Emmanuelle Movies Retrospect (with JJ & Tom!)

JJ & Tom drop by once again to discuss why drive-in, Skinemax era and new European knock-offs of one B-movie formula keep occuring in all parts of the world.

Sometimes, these films have Kung Fu, other times they got spies, zombies & are set in outer space but they ALWAYS have Emmanuelle in them!

Aside from this NSFW topic, be entertained by us discussing how many bizarre, whacky yet rather original cheesy movie genres and formulas are made today versus back then.

[00:00:51] It's a Jacked Up Review Show

[00:01:11] We've been overdue for our sarcastic, trashy B-movie purge.

[00:01:22] We did our research.

[00:01:24] Tonight would make Gilbert Godfreed proud to what we're going to talk about because this

[00:01:30] is like two sets of movies, two film series that basically only have one thing in common

[00:01:41] is separated by one letter.

[00:01:48] That's a good way to put it.

[00:01:50] No, it's the truth.

[00:01:54] If you may do the honors camp.

[00:01:57] Yes, we are talking, we are getting very kinky, very naughty.

[00:02:01] We can't call this a bad franchise because, well, according to Roger Ebert, this is art.

[00:02:08] We're talking about Emmanuelle.

[00:02:10] This is a guy who gave laser blast two and a half stars.

[00:02:13] Oh, that was Leonard Moulton.

[00:02:15] Yeah, that was Leonard Moulton.

[00:02:17] Roger Ebert's the guy who wrote Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

[00:02:21] He loves himself a kinky movie.

[00:02:23] He will not hold something.

[00:02:24] So this has been produced by Yves Rosette, Ronaud, Elaine Saretsky, Roger Corman, and

[00:02:34] Menham Golem.

[00:02:36] Yeah, Glovis Cannon Films.

[00:02:40] Yep.

[00:02:41] This character has been portrayed by many people, including Jean-Rollin, Iris Lataine,

[00:02:48] Francesc Leroy, Bruna Zicoine, Laura Jimser.

[00:02:53] Well, that's these are the directors I fucked up.

[00:02:56] Yeah.

[00:02:58] Monica Gabriel, Natalie Johar, Laura Jimser, Mia Yen.

[00:03:04] Laura Gismar is like going to be in this predominantly because of her involvement in the series.

[00:03:11] And then you got Sylvia Christel and her involvement in the series.

[00:03:15] Steve is definitely the name I recognize the most.

[00:03:17] Yeah.

[00:03:18] It's anyhow, for the most part they're just hard to ours.

[00:03:20] But every once in a while on certain versions they would sneak in a unsimulated blowjob.

[00:03:25] Well, no, there's one.

[00:03:27] Well, let's get into the history of this because I just think it's like one of the strangest

[00:03:34] parallel.

[00:03:34] Funniest.

[00:03:35] Universes, you know.

[00:03:37] Most low brow or the low brow.

[00:03:40] Low brow but high brow, you know.

[00:03:42] I mean, because like that this is what I love about crazy B movies, not only when the tone is bonkers,

[00:03:50] or it's in so much pop culture just people will just throw it out.

[00:03:55] But as just a wacky just bang but.

[00:03:59] But like you're saying earlier, like there's some big name talent even supporting actors

[00:04:04] attached to this and they're giving it all and you're like so I thought no one cared

[00:04:08] about this but they're making a conceded effort to make a legit movie.

[00:04:12] So yeah, how do I judge this?

[00:04:15] Um, the thing I remember is seeing the first the Sylvia Christelle ones I do.

[00:04:20] I remember very, very clearly.

[00:04:23] Yes, because I'm like 15, 16 years old and you guys remember Cinemax would

[00:04:29] show these movies, you know, extreme sexual content.

[00:04:34] They wouldn't just say.

[00:04:35] Yeah.

[00:04:35] Yeah, they will be like the following movie contains extreme sexual content.

[00:04:40] Look, just say you're going to see tits bush and ass.

[00:04:41] That's all you're going to say.

[00:04:42] Just say it don't sound like just.

[00:04:44] Yeah, it's only, you know, and he turned on it was like this, like, you know,

[00:04:49] you know, there's like woman, woman singing and then, you know, and then you

[00:04:53] hear those like classical stories Sylvia Christelle in Emanuel Emanuel

[00:04:59] is a woman a man you goodbye a manual and it was like.

[00:05:05] All right.

[00:05:06] The first movie is like a big smash.

[00:05:11] I mean, yeah, it made a lot of movie and you have to think it's

[00:05:17] during the time of deep throat behind the green door.

[00:05:21] That's a good point.

[00:05:24] Paris is just around the corner.

[00:05:25] I'm surprised Marilyn Chambers wasn't involved.

[00:05:29] Oh, God.

[00:05:31] Marilyn Chambers did behind the green door than she does rabid.

[00:05:35] Yeah, David Cronen freaking Berg, which, oh my God, which blows my mind.

[00:05:41] But.

[00:05:42] But that's the only thing I got blown.

[00:05:46] Oh, it's like Sylvia Christelle had done a movie before he and called

[00:05:52] Julia, which I saw, which was a soft core.

[00:05:59] Horn, soft core porn flick about two teenagers and falling in love.

[00:06:04] One of the kids, you know, the kid comes home, you know, he's staying

[00:06:07] with his family who were very eccentric.

[00:06:10] You know, he meets his old girlfriend.

[00:06:15] He meets his old friend, you know, they get stoned on a boat.

[00:06:17] The friend dies while you know, and they but Sylvia Christelle is

[00:06:22] like this, like really like, you know, nymph kind of character.

[00:06:26] Right.

[00:06:28] She's really cute.

[00:06:30] She was, you know, she was from Holland.

[00:06:32] She was very, you know, blue eyes, you know, you know, she kind of looked

[00:06:36] you know, she kind of looked she looked like a she was a model, you know,

[00:06:40] she had like that really good, you know, look about her, you know,

[00:06:44] she was elderly gal next door kind of look kind of.

[00:06:48] No, no, no, no.

[00:06:49] I wouldn't say elderly.

[00:06:50] Well, you know, she had kind of like that mysterious quality about her.

[00:06:56] And everyone is serious, but she always made me think of a soccer mom.

[00:07:00] Yeah, when she got older.

[00:07:02] Yeah, but this is like when she's like 20 something years old.

[00:07:07] And she makes this movie in manual, which is like, you know, it's kind

[00:07:16] of like the height of the sexual revolution.

[00:07:19] So, you know, it's like it's a story, you know, and she's trying, you know,

[00:07:27] she's she's she's scaring her husband taking so long and all in and the whole

[00:07:31] all the movies are basically, you know, it's just I find it weird how

[00:07:35] the three movies came out like almost back to back to back, you know,

[00:07:40] back to back to back to forward to back to forward.

[00:07:44] No, back in.

[00:07:48] So I just like fucking.

[00:07:49] Back to the left.

[00:07:51] Back to the left.

[00:07:54] Okay.

[00:07:54] It's like it's like you're watching this and you're like, okay.

[00:07:59] I get it.

[00:08:00] It's her journey through becoming this woman who is sexually timid,

[00:08:06] I think.

[00:08:07] And then becomes more outward as time goes on as the three movies go

[00:08:13] on.

[00:08:14] Yes.

[00:08:15] And when I say outward, I mean outward.

[00:08:19] You know,

[00:08:20] it's all hanging out.

[00:08:22] Yes.

[00:08:23] But it's like all the movies are like, you know, she goes to like Bangkok.

[00:08:26] She goes to here.

[00:08:27] She goes to there.

[00:08:29] I mean, she has one scene where she's like, you know,

[00:08:31] she talks to this girl about getting gang raped by a bunch of

[00:08:34] soccer players, you know,

[00:08:35] yeah, that should not at all be.

[00:08:38] You know,

[00:08:39] there was one scene where she's on a plane and she seduces a guy and

[00:08:43] they go in the back and they, you know,

[00:08:45] they get busy with one another.

[00:08:48] You know, it's kind of like I'm trying to put in perspective.

[00:08:53] It's kind of like every guy who watched it was going, okay,

[00:08:57] I wonder if my wife thinks of this and every woman who watched

[00:09:00] it was going,

[00:09:01] if my wife thinks of that,

[00:09:03] if my husband thinks of this, he's a fucking pervert.

[00:09:05] You know,

[00:09:06] Oh, I bet.

[00:09:08] Oh yeah. Yeah.

[00:09:09] I mean, it was,

[00:09:10] it would play in like mainstream theaters.

[00:09:13] You know,

[00:09:14] different times guys.

[00:09:15] You know,

[00:09:16] you know, you know, who wants, you know, you know, Godfather to,

[00:09:19] you know, there's a manual, you know,

[00:09:21] at some point it was like making it was making more money than,

[00:09:24] you know,

[00:09:26] I forgot when movie was out at the time,

[00:09:28] but it really, you know, it really put that then they did

[00:09:31] a manual too.

[00:09:32] If you watch the BV for manual too,

[00:09:36] I might have helped with it.

[00:09:38] Oh God, it's like her voice is dubbed.

[00:09:42] Hi, I'm a manual.

[00:09:45] You may remember me from my last movie.

[00:09:47] Yeah. Who doesn't remember you?

[00:09:49] You know,

[00:09:49] yeah, we don't go to these movies for the dialogue.

[00:09:52] That is for sure.

[00:09:53] You know,

[00:09:53] the dialogue is definitely a head scratcher in a lot of these

[00:09:56] movies where you're like,

[00:09:57] I'm not sure how to feel right now.

[00:09:59] Hi, I'm Chris.

[00:10:00] I fly a plane.

[00:10:01] That's great.

[00:10:02] You should come back to my dungeon. Yeah.

[00:10:05] That's great.

[00:10:06] Let's, you know, take her up in the plane.

[00:10:08] She, you know, she takes her shirt off and then,

[00:10:09] you know,

[00:10:10] she gives them a blow job while they're flying.

[00:10:12] You know, I mean, that's, you know,

[00:10:15] it's very random places sometimes in public to where you're

[00:10:18] like, what world is this even set in?

[00:10:20] Is this apocalyptic?

[00:10:21] What's going on here?

[00:10:22] What world is this in?

[00:10:24] I don't know.

[00:10:25] As I watch it when I'm older,

[00:10:27] I'm like, Jesus God,

[00:10:28] my mind was like so screwed up,

[00:10:30] you know, your teenager,

[00:10:33] and you see this, you're like,

[00:10:35] you know, you got the hormones,

[00:10:37] you know, like, you know, turn the volume down

[00:10:39] and change the channel.

[00:10:41] Someone comes in.

[00:10:43] Oh yeah, that was the best changing the channel.

[00:10:45] What are you watching?

[00:10:46] Sports dad, I'm watching sports, you know,

[00:10:48] you're not into sports.

[00:10:50] Watching sports, I'm watching rugby, rugby.

[00:10:52] You're not a rugby fan, Jay.

[00:10:54] I don't know.

[00:10:54] I just want to get into it.

[00:10:55] That's all, you know,

[00:10:56] the room puts it back on.

[00:10:58] Oh, shit. I missed that part.

[00:11:00] I miss the best part. God damn it.

[00:11:02] Now it's 20 minutes of exposition.

[00:11:04] I missed the part with a girl master baits in front of

[00:11:07] Emmanuel to Paul Newman's picture.

[00:11:10] And I'm like, you know,

[00:11:13] my introduction to an official portrayer,

[00:11:17] Lord Jim sir,

[00:11:18] the Indonesian Dutch actress was seeing her and other unusual,

[00:11:22] like, you know, not just the ator films,

[00:11:24] you know, the Conan, the barbarian knockouts that.

[00:11:27] Yeah, but also the bloody Bushido blade,

[00:11:30] which is a fun East meets West epic with.

[00:11:34] Richard Boone and Sonny Chiba,

[00:11:36] but you know, she's but as naked in that one,

[00:11:38] but it was also it was always funny how she was like

[00:11:41] one of the few to come out and say, yeah, no, I.

[00:11:44] Any movie that has my character, you know,

[00:11:47] doing unsimulate stuff that's not me.

[00:11:48] You know, yeah, she got, she told Joe DiMotto.

[00:11:52] Who? Yeah, the real Asian guy. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:11:56] She told Joe DiMotto, like he would want to do hardcore stuff with those movies.

[00:12:03] And those movies are different from the Celia Christo ones because

[00:12:05] those are more Sylvia has a plot and then just basically trying to make a

[00:12:11] cycle filler or romantic drama.

[00:12:13] And it's yeah, his are like, well,

[00:12:16] and yeah, his are totally like half the time,

[00:12:19] especially with some of the other stuff he did with her.

[00:12:21] It was like it was like a part zombie movies mixed in with a hardcore,

[00:12:26] you know, free zone. Yeah.

[00:12:28] There was a manual. Yeah.

[00:12:31] There's black Emmanuel Emmanuel to a manual goes to America,

[00:12:36] which has the infamous horse scene in it.

[00:12:39] Oh God.

[00:12:40] For those of you at home playing a woman has gives hand relief

[00:12:44] to a horse while people watch someone wanted to see that, I guess.

[00:12:49] Also notice the Catherine the Great. Yeah, remember?

[00:12:53] Did I say that?

[00:12:55] Did I mean go for it, man? I mean, she's dead.

[00:12:58] I don't think she can. Yeah.

[00:13:00] Has any. We don't care what the royals think.

[00:13:05] And I mean, there's a reason I have a viewer discretion advised in my

[00:13:08] theme song. I know we're going to get into this.

[00:13:10] Yeah. But it's like, it's like, you know,

[00:13:12] then there's like one where she says, you know, Emmanuel in Bangkok.

[00:13:16] Emmanuel. And but, you know, the thing was, was that they were more,

[00:13:20] you know, Emmanuel goes to prison, you know,

[00:13:21] West in the desert, which is like an excuse for her to like,

[00:13:26] like blow up a Turkish camp or something with some spies.

[00:13:29] Yeah. They are almost.

[00:13:32] And even when you look at stuff like this in perspective and you realize

[00:13:35] how borderline risque is something like a James Bond thing is half

[00:13:39] the time you can kind of see why some.

[00:13:41] And then when you even get to the 90s and you see people advertising

[00:13:46] kids toys for R rated movies, it does kind of just make you realize

[00:13:50] marketing was just out the door. People just were like, Hey,

[00:13:54] as long as it gets done in time, I really don't care.

[00:13:57] Laura Gessner was in like, I remember she was in the Bushido

[00:14:00] blade. She made a move with Michael Landon.

[00:14:03] I bet. Yeah, she did. She made a movie with Michael Landon.

[00:14:07] That was an NBC movie of the week.

[00:14:08] But she had to go under the name Moria Chen because of the fact

[00:14:13] forever. I see it now. OK, love. Yeah.

[00:14:17] And they said they said to her, look, you know, we know who you are,

[00:14:22] but we don't want your name on there because people are going to be like,

[00:14:25] Hey, she's expecting something.

[00:14:27] Yeah. And she did a good job in that.

[00:14:30] She did the bloody Bushido blade, which I thought was a good movie.

[00:14:33] Now it's like second nature. People will do that.

[00:14:35] I mean, there's a reason Fredo and range and when Orsky do that too,

[00:14:39] with their directing credits, they would do stupid monster movies

[00:14:43] for Roger Corbin and Syfy Channel and then do all those tinny flags

[00:14:46] that are basically sex comedies.

[00:14:49] When you get to the nineties and you have Roger Corbin's,

[00:14:53] you know, New Horizons producing it and Crystal Allen's in it.

[00:14:56] It's basically almost all the sets look like low budget.

[00:15:00] Oh, entertainment or Star Trek type stuff.

[00:15:02] But with her around just hypnotizing people because she she's like

[00:15:07] still from species, but she's not killing you to have sex.

[00:15:10] She's just fucking going around.

[00:15:12] She's dying to have sex instead of killing to have sex.

[00:15:15] Right.

[00:15:17] But it's like, but it's like I looked at it this way.

[00:15:21] Those those ones where they did like, you know, a manual in space.

[00:15:25] Oh yeah.

[00:15:25] I just keep thinking the worst thing ever.

[00:15:29] Like, you know, you hear like that.

[00:15:32] Oh, yes. Oh, yes.

[00:15:37] Classic orchestras.

[00:15:39] Oh God, I'm going to come home.

[00:15:42] And the thing about me was when they brought silver crystal back.

[00:15:46] Yes.

[00:15:47] And she's like a different character or something.

[00:15:49] No, she's a manual.

[00:15:51] But she's the same character.

[00:15:52] Okay.

[00:15:52] I couldn't remember if she because she doesn't behave.

[00:15:55] She's been out of it so long.

[00:15:57] She doesn't seem to be in the same headspace.

[00:15:59] Well, there's a story in that that you've got to hear because.

[00:16:02] Sure.

[00:16:03] With her.

[00:16:04] With her career.

[00:16:07] A manual made her a star.

[00:16:09] Yeah.

[00:16:10] But she was hanging with Ian McShane.

[00:16:14] Yeah.

[00:16:15] Thank God.

[00:16:16] She was Ian McShane.

[00:16:18] And back there.

[00:16:20] The factor has just jumped a million percent.

[00:16:22] I'm sure he's got some stories.

[00:16:24] Oh, let me tell you.

[00:16:25] Well, invited her to Dunwood.

[00:16:27] She wouldn't come here.

[00:16:29] According to what I've, what I've read is that.

[00:16:32] She was pregnant with his child and she lost the child and she really got into

[00:16:36] coke.

[00:16:37] Oh yeah.

[00:16:39] It was like, you know, and Ian McShane was not exactly the best guy to be

[00:16:43] around at that time, you know, he was high drugs too, I think, right?

[00:16:46] Oh yeah.

[00:16:47] Yeah.

[00:16:47] And then she winds up going to Hollywood.

[00:16:51] From this and she stars in.

[00:16:53] If I think it correctly, she does the fifth musketeer.

[00:16:58] If anybody's ever seen that, it's a really.

[00:17:00] The fifth musketeer.

[00:17:02] The fifth musketeer. Yeah.

[00:17:04] It was.

[00:17:06] It was kind of loose.

[00:17:07] Yeah.

[00:17:08] The fifth musketeer.

[00:17:10] Bo bridges.

[00:17:11] First little on your.

[00:17:12] Oh my God.

[00:17:13] Bridges, Bo bridges.

[00:17:14] Allison Harrison.

[00:17:16] Holy shit.

[00:17:16] Rex Harrison.

[00:17:18] Cornell Wilds in it.

[00:17:19] You know,

[00:17:21] she does.

[00:17:23] Airport, the Concord.

[00:17:26] Yeah.

[00:17:27] Airport 79.

[00:17:28] Airport 79 on the Concord. Yeah.

[00:17:29] She's the stewardess in that.

[00:17:31] Pretty much all these guys have pretty, they must have all had the same agent

[00:17:34] because Monica Gabriel is a one timer and you know, from, you know,

[00:17:38] bachelor party, desktop or two.

[00:17:40] She's an airplane.

[00:17:42] With a spoon.

[00:17:44] Yeah.

[00:17:46] And then she then, then she does.

[00:17:50] Private. What was it? Private lessons.

[00:17:53] Yeah.

[00:17:54] That's where she started getting into bizarre drama.

[00:17:58] Which is a cute little, a cute little movie about.

[00:18:02] This, this teenage root falls in love with his maid.

[00:18:05] Yeah.

[00:18:06] And for teacher baby.

[00:18:08] Yeah.

[00:18:09] And then she does another one called private school.

[00:18:11] I remember that.

[00:18:13] Then she did.

[00:18:14] What was it?

[00:18:15] You know,

[00:18:16] Mada Hari, which was for Canon.

[00:18:21] You know,

[00:18:22] And by then it's like, you know, it's kind of like, you know,

[00:18:28] The looks are starting to fade a little bit, you know,

[00:18:30] because she's getting older.

[00:18:33] And unfortunately she died of lung cancer from what I understood

[00:18:35] from what I remember.

[00:18:37] That's right.

[00:18:39] But they died.

[00:18:40] I didn't know this because that.

[00:18:42] Yeah.

[00:18:43] And, you know, she was, I think she, she might've had a kid.

[00:18:47] I don't remember.

[00:18:49] You know,

[00:18:49] I remember it's her like showing up in movies, you know,

[00:18:52] And it was kind of like,

[00:18:56] You know, it's kind of like, oh, oh, okay.

[00:19:00] All right.

[00:19:01] I understand that.

[00:19:02] Here's where we are now.

[00:19:04] Yeah. It's like,

[00:19:06] I was like, Oh, you need somebody to fill in the seat. Okay.

[00:19:09] You know, I'm like, okay.

[00:19:12] When she did the Emmanuel series with George Laysenby,

[00:19:16] you can, you're kind of watching it.

[00:19:18] You're like, I saw this woman here glory days and you're like,

[00:19:24] Oh, boy, you know,

[00:19:26] What the fuck happened here?

[00:19:28] You know,

[00:19:28] You don't want to say anything bad, but you're like,

[00:19:31] you're like, you know, just, just, you know,

[00:19:33] I already had it rough and no pun, just having, you know,

[00:19:37] I was like, I don't know what to do.

[00:19:38] Cause these were the sets where there was no closed film sets.

[00:19:42] Now we got ever since all the scandals people have had on

[00:19:47] just other shows and everything it's now like everyone's

[00:19:50] required to have an intimacy coordinator.

[00:19:52] Just people aren't going to go for the ringer anymore and be

[00:19:55] embarrassed.

[00:19:56] Yeah.

[00:19:59] And you know,

[00:20:03] I was just kind of thinking about it.

[00:20:04] I was like, I was thinking about it.

[00:20:07] I was like, you know,

[00:20:08] She kind of like faded into,

[00:20:13] Into like what I like to say the obscurity of what is and what

[00:20:20] isn't, you know, it's kind of like you're sitting there going.

[00:20:24] You're kind of like going, oh, whatever happened to her.

[00:20:26] Oh, there she is.

[00:20:26] She's on a chat show.

[00:20:27] Oh, there she is.

[00:20:28] She's on a TV show.

[00:20:30] Oh, there she, you know,

[00:20:33] Laura Gessner on the other hand.

[00:20:36] She did those run of movies.

[00:20:40] And it's kind of like she was, she said,

[00:20:42] she said,

[00:20:43] she said at one point just became one nonstop movie.

[00:20:47] You know, the money was good, but she said it was just like one,

[00:20:50] one continuous film.

[00:20:52] You know, she would do it.

[00:20:54] She'd get the paycheck and then she, you know, oh, you could.

[00:20:56] Okay, I'll come back or I'll do it.

[00:20:58] You know,

[00:20:58] Oh, cause that just they would have like.

[00:21:01] Second, third and fourth units and half the outtakes

[00:21:03] became the movies just so they can get those double features

[00:21:07] out.

[00:21:08] But I think the thing was with her was that when they did the

[00:21:11] cannibal,

[00:21:12] the cannibal one, that became kind of like, you know, okay,

[00:21:15] they weren't,

[00:21:16] trying to cash in on the cannibal holocaust type trash.

[00:21:20] That is very hard to watch.

[00:21:23] She did a movie called love camp.

[00:21:25] I remember where she played kind of like a Jonestown cultish

[00:21:28] figure.

[00:21:29] And, you know, it's like,

[00:21:32] you're watching it and she's like having sex, but she was

[00:21:34] like, but you could tell it like they're just like, you know,

[00:21:36] Christ, here we go.

[00:21:38] You know,

[00:21:40] Jonestown happened to get called up.

[00:21:42] We got an idea for a movie, you know,

[00:21:45] and she was just tired.

[00:21:47] She was tired of it, you know,

[00:21:49] and she said,

[00:21:49] I'm done.

[00:21:50] And she became a set costume designer.

[00:21:53] She did the costumes for troll too.

[00:21:56] What?

[00:21:57] Yeah.

[00:22:01] Damn.

[00:22:03] You know,

[00:22:04] Oh,

[00:22:06] it's not a good idea.

[00:22:06] I mean, it's not uncommon for some of these erotic people also be

[00:22:09] like casting directors and makeup artists,

[00:22:11] but that's something to now then go.

[00:22:16] Just design.

[00:22:18] Be an art director in a way.

[00:22:20] And something.

[00:22:22] Something like being a costume director on a,

[00:22:24] on a porno would be pretty easy.

[00:22:27] Well, it's not like Steven Soderbergh, you know,

[00:22:31] Oh God.

[00:22:32] Yeah.

[00:22:33] You're not doing God with the wind.

[00:22:34] You're going down with the clothes.

[00:22:36] Yeah, you're not going down with the wind.

[00:22:38] You're going down on the wind, you know,

[00:22:43] as long as you go down and you don't break when then just won't

[00:22:47] be too crude.

[00:22:49] But yeah, there's a, but don't,

[00:22:52] but don't forget there are people who might be into that.

[00:22:54] Yeah.

[00:22:55] We're not kick shaming here.

[00:22:57] Not kick shaming, but I can't say I'm supporting.

[00:23:02] But all we can say is it's like, you know,

[00:23:04] you watch something like this stuff and you're like,

[00:23:06] it's kind of a time capsule with the Sylvia Christel stuff.

[00:23:10] Cause it was like, you know, it's these expensive film sets

[00:23:13] and these, you know, nice, you know, these nice,

[00:23:16] these nice locations and then you watch the ones in Laura

[00:23:20] Gesmer. It's like, okay, we're just going to grind this

[00:23:23] movie out.

[00:23:24] Get it out. You know, we'll have some, we'll have some old time

[00:23:27] movie stars in it.

[00:23:28] You know, guys who did, you know, B shots and stuff like that,

[00:23:30] but you know, you'll know who they are.

[00:23:32] And the thing with Laura Gesmer was she knew how to act.

[00:23:35] Yeah.

[00:23:35] She had done all the training and been doing modeling and it

[00:23:38] just went to the next big thing.

[00:23:42] And that's where it's kind of a shame because you realize

[00:23:45] half the time these people were not paid,

[00:23:47] even what they were worth acting or not.

[00:23:50] It's just like, no, you know,

[00:23:51] if any of us were to do something like that,

[00:23:54] you know, it's like, no, I better be paid for the amount of,

[00:23:57] you know, footage you shooted me in the buff.

[00:24:00] You know, I tried modeling during college and I saw how

[00:24:05] they were looking for buff guys.

[00:24:06] You didn't have muscles.

[00:24:07] They weren't interested.

[00:24:08] And you still see some of that same stuff for women where

[00:24:11] they want you as busty as can be.

[00:24:14] And it's like, well, why not just natural beauty?

[00:24:17] Well, you remember back in the nineties or is that whole,

[00:24:20] you know, look like you're a fucking alien from fucking,

[00:24:26] you know, some other planet.

[00:24:28] Looks like someone who's not real.

[00:24:31] You look like you look like you're having a sandwich, you know?

[00:24:35] And then also like, you know, that's the thing with

[00:24:40] Sylvia Christel.

[00:24:41] She was very thin, very attractive.

[00:24:44] And the thing with Laura Gesmer was she was more

[00:24:47] mysterious.

[00:24:48] She was, you know, she had that, you know, Indonesian look

[00:24:52] about her.

[00:24:53] Yeah.

[00:24:54] And she was very like, you know, very mysterious.

[00:24:57] You know, she was kind of, it kind of reminded me of like,

[00:25:01] uh, shit.

[00:25:03] Some sub-operative.

[00:25:05] No, no, no.

[00:25:06] Some famous actress like,

[00:25:08] fucking 40s, 50s.

[00:25:10] Yeah, probably in the 40s or the 50s.

[00:25:12] Like like Anna Wang or something like that.

[00:25:14] You know, someone who was very, you know, very attractive,

[00:25:18] very good looking.

[00:25:19] Like, uh, who is it?

[00:25:21] Shit.

[00:25:22] Um, she had noir actress or a screen.

[00:25:25] No, no, the girl who's in the world is Susie Wong.

[00:25:28] Yeah, like Francis McGuinn, who was in a Nancy

[00:25:31] Diamondhead, you know, Nancy Kwan.

[00:25:34] Nancy Kwan.

[00:25:34] Yeah, she kind of reminded me of Nancy Kwan a little bit.

[00:25:37] She does look kind of have a similar look.

[00:25:39] We'll return after these messages.

[00:26:01] Check them out.

[00:26:36] Do you ever find yourself thinking about who would win in a fight between Goku and Superman?

[00:26:41] Hi, I'm James Gavzian on the Who Would Win Show.

[00:26:43] Me and my co-host Ray ignore anything important happening in the outside world

[00:26:47] and debate fictional battles between characters from comics, movies and video games.

[00:26:51] We got a new show every week and almost always Am I the Winner?

[00:26:55] Not true, Ray.

[00:26:56] In the past we've discussed such matches as Captain America vs Darth Vader,

[00:27:01] Solid Snake vs the Iron Giant,

[00:27:03] Classic Matchups like Robocop vs Terminator

[00:27:06] and even the Muppets vs Sesame Street.

[00:27:09] That one was crazy.

[00:27:11] So if you're a fan of geek culture and love a spirited debate,

[00:27:13] check out the Who Would Win Show wherever you get your podcasts

[00:27:16] or check us out at whowadwindshow.com.

[00:27:22] The thing is that there wasn't really much in the way of like

[00:27:25] foreign actresses doing these mainstream brinehouse roles.

[00:27:29] Oh yeah, and then once you get to the 80s

[00:27:31] and then they made that part of the marketing where it's like

[00:27:33] two kind of people are going to be making out on screen years like

[00:27:36] what's going on here.

[00:27:39] You know, and I think the one thing that gets me the most is

[00:27:42] I've watched, you know, the Emanuel series and I've got to say,

[00:27:47] you know, the scripts were good.

[00:27:51] There's essentially B movies just with extra kink.

[00:27:56] Extra kink in them and you know, there were some ones where there was

[00:28:00] hardcore shots that were never meant to be put in but they were put in.

[00:28:06] The sooner the better.

[00:28:09] All you say it's like listening to two, it's like listening.

[00:28:12] One is listening to an old dirty blues record and the other classical symphony.

[00:28:18] Yes, B side.

[00:28:20] Yeah, it's like one, one's like getting like Hamdog,

[00:28:23] Taylor, the other one's getting like, you know, Luciano Pavarotti, you know.

[00:28:26] Oh my God. Damn. That's a hell of a metaphor.

[00:28:32] And I think the one thing that gets me the most is the way the Emanuel series

[00:28:37] was those three movies were shot. It was like, you know, it was kind of like,

[00:28:40] you know, lilting beautiful.

[00:28:42] The other one is like gritty, you know, really, you know, tough, you know,

[00:28:49] the sex is there but it's, you know, it doesn't, it just happens to be part of the story.

[00:28:53] That's all. Yeah. You know, and you know, you want the main part of the story is

[00:28:59] she's a photographer. You know, this is what I loved about that black.

[00:29:04] She's a photographer journalist. She's getting her job done.

[00:29:08] The other one here is the other one here is just, you know, a woman who's a white,

[00:29:12] a board housewife. She goes to get a massage from another woman, you know,

[00:29:16] she's kind of like, you know, it's kind of like, you know, let me do some exploring.

[00:29:21] Exploring. You get bored of that. You get bored of that after all you go to

[00:29:25] the other series and it's like, oh wow, this is good shit, you know.

[00:29:28] I can't think of any movie with a photographer that doesn't end very sexually.

[00:29:35] It seems like that is always a thing.

[00:29:39] Like it becomes an official casting couch.

[00:29:42] Okay, going back to something that JJ said earlier, I think is particularly vital.

[00:29:47] This, the manual movies at least the first ones came out around the time

[00:29:51] of the sexual revolution of the 70s.

[00:29:54] Yes.

[00:29:55] We had, so we put it, I like to put it into that context because before then you had,

[00:30:01] you had your stag film, you had the roughies, you had some other types where

[00:30:07] the women were more object than person.

[00:30:12] They would move into the 70s and women start to become more self-actualized

[00:30:16] and then from there, you get to see them as more than just an object to be less

[00:30:22] seductive or an object to be, to have sex with.

[00:30:26] They became sexual creatures in and of themselves.

[00:30:29] No, that's a good point because the 60s, there's so many drug taking both on

[00:30:34] and off screen and they once they get past that in the motorcycle stuff

[00:30:38] and into zombies and apocalyptic stuff and even martial arts mixed in with

[00:30:45] extras is like, yeah, it's just kind of part of their character just like James

[00:30:49] Bond.

[00:30:50] Your brain explodes.

[00:30:51] That's what happens.

[00:30:52] It really does.

[00:30:53] And you can see why Chantino ended up the way he did this.

[00:30:57] They were doing milkshakes and stirring in all these genres and some genres together.

[00:31:03] It's like, you know, it's like this thing where I'm like, like, you have two,

[00:31:07] you have two things to look at here.

[00:31:10] Beautiful woman being made by a glass five leads.

[00:31:15] You have a beautiful one being made love to and you know, the story is very

[00:31:19] wilting and very nice.

[00:31:21] You know, she's discovering herself as a woman and it's growing up.

[00:31:24] And then he got this one here with this woman, so photographer and she's doing

[00:31:27] anything and everything to get that story.

[00:31:30] Yes.

[00:31:30] Or she's trying to save somebody.

[00:31:32] To understand you Emmanuel be just like you.

[00:31:36] You know, and that's, that's the thing.

[00:31:38] It's, it's, it's two different sort of, you know, silver crystal character

[00:31:42] looking nice, you know, as a husband and he's, you know, he's a

[00:31:46] he's unsatisfied.

[00:31:48] Yeah.

[00:31:49] Sylvia Christel did lady, did Lady Charity's lover.

[00:31:52] I saw that.

[00:31:53] I saw her and Monophen Gabriel did part two is like, yeah.

[00:31:58] But the one with Sylvia Christel, I remember the most because I think

[00:32:01] that's the one with.

[00:32:03] Uh, shit.

[00:32:06] It's not the one with Adam West.

[00:32:07] That was, uh, that was Belzer's wife.

[00:32:09] Um, yeah.

[00:32:11] Yeah.

[00:32:11] That's right.

[00:32:12] Yeah.

[00:32:12] That was young lady Chatterley.

[00:32:16] I think so.

[00:32:17] Yeah.

[00:32:21] Yeah.

[00:32:22] I would start.

[00:32:23] I mean, ladies, I don't think.

[00:32:26] Oh man.

[00:32:27] I remember them playing that on the channel.

[00:32:29] My show with Harley McBride and they show her getting it on with the

[00:32:33] maid in the bathtub.

[00:32:35] And they're going, uh, like that, you know, like, like, you know,

[00:32:40] you're like, your wife made a porn, right?

[00:32:43] And Belzer was like, what are you cop?

[00:32:45] You know, um, I mean, who, who, who, who Robin show them,

[00:32:49] show the clip Jackie, show the clip.

[00:32:52] Um, and the thing that got me the most is like, I'm watching,

[00:32:56] I was what, so it's like, it's like two different things.

[00:32:58] And I was trying to figure out later why they were showing these

[00:33:02] on Cinemax and on Showtime.

[00:33:05] Why they were showing them.

[00:33:06] And I said, the thing is, is that at a certain point,

[00:33:10] I think a studio runs out of ideas when they're a mainstream studio.

[00:33:16] When they're a low budget studio, they come up with more ideas.

[00:33:19] They sent it out and they just, they're not going to show,

[00:33:22] they're going to show you screwing,

[00:33:25] but they're going to show you what happens when it's done.

[00:33:27] Like, you know, the consequences of it and shit like that.

[00:33:30] They were, they were pretty good and they were pretty,

[00:33:33] the black knows the black in the annual series was pretty good.

[00:33:37] And it was pretty well thought out.

[00:33:38] And it was pretty much, you know, you know,

[00:33:42] meant to be a grindhouse.

[00:33:44] These other three were meant to be mainstream enjoyment for the,

[00:33:48] the husband and wife, you know, maybe they'll get turned on by it.

[00:33:52] You know, go home and fool around.

[00:33:54] You know, who knows these were just, these were just let's watch it.

[00:33:59] See some ass, see some tits, see some bush.

[00:34:02] And then, oh, and then watch, watch the,

[00:34:03] watch the violence that happens that comes along.

[00:34:05] Yeah.

[00:34:05] There's always like some pirates or evil businessmen or sometimes

[00:34:10] even a psycho thriller undercurrent, which makes you kind of even realize

[00:34:14] that's kind of just the basis for all of the nineties erotic filler.

[00:34:17] It's like some sleazy private eye with.

[00:34:21] I mean, you know, you gotta think back in those days.

[00:34:25] Back in those days, you know, a lot of people,

[00:34:26] a lot of these old movie stars were, you know,

[00:34:29] we're going down into the B movies.

[00:34:32] So I've always said the one thing I was like, you know,

[00:34:34] if somebody appeared in black and manual, I was kind of like,

[00:34:40] Hey, what's he doing here?

[00:34:41] But he doesn't have a sex role.

[00:34:42] Okay, good. He's just showing. Yeah.

[00:34:43] He's just going to be there.

[00:34:45] You're like the special guest, you know,

[00:34:46] the special guest star and you're like,

[00:34:48] Oh, there's just some of the movie two days ago, you know,

[00:34:52] it's like Walter, it's like Walter Pige.

[00:34:55] He was like, Oh, my God.

[00:34:56] You know, like he's just showing up in a porno movie and you're like,

[00:34:58] Oh, he's just there for the.

[00:35:01] That's a good intersection.

[00:35:03] When you were showing me how.

[00:35:05] I manual was like in part 17 of the British carry on series.

[00:35:09] I'm like, that is crazy.

[00:35:11] Well,

[00:35:12] that's the one that.

[00:35:13] That I think killed the series.

[00:35:16] I believe it because because like you say it's mixing two totally

[00:35:20] different things together.

[00:35:21] It would be like if you were to mix, I don't know if you did that

[00:35:24] nowadays, let's say you mix in a Star Wars movie with a torture

[00:35:28] porn saw movie.

[00:35:30] You would have.

[00:35:30] Yeah.

[00:35:31] The great house of the musical.

[00:35:33] Right.

[00:35:33] House the musical there you go from the guys that brought you

[00:35:36] crap like cats.

[00:35:38] The thing with the carry on a manual was that they saw how

[00:35:42] successful it was.

[00:35:43] And by that time, a lot of the,

[00:35:44] a lot of the carry on people were getting along in the tooth.

[00:35:48] So what they did was they had Kenneth Williams.

[00:35:51] Play her husband who injures himself skydiving.

[00:35:54] Yes.

[00:35:55] And then all she does is just.

[00:35:57] Bunk anything that moves.

[00:35:58] And a lot of the.

[00:35:59] So I'm.

[00:36:00] Yeah.

[00:36:02] Like, you know, the chauffeur, the gardener, you know.

[00:36:04] And a lot of the people that were in that carry on a manual

[00:36:08] movie were just like, we're not doing this again.

[00:36:11] This is fucking ridiculous.

[00:36:12] You know, you know, this is okay.

[00:36:14] It's like postcard, you know, Brittany.

[00:36:17] They used to say with that it was British seaside postcard humor.

[00:36:20] You know, like, you know, the girl off.

[00:36:22] Yeah.

[00:36:23] Very cheeky, you know, very cheeky, very like, you know,

[00:36:26] like, you know, looking at the camera going, you know, wink.

[00:36:28] And you had, like.

[00:36:30] You had Barbara Windsor in there who was like,

[00:36:32] great piece of this, you know,

[00:36:34] with her perky little body and, you know,

[00:36:39] and then, you know, there was, you know, there was,

[00:36:41] you know, there was Sid James and Charles Hau tree and

[00:36:44] Kenneth Williams, you know.

[00:36:45] You know, Jim Dale was in that series, you know,

[00:36:50] and, you know, they just said, they just said,

[00:36:52] no, this is enough.

[00:36:53] We're pure stopping it here.

[00:36:55] Stop it, won't we?

[00:36:56] Yeah, you know, I think that was the least successful of the

[00:37:00] movies of that carry on series too.

[00:37:04] Which is so funny because you would have thought it would be

[00:37:06] more successful.

[00:37:08] You know, oh yeah, let's make a smooth one manual.

[00:37:11] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:37:12] That's great.

[00:37:12] Yeah.

[00:37:14] Yeah.

[00:37:17] These are for kids, right?

[00:37:18] Right.

[00:37:19] This is for families.

[00:37:20] This was supposed to be, this was like, you know,

[00:37:22] this is a movie, you know, a series of 10 years before made

[00:37:25] Clare carry on Clio, which is one of the best comedies I've

[00:37:28] ever seen.

[00:37:30] Right.

[00:37:30] You know, and they just, they just made this movie and

[00:37:33] they were just like, nope.

[00:37:36] Nope.

[00:37:36] Never again.

[00:37:37] Nope.

[00:37:38] And they had to wait like 17 years to do another one,

[00:37:40] carry on Columbus, which was a piece of shit.

[00:37:45] You know,

[00:37:46] I mean, 10 years.

[00:37:49] Everyone had died from the molders only like two or three

[00:37:52] people left from the original.

[00:37:54] And then, you know, it was just kind of like, you know,

[00:37:57] like, oh yeah, we're.

[00:38:01] Or just, you know, it was like serving warmed over

[00:38:03] spaghetti to someone.

[00:38:08] Even, even.

[00:38:10] Even.

[00:38:10] None mentioned the Emmanuel series sounds a lot like Dr.

[00:38:14] Who.

[00:38:15] If you.

[00:38:17] Kind of in that.

[00:38:19] The logic has always been loose, but not everyone's in on

[00:38:22] all the camp.

[00:38:23] Kind of.

[00:38:24] Yeah.

[00:38:24] And there was a prayer where things started going down

[00:38:27] hill and there was something.

[00:38:28] There was a movie that killed the franchise and it came

[00:38:32] back.

[00:38:32] And it was like, you know,

[00:38:33] I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do that.

[00:38:33] I'm not sure.

[00:38:33] Okay.

[00:38:33] That makes better sense. Yeah. No.

[00:38:35] And then, well, just like.

[00:38:40] You guys were also harping on how people are not sure how to

[00:38:42] take this.

[00:38:43] And yeah, Dr.

[00:38:43] Who kind of has that too?

[00:38:44] Or is like, guys, it, what did you expect?

[00:38:49] Well, having seen the newer ones.

[00:38:51] And more Emmanuel that that was came out.

[00:38:54] And it was like, you know,

[00:38:55] just this last year, 2023,

[00:38:57] it's by cinema epic and it's by Gregory Hananaka who

[00:39:01] you might know from stuff like samurai cop too.

[00:39:07] I'm not kidding.

[00:39:09] It was very dull, but it was very attentive.

[00:39:13] It didn't really deliver on what it promised.

[00:39:16] Then there was Emmanuel's revenge, which is by Keenol Ober.

[00:39:20] And not to be confused with the 83 movie of the same name.

[00:39:23] This one has only one M and kind of like Jim Ser's movies.

[00:39:27] It's kind of an unofficial take on the whole thing.

[00:39:29] And this one, I felt like I was watching a taken movie just

[00:39:32] because there's all these other European, you know,

[00:39:35] half Arab, half French guys going around stalking people.

[00:39:41] Next thing you know, you're seeing all these guys who

[00:39:44] are getting off and watching all these other two sums,

[00:39:47] free sums happening and you're like, fuck is going on.

[00:39:50] I can I don't know who you are.

[00:39:52] It was kind of fun.

[00:39:53] I don't know who you are.

[00:39:55] Yes, I don't know who you are, but I know who you're fucking.

[00:39:57] I have a bunch of skills.

[00:39:59] I will find you and I will fuck you.

[00:40:05] I have a bunch of skills and I'm going to tell you something right now.

[00:40:09] If I'm gonna make a shitty porn or movie because of this,

[00:40:12] I'll fucking kill you.

[00:40:16] I will kill you with my lightsaber up your-

[00:40:18] All I can all I can say is like, if you watch,

[00:40:22] they had a box set of the suit.

[00:40:25] Oh, yes, they cleared all the rights.

[00:40:27] Oh God, they got all the rights.

[00:40:30] How much do you think the author, the tie,

[00:40:34] the tie author made off of these different?

[00:40:38] Oh, but it's like, it's like, you know,

[00:40:41] they got the rights, they got, they cleared it up.

[00:40:43] They did a four.

[00:40:44] I think they did a restoration just recently.

[00:40:45] Yeah.

[00:40:47] And it was like, it was like, holy fuck,

[00:40:50] like the picture looked clear.

[00:40:52] I think studio, studio canal did it.

[00:40:54] I'm looking it up now.

[00:40:56] Okay.

[00:40:56] So the collection with the first two and goodbye with Christelle

[00:41:02] is Rita's set going for 4031.

[00:41:06] Wow.

[00:41:08] This is by anchor Bay.

[00:41:12] Yeah.

[00:41:12] Yeah.

[00:41:14] It's great to know anchor Bay knows good entertainment.

[00:41:16] You know,

[00:41:16] and it's like, it's like you're sitting there.

[00:41:21] You're thinking, Hey, anchor Bay, they, you know,

[00:41:23] they did not scoffer off to you.

[00:41:24] They do all these other movies.

[00:41:26] You know, let's see how they did with the,

[00:41:27] oh, well that's good to know that was there.

[00:41:29] You know,

[00:42:03] um,
