[00:00:08] In the 21st Century, human consciousness was digitalized and stored in devices that came to be called stacks. This is an age where human flesh is called a sleeve. Death of the body is no longer the end as long as one protects their stack. My name's Gina from UNC Tactical. You're going to assist my investigation.

[00:00:36] Consider me her babysitter. She's the tattoo artist for the Yakuza clan. The one that had my kid brother as Komicho, the boss. She has value. I'd say it's imperative the clan's tattoo artist be present. I'll be watching Takeshi Kovacs. Who do you think those enhanced sleeves were working for? Shinji. There's a coup. That's what I heard.

[00:01:02] How hard should it be to kill one snot-nosed bratty little girl? Sea-Tech and tech ninjas. This is the worst job ever.

[00:01:43] Damage to hotel property has been confirmed. Oh dear. We missed. We loaded it. We edited it. Sometimes we get so deep into conversation that we have separate segments worthy of their own place in the sun.

[00:02:11] The reshuffled mini-episode.

[00:02:20] Did you see the Ultra Carbon anime that came out called Resleeved?

[00:03:03] Yeah, that was really good. Yeah, I was kind of on the fence on it at first. I'm kind of like with IGN. It's kind of a free out of five for me. It was just like, I would have liked a little more detail, but the animation was stunning. I mean, they came out right before season two. It was kind of a teaser. If they hadn't canceled the show, we probably would have got more. Oh, we totally would have. The Witcher.

[00:03:28] I wonder if mine had they done what Star Trek is doing now where they had like free shows going on all at the same time. If you want to get into the anime version of this tale, watch that one versus the live action one. You know, just something for everybody. Yeah, they're stopping that though. I mean, besides Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks get in unless they change their minds. Well, no, they got Pride, Pride, you know, because they do that for you. Yeah, Discovery. I actually dug how it ended, but we've seen so many people complain.

[00:03:58] I just people don't like change or adding new stuff, but... Even though Ron Barry was all about change and yet we got to rewrite what he said and reinterpret. Discovery looked up to its title. Every single season, it was something new. Oh, and plus, when do you see the Doctor become the captain? That was fun. That was a fun twist. Yeah, I mean, like it was... Burn him. He's strong. They did a pretty good job with that.

[00:04:28] I thought the final season was pretty good. I'm dealing with the project generators from the next generation. The time travel. Yeah. And the time travel was just kind of more playful. It was fun. I had control. The whole day was Section 31. Control, I thought that was brilliant. I mean, we've always wanted to know why were they basically the equivalent of future CIA doing shady shit that is above anyone's pay grade, you know? The DS9, so every show is... Right?

[00:04:58] Another show that people ignored at the time because it was the in-betweener. And I think that's the other thing too is just like, when you're watching reruns, unless you binge something, you're not going to get the full gist. Like, I was kind of that way with Voyager. I was just like, well, I like this cast. I don't always like their stories. And so I was like, oh, there's some good ones. Back in the day, you know, those were... Except the VCR to record. I remember those days, typically.

[00:05:26] Like, yeah, I mean, like, you know, 20 episodes, 22, 24 plus, you know, episodes, like six, seven seasons, you know, per show. I mean, every show, next gen, DS9... And same kind of deal. People were like, oh, it's different. Now it's too different. Oh, we like it now that it's different. But it took us two seasons. It's like, oh, good Lord. I mean, that's all again, another comic season itself. I mean, it's...

[00:05:53] I like, you know, Star Trek and Star Wars are forever linked. Without Star Trek, there is no Star Wars. Without Star Wars, there is no return of Star Trek. Bingo. Did you get to read any of the comics? No, I actually did not know there were comics of Walter Carver. So, basically, I call this... This is like the perfect, like, in-between. Like, this is how...

[00:06:21] This is as close as you get to like a visual, like, reenactment, story expansion of the Kovacs books. So it starts out with download blues and concludes with one life, one death. And it was going on at the same time as the show. But the problem is, kind of like how season two kind of got delayed and then finally came out. Book two got pushed back to like, you know, 2019, then 2020, then 2021. You're like, good grief.

[00:06:51] I'm pretty canceled in 2021. I really had fun, kind of, with the first book, Download Blues. I thought that got the whole aliens part and the various... How these comics are in the TV show universe? Hmm, they're technically in the book-verse, but they use similar visuals. But they don't look at all like any of the movie characters... TV characters, but... Okay, I'm going to check them out then.

[00:07:16] But, yeah, they're totally doing the whole Martian War and jumping around, sleeve to sleeve. And the dialogue is very frantic, which is what it's like in the book. So, I mean... But yeah, one life, one death, kind of lost me a bit. The second book, it was just a little too much heavy expo down. But kind of rushed. Because now he's going on a revenge spree.

[00:07:42] And, uh, comic one, and Download Blues, I thought was just better at just kind of showing how his mentality and friends close enemies closer tactic. Yeah, I'm going to check them out. I can't. I know they did a comic book for four, so I'll check them out. I'd love to hear you take on it. I don't know the best place to read them unless you want to go, you know, third-party sites.

[00:08:09] But I'm just saying, like, they're crazy expensive. I like them fine. But yeah, book one, I think, was way better. And book two was kind of... Felt like kind of an afterthought. Well, I mean, like you said, it came out in 2021. I mean, they're... It's like they'd start a run and then continue the comic the next following year. So that could have been a bit of that.

[00:08:35] I mean, if we have a huge gap in between two, it makes it harder for people to stay invested. When you're at a year gap and it's like... Yeah. I think it's a... This is a book is different, but comic book, you know, that's different. I mean, hell, you see it with podcasts. There's a lot of fun ones I listen to, but so many of them will just have a delay for five months. It's like, dude, you've lost a potential audience. We'll return after these messages.

[00:09:06] Hey, it's Brent Pope, the host of Brentfist with Brent Pope. You've seen me on some of your favorite TV shows saying things like, give it up, Jimmy. You got to sink this put to win. On Brentfist with Brent Pope, I sit down with guests for the entertainment world and we do it all over breakfast. Or should I say Brentfist? Every week on Brentfist, you get inside Hollywood info and tips, great breakfast wrecks and booty debates. Most of all, you get the most delightful 30 minutes of your week. So dig in. It's Brentfist time. Listen at Brentfist.com, Apple podcasts, or wherever fine podcasts are found.

[00:09:35] Do you ever find yourself thinking about who would win a fight between Goku and Superman? Hi, I'm James Gavsey. And on the Who Would Win show, me and my cohost, Ray, ignore anything important happening in the outside world and debate fictional battles between characters from comics, movies, and video games. We got a new show every week and almost always am I the winner. Yeah, not true, Ray. In the past, we've discussed such matches as Captain America versus Darth Vader, Solid Snake versus the Iron Giant, classic matchups like Robocop versus Terminator,

[00:10:05] and even the Muppets versus Sesame Street. That one was crazy. So if you're a fan of geek culture and love a spirited debate, check out the Who Would Win show wherever you get your podcasts or check us out at who would win show dot com. Cool thing about blind knowledge is we are in multiple countries. We are worldwide all across the globe. We are in the U.S. We are in the U.K. We are in Canada, Germany, India, Japan.
