AUDIO CLIP INTRO:

"KATEE SACKHOFF on Playing the Voice & Live Action of Bo-Katan in STAR WARS" (Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum Podcast)

[00:00:00] This podcast is a production of Unfiltered Studios. If you would like to know more about joining Unfiltered Studios, please visit our website at unfpod.com for more information. In Clone Wars, you also voice Bo, right? I did. Yeah. So for like... Bo-Katan. Isn't that a city in Florida, Bo-Katan? It actually is. Boca Raton. Boca Raton. And I was gonna just make a politically inappropriate joke, but nevermind.

[00:00:29] I voiced her for about 10 years. What? Not many episodes though. Not many episodes. I only did probably eight episodes. But she made an impression. You know, she was around sort of at the end of Clone Wars. She was in Rebels as well. Like she had... She had an integral part in the... The tone of what it was when it ended. So it did make complete sense for her to find her way into Mandalorian.

[00:00:56] So you were doing this voice before you did the real part. Yeah. Live action at the real part of the live action. I did. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, how many times does somebody... The voice of something and they make them the live action? I can't think of any. So... Are there? I think that I might have been the first actually. Oh. And I don't say this with an ego. No. I would just say that I... It's been... I've been told. I've been told that it's gone the other direction. But never this direction. Are you...

[00:01:25] So... Right before the strike, were you filming? No. No. Oddly enough, we finished... We finished this last season last like April. Like over a year ago. And then the next season, Amanda hasn't started yet. What are you gonna tell me about that? I am so good at not giving away spoilers at this point.

[00:01:50] Cause I am so scared that like someone from Disney will swoop in and like... Is it... Are things that happen... Answer me this. We'll beat around the bush. Yeah, yeah. Are they going to shock the audience? Um, you know, I think that's the thing with this universe is that no matter what you do, you will always shock 50% of the audience. You know what I mean? Um, and so I... I'm sure it will.

[00:02:20] I'm sure it will. I'm sure there will be fun, crazy moments that people water cooler about. You know what I mean? Yeah. Um, yeah, for sure. How many episodes? You can't even tell me that, huh? No. How many episodes did they shoot? Can't even say that. I mean, they've done... I think they've done like eight every season. Okay. So you're not telling me anything then. No. There's probably eight. And so you're in either one or one up to eight of them.

[00:02:48] That, I mean, that would, that would be one guess. Logical. That would be one logical guess. That would be one guess. I bet you're in five episodes. That's my guess. I bet you're in five episodes. I guess we'll see. Are they very like hush hush? Like literally you can't say anything? Yeah. And who tells you this? No one really. Really? They don't say anything? No, it's like the, I mean, we sign NDAs that are like super thick.

[00:03:14] Um, and, but you don't really, you don't really get a conversation from anyone unless you make a mistake and then you get a conversation. I haven't really had one yet. So you haven't made mistakes. No, I mean, I've made a shit ton of mistakes, just not in spoiler world. Is there anyone in this upcoming season that you've already shot? Are we at a high altitude? What are you doing? No, I get like weird, um, migraines. I, yeah, I have TMJ. So I grind my teeth. I do too. I grab my teeth all the time.

[00:03:44] You know, I grab my teeth. I always could hear it, but you can't hear it. Cause it's in my mouth, Jason. But I'm sure. Yeah. Yeah. So I, my ears, when I grind a lot, it's sort of like, I need to itch my ears and I blow, I blow a lot. So you're. Yeah. It's okay. We could cut around it. No, I kind of like it. It's kind of cute. I don't care. I don't care what you do. Go for it. Do you love this world?

[00:04:12] Do you honestly hope this world continues for you, the star Wars world for many, many years to come? Yeah. You know, it's been such a dream come true. I, I, I was a fan of, of the original trilogy when I was a kid. Um, my dad introduced me to them. My dad is a huge star Wars fan. Um, and, and I, I used to joke that, you know, when I moved here, I used to joke that if, if someone calls for me to be in star Wars, I'll beg them, tell them I'll be a rock. I'll do whatever they want.

[00:04:42] And so clone Wars was just such an amazing opportunity for me as like a fan of the, the, the universe to be in this world. Um, and so it's just, she is literally the gift that keeps on giving. I never dreamed that I would be such an integral part of season three. And, and I just, I, I want to keep playing her until there's no storylines left to tell. In the clone wars that she, she doesn't die, right? No. Does she die ever? No. Anywhere in any universe?

[00:05:12] No, she hasn't. She hasn't as if that I know of. She's not dead. There's no speculation. No, no. She's still alive and kicking. Would that just be nightmarish if somebody goes, it's the end of the road. When that time comes, we'd be really emotional when they're like, Hey, you know, this is all we can do with the character for right now. I think so. I think so. But at the same time, like I like 100% thoroughly respect what Dave and, and Dave, uh, at Filoni

[00:05:39] and Jon Favreau have created and what they know of this character that if they said that I would be like, okay, cool. Like that was really awesome. It was really awesome. We missed. We loaded. We edited. We edited. We edited. Sometimes we get so deep into conversation that we have separate segments worthy of their own place in the sun.

[00:06:10] Here is a reshuffled mini episode. So I got to ask you guys, what do you think about a scream queen voice actress and sci fi princess? Katee Sackhoff. She has no sack. She can't get off. Here goes. She's a bag. That's Battlestar Galactica. Right? Yeah. And then she's Bo Katan on the Star Wars cartoons and Mandalorian shows.

[00:06:39] Then she's in Riddick. And then she's really good in those horror sci fi mystery movies. Oculus. Don't. Longmire. She was in Longmire, too. She was great as the deputy Vic who's got a crazy Boston pass. But I mean, she's the only good thing besides Busta Rhymes cursing and Halloween resurrection. Have you guys seen her some of her voice acting? You know, she was bitch pudding on robot chicken. And then that's my wife's favorite character on robot chicken. And just sticks up her middle fingers.

[00:07:09] My sister and I would share some of those gift files with friends. I can't do it like her, but black. Yeah. She was recently in fighter flight, which is another airplane takeover movie, but she's really killing it as boys. The voice of poison Ivy in those crisis in infinite earths animations. And she's playing Lori on those watchmen chapter one and two. But she's also. She often listened to that again. Yeah. She was in that animated night of the animated dead.

[00:07:37] And yeah, she's she's been staying fucking crazy busy. I'm like, she's girl. But yeah, whenever she pops up, whether it says blacksmith on the flash TV show or yes. And don't forget. She was also the main villain in the remake of the bionic woman. Yes. I didn't mind that show. It needed a little more juice to it and it got canceled. So we'll never know what it's really about.

[00:08:02] But I'm like, she was even in this dark comedy with Seth Green called sexy evil genius. And when she was in the Riddick movie, I was like, yeah, she's kind of a mainstream B movie gal. And so when I see her guest appearances on and brief recurring roles on like ER, CSI, Futurama and workaholics, I'm like, yeah, she's kind of a cool geek. Like, yes, she is. And then she was Howard's wet dream in the big bankers.

[00:08:32] But that wasn't even her best scene. Her best scene was with, she was in the backseat with George Takei and they were talking about, in Howard's brain, he was talking about how to win Bernadette. And one of the things that George Takei was, you must take it slow. You must woo her. And Kate in dead pants says, what do you know about women? And he said, I read. I read.

[00:09:01] Oh, my God. I love it. I know she was on MTV's on dress for a bit, but yeah, like I knew who she was by Battlestar. But then like she was just like doing the rounds like she's the only good part of the awful eight season of 24. Like she had that terrorist in disguise roll down. But like when she started doing some other crazy B movies like white white noise, too, and starting with Don the Dragon Wilson in this killer robot movie, the last sentinel is like interesting.

[00:09:31] She's taking some risks. She's just doing all this crazy, violent kind of roles. Well, I haven't really followed the Star Wars stuff. Is she still involved with any of that? Always. Always. She's she's a big, meaty role as a as another just again, Mandalorian gal is trying to get her kingdom back and she's wielding that sword. But I saw her in a cool diehard psycho filler kind of movie called Deadly Obsession.

[00:09:59] But like she she's just a decent like tomboy, tough gal. I don't know why it is just she stands out way better. But I even saw the sci fi ending she was in called 2036 origin unknown. Like she she takes a lot of risks and does. I saw that because I bought it as a two pack DVD thing, and it wasn't that great a movie, though. I didn't think it was great, but I found it interesting. Just now another life. She was very awesome.

[00:10:28] Like she is the main space captain on that space opera show and Netflix canceled it. But it was a fun two year show. And it had this one guy who was on. What's his name? He was on Dr. Who, and he got to play the interactive hologram. It was very red dwarf. It's not red dwarf, but it's called another it's called another life, but it was pretty cool.

[00:10:55] I'll check that out because I had heard about another life, but never seen it. It's done a few different longer guest spots that were pretty cool. But yeah, Oculus, I saw in the theater and that that was like, OK, horror is now interesting again. We're done with all the crappy, you know, slashers for now. She's just so good as the demon possessed mom in that. It was a Mike Flanagan production with Karen Gillan. Yeah. Do you have any thoughts or you? I'm like, where does she rank on the tough gal list?

[00:11:26] I mean, yeah, she is this generation one to Hamilton for sure. They should cast her in a Terminator movie. She would do it. She's a geek. I mean, she fought Cylons and Mandalorians and ghosts. But should she be like a human hero or a Terminator? Like Terminator. Terminator, definitely. She needs to be both. How about she be the gal that doesn't or we could pull a Starbuck. She doesn't realize I have a killing machine.

[00:11:58] Well, that'd be interesting. She, you know, the robot or the android is or the cyborg is based off of her. And then she ends up fighting the cyborg. That's yeah. She's a more mainstream summer glow, I would say. Yeah. If you want to throw in a furball on that, cast Dirk Benedict. Do it.

[00:12:24] And then also recreate one of the greatest, greatest scenes from the A-Team. You see a Cylon where we're walking by him. Dirk Benedict goes like, almost like, I know that guy. And put that, put that very scene in the movie with, with, with the other Starbuck and you got yourself a picture. Well, that was, it was cool though, too, is like, you know, he was talking shit before it'd come out. And they actually made up like they met in person. She actually asked him for advice.

[00:12:54] How would you play this role? So. I've seen pictures of them together. Yeah. It became an internet meme. It was funny, but it was just like, yeah, I mean. It is interesting how it's just like. She's just this overnight success, but she is just always working and challenging herself. And she has wisely just kept so busy to where she has literally like six different kind of fan groups.

[00:13:20] So like, like you said, like if you haven't seen any of these sci fi fantasy horror movies, she's. Or action films, you probably know her for the big bang recurring guest spot as herself. Or you've seen. Yeah. Riddick and Mondo and battle stars. Like she's kind of set for life. Like. But yeah, I know others who aren't sci fi guys and they like her on Longmire because she was the same. She's really twisted. Uh, deputy on there. And.

[00:13:46] Well, she's certainly, uh, been able to branch her career out better within the last five years than say. Well, of course I can't say this research. She might be acting in some stuff that I just don't see, but the lady who plays six. And battle star galactica. Yeah. I mean, she, at first I thought when I saw her in some of those cheesy sci fi channel lifetime movies, I'm like, oh, is she going to go the way of most of these star Trek stargate actors?

[00:14:10] Where she does something campy, but nothing else is like now she she's a geek, but she does have an acting background. And so she's always doing a voiceover or some unusual indie comedy or I mean. And again, I haven't seen fight or flight yet. I heard it was decent. That's where that's basically another airplane, uh, not airplane airport nonstop kind of hostage thriller movie.

[00:14:36] So she has shared some interesting interviews to where she was late to set one day on Longmire and one of her co-stars like roasted her in front of the crew. And that's where she she started manning up like she's like, OK, I am not going to fall into any category. I am not going to be that tough bitch. I am not going to be that selfish narcissist. You know, I'm not going to be the one who's killed by, you know, rumors of being a diva.

[00:15:05] And so when she actually took on a role and actually was asked her opinion, she was actually very surprised. It's like, I thought that was a no, no. You just come in and do the work. But she she's had some reasonable agents and representation. Definitely a solid action star. Yeah. But and I'm only assuming she's probably got a pretty good, uh, following on, uh, like Instagram or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. She's very active.

[00:15:33] She's got her own YouTube talk show where she basically interviews her buddies. But I'll see. Yeah, I'll see some things from her on Facebook, even though I don't follow her. I'll see some things pop up every once in a while. I'll say, you know, you know, give me the choice of whether I want to follow or not. But I don't. Yeah. But she still pops up. Or do you remember, uh, Batman year one? What the movie? Yeah. The cartoon movie. She was the detective in that one. Montoya. Essin. Essin. Oh, okay.

[00:16:03] The one that had the affair with Gordon. Yeah. Oh. Gotta have a sexy. But I, I, I, I can't remember. Can't stand Ryan Murphy. So I was not a fan of Nip Tuck. I thought she was all right in that psycho role, but. Unlike Nip Tuck. That was a good series. Well. To each their own. She was good on CSI, but. Don't know why she didn't get much of that. She was in the Lawrence Fishburne years of that, but. She's done some other interesting guest spots like Boomtown and. She's on this other bizarre sci-fi show.

[00:16:32] It was like hyperspace. I don't think I ever saw that growing up. Yeah. I'm wondering how many of these might be Canadian related for filming. Oh, these are. She's not Canadian. This is American. Dude. Well, like Battlestar Galactic, I think was filmed in Canada. Yeah. And she didn't expect to get picked up for that. She was. But she did mention how. Edward James Olmos. There's a reason he's also a good director. Like they were following his lead and evolving as actors. So they all ended up calling him Uncle Eddie.

[00:17:01] I remember when she was announced for that and people were pissed off about it. Oh, yeah. Thorbuck can't be a girl like. Okay. Not like we're making this political record. It's a different vision. A different story. Yeah, I know. I think she's pretty cool. Yeah. We'll return after these messages. All right, folks. How's that here? We got a 90 minute weekly Shack stop.

[00:18:52] Introducing my dad, Mr. Wayne Friedman. That was good. It would be nice if you could also sing a song. What would the song be? You love Paris in the springtime. I just made up some words to it. I love Rina in the springtime. I love Rina in the fall. That's right. That's good enough. What I do is interview people of interest, share it with my dad, and get my dad's advice. My dad is my hero. Nobody's got my daddy. Oh, boy. Let's go to grandpa. You like to be a little rebel.

[00:19:22] I tried to rein you in. I have a daughter named Rina that acts just like I did. She's got a son that is not only just like me, but it's just like her. I'm your host, Rina Friedman Watts. Invite your friends, subscribe, and I'm excited to take this journey with you. Let's dive in. She was teasing this guy with the sword and she accidentally cut his dick. Oh, my God. I'm dying. And then he started to enjoy it. I started going down the phone sex rabbit hole.

[00:19:48] You've got the wankers and you jerk off in five seconds and then they're done because A, they don't want to spend money and B, they're quick. My stepfather had mania. If I'm yelling at one of my kids, that fear, that rigid fear. Mom even said to me, I hope you have a kid just like you. There are lots of people that are being bought and sold right now for profit. If you think you're going to kill yourself, shut up and kill yourself. If you're not going to kill yourself, then shut up, smarten up, and it's all on you. The bullshit has to end. Wow.

[00:20:15] When I was 11 years old, I was raped and molested over the course of a year. What Jeffrey Epstein had was a sickness inside of him. I am Evan Castrilli Carmichael. I could do anything that I believe that I can. I'm so excited too. Let's go. Next, I'm Better Call Daddy with my mom and my grandpa. Stay tuned.
