[00:00:41] Gizmo? Gizmo? Hi, Gizmo. I'm Sam.

[00:00:46] This species is wildly dangerous.

[00:00:51] Never get them wet.

[00:00:57] No bright light.

[00:00:59] And never feed them after midnight.

[00:01:07] Our only concern should be the mokwai falling into the wrong hands.

[00:01:17] Who's that?

[00:01:18] The wrong hands.

[00:01:20] Where is mine, mokwai?

[00:01:25] These creatures may prove useful in my endeavors.

[00:01:28] First, Shanghai.

[00:01:30] Then, the world.

[00:01:33] If you don't save Gizmo, who will?

[00:01:44] Return Gizmo to his home to save humanity.

[00:01:52] Never catch Sam.

[00:01:54] We are dealing with creatures who want chaos.

[00:01:57] I simply need to channel their destructive energy.

[00:02:01] We are the ones who know how to do this.

[00:02:07] If we don't end it here, it becomes a ghost city.

[00:02:22] It's the ghost city we slayed today, huh?

[00:02:24] Same as always.

[00:03:02] Hey guys, Steve here from the podcast Music Rewind and also Cinema Decon.

[00:03:04] And my film appreciation today.

[00:03:06] First off, Gremlins 2, The New Batch.

[00:03:09] This film is a wild, chaotic masterpiece.

[00:03:13] Many people will cite the first Gremlins, but no.

[00:03:16] Dante took his success in the original and turned it into a meta commentary on sequels and the film industry itself.

[00:03:21] The humor is sharp, the special effects are top notch, and the sheer creativity on display is mind-blowing.

[00:03:28] It's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's what makes it so brilliant and years ahead of its time.

[00:03:33] The movie showed me what satire was before I even knew the definition of the word.

[00:03:38] Next, there's Inner Space.

[00:03:40] This sci-fi comedy is a testament to Dante's versatility.

[00:03:42] The concept of miniaturizing a man and injecting him into another person's body is both absurd and genius.

[00:03:49] Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan deliver fantastic performances and the special effects are groundbreaking for their time.

[00:03:56] A film that some might consider a simple rom-com has many layers of death, literally,

[00:04:02] and are all tied together by Cinema Decon Hall of Famer Martin Short.

[00:04:05] You can't beat the wonderful scene of him dancing to Sam Cooke while he and Dennis Quaid get drunk together

[00:04:11] while Quaid is literally inside of Short's body.

[00:04:14] Brilliant.

[00:04:16] Matinee is another gem that often flies under the radar.

[00:04:19] Set during the Cuban Missile Crisis, it captures the essence of 1960s America and the power of cinema.

[00:04:26] John Goodman shines as a B-movie producer who uses the fear of nuclear war to promote his latest horror flick.

[00:04:32] A love letter to the monster movies of the past and a poignant reminder of the escapism that films provide.

[00:04:37] Joe Dante's love of the era and the genre is front and center in this underrated classic,

[00:04:42] making Matinee another film ahead of its time.

[00:04:45] Another pattern here.

[00:04:48] Finally, The Burbs.

[00:04:49] This dark comedy is a brilliant satire of suburban life which completely hit home for me in the 90s.

[00:04:56] Tom Hanks led a stellar cast, filmed to the brim with Hey, That Guy,

[00:05:00] in a story about a seemingly normal neighborhood that becomes obsessed with the mysterious new family on the block.

[00:05:06] The film perfectly balances horror, humor, and suspense,

[00:05:09] and Dante's direction keeps you on the edge of your seat.

[00:05:12] It's a movie that pokes fun at the paranoia and absurdity of suburban living,

[00:05:16] and it's done with such wit and charm.

[00:05:18] Joe Dante taps into his Twilight Zone connections to bring out the paranoia in you.

[00:05:22] What do you really know about your neighbors?

[00:05:25] Thanks again guys for giving me a few minutes to ramble about Joe Dante films.

[00:05:29] I do love them all.

[00:05:30] His movies are more than just entertainment.

[00:05:32] They're a reflection of his unique vision and his love for cinema.

[00:05:36] Each movie is a testament to his ability to blend genres,

[00:05:39] create memorable characters,

[00:05:41] and tell stories that expand how you view movies and people in general.

[00:05:45] For me, his work is a cherished part of my childhood

[00:05:48] and continues to inspire and entertain me to this day.

[00:05:50] For those curious, my name is Steve Epley.

[00:05:53] I'm the host of Music Rewind and also the co-host of Cinema Decon,

[00:05:56] and you can find those out on the streamers.

[00:05:59] Thanks and take care.

[00:06:47] Welcome into the show.

[00:06:49] Mike, Gil, and Tom, the usual suspects,

[00:06:51] are back and ready to fight monsters.

[00:06:54] We're bramwins.

[00:06:56] Yeah, and they're all out of water.

[00:06:58] Sports writer Charlie Hildebrand is also featuring on tonight's episode.

[00:07:03] Glad to be here. This will be fun.

[00:07:05] We got John Paul Dozier on the show as well.

[00:07:07] He'll be right back with us here.

[00:07:08] That's right.

[00:07:09] This is going to be a lot of fun.

[00:07:10] So was this, for most people, their introduction to Joe Dante,

[00:07:15] or had you seen some of his Corman-ish features like Piranha or...

[00:07:19] Oh, I'd seen the Piranha and stuff like that first.

[00:07:22] Nice. Okay.

[00:07:23] You know, it's funny how people are...

[00:07:25] I think this was the first one I saw.

[00:07:27] And then I saw Small Soldiers,

[00:07:30] which for a while he actually joked in a recent interview

[00:07:32] was the third Gremlins.

[00:07:34] I call that PG-13 Toy Story.

[00:07:39] I know, this is definitely the first Joe Dante movie I saw.

[00:07:43] I'm a 38, and I probably saw this movie when I was 6 or 7.

[00:07:48] Oh, lovely.

[00:07:49] Something like that.

[00:07:49] Yeah, I saw it when I was 12.

[00:07:51] I saw both in the theaters when it came out, so...

[00:07:54] Oh, lovely.

[00:07:55] Yeah.

[00:07:55] Part 2...

[00:07:56] That was the first Joe Dante film.

[00:07:57] Part 2, I drove people crazy.

[00:07:59] I just...

[00:07:59] I watched it almost as much as Last Action Hero

[00:08:02] because it just had so much Hollywood satire

[00:08:04] and cameos by beloved Looney Tunes characters.

[00:08:09] Some people don't like...

[00:08:10] I like it, but some people don't like that one for some reason.

[00:08:13] Yeah, it's like...

[00:08:14] It bombed kind of at the box office,

[00:08:16] but it got good critic reviews,

[00:08:18] but some people find it too goofy.

[00:08:20] It's almost like the Army of Darkness thing.

[00:08:22] It's like, it's okay.

[00:08:23] We don't have to agree what's the best evil dead.

[00:08:25] It's still Ash fighting zombies.

[00:08:27] Yeah, I love the second one still.

[00:08:30] I mean, yeah, it's kooky.

[00:08:31] It kind of makes fun of itself.

[00:08:34] Especially, you know, the girl

[00:08:36] because, like, you know,

[00:08:38] everything seems to go wrong with her in Christmas time.

[00:08:41] And, you know, that stuff.

[00:08:42] They kind of make fun of that in the second one.

[00:08:45] That story she tells about her dad.

[00:08:47] Yeah!

[00:08:48] The first one.

[00:08:49] Horrifying.

[00:08:51] I took a lot of notes while I re-watched this.

[00:08:54] She got a Kentucky Fried Santa Claus for Christmas.

[00:08:57] Ugh.

[00:08:59] Extra Christmas.

[00:09:00] Right, yeah.

[00:09:01] They reference it by having her talk about Lincoln's birthday,

[00:09:04] and that gets really dark,

[00:09:05] and they cut away from it.

[00:09:06] Yeah, there's cameos by Corey Feldman,

[00:09:10] as well as who's in the similar Lost Boys for years later.

[00:09:13] But then I just love how Judge Reinhold is the asshole boss

[00:09:17] who clearly wants to sleep with Kate,

[00:09:19] and he's out of the picture, surprisingly.

[00:09:20] Well, that's another thing.

[00:09:23] I was kind of disappointed in that,

[00:09:24] because you had Judge Reinhold

[00:09:25] and you would have thought he'd come to the place

[00:09:27] and get murdered or something, yeah.

[00:09:30] I kind of wanted him to fantasize about her with her top off.

[00:09:33] Oh.

[00:09:34] I mean, that's why she's not interested.

[00:09:35] She knows what happened the last time that it happened.

[00:09:38] That's true, yeah.

[00:09:40] So I knew if she's interested in this boy

[00:09:43] that might be 15 and might be 27,

[00:09:45] we don't know for sure,

[00:09:46] and still lives at home with his parents.

[00:09:48] That's right, yeah.

[00:09:50] That's the thing.

[00:09:51] Billy is technically not a bright guy,

[00:09:53] but he's kind of lovable because of his innocence.

[00:09:55] The same thing with Kate.

[00:09:56] She has no business being around him,

[00:09:58] but there's no one else who really is like,

[00:10:01] he's just a glutton for punishment,

[00:10:03] and she's just like, you seem okay.

[00:10:06] That's just like...

[00:10:08] I wanted to shout out Jackie Joseph

[00:10:12] and Dick Miller also being in this movie.

[00:10:14] Yeah, and I love how they brought Dick back.

[00:10:16] I mean, he's a regular,

[00:10:17] but it was so much fun to see him as Mr. Futterman.

[00:10:20] He almost...

[00:10:21] Yeah, it looks like Audrey lost out,

[00:10:24] or not Audrey,

[00:10:25] but Seymour lost out to the guy who eats flowers.

[00:10:33] Seymour?

[00:10:33] Oh, different Seymour.

[00:10:34] My bad.

[00:10:35] Yeah, I mean, to Charles' earlier point,

[00:10:37] I mean, Spielberg pretty much let him do whatever he wanted.

[00:10:43] I mean, John, you mentioned it too.

[00:10:44] I mean, he was like,

[00:10:46] you can do whatever you want in the second one,

[00:10:47] but the first one, his only note is,

[00:10:50] it was similar to what he did with Giuliana Margulies

[00:10:52] on the pilot for ER.

[00:10:53] He's like, let the mother live.

[00:10:55] Everything goes fine.

[00:10:56] There's a P&P skit that makes fun of...

[00:10:58] I love that skit.

[00:10:59] Oh my gosh.

[00:11:00] Yeah, that's how they came up with the...

[00:11:02] They're in a building!

[00:11:03] It's parody and die hard!

[00:11:06] And that is true.

[00:11:08] Like, Joe Dante went for inspiration,

[00:11:09] and he's like, man,

[00:11:11] I thought this was going to be a fun,

[00:11:12] over-the-top action movie.

[00:11:13] This is actually very well made.

[00:11:14] I'm going to do a tribute to that.

[00:11:16] And so I think that's...

[00:11:17] I think that's why he's a very agreeable guy.

[00:11:19] He can do...

[00:11:20] I mean, he's done matinee,

[00:11:22] you know, he's done explorers,

[00:11:23] he's done all kinds of movies,

[00:11:25] and I mean, you see it when you see his show,

[00:11:28] Trailers for Hell.

[00:11:29] He's just all about just kind of

[00:11:31] play with different elements,

[00:11:34] do a tribute to cinema,

[00:11:35] and Chris Columbus, you know,

[00:11:37] when I saw that he was the writer for this,

[00:11:39] I was like, this makes sense

[00:11:40] why this man has helmed Harry Potter.

[00:11:41] You know, he does these dark fantasy elements

[00:11:44] and the Goonies for Spielberg.

[00:11:46] B-movie regulars, you know,

[00:11:47] Robert Ricardo, who's in everything Dante,

[00:11:49] he's the cowboy guy in Inner Space,

[00:11:51] but, you know,

[00:11:53] you see him and, you know,

[00:11:55] Christopher Lee,

[00:11:56] and it's just so awesome

[00:11:57] how they are that kind of personas.

[00:12:00] They know how to...

[00:12:02] They're kind of like Michael Ironside.

[00:12:03] They know how to be over the top

[00:12:05] while still with a straight face.

[00:12:06] They're just, you know,

[00:12:08] they're the Ernie Hudson kind of B-movie guys,

[00:12:10] and it's just so awesome

[00:12:11] how they know how to just play around with this.

[00:12:14] You know, Picardo is getting hit on

[00:12:15] by gremlins who want to mate with him,

[00:12:18] and it's just so funny

[00:12:19] how Christopher Lee is just like,

[00:12:21] I have this completely in control.

[00:12:23] It's like, you don't have this in control.

[00:12:26] Yeah, the gremlins and gremlins, too,

[00:12:27] sure went through quite a few transformations.

[00:12:30] That's what I dug, too.

[00:12:32] Was it Rick Baker who worked on it?

[00:12:34] Yes, yeah.

[00:12:35] Rick Baker did part two,

[00:12:37] but I...

[00:12:38] Kudos to...

[00:12:41] What's his name?

[00:12:41] Who did the effects makeup

[00:12:44] for The Fly,

[00:12:46] which he won an Oscar for,

[00:12:47] and Enemy Mine.

[00:12:49] Chris Wallace, yeah.

[00:12:50] Yeah, he did the Jabba's Palace

[00:12:53] animatronics and everything

[00:12:54] and Star Wars, but...

[00:12:55] Yeah, I remember...

[00:12:57] That's kind of what I dug

[00:12:58] with both those movies.

[00:12:59] They both...

[00:13:00] The effects both told the story

[00:13:02] and stood out in their own way.

[00:13:04] You know, growing up,

[00:13:06] I wanted to see everything ILM

[00:13:07] was doing and everything and all that,

[00:13:08] but, I mean, you know,

[00:13:10] usually, kind of like this,

[00:13:12] you're getting into it

[00:13:12] because Spielberg's name's on it,

[00:13:14] and...

[00:13:15] But, I mean,

[00:13:17] Chris Wallace would always joke

[00:13:18] how, you know,

[00:13:20] as a puppeteer,

[00:13:21] he just about put his back out

[00:13:22] operating Gizmo in the first movie.

[00:13:27] And...

[00:13:28] Rick Baker was also kind of...

[00:13:30] That was what they promised him,

[00:13:32] which was up front.

[00:13:33] It's just like,

[00:13:33] you can do whatever you want.

[00:13:35] It doesn't have to look

[00:13:36] exactly like the thing.

[00:13:37] It's like, okay, cool.

[00:13:38] So I'm not causing any jealousy

[00:13:40] or rivalry.

[00:13:41] I'm doing my own thing

[00:13:43] instead of having to replicate

[00:13:44] someone else's work.

[00:13:46] So, I mean,

[00:13:46] I think that's the beauty of it.

[00:13:49] Everybody is in their own corner,

[00:13:51] and it's all one editor

[00:13:52] who's putting it all together,

[00:13:55] you know,

[00:13:55] instead of feeling like

[00:13:57] it's a bunch of skits

[00:13:59] that don't always align,

[00:14:00] you know?

[00:14:01] I, um...

[00:14:01] They basically start lighting

[00:14:03] in a bottle with this.

[00:14:04] There's like a thousand

[00:14:05] versions of this

[00:14:06] where it's so much worse

[00:14:08] and nobody cares about...

[00:14:10] Munchie...

[00:14:11] Munchie,

[00:14:12] Hobgoblin...

[00:14:12] Creepies.

[00:14:14] No, no, not Creepies.

[00:14:16] Ghoulies.

[00:14:17] Was it Ghoulies?

[00:14:17] Ghoulies.

[00:14:18] Ghoulies, but there's...

[00:14:19] What are the ones with

[00:14:21] Critters?

[00:14:22] Critters, yeah.

[00:14:24] That's an alien thing, though.

[00:14:25] Right, but it was

[00:14:27] kind of marked as one.

[00:14:29] What was the...

[00:14:30] I mean, without this,

[00:14:32] you don't get fun movies,

[00:14:33] I think, like Wishmaster

[00:14:35] or...

[00:14:36] What's the one with Tony Collette?

[00:14:38] Krampus?

[00:14:39] Yeah.

[00:14:40] Just that

[00:14:41] worst Christmas ever

[00:14:43] kind of mentality, you know?

[00:14:45] I loved, for the second one,

[00:14:47] just like how

[00:14:50] the puppeteering

[00:14:51] for all the gremlins,

[00:14:53] especially like that

[00:14:53] spider gremlin,

[00:14:55] which gave me nightmares

[00:14:57] as a kid.

[00:14:57] I hate spiders,

[00:14:58] but that is

[00:14:59] a great animation.

[00:15:01] You just can't take

[00:15:02] your eyes off it

[00:15:03] and you like...

[00:15:04] And it's one of those

[00:15:05] you're like,

[00:15:06] I'm afraid to find out

[00:15:07] how this all worked,

[00:15:08] but what cool effects.

[00:15:10] You love how...

[00:15:13] Not to get political,

[00:15:14] but it's just like

[00:15:15] all the guys

[00:15:17] who are really assholes

[00:15:18] always get an amusing

[00:15:19] comeuppance.

[00:15:20] It's funny how

[00:15:22] Dante decided to make...

[00:15:24] Is it John Glover?

[00:15:25] Yeah.

[00:15:26] Yeah, yeah.

[00:15:27] From Smallville.

[00:15:29] Yeah, yeah.

[00:15:30] As the Donald Trump,

[00:15:32] Ted Turner persona,

[00:15:34] you know?

[00:15:35] And he's like,

[00:15:35] I'm awesome.

[00:15:36] But he's a much nicer guy.

[00:15:38] Right.

[00:15:39] And that's the other thing, too.

[00:15:40] He found out in the screenings.

[00:15:42] He's like,

[00:15:43] these guys kind of

[00:15:43] feel sorry for him.

[00:15:44] He's like,

[00:15:44] okay, I'll have a redemption arc

[00:15:46] where he's an idiot,

[00:15:47] but he finds a way

[00:15:48] to take back the building.

[00:15:51] But yeah,

[00:15:52] and the second one,

[00:15:53] they really threw in

[00:15:54] a lot of people in that one.

[00:15:55] Tony Randall

[00:15:56] threw in the voice

[00:15:57] of one of the gremlins,

[00:15:58] the smart one.

[00:15:59] That's right.

[00:16:00] Michael Winslow

[00:16:01] from Police Academy

[00:16:03] and Frank Welker

[00:16:04] did the voices

[00:16:05] in the first one.

[00:16:06] And it always took me back.

[00:16:09] I'm like,

[00:16:10] wow,

[00:16:10] that's Howie Mandela's gizmo?

[00:16:12] What?

[00:16:12] Yeah,

[00:16:13] I didn't know that either

[00:16:13] until I read the credits

[00:16:15] on that last one

[00:16:15] and the second one.

[00:16:16] It's just one of those

[00:16:17] that wasn't really hyped up.

[00:16:18] It was just kind of a fun gig

[00:16:19] he did in between

[00:16:20] like St. Elsewhere.

[00:16:23] I didn't even know

[00:16:24] until recently

[00:16:26] when I was rewatching it

[00:16:27] in the second one

[00:16:29] that John Astin

[00:16:31] was the janitor.

[00:16:33] Oh yeah,

[00:16:33] the one we were.

[00:16:34] Yeah,

[00:16:34] I didn't even know that

[00:16:36] until like,

[00:16:36] I've seen Gremlins 2

[00:16:38] so many times,

[00:16:38] but it's been so long

[00:16:39] since I've seen it.

[00:16:40] And like,

[00:16:42] when I was like,

[00:16:43] why does that janitor

[00:16:44] seem so familiar?

[00:16:45] And I had to look it up.

[00:16:46] I'm like,

[00:16:46] oh my God.

[00:16:48] Yes.

[00:16:49] So many great,

[00:16:50] like rare to find

[00:16:51] like HBO making ofs

[00:16:52] for both movies

[00:16:54] you can find on YouTube.

[00:16:55] I totally recommend it.

[00:16:56] Just look up HBO promos

[00:16:57] and they'll come up

[00:16:57] eventually.

[00:16:58] But the main movie

[00:17:01] everyone likes to talk about

[00:17:02] is how Christopher Lee

[00:17:03] had been in the Howling 2

[00:17:04] and when he got to set,

[00:17:06] he instantly apologized

[00:17:07] to Joe Dante

[00:17:10] because he had done

[00:17:10] the first Howling

[00:17:11] and Dante's like,

[00:17:13] don't worry about it.

[00:17:14] Anyone would have

[00:17:14] made a sequel to that.

[00:17:18] but I think that's what I like.

[00:17:21] Oh, sorry.

[00:17:22] No, go ahead.

[00:17:23] I love the ending

[00:17:24] of the second Gremlins movie,

[00:17:26] the whole thing with

[00:17:30] blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

[00:17:31] John Glover.

[00:17:32] Yes.

[00:17:33] How the female Gremlin

[00:17:36] like kind of traps him

[00:17:38] in the bathroom

[00:17:38] and they do the whole

[00:17:40] like,

[00:17:41] you know.

[00:17:42] Yeah.

[00:17:43] He just goes,

[00:17:45] you know,

[00:17:45] like gives up.

[00:17:46] He's like,

[00:17:46] eh, might as well.

[00:17:47] Oh, you know.

[00:17:49] Oh, no,

[00:17:49] that was a John Glover.

[00:17:50] That was Robert Picardo.

[00:17:52] But yeah,

[00:17:53] the scientist guy.

[00:17:54] But yeah.

[00:17:55] Yeah.

[00:17:55] Yeah.

[00:17:56] Yeah.

[00:17:56] That's right.

[00:17:56] That's right.

[00:17:57] And that's what I always love

[00:17:58] when he just shows up.

[00:17:59] You never know

[00:18:00] what he's going to be.

[00:18:01] You see him in anthology stuff

[00:18:02] and Stargate.

[00:18:03] You're like,

[00:18:04] I mean,

[00:18:05] when he's in Small Soldiers,

[00:18:06] he's flat out.

[00:18:07] He's a doctor

[00:18:07] in Star Trek.

[00:18:10] Voyager.

[00:18:10] Voyager.

[00:18:11] And when he was in

[00:18:12] Dante's Small Soldiers,

[00:18:14] he's doing a total

[00:18:14] like reference

[00:18:16] to his Voyager character.

[00:18:19] You know,

[00:18:19] where he's.

[00:18:21] But yeah,

[00:18:22] I mean,

[00:18:23] so there you go.

[00:18:23] Count Dooku

[00:18:24] and the hologram doctor.

[00:18:26] This is the Star Wars

[00:18:27] and Star Trek movie.

[00:18:29] But yeah,

[00:18:30] this was always just fun for me

[00:18:32] as like a Christopher Lee film

[00:18:33] because like,

[00:18:33] it's just fun to see him

[00:18:35] be more goofy

[00:18:35] as opposed to the usual

[00:18:37] when you see him

[00:18:37] in a hammer horror type film.

[00:18:40] He's playing a mad scientist

[00:18:41] character instead of

[00:18:43] instead of either

[00:18:45] Van Helsing

[00:18:46] or a vampire.

[00:18:47] Yeah,

[00:18:48] he's not Dracula this time.

[00:18:50] But yeah,

[00:18:51] Picardo was great too

[00:18:52] because

[00:18:53] I love how all the characters

[00:18:55] but yeah,

[00:18:55] Picardo is just like

[00:18:56] finally gives up.

[00:18:58] He's like,

[00:18:58] we can't contain this.

[00:18:59] We're gonna

[00:19:00] first he wants to keep his job

[00:19:02] and then he's like,

[00:19:03] oh,

[00:19:03] we got to contain this

[00:19:04] and everything.

[00:19:05] He's trying to be a hero.

[00:19:06] It's just all

[00:19:07] that's kind of

[00:19:08] what's just fun

[00:19:09] is just every character

[00:19:10] just changes

[00:19:11] in the most bizarre

[00:19:12] and outrageous way.

[00:19:13] Just like

[00:19:14] you have fun.

[00:19:15] These are party movies

[00:19:16] but they're not

[00:19:17] it.

[00:19:18] Oh,

[00:19:19] sorry.

[00:19:19] Go ahead.

[00:19:19] They're over the top

[00:19:20] without

[00:19:20] that's what's also weird too.

[00:19:22] There's so much love.

[00:19:23] I would not even call it

[00:19:24] lowbrow.

[00:19:25] It really is

[00:19:27] self-aware

[00:19:28] and everything

[00:19:28] and I think that's why

[00:19:29] people respond to it.

[00:19:30] People who want

[00:19:31] just a junk food movie

[00:19:32] will love it obviously

[00:19:33] but people like us

[00:19:34] will love it

[00:19:35] because it's also

[00:19:35] it really is

[00:19:36] quite clever.

[00:19:37] Well,

[00:19:38] and it's

[00:19:39] a homage

[00:19:39] to movies.

[00:19:41] Yeah.

[00:19:41] If you love movies

[00:19:42] you'll love it.

[00:19:45] And for me

[00:19:46] I didn't even

[00:19:47] really recognize him

[00:19:48] because of his hair.

[00:19:49] I'm so used to him

[00:19:50] being bald.

[00:19:51] Yeah.

[00:19:53] Yeah.

[00:19:53] Yeah.

[00:19:56] That's why I was thinking

[00:19:57] John Clever

[00:19:58] even though I knew

[00:19:59] it wasn't him

[00:20:00] but it was

[00:20:01] because I'm so used to

[00:20:05] I'm so used to

[00:20:06] Robert being bald

[00:20:08] like it just

[00:20:09] throws me

[00:20:10] from the top

[00:20:11] of the top.

[00:20:11] Hey man.

[00:20:13] That's

[00:20:14] a way for

[00:20:14] holographic doctors.

[00:20:16] Yeah.

[00:20:19] I took note

[00:20:20] of the guy

[00:20:21] who was the

[00:20:21] projectionist in that

[00:20:22] too when the film

[00:20:23] breaks

[00:20:23] and Paul Bartell

[00:20:25] makes a job.

[00:20:26] Paul Bartell

[00:20:27] makes a

[00:20:27] Yeah.

[00:20:28] Regular.

[00:20:29] And then the

[00:20:30] projectionist was

[00:20:30] Toby

[00:20:32] Kenneth Toby

[00:20:33] and he was in

[00:20:35] like the thing

[00:20:35] from another world.

[00:20:36] He was in sci-fi

[00:20:37] 50s sci-fi.

[00:20:38] Oh wow.

[00:20:39] That's cool.

[00:20:40] Where did you go?

[00:20:41] That's awesome.

[00:20:42] Now

[00:20:43] I knew there were

[00:20:44] different versions of it

[00:20:46] on VHS like

[00:20:47] the movie they're

[00:20:48] watching is like

[00:20:49] something else

[00:20:50] and like someone else

[00:20:51] came out of the audience

[00:20:52] and it was like a

[00:20:53] John Wayne movie

[00:20:54] and

[00:20:56] what was weird though

[00:20:57] when I used to see it

[00:20:58] on Starz a lot

[00:20:59] growing up

[00:21:00] I could have sworn

[00:21:01] the Hulk Hogan thing

[00:21:02] opened up the movie

[00:21:03] and then there was

[00:21:03] the Looney Tunes thing

[00:21:04] so I don't know

[00:21:05] if I misremembered

[00:21:06] and then

[00:21:07] Maybe it was in the

[00:21:08] trailer

[00:21:08] with him

[00:21:09] maybe

[00:21:10] That might have been

[00:21:11] I guess

[00:21:12] but

[00:21:12] that might make

[00:21:13] better sense

[00:21:14] maybe I saw

[00:21:14] the trailer

[00:21:15] and then the movie

[00:21:16] I'm not sure

[00:21:16] but like

[00:21:17] it's so weird

[00:21:18] because then

[00:21:19] you know

[00:21:19] I rented off Prime

[00:21:21] and I'm just like

[00:21:23] this is happening

[00:21:24] in the middle

[00:21:24] of the movie

[00:21:24] I could have sworn

[00:21:25] it's at the beginning

[00:21:27] so

[00:21:28] I don't know

[00:21:29] but that's what's

[00:21:30] also just fun too

[00:21:31] is just seeing

[00:21:31] different alternate

[00:21:32] versions of different movies

[00:21:34] I know it premiered

[00:21:35] on ABC

[00:21:35] back in the day

[00:21:36] both films

[00:21:37] I would like to know

[00:21:39] what those

[00:21:40] look like

[00:21:40] compared to

[00:21:41] sci-fi channel

[00:21:42] versions

[00:21:42] you know

[00:21:43] but

[00:21:44] I gotta love

[00:21:45] how Billy's

[00:21:46] uncle

[00:21:46] is like

[00:21:47] working

[00:21:48] at the TV

[00:21:49] station

[00:21:49] part of the

[00:21:49] building

[00:21:50] and he's

[00:21:50] basically

[00:21:51] a Herman

[00:21:51] Munster

[00:21:52] kind of

[00:21:52] tribute

[00:21:53] I thought

[00:21:53] that was

[00:21:53] just a nice

[00:21:54] touch

[00:21:54] it's like

[00:21:55] see

[00:21:55] he's on

[00:21:55] a sitcom

[00:21:56] type

[00:21:57] you know

[00:21:57] Adam's

[00:21:57] family type

[00:21:58] show

[00:21:58] that wasn't

[00:21:59] Grandpa

[00:22:00] Munster

[00:22:01] playing that

[00:22:02] though

[00:22:02] that wasn't

[00:22:03] the same

[00:22:03] actor

[00:22:03] I don't

[00:22:04] think so

[00:22:05] no

[00:22:05] let's look

[00:22:06] up

[00:22:06] Billy's

[00:22:07] uncle

[00:22:08] yeah

[00:22:09] but I

[00:22:10] thought that

[00:22:10] was just

[00:22:10] kind of a

[00:22:11] nice touch

[00:22:11] it's like

[00:22:12] see

[00:22:12] he's

[00:22:14] yeah

[00:22:15] I noticed

[00:22:16] something too

[00:22:16] and

[00:22:18] Billy can't

[00:22:18] get his car

[00:22:19] started at the

[00:22:20] beginning

[00:22:20] no he can't

[00:22:21] and then it's

[00:22:22] like a two

[00:22:23] minute stroll

[00:22:24] to work with

[00:22:24] his dog

[00:22:25] it's like

[00:22:25] why did you

[00:22:26] even have to

[00:22:26] get in the

[00:22:26] car anyway

[00:22:27] remember

[00:22:28] there's like

[00:22:28] yeah

[00:22:29] he's walking

[00:22:30] to work

[00:22:30] and barely

[00:22:31] well

[00:22:31] damned if

[00:22:32] you do

[00:22:37] the old

[00:22:38] one way

[00:22:38] isn't gonna

[00:22:39] kill itself

[00:22:43] if I remember

[00:22:44] right that was

[00:22:45] when the

[00:22:45] Murray guy

[00:22:45] the neighbor

[00:22:46] started talking

[00:22:47] about how much

[00:22:47] he hated

[00:22:48] foreign cars

[00:22:49] and then

[00:22:49] that's right

[00:22:50] exactly

[00:22:51] what he said

[00:22:51] we say

[00:22:53] the gremlins

[00:22:54] might kind of

[00:22:55] sort of be

[00:22:56] foreign so

[00:22:56] he gets

[00:22:56] murdered by

[00:22:57] a foreign

[00:22:58] gremlin

[00:22:58] which has

[00:22:59] got to just

[00:22:59] be the

[00:23:00] worst way

[00:23:00] I think

[00:23:01] they did

[00:23:01] say in

[00:23:01] interviews

[00:23:02] that was

[00:23:02] a deliberate

[00:23:03] you know

[00:23:03] foreigner

[00:23:04] killed by

[00:23:05] another

[00:23:05] foreigner

[00:23:05] yeah

[00:23:06] it was

[00:23:07] but

[00:23:07] that's what's

[00:23:08] cool

[00:23:08] it makes

[00:23:09] fun of

[00:23:09] economic

[00:23:10] stuff

[00:23:10] and two

[00:23:11] without

[00:23:11] politicizing

[00:23:12] its audience

[00:23:12] it's just

[00:23:13] fun

[00:23:13] and

[00:23:15] I mean

[00:23:15] when there

[00:23:16] was that

[00:23:16] Mountain Dew

[00:23:17] zero sugar

[00:23:18] ad in like

[00:23:18] 2020

[00:23:19] I was like

[00:23:19] whoa

[00:23:20] yeah

[00:23:21] with the

[00:23:22] gremlins guys

[00:23:23] I'm like

[00:23:23] see

[00:23:23] the love

[00:23:24] is still

[00:23:24] there

[00:23:25] I forgot

[00:23:27] about that

[00:23:28] ad

[00:23:29] I was so

[00:23:30] pissed

[00:23:30] because I

[00:23:31] had the

[00:23:31] tv muted

[00:23:32] because there

[00:23:32] were so

[00:23:32] many annoying

[00:23:33] ads before

[00:23:33] it I'm like

[00:23:34] oh turn it

[00:23:35] up turn it

[00:23:35] up go

[00:23:35] back

[00:23:36] go back

[00:23:38] they're like

[00:23:38] what you'll

[00:23:39] know you'll

[00:23:39] see it

[00:23:42] Burger King

[00:23:43] showed up in

[00:23:43] both movies

[00:23:44] too

[00:23:44] oh that's

[00:23:45] right

[00:23:45] yeah

[00:23:46] I did I

[00:23:47] did write down

[00:23:48] their product

[00:23:48] placement for

[00:23:49] Burger King

[00:23:49] on your

[00:23:50] somewhere

[00:23:50] Dante

[00:23:51] yeah

[00:23:51] they had a

[00:23:52] huge thing

[00:23:53] in those

[00:23:54] movies

[00:23:55] well and the

[00:23:55] fact that the

[00:23:56] gremlin is like

[00:23:57] a psychiatrist

[00:23:57] and he's talking

[00:23:58] to the audience

[00:23:59] and I mean

[00:23:59] this was kind

[00:24:00] of a precursor

[00:24:01] to Deadpool

[00:24:01] where you had

[00:24:02] the trailer

[00:24:04] being a star

[00:24:04] of its own

[00:24:05] and I mean

[00:24:06] I love the

[00:24:06] villain names

[00:24:07] the first one

[00:24:07] is Stripe

[00:24:08] the next one

[00:24:08] is Mohawk

[00:24:09] yeah

[00:24:12] but yeah

[00:24:13] so on

[00:24:14] podcasting

[00:24:14] after dark

[00:24:15] where they

[00:24:15] a few years

[00:24:16] ago had the

[00:24:16] opportunity to

[00:24:17] interview Joe

[00:24:18] Dante

[00:24:18] Zach and

[00:24:19] Corey and

[00:24:22] just and

[00:24:23] the whole lot

[00:24:24] of them are

[00:24:24] just so great

[00:24:25] they're at so

[00:24:26] many conventions

[00:24:26] some of them

[00:24:27] are working

[00:24:27] voice actors

[00:24:29] they got to

[00:24:30] talk to the

[00:24:30] guy who even

[00:24:31] voiced Gizmo

[00:24:33] for the

[00:24:34] new HBO

[00:24:36] Max cartoon

[00:24:37] show and he's

[00:24:37] like it was a

[00:24:38] real challenge

[00:24:39] he had already

[00:24:39] been called by

[00:24:40] Spielberg's people

[00:24:41] to voice Marty

[00:24:42] McFly in the

[00:24:43] Back to the

[00:24:43] Future game

[00:24:43] so pressure

[00:24:44] was on

[00:24:45] you know

[00:24:46] how do I

[00:24:47] become the

[00:24:48] character without

[00:24:48] just imitating

[00:24:49] Howie Mandel

[00:24:50] and but

[00:24:51] Dante was

[00:24:52] just a lot

[00:24:52] of fun

[00:24:53] he's like

[00:24:53] basically

[00:24:53] the cartoon

[00:24:54] show is

[00:24:55] Gremlins Free

[00:24:56] and I think

[00:24:57] everyone's gonna

[00:24:58] love it

[00:24:58] it's like a

[00:24:58] quick 10

[00:24:59] episodes

[00:25:00] it's basically

[00:25:01] Kung Fu

[00:25:01] Panda

[00:25:02] but in

[00:25:03] China

[00:25:04] like it's

[00:25:05] just showing

[00:25:05] the origin

[00:25:05] of Gizmo

[00:25:06] where he's

[00:25:07] raised by a

[00:25:07] Chinese family

[00:25:08] and BD

[00:25:09] Wong and

[00:25:10] Ming-Na

[00:25:10] and company

[00:25:11] they do some

[00:25:11] great voice

[00:25:12] over work

[00:25:12] you just

[00:25:14] reminded me

[00:25:14] the Kung Fu

[00:25:15] guy

[00:25:16] oh that's

[00:25:17] right

[00:25:18] that was

[00:25:19] a fun

[00:25:19] touch

[00:25:20] he thinks

[00:25:21] he can

[00:25:21] take on

[00:25:22] all the

[00:25:24] well no

[00:25:25] the guy

[00:25:26] that was

[00:25:26] the owner

[00:25:27] of

[00:25:29] Gizmo

[00:25:30] at first

[00:25:31] the Chinese

[00:25:32] guy

[00:25:32] okay

[00:25:33] wasn't there

[00:25:34] a guy

[00:25:34] in part

[00:25:35] two

[00:25:35] who knew

[00:25:35] Kung Fu

[00:25:36] briefly

[00:25:38] oh there

[00:25:39] was a

[00:25:40] cameraman

[00:25:40] who was

[00:25:41] Asian

[00:25:42] I don't

[00:25:42] know what

[00:25:43] nationality

[00:25:43] I was thinking

[00:25:44] someone else

[00:25:45] I thought

[00:25:45] there was

[00:25:45] a guy

[00:25:46] who said

[00:25:46] I know

[00:25:46] martial arts

[00:25:47] or something

[00:25:48] oh he's

[00:25:49] in 16

[00:25:50] candles

[00:25:50] too

[00:25:50] with the

[00:25:51] unfortunate

[00:25:51] name

[00:25:52] oh that's

[00:25:53] right

[00:25:54] yeah

[00:25:55] and I love

[00:25:56] and you gotta

[00:25:57] love a

[00:25:57] reliable dog

[00:25:58] like Barney

[00:25:59] also known

[00:26:00] as Wolf Wolf

[00:26:02] didn't see him

[00:26:03] in the second

[00:26:03] one

[00:26:04] yeah

[00:26:05] he probably

[00:26:06] Gizmo probably

[00:26:07] outlived him

[00:26:08] but

[00:26:08] I love

[00:26:09] how Gizmo

[00:26:10] was the

[00:26:12] dude

[00:26:13] he was

[00:26:14] was it

[00:26:15] Kai Luke

[00:26:16] he was the

[00:26:18] guy that

[00:26:18] owned

[00:26:19] Gizmo

[00:26:19] oh nice

[00:26:21] that's right

[00:26:22] yeah

[00:26:23] so the name

[00:26:24] of that dog

[00:26:25] by the way

[00:26:25] was Mushroom

[00:26:26] I'm not kidding

[00:26:28] and

[00:26:30] Spielberg

[00:26:31] stated in the

[00:26:31] original film's

[00:26:32] commentary

[00:26:32] was one of

[00:26:33] the best

[00:26:33] actors in

[00:26:33] the film

[00:26:34] yeah

[00:26:36] nice

[00:26:37] oh Robbie

[00:26:38] Robbie the

[00:26:39] Robot made

[00:26:39] an appearance

[00:26:40] as well

[00:26:40] yes

[00:26:41] he appeared

[00:26:42] back in

[00:26:43] action as

[00:26:43] well

[00:26:44] so yeah

[00:26:44] Dante is a

[00:26:45] Forbidden

[00:26:46] Planet obsession

[00:26:46] and

[00:26:47] well yeah

[00:26:48] you can hear

[00:26:49] like Robbie

[00:26:50] the Robot

[00:26:50] in the background

[00:26:50] like he talks

[00:26:52] about giving

[00:26:52] yourself an

[00:26:52] oil job

[00:26:53] yeah

[00:26:54] then he

[00:26:54] quotes

[00:26:55] from

[00:26:56] Forbidden

[00:26:57] Planet

[00:26:57] too

[00:26:57] yes he

[00:26:58] does

[00:26:58] it's

[00:26:59] a lot

[00:26:59] of fun

[00:27:01] what's that

[00:27:01] strange little

[00:27:02] puppet show

[00:27:03] one of the

[00:27:03] gremlins is

[00:27:04] doing

[00:27:05] back and

[00:27:06] forth

[00:27:06] is that

[00:27:07] when the

[00:27:07] film breaks

[00:27:08] they're doing

[00:27:08] the hand

[00:27:09] puppet

[00:27:09] thing

[00:27:09] no no

[00:27:09] I think

[00:27:10] it's in

[00:27:10] the first

[00:27:11] movie

[00:27:11] at

[00:27:12] Phoebe

[00:27:12] Cates's

[00:27:13] bar

[00:27:14] oh when

[00:27:15] they're

[00:27:15] trashing

[00:27:15] the bar

[00:27:16] and they're

[00:27:16] playing Miles

[00:27:17] Davis

[00:27:17] I think

[00:27:19] but there's

[00:27:20] a strange

[00:27:21] conversation

[00:27:21] with two

[00:27:22] hand puppets

[00:27:23] and just

[00:27:23] I don't quite

[00:27:24] know what

[00:27:24] I'm sure it's a

[00:27:25] reference to

[00:27:26] something but I

[00:27:26] never quite

[00:27:27] figured out that

[00:27:28] scene

[00:27:28] oh one of the

[00:27:28] gremlins had a

[00:27:29] hand puppet on

[00:27:30] well they had

[00:27:31] two

[00:27:31] two

[00:27:32] doing two

[00:27:34] hand puppets

[00:27:34] talking back

[00:27:35] and forth

[00:27:36] it's

[00:27:36] really bizarre

[00:27:37] scene

[00:27:39] before or

[00:27:40] after the

[00:27:41] one gremlin

[00:27:42] had three

[00:27:42] cigarettes that

[00:27:43] he forced

[00:27:43] Phoebe Cates

[00:27:44] to light for

[00:27:45] him at the

[00:27:45] same time

[00:27:46] that's what's

[00:27:47] fun too

[00:27:47] that's kind

[00:27:49] of what's also

[00:27:50] fun kind of

[00:27:51] like the wish

[00:27:51] master half the

[00:27:52] time they just

[00:27:53] want to screw

[00:27:53] with people

[00:27:54] they're not

[00:27:54] they don't

[00:27:55] want to kill

[00:27:55] you right away

[00:27:57] clothes certainly

[00:27:58] got launched

[00:28:00] through a window

[00:28:01] yeah yeah yeah

[00:28:02] does anybody

[00:28:02] actually die in

[00:28:03] gremlins

[00:28:04] well I

[00:28:04] remember the

[00:28:05] one couple

[00:28:06] gets the

[00:28:06] tractor

[00:28:07] yeah but

[00:28:07] they're in

[00:28:07] the next

[00:28:08] movie

[00:28:08] oh that's

[00:28:09] right

[00:28:09] you're talking

[00:28:09] about dick

[00:28:10] miller and

[00:28:10] yeah

[00:28:11] I thought there

[00:28:12] was another

[00:28:12] and they said

[00:28:13] they nearly got

[00:28:15] killed in the

[00:28:15] second movie

[00:28:16] that's what it

[00:28:17] was but I

[00:28:17] thought there

[00:28:17] was someone

[00:28:18] else who

[00:28:18] got run

[00:28:18] over

[00:28:19] but I had

[00:28:20] heard somebody

[00:28:20] ask if somebody

[00:28:22] anybody actually

[00:28:23] dies in gremlins

[00:28:24] you never really

[00:28:24] see well the

[00:28:26] old lady dies

[00:28:27] doesn't she

[00:28:27] yeah it's

[00:28:28] holy holiday

[00:28:30] yeah

[00:28:31] yeah

[00:28:34] I don't know

[00:28:35] or she was

[00:28:37] dead maybe

[00:28:38] I'm wrong

[00:28:39] I don't know

[00:28:39] we might have

[00:28:40] to go down a

[00:28:41] rabbit hole on

[00:28:41] that one now

[00:28:42] yeah

[00:28:43] so I found

[00:28:44] out information

[00:28:45] about sock

[00:28:46] puppet

[00:28:47] for the gremlin

[00:28:50] it's so far

[00:28:51] it's not saying

[00:28:52] it's a reference

[00:28:53] to anything

[00:28:53] but

[00:28:55] yeah

[00:28:56] it's in the

[00:28:57] bar

[00:28:57] apparently

[00:29:00] the sock

[00:29:02] puppet is

[00:29:02] found in

[00:29:04] the movie

[00:29:05] theater at

[00:29:05] the end

[00:29:06] when they all

[00:29:07] die so they

[00:29:07] also that

[00:29:08] sock puppet

[00:29:09] is still

[00:29:11] with them

[00:29:11] in it

[00:29:12] when they all

[00:29:12] die

[00:29:12] one of them

[00:29:13] had it on

[00:29:13] his character

[00:29:14] somehow

[00:29:14] yeah

[00:29:15] he had it

[00:29:16] on him

[00:29:16] but it's

[00:29:18] saying

[00:29:19] let's see

[00:29:22] the

[00:29:23] the Igor

[00:29:23] puppet

[00:29:24] gremlin

[00:29:24] from

[00:29:25] gremlins 2

[00:29:26] may be

[00:29:26] a

[00:29:28] reincarnation

[00:29:29] of this

[00:29:29] gremlin

[00:29:30] okay

[00:29:31] and

[00:29:32] yeah

[00:29:33] they

[00:29:33] they said

[00:29:34] it's unknown

[00:29:35] where he

[00:29:35] found these

[00:29:36] puppets

[00:29:36] perhaps he

[00:29:37] grabbed them

[00:29:37] at the

[00:29:38] local store

[00:29:38] before heading

[00:29:40] to Dory's

[00:29:40] tavern

[00:29:42] the fact

[00:29:43] that they're

[00:29:44] that they're

[00:29:44] all puppets

[00:29:45] you know

[00:29:46] there you go

[00:29:47] puppets

[00:29:48] is what

[00:29:48] you're going

[00:29:49] at

[00:29:49] yeah

[00:29:49] right

[00:29:50] who's

[00:29:50] really got

[00:29:51] their hand

[00:29:51] up the

[00:29:52] other

[00:29:52] yeah

[00:29:56] don't they

[00:29:56] reference it

[00:29:57] a few times

[00:29:57] on mystery

[00:29:58] science theater

[00:29:59] and that's

[00:30:00] before they

[00:30:01] were forced

[00:30:01] to sit

[00:30:01] through

[00:30:02] hobgoblins

[00:30:02] they're like

[00:30:03] it's gremlins

[00:30:03] but bad

[00:30:04] yeah

[00:30:06] I'm sure

[00:30:07] yeah I'm sure

[00:30:07] they do

[00:30:08] and it is

[00:30:09] funny though

[00:30:09] how some

[00:30:10] of those guys

[00:30:10] who've done

[00:30:10] knockoff

[00:30:11] franchises

[00:30:11] they've done

[00:30:12] the whole

[00:30:12] oh that script

[00:30:13] was out before

[00:30:14] gremlins

[00:30:14] I'm like yeah

[00:30:15] but come on

[00:30:16] you know

[00:30:17] you only green

[00:30:17] let it

[00:30:18] because gremlins

[00:30:18] was successful

[00:30:21] we'll return

[00:30:22] after these

[00:30:23] messages

[00:30:26] if you like

[00:30:27] small town

[00:30:28] mystery

[00:30:28] crazy news

[00:30:29] and wild

[00:30:30] history

[00:30:31] then the

[00:30:31] Florida men

[00:30:32] on Florida

[00:30:33] man podcast

[00:30:33] is for you

[00:30:40] so if

[00:30:41] you're

[00:30:41] looking for

[00:30:41] a show

[00:30:42] that's

[00:30:42] safe

[00:30:42] for the

[00:30:42] family

[00:30:43] but funny

[00:30:44] enough

[00:30:44] to help

[00:30:44] you escape

[00:30:45] everyday

[00:30:45] life

[00:30:46] then listen

[00:31:39] is

[00:31:46] a serious

[00:31:46] question

[00:31:47] the team

[00:31:48] they made

[00:31:49] it seem

[00:31:49] like

[00:31:50] that most

[00:31:52] of the

[00:31:52] movie happens

[00:31:53] on Christmas

[00:31:53] Eve

[00:31:54] the kids

[00:31:55] were in

[00:31:55] school

[00:31:56] on Christmas

[00:31:56] Eve

[00:31:57] for at least

[00:31:57] a little

[00:31:58] while

[00:31:58] and the

[00:31:59] science

[00:31:59] teacher

[00:32:00] was working

[00:32:00] until

[00:32:01] 2.30

[00:32:02] the night

[00:32:02] before

[00:32:03] so what's

[00:32:04] he doing

[00:32:04] working

[00:32:05] until 2.30

[00:32:05] in the morning

[00:32:06] when he's

[00:32:07] like still

[00:32:07] gotta be up

[00:32:07] the next

[00:32:08] day

[00:32:08] and why

[00:32:08] are they

[00:32:08] at school

[00:32:09] on December

[00:32:09] 24th

[00:32:10] I was

[00:32:11] watching that

[00:32:11] wondering

[00:32:12] what time

[00:32:12] it was

[00:32:13] because

[00:32:13] it's

[00:32:14] awful

[00:32:14] dark

[00:32:17] because

[00:32:18] Billy's

[00:32:19] clock

[00:32:19] they pulled

[00:32:20] the plug

[00:32:20] on

[00:32:20] wait a minute

[00:32:21] wasn't it

[00:32:22] 2.30

[00:32:22] and I was

[00:32:22] 10.30

[00:32:23] I got a

[00:32:25] question

[00:32:26] okay so

[00:32:26] don't feed

[00:32:27] them after

[00:32:27] midnight

[00:32:28] but they

[00:32:28] never really

[00:32:29] clarify when

[00:32:29] they can

[00:32:30] feed them

[00:32:30] again

[00:32:32] technically

[00:32:32] it's always

[00:32:33] after midnight

[00:32:36] so yeah

[00:32:37] Gremlins

[00:32:37] was on

[00:32:38] Christmas Eve

[00:32:38] but yeah

[00:32:39] I mean

[00:32:39] it's not

[00:32:40] uncommon for

[00:32:40] some

[00:32:45] people

[00:32:45] celebrate it

[00:32:48] because they're

[00:32:50] so busy

[00:32:51] running around

[00:32:52] I mean

[00:32:53] that also

[00:32:53] makes sense

[00:32:54] why the

[00:32:54] street is

[00:32:55] bare

[00:32:55] other people

[00:32:55] are actually

[00:32:57] inside

[00:32:57] celebrating

[00:32:58] but I think

[00:32:59] that's kind of

[00:32:59] what was also

[00:33:00] kind of fun

[00:33:00] about it

[00:33:01] it was

[00:33:02] some people

[00:33:03] have left

[00:33:04] town or

[00:33:05] they're at

[00:33:06] town being

[00:33:06] terrorized by

[00:33:07] the creatures

[00:33:07] or

[00:33:09] I mean

[00:33:10] but yeah

[00:33:11] there were

[00:33:12] a version

[00:33:12] where the

[00:33:13] stuff with

[00:33:13] the black

[00:33:14] teacher is

[00:33:14] way worse

[00:33:15] than 1984

[00:33:16] where he's

[00:33:17] like the

[00:33:18] gremlins

[00:33:18] this is

[00:33:18] dynamite

[00:33:19] or something

[00:33:20] like that

[00:33:21] yeah

[00:33:22] they could

[00:33:22] have gone

[00:33:22] that way

[00:33:23] probably

[00:33:24] and somewhere

[00:33:25] jimmy gg

[00:33:26] walker

[00:33:26] saying

[00:33:26] that could

[00:33:27] have been

[00:33:27] me

[00:33:27] yeah

[00:33:29] why didn't

[00:33:29] you call

[00:33:30] me

[00:33:31] speaking of

[00:33:32] time

[00:33:32] did you

[00:33:33] notice

[00:33:33] on

[00:33:34] beagle

[00:33:34] real estate

[00:33:35] the sign

[00:33:35] the hours

[00:33:36] 1030

[00:33:37] to 1115

[00:33:42] it's

[00:33:43] monday

[00:33:43] through friday

[00:33:44] 1030

[00:33:44] to 1115

[00:33:45] now either

[00:33:46] 1030

[00:33:46] the morning

[00:33:47] 1115

[00:33:47] at night

[00:33:48] probably not

[00:33:48] so

[00:33:49] probably not

[00:33:50] so she's

[00:33:50] open for

[00:33:51] 45 minutes

[00:33:52] a day

[00:33:52] that's perfect

[00:33:54] i do have

[00:33:55] a small

[00:33:56] town you

[00:33:57] know like

[00:33:58] how busy

[00:33:58] can you

[00:33:58] be

[00:34:00] yeah

[00:34:01] i think

[00:34:01] that's kind

[00:34:01] of

[00:34:02] i mean

[00:34:02] she's busy

[00:34:02] chasing all

[00:34:03] the dogs

[00:34:03] and trying

[00:34:04] to secretly

[00:34:05] put them

[00:34:05] all to

[00:34:05] sleep

[00:34:06] yeah

[00:34:07] that's

[00:34:08] true

[00:34:08] yeah

[00:34:08] it's like

[00:34:09] it's gonna

[00:34:10] easily done

[00:34:10] those probably

[00:34:11] with the gremlins

[00:34:11] just kind of

[00:34:12] said let me

[00:34:12] euthanize

[00:34:13] you

[00:34:16] but yeah

[00:34:17] since it's a

[00:34:18] small town

[00:34:18] you could also

[00:34:19] probably think

[00:34:19] yeah i

[00:34:20] mean

[00:34:20] who are

[00:34:21] you gonna

[00:34:21] call for

[00:34:21] help in

[00:34:22] this little

[00:34:22] small place

[00:34:24] i do have

[00:34:25] a very

[00:34:25] interactive

[00:34:26] uh gizmo

[00:34:27] uh doll

[00:34:28] that does

[00:34:29] do the

[00:34:29] classic

[00:34:30] uh you

[00:34:31] know

[00:34:31] mogwai

[00:34:32] noises

[00:34:33] oh man

[00:34:34] awesome

[00:34:34] yeah

[00:34:35] and so

[00:34:36] everyone

[00:34:38] yeah

[00:34:39] i will

[00:34:40] every once

[00:34:40] while bring

[00:34:40] them out

[00:34:41] for movie

[00:34:41] night

[00:34:41] and everyone's

[00:34:42] like okay

[00:34:42] it's that

[00:34:43] kind of

[00:34:43] night

[00:34:43] i'm like

[00:34:44] yeah

[00:34:45] i'm feeling

[00:34:46] it

[00:34:47] if i were

[00:34:48] gonna get

[00:34:48] a toy

[00:34:49] um

[00:34:50] i would

[00:34:51] probably

[00:34:51] want to

[00:34:52] get the

[00:34:52] edward g

[00:34:52] robinson

[00:34:53] gremlin

[00:34:56] that was

[00:34:57] a neat

[00:34:57] add-on

[00:34:59] is like

[00:34:59] they all

[00:35:00] have their

[00:35:00] different

[00:35:00] personas

[00:35:01] kind of

[00:35:01] i mean

[00:35:02] that's why

[00:35:02] it is

[00:35:03] kind of

[00:35:03] very

[00:35:03] looney

[00:35:03] tunes

[00:35:04] yeah

[00:35:05] yeah

[00:35:05] like

[00:35:06] goofy

[00:35:06] gremlin

[00:35:06] um

[00:35:07] i don't

[00:35:07] what

[00:35:08] his

[00:35:08] gremlin

[00:35:08] or whatever

[00:35:09] i don't

[00:35:09] know

[00:35:19] and that

[00:35:20] was the

[00:35:20] tony

[00:35:20] curtis

[00:35:21] voice

[00:35:22] yeah

[00:35:22] uh

[00:35:23] tony

[00:35:24] randall

[00:35:25] tony

[00:35:26] randall

[00:35:26] tony

[00:35:27] randall

[00:35:27] you're

[00:35:27] right

[00:35:27] that'd

[00:35:28] be

[00:35:29] different

[00:35:29] apparently

[00:35:30] jeff

[00:35:31] bennett

[00:35:31] voiced

[00:35:32] him on

[00:35:34] a few

[00:35:35] other

[00:35:35] things

[00:35:36] wow

[00:35:36] okay

[00:35:37] so the

[00:35:38] the

[00:35:39] the

[00:35:39] dumb

[00:35:40] gremlin

[00:35:40] his name

[00:35:41] uh

[00:35:41] and the

[00:35:42] goofy

[00:35:43] gremlin

[00:35:43] lenny

[00:35:44] was the

[00:35:44] name

[00:35:45] oh

[00:35:47] lenny

[00:35:48] and i think

[00:35:49] dappy

[00:35:49] were uh

[00:35:51] those were

[00:35:52] the the

[00:35:53] names of

[00:35:54] the but

[00:35:55] yeah lenny

[00:35:55] was the uh

[00:35:56] the massive

[00:35:57] goofy

[00:35:58] one was

[00:36:00] uh lenny

[00:36:01] that was the

[00:36:01] official name

[00:36:02] that's amazing

[00:36:03] okay so

[00:36:04] mice and

[00:36:05] men

[00:36:07] tell me about

[00:36:08] the rabbits

[00:36:09] george

[00:36:09] tell me about

[00:36:10] the gremlins

[00:36:10] george

[00:36:11] well you

[00:36:12] didn't have

[00:36:13] a georgia

[00:36:13] george

[00:36:15] yeah that

[00:36:16] was the

[00:36:16] robinson one

[00:36:17] so fun fact

[00:36:18] the gremlins

[00:36:19] wicca is

[00:36:19] awesome and

[00:36:21] apparently i

[00:36:23] knew the

[00:36:23] gremlins appeared

[00:36:24] in some of

[00:36:24] the lego games

[00:36:25] it's apparently

[00:36:25] lego dimensions

[00:36:26] and a

[00:36:28] brain gremlin

[00:36:28] appears there

[00:36:29] and he's

[00:36:29] voiced by

[00:36:30] christopher

[00:36:30] swindle

[00:36:31] they originally

[00:36:32] wanted tim

[00:36:32] curry to

[00:36:33] voice the

[00:36:33] character in

[00:36:34] the second

[00:36:35] film but

[00:36:36] you'll love

[00:36:36] this apparently

[00:36:37] he appeared

[00:36:38] on team

[00:36:38] titans go

[00:36:39] the 100th

[00:36:40] anniversary episode

[00:36:41] dedicated to

[00:36:42] warner brothers

[00:36:44] and he was

[00:36:45] voiced by

[00:36:45] jeff bennett

[00:36:46] you know

[00:36:46] famous disney

[00:36:47] star wars

[00:36:47] voice actor

[00:36:49] and he was

[00:36:50] actually

[00:36:53] yeah he was

[00:36:54] actually

[00:36:54] who was he

[00:36:55] in that episode

[00:36:56] it just

[00:36:57] just the brain

[00:36:58] gribbling

[00:36:58] appears

[00:37:00] the one with

[00:37:00] the glasses

[00:37:01] who's talking

[00:37:01] down to

[00:37:02] everybody like

[00:37:03] the smartest

[00:37:03] guy in the

[00:37:04] room

[00:37:05] i gotta remember

[00:37:05] i i feel like

[00:37:06] i've seen that

[00:37:08] episode but i'm

[00:37:08] not sure i might

[00:37:09] have missed that

[00:37:09] one so i gotta

[00:37:10] check that

[00:37:11] civilized

[00:37:16] so you'll

[00:37:18] love this

[00:37:18] apparently the

[00:37:19] george character

[00:37:20] appears as an

[00:37:21] enemy in the

[00:37:22] video game

[00:37:23] uh gremlins

[00:37:24] 2

[00:37:27] the sons and

[00:37:28] he apparently

[00:37:29] shoots flames

[00:37:30] from his cigar

[00:37:33] so that's

[00:37:34] what i to

[00:37:35] you guys's

[00:37:35] point it is

[00:37:36] kind of fun

[00:37:36] how they

[00:37:38] all have their

[00:37:38] different persona

[00:37:39] and it

[00:37:40] doesn't matter

[00:37:41] if they're

[00:37:41] only on screen

[00:37:42] for like two

[00:37:42] minutes it's

[00:37:43] like yeah sure

[00:37:44] i'll watch it

[00:37:45] again it's fun

[00:37:48] yeah something

[00:37:48] that i noticed

[00:37:50] in looking back

[00:37:51] at it all

[00:37:53] the the horror

[00:37:55] part of it

[00:37:56] it was so

[00:37:57] tongue-in-cheek

[00:37:58] it was it

[00:37:59] was almost

[00:37:59] like i hate

[00:38:01] to say but

[00:38:01] it was almost

[00:38:02] like childlike

[00:38:03] in a way

[00:38:04] right

[00:38:07] yeah

[00:38:09] nobody you

[00:38:09] don't see

[00:38:10] anybody really

[00:38:10] dying necessarily

[00:38:12] um you see

[00:38:13] people getting

[00:38:14] their comeuppance

[00:38:15] there's there's

[00:38:15] comic timing and

[00:38:17] all of that but

[00:38:17] i almost want to

[00:38:19] say that

[00:38:21] when you blur that

[00:38:22] line between

[00:38:22] horror and

[00:38:23] almost it

[00:38:24] almost comes

[00:38:25] like a almost

[00:38:26] like a goosebumps

[00:38:27] kind of feel to

[00:38:28] it

[00:38:28] with a little

[00:38:29] bit more

[00:38:29] of a

[00:38:29] comedic edge

[00:38:30] yeah

[00:38:31] the real the

[00:38:32] real gore and

[00:38:33] violence really

[00:38:33] happens just to

[00:38:34] the gremlins

[00:38:35] with you know

[00:38:36] like the mom

[00:38:36] so it's okay

[00:38:37] it's like starship

[00:38:38] troopers you know

[00:38:39] i mean yeah

[00:38:41] the mom the mom

[00:38:42] herself in the

[00:38:42] first one he

[00:38:43] one of the one

[00:38:44] of them gets

[00:38:45] blenderized the

[00:38:46] other one gets

[00:38:47] stabbed

[00:38:47] just by mom

[00:38:48] alone

[00:38:49] i love how mom

[00:38:50] just like takes

[00:38:51] out the knife and

[00:38:52] just flat out like

[00:38:53] play ball decapitates

[00:38:55] you know um

[00:38:56] the bored stay-at-home

[00:38:57] housewife has been

[00:38:58] waiting for this

[00:38:59] moment for decades

[00:39:00] yeah

[00:39:03] and good acting

[00:39:04] in here with you

[00:39:06] you're locked in

[00:39:06] here with me

[00:39:07] you're in here

[00:39:08] with me

[00:39:09] good acting

[00:39:10] by

[00:39:10] thought in 84

[00:39:11] people were saying

[00:39:12] how kick-ass

[00:39:13] she was

[00:39:13] yes

[00:39:15] good acting

[00:39:16] by uh

[00:39:16] francis lee

[00:39:17] mccain

[00:39:18] who is

[00:39:18] you probably know

[00:39:20] from other stuff

[00:39:20] like footloose

[00:39:21] and stand by me

[00:39:22] stella and back

[00:39:23] to the future

[00:39:24] to your earlier

[00:39:24] point mike

[00:39:25] you're actually

[00:39:25] correct mark

[00:39:26] dodson who did

[00:39:27] the voice of

[00:39:27] salacious crumb

[00:39:28] in return of the

[00:39:29] jedi was the

[00:39:29] voice of george

[00:39:31] as well as

[00:39:32] lenny and

[00:39:33] daffy

[00:39:33] okay

[00:39:36] yeah

[00:39:36] so

[00:39:37] yeah

[00:39:38] we actually

[00:39:39] lost him

[00:39:40] march 3rd of

[00:39:41] this year

[00:39:42] holy shit

[00:39:43] aren't

[00:39:47] isn't billy's

[00:39:48] family liable

[00:39:49] after all this

[00:39:50] yeah

[00:39:51] probably like

[00:39:52] you think

[00:39:52] they'd be

[00:39:53] destitute and

[00:39:54] broke

[00:39:54] yeah

[00:39:55] i'd come to

[00:39:56] your house

[00:39:56] but i can't

[00:39:57] even afford

[00:39:58] to even put

[00:39:58] up you know

[00:39:59] decorations

[00:39:59] let's let's

[00:40:01] just let's

[00:40:01] just eat at

[00:40:02] golden corral

[00:40:03] this year

[00:40:03] but i think

[00:40:06] that's also

[00:40:06] what's fun

[00:40:07] too it

[00:40:07] makes fun

[00:40:08] of the

[00:40:08] holiday

[00:40:08] without

[00:40:09] villainizing

[00:40:10] it or

[00:40:10] killing the

[00:40:11] fun for

[00:40:12] those who

[00:40:12] do enjoy

[00:40:12] it but

[00:40:13] while also

[00:40:13] noting how

[00:40:15] everyone's

[00:40:15] kind of taken

[00:40:16] advantage of

[00:40:17] by the

[00:40:17] corporations

[00:40:17] that they

[00:40:18] work at

[00:40:19] half the

[00:40:19] time and

[00:40:21] uh but

[00:40:22] yes

[00:40:23] tom's

[00:40:24] point

[00:40:24] yeah i

[00:40:24] mean

[00:40:24] it goes

[00:40:25] in over

[00:40:27] the top

[00:40:29] you know

[00:40:29] dare i

[00:40:30] say going

[00:40:30] too far

[00:40:31] or losing

[00:40:32] everybody

[00:40:32] and i

[00:40:33] think that's

[00:40:34] just what's

[00:40:34] fun too

[00:40:35] is like hey

[00:40:36] hey you

[00:40:37] know that

[00:40:37] these guys

[00:40:38] you know

[00:40:39] they're

[00:40:40] they're over

[00:40:40] the top

[00:40:41] but you

[00:40:42] know that

[00:40:42] going in

[00:40:43] and i

[00:40:44] think that's

[00:40:45] why so

[00:40:45] many audiences

[00:40:46] have seen

[00:40:46] it those

[00:40:47] who are

[00:40:47] hardcore

[00:40:47] horror fans

[00:40:48] or sci-fi

[00:40:49] guys are

[00:40:50] gonna watch

[00:40:50] it as much

[00:40:51] as the

[00:40:52] guys who

[00:40:52] want a

[00:40:53] more over

[00:40:54] the top

[00:40:54] like south

[00:40:55] park meets

[00:40:56] looney tunes

[00:40:56] you know

[00:40:57] is it's

[00:40:57] that and

[00:40:59] this was

[00:40:59] before south

[00:40:59] park so i

[00:41:00] mean uh

[00:41:02] but yeah the

[00:41:03] beast from

[00:41:03] 20 000 fathoms

[00:41:04] was one of

[00:41:05] the one other

[00:41:05] movies in the

[00:41:06] control room and

[00:41:06] i think that's

[00:41:07] what's also fun

[00:41:08] too is it

[00:41:08] makes you want

[00:41:09] to seek out

[00:41:09] some of those

[00:41:09] other movies

[00:41:10] that you

[00:41:11] would have

[00:41:12] seen back

[00:41:12] in the day

[00:41:13] probably on

[00:41:13] late night

[00:41:14] tnt but you

[00:41:15] know you just

[00:41:16] didn't remember

[00:41:16] it just because

[00:41:17] there's so many

[00:41:18] of those creature

[00:41:18] features

[00:41:19] well you know

[00:41:20] there's a

[00:41:21] creature feature

[00:41:21] there's also

[00:41:22] just you know

[00:41:23] hats off

[00:41:24] a lot of

[00:41:25] homages to

[00:41:26] those old

[00:41:27] movies and

[00:41:27] stuff um

[00:41:28] and even

[00:41:28] musicals there's

[00:41:29] even a homage

[00:41:29] to you know

[00:41:30] like old 50s

[00:41:31] musicals in

[00:41:31] there somewhere

[00:41:32] in the second

[00:41:33] one oh

[00:41:34] especially when

[00:41:35] they're all

[00:41:35] singing yeah

[00:41:36] it's yeah

[00:41:37] yeah and

[00:41:39] yeah babe be

[00:41:40] sure to clean

[00:41:41] your microwaves

[00:41:42] after each

[00:41:42] viewing of

[00:41:43] these movies

[00:41:43] i mean

[00:41:48] oh this

[00:41:49] cartoon show

[00:41:50] you're talking

[00:41:50] about it

[00:41:51] it hasn't

[00:41:51] aired or

[00:41:52] anything yet

[00:41:52] has it

[00:41:53] oh it's

[00:41:53] aired but

[00:41:54] to be fair

[00:41:55] it was delayed

[00:41:56] like it was

[00:41:57] supposed to come

[00:41:57] out in like

[00:41:57] 2020 and

[00:41:58] then they

[00:41:59] sat on it

[00:41:59] for about

[00:42:00] two years

[00:42:00] for some

[00:42:01] dumb reason

[00:42:01] but i gotta

[00:42:03] say i felt

[00:42:04] like it really

[00:42:05] lived up to

[00:42:05] the hype it

[00:42:06] was really a

[00:42:06] lot of fun

[00:42:06] what was it

[00:42:07] airing on

[00:42:08] hbo max

[00:42:09] but hbo

[00:42:10] max okay

[00:42:10] i just saw

[00:42:11] jaws in the

[00:42:12] theater with my

[00:42:13] brother a week

[00:42:14] ago and i

[00:42:15] had so jealous

[00:42:16] yeah i

[00:42:17] remember um

[00:42:18] quince speech

[00:42:19] about the

[00:42:20] atomic

[00:42:21] that whole

[00:42:23] that whole

[00:42:23] dramatic

[00:42:24] speech

[00:42:24] 4500 men

[00:42:25] in the

[00:42:26] water and

[00:42:27] only 37

[00:42:27] came out or

[00:42:28] whatever it

[00:42:29] was

[00:42:29] yeah

[00:42:30] maybe kate's

[00:42:32] chimney speech

[00:42:33] is the

[00:42:34] equivalent

[00:42:34] it is a

[00:42:36] total jaws

[00:42:37] product

[00:42:37] i mean

[00:42:39] that's why it

[00:42:40] was a good

[00:42:40] combo

[00:42:41] originally

[00:42:42] water

[00:42:43] uh

[00:42:43] universal

[00:42:45] wanted to

[00:42:45] sue

[00:42:45] corman

[00:42:46] and

[00:42:47] spilberg

[00:42:47] was like

[00:42:48] don't do

[00:42:48] that

[00:42:48] piranha

[00:42:49] was the

[00:42:49] best of

[00:42:49] the jaws

[00:42:50] knockoffs

[00:42:51] you know

[00:42:51] so you

[00:42:52] know that's

[00:42:53] i think that's

[00:42:54] just people

[00:42:54] got to give

[00:42:55] all these

[00:42:55] guys a lot

[00:42:56] of credit

[00:42:56] dante and

[00:42:57] spilberg

[00:42:58] you know

[00:42:58] both good

[00:42:59] example of

[00:43:00] both wanting

[00:43:01] to do

[00:43:01] what they

[00:43:02] want to

[00:43:02] do

[00:43:02] and using

[00:43:03] b-movie

[00:43:04] tropes

[00:43:05] and then

[00:43:06] good

[00:43:07] business

[00:43:07] man and

[00:43:08] at the

[00:43:08] end of

[00:43:08] the day

[00:43:09] just like

[00:43:09] they know

[00:43:09] how to be

[00:43:10] patient and

[00:43:10] get everyone

[00:43:11] to behave

[00:43:11] on their

[00:43:12] sets so

[00:43:12] i mean

[00:43:13] but yeah

[00:43:14] that is a

[00:43:15] total

[00:43:15] jobs

[00:43:16] tribute

[00:43:16] i found out

[00:43:17] that the

[00:43:17] clamp

[00:43:18] center

[00:43:19] in movie

[00:43:19] two is

[00:43:20] was actually

[00:43:20] filmed at

[00:43:21] 101 park

[00:43:22] avenue in new

[00:43:22] york

[00:43:23] so okay

[00:43:24] yeah that

[00:43:24] makes sense

[00:43:25] because um

[00:43:26] joe dante i

[00:43:27] know was

[00:43:27] heavily influenced

[00:43:28] by like the

[00:43:30] the grindhouse

[00:43:30] films black

[00:43:31] rotation films

[00:43:32] and to some

[00:43:33] extent um

[00:43:34] i saw him in

[00:43:35] a documentary

[00:43:36] about actually

[00:43:38] a couple

[00:43:38] documentaries

[00:43:39] about about

[00:43:40] uh the

[00:43:42] grindhouse

[00:43:42] films uh

[00:43:43] where he

[00:43:44] talked about

[00:43:44] that particular

[00:43:46] part of new

[00:43:47] york where you

[00:43:47] could walk

[00:43:48] down the

[00:43:48] street i

[00:43:50] think it

[00:43:50] was nightmares

[00:43:50] any number

[00:43:51] of weird and

[00:43:52] bizarre

[00:43:53] movies

[00:43:54] well wasn't

[00:43:54] it nightmares

[00:43:55] and red

[00:43:55] white and

[00:43:55] blue i

[00:43:56] think he

[00:43:57] was in

[00:43:58] i know he

[00:43:59] was in that

[00:43:59] one but

[00:44:00] there's a

[00:44:00] couple of

[00:44:00] other ones

[00:44:01] there's one

[00:44:01] that's on

[00:44:02] tubi right

[00:44:02] now that

[00:44:02] i'm i

[00:44:04] can't remember

[00:44:04] the name

[00:44:05] off the top

[00:44:05] of my head

[00:44:05] but it

[00:44:07] it it

[00:44:08] goes like

[00:44:09] american

[00:44:09] grindhouse

[00:44:09] that's what

[00:44:10] it was

[00:44:11] i've heard

[00:44:11] his oh

[00:44:12] i've got

[00:44:12] that one

[00:44:12] yeah yeah

[00:44:13] that is a

[00:44:14] good one

[00:44:14] okay i will

[00:44:15] re-watch

[00:44:16] that one

[00:44:16] uh i

[00:44:17] i just love

[00:44:18] in general

[00:44:18] like his

[00:44:19] commentary tracks

[00:44:20] on movies

[00:44:20] like his

[00:44:21] piranha

[00:44:21] one is a

[00:44:22] hoot

[00:44:23] well you

[00:44:23] know you

[00:44:24] talked you

[00:44:24] mentioned

[00:44:24] something earlier

[00:44:25] about trailers

[00:44:26] from hell

[00:44:27] hell yes

[00:44:28] and i i

[00:44:29] remember watching

[00:44:29] those it's

[00:44:30] been a while

[00:44:30] but it was

[00:44:31] like him

[00:44:32] and i can't

[00:44:34] remember there

[00:44:34] it was not

[00:44:34] just him it

[00:44:35] was him and

[00:44:36] some other

[00:44:36] people talking

[00:44:36] about

[00:44:37] david d

[00:44:37] can't tell

[00:44:38] he has a

[00:44:49] george romero

[00:44:50] and then he

[00:44:52] has a

[00:44:55] that's a

[00:44:55] that's a good

[00:44:56] description

[00:44:57] uh

[00:44:57] that's just

[00:44:58] kind of

[00:44:58] always what

[00:44:59] i got

[00:44:59] i mean

[00:44:59] and

[00:45:00] because

[00:45:02] there's just

[00:45:02] so many

[00:45:03] of these

[00:45:03] movies that

[00:45:03] kind of

[00:45:04] have this

[00:45:04] same

[00:45:04] kind of

[00:45:05] comedy

[00:45:05] horror

[00:45:05] thing

[00:45:06] and they

[00:45:06] do both

[00:45:06] well

[00:45:07] without

[00:45:07] if they

[00:45:08] don't

[00:45:09] they're not

[00:45:09] inspired by

[00:45:09] that and

[00:45:10] then they

[00:45:10] at least got

[00:45:11] the ghostbusters

[00:45:12] thing where

[00:45:13] they creep you

[00:45:14] out but

[00:45:14] they're also

[00:45:15] having fun

[00:45:16] it's not

[00:45:17] it just knows

[00:45:18] how to channel

[00:45:18] all these elements

[00:45:19] without like

[00:45:20] like we've been

[00:45:21] saying without

[00:45:21] making you go

[00:45:22] this is uneven

[00:45:23] in a weird

[00:45:25] in a weird way

[00:45:25] i mean because

[00:45:26] gremlins 2

[00:45:27] came out in

[00:45:27] 1990

[00:45:28] yeah i mean

[00:45:29] these movies

[00:45:30] should not

[00:45:30] work but

[00:45:31] they do

[00:45:31] but it

[00:45:32] but they

[00:45:33] but it

[00:45:33] it has a

[00:45:34] kind of

[00:45:34] feel to it

[00:45:35] the same

[00:45:35] as like

[00:45:35] you mentioned

[00:45:36] earlier

[00:45:36] there's army

[00:45:37] of darkness

[00:45:37] it's got

[00:45:38] the same

[00:45:38] kind of

[00:45:38] feel as

[00:45:38] that

[00:45:53] that you

[00:45:54] know but

[00:45:54] so that

[00:45:54] so well

[00:45:56] too

[00:45:56] i mean

[00:45:57] that's what

[00:45:57] he was

[00:45:58] raised on

[00:46:02] so if

[00:46:02] anything

[00:46:03] these movies

[00:46:03] make you

[00:46:04] appreciate

[00:46:05] older movies

[00:46:05] that

[00:46:07] some of us

[00:46:07] have seen

[00:46:08] and others

[00:46:08] haven't but

[00:46:09] are about to

[00:46:09] get into

[00:46:10] so it's

[00:46:10] kind of a

[00:46:12] it's a

[00:46:13] looking glass

[00:46:13] i guess

[00:46:14] it's a

[00:46:14] trip back

[00:46:15] in time

[00:46:16] never

[00:46:16] encountered

[00:46:17] anyone who

[00:46:17] really doesn't

[00:46:18] like it

[00:46:18] unless they're

[00:46:19] just that

[00:46:19] rare person

[00:46:20] who just

[00:46:20] i don't know

[00:46:21] just

[00:46:24] honestly

[00:46:25] rarely

[00:46:26] have i

[00:46:27] encountered

[00:46:27] it

[00:46:27] yeah

[00:46:28] i just

[00:46:29] read about

[00:46:29] people

[00:46:30] i've never

[00:46:30] really actually

[00:46:31] encountered

[00:46:31] people that

[00:46:32] that hated

[00:46:33] it but i've

[00:46:33] read about

[00:46:33] people who

[00:46:34] didn't like

[00:46:34] it

[00:46:34] i've seen

[00:46:35] i maybe

[00:46:36] encountered

[00:46:37] one person

[00:46:37] who just

[00:46:38] for whatever

[00:46:38] reason just

[00:46:39] thought it

[00:46:39] was too

[00:46:39] dumb i'm

[00:46:40] like are

[00:46:40] you serious

[00:46:41] you like

[00:46:42] all this

[00:46:42] other stuff

[00:46:43] i feel like

[00:46:45] people that

[00:46:45] don't like

[00:46:46] it like

[00:46:46] never really

[00:46:47] watched the

[00:46:48] movie or

[00:46:49] they saw

[00:46:50] you know

[00:46:50] all the way

[00:46:51] through

[00:46:51] poster i

[00:46:52] guess yeah

[00:46:52] yeah

[00:46:53] like um

[00:46:54] like in

[00:46:55] my in

[00:46:55] my family

[00:46:56] um princess

[00:46:57] bride is a

[00:46:58] huge thing

[00:46:58] in my

[00:46:59] family

[00:46:59] oh

[00:46:59] um

[00:47:00] and my

[00:47:01] my brother's

[00:47:03] wife

[00:47:03] hates the

[00:47:04] movie because

[00:47:05] she's never

[00:47:06] seen it

[00:47:06] the entire

[00:47:07] way through

[00:47:08] she's gotten

[00:47:08] like 20

[00:47:09] minutes into

[00:47:10] it and

[00:47:10] she's like

[00:47:10] this is

[00:47:10] kind of

[00:47:11] boring

[00:47:11] and i'm

[00:47:12] just like

[00:47:13] dude you

[00:47:13] need to

[00:47:13] divorce this

[00:47:14] woman

[00:47:15] is she

[00:47:16] of this

[00:47:17] generation

[00:47:17] with cell

[00:47:17] phones

[00:47:18] i have

[00:47:18] actually

[00:47:21] hate on

[00:47:21] it recently

[00:47:22] go oh

[00:47:22] it's not

[00:47:23] funny i'm

[00:47:23] like does

[00:47:25] everything have

[00:47:25] to be fart

[00:47:26] jokes to

[00:47:26] you what's

[00:47:27] going on

[00:47:28] here

[00:47:30] but yeah

[00:47:31] no

[00:47:32] we all

[00:47:33] have

[00:47:33] on popular

[00:47:34] opinions

[00:47:35] we all

[00:47:36] have unpopular

[00:47:36] opinions but

[00:47:37] it might be

[00:47:38] a new

[00:47:39] generation

[00:47:39] kind of

[00:47:40] thing

[00:47:40] there might

[00:47:40] be just

[00:47:40] people

[00:47:41] like they

[00:47:41] don't get

[00:47:42] it or

[00:47:43] they i

[00:47:44] don't know

[00:47:44] some movies

[00:47:45] require a

[00:47:45] crowd that

[00:47:46] you gotta

[00:47:47] watch them

[00:47:47] with just

[00:47:47] to get

[00:47:48] all the

[00:47:48] jokes but

[00:47:49] it's a

[00:47:50] peculiar

[00:47:50] one because

[00:47:51] it's also

[00:47:51] one that's

[00:47:52] often considered

[00:47:52] pretty agreeable

[00:47:53] to many

[00:47:54] crowds so

[00:47:54] i don't

[00:47:55] know what

[00:47:55] it is

[00:47:56] i mean

[00:47:57] that that's

[00:47:57] honestly the

[00:47:58] the you

[00:47:59] know watching

[00:48:00] watching a

[00:48:01] movie with

[00:48:02] other people

[00:48:02] i mean you

[00:48:03] you've seen

[00:48:04] the kind

[00:48:04] of movies

[00:48:05] that uh

[00:48:06] in uh

[00:48:07] bad movies

[00:48:07] role yes

[00:48:09] and all the

[00:48:10] hot takes they

[00:48:11] have once

[00:48:11] in a while

[00:48:11] where they're

[00:48:12] like whoa

[00:48:12] whoa yeah

[00:48:14] there there's

[00:48:14] some really

[00:48:15] bad movies

[00:48:15] that have

[00:48:16] been played

[00:48:17] um but i

[00:48:18] mean definitely

[00:48:19] your opinions

[00:48:20] change on a

[00:48:21] movie if

[00:48:22] you're watching

[00:48:22] it with other

[00:48:23] people because

[00:48:24] you can for

[00:48:26] a bad movie

[00:48:27] you can kind

[00:48:27] of rip on

[00:48:28] it with other

[00:48:28] people that

[00:48:29] makes you enjoy

[00:48:30] it a bit

[00:48:31] more because

[00:48:33] well and plus

[00:48:34] everything is

[00:48:35] awesome at 2 a.m

[00:48:36] in the morning

[00:48:38] especially if

[00:48:39] you're not

[00:48:39] conscious

[00:48:40] like why is

[00:48:42] Liam Neeson

[00:48:43] beating up

[00:48:43] people why is

[00:48:45] someone getting

[00:48:45] sliced in half

[00:48:46] what's going

[00:48:47] on

[00:48:50] thomas and

[00:48:50] i thomas

[00:48:51] and i

[00:48:54] thomas and

[00:48:55] i in august

[00:48:55] are gonna go

[00:48:56] see um

[00:48:57] what is it

[00:48:58] it's a

[00:48:58] riff tracks

[00:48:59] for the

[00:48:59] point break

[00:49:01] i got my

[00:49:01] ticket already

[00:49:02] too

[00:49:02] i love that

[00:49:03] movie but i'm

[00:49:04] sure it'll be

[00:49:04] fun

[00:49:06] are you going

[00:49:06] to the live

[00:49:07] show gill

[00:49:07] yeah yeah

[00:49:08] yeah well

[00:49:09] simulcast we

[00:49:10] don't

[00:49:11] that's awesome

[00:49:12] okay

[00:49:13] but live yeah

[00:49:14] you're seeing it

[00:49:14] in the theater

[00:49:15] with other

[00:49:15] misties

[00:49:16] yeah i never

[00:49:18] miss those

[00:49:18] yeah gremlins

[00:49:20] is basically

[00:49:20] about infestation

[00:49:24] you don't feel

[00:49:25] so bad about

[00:49:26] having an

[00:49:26] ant in your

[00:49:27] house or

[00:49:27] even a bat

[00:49:28] after seeing

[00:49:29] gremlins you

[00:49:29] know we can

[00:49:30] handle this you

[00:49:31] know scorpions

[00:49:32] look tame now

[00:49:32] yeah yeah

[00:49:33] exactly but the

[00:49:35] cleanup on those

[00:49:36] guys is horrific

[00:49:37] when they're

[00:49:37] oh man

[00:49:39] burn the house

[00:49:40] down and collect

[00:49:41] the insurance

[00:49:42] money yeah

[00:49:43] well you know

[00:49:43] and then when

[00:49:44] when what's his

[00:49:45] name glover

[00:49:46] it's an accident

[00:49:47] when he comes

[00:49:48] running in to

[00:49:48] try to save the

[00:49:49] day and he

[00:49:50] slips

[00:49:53] oh man

[00:49:56] not even a bfg

[00:49:58] from doom

[00:49:59] video game would

[00:50:00] be enough to

[00:50:00] deal with these

[00:50:01] critters

[00:50:04] but yes

[00:50:05] i love how they

[00:50:05] have the big

[00:50:06] build up to

[00:50:07] drop the curtain

[00:50:07] and then they

[00:50:08] just oh

[00:50:09] rain

[00:50:11] it's like the

[00:50:12] money python

[00:50:13] eclipse

[00:50:13] skit you

[00:50:14] know

[00:50:14] oh rain

[00:50:15] and it's

[00:50:16] pythonish

[00:50:17] yeah

[00:50:18] oh man

[00:50:19] i i love

[00:50:20] how they die

[00:50:21] in the second

[00:50:23] one just like

[00:50:23] you know

[00:50:24] the the one

[00:50:24] i think he's

[00:50:25] like i'm

[00:50:26] melting

[00:50:26] melting

[00:50:27] you know

[00:50:27] and just like

[00:50:29] yeah

[00:50:30] complete with

[00:50:31] the witch hat

[00:50:31] yeah

[00:50:33] well you know

[00:50:34] it was earned

[00:50:35] well i mean

[00:50:36] they had that

[00:50:37] one they had

[00:50:37] the trope of

[00:50:38] where you

[00:50:38] know

[00:50:39] what they were

[00:50:39] planning to do

[00:50:40] didn't work

[00:50:40] so now we got

[00:50:41] to do something

[00:50:41] different

[00:50:42] right

[00:50:44] i think that's

[00:50:44] what's fun too

[00:50:45] it didn't get

[00:50:46] repetitive

[00:50:47] they're always

[00:50:47] there's all

[00:50:48] it's a new

[00:50:49] it's like you're

[00:50:49] in a one giant

[00:50:50] giant minotaur maze

[00:50:51] and there's all

[00:50:52] these different

[00:50:52] foes

[00:50:53] of different

[00:50:54] sizes

[00:50:54] and personas

[00:50:55] yeah

[00:50:56] it's

[00:50:57] it's very

[00:50:58] indiana jones

[00:50:58] i don't know

[00:50:59] even my

[00:51:00] uncle and

[00:51:01] some other

[00:51:01] pals who've

[00:51:02] been on here

[00:51:02] aren't really

[00:51:03] horror or dark

[00:51:04] comedy guys

[00:51:05] but they love

[00:51:05] gremlins

[00:51:05] they're like

[00:51:06] oh yeah

[00:51:06] it's cute

[00:51:07] and over the

[00:51:07] top and fun

[00:51:08] it's just

[00:51:09] over

[00:51:09] it's it's

[00:51:10] somehow just

[00:51:11] it's pleasurable

[00:51:12] to everybody

[00:51:13] it's really

[00:51:15] which yeah

[00:51:16] which surprised

[00:51:17] me they only

[00:51:17] ever had the

[00:51:18] two movies

[00:51:19] yeah i i i'd

[00:51:21] like to know

[00:51:22] how they marketed

[00:51:23] part two back

[00:51:23] in the day

[00:51:24] because it

[00:51:24] just didn't

[00:51:26] exactly make

[00:51:27] back its money

[00:51:28] but it it

[00:51:29] surely it made

[00:51:30] enough on home

[00:51:31] video

[00:51:32] yeah i was

[00:51:34] i was like

[00:51:35] four when the

[00:51:37] first one came

[00:51:38] out

[00:51:38] and that was

[00:51:40] in 89

[00:51:41] when i finally

[00:51:43] saw it and

[00:51:43] then two came

[00:51:44] out like the

[00:51:45] next year

[00:51:45] um

[00:51:47] but yeah i

[00:51:49] mean as a

[00:51:49] kid terrified

[00:51:51] by the first

[00:51:52] one but then

[00:51:53] they're like my

[00:51:53] my brothers and

[00:51:54] everybody was

[00:51:55] like yeah we're

[00:51:55] gonna go see

[00:51:56] it and it's

[00:51:56] like yeah bring

[00:51:58] the five-year-old

[00:52:04] and i mean i i

[00:52:06] loved that the

[00:52:07] second one is

[00:52:08] just kooky uh

[00:52:10] it's more

[00:52:11] comedic and

[00:52:11] everything it

[00:52:12] still has that

[00:52:13] scary feel you

[00:52:14] know like with

[00:52:15] the spider one

[00:52:16] uh and a few

[00:52:17] other a few

[00:52:18] other gremlins

[00:52:19] but it it

[00:52:22] was definitely

[00:52:22] gear it seemed

[00:52:24] like it definitely

[00:52:24] was trying to

[00:52:25] get the younger

[00:52:26] audience to

[00:52:27] like try to

[00:52:28] fall in love

[00:52:29] with gremlins

[00:52:30] yeah it was

[00:52:31] so earned

[00:52:31] i mean

[00:52:32] spielberg produced

[00:52:33] an animated

[00:52:34] movie years

[00:52:34] later that

[00:52:36] monster house i

[00:52:37] think it was for

[00:52:38] zemeckis and i

[00:52:39] was instantly

[00:52:40] looking at it

[00:52:40] i'm like that

[00:52:41] this is another

[00:52:42] gremlins vanity

[00:52:43] project

[00:52:44] and i don't

[00:52:46] mean that a

[00:52:46] bad way but

[00:52:46] it's just it's

[00:52:47] just so funny

[00:52:48] how even

[00:52:49] movies that

[00:52:50] he's just

[00:52:50] producer on

[00:52:51] like poltergeist

[00:52:52] like it just

[00:52:52] has that feel

[00:52:53] and i think i

[00:52:54] do credit him

[00:52:55] as kind of

[00:52:55] kind of like i

[00:52:56] credit walter hill

[00:52:57] for making me

[00:52:57] get into westerns

[00:52:58] because every

[00:52:59] movie he does

[00:52:59] is basically

[00:53:00] a cowboy

[00:53:00] who happens

[00:53:01] to be a cop

[00:53:02] you know and

[00:53:03] same thing with

[00:53:03] spielberg he

[00:53:04] got me into

[00:53:06] alien sci-fi

[00:53:07] and unusual

[00:53:08] spooky horror

[00:53:09] but he also

[00:53:10] just knew how

[00:53:11] to both

[00:53:12] have the right

[00:53:13] amount of drama

[00:53:14] as well as

[00:53:15] popcorn thrill

[00:53:15] and chills

[00:53:16] it's just

[00:53:16] it's a rarity

[00:53:18] and i i think

[00:53:19] that's the other

[00:53:19] problem why

[00:53:20] hollywood has

[00:53:21] struggles to

[00:53:22] recreate this

[00:53:22] they don't know

[00:53:24] how the sausage

[00:53:24] is made

[00:53:25] they don't

[00:53:25] know how

[00:53:25] you know

[00:53:27] what will

[00:53:28] make up the

[00:53:28] building blocks

[00:53:29] and it's like

[00:53:29] just keep

[00:53:31] interviewing the

[00:53:31] masters and

[00:53:32] see how they

[00:53:33] made it

[00:53:33] you know

[00:53:35] a lot of

[00:53:36] a lot of

[00:53:37] corporate things

[00:53:38] are involved

[00:53:38] in things

[00:53:39] nowadays

[00:53:39] so

[00:53:40] but i mean

[00:53:41] to my earlier

[00:53:41] point yeah i

[00:53:42] mean it's

[00:53:43] totally jaws

[00:53:43] i mean it

[00:53:44] always goes back

[00:53:45] to jaws

[00:53:45] show the monster

[00:53:46] when you got

[00:53:47] to show it

[00:53:48] it seems like

[00:53:49] movies are made

[00:53:50] by committee

[00:53:50] more and more

[00:53:51] now it's just

[00:53:51] like yeah

[00:53:53] we all have

[00:53:54] these movies

[00:53:54] which we like

[00:53:55] and then when

[00:53:55] they have a

[00:53:56] sequel that

[00:53:57] didn't need to

[00:53:57] be made

[00:53:58] and like

[00:53:58] ah come on

[00:53:59] you know

[00:54:00] i did get a

[00:54:01] kick out of

[00:54:02] this i looked

[00:54:02] it up

[00:54:03] he's in

[00:54:04] the second

[00:54:04] one

[00:54:05] yeah leonard

[00:54:06] baldman he

[00:54:07] he's he's

[00:54:08] basting

[00:54:09] right

[00:54:09] he's basting

[00:54:11] gremlins 2

[00:54:11] or the gremlin

[00:54:12] the first gremlins

[00:54:13] movie and then

[00:54:14] the gremlins

[00:54:15] attack and kill

[00:54:15] him or eat

[00:54:16] him

[00:54:18] but he did

[00:54:19] he gave

[00:54:20] gremlins 1 a

[00:54:20] 2

[00:54:21] in here

[00:54:22] and then

[00:54:22] 3 that he's

[00:54:24] in a 3

[00:54:24] so

[00:54:25] extra star

[00:54:26] because he's

[00:54:27] in it i guess

[00:54:27] yeah

[00:54:29] that was fun

[00:54:30] i really was

[00:54:31] witty it

[00:54:32] reminded me of

[00:54:33] his mr science

[00:54:33] theater appearance

[00:54:34] and yeah

[00:54:35] as many hot

[00:54:36] takes as he's

[00:54:37] had i've always

[00:54:37] liked seeing him

[00:54:38] in different

[00:54:39] documentaries but

[00:54:39] how old is he

[00:54:40] now he's like

[00:54:41] he is

[00:54:43] how old is

[00:54:43] leonard moulton

[00:54:44] he is

[00:54:46] 73 years

[00:54:47] old my god

[00:54:49] still kicking

[00:54:52] yeah i don't

[00:54:52] i don't know

[00:54:53] i don't know

[00:54:54] why he didn't

[00:54:54] care for the

[00:54:55] first gremlins

[00:54:55] but that's

[00:54:56] that is funny

[00:54:57] yeah

[00:54:58] um he does

[00:54:59] well you know

[00:54:59] and and if

[00:55:00] they're going

[00:55:00] off if they're

[00:55:02] going off an

[00:55:02] actual like

[00:55:03] review that he

[00:55:04] gave the first

[00:55:05] gremlins the guy

[00:55:06] called him in to

[00:55:06] do this part to do

[00:55:08] this you know to

[00:55:08] yeah

[00:55:09] he had a sense

[00:55:10] of humor about

[00:55:10] it i guess

[00:55:12] i mean the

[00:55:13] dude had an

[00:55:14] episode on

[00:55:16] mystery science

[00:55:16] theory 3000

[00:55:17] for he gave

[00:55:18] laser blast

[00:55:19] he's in on

[00:55:20] it

[00:55:20] yeah

[00:55:22] oh

[00:55:24] it's all

[00:55:25] good we all

[00:55:26] have hot

[00:55:26] digs

[00:55:28] well for some

[00:55:29] reason it's a

[00:55:29] 6.4 on

[00:55:30] imdb are you

[00:55:31] kidding me

[00:55:32] it was not

[00:55:33] rated that last

[00:55:34] year

[00:55:35] what the hell

[00:55:38] can ratings

[00:55:39] change as time

[00:55:40] goes by

[00:55:40] they can but

[00:55:42] i swear

[00:55:43] even the

[00:55:44] first one is

[00:55:45] only a 7

[00:55:45] what

[00:55:46] what

[00:55:48] okay

[00:55:50] your take

[00:55:50] guys

[00:55:51] i'll have to

[00:55:52] respect it

[00:55:55] oh

[00:55:55] ratings are so

[00:55:57] crazy anyway

[00:55:57] you know

[00:55:58] all these top

[00:55:59] 100 lists

[00:55:59] they're never

[00:56:00] going to be the

[00:56:01] same

[00:56:01] you know

[00:56:02] right

[00:56:04] i mean it'd

[00:56:05] be boring if

[00:56:05] it was

[00:56:05] meaningless when

[00:56:06] you think about

[00:56:07] it lists

[00:56:07] you know

[00:56:08] why does

[00:56:09] anyone have a

[00:56:09] list

[00:56:10] especially

[00:56:10] when now

[00:56:11] when the

[00:56:11] whole point

[00:56:11] of it is

[00:56:12] to stir

[00:56:12] people up

[00:56:13] kind of

[00:56:13] yeah

[00:56:14] well i

[00:56:15] mean they're

[00:56:15] kind of

[00:56:16] magazines are

[00:56:17] used to

[00:56:17] yeah

[00:56:17] they're kind

[00:56:18] of capsules

[00:56:19] for the

[00:56:19] time because

[00:56:20] as more

[00:56:21] movies get

[00:56:21] made those

[00:56:22] things are

[00:56:22] going to

[00:56:23] change

[00:56:23] yeah

[00:56:24] yeah

[00:56:26] oh man

[00:56:28] so

[00:56:29] there was a

[00:56:31] hub channel

[00:56:32] which was

[00:56:33] kind of had

[00:56:33] a lot of

[00:56:33] family

[00:56:34] networks

[00:56:36] but

[00:56:37] i think it

[00:56:38] stopped around

[00:56:39] 2014 but

[00:56:40] they apparently

[00:56:41] would air

[00:56:41] everything from

[00:56:43] south park to

[00:56:44] transformers and

[00:56:45] they apparently

[00:56:45] aired

[00:56:48] gremlins but

[00:56:49] they would cut

[00:56:49] out this

[00:56:50] the blend

[00:56:50] the microwave

[00:56:51] and blender

[00:56:52] rampage scene

[00:56:53] but apparently

[00:56:53] hbo family

[00:56:54] whenever they

[00:56:55] aired delete

[00:56:55] three scenes

[00:56:56] involving

[00:56:56] gremlins dying

[00:56:57] so it's like

[00:56:58] jeez what

[00:56:58] are these

[00:56:59] alternate cuts

[00:57:00] in this movie

[00:57:00] with us making

[00:57:01] play back

[00:57:01] what was the

[00:57:02] rating on

[00:57:02] gremlins

[00:57:03] it was pg

[00:57:04] pg but the

[00:57:06] sequel was pg-13

[00:57:07] so i mean

[00:57:07] i don't know

[00:57:09] oh do you guys

[00:57:10] not know the

[00:57:10] story about the

[00:57:11] pg-13 stuff

[00:57:12] with this

[00:57:13] that oh

[00:57:13] yeah we

[00:57:14] talked about

[00:57:14] it with the

[00:57:15] temple of doom

[00:57:16] and everything

[00:57:16] but it

[00:57:17] temple of doom

[00:57:18] and gremlins

[00:57:19] came out and

[00:57:19] they were both

[00:57:20] pg movies and

[00:57:21] people freaked

[00:57:21] out about it and

[00:57:22] that's what started

[00:57:23] them making or

[00:57:24] they that's when

[00:57:25] they added pg-13

[00:57:26] for stuff in

[00:57:27] between

[00:57:27] and now we're

[00:57:31] having the other

[00:57:31] arguments where oh

[00:57:32] this is too much

[00:57:33] for r-13 it's

[00:57:34] like oh my god

[00:57:36] maybe we're just

[00:57:37] getting old

[00:57:39] yeah

[00:57:41] yeah

[00:57:42] do you guys

[00:57:43] watch these

[00:57:45] annually or

[00:57:45] just once the

[00:57:46] blue moon

[00:57:49] um i'd probably

[00:57:50] say every four

[00:57:51] or five years

[00:57:52] maybe is when i

[00:57:52] watch it

[00:57:53] yeah that's

[00:57:54] fine i dragged

[00:57:55] them out because

[00:57:56] uh we're gonna

[00:57:57] do a podcast

[00:57:58] on them

[00:57:58] right

[00:57:59] well i mean

[00:58:00] i bought them

[00:58:01] in christ i bought

[00:58:02] them christmas

[00:58:03] because there was

[00:58:04] a sell on them

[00:58:04] on voodoo so i

[00:58:06] bought them on

[00:58:06] christmas and i

[00:58:08] watched them then

[00:58:08] okay and i'm like

[00:58:09] well it wasn't that

[00:58:10] long ago i watched

[00:58:11] it but it looks like

[00:58:12] i'm watching it again

[00:58:12] before this podcast

[00:58:13] so i may have

[00:58:15] done recorded

[00:58:16] these when i had a

[00:58:17] dvd burner

[00:58:18] but or vcr

[00:58:19] i might have

[00:58:20] them somewhere but

[00:58:21] somewhere i just i

[00:58:22] just bought them

[00:58:23] again you know

[00:58:23] they're cheap to

[00:58:24] stream so

[00:58:25] well yeah i got a

[00:58:26] lot of stuff i

[00:58:26] recorded off tv

[00:58:27] from over the

[00:58:29] last 20 years or

[00:58:30] 30 years or

[00:58:30] whatever

[00:58:30] yeah cyphor

[00:58:31] channel would

[00:58:31] air them a lot

[00:58:32] and i do recall

[00:58:33] previous forum

[00:58:34] back or definitely

[00:58:36] around 2002 they

[00:58:37] would reissue the

[00:58:38] dv they put them on

[00:58:40] dvd for the first

[00:58:41] time but they would

[00:58:42] advertise them a

[00:58:42] bunch for even

[00:58:43] family kind of

[00:58:44] stuff like looney

[00:58:45] tunes and other

[00:58:46] warner titles so

[00:58:47] i mean the love is

[00:58:49] there and i'll

[00:58:50] definitely take out

[00:58:51] the blu-rays and

[00:58:52] look at the special

[00:58:53] features probably next

[00:58:54] year you know it's

[00:58:55] just again because

[00:58:56] it's a labor of

[00:58:58] love it's really

[00:58:59] it's just when

[00:59:00] you like to see

[00:59:01] how something is

[00:59:02] made and you

[00:59:02] love seeing people

[00:59:03] talk about it for

[00:59:04] five more hours and

[00:59:05] then a month again

[00:59:07] from now then

[00:59:09] it's not just a

[00:59:10] one-off you know

[00:59:11] it's i know for

[00:59:14] me it was probably

[00:59:15] the first time in

[00:59:16] 10 or 15 years i

[00:59:17] had seen it it had

[00:59:18] been quite a while

[00:59:19] but to keep with

[00:59:20] the theme of the

[00:59:21] first one being

[00:59:22] christmas it was

[00:59:22] like putting on a

[00:59:23] warm sweater again

[00:59:24] that you were like

[00:59:25] oh this still fits

[00:59:25] so nice and comfy

[00:59:27] yeah true and i

[00:59:29] mean don't get me

[00:59:29] wrong we don't want

[00:59:30] to ruin certain

[00:59:31] movies for us because

[00:59:31] there are ones where

[00:59:32] if you watch them too

[00:59:33] much that might make

[00:59:35] you draw sick of it

[00:59:35] but yeah somehow

[00:59:36] it's able to not be

[00:59:39] too much i know

[00:59:42] uh i was struck by

[00:59:43] seeing the twin towers

[00:59:44] in the opening shot

[00:59:47] yeah yeah oh that

[00:59:49] made me that made me

[00:59:50] a little sad i'm

[00:59:51] trying to remember

[00:59:52] were the twin towers

[00:59:53] in the first spider-man

[00:59:54] movie or were they

[00:59:55] they were edited

[00:59:57] out yeah they

[00:59:58] were edited out

[00:59:58] yeah trailer and

[01:00:00] although that was

[01:00:03] one epic trailer

[01:00:04] jumping on top of a

[01:00:06] copter

[01:00:10] but yeah i'd watch

[01:00:12] uh like gremlins 2

[01:00:13] i would definitely

[01:00:14] watch with the ones

[01:00:15] i mentioned earlier

[01:00:15] army of darkness

[01:00:16] and uh

[01:00:18] and uh big trouble

[01:00:20] little china

[01:00:20] yeah ghostbusters

[01:00:23] i do i'd put lost

[01:00:25] boys in there probably

[01:00:26] one summer it'd be

[01:00:27] fun i think that's the

[01:00:28] other thing too much

[01:00:29] like diehard even though

[01:00:30] it's a christmas movies

[01:00:31] that you don't have to

[01:00:32] necessarily watch them at

[01:00:33] that time of the year

[01:00:35] yeah you can watch it in

[01:00:37] january you can watch

[01:00:38] it in may it doesn't

[01:00:39] matter it's fun

[01:00:41] lincoln's birthday

[01:00:43] yeah that got that got so

[01:00:45] dark

[01:00:55] that's what i love

[01:00:56] it was really

[01:00:58] it was really dark

[01:00:59] that's what's also

[01:01:00] awesome is like the

[01:01:01] characters are in a

[01:01:02] dark place and we're

[01:01:03] laughing at their

[01:01:04] misery but we don't

[01:01:04] feel guilty and at the

[01:01:05] same time that only makes

[01:01:06] them more likable

[01:01:07] because we actually

[01:01:08] want them to survive

[01:01:09] the madness it's

[01:01:11] it's crazy it's a

[01:01:12] weird in any other

[01:01:13] movie this probably

[01:01:14] wouldn't work it just

[01:01:15] we would be like oh

[01:01:16] this is too much or

[01:01:17] there's not enough

[01:01:18] development it's like

[01:01:19] no it's just right it's

[01:01:20] just she sure had a

[01:01:23] slow burn with what

[01:01:24] was going on between

[01:01:25] him and his boss

[01:01:26] there i mean he comes

[01:01:27] over the lipstick

[01:01:27] face and she's

[01:01:29] that red-headed girl

[01:01:31] is familiar does

[01:01:31] anybody else know

[01:01:33] her from anything

[01:01:33] because yeah she

[01:01:36] also voices theodora

[01:01:37] in the gremlins

[01:01:38] cartoon show oh my

[01:01:39] god yeah she's a

[01:01:40] broadway actress

[01:01:42] done a lot of soap

[01:01:43] opera stuff law and

[01:01:46] order appearances oh

[01:01:47] my god

[01:01:50] yeah she really

[01:01:51] leads heavy on the

[01:01:52] brooklyn accent in this

[01:01:53] movie yeah i was just

[01:01:54] like okay so she was

[01:01:56] she's caroline in

[01:01:57] sixteen candles oh

[01:01:59] okay there we go and

[01:02:01] she was in madonna's

[01:02:02] who's that girl nice

[01:02:03] okay cool nice call

[01:02:05] like but i do recall

[01:02:07] that there was a lot

[01:02:08] of like i'm clearly

[01:02:09] from brooklyn or

[01:02:10] this person's from

[01:02:11] manhattan

[01:02:12] it's a very new york

[01:02:13] movie her character

[01:02:15] reminded me a little

[01:02:16] bit of um in joe

[01:02:18] vernis volcano meg

[01:02:19] ryan's redhead

[01:02:20] character

[01:02:21] yeah that would be a

[01:02:23] fun double feature

[01:02:24] yeah

[01:02:25] all she needed to do

[01:02:26] was say ferbita jibbit

[01:02:27] yeah

[01:02:29] i have no

[01:02:30] i have no reaction to

[01:02:32] that was that her

[01:02:33] line or

[01:02:33] yeah it was something

[01:02:34] like that yeah

[01:02:35] and

[01:02:36] kind of the same

[01:02:37] character yeah

[01:02:38] oh man

[01:02:39] anyway

[01:02:41] uh

[01:02:43] charlie and john have

[01:02:44] you uh showed this to

[01:02:46] your kids

[01:02:48] um i have not i was

[01:02:50] going to watch these

[01:02:53] two with my kids before

[01:02:54] coming on

[01:02:55] did they do the usual

[01:02:56] oh it's an

[01:02:57] how old are your kids

[01:02:59] six and twelve

[01:03:01] um but

[01:03:03] um

[01:03:04] told them when i saw

[01:03:05] the first one

[01:03:06] it's been a long time

[01:03:07] since i've seen

[01:03:08] these movies i was

[01:03:09] like i want to enjoy

[01:03:11] these without like

[01:03:12] having to

[01:03:13] ask a million

[01:03:15] questions and like

[01:03:16] you know do all

[01:03:17] that stuff i was

[01:03:18] like let me just

[01:03:19] enjoy this

[01:03:20] real quick

[01:03:20] i hear you dude

[01:03:21] i i do this all the

[01:03:23] time where i put

[01:03:23] subtitles on and then

[01:03:24] i see people who

[01:03:25] haven't even brought

[01:03:26] in their glasses

[01:03:26] i'm like are you

[01:03:27] serious right now

[01:03:30] i've noticed like

[01:03:31] if you get a room

[01:03:32] with like if you're

[01:03:33] in a room trying to

[01:03:34] watch a movie with

[01:03:35] three kids and they're

[01:03:36] all under 12

[01:03:37] you're not going to

[01:03:37] get that movie

[01:03:38] watched

[01:03:40] yeah unfortunately

[01:03:41] yeah

[01:03:42] yeah pretty much

[01:03:43] all kinds of other

[01:03:44] stuff it's like

[01:03:45] um

[01:03:47] i know i do not

[01:03:48] have any kids yet

[01:03:49] so i've not shown it

[01:03:50] to mine but i

[01:03:51] would imagine

[01:03:51] three three's probably

[01:03:53] old enough three or

[01:03:54] four

[01:03:54] would you

[01:03:58] you could do what

[01:04:01] to do with any

[01:04:03] eddie murphy movie

[01:04:03] where you show them

[01:04:04] the parts that

[01:04:05] should be okay and

[01:04:06] then the other ones

[01:04:07] you're like oh you

[01:04:07] can wait till you're

[01:04:08] you know

[01:04:09] yeah

[01:04:11] um

[01:04:12] do you ever uh

[01:04:15] have you maybe you

[01:04:15] can show it to your

[01:04:16] nephews nieces

[01:04:18] cousins

[01:04:18] i do have a seven

[01:04:19] year old nephew

[01:04:20] that i uh always joke

[01:04:21] to my sister about

[01:04:23] that i'm going to

[01:04:23] show him die hard

[01:04:24] gladiator

[01:04:25] oh my god

[01:04:28] are you not

[01:04:29] entertained nephew

[01:04:32] i had a

[01:04:32] i i have a niece

[01:04:34] who's like

[01:04:35] was 12 or 13

[01:04:36] at the time

[01:04:37] she was

[01:04:38] adamant that she

[01:04:39] wanted to see

[01:04:39] beetlejuice in the

[01:04:40] theater

[01:04:42] but i took her to

[01:04:44] watch beetlejuice in

[01:04:45] the theater

[01:04:45] i i was like saying

[01:04:47] well we could rent

[01:04:47] it or i could buy it

[01:04:48] you know off of

[01:04:49] tv and we could

[01:04:51] watch it home

[01:04:51] and she's no i want

[01:04:52] to see it in the

[01:04:52] theater so i took her

[01:04:53] to see it in the

[01:04:53] theater and like

[01:04:54] 30 minutes into the

[01:04:55] movie she was

[01:04:56] falling asleep

[01:04:56] are you

[01:04:57] oh my god

[01:04:58] i was like oh

[01:04:59] this isn't gonna

[01:05:00] happen again

[01:05:01] yeah if you want

[01:05:02] to see it we're

[01:05:03] doing it on my

[01:05:04] term instead of

[01:05:05] the oh can i walk

[01:05:06] out now bullshit

[01:05:07] yeah it's that's

[01:05:09] nice if anyone

[01:05:10] wants to promote

[01:05:10] anything let me

[01:05:11] know if not

[01:05:12] we're out

[01:05:13] i'm retired

[01:05:16] so is john

[01:05:17] mclean's

[01:05:17] i would never

[01:05:19] say that to

[01:05:19] gizmo

[01:05:20] i do work

[01:05:21] at the library

[01:05:22] i do file a lot

[01:05:23] of uh comic

[01:05:24] or graphic novels

[01:05:26] so

[01:05:28] yeah

[01:05:28] i've been getting

[01:05:29] into i've been

[01:05:30] getting into one

[01:05:31] of those comic

[01:05:31] collages a lot

[01:05:32] lately

[01:05:33] you've been doing

[01:05:34] good

[01:05:34] you're finding some

[01:05:36] key moments

[01:05:36] it's like

[01:05:37] that's right

[01:05:38] that was a line

[01:05:38] of dialogue

[01:05:40] oh i had some

[01:05:41] guy um

[01:05:42] message me

[01:05:44] i can't remember

[01:05:45] the guy's name

[01:05:45] but apparently

[01:05:46] he works with

[01:05:46] arthur adams

[01:05:47] and asked if

[01:05:47] he could use

[01:05:49] like one of

[01:05:49] my collages

[01:05:51] for his show

[01:05:52] oh sweet

[01:05:53] sdcc

[01:05:55] you know i don't

[01:05:56] have a problem

[01:05:56] with that sure

[01:06:02] that's cool

[01:06:03] that's yeah

[01:06:04] no i mean

[01:06:05] i'm not gonna

[01:06:05] make it i'm not

[01:06:06] gonna make any

[01:06:06] money at it but

[01:06:07] you know

[01:06:07] right but it

[01:06:09] still to be

[01:06:10] featured you know

[01:06:10] i have seen it

[01:06:11] happen but it's

[01:06:12] always been

[01:06:13] you're like

[01:06:14] someone just

[01:06:15] compliment my

[01:06:16] fan art that's

[01:06:16] awesome

[01:06:19] yeah i personally

[01:06:20] don't have anything

[01:06:20] to uh

[01:06:21] promote or

[01:06:23] whatever i just

[01:06:23] play you know
