makes sense like there's a lot of mr show flavor throughout yes comedy bang bang just some of the there's four ball did you remember the sketch with four ball and it's uh oh it's a nice show

[01:23:41] what's his name monahan bobby mon bobby morning bobby monahan yeah just look up four ball and comedy bang bang it is it is the most mr show thing about that it's just it's so funny and you don't know why you're laughing just like every time i watch mr show for sure but but ackerman you need there's a thread of like an ackerman wasn't on a lot right near more near the end of the series if i if i remember correctly uh i don't think was ackerman

[01:24:10] involved at the beginning of mr show well it was towards the end i think it was toward the end yeah yeah and i just i think i just was watching episode i'm like hey i know that guy but yeah like there's there's a thread of mr show throughout comedy bang bang if you haven't watched that yet that's that's a pretty funny show why what i'll have to look that up i've seen it here and there but yeah just look at four you are v el just look at four ball and it's it's just

[01:24:35] it's out of control it's out of control it's very stabby this is very stabby but they've all they've all gone to do like really cool things like when you kind of look at the the list of people that were involved at mr show it it's like if i see somebody's name on it like that i'll watch it even if it's not because i'm like oh paul f thomkins is on something okay yes yes he's hosted so many champion the drinker

[01:25:07] in the sarah silverman program arguably is probably the the next step from mr show i mean that's where dan harman community creator got his start but i mean how they portrayed god on there was wild tucker smallwood oh there were so yeah there's like there's so many so many great just lines that were like her drinking the the uh cough syrup at the at the pharmacy oh my god

[01:25:33] it's funny that you mentioned um dana harman because one of the things i thought of when watching some of that uh some of mr show was that there were a lot of things absurd concepts and they reminded me a lot of the different classes that they that they had at greendale and they're all like useless classes like there's like a who's the boss class yes what

[01:25:59] i think mr show like to me that's why i love sketch comedy but mr show will always be the top one even over python which a lot of people get upset about but i'm like they they created so many shows out of just doing mr show for four years that was typing out loud with their buddies they were yeah friendly atmosphere i think writers came out of like oh i guess we can do anything because mr show did i can do anything i just i just love i just love the one with the two

[01:26:29] my favorite thing about it was first off seeing bob owen kirk doing god as uh as um what you'll call it um stop what you call the guy who's the producer oh uh oh shit yeah like oh the one where he's recording god the body he's recording god's autobiography is god

[01:26:53] yes he's playing like uh like a robert robert uh oh robert evans robert evans you know yeah yeah i'm like the kid stays in the picture yeah yeah he's like a super wall picture of super wall sunday 1976 i got i got a prayer from terry bradshaw please come on come on terry i'm having a schvitz all right you'll hit that path deep in the end zone you know and then the one i loved was

[01:27:22] the one i loved was oh man i'll beat you stupid ass i'll kick you like the two guys are arguing they fall like they have an argument over a sweater and they like break up he's like that's something stupid ass you know so god has a nightclub that's heaven he comes out he's got he's got the limo he's like thank you he's like he's like my son to my son jesus

[01:27:47] i love you babe that's one of the best i think that was one of my favorite and the one with the guy having them talking about the monster party you know dr demented dr demented instead of demento yeah that's good oh man oh no your rights know your lefts know your middles

[01:28:22] i don't think tenacious d in the pick of destiny would have happened no i don't think i think i think tenacious d kind of came out of that oh absolutely they discovered him they're like this dude's funny well they think that they got jack black and jack black was with kyle kyle glass already and like that's what i love about him like they he brian and sarah like i think that's why they learned how to be ensemble people because so many

[01:28:48] times you see them in skets especially in the uh subway argument sket yeah they're just like yeah just they they learned all the rules of improv like this is how you do improv you know it's like and i think a lot of people just think oh i i just am given you know suggestions in a hat i'm like no

[01:29:08] it's it's all kinds of things like if you negate the scene dies and yeah honestly just say yes more often just say yes sure i'll go to this stupid dance sure i'll go to this concert that i'm not interested in sure i'll get on the first plane and get there early you know why not why not make your life easier so yes

[01:29:41] it was good stuff man i i was i was yeah super excited about it i'm glad you could come by it's been a minute my dude it's been a while yeah yeah paul glad we could have you back on thank you most people don't say that about me but thank you very much what's that like who the hell is this guy um i do think the hbo max uh remastered it pretty well

[01:30:07] uh it wasn't like with some moments where i was watching shows like oz and larry sanders recently and it's like that looks like they had trouble adjusting the hd there just because of how it was filmed back then on the video cassette look you know it looks good on hbo max yeah i i thought so it wasn't i mean except when it's deliberately bad like it's one of the infomercials where it's

[01:30:34] gonna have a static breaking up yeah bag hutch or anything like that or like a drive-in movie yeah it's yeah and it's hard to believe that i think phil lord the lego movie guys he was one of the main directors on this you're like what the hell okay yeah truly everything everybody is awesome

[01:30:57] everybody uh both and david you're awesome uh i well what character would have made a better movie do you think well because ronnie is a funny character he's just the movie got chopped up to bits oh yeah yeah i mean for the 25th century i would watch in the 25th century that would be fun i would watch

[01:31:26] the story of evers over and over again that sounds like a screenplay to me i don't know i think i'll go i'll go a different route i would like to see sort of the second behind the music kind of thing with with the with with the two stores but the mom and pop store and the bigger store i would love to see that developed yeah it's pretty good it's fairly it's fairly it'd be a mockumentary much like

[01:31:56] spinal tap perfect yes we've got apples always had apples he's in a barrel of apples oh man well i wonder how many bad it'd be cool to even just do a random story of how many you know giant mom and pop places they went to in la just to get inspiration well but and how many of them are still active like still around

[01:32:26] yeah probably that's you i'm making fun of on that skit that i did 30 years ago i think all they do is kind of walk around and take notes just walk around drive yourself crazy i've walked around in san francisco i have not walked around in la so i don't know but where did the ventriloquism sketch came from that like oh i don't even know

[01:32:52] i mean because it was big they must have been at a party or something maybe seen some skit on jay little i guess could be east coast and west coast ventriloquism what was the what was the name of the the uh entertainment agency we have clients that don't use the f yeah uh fun what was uh handy evans at yes oh my god yeah i remember

[01:33:24] fun time was it fun time entertainment or something like that i think it was that was something like that now choo choo the herky jerky dancer maybe that was a aim at achy breaky heart did i miss the josh venderman discussion in honesty and emotion oh that's right and it's punkinitty

[01:33:53] oh man i forgot to bring out the top the topper most of all the line was something about him being the topper most artist of his of his century or something love that or what about the week what about week-long romance do you remember when the when the guys talking about how they broke up a week ago yeah then i then i joined a christian rock band oh that bit where the bit where they go to the uh pharmacist to get some medical marijuana

[01:34:23] yes yeah yeah oh no my favorite was the one where they did the joke the goof on the uh the kids the kids uh the kids show but they're all like i can't wait to get a job yeah maybe that was an inspiration for dust to smoochie i don't know i'm so tired of slacking off i better go get a job oh there is one in the reboot where they have the kid who's like

[01:34:53] saying offensive stuff he's like but you mom and dad you told me to say that for the joke or something like that it's that's right very zany and you just i mean like every sketch it's funny you brought up oh that's those other specific ones there was i just shared one with james last week which was the you're fired sketch i was like you were hired well you can't just do that fired again you can't just do that you're fired again hey you know what up yours

[01:35:22] yeah you know what what you're fired and you're just going the whole thing you're like are they doing this for real are they pranking each other nope they're being an asshole it really is firing him and then you know what you know what up yours too really yeah well you know what okay well is it up yours and and you know what i need someone like you with okay fine so they do that and then they're gonna yeah you don't up yours too really yeah and you're fired yeah

[01:35:52] and you know what what you're still fired you know oh my word i feel like he country with their own currency what was that season two oh yeah i love that yeah the young person and then they then they then they go to and frank's uh oh my god for the beanbag right

[01:36:22] yeah five beanbags all over the world i there was some similar sketches when chris rock had his own hbo sketch show that i definitely think came out of this around that same time a year later i think you're right i think you're right oh the offensive military recruitment yep how to get your ass kicked by the police so there you go bob and david still that for the no really yeah i really like the one bit where david cross was like uh

[01:36:52] the only member of his own country oh my god the only member his own currency like it was called new free land if i remember new free land and i am letting the jew run media take me over oh my god and that's the they did such a convincing job where i'm hoping if there was any shithead who tuned into it like they took one look in the mirror

[01:37:20] and said that's me i need to shut up i think a lot of people saw ronnie dobbs and said the same thing i need to check myself or i'll end up with my pants half pulled down am i the only one that loves ronnie run though i don't be the only one because i love ron i thought it was kind of amusing growing up but i watched it i was like it's kind of average but it's worth the for jeff goldman it really is i know i know they hate it because they they didn't edit it and cut it and all that but it's not as

[01:37:49] bad as they made it out to be it's just i think they just were too close to it you know but but the all are brutalizing me is one of the funniest things i love mandy patinkin no clothes on in the middle of the stage that like i showed my wife that she's a huge fan of mandy i'm like oh my god you haven't seen what he did on mr show what he did with oh my word oh brutalizing me

[01:38:18] i think yeah gary shantlin appeared in it i think yeah that's right yeah a lot of people showed up like i i've got it upstairs i might have to watch that again there you go man that was moral moral moral that's safe you have to be very careful when you say moral moral moral the moral of the story the moral of the story well moral we're gonna need you to bet oh no no no

[01:38:46] i think i'll watch davy david glas and then i'll watch moral oral i think you gotta realize with dating the life when they walk they walk they walk like they're like they have like some sort of like problem with their with their legs yeah they can't walk normally they got big like the big big ass feet like you know they're they're doing the keep on trucking thing you know i don't think your mother wants you to go into the well davy

[01:39:18] what about davy what about me telling you to shoot every blonde haired girl in a oh shut up goliath you know nobody's gonna see i'm not goliath i'm the son of sam that was that was oh my god yeah that's another you know what davy we talked about the simpsons parody

[01:39:44] davy davy you shouldn't park your car there you're gonna get parking tickets i'll be quiet goliath you know the cops are gonna be on to you davy you're gonna shut up davy you know what what go out and kill again in my name oh my god oh man that was so good the girl go all were davy and goliath fan listeners

[01:40:12] yeah sorry guys sorry not sorry um but i i feel like so many of us though i definitely feel like later mad tv definitely was inspired by how demented is like okay we don't want to be like snl but we do want to be as crazy as the magazine itself and i'm sure they were looking at mr show for standards i mean that especially during the big big bird got the bird flu skit well the thing i've

[01:40:38] always said about mr show was thank god it was on when sarah and live was going through that downturn because yeah i can remember saturday life being in such such a bad place well you know i mean that's it i mean sarah silverman you know she's like and garofo they're like we were traded terribly by lauren he didn't use us at all and so then what do we got to do other than help out on the ben stiller show and we win an emmy but it just got canceled and we're helping

[01:41:06] out our friend who's now become a big thing his name is conan well the thing the thing was was that you gotta realize like mr show comes on in 95 so 95 94 95 that's when sarah live episodes a season and you're like man that's yeah it's this it's a swing it's a swing you know like it was like they would like they would pull the plug on a lot of people a lot of people would just leave like you know like norm mcdonald norm mcdonald left he would have been

[01:41:36] amusing on this oh yeah he would have been great on that but i mean the thing i always said the thing i said was mr show was was like it was like saying okay look you don't need an hour and a half to do these great sketches you just need 30 minutes i mean ryan and i talked about how tv is now cable length where it's 10 to 12 episodes that and yeah writers love it because they don't have to risk having a filler episode that really only accomplishes night like a quarter of things you know yeah and i

[01:42:06] think the thing that that blows my mind is when you watch mr show you gotta realize it's the 1990s we're we're now it's almost 30 years before you even dial up you know we're 30 years after we're 30 years after that and look where we are comedy wise sketch wise nothing's nothing makes sense nothing's it's like you're getting weirder but not better yeah it's like they're getting weird it's like watching somebody fart in a bathtub and you're like okay and then you watch you look at

[01:42:34] later like oh they didn't fart you know they're just uh sitting on a duck you know but uh so i mean you know what that would be better if bob and david did oh yeah who sat on a duck in this bathtub why did you fart no i said on the no you said what's wrong with that so what if i did so what if i did

[01:42:57] oh my god all right oh man hey guys it's been a delight it is what we did are we getting concerts or no uh you know i can save that for our we can save that for our sexploitation one unless all right wanted yes that'll come out on valentine's day so oh yeah love exciting and rude

[01:43:25] come aboard you'll see those shoes too oh guess what good news for you james mr grindhouse uh the entire rose myer catalog just got bought by severin films oh yes i just heard that yeah but it's not the 20th century fox stuff it's not the it's not the seven minutes i know that's all the other stuff you can't it's it's it's the it's beneath the old super vixens be all the vixen super vixens and

[01:43:51] beyond uh beneath the beneath the valley ultra vixens which there's three key movies if you want to know what sexploitation is i just find it funny having to describe what a b-movie is to everybody i'm like see you know it can be something like indiana jones or phantasm or it can be a small you know low budget you know it's a stupid movie with you know here's something here's something funny i found out you guys there's a movie called kenny and company right it's a kids movie right yes yeah i just saw

[01:44:20] recently did the mr bubblegum guy yeah yeah did phantasm okay yeah the beastmaster yeah yeah the beastmaster phantasm so you have to think he does this little kids movie that everybody loves because kenny company's kenny company's a great movie to watch you have to watch it to like you know under you know it's a great movie to watch and then you he does phantasm like two years later and creeps everybody out of the trees everybody out and i'm like and like i just watched him

[01:44:49] i just watched mystery science theater recently and um they did the movie munchie right oh my word god and i realized andrew stevens angus scrimmage in that movie as the when he's having the like he's having his daydream about being you know dead in the in the coffin who ryan will love is a big 24 fan you know he loves using stock footage and having all these adult film stars and using stock footage

[01:45:18] of monsters and explosions from better movies but he loves using the tall man in that and uh wow yeah what's the kill bot movie uh chopping mall yes chopping mall he's in there briefly as the interrogator i just saw that recently for the first time but you gotta listen to the commentary track where he's just going crazy you know i didn't realize that he that agnes scrimmage was actually a

[01:45:45] guy who did liner notes for like box sets for like sinatra and shit like that i didn't know that either i knew he's worn many hats but i didn't know he won like a grammy he won like a grand or something all bad though yeah i love i love the i love the way he spoofed himself as the tall man it's transylvania six five no no that was it oh there you go another yeah you're right transylvania no no it wasn't it was a twist when it's like it's like he's like are you ready boy and

[01:46:14] he's got the the phantasm ball right hey the seeker and he throws it and he's like he's like well it's we don't want to know here he's gonna take the and there's a high fly ball deep the left surface and i freaking i i was laughing hysterically because there's you know it's angus scrimmage the guy and he's like and you could just tell he's that he was just like yeah i'll just do it you know i'll just make fun of myself i don't care you know i mean that's probably why he's the narrator at the beginning of wishmaster he's totally still in tall man yeah and then an ancient evil erupted from

[01:46:43] egypt oh man oh i got i gotta post some stuff online for mr show just so we can get back to the swing of things you know i just sent a couple things all right cool cool i found i found davy and son of goliath attached oh god oh my god okay baby you know the thing i love is that's how you are

[01:47:10] look look up opie and anthony otto and george davy and goliath it is because it's like it's like you know like he goes to the back like you know they're like they're like yeah what is it that's an old jewish woman yelling at somebody you know oh my god very specific oh god it's just jim norton jim norton who's a comedian was on that show it was like you know the comic the comic i was he

[01:47:35] just said some shit that's still off the wall you know you know it's just like he is off the wall you know it's opening anthony davy and goliath good okay found it yeah oh and it's it's auto the late otto pearson from otto and george who were a x-rated puppet act that i loved where otto auto would would have george on his george on his on his george would just say things like you know

[01:47:59] that's kind of what was that referenced in the howard stern uh biography private parts when he's doing the naughty puppets no no no beginning as a totally different no no no no otto and george were this were this were these it was an act right so they were pretty much well known you know they were they were well you know james this whole podcast is an act i know that but i'm saying

[01:48:24] what i'm saying is that what i'm saying is that they were known to be like x-rated and he he walked he worked in new york he would he would like he quit school and he would work in new york and one time he was working in new york and he saw this guy walk up and he's like oh you're very funny and it was john lennon you know john lennon was in new york so then once yeah well so then where he he would he start doing clubs and he started doing this x-rated act with a puppet and he would move his mouth but

[01:48:54] he would move the puppet so you could tell you know he wasn't like edgar bergen where edgar bergen you know he's just it was just funny to watch and you know they they was they would he would just the puppet would say that was so off the wall you'd be laughing hysterically you know like like i like this guy walks out he says where jeff dunham was born well no jeff dunham like the guy's walking out and then george goes i hope your next shit is square you know like back

[01:49:21] you know oh my god he uses a bit of that definitely in the eskimo skit oh yeah all right let me get going guys i got stuff to do i got my emlis coming i got bills to pay all right would you like to promote your show real fast go tell some i love this thank you guys that was awesome come back again man come back absolutely uh i showed him the

[01:49:46] day for the robocop one yes definitely robocop i live right across from detroit so that i saw it on opening night in detroit i was don't move creep remember a robocop shot that dude or the dick yeah if only it had that character had been played by steven seagal it would have been so much better oh by the way by the way did you guys see the uh the thing i posted about steven seagal how like chuck norris and john claude van deng were just like ripping him a new one

[01:50:14] yeah oh i did wow yeah yeah like making fun of cheesy action stars yeah but steven seagal said he studied under this uh guy who was a hop keto master oh my god the one thing the one thing was the guy who's the hop keto master died 10 years before steven seagal arrived to study under him uh that's how con artists work man they didn't have the internet but here's here's one thing that here's one thing i here's one thing that cracked me up if you watch robocop

[01:50:43] one or two remember they're bringing out the new models of robo like for the the robocop yeah oh yeah the one comes out takes off the helmet and it's it's a screaming skull what the hell was up with that i didn't get that yeah yeah i vaguely remember that yeah yeah i thought that was just an illusion just showing hey they're already dead but they're technically still alive but it was weird there were mistakes of prototyping

[01:51:12] i blame skynet i found online the tv edit of robocop i can send it i'll send it to camera if you guys want it yeah it's even on the arrow blu-ray i'm and oh yeah you can play it at certain segments it's like kind of like the scarface blu-rays like play tv edit you know play tv edit mother father freak you chinese dentist what the flip yeah you stay there egg roll egg roll oh my word

[01:51:42] that's just as bad as melon farmer and die hard he's like really who is captain falcon no one has ever called that who's captain falcon the video game character i would watch tv edits all day they they're they're a trip man they're true i want them to take like pulp fiction and do a tv edit i've never seen that one i'd like to see that one oh it's bad especially on ph1 freak me freak me well he's pumping your chest all right guys i'm gonna get going

[01:52:12] i'll let you know when the thumbs up drops in all right we're going through to the other comic comedic side do you drop some guys always like my dude thank you very much thanks for the invite i was glad having you on man yeah thank you everybody get going too you know it might do everyone get some sleep yeah
