[00:00:00] O-line has been here September 25th on Sci-Fi.

[00:00:14] Welcome all, welcome all. We're in here to boogie once more.

[00:01:04] Returning Billy Bregnard himself from the Future War Stories blog. Howdy.

[00:01:09] What's going on? Howdy, not so stranger. Oreo is back.

[00:01:14] Damn skippy.

[00:01:18] Introducing film buff Roger Preet. Welcome.

[00:01:23] Hello, glad to be here.

[00:01:25] And one of the two cohorts behind the Yum Yum Pod, which carnacles all future warfare.

[00:01:32] We got Ryan. Welcome.

[00:01:34] Welcome. Hello, it's me, Brian Slawinski from Yum Yum Podcast.

[00:01:41] I almost sounded like you were channeling the Lego movie sketch there for a minute.

[00:01:45] Honey, where are my pants?

[00:01:48] Where are my pants?

[00:01:51] But no, it's such a joy to come on.

[00:01:54] I stumbled across you guys just from being a sci-fi fan and being like, oh, what's happening?

[00:01:59] What's going on? And I would see you pop up on social media feeds a bunch and then eventually

[00:02:05] have gotten better on Instagram more than I can say.

[00:02:08] Twitter or whatever it's called.

[00:02:10] X. Yeah.

[00:02:13] And then we like similar things.

[00:02:16] Space Above and Beyond is a series that my wife and I are covering on our podcast.

[00:02:22] And of course, we sci-fi.

[00:02:26] There's always the similar things with you like this.

[00:02:27] If you like this, you like that.

[00:02:29] If you like that, you like this.

[00:02:31] And so Babylon five is a show that we cover on our podcast.

[00:02:36] We're nearing the end of the show.

[00:02:38] We're on the fifth season currently.

[00:02:40] You want to chronologically?

[00:02:45] And so I'm glad to.

[00:02:47] Did you watch it chronologically?

[00:02:49] Oh yeah. Chronologically.

[00:02:51] Now we just watched it in a we're doing it in relative broadcast order.

[00:02:55] I mean, we did cheat.

[00:02:56] I mean, it was a animated movie when it came out.

[00:02:59] But it does mean that we will end with the lost tales.

[00:03:03] And so that's depressing.

[00:03:06] But that's how it is.

[00:03:10] Hey.

[00:03:12] Well, you have the animated film.

[00:03:14] So we can actually not end on lost.

[00:03:16] Yeah.

[00:03:18] We'll let everyone pitch in and do their own ranking now.

[00:03:22] I just figure this would be a good time than any to just

[00:03:24] do a little bit of the show.

[00:03:26] So yeah, it's a lot of fun.

[00:03:28] It's a lot of fun.

[00:03:30] And it's a lot of fun.

[00:03:32] I mean, like, you know, I mean,

[00:03:34] mainly, you know, we can briefly sum up how we got into it

[00:03:36] and then illustrate like our favorite moments

[00:03:40] and they can be anything, a battle, a line,

[00:03:44] a suspenseful moment

[00:03:47] just comedic segment.

[00:03:50] But this really is everything, you know, it's

[00:03:52] it's philosophical.

[00:03:54] Mr. Is that a stone of sci-fi?

[00:03:57] Especially the Bible.

[00:03:59] Don't forget the Bible.

[00:04:01] Lift stuff from there, too.

[00:04:03] Definitely.

[00:04:05] They definitely say some verses here and there.

[00:04:08] Oh, man.

[00:04:10] So, you know, I

[00:04:13] I'd always heard of this.

[00:04:15] I was always seeing references to it.

[00:04:17] I was always encountering the actors in various made for TV

[00:04:20] or B movies and, you know,

[00:04:22] some of them are already kind of were household names

[00:04:25] like Bruce Box Lutner, but I was always kind of one of those.

[00:04:28] I saw a Call to Arms movie in college

[00:04:31] just because I was a Tony Todd fan.

[00:04:34] But I then, you know, I would always see

[00:04:37] portions of it on sci-fi channel in the late 2000s.

[00:04:40] And then it's like it vanished

[00:04:42] and I didn't have any parents that were going to let me

[00:04:45] buy DVDs out of the ground up.

[00:04:47] I had an uncle who was a fan of it.

[00:04:49] But long story short, he was going through

[00:04:52] a painful divorce.

[00:04:54] And part of that divorce script away his access to TNT cable

[00:04:58] so he couldn't keep it either.

[00:05:00] But, yeah, no, I

[00:05:03] Amazon Prime was really good at just kind of

[00:05:06] having it accessible and

[00:05:08] throughout the late 2010s, I did do a quick

[00:05:12] binge through and I was always reading up on it.

[00:05:15] And for me, it was kind of the mixture of

[00:05:18] if you took a Buck Rogers type show

[00:05:19] and then you did it on a Roger Corman full moon,

[00:05:23] puppet master type budget.

[00:05:25] But story comes first.

[00:05:27] It's kind of one of those few that slip through the cracks.

[00:05:30] It's hard to introduce people to it.

[00:05:32] But once you do, it's easy to see why it's captivated

[00:05:35] everybody from anime junkies to even gamers.

[00:05:39] And now we have other stuff in the form of like

[00:05:42] the New Battle Star, the Expanse and what have you.

[00:05:45] But I don't think those could exist without

[00:05:47] this kind of taking the plunge first, kind of like, you know,

[00:05:51] Oreo and I will talk about the different shows, you know,

[00:05:53] without homicide and NYPD Blue.

[00:05:56] You don't get the shield and sums of energy.

[00:05:59] All those other gritty crime epics.

[00:06:02] It's but I'll circle around here.

[00:06:06] Roger, how did you make time for this?

[00:06:10] But for the for Babylon five.

[00:06:13] Yeah. Oh, yeah.

[00:06:15] Actually, I got into it late.

[00:06:17] I got into it late.

[00:06:19] But luckily, I had a friend that recorded all of them on VHS.

[00:06:23] So he would give me the tapes and I would go through them like butter.

[00:06:29] You know, and sweet.

[00:06:32] Yeah, there are some wicked ads for those if you guys want to

[00:06:35] scrounge the Internet for them, especially just some of the ones

[00:06:39] that come later where you're like, you know what?

[00:06:41] Imagine if that had been in the 2000s when they started playing

[00:06:44] TV promos before a movie screening, that would have been meta.

[00:06:48] It's the that Foley on a big screen.

[00:06:52] Yeah. So, Ryan, you've talked about it back and forth on Yum Yum.

[00:06:57] But what why do you think, you know, obviously, the show gels with

[00:07:03] you and it's just downright epic.

[00:07:06] But can you imagine your life without it?

[00:07:09] Oh, well, no, of course not.

[00:07:11] I grew up with science fiction.

[00:07:13] My parents are big sci fi fans.

[00:07:16] You would have the regular in rotation.

[00:07:19] Star Trek was always there.

[00:07:21] It was always on TV.

[00:07:23] Whatever one was on was on.

[00:07:25] Usually TNG would play the most or maybe Voyager or something around.

[00:07:29] And my parents really liked Babylon five.

[00:07:34] They're big nerds.

[00:07:36] They went down the rabbit hole for it.

[00:07:38] They were engaged.

[00:07:39] They were engaged.

[00:07:41] I've seen with them, with the with a series like they did the whole

[00:07:45] recorded off the TV and then look at look at liters.

[00:07:49] I when when cost reveals himself, what's happening in that eye?

[00:07:53] I'm in that reflection, huh?

[00:07:55] And they guessed it.

[00:07:56] They guessed it correctly before the reveal happened because of

[00:07:59] their nerdiness.

[00:08:00] They've seen so many movies and TV growing up.

[00:08:03] Right.

[00:08:04] And so when it comes to myself, though, there was one or two

[00:08:07] movies that I remember seeing only vaguely mainly the comes the

[00:08:12] Inquisitor episode.

[00:08:14] I remember that as being an entryway point.

[00:08:17] But eventually they came to be on DVD and I got the first season

[00:08:23] on DVD and I watched that from back to front.

[00:08:26] Didn't know about the gathering because the movies want a

[00:08:30] separate DVD.

[00:08:32] You see so down here in Australia, the distribution for the

[00:08:35] physical media release was really wonky at the time.

[00:08:38] So I had season one for three, maybe four years on its own before

[00:08:44] being able to get the rest of it.

[00:08:46] So I've known the first season the most knowing all of like the

[00:08:51] ins and outs of it.

[00:08:52] So I have an affection for the first season that some people don't

[00:08:56] and I'm like, how can you not love the first season?

[00:08:58] It has Sinclair, my friend Sinclair.

[00:09:01] It was very, it hasn't a graph.

[00:09:03] I don't know if you all remember it, but it was a very

[00:09:06] famous movie and they did a lot of this.

[00:09:09] And then they were like, yeah, there was like, for whatever

[00:09:13] reason, just that was kind of part of why they had an exit stage

[00:09:17] right. They and they were like, we need to up some Star

[00:09:20] Power who is a TV.

[00:09:21] He had heart trouble.

[00:09:23] Well, well, yeah, he was schizophrenic.

[00:09:26] But like I remember wow, I mean, yeah.

[00:09:29] I remember you saying this is an interesting show, but we can't

[00:09:32] this main guy is kind of Lee Estelle.

[00:09:35] And it's like, really?

[00:09:37] It's got that great voice.

[00:09:39] We can talk about Sinclair because there's a lot to talk

[00:09:42] about there. But in terms of B5, just it's always jelled

[00:09:47] with me because even from the beginning, it's clear how

[00:09:51] much there is to go forward.

[00:09:54] Like each episode, like a lot of episodes had callbacks to

[00:09:57] it.

[00:09:59] And I remember being as a kid watching it, the most profound

[00:10:03] moment, like the first really profound moment to me was when

[00:10:07] Garibaldi took Sinclair aside in one of the episodes and

[00:10:11] said, Hey, have you noticed that you've been trying to kill

[00:10:14] yourself in every previous episode?

[00:10:16] That's kind of not good, actually.

[00:10:18] And he talks to him about it and it's like, oh, the

[00:10:21] show recognizes that it's been doing this thing that I, the

[00:10:24] show, I think it was a period or before the show, you know,

[00:10:28] each episode was its own thing and you'd move on.

[00:10:31] And so if there was any recurring little patterns,

[00:10:34] maybe they would latch onto those.

[00:10:37] But most often it just happens.

[00:10:39] So we'll read your books about it.

[00:10:41] Yeah.

[00:10:43] I love B5.

[00:10:45] Oh, and William, you know, it's obviously any kind of

[00:10:51] future warfare.

[00:10:53] It just merges with you.

[00:10:55] It impacts you, everything from space above and beyond to

[00:10:59] Terminator to aliens.

[00:11:01] But where would you rank this in your love of that subgenre?

[00:11:08] It's interesting because, you know, I watched it when it

[00:11:11] was first on TV in America and I had to like get

[00:11:15] because I'm from northern Oklahoma and I had to like tune

[00:11:17] in to get it from the station from Wichita and my brother

[00:11:21] second season.

[00:11:23] He's like, you need to watch this show.

[00:11:25] So I actually watched they repeated in the summer and

[00:11:27] Bruce Boxlightner, I grew up with Tron and the Centauri

[00:11:33] ambassador.

[00:11:35] Oh, yeah.

[00:11:37] Yeah.

[00:11:39] Lando's in there, which I didn't know until very

[00:11:41] recently, but he's in Tron too.

[00:11:43] Tron, the original ID too.

[00:11:44] For me, it was like all of a sudden you've got the straight

[00:11:47] diet of Star Trek and then every in the 90s, you know,

[00:11:49] sci-fi TV blows up with X-Files and all that.

[00:11:51] And all of a sudden we get B5 and there were ads for

[00:11:53] it. I'm like, what is this?

[00:11:55] Is this DS9?

[00:11:57] DS9 beats it.

[00:11:59] And of course there's all conspiracy theory behind

[00:12:01] that. But for me, what it ranked is because I saw it

[00:12:03] start seeking second season and all of a sudden the

[00:12:05] premiere of the second season, there's Bruce Boxlightner.

[00:12:07] There is the Omega class destroyer, the Agamemnon,

[00:12:10] which, you know, is like the Leona from 2010.

[00:12:12] I'm like, oh my God, this ship looks badass.

[00:12:15] And I was hooked.

[00:12:17] And then of course, first episode is so dynamic with

[00:12:19] the second season, episode one with Bruce Boxlightner

[00:12:22] and it's such a dynamic episode and there's a lot

[00:12:24] with it.

[00:12:26] And of course later they picked that up in one of

[00:12:28] the TNT movies, which is one of the great

[00:12:30] movies.

[00:12:32] But for me immediately, it was like I was already

[00:12:34] in the military science fiction thing.

[00:12:36] And then when you start to get that and then of

[00:12:38] course here comes Space Above and Beyond.

[00:12:40] And then you have this wonderful time period.

[00:12:42] And like his parents, you know, I'm 47 years old.

[00:12:45] I put my VHS tapes and labeled each one of them.

[00:12:48] The episode has stupid names.

[00:12:50] I'm sorry they do.

[00:12:52] You know, with like this happened because you

[00:12:54] could never figure out what the episode was.

[00:12:56] His name was Jerry Baldy Seniors.

[00:12:58] Right.

[00:12:59] Yeah.

[00:13:01] First episode was shared in or whatever on my

[00:13:03] VHS tapes I carefully labeled.

[00:13:05] And so I would take the great ones, the

[00:13:07] really interesting ones.

[00:13:08] And then I would go to the

[00:13:13] movie theaters and so for me it automatically,

[00:13:16] especially with the episode where they go with

[00:13:18] the actual outfit B5 and you get the actor

[00:13:20] from Terminator that comes in as Father God

[00:13:22] where you actually could grow up, which

[00:13:24] actually later bought the role playing game

[00:13:26] module for that.

[00:13:28] So I could talk about in future stories,

[00:13:30] but it was really interesting that hooked me

[00:13:32] and it was so different than anything going

[00:13:34] on, especially, you know, this I didn't

[00:13:36] start off that strong, but about falling

[00:13:38] into the role playing game.

[00:13:40] I did.

[00:13:42] Double in five seasons better than DS9

[00:13:44] hot take dropping it.

[00:13:46] I think you have me on will back me up,

[00:13:48] right?

[00:13:50] Will you back me up?

[00:13:52] The first season of B5 has a big

[00:13:54] pragmatist gangster.

[00:13:56] It has of course everyone's favorite

[00:13:58] character jinx.

[00:14:00] And it has Walker Smith of the who

[00:14:04] of course was Garrett Reboldy's best

[00:14:06] friend who told him to watch his back.

[00:14:08] The first season can be like, I think

[00:14:10] I say this with our show a lot, but

[00:14:12] the first season of any science fiction

[00:14:14] show is going to be a crucible for

[00:14:16] people because they can be slow plotting

[00:14:19] rocky. The acting can all be all

[00:14:21] over the place. But there's always

[00:14:23] at least for the most part a hook

[00:14:25] in some way.

[00:14:27] I think for many people, at least

[00:14:29] for me when I was a young lad is

[00:14:31] Londo was that hook because he was

[00:14:33] very fun character. He's very funny,

[00:14:35] but he's dramatic and he's an alien.

[00:14:36] As a kid, I'm like cool, wacky alien

[00:14:38] who's like a slubby guy.

[00:14:40] And he's also a bad, he's a bad

[00:14:42] guy. He's a piece of shit, but

[00:14:44] I love him anyway.

[00:14:46] And you know, and yeah, the

[00:14:48] spaceship stuff and all that stuff.

[00:14:50] It's like there's always going to

[00:14:52] be something if you're a sci-fi

[00:14:54] fan, there's always going to be

[00:14:56] that little hook in there for you.

[00:14:58] I mean, if anyone says they're

[00:15:00] a fan of TNG and they watch the

[00:15:02] first season of TNG, I mean,

[00:15:04] that's more brutal than any first

[00:15:06] season of TNG.

[00:15:07] I think it's like the best

[00:15:09] TV show you've ever seen,

[00:15:11] or B5.

[00:15:13] It's actually neck and neck for me.

[00:15:15] I just love them both.

[00:15:17] I love everything next gen.

[00:15:19] As long as it's not an episode

[00:15:21] that involves too much Alexander

[00:15:23] or Troy's mom, I'm good.

[00:15:25] Same thing with DS9.

[00:15:27] Like anything that's

[00:15:29] Ferengi central, no thanks.

[00:15:33] I just I never got the appeal.

[00:15:34] I just like the

[00:15:37] look.

[00:15:39] It's hurting.

[00:15:41] Did you leave Joy where they came

[00:15:43] on Enterprise, where you got where

[00:15:45] the next one has a run in with

[00:15:47] the Ferengi? That's fun.

[00:15:49] Oh, yeah.

[00:15:50] If they're the bad guys in the

[00:15:51] week, that's fine.

[00:15:52] I just mean, it's showing all

[00:15:54] of their culture and everything.

[00:15:56] Oh, I like the culture

[00:15:58] stuff, because that really gives

[00:16:00] you more depth into who they are

[00:16:02] versus, you know, like, look,

[00:16:03] they're going to be in another

[00:16:05] series and they explore more.

[00:16:07] That's why I love DS9, because

[00:16:09] they took a lot of characters

[00:16:11] from TNT.

[00:16:13] We're going to give them more

[00:16:15] life and give them actual depth

[00:16:17] to them versus what they had

[00:16:19] before.

[00:16:20] It's kind of just sad how

[00:16:24] those writers were like some of

[00:16:26] the few who could fight producer

[00:16:28] Rick Berman. It was kind of the

[00:16:30] gatekeeper and it was like

[00:16:31] he's going to take it over to

[00:16:33] what he wants.

[00:16:35] You're going to take this.

[00:16:37] I was going to say, it is

[00:16:39] amusing just to go back to B5 for

[00:16:41] a second. You know, you have

[00:16:43] the Ferengis and Star Trek,

[00:16:45] DS9. They're the comedy race.

[00:16:47] They're the funny guys.

[00:16:48] You can have an episode.

[00:16:49] And I appreciate that even in

[00:16:51] B5 that the comedy alien races

[00:16:53] will become a serious force

[00:16:55] later on like the Centauri are

[00:16:57] a joke when you start the

[00:16:59] show. The Drazi are a joke.

[00:17:01] They're the worst race in

[00:17:02] history.

[00:17:03] They're like the best race in

[00:17:05] history.

[00:17:06] And then they're like, oh,

[00:17:07] that's a bunch of different

[00:17:09] colors to the end of this show.

[00:17:11] And they're one of the most

[00:17:12] powerful races in the show,

[00:17:14] like the Drazi and the non just

[00:17:16] wreck stuff.

[00:17:17] But it's like, yeah, well,

[00:17:19] shit with the colors.

[00:17:20] That was so funny.

[00:17:22] It's fantastic.

[00:17:23] It kind of goes back to that

[00:17:26] classic original series

[00:17:28] track episode of the whole

[00:17:31] kind of that same kind of deal

[00:17:32] where you're like, seriously, do

[00:17:33] you hear yourself right now?

[00:17:36] The only time I like the

[00:17:38] Ferengi is on a lower deck.

[00:17:40] So that's as much as I like the

[00:17:42] Ferengi.

[00:17:43] Yeah.

[00:17:44] Yeah.

[00:17:45] Watch his lower decks or not.

[00:17:47] I got your reference.

[00:17:52] So.

[00:17:54] Anyone into like the figures or

[00:17:56] toys with Babylon 5 or any of

[00:17:57] the merchandise?

[00:17:58] I have some figures actually.

[00:18:00] I'm trying to hunt them

[00:18:02] down.

[00:18:03] It's like, oh, yeah.

[00:18:05] From a B5 books.

[00:18:07] Yeah, I got a lot of their stuff,

[00:18:08] but it's so expensive.

[00:18:11] I know the security manual.

[00:18:14] Sucker born every day.

[00:18:16] I can't help it.

[00:18:17] I'm a fan.

[00:18:18] I buy everything.

[00:18:19] No, I'm not saying you guys

[00:18:20] are awful.

[00:18:21] It's just that that's what I

[00:18:22] hate is they just up these

[00:18:23] prices knowing damn well we

[00:18:25] want it.

[00:18:26] And it's just like, come on.

[00:18:27] I get limited print runs and

[00:18:29] this stuff's expensive.

[00:18:30] The print. I mean, I get that,

[00:18:31] but I can't be that expensive.

[00:18:33] I know I have on my channel.

[00:18:35] I've covered Babylon 5

[00:18:38] and Valen's name, the price of

[00:18:39] peace.

[00:18:40] I have the cookbook on

[00:18:42] the channel.

[00:18:43] It's a great cookbook, isn't

[00:18:44] it?

[00:18:45] It's called Wookie Cookies.

[00:18:46] I have

[00:18:49] the security manual as well.

[00:18:51] I'm trying to track down the

[00:18:53] encyclopedia through OCLC,

[00:18:55] but I haven't had any luck

[00:18:56] yet.

[00:18:59] Yeah, and then the Babylon

[00:19:00] 5 at 20 with all the high

[00:19:02] duff pictures and stuff and all

[00:19:03] that.

[00:19:04] And they're like, this is the

[00:19:05] closest we can get to the

[00:19:06] Blu-ray.

[00:19:07] I'm glad they're wrong on

[00:19:08] that.

[00:19:10] You know what a time.

[00:19:12] When it comes to those things,

[00:19:14] the books and stuff,

[00:19:16] they are annoying to track

[00:19:18] down. I have the cookbook

[00:19:20] because it was amusing

[00:19:22] to have the B5 cookbook.

[00:19:24] And if you're someone who

[00:19:25] likes to watch the show and

[00:19:26] you can rewatch it, it is

[00:19:27] amusing to see the weird food

[00:19:29] that they gave these actors to

[00:19:30] eat.

[00:19:31] It's like, here's some blue

[00:19:32] balls.

[00:19:33] Now eat that.

[00:19:35] Are you able to show that

[00:19:36] picture that I sent you?

[00:19:38] Yeah.

[00:19:39] You have this $200 autograph.

[00:19:41] Check out this thing I bought

[00:19:42] a couple of months ago at

[00:19:43] the one cow book store got

[00:19:45] it in.

[00:19:47] It's got all this giant

[00:19:48] cast.

[00:19:50] Oh, nice.

[00:19:52] Did it show up?

[00:19:53] I don't see it, but they

[00:19:54] can see it.

[00:19:56] Is the cast photo?

[00:19:57] They did 100 of those.

[00:19:59] Oh, I also have the

[00:20:01] Faith Manages source book

[00:20:03] on my channel too.

[00:20:04] Sweet.

[00:20:07] So, Oreo, how did you

[00:20:09] get into that?

[00:20:10] Was it back in the 90s

[00:20:11] or was it in reruns

[00:20:13] or years later?

[00:20:14] When it was

[00:20:16] on in the 90s, I was

[00:20:17] into DS9.

[00:20:19] I saw it and I was like, fuck

[00:20:20] that show.

[00:20:21] I like Trek. Trek is

[00:20:22] dominant forever.

[00:20:24] I turned my

[00:20:26] nose at the B5 back thing

[00:20:27] because I was like, I don't

[00:20:28] care about that shit.

[00:20:29] It's junk.

[00:20:30] And then I got into it.

[00:20:32] I got into it.

[00:20:33] It's fun to rank these as

[00:20:34] part of the Trek canon in

[00:20:35] some way.

[00:20:36] I was like, let's try

[00:20:38] this B5 movie.

[00:20:39] It's the fifth best Trek

[00:20:40] movie.

[00:20:43] And I bought

[00:20:45] season one off

[00:20:47] eBay for eight bucks.

[00:20:49] And I was like,

[00:20:50] I want to see how this is.

[00:20:52] And I got through

[00:20:54] it and I was like, I need

[00:20:55] season two.

[00:20:56] So I bought

[00:20:58] every other season.

[00:20:59] I bought all the seasons.

[00:21:00] I bought the movies,

[00:21:01] I bought Crusade.

[00:21:03] And when I finished

[00:21:04] it, I was like, oh

[00:21:06] my God, this show is so

[00:21:07] fucking good.

[00:21:09] And I was

[00:21:11] in tears.

[00:21:12] It's so powerful.

[00:21:14] Man, this is a heavy

[00:21:15] fucking show.

[00:21:16] So sad.

[00:21:17] Yes, because you have to

[00:21:18] watch it chronologically

[00:21:19] because I didn't know about

[00:21:20] the chrono order until

[00:21:22] after I finished my

[00:21:23] rewatch.

[00:21:24] I was like, there's a

[00:21:25] chrono order?

[00:21:26] OK.

[00:21:27] My chrono order.

[00:21:29] And you have to watch

[00:21:30] the last two movies

[00:21:32] before the series finale

[00:21:34] for it to really

[00:21:36] have that heavy ass

[00:21:37] impact.

[00:21:38] I'm like,

[00:21:39] that killed me.

[00:21:40] But the best part

[00:21:42] of B5 is not

[00:21:44] just Sheridan.

[00:21:46] It's the reverse trilogy

[00:21:48] with Sinclair

[00:21:50] becoming Valen.

[00:21:51] I love that so much.

[00:21:52] I was like, there's a

[00:21:53] fucking trilogy within

[00:21:54] the whole series.

[00:21:55] And it's so

[00:21:57] beautifully written

[00:21:58] and the way it

[00:21:59] unfolds is so

[00:22:01] goddamn good.

[00:22:02] Don't they?

[00:22:04] Every once in a while

[00:22:05] I will meet some

[00:22:06] fans who don't seem

[00:22:07] to be familiar

[00:22:08] with what

[00:22:10] the show is

[00:22:11] similar to.

[00:22:12] They're just like,

[00:22:13] oh, I don't believe

[00:22:14] that. I'm like,

[00:22:15] well, believe it.

[00:22:16] It's on record as

[00:22:18] Jay Michael

[00:22:19] Svazinski said,

[00:22:20] I'm making

[00:22:21] Hill Street Blues

[00:22:22] in space for the

[00:22:23] Lord of the Rings

[00:22:24] overview and

[00:22:25] technology.

[00:22:26] Well, yeah.

[00:22:28] But why would

[00:22:29] that not make sense?

[00:22:31] For real, like,

[00:22:32] and Jane Michael.

[00:22:33] Oh my God, I love him.

[00:22:35] Yeah, he can justify

[00:22:36] everything he does.

[00:22:37] I love how he'll

[00:22:38] sometimes get too

[00:22:39] close to the material

[00:22:40] and say, I went

[00:22:41] on too long in

[00:22:42] that lecture or rant

[00:22:43] that the character had.

[00:22:44] You know, like really,

[00:22:45] I thought it was cool.

[00:22:47] He's a tree.

[00:22:48] He's a real tree

[00:22:49] on Twitter.

[00:22:50] I love him so much.

[00:22:51] Yeah.

[00:22:52] Everyone always keeps

[00:22:53] asking him how many

[00:22:54] are on this ship.

[00:22:55] I think it's

[00:22:56] a lot of work

[00:22:57] to get to that

[00:22:58] point.

[00:22:59] And I think

[00:23:00] that's why

[00:23:01] I think it's

[00:23:02] interesting

[00:23:03] to see

[00:23:04] as much as

[00:23:05] the plot demands.

[00:23:07] Oh, it's actually

[00:23:08] confirmed

[00:23:09] in the security

[00:23:10] manual.

[00:23:12] Oh, yeah.

[00:23:14] I still have

[00:23:15] some of those

[00:23:16] RPG

[00:23:17] online things

[00:23:18] that confirm

[00:23:19] even more details.

[00:23:20] I know he likes

[00:23:21] to call non-canon

[00:23:22] because he can sign off

[00:23:23] on it.

[00:23:24] I think

[00:23:25] that's

[00:23:26] something

[00:23:27] that's been helped

[00:23:28] out on one later

[00:23:29] episode.

[00:23:30] You have like

[00:23:31] Larry

[00:23:32] deTileo, who

[00:23:33] was a partner

[00:23:34] of JMS's

[00:23:35] from his days

[00:23:36] in animation

[00:23:37] and he had him

[00:23:38] in the first

[00:23:39] year.

[00:23:40] Larry deTileo

[00:23:41] also was

[00:23:42] a big writer

[00:23:43] for like

[00:23:44] tabletop games

[00:23:45] and things

[00:23:46] like that.

[00:23:47] And when you

[00:23:48] go back to

[00:23:49] the first two

[00:23:50] seasons, you

[00:23:51] can kind of

[00:23:52] see that

[00:23:53] David

[00:23:54] Gerald, who

[00:23:55] did

[00:23:56] Trouble with Tribbles.

[00:23:57] He wrote everyone's

[00:23:58] favorite episode,

[00:23:59] Believers, the

[00:24:00] fun

[00:24:01] episode of

[00:24:02] B5 that said

[00:24:03] Watch Franklin

[00:24:04] kill a

[00:24:05] kid.

[00:24:06] No, Watch Franklin

[00:24:07] get a

[00:24:08] kid killed.

[00:24:09] That fun

[00:24:10] episode.

[00:24:11] That episode, I feel

[00:24:12] so meta.

[00:24:13] Like I feel like

[00:24:14] in some ways

[00:24:15] that's been

[00:24:16] influenced

[00:24:17] and other stuff

[00:24:18] kind of like

[00:24:19] the Ornil.

[00:24:20] Oh, yeah.

[00:24:21] I use that

[00:24:22] where a fan

[00:24:23] like lands

[00:24:24] on the show

[00:24:25] because some people

[00:24:26] fucking hate that

[00:24:27] episode.

[00:24:28] Some people love

[00:24:29] that episode.

[00:24:30] I feel like it's

[00:24:31] supposed to move us.

[00:24:32] A white kid violence

[00:24:33] give it to me.

[00:24:34] Oh my god.

[00:24:35] Fuck them kids.

[00:24:36] B5s.

[00:24:37] I am, dude.

[00:24:38] So no, that's true.

[00:24:39] I feel like

[00:24:40] half the time

[00:24:41] stuff like this

[00:24:42] is supposed to

[00:24:43] move other

[00:24:44] people, but

[00:24:45] it just

[00:24:46] it moves them

[00:24:47] the wrong way.

[00:24:48] And so

[00:24:49] I feel like

[00:24:50] it's

[00:24:51] it moves them

[00:24:52] the wrong way.

[00:24:53] And so then they

[00:24:54] get on the

[00:24:55] defense.

[00:24:56] And some people

[00:24:57] don't get

[00:24:58] the whole premise

[00:24:59] of the show.

[00:25:00] And that's

[00:25:01] where everything

[00:25:02] is lost in

[00:25:03] translation.

[00:25:04] Yeah, it's all

[00:25:05] fiction, but

[00:25:06] it's also

[00:25:07] a reflection

[00:25:08] of the

[00:25:09] world

[00:25:10] today.

[00:25:11] Even

[00:25:12] I can't remember

[00:25:13] what episode

[00:25:14] there were a

[00:25:15] couple of

[00:25:16] those that were

[00:25:17] a reflection

[00:25:18] of what was going

[00:25:19] on in

[00:25:20] the world.

[00:25:21] And I'm like,

[00:25:22] I'm

[00:25:23] like,

[00:25:24] wow,

[00:25:25] that's

[00:25:26] really

[00:25:27] powerful.

[00:25:28] And it's

[00:25:29] still echoes.

[00:25:30] And I'm

[00:25:31] like, that's

[00:25:32] perfect.

[00:25:33] No, actually,

[00:25:34] it was

[00:25:35] Rambo

[00:25:36] 3

[00:25:37] was a

[00:25:38] reflection

[00:25:39] of

[00:25:40] the Ukraine

[00:25:41] War.

[00:25:42] Literally.

[00:25:43] Kind of.

[00:25:44] Yeah.

[00:25:45] And I was

[00:25:46] like, damn,

[00:25:47] that's

[00:25:48] 80s.

[00:25:49] And they're literally

[00:25:50] foretelling what the

[00:25:51] fuck would happen

[00:25:52] in Ukraine.

[00:25:53] Like,

[00:25:54] yeah.

[00:25:55] At half

[00:25:56] the different

[00:25:57] races

[00:25:58] on all these

[00:25:59] shows,

[00:26:00] I always thought

[00:26:01] kind of growing

[00:26:02] up, they were

[00:26:03] kind of Bosnian

[00:26:04] and Serbian.

[00:26:05] And nowadays,

[00:26:06] I'd say Israel

[00:26:07] and Palestine.

[00:26:08] What would you

[00:26:09] say?

[00:26:10] Jakar is

[00:26:11] more pacifist,

[00:26:12] but he's

[00:26:13] more

[00:26:14] martyr pacifist

[00:26:15] that's

[00:26:16] the Gibson season

[00:26:17] and

[00:26:18] he's

[00:26:19] more

[00:26:20] of a

[00:26:21] pacifist.

[00:26:22] Yeah.

[00:26:23] He's

[00:26:24] kind of

[00:26:25] a, I'd

[00:26:26] say he's

[00:26:27] someone who's

[00:26:28] not the

[00:26:29] United Nations,

[00:26:30] but he's

[00:26:31] kind of

[00:26:32] he's prideful,

[00:26:33] but he's

[00:26:34] going to

[00:26:35] fire the

[00:26:36] last gun

[00:26:37] if this

[00:26:38] protest becomes

[00:26:39] a riot.

[00:26:40] So

[00:26:41] kind of

[00:26:42] he's

[00:26:43] definitely

[00:26:44] in that

[00:26:45] gray area

[00:26:46] of

[00:26:47] the

[00:26:48] you know,

[00:26:49] when you

[00:26:50] see Jakar

[00:26:51] at the beginning,

[00:26:52] he comes across as

[00:26:53] the villain.

[00:26:54] He's the

[00:26:55] lizard looking

[00:26:56] guy with

[00:26:57] the red eyes

[00:26:58] and he wants

[00:26:59] to crush

[00:27:00] the

[00:27:01] sentarion

[00:27:02] bones into

[00:27:03] dust.

[00:27:04] He's the good

[00:27:05] guy, right?

[00:27:06] Oh, they're

[00:27:07] both kind of

[00:27:08] been,

[00:27:09] both their

[00:27:10] races have

[00:27:11] been really

[00:27:12] bad to

[00:27:13] each other.

[00:27:14] I like

[00:27:15] the

[00:27:16] way

[00:27:17] they

[00:27:18] were

[00:27:19] the

[00:27:20] last drivers,

[00:27:21] you know,

[00:27:22] and when

[00:27:23] they did

[00:27:24] it and

[00:27:25] there was

[00:27:26] a thing that

[00:27:27] the actor

[00:27:28] goes,

[00:27:29] you know,

[00:27:30] we have

[00:27:31] been

[00:27:32] slaves before

[00:27:33] and we

[00:27:34] beat them

[00:27:35] before.

[00:27:36] And the

[00:27:37] actor does

[00:27:38] that.

[00:27:39] You know,

[00:27:40] I remember when

[00:27:41] I saw

[00:27:42] what movie

[00:27:43] he's in the

[00:27:44] season that

[00:27:45] was.

[00:27:46] He was

[00:27:47] Tomaloc.

[00:27:48] He was the

[00:27:49] recurring

[00:27:50] Romulan bad guy.

[00:27:51] Would keep

[00:27:52] taunting him.

[00:27:53] You know,

[00:27:54] what's funny

[00:27:55] is half of his

[00:27:56] appearances

[00:27:57] are like

[00:27:58] fictitious,

[00:27:59] like holograms

[00:28:00] or different

[00:28:01] like alterations.

[00:28:02] So half

[00:28:03] of the time you

[00:28:04] see him is not

[00:28:05] even the

[00:28:06] real Tomaloc,

[00:28:07] which is

[00:28:08] amusing as hell.

[00:28:09] But we were

[00:28:10] saying about

[00:28:11] like the

[00:28:12] series touching

[00:28:13] today.

[00:28:14] And I mean,

[00:28:15] that's the gold of

[00:28:16] the show,

[00:28:17] right?

[00:28:18] It has some very

[00:28:19] prescient things to say,

[00:28:20] but it's the

[00:28:21] age old stuff of,

[00:28:22] you know,

[00:28:23] if you're a

[00:28:24] student of

[00:28:25] history or

[00:28:26] student of

[00:28:27] society and

[00:28:28] behaviors,

[00:28:29] these things

[00:28:30] recur,

[00:28:31] these things go on.

[00:28:32] The language used

[00:28:33] for,

[00:28:34] say,

[00:28:35] fascism and the

[00:28:36] ideology behind it.

[00:28:37] Sometimes,

[00:28:38] you know,

[00:28:39] it will still be

[00:28:40] the same,

[00:28:41] same thing.

[00:28:42] Telepaths as

[00:28:43] examples of

[00:28:44] things as

[00:28:45] well.

[00:28:46] And for myself

[00:28:47] too,

[00:28:48] another thing that I

[00:28:49] love about B5 is

[00:28:50] in that

[00:28:51] era in

[00:28:52] particular,

[00:28:53] and I think it's

[00:28:54] still applicable now

[00:28:55] for science fiction

[00:28:56] television,

[00:28:57] I think for most

[00:28:58] people,

[00:28:59] it's Star Trek.

[00:29:00] Like Star Trek is

[00:29:01] the big

[00:29:02] thing that looms

[00:29:03] large.

[00:29:04] It's always going to be

[00:29:05] the thing that

[00:29:06] when you're in a

[00:29:07] conversation about

[00:29:08] sci-fi TV,

[00:29:09] eventually you'll say,

[00:29:10] oh, this reminds

[00:29:11] me of Star Trek.

[00:29:12] But I love about

[00:29:13] Babylon 5 is

[00:29:14] it does things

[00:29:15] that Star Trek

[00:29:16] didn't do.

[00:29:17] Especially in

[00:29:18] Grisaille,

[00:29:19] where they got

[00:29:20] an atomic computer

[00:29:21] that the

[00:29:22] Gideon guy

[00:29:23] was facing off with.

[00:29:24] I'm like,

[00:29:25] that is

[00:29:26] Trek if it had

[00:29:27] even more stones.

[00:29:28] Yeah, exactly.

[00:29:29] But we have,

[00:29:30] in this series,

[00:29:31] we have people

[00:29:32] with addiction

[00:29:33] issues.

[00:29:34] We have people

[00:29:35] who are

[00:29:36] religious and

[00:29:37] not religious

[00:29:38] in a nebulous

[00:29:39] way,

[00:29:40] but in a

[00:29:41] very personal

[00:29:42] one.

[00:29:43] Sinclair was

[00:29:44] a Jesuit,

[00:29:45] Avon over

[00:29:46] is Jewish,

[00:29:47] Garibaldi's

[00:29:48] agnostic,

[00:29:49] and Dr.

[00:29:50] Franklin has

[00:29:51] his own little

[00:29:52] religion that he

[00:29:53] has that's

[00:29:54] an extension of

[00:29:55] a sci-fi concept

[00:29:56] in this series.

[00:29:57] And then we have

[00:29:58] all of the

[00:29:59] aliens and then

[00:30:00] religion.

[00:30:01] Yeah,

[00:30:02] Jakar became a

[00:30:03] Huston leader

[00:30:04] himself.

[00:30:05] It actually means

[00:30:06] something.

[00:30:07] Yeah.

[00:30:08] Yeah.

[00:30:09] I think

[00:30:10] the

[00:30:11] Hothorian

[00:30:12] knight kind of

[00:30:13] inspired Arthur

[00:30:14] Pendragon visit

[00:30:15] and they

[00:30:16] decide to

[00:30:17] fight all these

[00:30:18] dark forces

[00:30:19] in season

[00:30:20] three,

[00:30:21] played by

[00:30:22] Michael

[00:30:23] York from

[00:30:24] Logan's

[00:30:25] run in

[00:30:26] Austin Powers.

[00:30:27] And I was

[00:30:28] like,

[00:30:29] Oh yeah.

[00:30:30] I just love

[00:30:31] how he's

[00:30:32] for whatever

[00:30:33] reason,

[00:30:34] he's not

[00:30:35] easily swayed

[00:30:36] by anyone.

[00:30:37] And this

[00:30:38] is

[00:30:39] the

[00:30:40] first time

[00:30:41] I've

[00:30:42] seen this

[00:30:43] in a

[00:30:44] movie.

[00:30:45] I

[00:30:46] was like,

[00:30:47] Holy crap.

[00:30:48] That's good.

[00:30:49] I just want to add

[00:30:50] this in.

[00:30:51] First of all,

[00:30:52] Nightwatch when

[00:30:53] I win after

[00:30:54] 9 11,

[00:30:55] I was like,

[00:30:56] Oh, here comes

[00:30:57] nightwatch and

[00:30:58] my watch.

[00:30:59] Like, what are you

[00:31:00] talking about?

[00:31:01] And another

[00:31:02] connection.

[00:31:03] I put this

[00:31:04] in the chat

[00:31:05] so I could

[00:31:06] get it out there.

[00:31:07] And I was like,

[00:31:08] okay, this is

[00:31:09] like giving

[00:31:10] Terminator vibes and

[00:31:11] you know,

[00:31:12] and then he

[00:31:13] reused stock

[00:31:14] footage of

[00:31:15] the

[00:31:16] destroyed

[00:31:17] cities in

[00:31:18] one episode

[00:31:19] Babylon 5.

[00:31:20] Oh, I had

[00:31:21] no idea.

[00:31:22] Yeah.

[00:31:23] It's like second

[00:31:24] season.

[00:31:25] I was like,

[00:31:26] Oh yeah.

[00:31:27] Plus real

[00:31:28] Ghostbusters.

[00:31:29] Exactly.

[00:31:30] I was like,

[00:31:31] wait a minute.

[00:31:32] That's from

[00:31:33] Captain Power.

[00:31:34] That's like supposed to

[00:31:35] be one of the

[00:31:36] Captain Power

[00:31:37] references in

[00:31:38] Babylon 5.

[00:31:39] And I'm like,

[00:31:40] well, I got you there,

[00:31:41] buddy, you know,

[00:31:42] kind of thing.

[00:31:43] So not that Captain

[00:31:44] Power is really

[00:31:45] remembered by almost

[00:31:46] anyone, but

[00:31:47] it's just

[00:31:48] I used to have a

[00:31:49] red lunchbox of that.

[00:31:50] Well, I respect you,

[00:31:51] sir.

[00:31:52] You're cool

[00:31:53] in my book.

[00:31:54] That would have been

[00:31:55] made up.

[00:31:56] I forwarded the

[00:31:57] DVD to some other

[00:31:58] Star Trek by

[00:31:59] Guzzlers.

[00:32:00] I hope they

[00:32:01] actually watched it.

[00:32:02] It was about

[00:32:03] $80 for me to

[00:32:04] get a copy on eBay.

[00:32:05] That's not

[00:32:06] that's not bad.

[00:32:07] It's not bad

[00:32:08] compared to what it

[00:32:09] could be, but I'm like,

[00:32:10] what was $80?

[00:32:11] I'm sorry.

[00:32:12] What was $80?

[00:32:13] Captain Power

[00:32:14] show that

[00:32:15] JMS worked on

[00:32:16] that will was

[00:32:17] referencing and

[00:32:18] don't get me wrong.

[00:32:19] I mean, both

[00:32:20] are kind of two sides

[00:32:21] of the same coin

[00:32:22] kind of in a way

[00:32:23] where they're just

[00:32:24] taking the best

[00:32:25] elements from all this

[00:32:26] other thing.

[00:32:27] And you don't feel

[00:32:28] it doesn't feel

[00:32:29] derivative.

[00:32:30] It feels like

[00:32:31] someone who wanted

[00:32:32] to make a kick ass,

[00:32:33] you know,

[00:32:34] storyline show.

[00:32:36] With Captain

[00:32:37] Power from the

[00:32:38] little I've seen of it

[00:32:39] too, you get some

[00:32:40] characters or some

[00:32:41] character types

[00:32:42] that feel like

[00:32:43] they're the lead

[00:32:44] up to people

[00:32:45] we'll get in B5.

[00:32:47] Yeah.

[00:32:48] Yeah.

[00:32:49] And, you know, you

[00:32:50] get like the

[00:32:51] the headstrong

[00:32:52] badass lady

[00:32:53] in power type

[00:32:54] role and then

[00:32:55] you get a

[00:32:56] Vodava in B5

[00:32:57] and that's

[00:32:58] another thing

[00:32:59] too that's

[00:33:00] greatly loved

[00:33:01] about B5 is

[00:33:02] you get

[00:33:03] you have all of

[00:33:04] these wide

[00:33:05] array of characters

[00:33:06] that change

[00:33:07] but they're

[00:33:08] funny and they're

[00:33:09] stoic at the same time

[00:33:10] and I know

[00:33:11] too when

[00:33:12] I was growing up

[00:33:13] a Vodava was my

[00:33:14] favorite character

[00:33:15] as well.

[00:33:16] She was like

[00:33:17] the no-nonsense

[00:33:18] lady.

[00:33:19] She doesn't have

[00:33:20] time for

[00:33:21] bullshit

[00:33:22] Deanna Troy

[00:33:23] romance plots

[00:33:24] and she

[00:33:25] actually has

[00:33:26] a very

[00:33:27] human under

[00:33:28] like we have a

[00:33:29] very human

[00:33:30] understanding of

[00:33:31] why she can

[00:33:32] do that.

[00:33:33] And I think

[00:33:34] that's a

[00:33:35] really good

[00:33:36] thing to

[00:33:37] hear about

[00:33:38] and I think

[00:33:39] that's

[00:33:40] a really

[00:33:41] good thing

[00:33:42] to hear about

[00:33:43] things with

[00:33:44] her father

[00:33:45] and her

[00:33:46] backstory

[00:33:47] and her

[00:33:48] mother

[00:33:49] and all of

[00:33:50] the stuff

[00:33:51] is just

[00:33:52] and that

[00:33:53] performance

[00:33:54] is really

[00:33:55] really good

[00:33:56] and as

[00:33:57] the show

[00:33:58] gets going

[00:33:59] too we

[00:34:00] get even

[00:34:01] more

[00:34:02] into the

[00:34:03] B.J.R.

[00:34:04] and

[00:34:05] the

[00:34:06] B.J.R.

[00:34:07] is back

[00:34:08] baby

[00:34:09] .

[00:34:10] And

[00:34:11] another

[00:34:12] I mean

[00:34:13] there's so

[00:34:14] many great

[00:34:15] little details

[00:34:16] too like

[00:34:17] when I was

[00:34:18] you know watching

[00:34:19] this

[00:34:20] you know obviously

[00:34:21] the C.G.I.

[00:34:22] is a point

[00:34:23] of contention

[00:34:24] for people

[00:34:25] nowadays but

[00:34:26] I was

[00:34:27] appreciated that

[00:34:28] this show

[00:34:29] didn't hold

[00:34:30] on space

[00:34:31] battles like

[00:34:32] you know they never

[00:34:33] held back on

[00:34:34] space battles I would give you all these really inventive crazy cool things like different camera angles and the movement and stuff like when a shadow ship versus a non ship it's actually an event that happens and I'm like yeah well a lot of other shows

[00:34:47] maybe

[00:34:48] Star Trek guys I think they work so well because they

[00:34:51] they're staging it just like they would an actual like tactical like SWAT team

[00:34:56] or doctor show just coverage show was going around the console and now everyone's losing their shit

[00:35:02] you know

[00:35:05] but yeah in the beginning when Sheridan first has to take command from the other captain who's just fallen during the first Earth and Mimbari war I think that is the

[00:35:15] just a wonderful battle because he's having to lay out landmines

[00:35:19] and

[00:35:20] and

[00:35:21] there's an ambush at his presidential swearing in ceremony in season five that I think is pretty hip it's like that's how you kick off a season

[00:35:31] and

[00:35:33] Corsade

[00:35:35] when

[00:35:36] when they were spinning off that

[00:35:39] and they had that new giant ship the Excalibur that's you know we've been half tested and they're fighting the Drake I thought a lot of those battles were neat and gave Star Wars run for its money but

[00:35:50] even the call to arms movie where there's a lot of actors in that movie that are later on the TV show 24 so that's kind of a fun nod Tony Almeida is being literally bust around Sheridan but I love how

[00:36:06] just that final shot when they're like holy shit Earth is going to get you know pulverized by this disease

[00:36:14] and then it gets canceled

[00:36:16] yeah

[00:36:17] yeah

[00:36:18] my favorite B5 movie is third space

[00:36:22] that's a good one too especially when that and JMS said that he was inspired by Forbidden Planet and a bunch of those other alien movies I love how it's kind of controlling every every other person's mind and so as a result they're not only sending fighter jets to fight the alien force outside but they're having to stop a lot of protests and riots

[00:36:43] yeah and fight people that they know

[00:36:46] so yeah not a protest but I love how the chief of security is like oh we do not have enough people

[00:36:54] Zach yeah yeah I love Zach because that also has a very lovecraft feel that that episode that movie and I love one of my favorite characters in the show now is Zach Allen I love Zach Allen he's probably in my top five I love him because he's just an amazing guy

[00:37:13] he's a schmuck he's just a guy he's just like he's like yeah but his character he's very much like hey I didn't want I had no ambitions I was just a guy who wanted to keep his head down and get a little bit of money and I love him in third space when he's having to face off against

[00:37:26] all of this sci-fi exposition about like Lovecraftian horror from another dimension and he has this look on his face of like that's not what I'm here for I don't give a shit about

[00:37:34] I know that's right

[00:37:37] you don't even know who I am I'm just a guy I'm not here to be involved in a big sci-fi Lovecraft plot I'm just here to clear my god

[00:37:45] he has Selita out on a date which is kind of both amusing and pathetic

[00:37:50] oh yeah oh speaking of that Garibaldi and the blonde actually had a moment together in the price of peace comment that was funny

[00:38:01] really? Taliah?

[00:38:04] oh the gal from Mars yeah that's right

[00:38:07] yeah yeah

[00:38:10] the Mars raid is so well done too oh my god

[00:38:13] that's as Captain Power as it gets there when they are having to kind of go into all those switch boards and kind of just do a guns that never own kind of raid

[00:38:21] yeah they were having they were watching a movie they were watching Looney Tunes and popcorn together I was like that's so fucking cute

[00:38:31] Garibaldi had Looney Tunes wasn't it Daffy Duck in the back of his head?

[00:38:38] yeah he had a lot of Daffy Duck merchandise

[00:38:43] being a Warner Brothers production you got to use a lot of those

[00:38:49] he had the big Daffy Duck poster but also in the bathroom he had like a soap dispenser of Daffy Duck's head he had a lot of little details like that in his room

[00:38:58] I love those things too like with set design you would have Sheridan's oranges where in the first episode he comes in he's like ah golly gee I'm just so hungry for fresh fruit and oranges

[00:39:08] I can't wait and then every single episode there's going to be an orange in there there's going to be orange juice he's going to be doing something with oranges it's like oh it's his quarters

[00:39:18] they commit to the characters and they remember their quirks instead of just having a one off where you're like what happened

[00:39:25] and we have Sheridan the coke dealer

[00:39:29] oh wait when is that?

[00:39:32] I forget I think it was season 3 or 4 where he's dressed like a coke dealer he's got the he had a purple suit he had the goatee and the hair and I'm like he's dealing fucking coke at bowling alley again

[00:39:48] oh yeah that would be like season 5 probably that was goatee Sheridan year round

[00:39:54] yeah I love that look I love that look on him he looks like a coke dealer

[00:40:00] he really does anytime they're dressing up or just waking up in bed you feel the sounds of humanity that other shows would not have

[00:40:11] and the way him and Dillon grew together that was so beautiful

[00:40:17] his look on his face when he realized oh you made yourself more human looking

[00:40:21] and that's also talked about in the price of peace that that comic ties into the transformation

[00:40:29] yeah I know all of them comics

[00:40:33] when they have to fight the earth forces

[00:40:37] season 4 going back to your earlier points guys that was so well filmed just tracking around you feel the tension in the room

[00:40:44] there's a bunch of character actors one of them I know was one of the douchey doctors on scrubs and I love that

[00:40:50] yeah Ken Jenkins is a good actor but man

[00:40:54] Captain Trevor Hall he's great

[00:40:58] that makes me think of I always wondered in that episode no surrender no treats

[00:41:04] he is in a captain's chair on his ship and he looks so small in it he looks like a little child in that scene

[00:41:11] I wondered why and I think it's because most of the cast in Babylon 5 are freakishly tall

[00:41:19] every prop and thing is designed for tall people like for instance Bruce Boxlightner is 6'3

[00:41:26] back then and so Jerry Doyle is around the same height as him too and like the women like Claudia Christian was fairly tall for a woman

[00:41:34] and Michael O'Hare was tall like a lot of the cast were tall people so everything is made for tall people so when a normal sized person comes in

[00:41:42] and has to interact with these props they look like children next to them it's just such a funny little detail that exists in the behind the scenes

[00:41:52] because yeah you fall down that rabbit hole because I listen to some of the commentary tracks and you know when you get the cast and they're just talking about that stuff

[00:41:59] Bruce Boxlightner will casually say like yeah you know I'm 6'3 I'm 6'3 and he's like oh of course you are I guess

[00:42:07] great rules on those discs too oh my god

[00:42:13] but yeah there's with the show too it's always difficult to sell people on getting into it because you're like watch the gathering

[00:42:22] one of the most boring slow plotting

[00:42:27] paste and toned things you will ever see but it will matter later I mean it matters later because J'Kar and Lita reference the pleasure thresholds right near the end of the show again so it's worth it for that

[00:42:37] but it's hard to get people to try something

[00:42:42] it's hard to get people to try something

[00:42:46] it's hard to get people to try something

[00:42:52] there's been a bunch of shows I really begged people you need to watch this this is one of the best shows of all time

[00:42:58] one of my pals has refused to get through the show he's like whoever made the set designs on this show should be shot I'm like dude come on it's a little bit

[00:43:05] $1.50 at the beginning there give them a break

[00:43:07] it's also hard to be like you because we know how great the show is and how great it turns out for season to season season but it's like tell someone okay you guys sit through 22 episodes

[00:43:18] some are great some are decent most of them are decent but then yet but then it'll get really really good after 22 hours

[00:43:26] especially like you already have made up your mind about which side you're on it leaves it to the viewers idea but like when when they have that Narn riot

[00:43:34] and some of those other side core guys have taken over the security and they're kind of doing war crimes and Zach and company and Gerovold you're having to kind of find ways to knock them out or arrest them

[00:43:45] but the side core in general I mean they're they're the estapo and I sometimes use that with B5 guys

[00:43:53] and I love that scene and just having Walter Conan you know Chekhov himself you know being kind of the main face of that that was a cool it allowed him to kind of stretch his range as an actor but I love how he's like teaching a rookie on one episode

[00:44:09] and then he just spaces out another guy yeah yeah that's his last one ruthlessness is like see you're just you're no different than the victims you take over I don't need you anymore

[00:44:18] I'm like that is cool. Yeah he was on the shovel pot show and talked about his role on you know I have to check it out I love that podcast I love that too and it's I love that I clean my bathrooms every Sunday and listen to that show I'll be honest

[00:44:35] it's cuz well yeah it's on my shortlist every week anyway he was talking about and they mentioned him like that please talk about B5 please talk about B5 I remember when you came on the show on B5 I'm like oh okay it's Chekhov and I was like oh

[00:44:50] and I was like oh oh it's not Chekhov yeah no more nuclear space missiles yeah no

[00:45:00] of course he's short and of course you got him up now that makes sense because I remember the way they shot it you know he's very short and thanks for that I wondered how tall some of those people were and I remember that but he had this twinkle in his eye I'm like who is this person and it's just dark

[00:45:14] weird yeah fantastic acting is this a quirk or is it part of the actors? It's an actor who sadly in their career of TV and film have never gotten the chance to show off their acting range be able to show off their acting range because again I also think of him as Chekhov the funny one you know

[00:45:36] the guy got the new comedy but he didn't really get as much and he's just like ah he needs more if he had been on the twilight zone in the 80s he would have really flourished a lot I could see it as a soviet girl going

[00:45:55] JMS worked on the twilight zone in the 80s that would have been a neat little piece of business there too but I mean Walter Koenig he's so effortless as best he's arguably the best villain in the show best baddie in the show because he understands him and how he's fun to watch because he knows he's brainwashing all these other poor bastards

[00:46:22] he doesn't care and at the same time I mean once he's defeated he kind of just goes back into the line work he's like I'm awaiting you know reassignment

[00:46:34] his fate is actually revealed in a book oh that's right fuck I read about that but I love in the show in the show what I appreciate about best there is he starts off as a cop with delusions of grandeur and then he ends the show as a cop with delusions of grandeur who thinks he's very very important like he's a character that does a lot but also doesn't move that much forward

[00:47:03] because at the end of the day he's like Hawkeye in Avengers he doesn't really do much yeah like in the confines of the show he's just a cop within the cycle that they send to do jobs I love the running gag of him having to roll his eyes when he's superior telling him he has to go to Babylon 5 he's like oh not again and he tells them I do have a life outside of this station you know

[00:47:28] oh especially when he gets captured he's like I didn't expect that from you are you sure you want to put your hands on me I could reprimand you in a heartbeat but once he knows that the other times he does cat and mouse games with Sheridan I do love how he's like oh he's not backing down I'm just going to see where this goes maybe he can use me and I can gain his trust and take over his station

[00:47:53] do you have my usual quarters of the brig nice and ready for me I do miss them he wants the seat nice and warm yeah oh that was a great gag too and when you get to see him sit in the captain's chair on the white star just to rub it in is like yeah and then just just Sheridan coming over give you that look of like what's going on here get the hell out of my chair it's like finally Walter got to sit in the captain's chair there you go I would tie that in with him going to the shadows get the hell out of our galaxy

[00:48:23] get the hell out of my chair I must mention the legend of the Rangers I would have seen that show too and it didn't take off I get it why the movie is infamous it came out while there was an NFL playoff so it was lowly rated and the holographic fighting was kind of mox but I actually like that captain they chose and how he does a lot of psychological mind games and I thought had there been more of that

[00:48:52] that would have probably been a two season show that could have lasted a while but it was not to be said there's a lot of stuff in the five that could be explored and spin off so you could have a sideboard series I'm just glad that guy to the reunions

[00:49:07] the reunions like that was a good because I think it's his name is like Dylan Neal or something like that he's another Canadian actor you've seen in a million things almost always playing a baddie of the week and I'm just like see that would have been a cool role for him because

[00:49:25] yeah I appreciate with the with the cast and crew of B5 it's nice that they seem pretty tight knit especially since we've lost so many of them you know like it's a shocking amount but you know you don't you watch any of these convention footage and it's like look they even got Corwin they got Corwin here who's been in the whole show it's just guy on the bridge you know who's nice

[00:49:52] the guy with the headset and I like I always light up when I see him on a CBS show because if there's anything we know TV people love working with other famous TV people yes and before David McCallum died he I mean he was in a good B5 episode as a scientist with a

[00:50:08] with a creature and it was a cool kind of just universal homage I thought that episode but I loved how I saw him on an NCIS episode recently like his final one and the way he was talking my mom and I were both like oh he is totally referencing his man from uncle character

[00:50:24] but of course as one of those for the hardcore people who've been watching TV since you know day one yeah there's a lot of the nerds out there the sci-fi nerds are going to get a lot of those character actors that pop up like Roy Dautrice as Mr. Lance in the season 2 finale the one who's like I'm on Peace in our Times where he's basically playing his character from Space 1999

[00:50:48] right exact same type of bureaucrat and you get a whole slew hence you get Walter Koenig as sci-fi royalty just pop up in the first season and then you get to meet the rest of the show yeah and there are some actors who have gone on to do some interesting things like everyone you all remember Byron right of course you remember Byron everyone's favorite character

[00:51:14] that actor Robin Atkin Downs is like probably the one with the most successful career post B5

[00:51:24] I always liked him yeah he's a good voice actor and he does a lot of voice acting and creatures feature work

[00:51:30] I really don't get why that character is hated but it's just me

[00:51:34] well he speaks annoyingly is my reason

[00:51:37] I guess so

[00:51:38] I think just jealous of his hair I mean he had gorgeous hair we can't take that away from him

[00:51:43] yeah reminds me of Julian Sands in the warlock but I will give you the sex scene between him and Byron is kind of

[00:51:50] Byron and Leda they fucked it's true

[00:51:53] I know but the way it's done you're like did I just turn on late night HBO

[00:51:58] what's going on here

[00:52:00] Amazing scenes

[00:52:02] He's in a bunch he was even in the Orville

[00:52:05] He does like creature feature work as well as also as boxlender then they're all underneath heavy makeup and you're like see this is the ultimate love letter

[00:52:15] yeah now Bruce gets to know what it was like for the alien actors to be in the makeup and of course Bill Mooney did the show too

[00:52:21] Lost in Space

[00:52:23] yeah total tribute to him in a way and I also have Claudia Christian's unpublished B5 books if anyone wants a copy

[00:52:32] Oh

[00:52:39] Of course we have a little house on the prairie reference with B5

[00:52:42] yeah Melissa Gilbert right

[00:52:47] yeah Melissa Gilbert who fun little fact

[00:52:52] There's in season five there's the character of Lord Jarno who's Londo's good dear friend who gets brutally killed and that actor he was he's married to Bruce Boxlight

[00:53:05] his first wife not Melissa Gilbert but his first wife who that wife introduced Melissa Gilbert to Bruce Boxlight

[00:53:14] so

[00:53:16] I like how they would work some of that in like when Lockly first comes on the bridge

[00:53:21] you instantly are told oh yeah we and Sheridan we know each other

[00:53:26] how

[00:53:28] just wink

[00:53:30] yeah that's the thing too on my rewatch I'm really loving Lockly as a character

[00:53:36] I don't understand why she's hated

[00:53:39] it's because we all love a vulnerable

[00:53:41] you know like people just because they don't like season five

[00:53:45] and we left her on one of the most tragic notes you could leave her on and then it's like and now he's a new lady who's also a no-nonsense brunette with a tied back ponytail who also has a possibly bisexual relationship with a blonde head woman

[00:53:59] it's like I can understand why Lockly I've not liked Lockly in the past but I've always loved Tracy Skokin's performance

[00:54:07] and loving Lockly in this watch

[00:54:09] I like her in everything she's a funny movie actress

[00:54:12] I've always pictured her back in the day of Claudia Curtis just punching her agent in the face

[00:54:17] back in whatever year that was

[00:54:19] I mean it was kind of what they did with Andrea Thompson it was just kind of one of those just like

[00:54:24] he always said I have a literal trap door for every character

[00:54:27] so I think while you could yes make the argument that JMS was in Dick Wolf territory and could have just differentiated them a bit more

[00:54:37] I don't think I mean I feel like they differentiate the character enough

[00:54:41] but I can see I feel like a lot of people just want to harp on it just as an excuse to hate the entire season when there's still some fun stuff in there

[00:54:50] For real that's like the last season there's nothing else after that besides the movies of Crusade

[00:54:56] Right it ended after season 4 I'm like well I want to see the characters get married

[00:55:00] It's like I need to know what happens to them tell me please we have books about that

[00:55:05] I wish I watched the final episode instead of just acting like oh it's unwatchable

[00:55:09] I mean there's a funny episode which reminds me of a few Star Wars comics where they have just a random day for maintenance guys on the station and it just cracks me up the whole thing

[00:55:19] Yeah that's the closest Harlan Ellison got to writing a script that was a story by Harlan Ellison

[00:55:27] because he was on the series as like a creative consultant he did a few acting roles too

[00:55:32] Oh yeah you get his cynicism so much half the time

[00:55:35] Oh yeah because he was also he did a few acting roles on B5 like he was the voice of the remember when the ship got the station activated the previous AI Sparky the AI who just kept talking

[00:55:47] And of course he was the voice of Zootie and Rebone Zootie with of course Penn and Teller as Rebone Zootie

[00:55:54] Oh yeah that was a good episode too it reminds me of their West Wing episode where they play a fictional version of themselves that accidentally insults a diplomat and same kind of vibe

[00:56:04] Now can anyone answer to me what the ending of that episode even means?

[00:56:10] Because they do like a prank and a bunch of other Easter eggs and like at the end Penn says oh he did this one trick it explains this soup he makes I'm like what? It never made any sense to me

[00:56:25] That's the humor of Penn Gillette for you

[00:56:28] I guess I'm like what's going on

[00:56:31] Very goofy

[00:56:33] But no the the the

[00:56:36] Each season of B5 has their titular episode the one that the season is named after right?

[00:56:44] Yeah

[00:56:45] And each one of those episodes is always a treat

[00:56:48] That's something that I love about the construction of the show too though not many shows I know of

[00:56:54] Especially if this variety have has that little gimmick to it as well it's like oh by the way this season named after this episode like this season one it's science importance that's a big episode look out for it

[00:57:07] And so you do and it's a big episode and it's exciting and then you get that going forward and going on and it's always been like a thing that I've appreciated about B5 is like it has its big episodes like it lets you know which ones are like the coming of shadows

[00:57:21] Like it trains you like shadow is an important word for us so if there's an episode with that in it it must be important but then it will lure you into a sense of security and then say ah and this one's just called interludes and examinations should just be an easy going time nothing will happen here

[00:57:38] I've just had a silly episode with Via so it should be easy going oh what's that Kosh got brutally murdered and Lando is entering his villain era

[00:57:47] Whoops

[00:57:51] There's so many times where you want to punch Kosh and you're like what is this guy tell me what's going on

[00:57:57] He's so he has that mystique that can't be replicated honestly like you can have it with different characters but you can't really replicate that lightning in the bottle and his whole presence is just there like you want to know you know he knows a lot and he won't tell you anything

[00:58:23] Yeah he's a lot like you only less boosters

[00:58:28] He reminds me always a little of the dungeon master from the D&D animated you know how he would take things and be like what that's always your mind but I'll never forget when Sheridan goes tell me how the skin in and he goes in fire and I was like as a kid I was like oh shit yeah that just got bad who did the voice of Kosh by the way

[00:58:47] I don't remember his name I just looked him up actually an hour ago he's a giant anime

[00:58:52] The actor is Ard White Chamberlain he does a lot of anime not just voice work but he does a lot of script writing for anime production for anime so that's where he lives primarily and it's funny because he does a lot of when he does voice work he does a lot of voices for like young children

[00:59:12] So he has a higher voice so doing the Kosh stuff is cool you have all this modulation I think JMS said too that after a certain point JMS would sit with Ard White and direct him on how to do some of these lines because he needed Kosh to eventually have a personality a bit more because in the first season he's just yeah he's very robotic in a lot of ways he's just very blunt to a funny degree I love Kosh like just simple voice work

[00:59:42] They're a dying race we should let them pass and it's like who's a dying race? A Centauri or non? Yes

[00:59:51] And you see some of these shows that illustrate that they were inspired by V5 and I'm like see but V5 is kind of to me more like X-Files where I'm along for the surprises

[01:00:03] Exactly

[01:00:06] Compared to other ones where they're just making it up as they go along you know I'm looking at Heroes and Lost where it's like

[01:00:12] Oh you stole yeah Heroes and Lost and Fringe yeah those ones I love Kosh

[01:00:20] I love the second Kosh the purple one who's more of a prick

[01:00:25] I love the second Kosh because he doesn't do riddles he just says straight up what he thinks and what he thinks is mean

[01:00:36] You have had three seasons of truth is a three edged sword yeah yeah yeah okay thanks Kosh

[01:00:43] And then this Kosh comes along and says respect you haven't earned respect and is like oh

[01:00:49] I have a specific day

[01:00:51] Oh boy

[01:00:53] So how many people have gone past two?

[01:00:55] What do you mean?

[01:00:57] We only have three

[01:00:59] No

[01:01:01] Oh the penis

[01:01:03] I think we've seen every season so I'm not sure what two number are you saying there's a character who's a number two?

[01:01:11] No well there's six you know six things

[01:01:15] There's six

[01:01:17] The production say there's four lives so what we're talking about

[01:01:19] Santari have six

[01:01:21] Oh

[01:01:23] And Veer has only been to two so

[01:01:25] He's only gotten to two

[01:01:27] So yeah anyone else gotten past two?

[01:01:29] By the way this show has a lot of virgins in it by the way Linnea, Veer, Marcus is the most unbelievable

[01:01:37] Come on

[01:01:39] The moon faced assassin of joy

[01:01:41] Yeah I didn't get the Marcus thing either

[01:01:46] You know he was supposed to be this punk kid before he joined the Rangers

[01:01:52] He didn't get laid? Stop

[01:01:54] You're looking with that accent?

[01:01:57] The hair? Come on

[01:01:59] Yeah the hair, the accent, the beard come on

[01:02:01] Even I'm smooth, I'm straight and even I'm smooth a little

[01:02:03] Ooh Marcus

[01:02:07] You know no one's that straight honey

[01:02:09] Except for Franklin

[01:02:11] Except for Franklin

[01:02:13] Who's like I am not

[01:02:15] I could do better than you

[01:02:17] I am not a crook

[01:02:19] 20 credits is 20 credits so

[01:02:21] Why do people hate Franklin so much?

[01:02:23] I find him great

[01:02:25] I love Franklin but I love his relationship with Marcus where they have to pretend to be the married couple on Mars

[01:02:31] That was funny yeah

[01:02:33] That was funny but I love how Richard Bigg plays it

[01:02:35] Instead of it being like gay panic or whatever he plays it as

[01:02:39] Oh come on, Marcus? I could do better than Marcus

[01:02:43] You think people would believe that me, Dr. Franklin would be married to this loser?

[01:02:47] Because at that point Marcus has driven him up the wall with I Spy for like 20 hours straight

[01:02:53] Marcus is the most annoying man of all time

[01:02:57] And I love that Avada Veta tells Franklin hey be careful, Marcus can be a lot

[01:03:02] He's like hey I've hung out with Marcus he's alright

[01:03:04] And then at the end of that journey he's like Marcus stinks I hate that guy

[01:03:08] He's so annoying

[01:03:12] Ah man

[01:03:14] And then yeah we've got a whole array of characters

[01:03:19] Some that stay, some that don't

[01:03:21] And even the ones that don't make it all the way through

[01:03:24] Or even just when you look back in a handful of episodes

[01:03:29] Can still be as developed and as well realized as some main characters in the show or other shows

[01:03:35] I mean Julie Caitlin Brown as Natoth in the first season

[01:03:40] She's maybe in four episodes of the show

[01:03:43] Yeah she and Dakar's bodyguard play by Roadhouse and Marshall Teague

[01:03:47] Same deal, they're very charismatic

[01:03:52] Even the minor actors who you look up their credits

[01:03:55] And they really don't have anything except soap operas, skitimax

[01:03:58] And just other cheesy B-movies

[01:04:00] They're surprisingly pretty decent

[01:04:02] They come out of their shells somehow in this series

[01:04:06] They get good writing

[01:04:08] You get the guy who plays Emperor Kataja

[01:04:11] I was going to say Kataja was fantastic

[01:04:14] He plays it like this is the most insane, the best role of his entire life

[01:04:19] And you can feel it

[01:04:21] But when you look at his IMDB he has very minimal soap opera stuff

[01:04:26] And yet in that role it's like oh man this guy is a little Caligula Nero man

[01:04:32] He's so good

[01:04:34] He really is

[01:04:36] That was the thing with him

[01:04:38] I looked at his IMDB too and I was like how's this guy not in more stuff or be bigger

[01:04:41] Because this dude is really good

[01:04:43] I'm like this should just be his demo reel

[01:04:45] Here look at this

[01:04:47] And you talk about the great scenes

[01:04:51] The scene where he's talking about where he's going to forgive

[01:04:56] I will forgive you Lando

[01:04:58] Has Lando realized that he put a madman on the throne and he's walking backwards

[01:05:03] How great, and this is a scene that no one really talks about

[01:05:06] But how great is that? That whole scene is phenomenal

[01:05:10] And then Kataja doesn't blink

[01:05:13] He doesn't blink

[01:05:15] He doesn't blink and he's like what are a few million lives for that of a living god

[01:05:21] And then Lando backs away to meet one of the other best characters of the show too

[01:05:27] Verini, the little minster, mincing minster guy who will become the regent

[01:05:32] The saddest character

[01:05:34] Let's give him the I'm Droopy award for wimpy's character

[01:05:40] And Droopy

[01:05:42] I love him, I love Verini

[01:05:44] That's like again that actor he was in season one as just a guy

[01:05:49] They gave Lando a call on the screen

[01:05:51] They brought him back in season three

[01:05:54] And then they liked him again and brought him back in season four

[01:05:56] And then you get to season five

[01:05:58] And he's one of the most tragic characters

[01:06:01] Like the regent who started out as a little goofy guy

[01:06:04] He's just making jokes all the time

[01:06:06] And then that was so relatable

[01:06:08] Because we've all had that

[01:06:09] We've had class clowns who we see years later

[01:06:12] And they either fucked up their life or they're doing something serious with it

[01:06:16] You never know until it's

[01:06:18] Or they're dead

[01:06:20] That's one way to look at it Mr. Ellison

[01:06:22] I just thought of something

[01:06:27] What about when it's kind of wild there

[01:06:34] When they just kind of

[01:06:36] Every once in a while will go off to different planets here and there

[01:06:41] And they'll have some dry remarks about oh this is a dump

[01:06:47] Like when they go to Minbar

[01:06:50] And it's like in shambles because of a civil war

[01:06:54] And it's like oh my beautiful city is in flames linear

[01:06:57] And it's like linear is like yeah yeah yeah that's sad and all

[01:07:00] But linear is so funny

[01:07:03] Oh there's another great character Neroon

[01:07:06] That's one of the best characters of the show too

[01:07:09] The warrior cast member who's got a heart of gold

[01:07:14] Underneath all of his anger

[01:07:18] He's one of my favorites

[01:07:20] That was about it

[01:07:21] You've got to read the price of peach

[01:07:23] You'll like more on him in there

[01:07:25] I'll check it out

[01:07:27] I know Tamlet, my pals

[01:07:30] Jeff Akin and company

[01:07:32] They have a bunch of different Star Trek podcasts

[01:07:34] Including the greatest track and Starfleet leadership

[01:07:37] But they also have a great podcast called Babylon 5 for the first time

[01:07:42] Not a Star Trek podcast

[01:07:44] And it's just so funny hearing it from their modern day eyes

[01:07:47] They are trying to avoid spoilers and everything

[01:07:49] And watch it in chronological order

[01:07:51] But they will buzz each other out when they make a Star Trek reference

[01:07:55] They're like get enough topic here

[01:07:57] And they actually really don't

[01:08:00] I thought I was the only one

[01:08:02] They also dug Tamlin Tomita's character

[01:08:05] Who in the books is revealed to be kind of a traitor

[01:08:07] On official pilot

[01:08:09] I was like see that character I would have kept her

[01:08:12] Takashima

[01:08:13] Yeah

[01:08:15] I didn't think your dialogue was bad

[01:08:17] The doctor kind of felt confused

[01:08:19] So I can kind of see why they replaced him with Franklin

[01:08:21] But I mean it was a pilot

[01:08:23] I really knew what they were doing

[01:08:25] Yeah the weapons, they were phasers

[01:08:27] I actually was doing a article about phasers

[01:08:30] And someone referenced

[01:08:32] Because I did this whole article on the weapons of sci-fi

[01:08:34] And one was a phaser

[01:08:35] It took me a year to research it

[01:08:37] So then I was like things that are like phasers

[01:08:39] And of course the B-5 pilot gun comes up

[01:08:42] I'm like what? I don't remember the pilot

[01:08:44] Because I always remember the PGP

[01:08:45] You know the activates when you hold it up

[01:08:47] Which is really

[01:08:48] They restarted on TNT by Stuart Copeland and the police

[01:08:52] Oh really?

[01:08:54] But it's like you know that was weird

[01:08:56] That was another weird thing about the pilot

[01:08:58] By the way for characters that we wish

[01:09:00] I had to look them up

[01:09:02] It's one of the Centauri characters

[01:09:05] Raffi, Raffi I don't know his name

[01:09:07] William

[01:09:08] Not the big confused with the Picard character

[01:09:10] Raffi

[01:09:11] Lord Refa

[01:09:12] I don't know it's R-E-F-A

[01:09:13] And it's played by William Ford

[01:09:15] And he was one of my favorites

[01:09:16] He was friends with Lando

[01:09:19] And the way his accent is brilliant for the Centauri character

[01:09:22] Oh the torturer guy

[01:09:24] Yeah

[01:09:25] Refa who he gets stomped to death by the Naan

[01:09:31] When they lure him there

[01:09:34] And then Lando gives him the nice little holographic speech

[01:09:38] About how he's going to die now

[01:09:40] And this is all deserved

[01:09:42] A hard cut to God's blessing

[01:09:44] Zombie 5

[01:09:46] What are the best murders on the show honestly

[01:09:49] Tell me about it

[01:09:50] What are the best kills

[01:09:51] Because he was responsible for Idira

[01:09:53] Planet of the Apes kind of come up and say

[01:09:56] One of the most darkest moments that really just

[01:10:00] It says depression is when Lando says

[01:10:04] Now we've become a nation of isolate

[01:10:08] Isolationists

[01:10:09] And I'm like wow that is fucking dark

[01:10:14] And then you have a few episodes left before the finale

[01:10:18] Like what

[01:10:19] Are they going to get out of this pickle

[01:10:21] I love it when it becomes a spy show in those later seasons

[01:10:25] It's just

[01:10:27] Oh yeah the drukk are cool as shit

[01:10:31] They're great

[01:10:32] They're great antagonists

[01:10:33] I like them

[01:10:34] They've got a cool design

[01:10:35] But they've got a cool plan

[01:10:38] And they're just nasty

[01:10:41] We haven't mentioned but Wayne Alexander

[01:10:43] One of the great actors on B5 who plays every freaky character

[01:10:48] Jack the Ripper

[01:10:49] He's Lorian

[01:10:51] He's that one drasi in the interrogation episode

[01:10:55] When Sheridan is getting interrogated

[01:10:57] And then he's the drukk guy

[01:10:59] And it's like oh if you see that name pop up on the credits

[01:11:02] It's going to be a good episode

[01:11:04] He's kind of like the Jeffrey Combs of B5

[01:11:07] Where he plays like multiple different roles

[01:11:10] That's a nice second

[01:11:12] But man I love the drukk

[01:11:14] They're so evil and sick

[01:11:17] And I love the keepers that are on them

[01:11:19] And it's just such a cool

[01:11:20] The makeup in B5 is still excellent

[01:11:23] These aliens they look so cool

[01:11:25] Like the naan are a cool design

[01:11:27] They are very elaborate

[01:11:29] They have spots and they have the

[01:11:31] You know J'Kar has like the folds on his neck

[01:11:35] Because he got implanted gills in the gathering

[01:11:38] So it just stays there

[01:11:40] It's just so much cool stuff

[01:11:42] And you know the alien design

[01:11:45] We mentioned Kosh

[01:11:46] Kosh is alluring because he's so abstract

[01:11:48] And so weird and he has this big suit on

[01:11:52] Half the time you don't know if it's a puzzle

[01:11:54] Or a reveal of truth

[01:11:56] That only makes sense to him

[01:11:58] You're just like

[01:12:00] I suppose you're right

[01:12:02] Let's speed, let's speed, let's speed

[01:12:05] How good was Brad Doroff in his one episode?

[01:12:08] How was the guy about to be executed?

[01:12:11] The serial killer?

[01:12:12] Yeah, he was the serial killer

[01:12:14] He was one of the monks

[01:12:16] Oh yeah, the monk killing

[01:12:18] Yeah, the serial killer

[01:12:20] Mark Rolston's aliens

[01:12:22] And Shawshank was the serial killer

[01:12:24] On Death of the Prolete

[01:12:25] Because he came off of the X-Files

[01:12:27] The mind-wide concept

[01:12:28] Yeah, he did the X-Files episode

[01:12:31] He's in a Millennium episode

[01:12:33] He's in everything

[01:12:34] Ever since Pukka's been in it

[01:12:35] He's in a Voyager episode too

[01:12:37] The way he basically plays

[01:12:39] Yeah, assigns this guy who avenges himself

[01:12:42] Of course, by the juices of Saffu

[01:12:46] I set my mind in motion

[01:12:48] How can we ever forget his greatest role ever?

[01:12:51] I still have gone to Starbucks and repeated that

[01:12:54] It was fun because

[01:12:56] Brad Doroff played a lot of creeps

[01:12:59] A lot of monsters, a lot of ghouls

[01:13:01] But I always think of him in

[01:13:03] Alien Resurrection

[01:13:05] I was going to say, I always think of him in

[01:13:06] One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

[01:13:07] Where he was nice, he was sweet

[01:13:09] You felt sorry for Billy

[01:13:10] Deadwood, Lord of the Rings

[01:13:12] Every time I've seen him at a convention

[01:13:15] He's been pretty welcoming to fans

[01:13:17] I just wish he wasn't in the

[01:13:20] Oh, you know

[01:13:21] The damn

[01:13:24] VIP line so you could actually talk to him for a sec

[01:13:27] Well, I mean, he's royalty for that type of stuff

[01:13:30] Isn't he?

[01:13:31] He's owned his stripes

[01:13:33] Yeah, no, I hope he makes tons of money

[01:13:36] Oh, yeah, William, Brad Doroff, the X-Files

[01:13:38] It's a Beyond the Sea

[01:13:40] Beyond the Sea, that's it

[01:13:41] He's a killer that could see the future

[01:13:43] Not necessarily the future

[01:13:44] What was it? He could read minds or what?

[01:13:46] Something like that

[01:13:47] I'm about to rewatch it myself actually

[01:13:49] That's a great episode

[01:13:51] Time on the, yeah, in the Exorcist 3

[01:13:54] Oh, yeah

[01:13:55] Hell of an actor

[01:13:57] Hell of an actor

[01:13:58] And that's the thing about B5

[01:13:59] They would get some of these actors

[01:14:01] That are known for certain things

[01:14:03] Like Peter Jurisic was known for comedy

[01:14:05] He was the funny guy in Hill Street Blues

[01:14:07] He was like the little snitch

[01:14:09] And Andreas Katsoulis plays a lot of

[01:14:12] Over-the-top villainous characters

[01:14:14] Playing against type, didn't make up

[01:14:16] And they get these actors and they can play

[01:14:18] And Walter Koenig, right?

[01:14:19] And they get these actors

[01:14:21] And not just play them against type

[01:14:22] But give them material that demonstrates

[01:14:24] That they have a lot more range

[01:14:26] Than maybe we, the viewer at home

[01:14:28] Have seen them on television

[01:14:30] I grew up with B5

[01:14:32] And I knew Jeff Conaway as Zach Allen

[01:14:35] I know of Grease, I've watched Grease

[01:14:37] It's not my type of thing

[01:14:38] I've seen Taxi as well

[01:14:40] But I think of him as Zach Allen

[01:14:43] A very multifaceted character

[01:14:45] Who's funny but he also has a lot of gravitas

[01:14:48] But for most people out there

[01:14:50] They may see someone like Stephen First as Veer

[01:14:53] And say, oh it's the guy from Animal House

[01:14:55] Or they see Jeff Conaway and they say

[01:14:57] Oh it's the guy from Grease

[01:14:59] And this series was so rewarding

[01:15:02] To all of these performers

[01:15:05] To give them a multitude of things to do

[01:15:08] Like when you start the show

[01:15:10] They may be similar to how you know them

[01:15:12] Like Veer is a buffoon in the first season

[01:15:16] But he has some chutzpah

[01:15:18] But remember when he's playing his little video game

[01:15:20] In the council

[01:15:21] Like his little Gameboy thing

[01:15:23] And the car's playing with it later

[01:15:27] You get to a point where

[01:15:29] Now Veer is getting drunk

[01:15:31] Because he's murdered a person

[01:15:33] And he's never murdered anyone

[01:15:35] And now he feels conflicted about it

[01:15:37] Because the guy he murdered was an insane emperor

[01:15:40] That was a fun one

[01:15:43] But let's all be honest

[01:15:46] There's a little bit of Kenicki in Zach Allen

[01:15:52] There's a little bit of Kenicki in there

[01:15:54] Yeah just a little

[01:15:56] But Zach will have some really heartbreaking scenes

[01:16:02] Like one of my favorites is in season five

[01:16:06] Where he confronts Garibaldi about relapsing into alcoholism

[01:16:10] And he throws the orange at Garibaldi

[01:16:14] And he can't catch it

[01:16:16] And then he's like yeah you're drunk

[01:16:18] Bad time to do that

[01:16:20] So many of the cast members were recovering alcoholics

[01:16:23] So I think it was just very real, very meta

[01:16:27] Yeah

[01:16:29] A lot of that stuff

[01:16:31] With most of these ensemble shows

[01:16:34] You hear that

[01:16:36] Where the writers will take something from those actors

[01:16:40] A personality thing, a story

[01:16:42] Like something they said

[01:16:44] And bleed it into the show

[01:16:46] So Jerry Doyle was very infamously

[01:16:50] A right wing type of guy

[01:16:52] And he would say certain things that then would be put into Garibaldi's mouth

[01:16:56] Like I think one time he was known for saying

[01:16:59] That we don't need electric chairs

[01:17:01] We need electric bleachers for all of these criminals

[01:17:04] And then they wrote that for Garibaldi

[01:17:06] They put that for Garibaldi

[01:17:08] Wow

[01:17:10] And that's what you get with the Star Trek actors

[01:17:12] You get with Space Above and Beyond

[01:17:14] And some of the weaker characters are the ones where they don't get those out of the actors

[01:17:18] I know for instance

[01:17:20] Marina Sertes from TNG, from Star Trek

[01:17:24] She said many times

[01:17:26] Like she regrets not going to the writers more often

[01:17:29] And talking to them and telling them stuff

[01:17:31] Because she was too afraid to do that

[01:17:33] So you get Deanna Troy

[01:17:35] Who's very wishy washy

[01:17:37] I think that applies to Talia in B5

[01:17:39] Like I'm not a big Talia fan

[01:17:41] I'm more of a Lita fan

[01:17:43] And Talia I feel like is a bit like that

[01:17:45] Where it's like I can never get a grasp on Talia

[01:17:47] Talia is cute but yeah

[01:17:49] I like her better when she's kind of a supporting kind of role

[01:17:52] Like 24 in YPD Blue

[01:17:54] Well that's the thing

[01:17:56] I think with some actors

[01:17:58] Break out of the mold of what they do work

[01:18:00] But for her if you look at her catalog of work

[01:18:02] Her episode in Quantum Leap

[01:18:04] She's in the highest rated episode of Quantum Leap

[01:18:06] Right?

[01:18:08] And Joe Thompson usually plays badasses

[01:18:10] Like usually plays no nonsense

[01:18:12] She would play the Avoniva role honestly

[01:18:14] Yeah

[01:18:16] But she has to be very demure

[01:18:18] Very sensitive, very internal

[01:18:20] And it's like eh maybe she's not the best for that

[01:18:22] In this show at least

[01:18:24] But yeah

[01:18:26] I'm curious to know though

[01:18:28] What's everyone's favorite opening theme

[01:18:30] Of B5

[01:18:32] Because each season has their own little

[01:18:34] Theme and monologue

[01:18:36] I'll let you guys go first

[01:18:38] I got one

[01:18:40] I don't know

[01:18:42] My buddy just one where he says

[01:18:44] For Peace, it failed

[01:18:46] Just that

[01:18:48] Those two words

[01:18:50] Tells you everything is so powerful

[01:18:52] It failed

[01:18:54] Season 4 or season 3

[01:18:56] Season 3

[01:18:58] Season 4 I like it when you see

[01:19:00] All their faces

[01:19:02] Doing a free rotation

[01:19:04] Like high school pictures

[01:19:06] Yeah

[01:19:08] They try to look at the camera

[01:19:10] Season 4 does have the benefit

[01:19:12] Of everyone gets a moment

[01:19:14] To say something

[01:19:16] In the opening monologue

[01:19:18] That's how that one works

[01:19:20] It has their little chime in

[01:19:22] I also like season 1

[01:19:24] Simplicity

[01:19:26] And Michael O'Hare's

[01:19:28] The beginning of the third

[01:19:30] Yeah

[01:19:32] He had such a deep voice

[01:19:34] Like with Sinclair

[01:19:36] And I think that's something that I really appreciate

[01:19:38] He should have voiced some TV ads

[01:19:40] He was so sincere

[01:19:42] Sinclair was so sincere

[01:19:44] About everything

[01:19:46] Like he believed in what he said in that monologue

[01:19:48] So that when you get to a

[01:19:50] Vonnevar who's a very different type of character

[01:19:52] And she says it failed

[01:19:54] It actually impacts you

[01:19:56] As a viewer because you did have a whole season

[01:19:58] Of one guy believing

[01:20:00] That we could achieve peace

[01:20:02] Through these means and then we get a Vonnevar

[01:20:04] Two seasons later saying nah

[01:20:06] Nope, it has to be about fighting now

[01:20:10] It's kind of like really shifts

[01:20:12] That way and it's like

[01:20:14] Wow, this went from being oh this is really

[01:20:16] Peaceful, this isn't so bad, they're gonna win

[01:20:18] Right? And then

[01:20:20] We failed

[01:20:22] No, what? No

[01:20:24] Don't say that

[01:20:28] Hey, it leaves B5

[01:20:30] At the guts, I never thought DS9

[01:20:32] Could ever hold B5

[01:20:34] Yeah, they would kick their asses in a fight

[01:20:36] That is for sure

[01:20:40] I'm gonna have a fighter pilot be

[01:20:42] In 2257

[01:20:46] Babylon 5 to raiding party

[01:20:48] Surrender your vessels or be destroyed

[01:20:50] No more conflict if we can avoid it

[01:20:54] If you need me I'll be over there

[01:20:56] Getting drunk with the rest of the aliens

[01:20:58] Cheers, Babylon 5 weeknights

[01:21:00] 9 Sci-Fi channel

[01:21:04] I'll just interrupt this

[01:21:06] Shit

[01:21:08] It's like

[01:21:10] We're gonna watch this to the bow in one team

[01:21:12] Fuck it, I need to get on there

[01:21:14] And kick somebody's ass

[01:21:16] For me watching you had the

[01:21:18] Dominion war and then you had these wars that were coming

[01:21:20] In B5 and around the same time

[01:21:22] In TV watching

[01:21:24] And of course there was Spacebomb beyond

[01:21:26] Which was just kicking so much ass

[01:21:28] And I was dating a girl that went to the army

[01:21:30] So she was kind of my bansin

[01:21:32] Oh

[01:21:34] It was hot

[01:21:36] But you know

[01:21:38] The way that B5, and I just have to get this out there

[01:21:40] The way they did that war

[01:21:42] And the way you felt it

[01:21:44] And they didn't repeat battle scenes really

[01:21:46] Now DS9 did

[01:21:48] The final battle they did

[01:21:50] And I was so upset by that

[01:21:52] And disgusted that they would repeat battle scenes

[01:21:54] At the battle of Cardassia

[01:21:56] I was like I've already seen this

[01:21:58] Come on guys, seriously?

[01:22:00] You're gonna rerun? Why don't you just show the Klingon ship blowing up

[01:22:02] In two movies you did

[01:22:04] Two freaking movies you did it

[01:22:06] And now you're doing

[01:22:08] But Babylon 5 to the credit

[01:22:10] Some of the battle scenes in that were so thrilling

[01:22:12] And I knew it was, you know, computer effects

[01:22:14] I mean no one can hide that

[01:22:16] But it was more compelling

[01:22:18] Anyway I just had to get that out there

[01:22:20] When it comes to the

[01:22:22] There's a lot of DS9 V5 comparisons

[01:22:24] But I don't think there really is one

[01:22:26] It took years for, you know, DS9

[01:22:28] Four years to bring V5 to life

[01:22:30] Because of the CGI

[01:22:32] And then they started in 89

[01:22:34] And then Jay Michael said

[01:22:36] It's gonna take four years to bring it together

[01:22:38] And I'm like, okay that's cool

[01:22:40] That's a long wait

[01:22:42] For back then because you're like

[01:22:44] Do I really want to stick around for four years

[01:22:46] And wait for a show or am I gonna

[01:22:48] You know go watch someone's one right now

[01:22:52] I mean if you told somebody that

[01:22:54] Today you get a bunch of whining

[01:22:56] And shit

[01:22:58] But back then with the technology

[01:23:00] He predicted the internet interaction with his

[01:23:02] Online

[01:23:04] That's right

[01:23:06] Imagine TV shows without that

[01:23:08] That would be unfathomable now

[01:23:10] Oh of course

[01:23:12] And it's about

[01:23:14] It's about

[01:23:16] Knowing your material but knowing

[01:23:18] The audience that will watch

[01:23:20] It as well. It's a very patient

[01:23:22] Show

[01:23:24] It will bring things back

[01:23:26] And each time

[01:23:28] Each time a new season comes around

[01:23:30] There's improvements

[01:23:32] On a visual level

[01:23:34] On

[01:23:36] Yeah

[01:23:40] There's always troubles

[01:23:42] In productions

[01:23:44] V5 is known for having

[01:23:46] A five year plan

[01:23:48] A five season plan, a big show viable

[01:23:50] But the reality is

[01:23:52] Even now in television

[01:23:54] Things can interrupt your plan

[01:23:56] Actors leave

[01:23:58] Or a show gets cancelled suddenly

[01:24:00] Or you get delayed

[01:24:02] A season or something or rather

[01:24:04] A year gets pushed back like

[01:24:06] All these things happen to be five in some way

[01:24:08] Network is there because killing anything that's too expensive

[01:24:12] You get network interference

[01:24:14] Clearly as well

[01:24:16] That happens too but somehow

[01:24:18] Through all of these troubling waters

[01:24:20] V5 managed to keep on the

[01:24:22] Straight and narrow and provide

[01:24:24] A pretty satisfying

[01:24:26] Story with all of these

[01:24:28] Seeds that were planted in the beginning

[01:24:30] And watered at the show

[01:24:32] And then eventually blossomed

[01:24:34] So

[01:24:36] It's still to this day something

[01:24:38] Very admirable because

[01:24:40] We live in an age now where

[01:24:42] This is a given for most

[01:24:44] Shows and maybe some shows

[01:24:46] Don't need to have the big

[01:24:48] Story plan

[01:24:50] Thing but you still see

[01:24:52] The horrors

[01:24:54] You still see it fumble

[01:24:56] Because either they don't plan it out

[01:24:58] Or things

[01:25:00] Just stop it before it can

[01:25:02] Really get cooking

[01:25:04] There's so many great science fiction shows that I love

[01:25:06] Yeah

[01:25:08] There's so many great science fiction shows that I love

[01:25:10] That just don't get the chance to

[01:25:12] Go all the way

[01:25:14] And it's real difficult

[01:25:16] Threshold is a good example

[01:25:18] That's a good show

[01:26:40] Captain America vs Darth Vader

[01:26:42] Solid Snake vs The Iron Giant

[01:26:44] Classic matchups like Robocop vs

[01:26:46] Terminator

[01:26:48] And even The Muppets vs Sesame Street

[01:26:50] That one was crazy

[01:26:52] So if you're a fan of geek culture and love

[01:26:56] Wherever you get your podcast

[01:27:00] So I want you guys

[01:27:02] To do your rankings

[01:27:06] Of the seasons and movies

[01:27:08] If you want I can go first

[01:27:10] Yeah go for it

[01:27:12] I would rank seasons 2

[01:27:14] 3 and 4

[01:27:16] Perfect 5 like at the core

[01:27:18] There's very few

[01:27:20] Episodes

[01:27:22] I really don't want to skip any episode

[01:27:24] Even if it's a weaker one

[01:27:26] I just love the atmosphere in those particular ones

[01:27:28] The battles move the story forward

[01:27:30] And

[01:27:32] All the dry humor

[01:27:34] And just bizarre mysteries

[01:27:36] Are just really

[01:27:38] Still make for engaging programming today

[01:27:40] Crusade

[01:27:42] The Lost Tales

[01:27:44] And Third Space

[01:27:46] I'm going to give a 4.5 out of 5

[01:27:48] Just because those are overall pretty good

[01:27:50] They're really engaging

[01:27:52] And they're good at experimenting

[01:27:54] And going into other genres

[01:27:56] Like adventure and I mean

[01:27:58] Lost Tales doesn't even list as horror at time

[01:28:00] Because it involves an exorcism

[01:28:02] So I mean

[01:28:04] Seasons 1 and 5

[01:28:06] In the beginning movie

[01:28:08] In a call to arms I'm going to give a 4 out of 5

[01:28:10] They're pretty kick ass

[01:28:12] They have some imperfections

[01:28:14] They have some hammy acting

[01:28:16] And questionable music at times

[01:28:18] And then after that

[01:28:20] They have some solid staging

[01:28:22] And just electrifying ideas

[01:28:24] And what have you

[01:28:26] And then I'm going to give Legend of the Rangers

[01:28:28] And the Road Home animated movie

[01:28:30] A 3.5 out of 5

[01:28:32] Those are fun

[01:28:34] But I wouldn't introduce everyone to it

[01:28:36] Because there's a lot of giant backstory

[01:28:38] To just kind of introduce newcomers to

[01:28:40] But they're still very intriguing

[01:28:42] And I mean

[01:28:44] Road Home I must give applause

[01:28:46] And that's kind of their answer to the Spider-verse

[01:28:48] Of Marvel in a way

[01:28:50] With that time travel

[01:28:52] I'll let you guys take it away

[01:28:54] Who wants to go?

[01:28:58] I'm going to fire up the box office

[01:29:00] Just give them a 5 star rating

[01:29:02] Type thing you're doing

[01:29:04] So 2, 3 and 4

[01:29:06] Probably seasons 2, 3 and 4

[01:29:08] 5 out of 5

[01:29:10] Seasons 1 and 5 a 4 out of 5

[01:29:12] I really love that 5

[01:29:14] I need to watch

[01:29:16] I have all of it

[01:29:18] But it's probably been 20 years since I've seen the movies

[01:29:20] I can't wait for the

[01:29:22] Re-master of the series

[01:29:24] It's going to be so much fun to see what they do with that

[01:29:26] That's going to be great

[01:29:28] But that's not the movies though

[01:29:30] Hopefully this sells well

[01:29:32] And then they'll do the movies

[01:29:34] TNT decided to cock block their efforts

[01:29:36] But I do have them on Amazon Prime

[01:29:38] And I like what they've done with the remaster

[01:29:40] I have a set

[01:29:42] The DVD set of

[01:29:44] Complete movies all in one set

[01:29:46] And

[01:29:48] It's probably been 20 years since I've seen them

[01:29:50] But I'm sure they're great

[01:29:52] We'll give them a 3.5

[01:29:54] Just because they're a 5

[01:29:56] Proceed was awesome

[01:29:58] The show, JMS got screwed on that one

[01:30:00] We all know

[01:30:02] Solid 4.5

[01:30:04] Out of 5

[01:30:06] I forgot about the River of Souls

[01:30:08] 3 out of 5

[01:30:10] How could you forget?

[01:30:12] I really dug

[01:30:14] Martin Sheen and his makeup and everything

[01:30:16] It was just one of those

[01:30:18] Who wouldn't really introduce everyone to it

[01:30:20] Because it's kind of a side quest

[01:30:22] As opposed to a DVD movie

[01:30:24] A lot of people hate it

[01:30:26] I just love the ideals that it gets across

[01:30:28] Even though it has some slower moments

[01:30:32] I'd just like to get more Babel on 5

[01:30:34] You know, we had the show

[01:30:36] And the show ended

[01:30:38] You know, let's play Babel on 5

[01:30:40] I can't be mad at it

[01:30:42] It's still better than half the other crap that's out there

[01:30:44] That is true too

[01:30:46] Bad Babel on 5 is better than most of the other sci-fi stuff

[01:30:48] Compared to so many other franchises

[01:30:50] That jumped the shark

[01:30:54] Absolutely

[01:30:56] Yeah

[01:30:58] That's so much B5

[01:31:00] To be honest

[01:31:02] Even if it's a lesser episode

[01:31:04] I'd watch it again

[01:31:06] I guess

[01:31:08] I'm one of those nerds

[01:31:11] Who watches all of it

[01:31:13] I'm not going to skip Braille

[01:31:15] Even though I don't like it very much

[01:31:17] I'll still watch it

[01:31:19] There's always something in it

[01:31:21] The A story may not be good

[01:31:23] But the B story is really good

[01:31:25] Even the outdated CNN-esque news thing

[01:31:27] I might skip

[01:31:29] But other than that, it's pretty solid

[01:31:31] But rankings

[01:31:33] I never think about

[01:31:35] B5 and those ranking terms

[01:31:37] The whole thing

[01:31:39] 5 stars

[01:31:41] For sentimental reasons

[01:31:43] I give season 1 a good solid

[01:31:45] 4 stars

[01:31:47] It has some of the weaker episodes of the show

[01:31:49] The actors are still finding their feet

[01:31:51] As is the writing

[01:31:53] I'm getting closer

[01:31:55] I'm getting closer

[01:31:57] It also has some great moments

[01:31:59] It has some great bits

[01:32:01] And they pay off later

[01:32:03] I think I'd also rate season 5 a 4 as well

[01:32:05] It has some slower stuff

[01:32:07] It has some story beats that I don't care for

[01:32:09] But also some of my favorite episodes of the show

[01:32:11] In there as well

[01:32:13] And I love that Babylon 5 ends

[01:32:15] On a more bitter sweet note

[01:32:17] Than anything else

[01:32:19] And then 2 to 4

[01:32:21] I agree

[01:32:23] They're 5 stars, they're great

[01:32:25] It's weird because I think

[01:32:27] There are more episodes in season 2

[01:32:29] That I outright don't care for

[01:32:31] Than in season 1

[01:32:33] It's like, strong

[01:32:35] He's just got to get past the snob

[01:32:37] Who want everything to look

[01:32:39] I don't know

[01:32:41] I don't know who the famous

[01:32:43] Makeup artist of today would be

[01:32:45] But for me as a guy who grew up with

[01:32:47] The likes of Rick Baker and Stan Winston

[01:32:49] I'm like, it's fine

[01:32:51] Yeah

[01:32:53] Season 2 to 4

[01:32:55] 5 star stuff

[01:32:57] I think season 3 is my favorite

[01:32:59] I just like the pacing of season 3

[01:33:01] I like the tone of it

[01:33:05] You know, you got Marcus is new

[01:33:07] You got the night watch stuff

[01:33:09] Marcus is so underrated

[01:33:13] It has a Franklin

[01:33:15] Drug addiction arc is in there

[01:33:17] And I like that arc

[01:33:19] Years before we were talking about opioids

[01:33:21] But the movies

[01:33:23] Yeah, I've watched them

[01:33:25] I find them all kind of

[01:33:27] Just fine overall

[01:33:29] I watch them

[01:33:31] But there are times when I don't watch them

[01:33:33] I just watch the show

[01:33:35] The movies are perfectly adequate

[01:33:37] The Gathering is probably

[01:33:39] With the Legend of the Rangers

[01:33:41] My least favorites

[01:33:43] But the rest of them

[01:33:45] In the beginning is probably the best movie

[01:33:47] Out of them all, I would say

[01:33:49] If not for anything else

[01:33:51] But for the scene

[01:33:53] Where the president of Earth

[01:33:55] Is just telling everyone that they're going to all die

[01:33:57] Basically

[01:34:01] They get that actress

[01:34:03] Who played her was

[01:34:05] The Tricia O'Neal

[01:34:07] Who was

[01:34:09] The captain of the Space Sea

[01:34:13] She was also in Believers

[01:34:15] As the alien mother

[01:34:19] The new movie, I rather enjoyed it

[01:34:21] The Road Home I thought it was a fun little time

[01:34:23] I would give it like a 3 out of 5

[01:34:25] It was good, it was nice

[01:34:27] If they want to do what they do with Scooby Doo

[01:34:29] Or all the other DC animations

[01:34:31] Where they just do one every one or two years

[01:34:33] I'd be totally down for that

[01:34:37] And Crusade, I need to rewatch again

[01:34:39] I've never really cared for Crusade

[01:34:41] It's a little bit too silly for my taste

[01:34:43] But I love Gary Cole

[01:34:45] And I love Daniel Day Kim

[01:34:47] Okay, so

[01:34:49] Instead of doing what fans used to do

[01:34:51] Which was pop the disc

[01:34:53] Back and out, back and forth

[01:34:55] And watching Cronulantric Order

[01:34:57] Just buy it off Voodoo or

[01:34:59] Amazon

[01:35:01] And watch it in the Intended Creators order

[01:35:03] You will have so much fun with it

[01:35:05] And I did that

[01:35:07] Watching it the first time

[01:35:09] And I was like, I can't imagine watching it in any other order

[01:35:11] I would've been confused

[01:35:13] I would've been like, it ends like that

[01:35:15] Crusade's after V5

[01:35:17] That's the whole point of it

[01:35:19] It's literally season 1

[01:35:21] Like Firefly

[01:35:23] Yeah, absolutely like Firefly

[01:35:25] And you would've been so confused

[01:35:27] You're like, so Franklin's only in the last episode

[01:35:29] I'm like, no

[01:35:33] Gary Cole was in

[01:35:35] A TV show called American Gothic

[01:35:37] Yes he was

[01:35:39] It was also a one season

[01:35:41] Show where he plays

[01:35:43] A charismatic lead

[01:35:45] Who's dark and brooding

[01:35:47] That was aired out of order

[01:35:49] I'm glad that it happened to Gary Cole twice

[01:35:51] In the 90s

[01:35:53] Not since

[01:35:55] Ever since V5

[01:35:57] West Wing and Office Space

[01:35:59] He's pretty much been given extra

[01:36:01] Time to do what he wants now

[01:36:03] He's now the lead on NCIS

[01:36:05] But I liked how

[01:36:07] When he was replacing the lead on that

[01:36:09] They gave it time

[01:36:11] And to your point

[01:36:13] They kind of didn't give you enough time

[01:36:15] He's like, hey, he's the new guy

[01:36:17] Who's going to be on Earth

[01:36:19] But

[01:36:21] Or not on Earth

[01:36:23] Where does he retire again?

[01:36:25] He goes to Minbari

[01:36:29] I feel like Crusade holds up really well

[01:36:31] It's just, skip that

[01:36:33] One dumb

[01:36:35] Where they have two alien agents

[01:36:37] Which are clearly a Scollian Mulder homage

[01:36:39] That's the one I remember being fun

[01:36:41] Don't you dare

[01:36:43] I need to sit down and watch the show myself

[01:36:45] That was so bad in that one

[01:36:47] That's a fun episode

[01:36:49] I remember that

[01:36:51] The music sucks in Crusade too

[01:36:53] That's the other big no-no

[01:36:55] You don't like that percussion

[01:36:57] A lot of fans hate it

[01:36:59] But I love the electronic music

[01:37:01] Now

[01:37:03] If you want really bad

[01:37:05] Electronic music that sounds like a Casio keyboard

[01:37:07] Watch the new CSI

[01:37:09] You will just be like, these guys

[01:37:11] Should have never come back

[01:37:13] Why do you even bring back the leads

[01:37:15] When they're literally just featured cameos

[01:37:17] They barely are in the episode

[01:37:19] Sorry, go ahead

[01:37:21] Oh, it's too much shit

[01:37:23] I know that feeling

[01:37:28] I do, I know that feeling

[01:37:30] Oh, and I rank Hypernauts

[01:37:32] A 5 out of 5

[01:37:34] We haven't mentioned Hypernauts

[01:37:36] That's part of the D5 universe

[01:37:38] Yeah, come on

[01:37:40] We all know about Hypernauts

[01:37:42] I don't

[01:37:44] Oh, you don't know about Hypernauts? Great

[01:37:46] It was on YouTube

[01:37:48] But yeah, basically

[01:37:50] I think Doug Netter, the producer

[01:37:52] And the animation group of B5

[01:37:54] Went and created a kids show

[01:37:56] So you get a bunch of

[01:37:58] B5 actors

[01:38:00] And a bunch of B5 special effects

[01:38:02] Then we got to include Captain Power

[01:38:04] 5 universe but not really

[01:38:06] And there's a puppet

[01:38:08] Creature called The Gloose

[01:38:10] And they have an

[01:38:12] Amazing opening credit

[01:38:14] Sequence where it lists all the

[01:38:16] Characters, you get their little picture

[01:38:18] And then it says, and introducing The Gloose

[01:38:20] And it's like this little gazelle looking puppet

[01:38:22] It's very absurd

[01:38:24] But if you want to kick out of even more

[01:38:26] Random B5 nonsense

[01:38:28] You got that in the wings

[01:38:30] For your Hypernauts

[01:38:32] Where you get the actress

[01:38:34] Who played Julie Massante

[01:38:36] The night watch lady

[01:38:38] The one who tried to sleep with Sheridan

[01:38:40] You get to see her as an

[01:38:42] Evil alien bitch and it's great

[01:38:46] Check that out

[01:38:48] Secret game question time

[01:38:50] Are you all ready?

[01:38:52] Yeah, secret

[01:38:54] Question time people

[01:38:56] Here's the staple

[01:38:58] What are a couple

[01:39:00] Of your favorite one season

[01:39:02] Only shows that only lasted one season and got

[01:39:04] Cancelled? And we know Crusade and

[01:39:06] Firefly

[01:39:08] Spiderman Unlimited

[01:39:14] There's so many

[01:39:16] Spiderman Unlimited

[01:39:20] Threshold

[01:39:24] I like Flash Forward

[01:39:26] Deadman Unlimited

[01:39:32] What, no one's gonna see the name Gunman?

[01:39:34] I'm just kidding

[01:39:38] The best pilot episode ever created

[01:39:42] Blow up the World Trade Center you bastards

[01:39:44] It'll be fine

[01:39:46] It came out before 9-11

[01:39:48] Only a few months, whoopsies

[01:39:50] I think someone got some inspiration

[01:39:54] I don't know

[01:39:56] What's the one

[01:39:58] It was kind of

[01:40:00] The answer to HBO's Rome

[01:40:02] Spartacus?

[01:40:04] No

[01:40:06] Spartacus went on for four seasons

[01:40:08] Empire, no no relation

[01:40:10] It was a 2005 epic

[01:40:12] And had a US and UK

[01:40:16] Cast

[01:40:18] Empire had Fat Joe and John Lenzano

[01:40:20] That's a movie

[01:40:22] This is a TV show

[01:40:24] I do like that movie

[01:40:28] There's so many other

[01:40:30] One shot

[01:40:32] There's ones I would love to revisit

[01:40:34] But I don't know how they would work

[01:40:36] I always want to know what Terra Nova is like

[01:40:38] Nowadays

[01:40:42] Had they fired their writers and gotten some better ones

[01:40:44] And just let it continue

[01:40:46] It would have

[01:40:48] Is that the one where they went back with the dinosaurs?

[01:40:50] Stargates meets Jurassic Park

[01:40:52] That was a good show

[01:40:54] I liked that

[01:40:56] It was fun, the kids were really dumb

[01:40:58] It was a guy

[01:41:00] Steven Lang

[01:41:02] In the second Deadpool movie

[01:41:04] Yes he was

[01:41:06] He should play Cable

[01:41:08] He should play Cable

[01:41:10] He should play everybody

[01:41:12] I got one for you

[01:41:14] It only ran as a TV movie

[01:41:16] And I wanted to show

[01:41:18] And it was Michael D. Moore

[01:41:20] The god of Balistar Galactica

[01:41:22] He did

[01:41:24] And I

[01:41:26] It influenced me

[01:41:28] Called Virtuality

[01:41:30] It only aired once

[01:41:32] It aired in 2009

[01:41:34] It's extraordinary

[01:41:36] I did a whole blog post on it

[01:41:38] And I dug into the music

[01:41:40] And all this other stuff

[01:41:42] It influenced my first book

[01:41:46] It's an incredible

[01:41:48] If you've never seen it

[01:41:50] You can find it on YouTube

[01:41:52] Type it in the things

[01:41:54] I'm on it

[01:41:56] Dark Shadows

[01:41:58] The early 90s remake

[01:42:00] They did with Big Cross

[01:42:02] Let me tell you about that

[01:42:06] It was probably like 1920

[01:42:08] I had my own apartment

[01:42:10] It was on Friday nights

[01:42:12] And every Friday I had a party

[01:42:14] That's what you do when you're 19 or 20

[01:42:16] You have a party with 20 people in your apartment

[01:42:20] On a 9 or 10 o'clock

[01:42:22] The party would stop

[01:42:24] I would make everyone stop and sit down

[01:42:26] And I would record on VHS

[01:42:28] The Dark Shadows show

[01:42:30] Imagine everyone with their beer just sitting watching

[01:42:32] Dark Shadows every Friday night for an hour

[01:42:38] Sit down, shut up

[01:42:40] We're watching Dark Shadows

[01:42:42] Back in the day before

[01:42:44] Were you either watched everything live

[01:42:46] Or you recorded it

[01:42:48] You missed it

[01:42:50] I was on VHS at the time

[01:42:52] I love VHS show

[01:42:54] That was so good

[01:42:56] I liked

[01:42:58] There was a show called

[01:43:00] Awake with Jason Isaacs

[01:43:04] All these shows have the

[01:43:06] 24 millennium X-Files writers

[01:43:08] That's why they're so good

[01:43:12] That was one where

[01:43:14] Jason Isaacs was a cop

[01:43:16] Who at the very beginning

[01:43:18] He had an accident

[01:43:20] And he's stuck between two different

[01:43:22] Realities

[01:43:24] One where his son died

[01:43:26] Or one where his wife died

[01:43:28] There's little differences between them

[01:43:32] He's solving crimes

[01:43:34] But it's the same crime

[01:43:36] But there will be some piece of evidence in this reality

[01:43:38] And some piece of evidence in that reality

[01:43:40] It was really good

[01:43:42] It was an interesting take on a procedural show

[01:43:44] But also

[01:43:46] Jason Isaacs had grief and loss

[01:43:48] And had the mystery of

[01:43:50] What's going on

[01:43:52] Which reality is real

[01:43:54] But Jason Isaacs too

[01:43:56] Who's a wonderful actor

[01:43:58] One of the times where he gets to play

[01:44:00] A hero

[01:44:02] Like a good person

[01:44:04] Usually he plays villainous characters

[01:44:06] But he

[01:44:08] He really shines there

[01:44:10] It's such a bummer that that show

[01:44:12] Just didn't get the chance to thrive

[01:44:14] It was in 2015 I want to say

[01:44:16] And it was just on a certain channel

[01:44:18] At a certain time of night

[01:44:20] And it just didn't make it

[01:44:22] When it was NBC or something

[01:44:24] They just don't understand sci-fi

[01:44:26] They got two new thriller shows

[01:44:28] That I know for a fact I'm going to love

[01:44:30] And they're probably going to cancel it

[01:44:32] I got two more

[01:44:34] I got one that aired last year

[01:44:36] Which I thought was the best show of last year

[01:44:38] Was Time Traveler's Wife

[01:44:40] With Theo James

[01:44:42] I love the stuff about it

[01:44:44] Stephen Moffat wrote it

[01:44:46] I'm a huge Stephen Moffat fan

[01:44:48] And he did Coppoline

[01:44:50] This show called Jekyll

[01:44:52] I love Stephen Moffat

[01:44:54] He's one of my favorite writers

[01:44:56] If you're into Time Travel

[01:44:58] This show is phenomenal

[01:45:00] Time Traveler, if they flesh it out

[01:45:02] It's so good

[01:45:04] It's not available anymore

[01:45:06] It was

[01:45:08] Netflix or Hulu

[01:45:10] Netflix, man

[01:45:12] HBO Max, I'm one of them

[01:45:14] But you can buy the DVDs on eBay

[01:45:16] They're like 20 bucks the whole season

[01:45:18] It's so worth it

[01:45:20] Alaska Daily

[01:45:22] This just came out last year

[01:45:24] And by the time

[01:45:26] It came back

[01:45:28] I was like, I just have a feeling

[01:45:30] They're just going to cancel this

[01:45:32] It's just too fucking good

[01:45:34] It's topical, Hilary Swank in a wonderful comeback role

[01:45:36] Some light humor

[01:45:38] Just give me a sense of how

[01:45:40] No one cares about these cold cases

[01:45:42] And journalism anymore

[01:45:44] And how it just takes

[01:45:46] A bunch of people just speaking the same language

[01:45:48] To just finally do something

[01:45:50] Sure enough, despite that grit

[01:45:54] That winning cast

[01:45:56] Despite everything

[01:45:58] It just wasn't enough

[01:46:00] I was not surprised when I saw ABC

[01:46:02] Refuses to order back

[01:46:04] I'm like, get fucked

[01:46:06] Get fucked

[01:46:08] And there was nothing

[01:46:10] There was one pilot

[01:46:12] It was a pilot that was supposed to go to Ceres

[01:46:14] But it didn't

[01:46:16] But you can find it, I think it's online

[01:46:18] It's called Parallel or Parallels

[01:46:20] Parallels or Parallels within us

[01:46:22] Where basically

[01:46:24] It's almost like sliders

[01:46:26] Where it's this building that travels from

[01:46:28] Universe to universe

[01:46:30] And if you're not back in the building

[01:46:32] At that specific time where it's going to go

[01:46:34] Then you're stuck

[01:46:36] I'm sorry?

[01:46:38] No, English

[01:46:40] No, it's English

[01:46:42] Four teenage friends on the French-Swiss border

[01:46:46] Parallel or Parallels

[01:46:48] Turned upside down by an experiment of the LHC

[01:46:50] The Greatest Particle Collider

[01:46:52] That's not the one?

[01:46:54] Okay

[01:46:56] We'll figure it out

[01:46:58] It does sound good

[01:47:00] There's so many other ones I could mention

[01:47:02] I'm going to do some TV specials by year

[01:47:06] Sometimes too

[01:47:08] I just want to give a shout out of

[01:47:10] We talk about

[01:47:12] You get recurring

[01:47:14] Villainous names of cancelled shows

[01:47:16] Like Fox is a great villain

[01:47:18] Of shows that deserve more

[01:47:20] Space Above and Beyond

[01:47:22] But they did that a lot

[01:47:24] Like Firefly clearly

[01:47:26] Even with fun shows

[01:47:28] Like the

[01:47:30] Patrick Walburton version of The Tick

[01:47:32] The live action version of The Tick

[01:47:34] That was such a funny show

[01:47:36] Such a great show

[01:47:38] The fans loved it

[01:47:40] The actor got the shine

[01:47:42] Yeah, Patrick Walburne's great

[01:47:44] And there's so much fun stuff in that

[01:47:46] You know what?

[01:47:48] We're talking Andy Richter

[01:47:50] Oh yeah

[01:47:52] He had his sitcom which had

[01:47:54] Rooster and all these other hysterical comedians

[01:47:56] Featured comedy talents

[01:47:58] I think it was a workplace comedy with

[01:48:00] Very witty, groovy music

[01:48:02] And a hysterical narration

[01:48:04] And kind of an anti-workplace comedy

[01:48:06] In a way

[01:48:08] Like turning that subgenre on its head

[01:48:10] A few different times

[01:48:12] And then when he did his private eye parody show

[01:48:14] Andy Barker which Conan produced

[01:48:16] I was hollering

[01:48:18] I remember my sister recording every episode

[01:48:20] Being like, why do people hate everything

[01:48:22] I love

[01:48:24] When the final episode aired

[01:48:26] And it is still a hoot

[01:48:28] Chinatown

[01:48:30] That's a Jackie Chan movie, isn't it?

[01:48:32] No, it's one of the best movies ever made

[01:48:34] Asshole

[01:48:38] It's just funny

[01:48:40] Six episodes, not enough

[01:48:42] That would kill

[01:48:44] Nowadays if you put something like that

[01:48:46] On Adult Swim

[01:48:48] Yeah, and I know that there's

[01:48:50] People are just afraid

[01:48:52] They're afraid

[01:48:54] I think there's some of those superhero shows

[01:48:56] Or stuff too

[01:48:58] That people enjoy

[01:49:00] Got them nights for Oreo here

[01:49:02] Wasn't there also

[01:49:04] A swamp thing? Wasn't that a big one

[01:49:06] That people are upset about

[01:49:08] Something was great

[01:49:10] But they got screwed on the money on that

[01:49:12] The reason why that show looked so good

[01:49:14] Was they were promised

[01:49:16] All this tax money

[01:49:18] So they spent the money to make this

[01:49:20] Really good show thinking they were going to get that money back

[01:49:22] And they didn't

[01:49:24] That's why they cut the show down

[01:49:26] From whatever 20 episodes

[01:49:28] To 18 or whatever it was

[01:49:30] So that's why they cut the show down

[01:49:32] And that's why it looked so good

[01:49:34] Because all that

[01:49:36] I just love this opening narration

[01:49:38] I am swamp thing

[01:49:40] That swamp thing show was incredible

[01:49:42] Same actor

[01:49:44] It was a mystery of the week

[01:49:46] I'll take it over

[01:49:48] Whatever shit happened in that new one

[01:49:50] I was just like what?

[01:49:52] What's going on here?

[01:49:54] We literally created two episodes and that guy is great

[01:49:56] But like you say

[01:49:58] It's just eye opening

[01:50:00] Where you're just like

[01:50:02] What happened?

[01:50:04] It's literally just me

[01:50:06] And you have the time doing the same shit

[01:50:08] Yes

[01:50:10] So I'm linking Oreo

[01:50:12] With a hyper notch show on Roger and

[01:50:14] That looks good

[01:50:16] I just watched the trailer for that

[01:50:18] By the way guys

[01:50:20] I was like oh my god this looks like the Battle Tech

[01:50:22] You know the Battle Tech

[01:50:24] Animated series from like 94

[01:50:26] It is kind of like that

[01:50:28] Robo tech

[01:50:30] I was like oh my god

[01:50:32] And then it looks like

[01:50:34] Something that would have come out of

[01:50:36] It looked like the photon box kids after

[01:50:38] Power Rangers yeah

[01:50:40] Exactly

[01:50:42] That show is going to haunt me

[01:50:44] Thank you all for making me watch that

[01:50:46] It's a dream you can watch it with kids on

[01:50:48] But do you really want to?

[01:50:50] No I love my children enough not to do that

[01:50:52] Come on

[01:50:54] Fuck them kids

[01:50:56] I promise I will finish it

[01:50:58] I love me some cyberpunk

[01:51:00] And just crazy just hard to describe shit

[01:51:02] Whether it's something stupid on

[01:51:04] Sci-fi channel or skit of action

[01:51:06] It's funny

[01:51:08] But yeah this looks fun

[01:51:10] Right?

[01:51:12] They had some sci-fi shows too

[01:51:14] I got your email

[01:51:16] You're going to torture me some more with hypernauts

[01:51:18] Oh my god

[01:51:20] Come on come on

[01:51:22] Hypernauts was created by Christy

[01:51:24] Marks who did Gem and the Holograms

[01:51:26] Come on

[01:51:28] Christy Marks

[01:51:30] She did Gem and the Holograms

[01:51:32] And hypernauts

[01:51:34] In a B5 episode that wasn't very good

[01:51:36] She's done a bunch of them

[01:51:38] I love how you're trying to sell them and then you use the worst way

[01:51:40] To split them up

[01:51:42] He did a B5 episode

[01:51:44] She wrote a B5 episode it wasn't very good

[01:51:46] She wrote Grail

[01:51:48] But that's fine we could all forgive

[01:51:50] Was Grail the one with Michael York?

[01:51:52] How dare you

[01:51:54] No Grail was the one with

[01:51:56] Not Michael York

[01:51:58] The guy

[01:52:00] From Tron as well

[01:52:02] David Warner

[01:52:04] Oh yeah

[01:52:06] That was okay

[01:52:08] How dare I

[01:52:10] We all are out smoking

[01:52:12] It's all good we all have unpopular opinions

[01:52:14] I'm afraid to ask

[01:52:16] What

[01:52:18] I feel like it will shatter the internet

[01:52:20] What hot take

[01:52:22] I don't know

[01:52:24] Just anything

[01:52:26] I'm just afraid

[01:52:28] Well you know me I hate

[01:52:30] Star Wars O.T. and that's a whole nother bag of arms

[01:52:32] I love it

[01:52:34] I hate Mad Max 3

[01:52:36] There said it

[01:52:38] I actually

[01:52:40] That movie I can't give a solid

[01:52:42] Fucking review for

[01:52:44] Because I don't

[01:52:46] I've watched it twice

[01:52:48] And I just

[01:52:50] Can't put my finger on

[01:52:52] What the hell to say

[01:52:54] Well William was here last time

[01:52:56] It's very much like Terminator

[01:52:58] Or I'm just like

[01:53:00] Too many cooks

[01:53:02] I don't know Fury Road is good

[01:53:04] But I just can't

[01:53:06] I just feel like you guys are furious to me

[01:53:08] I can watch the original trilogy

[01:53:10] Because it's just kind of like

[01:53:12] No gifts or saving the village people

[01:53:14] With car chases

[01:53:16] If nothing else Fury Road gave us

[01:53:18] Several things including

[01:53:20] Scratical effects back and

[01:53:22] Witness me

[01:53:24] I mean come on

[01:53:26] I will give you that

[01:53:28] That's why I like Dial of Destiny so much

[01:53:30] People were actually getting shot off horses in this movie

[01:53:32] I love it

[01:53:34] I just want to give a

[01:53:36] That's not okay Yum Yum

[01:53:38] Putting that thing in there

[01:53:40] That's what she said

[01:53:42] Dude

[01:53:44] That thing is going to haunt my dreams now

[01:53:46] That Muppet

[01:53:48] What the fuck is it

[01:53:50] I put a picture of the

[01:53:52] I want to enjoy

[01:53:54] I'm giving everyone a taste of the

[01:53:56] Gloose picture and I'm glad

[01:53:58] That we all love the movie

[01:54:00] The Gloose walked so Jar Jar could run

[01:54:02] Oh

[01:54:04] Okay that was just the quote of the night

[01:54:06] Sounds like something you do in your pants

[01:54:08] After you eat Taco Bell brother

[01:54:10] Wow

[01:54:12] Dude I got a Gloose

[01:54:14] Look at the Gloose

[01:54:16] The dead eyes

[01:54:18] Guys look at me

[01:54:20] Don't hear no girls say

[01:54:22] I have a Gloose

[01:54:24] I have a Gloose so

[01:54:26] I have a Gloose

[01:54:28] I have a Gloose so bad

[01:54:30] Oh my god

[01:54:32] Help me share I'm going to Gloose

[01:54:36] Oh my god

[01:54:38] Come on guys

[01:54:40] Now it's just hypernaut talks

[01:54:42] It has Louis Arquette

[01:54:44] In it, the dad of

[01:54:46] You know, famed actor

[01:54:48] Someone had to do it

[01:54:50] Yeah we had to mention

[01:54:52] Robert wasn't available

[01:54:54] Yeah that's fine

[01:54:56] I remember it was Michael Madsen

[01:54:58] I'm just listening off

[01:55:00] A generic B movie

[01:55:02] I miss Michael Madsen

[01:55:04] He's so cool

[01:55:06] I love them all I'm just saying

[01:55:08] But they got a certain

[01:55:10] They got certain offers

[01:55:12] Lance Henderson was busy

[01:55:14] Tony Todd was probably doing a Candyman sequel

[01:55:16] I don't think they were asked to be in it

[01:55:18] You guys said it talked about

[01:55:20] Space Above and Beyond, I've never seen it

[01:55:22] Give me the elevator pitch

[01:55:24] Okay

[01:55:26] It's in space, it's above and beyond

[01:55:28] Did you just say pigs in space?

[01:55:30] The best military

[01:55:32] science fiction show ever made

[01:55:34] By two of the guys responsible for the X-Files

[01:55:36] And it played space

[01:55:38] And they have the best

[01:55:40] Some of the most outstanding dialogue

[01:55:42] And it's more hard science

[01:55:44] Battle on five on steroids

[01:55:46] Yeah and it's

[01:55:48] You watch it for all the

[01:55:50] I see the word

[01:55:52] I say Hall of Penu enema on the daily

[01:55:54] Because I work in a hospital

[01:55:56] I say Hall of Penu enema

[01:55:58] Literally the finest

[01:56:00] Military science fiction show ever made

[01:56:02] I'm sending it to him now on his YouTube

[01:56:04] And the episode Ray Butz

[01:56:06] Has one of the best lines

[01:56:08] When Shane Vanson comes into that guy's room

[01:56:10] What do you think about in the dark?

[01:56:12] I think about the first man I ever killed

[01:56:14] I think about that

[01:56:16] Maybe

[01:56:18] Just think about yourself

[01:56:20] This above and beyond

[01:56:22] Is a fine piece of business

[01:56:24] It's a one season show

[01:56:26] Sadly but

[01:56:28] It was doing a lot of stuff

[01:56:30] That science fiction television

[01:56:32] Wasn't doing at the time

[01:56:34] And would go on to do later

[01:56:36] It's following the boots on the ground

[01:56:38] The soldiers, they aren't the ones calling

[01:56:40] The big shots, they're the ones out there doing the job

[01:56:42] And getting it done

[01:56:44] And really dealt with PTSD

[01:56:46] And dealt with the traumas of war

[01:56:48] And dehumanization

[01:56:50] Both of the people who are in the Marines

[01:56:52] And the aliens they're fighting

[01:56:54] Also they have some really cool

[01:56:56] AIs in it that are awesome

[01:56:58] As well

[01:57:00] Even the cyborg science behind it

[01:57:02] Is just so original

[01:57:04] It was a very somber show

[01:57:06] That's something too

[01:57:08] If you like stuff like

[01:57:10] Battlestar, Galactica

[01:57:12] The remake or if you like The Expanse

[01:57:14] Or Firefly even

[01:57:16] The kick out of Space Bob and Beyond

[01:57:18] Those are all one side of the same coin

[01:57:20] They absolutely are

[01:57:22] Another great show that's

[01:57:24] Loose X-Files

[01:57:26] Eerie Indiana

[01:57:28] Oh yes

[01:57:30] He knows exactly what I'm going to talk about

[01:57:32] Strange Luck

[01:57:34] Which starred D.W. Sweeney

[01:57:36] D.B. Sweeney

[01:57:38] And a bunch of these other actors

[01:57:40] As this private eye just going into one crazy

[01:57:42] Scenario after another

[01:57:44] Sometimes encountering supernatural things

[01:57:46] It was like The Pretender show in a way too

[01:57:48] And only lasted a season

[01:57:50] It was produced by Roger Corman's company

[01:57:52] But way above average

[01:57:54] And in the final episode they were like

[01:57:56] Who are you going to call? Agent Molder?

[01:57:58] Because they were hoping

[01:58:00] Much like Picket Fences

[01:58:02] They wanted to do an X-Files

[01:58:04] Crossover but

[01:58:06] The ratings did not deliver

[01:58:08] So we'll never know

[01:58:10] How he found his

[01:58:12] Father and brother

[01:58:14] And like god damn it

[01:58:16] Well you did see that Space Above

[01:58:18] Above and Beyond was created by

[01:58:20] Glenn Morgan and James Wong

[01:58:22] Those guys can do no wrong in my eyes

[01:58:24] I loved everything they've done

[01:58:26] The Final Destination

[01:58:28] The One could literally have been expanded

[01:58:30] As an X-Files spin off

[01:58:32] I'd watch it every day

[01:58:34] Gently kicking ass

[01:58:36] Well yeah

[01:58:38] I generally love people

[01:58:40] I've never seen Space Above and Beyond

[01:58:42] Because you get to experience it the first time

[01:58:44] Because it was

[01:58:46] There was nothing like it

[01:58:48] And I watched it when it was on TV

[01:58:50] And I taped it

[01:58:52] I worked at McDonald's

[01:58:54] And I'd have to like tape it

[01:58:56] And come home and watch it

[01:58:58] And not go out with my friends and party and drink and play D&D

[01:59:00] I'd go, I'm going to watch Space Above and Beyond

[01:59:02] So depressing me

[01:59:04] I could be late

[01:59:06] Welcome to my life

[01:59:08] I watched Awesome TV

[01:59:10] I just wanted to see Vanton a little bit more

[01:59:12] You wanted to drink and go to sleep

[01:59:14] With a kick ass TV

[01:59:16] With Space Above and Beyond

[01:59:18] Yeah

[01:59:20] Glenn Morgan and James Wong created that

[01:59:22] After the first two

[01:59:24] They did the first two seasons of

[01:59:26] X-Files and then were offered their own show

[01:59:28] So they went and did that

[01:59:30] And it was a nightmare

[01:59:32] Fox immediately wanted to destroy it from the beginning

[01:59:34] Just like you say

[01:59:36] They had to deal with that

[01:59:38] Wouldn't leave them alone

[01:59:40] And the experience was so

[01:59:42] Like the show is good

[01:59:44] They had a good time with it

[01:59:46] A lot of the cast from it are in X-Files

[01:59:48] They still talk

[01:59:50] And they're in Millennium and so on

[01:59:52] And other works

[01:59:54] But my favorite piece of trivia about the experience was

[01:59:56] They were in such a bad head space

[01:59:58] After the show got cancelled

[02:00:00] That they wrote an X-File script

[02:00:02] That they put in

[02:00:04] It was Home, the X-Files episode Home

[02:00:06] Which is a really fucked up episode

[02:00:08] And it's also

[02:00:10] One of the highest rated episodes

[02:00:12] And they got Tucker Smallwood

[02:00:14] The actor to be in that one

[02:00:16] He was in Space Above and Beyond

[02:00:18] As well as the main characters

[02:00:20] And he read the script and phoned them up

[02:00:22] And asked are you guys okay?

[02:00:24] Are you guys okay?

[02:00:26] Because this script is messed up

[02:00:28] They also did Jose Chong from Outer Space too

[02:00:30] Which is about Scientology

[02:00:32] Scientology of all things

[02:00:34] Yeah, Space Above and Beyond

[02:00:36] Made them so angry

[02:00:38] That they wrote one of the best episodes of

[02:00:40] X-Files, Son of Spikes

[02:00:42] Awesome

[02:00:44] Definitely awesome

[02:00:46] Those are some good

[02:00:48] Suggestions ladies and gents

[02:00:50] I've got numerous other ones

[02:00:52] But we're going to leave it for the TV by year

[02:00:54] Category

[02:00:56] Now it's time for you guys to promote your shows

[02:00:58] Who wants to let you know that you exist

[02:01:00] And you're unmissable

[02:01:02] I'm a real boy

[02:01:04] Oh, Jeter

[02:01:06] He's so cool

[02:01:10] We can find

[02:01:12] The best Oreo cookie

[02:01:14] On YouTube

[02:01:16] Yes, definitely

[02:01:18] I'm on YouTube under Oreo Brewer

[02:01:20] On the Wattpad under

[02:01:22] Immortal Deluvid 89

[02:01:24] If you want to read my poetry and stories

[02:01:26] He's a good poet

[02:01:28] I'm on Twatter under SW

[02:01:30] The Draken Saga

[02:01:32] You really know that

[02:01:34] Yes, I do

[02:01:36] We just got an X rating, perfect

[02:01:38] Yeah, sweet

[02:01:40] X rated

[02:01:42] Who wants to give it a triple X rating

[02:01:44] Oh, boy

[02:01:46] I'm not even sure what we can put in that

[02:01:48] Oh, I can do some shit

[02:01:50] I'm sure you can

[02:01:52] I'm afraid to find out

[02:01:54] I'm afraid to find out

[02:01:56] Next time

[02:01:58] Next time

[02:02:00] Dragon Ball Z

[02:02:02] Dragon Triple Ball Z

[02:02:04] Yum Yum Pod

[02:02:06] Is on Spotify

[02:02:08] What would you guys

[02:02:10] I'm on all of those places

[02:02:12] Yes, we're on all of them

[02:02:14] We're on YouTube as well

[02:02:16] Just Yum Yum Podcast

[02:02:18] We cover science fiction shows

[02:02:20] One episode at a time

[02:02:22] Me and I, we like to

[02:02:24] Sit together, watch a show

[02:02:26] And then gab about it

[02:02:28] I'm just kidding

[02:02:30] Oh, yeah

[02:02:32] We started with

[02:02:34] Star Trek Discovery

[02:02:36] Moves on to V5

[02:02:38] And we're releasing

[02:02:40] Our Space Above and Beyond discussions

[02:02:42] Right now

[02:02:44] We're recording

[02:02:46] Won't come out for a little while

[02:02:48] But we're also doing The Expanse as well

[02:02:50] So we like to talk about

[02:02:52] A lot of different things

[02:02:54] We should be called The Expanse

[02:02:56] This is Expanse in mine

[02:02:58] Oh, and my pants

[02:03:00] Sorry

[02:03:02] That cast

[02:03:04] Is nothing but beefcakes

[02:03:06] And hot ladies

[02:03:08] Amos is hot

[02:03:10] I'm sorry

[02:03:12] He took his shirt off one time

[02:03:14] And I'm like, I know you're buff

[02:03:16] But geez, Louise

[02:03:18] Act

[02:03:20] Holden took off his shirt

[02:03:22] And I'm like, oh boy

[02:03:24] He's a lot

[02:03:26] He's a lot of guy

[02:03:28] In the wise words of Claudia Christensen

[02:03:30] From Farsky

[02:03:32] She gives me a woody

[02:03:34] She gives me a woody

[02:03:36] But yeah

[02:03:38] We cover your sci-fi shows

[02:03:40] So we can be found under Yum Yum Podcast

[02:03:42] Yum Yum is a reference to Star Trek Discovery

[02:03:44] And we like to make fun of that

[02:03:46] It's a grand old time

[02:03:48] Hence we named the show after it

[02:03:50] For that mystery to be solved

[02:03:52] And so yeah, it's a grand old time

[02:03:54] When all of those social media

[02:03:56] It's provocative

[02:03:58] No one knows what it means

[02:04:00] Yeah

[02:04:02] Roger

[02:04:04] Do you have any talk shows you're on?

[02:04:06] I have a podcast right now

[02:04:08] So if anyone out there wants to start a podcast

[02:04:10] Of any kind, let me know

[02:04:12] I'm always interested

[02:04:14] You are, you've got a lot of fun

[02:04:16] As evidence to find this podcast?

[02:04:18] I'm sorry?

[02:04:20] As evidence to find this podcast

[02:04:22] Oh how dare you

[02:04:26] I brought it to 11, alright

[02:04:28] It's all good

[02:04:30] Oreo is a mystery maker as we all are

[02:04:32] You were young guys

[02:04:34] I have a movie, it's called Cordobin

[02:04:36] It's available on Tubi

[02:04:38] Which I co-wrote and directed

[02:04:40] Please like it, I gotta see this

[02:04:42] It's a friends in a comic book store type of thing

[02:04:44] It's only an hour and 15 minutes

[02:04:46] Check it out

[02:04:48] It's pretty good

[02:04:50] The young kid from A Christmas Story

[02:04:52] Randy, he's in it

[02:04:54] Randy from A Christmas Story

[02:04:56] I can't put my arms down

[02:04:58] Put them down

[02:05:00] Put them down

[02:05:02] It's up on Tubi, Cordobin, check it out

[02:05:04] Cordobin, okay sweet

[02:05:06] Will

[02:05:08] I am

[02:05:10] Alright, so my name is William Brecknard

[02:05:12] There's only one in the United States

[02:05:14] I live in

[02:05:16] Literally

[02:05:18] I'm the only one, my last name is only shared by 100 people

[02:05:20] In the United States

[02:05:22] Really?

[02:05:24] Fun fact

[02:05:26] He sent the sandbox like the church

[02:05:28] The last of his kind

[02:05:30] Yes, unfortunately

[02:05:32] This is the story of

[02:05:34] I'm a junk in the cloud

[02:05:36] This is the story

[02:05:38] Fuck the Brady Bunch

[02:05:40] Oh wow

[02:05:42] Oh my god

[02:05:44] Marsha served to get beaten in the face of the football

[02:05:46] Wow

[02:05:48] Hashtag football lives matter

[02:05:52] Now you're responding

[02:05:54] Hashtag fuck that news

[02:05:58] Okay

[02:06:00] What you were saying

[02:06:02] My name is William

[02:06:04] I started the

[02:06:06] Future War stories, it started off as a blog

[02:06:08] Because I didn't have any money on blog

[02:06:10] It still exists there

[02:06:12] Since 2010 I've been writing

[02:06:14] Research articles basically

[02:06:16] Because I have a degree in history and I like

[02:06:18] articles

[02:06:20] So I've been writing about military science fiction

[02:06:22] Because I was writing my first military science fiction book

[02:06:24] And I couldn't figure out some of the things

[02:06:26] So I said I should research this

[02:06:28] And that's how it started

[02:06:30] So Future War stories

[02:06:32] Where we explore and explain

[02:06:34] So I'm a major science fiction

[02:06:36] And it's right now

[02:06:38] In the process I'm working on

[02:06:40] The first scripts of the podcast

[02:06:42] Which is going to

[02:06:44] It's going to exist in both

[02:06:46] So you know

[02:06:48] I'm looking at the first five scripts

[02:06:50] Will be me just kind of talking

[02:06:52] You know, I have a friend

[02:06:54] Who has a much better voice than I do

[02:06:56] Maybe she'll do it

[02:06:58] Need any help?

[02:07:00] Yeah so it's

[02:07:02] 756 articles

[02:07:04] The next one's about up

[02:07:06] And I have a guy in Israel that writes

[02:07:08] With me as well who's really good

[02:07:10] He's really cool

[02:07:12] He's safe by the way, I already checked on him

[02:07:14] I have to make an appropriate joke

[02:07:16] I'm glad you stopped me

[02:07:20] Yeah so that's where I come from

[02:07:22] It's been an interesting

[02:07:24] It's been a long road to borrow from

[02:07:26] Enterprise which I'm about to talk about

[02:07:28] Oh boy

[02:07:30] Enterprise

[02:07:32] I do love Enterprise very, very much

[02:07:34] And so, and if you're not listening
