[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_10]: And, you know, he gets introduced by Joe by Grautio Marx because they were having a whole bunch of guests host

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_10]: that season and they they they they were like, they're like, wait, wait, who the hell is Johnny Carson?

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, let's see how good this goes, you know, and they took a chance on him and.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, he had.

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_10]: He had this this thing about him where he would just sit and listen to people.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he was you the great listener.

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_10]: And he and he knew what to ask.

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_10]: He didn't make it about him.

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_10]: I mean, part you watch it sometime.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_10]: He made it about him sometimes.

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_10]: But Carson was like, you know, you know, you would sit behind that desk and I remember I go, I've watched a lot of the stuff.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_10]: And then he just got a lot of stuff.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_10]: He was like, you know, he's been free nineteen sixty eight is been white.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_10]: Unfortunately because NBC just doing the whole.

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, not act out.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_02]: They was being just VHS tapes were just disposable back.

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, so a lot of stuff got white, but if you think about it, he's.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_10]: His way of interviewing was something that was a little bit more relaxed.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, it wasn't like Steve out.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_10]: We're Steve out.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_10]: We'll introduce somebody and then they come on and then he'd have like the guys he worked with, like, you know,

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_10]: Pat Harrington and, you know, Don Natson, you know, Tom Poston and you know, all those guys are coming.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_10]: And then it wasn't like par with like, you know, come out and be a smug, you know, be very smug and, you know, he would over the top.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, oh, not over the top. But he kind of would like, you know, he kind of.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_10]: He had water in the water.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_10]: I'm Joe was kind of pushing it.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_10]: The watercloth of Joe kind of.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_06]: I remember.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_06]: I remember.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_06]: For those who don't know, but six episodes.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, we're pushing it with the network too.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_10]: And I think Carson was the safety valve for NBC at that time.

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_10]: And he was he was bringing people like he would bring in like,

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_10]: you know, he'd have people on, he'd have, you know, people on that were just, you know, very off this.

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_10]: This is the early years mind you.

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_06]: And I was very, very, very, very, very, very, those comedians talk about how, yeah, their blood was flowing to their head or like, how am I going to impress Johnny, you know,

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_06]: it's making my career.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_06]: But if I don't get a laugh from him, oh man, I'm dead.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_06]: It's not only that.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_10]: It's like, it was the comedians.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_10]: It was the actors, the actresses, especially the actresses, sometimes he would have on and you know, sometimes it, you know, you, you know, you got to remember the guy was married four times.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_10]: He was weird.

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_10]: He would weird.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_10]: And I wouldn't blame it.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_10]: The one with Doris Day where she's not wearing a hat.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_10]: Holy, grow.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, brought your marks to the best.

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_10]: I knew Doris Day before she was a virgin.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_10]: And, uh, the thing that, the thing that I mean, he was always bringing in people that were, you know, he,

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_10]: I'm trying to, like, I missed that whole first maybe 10, 15 years of Carson when he was just knocking it out of the park.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead, me.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I started probably I was born in 59 so 71 and I remember, I remember having a road trip vacation with a parents and we got an argument and something.

[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think I just resolved it.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's just watch Carson.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was, it was a soothing effect, you know, everybody.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody knew it was the, it was cool of watch Danny Carson.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_06]: And the 90s he was always in my life.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_06]: There was always promos for like best of the HS compilations and realings.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, you're still see reruns on get TV and we still have some video evidence of what happened like the theme is at games time, a Hawk throw.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_10]: Oh, yeah.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: They play that lot.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, the repeat up which is great because he's, he was going to show Paul.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_10]: What's the show at a game stage?

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I was a, it was a Disney.

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_02]: You played Daniel.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I believe was it a hot guy.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_02]: No, Daniel, yeah with the best Parker.

[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_02]: With the best Parker.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: So, well, it could actually.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Or it was a David, no, it was Daniel.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_02]: It was a Daniel.

[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_10]: And he, that aims at games is going to Johnny throws the Tom Hawkins.

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_10]: Edames throws it and it lands they have like a figure painted on the thing and it hits it right in the crotch.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_10]: And it's right up.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, it gets on the wall.

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_10]: Then Johnny Carson turns to Edames goes, hey, I didn't know you were Jewish.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_10]: Oh, which is true because Edames was Jewish.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_02]: It's one of the longest sustainable apps in history.

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that they had in the Dick Van Dyke show when they were convinced their baby got swapped and the couple came over to.

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_02]: We thought had their baby and they were black couple.

[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for 1963 was wow, you know, or.

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_02]: But that's it.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but everybody, you could just see everybody in the on the stage even enjoying that joke, you know.

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, it was the thing was was that Carson knew how to just jump on something.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_10]: When things were either going to ride or they were going home.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, they were going good, you know, like his time was just timing was impeccable.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_10]: He had the best timing as a community as a as a as a toast and as a community because he knew how to peen you how to keep the foot in both worlds.

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_10]: Yep.

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_06]: It wasn't.

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, how we can know was on.

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, inside of you podcast and talked about how he's like I still think I'm the most hated guy by Carson.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_06]: I really, yeah, because he did some really experimental stuff and John was like, I don't know what that all you're doing.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_02]: But he wasn't I think he warmed up to it later, but he wasn't a big S and L fan.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_06]: I think so because they've been ripped on him in one year or something and his life of mine day and you're going to be mocked in one way or another.

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_06]: You're a famous.

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_02]: They did you do fine.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I was what he said about Chevy Chase the famous quality said couldn't I listen a fart at a being party or something similar to that.

[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, and they were they were grooming Chevy Chase to be the next host for the tonight show like how that turned out.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_06]: But then what yeah.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_10]: In fact, Johnny Carson for Saturday night lives.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_10]: In the 70s, they had done I think they were doing the midnight special.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_10]: And I'm saturday nights they'd run like a best of you know, of Carson.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I big man would announce a stay to for our standing in the best of cars and I'm going to be a control.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_10]: So then what would happen is that.

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_10]: Carson looks like look I can't do I can do you five minutes a week and that's it six your pushing it so then.

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_10]: You see was like okay well, let's see we can figure out to do something.

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_10]: There's this guy Lauren Michaels and.

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_10]: And they basically began the germination for sire out live and that happened, but I always I always am amazed about in the 60s what the other networks throughout.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_10]: To try to be.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_06]: It's like you don't know if they just didn't want to be like Carson or if they just weren't open to suggestions, but it is very mad and you're like you passed on this guy.

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_10]: You've got moved Christian.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_10]: Who was not well liked by Carson I don't think he liked Carson that much.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_10]: And I think I think they had an uneasy relationship or something.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_06]: I think a lot of jealousy seems to be it especially because mer also had away with words and you know Carson.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_06]: I mean, if you're in the same kind of business.

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_06]: One thing I noticed with all these industry professionals even if they've never met the guy or even if they respect them they hate it when you compare them oh how dare you compare me I'm like well you're on the same avenue.

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_10]: He was he was being framed to be like Carson's you know the guy who's going to take Carson on and you know he white probably a week's a caraty I guess.

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_10]: Joe we Bishop had over two years that got white.

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I remember it.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_02]: The fresh griffin and also my Douglas were.

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I watched him after school, they were four o'clock in the afternoon shows which is you don't see now.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah I would watch Merman Griffin and my Douglas all the time you know who's that,

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it was so awesome.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_10]: But, but they would put.

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_10]: They, I think, and I said before the nearer's somebody got to Carson was

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_10]: Dittatted.

[00:13:11] Right.

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_10]: He had that show for a while.

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_10]: Yes.

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_10]: And then he's just.

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_10]: And then he was just like.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_02]: He'd get like Jimmy Hendrix and he'd get Hipper Axe, George Harrison.

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_10]: And I think yeah, yeah John went in on he had the Jefferson airplane and cross these stills and Nash and joining Mitchell like the day after Woodstock.

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_10]: He had Janice drop on Janice job on Janice.

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_02]: They had some kind of camaraderie too.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I haven't even.

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_10]: We can see circles.

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_10]: He also have people on that you know, we're amazing film like you know he had I think he had

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_10]: worse than Wells on.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_10]: I don't think anybody had worse than Wells on.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_06]: But Johnny would have like you know, he went back to a live magician tricky did where he had

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_06]: horse and cutting him in half and I think that friendship remained.

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_06]: The talk about weird relationship.

[00:14:13] [SPEAKER_10]: What one night to have a hand on and I remember seeing a video this it's Mel Brooks Peter

[00:14:21] Bogdanovich.

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_10]: I forgot who else is in Oh Robert Alton van.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh damn.

[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_10]: And that was great because you know he would have he have Mel Brooks on nobody had

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_10]: Mel Brooks on before for the 2000 year old man.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_10]: I really that Mel Brooks is on persons first show.

[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I think he yeah, he was.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, what's awesome.

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_10]: And I'll go ahead.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_10]: No, but he would have people like the thing is,

[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_10]: Carson would have people on that were very sort of like out of the norm.

[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_10]: Like I remember one night he had on Robert Eastern if you know who Robert

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_10]: Eastern is he's an actor you might recognize from a.

[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_10]: Invasion of the giant spider that MST to K he plays the.

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_10]: Oh yeah, yeah, I got to play the food okay his thing was he was a dialect coach in Hollywood.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_10]: And he came on the shop.

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, he says you do you know, I you know, I talk certain people had a certain

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_10]: dialects and stuff like that.

[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_10]: Here's an amazing interview to watch.

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, you have the good old standby like Don Rickles Jonathan,

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_10]: which is all the great.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_06]: All of you, you want to find a documentary that sums up Carson,

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_06]: you know, there's been some good PBS ones that still replay the story

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_06]: of late night is by CNN is on HBO Max still, but what are some other

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_06]: good documentaries with a retrospect on the late night show format that you

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_06]: would recommend for those.

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_10]: Introducing them, my Carson, I think there was an American master say take for him.

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_06]: That's the one I think it I'm coming spacing.

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_06]: I rated it.

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_06]: But yeah, that was good special.

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_06]: It really gave you a good sense of how the guy for all is alcoholism and

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_06]: divorces just wanted to entertain.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_06]: He took it hard even though he knew was on his way out like it was never enough.

[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_06]: What am I going to do the rest of my days on earth?

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_10]: Well, the day he and now see his retiring.

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_10]: I remember that was like front page news.

[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, there's all anyone wanted to talk about is like the voice, uh, I wouldn't

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_06]: call him the voice of America, but he was the voice of TV.

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_10]: He was, he was the gold standard that everybody tried to shoot for.

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_10]: And there are, but I think a lot of people don't realize some of the things

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_10]: he did were, um, like the whole Joan Rivers thing.

[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, that story unto itself.

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, you know, see, Phil been for him and got her own right to show afterwards.

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_10]: Well, what happened was supposedly from what I've gathered for reading and

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_10]: seen Evergott his blessing so to speak.

[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they had a falling out.

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I think he felt like she did it behind his back or yeah, again,

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_06]: and security.

[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_10]: I know.

[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_10]: And some of his anger, anger rose in Bams fault, you know, for him pushing her to do it.

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, um, that whole thing was like, you know, he basically was like,

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_10]: I think he was kind of like gloting a little bit, you know, she got canceled.

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, saying, hey, you know, you got, you made your bed.

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_10]: You got a line, you know, because I think a lot of the guys who wanted to have

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_10]: talk shows like David Brenner had a talk.

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_10]: Do you have a David Brenner was not?

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_10]: If anybody, I don't think David, David Brenner was like, sign-filled.

[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_10]: Well, Carson wanted him and Carson knew that if you know, he was going to give I think Carson wanted him and said,

[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_10]: I want you to give it to Dave Letterman because, you know, he's Midwestern boy, you know, like me.

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, he's ever, he can do this, this and this and of course the board.

[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_10]: And I don't believe all this stuff about lino hiding in the, you know, the cabinet listen to the,

[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I don't think that there are a lot of rumors like yeah, sure.

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_02]: He was like, we might win some, some instances have been improved.

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, I think the thing what he's doing to look at when I was said, look, we can either have Letterman and he brings in the college crowd or we have Leno and we play it safe.

[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_10]: Whenever when when when he flipped when Letterman went to CBS, Johnny made two appearances and he was always giving Letterman jokes.

[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_06]: He didn't want to just be hey, I hear I am the husband here to talk to you know, he can, and you know, I think I think the thing is with him is that.

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_10]: They weren't hyping it a lot now they weren't that they were just kind of like hey it's Johnny's last year let's and the last couple shows that he did I remember seeing the last show and Mike you remember this he was sitting on that stool in his blazer, you know, I think he I think he took the tie off I don't remember.

[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_10]: Because he was and he just said you know I want to thank you for everything and you know it's been a fun time and you know he said goodbye and that was it.

[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And there was a quaver in his voice.

[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, and I think I think Ed.

[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_10]: Was done and I think Ed was kind of like I'm going to you know I'm already you know I'm with you on this.

[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_10]: And you know how how you know I don't like you know the first Mrs. Severance and likes boss oyster stuffing I didn't like oyster stuffing.

[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I was talking about when I DJed the last night he was on the air and I played his entire two record set of Johnny Carson highlights the same night he is his last show.

[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_02]: There's a bit with the smothers brothers and they're doing panel and also Tommy started talking to an actress I came to the actress was might have been Julia, I'm maybe way off.

[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_02]: But he also just stops us as I've always liked you and he's talking to her and says you move around like a princess and you're going to thank you.

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And then there's a slight pause in time ago.

[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_02]: He mess around.

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Johnny after a beater to says it's always the quiet ones, you know he didn't ruin the joke but he just he almost like he got its out of it and now let's get on the show, you know it was it was really it was funny.

[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And then I was going to say that it was a great.

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Well, isn't that also how you know they pretty much did what Johnny always wanted to do you know like speak out against the war and other wrongs in society but you know unfortunately Johnny had to cater to okay I can't get political and they got politically they were denied their.

[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally when after his credibility are you kidding with this stuff he didn't say it like that but he just totally ripped on.

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, basically that you know where where did you get this from you know right.

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I think we thought out you know I mean that they equated the guy in 40 minutes, you know.

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, was he drunk as a scunk as usual?

[00:34:20] [SPEAKER_10]: No, no, no, really.

[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_10]: He had Shelley winters on too.

[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_10]: So you've got Oliver reading Shelley winters.

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_10]: Shelley winters nobody to fuck with.

[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_10]: I mean, I'll be honest with you.

[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_10]: And Oliver read all the thing about you know, I'd like, you know, I think a man and a woman or equal but I think a woman should be doing this and doing this and doing this and when I come home.

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_10]: I said and Shelley would just took her drink and just threw it out.

[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_10]: And then there's the infamous Peter O'Tools story.

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yes.

[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, my God.

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_10]: And Mike you've made a third this one.

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_06]: And actually collected in one of those awesome books that talks about all those awesome English actors and yeah, I would tool and read we're always playing for angones on each other and co-stars.

[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_10]: Well, what happened was, was that I think Peter O'Tools was doing.

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_10]: The ruling class one of the one of those movies and so one of them he went mid 70s.

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, he was in Japan.

[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_10]: And he flew to to help to Hawaii and that had coincided with cocktail hour.

[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_10]: And then it went to Los Angeles that coincided with cocktail hour and then it went to Chicago cocktail hour finally got to New York.

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_10]: Well, I think they got he went to Los New, he went to New York or Los Angeles, he was in New York or it was in LA.

[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_10]: And Carson went up to him and said, how are you, Mr. O'Tools? He's like, I don't know.

[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_10]: He's like, what is he going to do?

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_10]: And no tool in and out.

[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_10]: And was bombed and tired at the same time.

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_10]: Oh, it's him.

[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_10]: And then he left the show and Carson had to say, I'm sorry, Mr. O'Tools very tired and very very jet lagging all that.

[00:57:29] [SPEAKER_10]: So my grandmother speak.

[00:57:31] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah okay alright.

[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_10]: So my mom turns on the night show.

[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_10]: And my grandmother's watching it and she hears my grandmother had a bell and my mom walked in and I think she said mom gets to go to the bathroom.

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_10]: My grandmother was crying she's pointing at the bay and I watched that room but my mom told me to sort of there's a grandmother was crunch you knew Johnny Carson was off the ear now.

[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_10]: And I was like that's what happened when.

[00:58:05] [SPEAKER_10]: Telly's the ballastide I got a picture of my grandma with telly's the ballast and my mom said you know telly's the ballast I'd mom my grandmother.

[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_10]: Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah like.

[00:58:15] [SPEAKER_10]: Great actor.

[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_10]: But you know she was upset Carson was off the ear because she would watch Carson.

[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_06]: And we know that icons who are so surreal and then when they they leave us is like yeah that's lightning in the bottle you can't.

[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_10]: Like my grandmother would wake me up at like 11 30 at being fat she's like what have watched Carson with me yeah sure okay grandma.

[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_06]: So I think what you guys above perfectly illustrated is this kind of brought up the whole.

[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_06]: Get your TV dinners in order and you know we're watching a variety show tonight but it's not like anything you've ever seen and somehow is able to just bring out the best in society and laughter.

[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I do remember there was an article I prayed man some entertainment, maybe whatever came to the magazine but the heart was about a woman who just totally.

[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Flabbergasted a party. I've never watched Carson.

[00:59:15] [SPEAKER_10]: You know and I remember like reading about who they you know when we talked about who they threw out at that time you know.

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah well you said Merff Griffin and that was daytime but he had a nighttime show they Jerry Lewis had a talk show that flopped less there's a gunning West.

[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_10]: Bank or less something less green less green less green.

[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_10]: He was kind of antagonistic all I think yeah wow and from one understand it was like he was just really like just like ABC had him on and they kind of pulled him off.

[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, cavit state a while, cavit state a long time you know they they would put any you know I just remember anybody.

[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_10]: And then they brought in Teresa Gaines L was great, you know and could could do things.

[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_10]: You know, she was she's a lot of TV shows when we're growing up. I remember her being on the duck factory.

[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess we're not wrapping it up soon, but I do remember.

[01:01:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is a bizarre bit.

[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, just came in and somebody just throws it on the you know a fish gets thrown on the plate.
