[00:00:01] We missed. We loaded. We edited.

[00:00:08] Sometimes we get so deep into conversation that we have separate segments worthy of their own place in the sun.

[00:00:18] Here is a reshuffled mini episode.

[00:00:26] Oh man, the Die Hard Trilogy game, I had that one. That was fun.

[00:00:31] Okay, cowboy, here's the odds. You've got an exploding building.

[00:00:37] A hot jack airport.

[00:00:42] An entire city under siege.

[00:00:46] Every place you go is crawling with armed terrorists.

[00:00:50] You, you're just a cop in the wrong place at the wrong time.

[00:00:55] Oh yeah, and you're not wearing any shoes.

[00:00:58] Prepare to die hard.

[00:01:00] Explosive Package, the Die Hard Trilogy.

[00:01:21] Now available on PC, CD-ROM, Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation from Fox Interactive.

[00:01:27] Yippee-ki-yay.

[00:01:29] Right, because what was it?

[00:01:31] The first movie was third person.

[00:01:33] The second movie was first person shooter.

[00:01:37] And then the third movie was driving around.

[00:01:39] Driving around, diffusing bombs.

[00:01:41] But like, quote unquote, diffusing bombs.

[00:01:43] Because really all you did is drive around in a taxi cab and you'd have to like hit something.

[00:01:47] And like that was the goal was at the end you'd hit something.

[00:01:49] And when you hit it, then you won that mission.

[00:01:51] Yeah.

[00:01:52] So that was like, quote unquote, diffusing a bomb was like driving your taxi cab into a box or something.

[00:01:58] Right?

[00:02:00] But I loved it.

[00:02:01] I loved that game.

[00:02:01] No, that's cool.

[00:02:02] It's a fun side quest.

[00:02:04] What did you think of the second Die Hard Trilogy game they made?

[00:02:07] I always heard they made another one.

[00:02:08] Yeah.

[00:02:09] And I always heard it was disappointing.

[00:02:11] I couldn't compare it to the first one.

[00:02:14] What was the second one?

[00:02:17] John McClay.

[00:02:19] It's showtime.

[00:02:20] Sin City.

[00:02:22] Die Hard Trilogy 2.

[00:02:24] Viva Las Vegas.

[00:02:27] Get into three times the trouble.

[00:02:30] Freeze!

[00:02:31] As you sharpshoot.

[00:02:34] Explore in the action adventure mode.

[00:02:37] Twelve Deadly Weapons.

[00:02:39] 28 high-blowing levels.

[00:02:42] One badass RV.

[00:02:45] Coming through.

[00:02:46] So load your clip and buckle up.

[00:02:49] Oh yeah.

[00:02:51] Serving it up hot.

[00:03:01] Time to turn up the heat.

[00:03:09] Trilogy 2.

[00:03:10] Viva Las Vegas.

[00:03:12] Game over, man.

[00:03:15] It was for which system?

[00:03:18] And was it the same kind of game for each movie?

[00:03:20] Or was it?

[00:03:21] It was just kind of an original storyline.

[00:03:24] It was called Die Hard Viva Las Vegas?

[00:03:26] Yeah.

[00:03:27] It was just like...

[00:03:29] It was an original storyline.

[00:03:30] It was the same kind of thing where it was three different games kind of in one?

[00:03:33] Right.

[00:03:34] Except just set in Vegas.

[00:03:36] All set in Vegas.

[00:03:37] And busting a guy out of prison.

[00:03:40] So basically emulating the movie's plot, but having really just an excuse to repeat the arcade mode of the first one.

[00:03:49] Tribute to the original for the CD-ROM.

[00:03:54] And then there was like an original one they made that had you fighting the brother of Hans Gruber.

[00:03:59] It was kind of considered non-canon.

[00:04:02] Was it Simon?

[00:04:04] Or was it another brother?

[00:04:05] It was a totally different Gruber brother.

[00:04:08] And it was just hysterical because a lot of people were like, hey, the guy voicing John McClane sounds like a brass Will Ferrell.

[00:04:17] I'll never forget that.

[00:04:17] I was reading that at IGN back in the day and I was like, this sounds terrible.

[00:04:21] I must play this awful game just to see.

[00:04:23] And it's kind of gone out of stock.

[00:04:25] Yeah.

[00:04:26] No, that Die Hard trilogy seems to be kind of the basis for how you make a movie tie-in game.

[00:04:31] Just take out the highlights that people remember.

[00:04:34] And much like Everything or Nothing and even some of these Mission Impossible games, you would have to start the whole level over if you died somewhere in between.

[00:04:41] Or unless you saved at that point.

[00:04:44] Wow.

[00:04:46] But yeah, no, Everything or Nothing, I think.

[00:04:48] The reason it was compared to Die Hard trilogy is just the same kind of deal.

[00:04:52] You had to start just from the top, like jumping off a building, hijacking a motorcycle.

[00:05:01] And people liked it because you used all the actors likeness.

[00:05:06] William Dafoe was playing a protege of Christopher Walken's Max Zorin.

[00:05:12] It was just a very cool original storyline.

[00:05:15] And that seems to be lacking from a lot of these game tie-ins.

[00:05:20] But no, I guess you would rank Die Hard trilogy as one of the top movie tie-in games.

[00:05:28] Yeah, as far as I know, again, I am not a video game expert.

[00:05:32] So I'm just a huge Die Hard fan and Die Hard with a Vengeance fan.

[00:05:35] So I was loving that game.

[00:05:38] No, no, that's awesome.

[00:05:39] What's funny is I knew someone who played it on their Nintendo 64.

[00:05:44] And all they did was complain about it.

[00:05:46] I'm like, well, why are you playing this?

[00:05:48] You're not even that big a Die Hard guy.

[00:05:50] But I think they just love...

[00:05:51] There is something to the ethos, much like Mission Impossible, of the whole get in, get out.

[00:05:57] Much like James Bond, in a way.

[00:05:59] It perfectly accommodates the whole basis of a good versus evil plot.

[00:06:05] I mean, every Bruce Lee movie is practically like a whole level of...

[00:06:09] You go through all these levels of henchmen, you know, get a gadget or a special thing, and then you fight the big boss.

[00:06:16] But like you say, we haven't played games in a while, but it's hard to keep up with.

[00:06:21] You know, what can you do differently that'll make the interactivity fun?

[00:06:24] And then it also reminds you as to why these sometimes don't work as movies is because we've seen it all that they're emulating.

[00:06:30] Right.
