Freak Out Week Minisode: Ouija & Ouija: Origin of Evil Double Feature

The week finishes out with a brief revisit of 2014's infamous OUIJA and it's shockingly good yet stand-alone sequel ORIGIN OF EVIL.

Why don't they let Mike Flanagan helm every film from the start instead of asking him to fix sequels to otherwise unimpressive films?

Are the one-word titles getting to be too much nowadays?

And where is the fun in seeing teenagers play this game if we don't get to see much gameplay?

Lock your room and listen in that night!

[00:00:00] What's going on? I just want to go out tonight.

[00:00:02] You sure you don't want to come?

[00:00:03] I'm good.

[00:00:04] Go! Go have fun!

[00:00:17] You ever feel like even after someone you love has died, there's still a way you can talk to them?

[00:00:22] You want to talk to Debbie?

[00:00:24] Yeah. This is where Debbie died.

[00:00:31] I don't think this is a good idea.

[00:00:36] As friends we've gathered, hearts are true, spirits near we call to you.

[00:00:43] If you can hear us, Debbie, I miss you.

[00:00:50] Calm down. It's an old house.

[00:00:52] This is a joke.

[00:00:55] Come on, you guys. Who's doing that?

[00:00:57] Sarah, cut it out!

[00:00:59] I'm not pushing it.

[00:01:01] Just spell the hi-friend.

[00:01:03] Hey, this is freaking me out. I'm done with this.

[00:01:08] I found something. I found something.

[00:01:10] I wanted to get this on camera.

[00:01:11] I found something in my house.

[00:01:13] Weird things started happening as soon as I found the board.

[00:01:16] Debbie found the board in her house.

[00:01:18] She woke something up.

[00:01:22] Is somebody there?

[00:01:24] This thing is haunting us.

[00:01:26] Hello?

[00:01:28] It's coming through all of us.

[00:01:30] So who's next?

[00:01:32] How do we stop this?

[00:01:33] You have to break the connection or it will keep coming for you.

[00:01:40] We have to play the game again.

[00:01:42] One last time.

[00:01:45] As friends we've gathered, hearts are true, spirits near we call to you.

[00:01:52] Can you show us a sign?

[00:02:08] It's not even real, okay?

[00:02:11] It's just a bit.

[00:02:30] It's a chapter review show.

[00:02:33] It's a chapter review show.

[00:02:41] It's a chapter review show.

[00:02:44] It's a chapter review show.

[00:02:48] Hello all, hello all.

[00:03:06] We have our to-occuline.

[00:03:07] Some other B movie.

[00:03:10] Sci-fi horror films.

[00:03:11] We decided to go after the supernatural,

[00:03:14] Blumhouse produced.

[00:03:16] And Dune films.

[00:03:18] Platinum Dunes.

[00:03:19] That's Michael Bay's company.

[00:03:21] We decided to make sense of the infamous Ouija

[00:03:24] and its popular sequel Ouija,

[00:03:27] Origin of Evil.

[00:03:29] So long story short.

[00:03:31] The first one made a lot of money,

[00:03:33] but so many people complained about the plot.

[00:03:36] The second one was again,

[00:03:39] a sequel no one asked for,

[00:03:40] but didn't require any knowledge of the previous thing.

[00:03:43] Just knowledge of the folklore.

[00:03:47] And hey, yeah.

[00:03:48] People use a Ouija board and they talk to the dead

[00:03:51] in absolute natural spirits.

[00:03:52] But as a mercenary job, it rose above the challenge.

[00:03:56] It was by Indie horror filmmaker Mike Flanigan,

[00:04:00] who many know from other films such as,

[00:04:03] again, Netflix, Haunting of Hill House,

[00:04:06] as well as other movies.

[00:04:09] You know, just...

[00:04:11] So much just to applaud him for.

[00:04:15] Like For I Wake, Ouija, Hush,

[00:04:20] Oculus, Absentia,

[00:04:22] Doctor Sleep.

[00:04:24] And with Ouija 2, you know, that is the highlight.

[00:04:28] Ouija 1 was one of those.

[00:04:29] It was mediocre.

[00:04:30] I didn't hate it as much as everybody else,

[00:04:33] but I was still like, yeah, it's pretty forgettable.

[00:04:38] And, you know, it got 5%.

[00:04:39] I was like, shit.

[00:04:42] You know, it's not good, but it's not great.

[00:04:48] Worthy of just saying it's atrocious,

[00:04:51] but it was that mediocre kind of movie

[00:04:54] that just got oversaturated in the 2000s

[00:04:57] and somehow passed over into the 2010s.

[00:04:59] But yeah, you know, Ouija or Geneva will totally recommend.

[00:05:04] Yeah.

[00:05:11] It's your job to stand at the curtains

[00:05:13] and not attack the clients.

[00:05:15] Can you, young lady?

[00:05:17] What's a scam?

[00:05:20] You are so weird.

[00:05:23] Does she have a lot of problems?

[00:05:25] There's nothing too concerning.

[00:05:27] What's this?

[00:05:28] New prop for work.

[00:05:31] Spirit, can you hear me?

[00:05:35] Yes we can.

[00:05:39] And we can see you.

[00:05:40] Who are you talking to, Doris?

[00:05:44] Daddy, are you there?

[00:05:49] Who are you?

[00:05:55] Did you see her writing this?

[00:05:58] No.

[00:05:59] Because it's Polish.

[00:06:02] Doris, who did this?

[00:06:04] I'll show you.

[00:06:06] Are you here?

[00:06:11] Something is happening that we can't understand.

[00:06:15] I'm concerned about your girl.

[00:06:17] The spirit world is dangerous.

[00:06:24] What are you doing? I'm not doing it!

[00:06:26] Stop it!

[00:06:28] Do you know what it feels like to be strangled to death?

[00:06:40] Something is wrong with Doris!

[00:06:42] She's experiencing something amazing!

[00:06:46] I believe she is channeling powers.

[00:06:49] We do not understand.

[00:06:52] Doris?

[00:07:08] Yes.

[00:07:12] I had Elizabeth Reiser and Henry Thomas in powerful roles,

[00:07:17] as well as John Raffaeritz, Kate Siegel and Doug Jones.

[00:07:21] These movies get the job done,

[00:07:23] definitely some of the better of the Universal Studios co-productions

[00:07:28] with Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes.

[00:07:31] I think just mainly because they are playing to earlier eras.

[00:07:42] You could see a movie like this being made in the timeline

[00:07:45] between the 60s to the 80s, and I applaud them for that.

[00:07:52] The second one was just a surprise hit.

[00:07:54] It was kind of like some of those other movies

[00:07:58] where they did one with white noise,

[00:08:02] and they did just hunting in Connecticut.

[00:08:09] Part two was really better than part one, which was awful.

[00:08:15] People can cut the mustard when they really want to,

[00:08:18] and I applaud them when they do it.

[00:08:21] There's no exception here.

[00:08:25] This is back when people wanted to just make effective movies.

[00:08:32] Without pissing anybody off or someone getting hurt,

[00:08:36] or just people not being proud of their work.

[00:08:39] Bravo guys and happy spookiness everybody.

[00:09:18] Best Florida has to offer.
